Citizen Queen by Juliette Has A Gun is a Floral Woody Musk fragrance for women. Citizen Queen was launched in 2008. The nose behind this fragrance is Romano Ricci. Top notes are Leather, Aldehydes and Bergamot; middle notes are Iris, Rose, Immortelle, Tuberose and Orange Blossom; base notes are Powdery Notes, Musk, Labdanum, French labdanum, Resins, Ambroxan and Vanilla.

The third fragrance of the collection is introduced in April 2008. It is composed as chypre aldehyde with animalic dose.

"She is not only this edgy lady, nor the most glamourous, or the most intimidating, she is all that, at the same time, a Beauty on her own. Impossible to describe...and that's exactly why she's so fascinating. Her perfume is a mysterious and addictive Aldehic Chypre, at the crossroads of modern and classic perfumery. Romeo...be warned ! Juliette is back, more uncatchable than ever."

The design continues the modern romantic saga on Shakespeare’s rebel, and the bottle is colored milky-white and with silver top. The motif of roses is unavoidable decoration on the bottle. This time the outer box is black with black bow on the top. It is available as 50ml (1.7 fl.oz.) and 100ml (3.4 fl.oz.) EDP.

Spicy to my nose
I dont like it
Reminds me of CH 212 I think

I love this fragrance. I think it is such a soft aldehydic fragrance that even those people who stay away from that type of notes might like it.

It is a beautifully modernized classic perfume in which the iris and the rose are perceived in that airy and almost metallic cloud formed by the aldehydes. These aldehydes are very tolearable, they only provide that touch of elegance that reminds us of iconic perfumes but without becoming heavy at all. As the hours go by, the aldehydes subside and the powdery notes and vanilla are the ones that stick to the skin the longest, together with a soapy touch.

It has a moderate sillage and a good duration, on my skin about 10 hours.

It seems perfect to me to become a woman's signature perfume and I think that eventually I will get the full bottle.

The more I get to know this, the more I fall in love with it. At first I thought it was my least favourite of my JHAG:s, but now I feel that it is oh so lovely! I did say it even before: it is like soft mixture of Chanel no 5 (mostly Eau Premiere, 2008 edition) and Shalimar Eau de Cologne, and then something extra. A little soapy, and softly sexy, sensual or even innocently erotic, a bit animalic. And then some powdery flowers. Maybe not a safe blind buy for anybody, but for me: backup worthy…

LOOOOOVE ! Great layering tool, very soft powdery with a leather kick to it. Not something I wanna wear daily, but still love wearing it

Jmalone84

This is amazing wow. Cool iris powder bad ass bitch fragrance. Ice queen. I was initially very attracted to this on first sniff. I do wonder however if this is something to be taken only in small doses as I can see myself getting sick of this like I have with other powder bomb fragrances such as the old Chloe Love. I can see this also being potentially love or hate and would bet the man in my life might not like this one.

Citizen Queen is everything. It is both dry and creamy, raunchy and innocent, loud and introverted. How can it be everything yet be so well rounded. I guess she's some kind of deity.
Also, it performs unbelievably well. My skin drinks up even Habanita and makes it disappear, but CQ stays on my skin up to 24 hours, and she changes her character in the process but never becomes dull. Sillage is strong enough, I rarely get asked what fragrance I am wearing but it's never the case for the queen.
This is my holy grail. JHAG please make her come back!!

I got this sample in a sample swap as a mystery scent. I was supposed to guess what it was. The last time I got a mystery scent from my friend here I was very close in guessing the right scent. I guess Worth Je Reves and it was a flanker off of that perfume. This time I was wayyyy off. When I first smelled Citizen Queen I smelled sharp citruses, aldehydes and tuberose so I put in a quick guess (which was a mistake I should have waited for the mid and the dry down) and I guessed Gabrielle by Chanel. WRONG! LOL. After that blunder I was given the hint of leather from my perfume friend. I guessed 2 more times and was wrong. In my defense I've only sampled one perfume from this brand. I have lived w/ this perfume for 3 days now racking my brain trying to guess what it was. So, here is what I think it smells like. When I first spray this perfume, I get sharp citruses/bergamot, aldehydes, and tuberose. As the perfume goes along, I get a suede like leather w/ a lot of powdery notes. This has a hint of sweet and musky notes but in the end, this smells like a leather/suede soap or musk, like a very soapy leather/suede musk scent. I don't get rose in this at all. It could be unisex, but I find this leans feminine. It's funny that one of the reviewers below smelled a bit of Chanel #5 eau de Premiere in this perfume. Now I don't feel so bad thinking of a Chanel for a guess. This is a really classy smelling perfume for sure. If you like the idea of smelling like a floral, powdery, leather musk soap this is a good way to go.

Edit: 7/7/23 I wore this all day yesterday from my sample. I have to upgrade this to a love. What a wonder musky floral suede like leather. Longevity is beast mode w/out being overwhelming.

I’ve had this frag for a long time now and sad to see it discontinued on the JHAG website. Then I thought about why . “Had a long time” = very occasionally spritzed it on whilst “discontinued” suggested I wasn’t alone.

When I wear it, CQ conjures up a strong, lovely rose-scented, sensual leather glove. Proper, expensive soft kid leather with the intoxicating rose taking you back to your childhood garden that had a ‘Blue Moon’ rose bush.

That’s very distinct for me, and I’m so glad I have this clever, provocative, beautifully styled bottle on my shelf. I’m also glad, in a way, that I DO use it so sparingly; it calls for a particular mood and I can’t honestly say which one(s)… playfully sexy, dangerous even. I think of the female lead in ‘Venus in Furs’ ……and you don’t want to be her everyday.

Lasts well, so much so it outlasts the mood that enticed me to wear it AND must add that my OH likes it.

Miasha

It is a very beautiful fragrance; kind of creamy, and not too strong. Though, I was actually expecting something a little more unique, since it has gotten so many ravishing reviews! To me, this is a mix of Chanel no 5 (maybe Eau Premiere) and a light variant of Shalimar. So, the best ones, obviously! But not so much new, then... (By the way, I feel like this would have some civet note in it - but it is not listed here?)
I think my other fragrances from JHAG have more of true originality. I have MMMM, Mad Madame, Romantina, Miss Charming and Vengeance Extreme. I love them all, and this one too, even if it turned out to be something else than I thought.

After using it a bit more, I appreciate it a lot more, too!
I feel its own personality now, and not just the likenesses to Chanel no 5 and Shalimar. So, that means that I am very pleased with all of the fragrances from Juliette has a gun! ☺️

MaryLee

In short - to me it smells like some old cosmetics and it makes me sick.
At first I thought I would like this fragrance, there were notes of some body cream and aldehydes, but almost immediately the leather and labdanum made it horrible. I like these notes individually, but all together - it doesn't sound to my taste.
It's good that it was a travel version and not a large bottle.

Gin Palace

I haven’t tried all the JHAG perfumes, but this is the best one I’ve tried. For longevity and smell. It’s quite unique but I ‘group it’ together in my mind as powdery, slightly dirty, smoky. Along the lines of Habanita, Putains de Palaces, even Divine ‘Enfant. I love those sort of fragrances, I know they’re not for everyone. I do get compliments from them. I had a tester of this and decided to buy a full bottle (if I could as apparently discontinued) as even though it starts off a bit skanky and strong but dries down into a complex feminine, powdery floral imo. It stays on clothes and skin until the next day. I managed to get a bottle on eBay, not overpriced so I was lucky. I’d probably just go for Habanita if I couldn’t get it though.

First Impressions (sample spray):
This one is interesting. Picture an old vintage male hair cut salon. The smell of old leather seats, old timey talcum powder, and even masculine shaving cream pervading your nostrils. This one is alright for me, but it does lean VERY masculine for me. This would be suitable for a man, rather than on myself. Also, the aldehydes with the leather almost smell salty on my skin. If you like the smell of a vintage barbershop then this one is for you.

Verdict:
Pass- salty skin from blue collar working men getting there haircut in an old timey salon.

Anamandy

Just a heads up for people who love this fragrance as much as I do. I contacted JHAG customer service because I was concerned that this fragrance might have been discontinued since it is no longer on their website. I received a response that it was. So, if you want it now is the time before it becomes hard to find and rediculously expensive.

abbieclark67

A really fascinating scent. It becomes better as it develops. I believe it interacts with skin chemistry and might smell differently depending on the individual. I also assumed it could smell like classic Coco, but it doesn't. To me, this smells much more tropical, a spice-tropic. precious!

Tarine

I got a sample to try because I have been curious about the perfume by knowing its high reputation. The smell reminds me of the barber shop where I used to be when I was a kid. An employee there used talc powder a lot. I semelled this powder from that. So, for me, powderly scent is the strongest. I don't say that this perfume smells like "Musc noble" from Guerlain which smells like also barber shop, but citizen queen has kind of a similar vibe. Given that, a mixture of Aldehydes, leather and Musk makes a barber shop like smell.

Honestly speaking, I did not like the smell at first because it is nothing special, however after wearing it for one day, I changed my mind and I kind of like it. One of my friends told that it is a fresh smell. The scent lasted around 4-5 Hours.

FreeBeing

Well, well, well! What a surprise that I like a JHAG scent more than Not A Perfume. I tried a couple of others from JHAG but this one... I get mostly a rosy kind of powder, Ambroxan, and resins. I don't get any leather really. On me, this plays soft and really pretty in a grown-up-but-girly kind of way. It can seem both sexy and sweet. I love it. For some reason, it reminds me very slightly of Donna Karan's Cashmere - so maybe I do get a little bit of the musk.

The thing is the iffy longevity. I have to either spray a cotton ball to tuck in my bra or else give myself good dabs behind my ears for this to hang around - and it does, for a while. It is not "eternal" on my skin. For that reason, I am glad that I got an affordable-sized decant instead of buying a full-size bottle.

Bubbles1964

A more wearable Habanita L'Esprit, but you need to like perfume with a little skanky musk. Leather, aldehydes and iris dominate. I was never a big fan of Habanita L'Esprit. Citizen Queen doesn’t work with my chemistry, so a gentle pass.

mrshnchnkm

Aldehydes and leather are just a disgusting combination for me. For me, it smells like leather and urine sprinkled with a huge amount of sweet powder.

Mistress Eva

This is my third experience with a Juliette Has A Gun fragrance. Citizen Queen is nothing like my previous two, Mad Madame and Midnight Oud. This scent is sparkling, bright, beautiful, and totally unique. As I look for scents for warmer weather that aren’t "freshies" or like anything else, this fits the bill nicely. It is powdery and a bit soapy, but not in the way that you'd think. The soapiness, normally a huge turn off for my husband and I, is somehow gorgeous here. Another surprise are the aldehydes. Normally, my body chemistry interacts horribly with them, making me smell exactly like a nursing home (not an exaggeration). The aldehydes in Citizen Queen are not the same as those in your grandmother’s perfumes; here they are more effervescent and brilliant. The labdanum and resins add a hint of intoxication and olfactory heft without weighing it down. Other users report a stronger leather note than what I detect. To my husband and I, the "leather" smells more like a white suede note, definitely not a leathery-leather accord.

Overall, this is a scent in which the sum of the parts hugely elevates the overall composition above any individual ingredient. It isn’t easy to describe. I am genuinely thrilled with this one *and* it isn’t even a heavy unisex frag! LOL.

bloempjefra

I sadly discovered Citizen Queen is no longer on the official JHAG website, just like my other favorite, Romantina.
Luckily I still found a 100 ml bottle online for both, so I'm good for the next few years.
As for Citizen Queen, has anyone else noticed how much Violet Ida by Miller Harris resembles CQ?

Anamandy

This is a different twist on what could otherwise be just another powdery scent. It's ambery, musky, leathery, and to a much lesser degree, floral. From first spray, with that bergamot leather hit, to the powdery, labdanum, musky dry down, and the soft floral heart in between, is just perfect to me. It's the leather, labdanum, and musky notes that really ropes me in and turns what could be just an otherwise innocent scent into something both intriguing and sultry. I find the composition as a whole a very tactile and sensuous experience. I really love this. I am so glad I have a big bottle that should last me some time.

pinkstate

Aldehydes, leather and bergamot fight in the sharp opening where aldehydes end up winning. It quickly changes into a soapy/powdery rose with tuberose on a vanilla base. It's like putting Chanel #5 on and Ombre Rose on top of it. The dry down is very pretty but I have to say that I have smelled it many times before.

Before_Sunrise

Honestly? Citizen Queen got me puzzled! Loved the dry down, an absolute delight, so beautiful and so Francis Kurkdjian, but the opening?? What the heck, it feels like the perfume was made by two different noses and trust me nobody gets a perfume only for the dry down.

foreverine

As much as I like the concept of this fragrance, this turns immediately animalic on my skin in the opening. Strong dirty musky scent pulsated from my skin. This is the second fragrance that behaved this one on me, the first being the uber famous Musc Ravageur. And just like Musc Ravageur, I cannot keep this in my collection even though the dry down is wonderful.

LauraAD

The smell on opening reminds me exactly of those little wraps of sweets you used to get in party bags as a kid in the UK: Fizzers. Took me right back to being 4 or 5 years old in the late 80s/early 90s. Gradually the vanilla and leather seep through and it's a warm, comforting, fuzzy fragrance. Like a cashmere jumper, big cosy socks, and a blanket on a cold, dark evening when you have the candles lit. On the dry down it has an aspect that reminds me pleasantly of my cat's fur when she's warm from the sun. It's not a powerhouse that announces it's presence 10 metres ahead of you, and refuses to let people forget you've ever even passed through the room, but it gives you a warm presence that invites people closer to you and makes them feel comforted when they are. Bravo, JHAG, another stunner.

hexed

The aldehydes make it rather piercing, inhuman. It's giving me fembot 100% and she's using her power for evil.

Spearmilq

I got this by blind buy, I’ve judged it from its look, the reviews of this one … and I really disappointed.

It’s truly johnson ‘n johnson baby powder with no any extra notes. No aldehydes, no leather, nothing .. just powder ! which is a vintage powder !

The good thing is .. it’s good longevity. Btw I have spent $120 (THB 3,8xx in Thailand) for the baby powder scent! This is my mistake.

Saraphina

Lovely intimate, subtle and musky skin scent. Citizen Queen perfectly captures the gorgeous essence of a newborn babies head, soft, sweet, musky and mildly animalic, with a touch of fresh citrus from the bergamot.
What a beautiful and sensual blend, perfect to wear to bed after a long and languid steaming hot bath.
Smooth as silk and dreamy like a warm embrace, a perfume for your significant other to nuzzle into when the lights go out…..

Remmel

Citizen Queen is a very powdery floral scent that smells vaguely like hairspray in the best possible way. It's light, leathery, and ultra-feminine, what I would imagine a movie star from the Golden Age of Hollywood would smell like getting ready backstage. A very "old money" fancy feminine scent. It's fairly linear, but I don't mind that as long as the "line" is good. A solid year-round perfume.

Gummybear002

The juxtaposition is amazing. Soft powdery leather and rose. Dries down and stays in fabric for ages. I like that the point isn't for this to be sexy, but it ends up being very much so. Definitely something to look forward to next month or so.

Cali Brating

Dreamy, fluffy, powdery sweet cool cloud...
On which I'd like to sleep this ridiculously hot summer night...
...Wearing my leather jacket...?
Well Jaah...!

tandem_4x4

Its very strange and very nice. Good idea to combine powder, leather and aldehydes together.

InfiniteStarla

Sample decant from Notino. Another JHaG that is very similar to AP's fragrances - this one I think most resembles Petale Noir the most. They both have the leather, labdanum and bergamot in common (the first two of which are dominant), along with the white flowers in the middle. This lasts similarly well with slightly less projection. After 8+ hours it's powdery and pleasant, but it's quite a journey from the first blast. Not bad, but doesn't wow me especially as AP is such good value, strong silage and longevity, it takes a lot to beat them.

kristina_atanassova

I can imagine that a ballet dancer's costume made of leather would smell something like this scent: a soft, powdery, worn, supple leather.

kendrajeane

Gorgeous powdery comfort. Very reminiscent of White Diamonds by Elizabeth Taylor, a fragrance I adore. For me the dominant accords are powder and aldehyde, followed by white florals and a barely-there musk. After a few hours settles to a lovely powdery violet. A new favourite!

salthewitch

I'm late to the JHAG party, after being introduced to Lipstick Fever (which became my signature) I was sent a sample of this by a kind stranger on a fragrance group on SM. I'd worn LF the day before, so had residual on my wrist. I gave this a spray on my arm for comparison. My first thought was 'Oh no, she went to all that trouble' as I took in a massive nostril of 80's hairspray and insect repellent. How could this be described as it has been? After ten minutes, it BECAME. I've enjoyed over four hours of the most dreamy divine powdery rosey irisy violety yumyum and I can honestly say this is simple beautiful. I'm a massive gourmand collector and this can sit with the best, but the Ambroxan and Leather lift it slightly away from the sweetness usually associated. I'll be buying a full bottle ASAP!

PixieKiwi

Citizen queen opens like Shalimar, but only very briefly. I don’t get any powder at all from this perfume. Soon after the Shalimar opening i get leather and then civet (although civet is not listed as a note). Reminds me of a weaker version of FM Musc Ravageur. I hated that and I dislike this. Civet notes just smell like urine to me. There is nothing attractive about it. So glad my decant of this perfume arrived before the full bottle. I will most definitely reject that parcel.
A big fat no. I really wanted to like this, but the smell of a public toilet just overwhelms :/

Alces Alces

Dressy comfort scent, like a terrycloth evening gown, beautiful yet comfortable. I love this.

jaguarundina

I still remember, having splurged on three JHAG's Midnight Ouds, that also this perfume won me over immediately. hearing Romano is [family, a nephew ?] of Nina Ricci is just fantastic ! such disparate tastes and somewhat a comparison of 'wild' versus 'overcorrect'. to me this perfume bears resemblance with Mona di Orio's 'Nuit Noire'. comparing the notes I see the following resemblances: Leather, Flowers ([NN:} Tuberose, Orange blossom) while Citizin Queen isn't sparse with flowers: Iris, Rose, Immortelle, Tuberose, Labdanum, Orange Blossom [and Vanilla]) and Nuit Noire has the two woods Cedar and Sandelwood. but with the resins and sweet touches (CQ: Labdanum, Resins, Vanilla and Ambroxan) where (NN has: Amber, Tonka, Olibanum, White Musks) they are just two powerful and supersophisticated, complex perfumes which I both love dearly. these are modern niche perfumes heralding old traditions and compositions. I love them both.

Avian

Guerlain has a spray called Eau de Lingerie. I have never smelled it, but Citizen Queen strikes me as a fitting substitution with a little more edge.

Citizen Queen starts off as a very leather-powder-rose. Not quite baby powder, but powder along the lines of those fancy powder puffs women used to use. The leather is likewise soft and on the Shalimar-side, rather than newer sharp leathers seen in modern fragrances. The rose and orange blossom are nearly fused together, but keeping with the theme of the rest of Citizen Queen, they are rich and elegant. I don't detect much aldehydes, which I am not a fan of so I am thankful for that.

As Citizen Queen relaxes into the drydown, it turns into a gorgeous "lived-in" powdery musk that is a better example of not-a-perfume than the actual JHAG Not a Perfume. It ends up smelling like pleasant person, rather than perfume specifically. It's not quite animalic, but it definitely does smell like a warm-blooded creature. Compared to one of my favorite not-a-perfume perfumes, Narciso Poudree, Citizen Queen is more powdery and crisp, and it's not very sweet or casual at all.

Like other JHAGs, Citizen Queen is best worn during warm weather when your skin is radiating heat. Citizen Queen is strong with just one spray, and overspraying turns it into a powdery wreck.

A lot of people are calling this "old l a d y", and it can occasionally come off this way, especially oversprayed. But Citizen Queen never smells stale or overly vintage-y, and it is clearly formulated differently than those kinds of perfumes. I would describe it as inspiration taken from older classic fragrances, modernized for today's wearer with updated molecules and scent structure. Yes, you have to like powder fragrances. No, you won't smell like a nursing home.

GabrielleeeeeW

This is a blast of powder with a hint of smoky sweetness. I agree with the below user regarding candles- I get that note but it's subtle and you have to look for it. It is a more vintage smell and it's not one that I am particularly fond of, even as a lover of vintage and old world things. Powder just comes across as more mature to me. This is a louder fragrance, not soft, and one that could be divisive. It definitely doesn't smell unpleasant but it's not a blind buy unless you know you love powdery scents. This is another JHAG scent that lasts hours on my very dry skin and the sillage is decent.

mabelcruet

This is just perfect. I agree with those who say its got a vintage vibe-it definitely does, it reminds me a little of Jardin d'Amide with the powdery notes, but it has far more oomph. There's a solidity to it, at its centre there is a leather and musk heart. Theres also a slightly sweet smokiness, not an overt cigarette or ash note, but a smokiness like candles burning in a night club. I can see this being definitely unisex despite the powdery opening because of the musk leather smoke dry down. This makes me think of the Moulin Rouge for some reason-its like a mature woman with a notorious past discussing her conquests and cackling about it over gin and cigars.

UnearthlyApothecary

This one is fantastic and not for the faint of heart, vintage lovers will adore it. I think it’s somewhere in between ELDO Putain de Palaces and Molinard Habanita with added sparkling aldehydes that neither of those have. There’s a lot going on here! Makeup powder, rubbery leather (the “nose burner” kind found in Habanita in case you’re not a fan), fizzy aldehydes with an old school bergamot citric tang and vintage florals. It smells like a drunken party where classy old vintage dames are table dancing with a couple of the trashier gals but who cares? As long as we’re having fun ;)

sribas

The leader note is just too much for me, it ruins the opening. And then the drydown is not bad but it disappears on me very quickly.

Update: The drydown now smells like a baby wipe.

kateapple

Citizen Queen is unexpected both as a JHAG fragrance and as a fragrance in general. I find that most JHAG scents tend to be a bit musky and fleeting, but this is not.

With iris, leather and "powdery notes" listed so highly, I was sure this would be a dry, powdery, fluffy scent. It is not. This scent is wet, oily, and tangible. There is a depth to it that feels counterintuitive. It is bright and aldehydic, but also feels decidedly solid and powerful. This is not airy, this is something that feels much more dense.

I do like this scent. It was a blind buy and not what I expected, and I still find it a bit challenging at times, but it's really fascinating and completely unique. Worth a sniff.

MaquiLab

A rather pungent powdery fragrance. Very powdery, indeed. The leather doesn't help - it actually makes it pretty overwhelming, especially during the first hour. I suppose this is what 18th century Parisian prostitutes smelled like... The drydown is nice, though - or at least I don't mind it. It lasts all day, and even a single spray produces a noticeable sillage at arm length.

gpaisley

CITIZEN QUEEN is a gorgeous, thick, heady perfume - and makes me imagine what MARIE ANTOINETTE would smell like as she powders, preens, and perfumes herself in her lavish, royal boudoir... A cloud of powder, laced with aged honey, and faint whispers of an indolic/castoreum type note (like in MAD MADAME) trailing in the background.
Regal, antique-ish, and extravagant.

P.S. It shares a divine, powdery, rich, deep quality that also reminds me of several KILIAN perfumes such as VOULEZ-VOUS COUCHER AVEC MOI.

sopke

My first love with JHAG. And still, I am deeply in love with this one. Yes, lots of dry powder and a little flowers, but again, no sweetness, nothing cloying only warm and cozy vibes. I do not connect it with the name, queen ok, but why city? for me, it suits with busy days or tea breaks, lunchtimes, brunch outside the city, so not only the city.
By the way, for me it has very little connection with Habanita L'esprit, which is full of white musk and labdanum, I put it on a different shelf.

brumbarche

Beautiful vintage ... and a deep deep vintage... from way way back ... when Chopin was performing for the elite probably he could smell this...

This perfume is more of a concept to me, rather than something easy to wear. It is gorgeous nevertheless.

When you watch a movie and they show a palace, from a Shakespeare play - times of heavy fabrics, intricate ornaments, complex designs of interiors and personal style, where all is lush and busy. You watch the movie and you see a room full of baroque furniture with long green velvet curtains. Someone pulls them and the rays of light coming through the long windows could be seen in the dusty air. There are lots of old books on the shelves covered in suede and leather, you feel the orris powder from the ladies makeup, the plush from the seats, the leather decorations, the old parquet and the chalk on the blackboard by the desk. I smell that magic here. It feels "French" because of the iris being featured (it would have felt more like a British castle if it featured patchouli instead). Citizen Queen is regal but sensual. And I find this to be Gothic too in a very sophisticated and sexy way, if used right, as part of artistic self-expression. Otherwise, it's something, for lets say ... mature Queen Elizabeth I ... when visiting Shakespeare's theater to see a play. I love the scent, I just can't think of a conventional place to wear it myself. Maybe a Shakespeare play? Ot better - a Shakespeare cosplay.

Edit: Spray of it layered on top of Mancera Aoud Cafe is very good soft winter combo.

handkmommy

This is one for a vintage loving lady.

lechickpea

I'm afraid this didn't work out for me at all. Huge let down, as I love powdery scents when well-executed. All I can smell is a thick layer of baby powder on a smelly raw leather hide. There's a little bit of rose underneath, but not enough to save it. Hard pass for me.

elledeelee

Oh no no no. Powdery, leathery musk is being used to cover up the stink of something sour and sharp that is emanating from warm, unwashed skin. Very mature, very old fashioned, stale baby powder scent. Just not to my personal taste at all.

ivadim

ViouAmara

I’m a big fan of the creamy powder (yes, it exists …) of Habanita l’Esprit. The short animalic musky rose to begin, followed by the mellow softness of a delicate cloud of light, it’s just perfect. Citizen Queen is Habanita’s twin sister, even smoother if possible. Just dreamy.
Go with a light hand and the bottle will last for ages.

Very easy to wear every day. One of the perfumes you can wear everywhere, in the morning, at noon and in the evening. It has everything, but nothing too much, just right.

This was a blind buy, and I don't think this is a safe blind buy at all because of how sharp its opening notes are.

I went a little heavy-handed with this one, and got myself a massive perfume-induced headache the first time I tried it. On first sniff, it is an assaulting and sharp baby powder. I can see why it was named Citizen Queen. It is a very in-your-face powder kind of scent. Something I would wear to a protest. People around you would be able to smell it through their masks. Long-lasting and strong sillage.

I tried this again on a cold rainy day, and realised that this is one frag definitely more suited for cooler climes. Heat overdoes the "dirty" in this scent for me. It's an interesting offering from this house. Nice bottle too. However, the first notes are still way too sharp for me to enjoy this on a regular basis. To me, it is a very dirty loud powder, that I would reserve for daytime casual situations that requires me to make a statement. And I also spray this on lingerie, because this is exactly how I would expect sexy lingerie to smell like, especially in all its musky powdery dry-down glory.

I'll probably recommend this to quietly dangerous young women. Quiet-looking, reserved, but with guts and gumption, and something important to say.

arefuthescroob

My treat to myself, and oh boy what a nice perfume this is! I was hoping for a cloud of powder, and I got it, but as usual my skin turns the scent to sweetness on a drydown, and this sweetness is very creamy vanilla with some residual powder. Truly a queen the fragrance is. However, I don't get the leather note out of it...

RedIsDead

Beautiful, soft, sweet and quite sexy.

Something about the Rose notes don't quite sit well with me, it feels a bit too mature for my liking (I'm in my mid 20s) but if you're a lover of sexy powdery roses you'll love this. I love powdery scents but this just isn't *quite* what I'm looking for.

I've been wearing this in 20 degree centigrade weather and in 10 degree weather and I'd say it suits both. The florals seem to come out in the heat and the powder in the cool.

The leather note adds a sexiness that really makes this special. It's that earthy, almost spicy note in there.

It almost reminds me of a toned down Mugler Alien some how. It's that floral-spicy-depth about it. This might work for someone who relegates Alien to "night out" wear and wants something more daytime friendly but still special.

I don't love it enough to buy a full size, but it's a very very nice scent to indulge in a sample of. It definitely grew on me as time went on and lasts all day on my skin.

It’s quite nice, and everything is blended well. But I feel that clove is one of the notes that aren’t mentioned. Very good lasting power and excellent silage.
Reminds me so much of Versace’s Dreamer (for men), and it could easily be used by men as well, despite its feminine vibe. There is nothing like Shalimar, and this doesn’t remind me of it. I like, it and I will repurchase it hopefully.

I'm not sure that I agree with the reviewers describing Citizen Queen as "clean", "fresh", "delicate", "inoffensive", etc. Yes, one might expect such adjectives to be applicable to a fragrance whose main notes are powdery, floral, aldehydic, and musky, but this juice packs a punch! I'm more with @GenevaX, who characterized it as a more contemporary, chic Shalimar sans lemon and civet. It has something of the same irreverent glamor to it.

There's a lot going on here, and at first, I couldn't tell if it was all working well together. Indeed, everything kind of rushes at you at once: tight new leather, a dense cloud of cosmetic powder, a heady bloom of wet rose and starchy iris, heavy musk fighting with sweaty-fizzy aldehydes. None of these brash voices really ever gives way to any of the others, and the result is that this is a relatively linear fragrance whose many notes remain mostly distinguishable from one another. But they do attain a certain harmony, and if you don't look too closely, you're left with an assertive powder-leather-rose tour de force with extraordinary sillage and staying powder.

The bottle design, name, and scent are all in perfect alignment with one another. This is most definitely a statement perfume, and one that I would hesitate to wear in hot weather. Slightly better as an evening/going-out scent. I know that the name and many other reviewers have pegged this as an ultra-feminine fragrance, but there's something daring and modern here that I think works well on anybody who can pull it off. One of the few Juliette Has a Gun releases that is as sexy and audacious as marketed.

Jaxie23

This was a blind buy based off of a YT review. I am in LOVE with this soft girly powdery scent. I don’t know which I love more this or my chloe Love. Both my favorite. I wear this in all settings and for comfort.

Winki

On my skin this is very fresh clean and soft with just a delicate hint of a very light inoffensive powder note. This is the most 'not a perfume' fragrance I own. It reminds me of white fluffy newly laundered towels and crisp clean sheets. I am delighted with this purchase. I would be comfortable wearing this in any setting and any time of the year. Somedays you want to be the leading lady and other days the chorus girl and lend a great supporting role in the loveliest of fashion.

GenevaX

I love Shalimar, and maybe one day when I'm older and have a more formidable presence, I'll be the kind of person who can pull off that classic. For now, I have Citizen Queen, which is a more modern and mild version of a classic perfume. It has Shalimar's vintage purse combination of powder, florals, and leather, but it's missing that shocking first note of burnt rubber, and there are no discernible animalics (which is interesting since JHAG is one of the few younger-marketed houses that doesn't shy away from animalics). This isn't to say that it's a poor person's version of Shalimar. Citizen Queen is a beautiful, considered updating of vintage glamor. I feel classic and chic wearing it. It's just more modern, tightly-edited, and discreet. That suits me right now.

Mirabele

i wrote a review about this before, i just wanted to update. i still like it very much, but i still can not wear it. i have re-tested it some days ago, and i still think it is such a great scent. so well made, so unusual, so modern and chich and with such a great retro vibe. it is one of those perfumes every perfumista must try, i believe! it is soft and powdery and elegant, and low key, but present, it is elegant and business-like and sexy at the same time. it is so many things. powder is what makes it unwearable to me, i just can not physically tolerate that much powder, it makes me nauseous and almost sick, unfortunately. if i only could, iwould wear this every day, make it my signature scent. it is cozy and relaxing and sensual at the same time. well, i said it is unusal,it definitely is, but at the same time, as strange as it may sound, it has close relatives of well known scents, such as Shalimar, Habanita l'esprit (white bottle), i even hear a little wispers from narciso for her edp and MM lazy sunday morning. you see, both classic and contemporary at the same time. all this, and so much of soft soft sensual fluffy powder. a bit of leather, which is more like suede, really. for the reference, i am not able to wear any powdery scents, really. shalimar is not my thing.
for this scent, i imagine a youthfully looking elegant pretty woman, who is either young or very well aged, very succesful and busy, wearing pastel colored clothes, wearing this both at work and on snuggly evenings at home, on lazy weekends in, on a road trips in her pretty car with leather seats, and when meeting her lover.
recomend to try to all who can wear powdery scents, it is very good.
it is summer here now, even if we do not have many sunny and warm days, it is still too much for me. i will try some time again in autumn or winter. maybe i will be lucky then.

Call me crazy but this reminds me of an ex boyfriends old cologne. It's maddening. I blind bought this based on the notes thinking I'd love it. It really is very pretty once you get past the opening.
It is very heavy on aldehydes in the opening, iris and powder but like a dirty powder with a metal tinge to it. It's gorgeous once it's all settled in, I just don't enjoy the opening. Once you hit hours of drydown it's got a very classic luxurious Chanel-like vibe. In no way does it smell like any Chanel frag, it just has that magic.
It has incredible longevity and a decent silage. The rose in this is dominant too for me. It's a dry spicey lipstick red rose.
I've had this for a few months now and although it's not a love, it could have been much worse I suppose. I'll continue to push past the opening. Especially lovely in cold windy weather.

sueshow

I LOVE this perfume. Received it in a blind swap because of the reviews here. I love powdery scents in general but this one has a twist. It starts out with a blast of aldehydes similar to chanel no 5 but then turns into a powdery soapy mix. Very clean in a retro/ modern way if that makes sense. The leather note is subtle but blends in well.

10/10 for me. I will purchase a FB once I run out. A must have.

Flemeth

I smell powder, iris and aldehydes. Incerdibly chic. This is a modern, wearable combination of No5 and Shalimar. Beautiful, elegant and feminine scent. I'm not sure I could see myself wearing such a powdery fragrance, but I'm really enjoying this so far.

Sillage is moderate at least, longevity is around 4-5 hours.

Coffee_Girl

I thought i was crazy because this is a complete dupe of Ombre Rose...I thought i might have had the wrong decant...but this is definitely ombre rose!! If you could not stand that fragrance, definitely do not get this one! Super sharp!

SailorV

Citizen Queen is my favorite from JHAG, with Vengeance Extreme second. I‘m not a huge fan of this house and wouldn‘t wear most of their scents, but this one is really beautiful.
It‘s a soft, fluffy white cloud of musk and powder, but soft doesn‘t mean weak or boring. This perfume has a multifaceted composition. It hits just the right spot between creamy and powdery, sweet and clean, warm and cool. It‘s not suffocating like some other strong powdery scents can be, as it‘s not too dry, but it‘s potent.
The aldehydes in this are sparkling and fresh, so this smells modern and wearable for those who don‘t always like aldehydes. I usually don't like soapy scents, but it reminds me of soap bubbles in a good way. The leather note feels like smooth nude colored leather. It‘s more detactable when I sniff my skin directly and not so much around me. The musk is warm, but clean, and the iris is very noticeable in the powder scent. Even though it‘s not listed, I smell a hint of vanilla in this, most likely due to the amber note.

This gets compared to the classics No 5 and Shalimar in many reviews on here. I get a hint of No 5 from the aldehydes in this, but no Shalimar at all. Anyways, Citizen Queen doesn‘t smell like an older perfume all in all, so those not into the classics don‘t need to be afraid.
If you love fluffy, creamy, cuddly powder musks, try this, it‘s beautiful.

mschnabel666

In my opinion, this is just like Habanita L'Esprit. Powdery with a hint of skin/musk/sex. My first test was a wintery/cold/wet day. And the sillage/potency is average. There is something still clean/soapy about it, but there is a definite panty smell like H L'E. Which I don't think is a bad thing.

Without that musk/leather, it's similar to Ombre Rose.

Narciso Poudre is a better choice. Along the same lines but better quality smelling, killer potency, richer, and the perfect blend of clean yet dirty powder.

I should add-- haha-- I do like this! It's exactly what I dig, and every perfume I mentioned above is something I have and love. Now that Hab L'E is getting rare, I'm thrilled to have this.

I love feeling (smelling) like a vintage sexpot. Feminine powder but a dash of sex.

Sillage seems to be growing after 1-2 hours, but I was very heavy handed.

katrinawhitney

I searched this one on Ebay because I saw some girls on here raving about it and happened to find a lady doing a 'lot sale' with this being one of the bottles. It's only a third full or so, but for like 15 bucks including other perfumes, it was a complete and total steal. I just got it today in the mail and decided to wear it to work. I think I really really like this one. I'm so super happy with this blind buy. Now, to put my finger on what it smells like.. that's a little difficult. On first spray, I don't like it, there's something sharp. However, in just a few minutes, that goes away and it settles to a sweet, creamy, powder. It gives me vibes of Espirit by Oscar de La Renta mixed with some Narciso white cube with a little bit of fabric softener (which normally I hate. however, this smells much more luxurious than something from Walmart haha.) I don't get any leather, which I'm happy about, I don't like leather. But I would definitely say if you're looking for a good boudoir scent, one that says "Yes, I am a beautiful, classy lady, but I'm also a dirty girl," then this could be it.

Marissaluvsscents

Obsessed. I am dying for a bottle! I’ve been wanting something clean, I’ve been wanting something musky, something sexy, something every day, something for the heat, something classic, a bit of powder... This is all of that! The second skin, modern Chanel 5 , hint of Narciso, and a “What IS that phenomenal smell!... ME? Citizen Queen!?”, drydown... I love that I may be one of the lucky ones that surprisingly found an unexpected signature scent. Not at all what I (thought) I was looking for, but have become addicted to its dreamy allure. I almost just said ‘Must love powder’ but I actually do not so, try it. ...Feels like a Lana Del Rey song ...

yguess

I have fallen hard for this. Powdery soft close to the skin, the silage is excellent... Just wish the projection was a bit further. The opening is a bit peppery, then the suede and poweder notes rush in think seconds later. A few if the floral notes sing out, but the dry down is my favorite. Floral, Amber musk... You just want to snuggle in and sniff.

elitasahtarina

My first sample from JHAG, have tested it for 2 days now.
In general this perfume vibe seems similar to Shalimar but lighter, more airy and more powdery. First it seems soapy floral, but soon it melts in powdery warm iris scent. Iris and powder plays the main role and also i am getting some leather, kinda like inside the women bag with lipstick, perfume bottle, some scarf and plenty of small staff. Dry down is musky, still warm and cozy. I feel very good wearing this - playful, joyful, confident and actually i find this treasure quite sexy
Longevity is fine, could feel this on my skin after 8 hours, what is good to me since my skin usually "eats" all perfumes quite quickly. Definitely will buy big bottle to light my days in a dark, rainy autumn.

Edit - i definitely feel quite strong animalic note in the middle, it should be musk. in the beginning it is quite sharp, but in dry down turns warm and cozy.

Soofiya

A very lovely and soft powdery scent
I was afraid of it's leather note, actually I could detect a hint of it a few minutes after application but it soon faded away and I'm left with this tender and gentle scent of powder which I like a lot
All the notes are very well blended, the only ones that I can detect traces of them are iris, musk, rose, something like a non-gourmand vanilla and lots of powder. It's dry down is exactly like a softer teint de neige on me.
On me Citizen Queen settles down to a soft skin scent in less than half an hour.I can smell it just when I stick my nose to my skin.anyway I like it a lot as it's cozy and classy the same time.will buy it if I find a good deal

Sophiesof

Citizen Queen is a very powdery fragrance. Unfortunately I can not pick any of the other notes since the powder note is very dominant here. It’s between the lines of Ombre Rose L'Original by Jean Charles Brosseau and Teint de Neige by Lorenzo Villoresi. I would advise you to test before purchase.

scia

I have tested this fragrance from a somewhat older original-sample: A classic elegant and slightly floral perfume with a touch of pleasant ambery dirtiness. It reminded me something of Chanel 5 and other classic beauties.
This association does not come to my mind when apply the newly purchased version!
I bought it yesterday, and what I smell is different: hardly Aldehde, hardly flowers, nothing more of that vintage-elegance... I smell in the new bottle mainly a dirty ambery babypowder. Only in the base becomes similar to the older sample. That's a pity. Or is it an Chameleon, that changes face on skin every time you put it on..?
Does anyone else have the same impression, that the fragrance smelled different in the past? Was he reformulated recently?

valeria.stenkovaya

Liked it after multiple tests, but couldn't manage to wear it when I finally bought it.
It is definetely a nice perfume, very sophisticated and stylish, but for me it was too powdery and too oily at the same time.

Papavero0

A truly beautiful creation (and it is a creation, unlike so many other fragrances today). This is a completely new interpretation of an old classic recipe! I adore it for that. The projection is low to moderate at best, but the sillage is outstanding. I sprayed it in the afternoon and I can still smell it in the morning.

Later edit: I finished my bottle so I have a better impression of how my experience wearing it was now. Overall I do like it. I think it is elegant and makes a good impression, exudes a certain air of craftiness about it. I was drawn by the iris powder musc combination as that is always a winner for me. I thought the aldehydes could only add a Chanel-esque elegance to it all, amber would ensure a good fixing power and labdanum-immortelles-resin would guarantee warmness in the dry-down. And so it all did. I could even ignore the initial harsh 'hairspray' blast as I know we should be patient with our fragrances. But in the end that aldehydes musc thing did not work out. The aldehydes were amping the composition too much like a stereo raised too loud. Mind you, I still do not think of this scent as a complex or heavy composition. No, other perfumes do that. The envisaged recipe for this is pretty clear: a good old elegant lady scent. So, yes, I have mixed feelings about it because I will remain a loyal lover of powdery iris and musc, love my ocasional aldehydes, but think Citizen Queen would needs some fine tuning to smell less synthetic and more properly elegant (which in today's castrated ingredients world is no small challenge, I'm sure)

NormaDesmond

Citizen Queen was one of my favorite perfumes some years ago! Sexy, mysterious and at the same time playful. Kinda dark but with pink in it. Plus, it was one of the few perfumes I still could smell on me after several hours!

JustRosy

Such a beautiful powdery iris with that signature JHAG rose. This is very addictive and the lasting power is incredible.

miha.vld

Wonderful and unique! !!Juliette has a gun indeed

LanaD

Omg!!!! I found my signature perfume!!! Beautiful baby powder in a good way!! I didn't like it at first so I wanted to return it, th next day I sprayed to make sure it's still the same and then it happened...... love love love it!!!!

Madrona

Ooooh, what a lovely composition this is. Modern chypre is damn right, it has animalic facets but it's cleaned up for the 2000's crowd. Take an unwashed Paloma Picasso or what have you, toss in the washing machine with a generous helping of milky white Narciso Rodriguez Narciso, and ta-dah! Clean fur! Powdery leather! Sparkling musk! All of the sex with none of the skank! Granted, by wearing Citizen Queen you'd still stand out among the fruitchoulis, but I'd still consider this fragrance non-risky. It's extremely enticing and has this moreishness to it that makes me return to the spot I dabbed it time and time again.

Andreab969

PS Citizen Queen is slipping into the "Love" column! Yay

Andreab969

I am wearing Citizen Queen for the first time today. We are slowly getting acquainted. I am finding it to be very pleasant as I try to identify the notes and entire composition. I wanted it to "knock my socks off" immediately but it doesn't. I was certain I would LOVE it so I'm a bit disappointed. Perhaps like will turn to Love after a day. I prefer to be the immediately bowled over by fragrances. So I was disappointed at first. However as the day passes its emanating a prettier scent. I'm not Rose crazy but I don't find it overwhelming here. I like to own a scent from each prominent line so I'm not sorry I bought it. I might offer some to others since I got the large flacon. That will make me feel better! It's a good frag, but I don't think it will ever make my top 5.

Mirabele

I loved it when i first tried it. Retro and modern at the same time, that was my first impression. soft and beautiful, very long lasting. I find it also very powdery, so you have to like powdery scents in order to like this one. In the middle stage I find it to be a bit similar to Shalimar, powdery leathery citrus and I am not so big fan of this stage, because I dislike Shalimar and scents structured in this way. However, CQ is much softer and much more modern. Even if it reminds old classic Shalimar in the way of composition (leather-powder-citrus), I find citrus here be not so sharp and overall scent is very modern while being soft at the same time. leather smells like suede here, i liked it this way, i usually dislike leathers in perfumes. i dont smell any aldehydes here. There are many good things about this perfume. I was contemplating about buying a bottle but after a few extensive wearings I realized that I wouldn’t be able to wear it as much as I initially thought I would. The drydown gets musky sexy roses to me, which reminds a lot NR for her edp. This is not a bad thing, I understand the appeal and why many others may like it, but it is just that I am not a fan of roses and this type of musky-sexy-rose isn’t my kind of thing.
a lovely perfume to try for those who like powdery, sweet, suede, soft citrus and roses.

spinderella

This is the first Juliette in my collection. After all the raving reviews here I had to try it. Bought it blind. I must admit, it is a bit disappointing. Not that Citizen Queen is a bad perfume, but with that regal name I expected a bit more ooomp. On my skin, after the first blast of aldehydes it almost disappears. A very soft powdery, soapy (aldehydic) freshness remains. But it lasts a long time, softly whispering on my skin. Again, not bad, but with that name and that price, I hoped for a bit more. Lesson learned. I ordered a box of testers from Juliette. Note to self: TRY before I buy!

shushkin

Oh my! It smells just like my Gran after being to the hairdressers for a perm, shampoo and set. The smell of hairspray on her newly permed hair. I don't think I want to smell like that!
So much powder, a little iris with a dash of leather. Surprising really as I usually like fragrances with these notes.
Moderate silage and longevity.

mystiquenoir

Beautiful smooth leathery musky silky-soft divine perfume, Citizen Queen! Absolutely heavenly. So smooth!!! It's like velvet; like silk. It's completely glorious! It's a beautiful velvety second skin, with a richness my own skin lacks. A rose richness. Sweet, deep and delicate. Refined and majestic. Regal. Beautiful. Warm and so comforting, it's high on my list of favourites.

irisjetaime

GOD SAVE THE CITIZEN QUEEN....

rumari47

Made the mistake of blind buying this one. Unfortunately, Citizen Queen wasn't in my sample kit. Most of the Juliette has a Gun fragrances surprised me in a very good way. So when I found Citizen Queen for an amazing price I thought why not??
The reviews on this fragrance are what pushed me to blind buy. I was intrigued! Described as "beautiful, different, not like anything I've smelt before."
When I first spray I get a blast of powder, leather and floral notes. MMMMM!!!!
Five minutes later; powder and a hint of leather. MEH
Fifteen minutes later; I smell like I poured a bottle of Johnsons baby powder all over my body.
It may be my skin chemistry does not work with this particular fragrance but I am not loving the baby powder smell.
My husband didn't like Citizen Queen at all.
It's the end of October and temp over here is still low 90's-high 80's. Gonna try again in cooler weather. Of course the fragrances I dislike have really good lasting power. After 8 hours I still smelled it going strong. After 12, it calms down but is still detectable.
I may be looking to swap this one!

Germany

Qitizen qeen opens with a leathery aldehydes burst and has an anemalistic feel to it. Heavenly fragrance and one of my favorites ones from this line , extremely smooth!
It's seamlessly smooth and lays on the skin like a glove. It doesn't scream or shout , it's not loud or screechy odd or uncompfortable but it rather just melts Into ones skin to create absolute pleasure and wellbeing. Your skin but better ,a leathery powdery velvet and musky fragrance , it just smells really good like a modern classic fragrance made for today. Almost a retro feel ,I find this one impossible not to fall in love with. The leather is so warm and soft and minimal ( stronger in the beginning but then fades to a very soft suede ) the scent is powdery , creamy and sweet. I can't stop to smell my wrist all day long. Just pure heaven ! Many compliments on this !
Ps , my husband is not a fan of too classical fragrances , he totally loves this one. So it's not your typical oldschool classic, it's edgy and sexy, it's a master piece.
10 out of 10 for citizen queen !

onaona

Make no mistake, you'll bow, willingly and without a single protest!

You have very little choice in the matter, to be honest. Citizen Queen is just THAT good! BUT, watch out for the first spray, it's a doozy and NOT, for the faint of heart. It's a big, 'chemical' reception, straight out of the aldehyde factory. I think it's meant to serve notice of the power to come.

Fortunately, I have the olfactory heart of a lion! Citizen Queen did not scare me off, just the opposite. I was (and still am) drawn to it. A willing subject.

Yes, the aldehydes blast out at you, but they soon relent, settling on the skin with beautiful precision. Citizen Queen is very structured to me. It's also wonderfully powdery and I do love a powder bomb! The most insistent notes on my skin, (iris and rose present only on my clothing) leather, labdanum, amber give the powder quite an edge. They even darken the composition for me. A strange occurrence for what is very much a powder puff. So take note of the edge powder lovers, THIS is not a comfort scent, though the powder on the air presents at times milky and slightly sweet. It's not a fragrance that sits cozy around the house while you relax. It walks confident and proud down Wall Street (or a backstreet) to hold court.

Signed, Loyal Subject of the Queen

This is a nice classy, elegant perfume for powdery perfume loves. I have a sample, at first when I got it, didnt like it because of a noticeable blast of powder, which gave a big kick off. It took me about a year, when i was sorting mye samples, tried it once again, and then magic happened- took a small dab on my wrist, and chnged my mind! It is really nice composotion of powder, amber and leather, very longlasring on me. Base is beautiful, soft resins and leather. Recommend to give a try, start is quite complicated for those powder pessimists, but base is worth a wait!!
would really like to have about 30- 50 ml, though not more.

Duskfall

A vague image of Shalimar (or one of its flankers; I really can't recall...) seen through a massive dusty cloud of make-up powder. On me the leather is very prominent and there's some skankiness in the mix too. It doesn't smell downright bad, but for some reason it makes my stomach turn. I had the same reaction when I smelled Dior Homme Intense: way too much powder! Definitely not my style. I think Citizen Queen would be more suitable for a classic femme with a vintage dress, red lipstick and perfectly coiffed hair.

It has a moderate projection. I can't comment on the lasting power, though, because I have been unable to tolerate it long enough for a full wearing.

handprints425

Yep. She is going to be my signature. Sat down next to stranger "Hmm, you smell good." Making coffee @ local convenience store the other morning, 3 construction workers gathered, had to write it down for one to buy for his wife, store manager rushed over, smacked a pen and paper in front of me and said "please write down what you have on. I never smelled anything like that before." Its my local store and he also had same reaction with Coromandel. Many compliments with this one. I feel good with her and if she is a bit rebellious and outside the norm yet so very feminine, thats how I believe I am and how people perceive me. I knew I was a queen, as every woman is. So nice to find a perfume that displays your substance.

Lilypads

Ooooooooh I love this! Tried it today from a sample I bought. First spray - love it! Dry down - love it! The smell in my hair when I get in the shower - love it! Put it straight on after a shower - still love it! Can't really write much else at the moment as I'm too preoccupied sniffing myself! My first dabble with this perfumer - must try others.

Edit: this has become my signature fragrance. I have 3 bottles on the go. One is always in my bag. It's beautiful. Spray one blast on your clothing and you will be enveloped in a lush leather cloud all day. It lasts forever on clothes. Leather with rose. I love love love it

handprints425

I just got mine in the mail straight from juliette. Prefer to order direct from house. Feel more secure in authenticity and freshness. Im the perfume addict w no sense of smell but I used to have an excellent nose so I am looking forward to making this my signature. The notes are exactly what i have been looking for. Leather, makeup powder florals and amber. OMG. Its gettn hotter here in central pa but I dont care. We all live from air conditioned box to airconditioned box anyway. I will let you know the compliment percentage. I also own Mad Madame and it is noticable, which I want otherwise whats the use of wearing, and get many compliments. So even though I accuse central pa of being Pennsyltucky, there are quite a number of people that recognize quality and modern perfume art considering how many love Madame.

butfly23

This starts as leather, then a few minutes later all amber & a little powder.
The amber is so like Gres Ambre, which is wonderful, powerful long lasting scent.
Will give this a while to see if any other notes come out.

Marie_Anne

I so much loved the concept, the name, the packaging etc and I got soooo disappointed in the scent I was almost crying!!! Skin chemistry played a bad joke with me and this one - on my skin it is SOAP, SOAP, SOAP. For about 5 hours, it dries our but still smells of soap. Should not be a blind buy, be warned.

auroramaria

One of the most beautiful feminne fragrances on the market. It's sweet creamy and powdery with the most alluring leather note.It smells like nothing else out there. It is a very rich solid composition with enormous sillage and lasts for hours. If you love leather this is a must try.Unique

Smooth, warm amber powder with a rose soapy feel from start to finish. This is really, really nice and suitable for any occasion, day and night. The leather is there but soft, clean and just perfect. I have tested most of the Juliet has a gun range and this is by far my favorite, second is Midnight oud. The performance is impeccable, last all day and then some. A true classic!

maelleinrome

On my skin, it's the leathery version of Mariella Burani fragrance (the classic, with the roses on the cap): so I can smell powdery flowers, amber, a little bit of aldehydes and an interesting touch of leather, all blend together in a refined, grown-up powdery scent. Amazing staying power. Amazing fragrance as well!

ScarlettX

Oh my god, this is so strong. It's great if you have a strong tolerance for strong scents.
I don't find it bad, but it's too intense for my nose.
Interesting for sure, there's iris and leather notes that make the scent. Also, powdery notes, rose and amber.
Everything is heightened in this perfume.

Ouch!

Oh this is SUCH a beauty. This is perfume love at it's strongest. This was the first JHAG perfume I smelled in a long line and it's the one that stuck out the most. I bought it within 2 days of smelling it!

Gorgeous lactonic qualities, with powder, rose...subtle leather and a cloud of comfort. It's one of those perfumes that makes me feel relaxed and evokes dreamy feelings.
There's a twinkle of something throwback here too.

I am reminded of a less dirty, and more modern version of Shalimar when I smell this which is always going to be a winner in my opinion. Soft, pillowy sillage and and wisps of milky leather. It really is just bloody gorgeous!! I never want this to be out of my collection...ever!

Winner!

nutpojjanapimol

I smell sweet vanilla on cow'excrement ..I cant see both of them in the note but I did smell it. The silage is heavy and the longivity is terribly powerful. I have to wash my wrist and spray other perfume to stop this smell. ... May be it is because of my skin but I cannot stand it. Thanks that I bought a tube not a bottle...
I really want to like but bug I cannot, so sad.

dkny27

Almost gave this away... Whew!
The iris, leather, rose and powder... This is a classic, nostalgic fragrance with an updated vibe, and it's sexy as hell!
Marlene Dietrich, Mae West, Raquel Welch, Sophia Loren.... Women who'd rock this scent, saying "I'm a lady, but wait until I let you get to know me"...

pauroj

leather and roses lovely , to me it doesn't remind me of putain des palace because putain smells so spicy and well human to my nose, while citizen queen smells more polished i like it if you like leather is worth trying .

beavisbonce

Got this today so here is my first impressions. Shalimar. Fizzy and leathery. Then it changed, and this took a steady few hours to something rosy and powdery then I kid you not it became a deadringer for scentstory 24 but obviously at a quarter of 24's strength. I've never known a scent start as a feminine and end completely masculine. Two for the price of one! Beautiful packaging also. It's a keeper

theberry33

Gorgeous powdery leather! It has some soapiness to it,but a soapy smell lingering on skin, rather than just that plain squeeky cleanliness you sometimes get in fragrances.I would compare the feeling of wearing this one to the classic Chanel N.5.It is quite distinctive and very aristocratic, indeed suitable for a queen.
Very elegant and suitable for almost every occasion.
Love.

scented2014

gorgeous, creamy and elegant powder with great longevity!

incrediblemelk

Powdery scents are often considered old-fashioned, but I was struck by how modern this smells. It smells almost soapy. I don't smell irises in particular but since they're a component of most of the perfumes I like, I'm not surprised.

turtle91

This is so powdery it actually made me sneezed but I love the smell! This perfume sample made me interested in Juliette Has a Gun perfumes. Niche perfumes really smell great.

eaudemoi

Powdery musky flowers, and I'm definitely getting a soft, tame leather. I like this a lot, will see if it turns to love!

One thing though - am I crazy, or is anyone else getting Narciso Rodriguez for Her EDP and/or Idylle?

I'm working from memory on that one, but this definitely is ringing a bell.

canadianpetite

Tried Lady Vengeance, Miss Charming, Romantina and Citizen Queen. The last was the only one I would want to buy. I seem to fall in love with aldehydic fumes and this is no exception. Right after the initial spray, I sense a sharp note but it doesn't make me sneeze or give me a headache. The other notes begin to make an appearance. The rose is there but the iris makes it exceptional for the powdery effect which I love (Prada Infusion d'Iris and I get along very well). The amber sweetens and the leather brings oomph. I have often heard praises about JHAG and finally found a retailer where I can sample. Since I am in search of a fume with smaller sillage but with longevity, I thought this might be the one. It has been 18hours ago since I last sprayed and I can still smell it on my arm. Very distinct and has held its floral notes. Unusual to my chemistry as I expected the amber and leather to stay. I still detect rose and leather though the sweetness from amber has faded. It now smells like freshly soaped clean skin and makes a lovely skin scent. Fits my requirements until I saw the price C$165. Hmm. Will ponder some more as my husband says he really likes this.

One spray on me
Sillage: hug circumference
Longevity: 18 hours so far but probably more
Rating: 4/5 but could go up

Daniela_Beatriz

Leather and rose mixed in a very sexy concoction. I don't usually go for the leather note, but this one is pure magic - smells expensive and chic. I think this one is very unisex.

gabri11e

The concept behind the JHaG line (as a dedicated rose lover) really appealed to me. After giving the whole line a shot, this is the one I fell madly in love with.

Don't get me wrong, the first few sprays are loud, and can be tricky to get through. But what you're left with is a perfect rose and clean (almost soapy a times) leather blend that's intoxicating. I find the iris keeps things modern enough.

I find this is a perfect going-out scent, and love the added edge to it. It's feminine without being girly, and alternative without being crude. It demands attention without being onboxious (and only demands it from those who get close enough)

HanamiTsukimi

After ordering JHAG's sampler pack (It's a great deal and everyone should do it. Tell your mother I gave you permission.), I'm quite taken with the whole line. But this is the only fragrance from JHAG that I love from top to bottom and back again. I fell for it as soon as I sprayed it and have not been disappointed yet. Call me crazy, but something about it has a quality of the character and class of Chanel No. 5, except more modern and with a bit of sass and spice.

As a powder lover, the opening is fabulous. Somehow it manages to feel soapy and clean and rich and full and dark all at the same time. I'm usually leery of leather in fragrances, but it's seamlessly blended here. Wearing it, I don't smell like someone's new car. Same thing with the animalic aspect of it (even though it's not listed in the notes), it's tastefully done. There's just enough of an edge to make the wearer feel real and warm, but not unwashed.

It feels retro and modern at the same time, like Shalimar for Generation X. This would be a great scent for a ladylike rebel.

raw umber

The dry powdery leather of Citizen Queen reminds me of Shalimar EdC, but the hint of Iris/ambery sweetness toward the dry down makes it more modern than Shalimar. The drydown is almost closer to Parfum Initial, but it is WAY less sweet and outspoken than P.I.. Something mineral in the leather smells almost like the saltiness of hot asphalt. Citizen Queen seems like an understated, narcotic, musky, true skin-scent. It highlights and compliments the natural scent of skin, and wears close to it. There is nothing overtly spicy or animalic about this leathery musk. It is very very gentle and intimate, but something about it reminds me of drugs. It's like a poison that tricks the body into summoning a heightened state of functioning. An aphrodisiac, perhaps? It makes me want to keep sniffing it all day long.
Thanks to 2746cstreet for my decant of this. She guessed that I would enjoy this one, and was she ever right!

My feeling is that if you own both Shalimar EdC, and Parfum Initial, it might not be necessary to own Citizen Queen in addition. However, if you liked the concept of either of those two but found them to be too sharp and petrol-like (EdC), or bubblegum sweet (P.I.) then Citizen Queen might be the perfect middle ground for you. It's like the best and possibly the sexiest of both worlds.

AthenaSmith

I have 7 JHAG perfumes, and Citizen Queen is my favorite of them all. It's a decisively powdery scent with rose and just a hint of leather; it fades to a lighter, sweeter version after several hours. Classy and sensual without being overbearing, it combines modern femininity with old-world elegance. Appropriate for both daytime and nighttime wear, with average staying power; may need a couple of refresher spritzes if you plan to be out and about the entire day.

auroramaria

I love CQ,it's such a special fragrance.
Ultra feminine with powdery iris rose and amber.
At some point it gets very powdery and musky.
Leather and rose give a touch of elegance to the scent.
It's quite heady so I use it mostly at night time.
It draws compliments all the time.
You must like powdery scents though

Planet_X

Interesting, softly-feminine and long-lasting fragrance. Leathery powder - is a new experience for me, its not trivial, not typically modern, immortelle and labdanum accords are very well shadowing the rose and the resins. By musky drydown reminds me For Her Rodrigues Eau de Parfum, but much nicer.

jessbug

Okay, people might think I'm crazy for saying this, but I think Citizen Queen could be Chloe Love's older sister. She's the rebel of the family, the black sheep. She drives a motorcycle and wears a leather jacket, while the rest of her family wear pearls and cardigans. She's been brought up to be classy and demure, but she's fought to become her own woman, and in doing so she will probably have a greater chance at true happiness than her mother or sisters. CQ knows who she is, and doesn't really care whether you love or hate her.

Honestly, I'm in love with Citizen Queen. The femininity of the floral powder notes (that I associate with expensive make-up) and the more masculine smooth smokey leather work together so beautifully on this sensual warm amber base. It does need to calm down a bit after spraying it on, because it can be a bit overwhelming the first five minutes (I've never had a coughing fit over perfume before). But CQ is worth it for sure!

This, more than any other scent I own, makes me feel like a strong, beautiful, kick-ass woman. I've never lusted after a perfume as much as I did with Citizen Queen!

christianne1

A labdanum lover's dream! This is chock full of labdanum, smells like the French labdanum used in Habanita L'Esprit (which smells nothing like the original Habanita btw). I like this WAY better than L'Esprit...but the labdanum note smells similar in the dry down and if you like CQ you should give L'Esprit a shot. A hefty dose of aldehydes gives this a throw back feel. It is almost like the love child of L'Esprit and Chanel No. 22. Citizen Queen is an old school meets modern fragrance. Lady meets street chic. Florals are minimal, you do not think "floral" fragrance. This is all about aldehydes, powder and sweetened - yet dry - animalic notes. I can see how CQ can be polarizing but for me it is LOVE. Sampled once and bought a full bottle the same day!

genny17

This is interesting, it is a dry scent, and the animalistic edge is quite obvious in the top notes, so is the labdanum, then it morphs into a rose/leather combination, softer, more feminine, and in the end the drydown is nicely sweet...it has to my nose a goth aura, reminds me a bit of Black XS in the drydown..can't smell any similarity with baby shampoo!? It is rich, sensuous, a bit eccentric too...all in all, very feminine and bewitching!!

Waltzing Matilda

I find Citizen Queen to be a rather non descript fragrance. The amber gives it an almost marzipan note that I don't find appealing. On me, not much sillage and even less lasting power. Unlike other reviewers, I'm not getting any rose at all, and unfortunately the leather isn't evident either. A big thank you to Ambience for the sample - it's sad I don't love it.

mirrorghost

this seems to start out as iris, leather and musk, amber and resins, which are a bunch of my favorite notes. there is something slightly sweet here, either resins or labdanum, i'm not sure. i smell the rose, but not very strongly as it seems to blend in to the other notes quite a bit. i think this is primarily and amber/resin scent after it's on my skin for about 5 minutes, and it smells very "womanly" to me.

i am really loving this, but if i smell it up close it's way more iris than rose, but if i waft it up from my arm, i get more of the rose. this is my first JHAG scent i've tried and i am happy with the results!

pravda48

This scent is like a mood- it forms that wonderful bubble of fragrance world all my own around me like our favorites usually do.

This is exquisite. Not generally being a fan of powdery or vintage-style frags, this was a gamble for me. Since I love leather fragrances when not 'spicy' or rubbery I figured I'd give it a go and blind bought on ebay.

Well this is definitely a vintage-feeling scent. LOTS of leather on me, but also lots of makeup powder smell which I dig (iris, powder tones, some aldehydes). It really dries down (1 hour) to something beautiful, but very animalic at the heart (leather/amber/labdanum). Thus from a distance it's feminine and delicate w/ a dose of dirty. Up close it's... complex, warm, and powdery but dark.

It's challenging, to be sure. I definitely like it better from wafts I get vs sniffing it up close. I was afraid upon the first wearing (realizing how STRONG it is! Sillage/longevity are fantastic on me) that my bf would be offput by it and scrunch his nose at it. Actually both times I've worn it recently he's remarked "you smell really nice" and his comments are very genuine. BF test passed!

VERDICT: Vintage lady meets badass; a face powder poof, biker leather, and an almost spicy impression behind those 2, very well blended and very recognizable.
LASTING: great! Sillage moderate to heavy
FB worthy? For me, very much so. Very pleased!

ETA: traded my bottle only because dreaded styrax has become somewhat of a boggart to me. Not sure why, it tends to turn my stomach. Unless you have a styrax problem like I, still a great scent!

katushka37

Citizen Queen on me is a glorious scent! I instantly feel dressed up when I wear it, just like adding a diamond rind or studs to your outfit.

To me the leather in this scent is cold with some metallic undertones. Rose and iris is well blended together and it is one of few fragrances with iris that I can wear. The aldehydes are very subtle and add a bit of a green note to the scent. Amber and labdanum deepen the scent making it a well-rounded composition.

It is definitely a queen of scents in my collection. It is sexy, but cold...a look-but-don't-touch perfume!

Citizen Queen can also change her mind as often as she pleases...sometimes it is a sillage bomb from just two sprays...other times it is a soft and powdery sexy skin scent. Nevertheless I always feel great when I wear it.

lanuitblanche

This is a melted plastic rose + sticky vanilla on me. I also get a boozy sweet menthol-like note, which reminds me of a drunk person’s alcohol-breath, and it is very unpleasant.

The leather is musty -- not a delicious dirty leather, not a smooth vintage Bugatti-leather, not a clean soft suede either (as you can see, I am a leather-lover) -- this is an old, cracked vinyl leather that hasn't been well taken care of and breaks apart into poofs of brown powder. The kind of cheap leather jacket that has been folded and creased in odd places and stuck in the back of the rack for three decades in the old vintage clothing shop...

2 hours into it, I get a faint peach skin. It is charming, but way too faint to be appreciated without burying my nose into my wrist.

Is it chemistry?? I so wanted to like this one! I thought JHAG house could do no wrong, as two of their fragrances are in heavy rotation for me. But this one is just sickly on me, I am very sorry to those of you who like it. :-(

stitchywitch

JHAG perfumes must not agree with me. The opening accord of Citizen Queen is overwhelmingly sharp and metallic on my skin. I love aldehydes, but these seem particularly bitter and lasting. I get the leather note, but it's a bit of a dirty leather. I was hoping for something pretty, but this was no good on me.

Zaleska

@timeazsofia: You said exactly what I wanted to say about this one.
My favorite JHAG ever!
A perfume for a true lady!

hadassa

Animato, thanks! I would never notice it without your comment, but yes, this is true, CQ seems to contain silver dust in it, my skin sparkles right now after a couple of sprays... what a nice surprise! And, again, it smells so damn good!

MommyMaudlin

Despite the strong name, this is a fairly light perfume. It's very wearable for those of us who work in an office during the day. On my skin the sillage is moderate. Not everyone can smell it, but those who do seem to like it. Oddly - and I'm telling my age here - the final drydown is very reminiscent of the original Colors De Benetton, although it's a bit more "grown-up." I guess I don't mind!

starvega

My third test from the JHAG sample set and I am just in love with this house. Strange, because I'm yet to find one I would wear regularly, but they smell so well-made and such good quality, I can't help but admire them.

This opens with soap, and talc straight up. If you enjoy something like Chanel No 5 I think this would be up your alley. The florals make an appearance after about 10mins and then the leather shows up, taking the squeaky clean edge off.

Sillage is decent, as it has been for all the JHAG scents I've tried so far. Very distinguished and classy!

Animato

But seriously.. does your skins shine too where you apply Citizen Queen? That is such a clever way for JHAG to make me like their perfume.. My arm sparkles! :D

amandaj1024

I agree with scorpiosheep- I don't get much of anything with this perfume. It smelled nice and soft with a hint of roses when I applied it, but pretty much disappeared when it dried. A half hour later when I put my nose up to my wrists, they smell clean with a barely detectable trace of flowers. It had as much projection and longevity as scented soap or shower gel alone. I really was looking forward to the leather and musk but they both were lost on me.

mendwillie

That is Sensational!
Excellent blend of iris, leather and amber.
Me this develops fantastically, with a projection above average and excellent longevity. This is my Face.

I classify it thus:
Smell: 9.5/10
Projection: 9/10
Longevity: 9/10

Guccilover

I bought a sample and i love it. It is very similar to Chanel 31 Rue cambon . I like it a lot . This one will be my next purchase.

yunvme

This one was a total surprise. Not one I was expecting to like
I don't just like it, I LOVE IT.
As the days wears on it gets even more lovely on me.
A scent that seems to stay close, but still has good projection but does not offend.
So unique and lovely I am getting stopped more than any other fragrance!
A perfume that really seems to divide people in reviews.
Seems to be a scent that either works really well or people hate it on.
For me this is a keeper.
A floral for the non floral lover. I gravitate toward Orientals Gourmands and Chypres.
Very feminine.
I agree with the reference to a scent that reminds me of a grown up Johnson's Baby Shampoo :)
I really can not tolerate Iris and is usually a killer for me. In this it is perfect.
The best floral I have ever smelled.
This is the first perfume that I can not really pick out one note, it blends into a scent that is all its own.

cheekyberd

This is one of the JHAG range that smells good even when its really hot and sunny. The fruity powdery top with a slightly amber base means it's not too heady and resinous. That's not to say it doesn't linger, because it does. It smells delicious and good enough to eat. Lovely!

ranchorita

Powder keg. Others here say this smells different to them every time, but I always get a blast of powder in the beginning and persisting until many hours later. Aldehydes out the wazoo. I would rarely call anything a safe blind buy, but if you love aldehydes and powder with a slight edge of funk, this Queen is your man.

atiet97

Been talking to myself for almost 2 weeks now...."Dang! This smells so familar...something that I like so much, but couldn't remember the name," It's that similar iris, continuously haunting.... day and night.

Then, I just remembered!!
"Eureka! It's the intense version of SHIL (Shalimar Initial L'Eau)"....feel so happy and I can sleep tight tonite.
Love you Iris!

The end.

Wemano

My first review I believe...
2 days ago I received my long wished bottle of Citizen Queen. Only tried it once before, but couldn't get it out of my head. Now it is finally mine :-)

Yesterday tried it the first time to work, so didn't want to 'overspray' it. Just one spray above my head was enough to get me through the day and leave a lovely trail behind me!
Because I was so happy with it I sprayed 2 times this morning... In the beginning it was really lovely, but later on it became to strong I believe. I could smell it really strong myself so don't know if it was to strong for the people around me, althoug nobody said anything. But this was 9 hours after applying, so you can't say it doesn't have staying power.
Meaby it also depends on the warmth of your skin, so dependable on the weather it will change.
So tomorrow I'm going to stay at 1 spray and it will be lovely!
Hope to enjoy this special scent for a long time!

antfarm

I agree with hadassa below. This is different on me every time I've tried it too.

Sometimes it's a transparent, salty chypre...other times it smells like Sweet Tarts candy...and on other occasions it is a powdery iris-leather.

hadassa

I'm not sure if I can review Citizen Queen properly since it always is a new perfume every time I put it on my skin. To own CQ is like having ten different perfumes (in one bottle). Every time I spray it I don't know what to expect, - what will happen this time? However, almost every time it's a more than pleasant experience.

One day, while being enamored with LV, LVE and Midnight Oud, I decided to try this perfume too. And all I could say back then was "well, next". CQ worked just like some boring powder on my skin, I don't know why. Just powder and some leather. Nothing interesting, no rose whatsoever.

However, I kept the sample and tried again later. And wow, next time it worked. I got the most beautiful iris/rose combination, smooth leather, and invigorating aldehydes. I got hooked and started to wear it every day. And every day it has been something new.

One day it works as a leather perfume, bold and strong, another day it is the most sweet, sexy, fluffy powdery iris, next day it's a dewy rose, innocent and intoxicating, and so on. How can it be possible?

My favourite variation of CQ is "smells like my skin, but better". My husband even cannot tell if I am perfumed or not when CQ works this way.

If you are interested in a perfume which will play with you, try this.

In five words: versatile, refined, powdery, leathery, chic.

fpih

Tons of musk, a lot of powdered iris, some rose and a fair share of aldehydes, seem to be the basis of the perfume for me. I can't detect any leather and I'm truly surprised so many people do.

Someone said this smells like Johnson's Baby Shampoo and I believe that's the most accurate description I've read so far. I don't mean to say I don't like it; Citizen Queen is an elegant, feminine but also comforting musky, powdery scent with very long lasting power and excellent sillage.

The first hour of Citizen Queen on my skin is quite different to what it smells a couple of hours later, so if you don't like the opening (I don't), give it some time for the powder & musk to develop and for the aldehydes to fade away. It becomes quite comforting later and a very elegant, feminine scent in a mature (not old lady but not a young lady either; think Maria Menunos, Scarlett Johansson or Carrie Bradshaw) way. It's a scent for every season IMO, best saved for -but not restricted to- elegant/chic dresscode.

If you want something classy and elegant, this is a great choice with its somewhat retro style. This will probably never be a HG for me, but I enjoy its many faces and different aspects as every day I'm wearing it, I never know if it's gonna be the powder, the aldehydes, the rose or the musk that will stand out each time; after wearing it constantly for 2 weeks, I still don't know what to expect every morning.

Update: This perfume appears to be getting me more compliments than any other fragrance I own! The sillage is impressive as it turns out and it's sophisticated and easy to wear at the same time even if IMO there's definitely something animalic to it. Still dislike the opening though which is very hairspray-style, but so many people have complimented on how soapy and clean/fresh it smells on me, that I'm more than willing to put up with the initial 10'-20':)

lapurrla

Citizen Queen has shown me her regal side in the warmer weather. Have you scanned these reviews? You'd think we were all testing different perfumes. Today Queen is rich and sweet and voluptuous, a little intoxicating.

Galya

absolutly (but expensive!) clon of Tocade rochas
Ha-ha-ha,I don't believe,really! Are you kidding me,Juliette???

timeazsofia

Citizen Queen is a very refined, creamy, soapy, leathery iris fragrance IMHO.

The aldehyds give this parfum some retro or vintage feeling, which I really love.
The drydown is beautifully powdery. Sillage and longevity are both excellent.

I think Citizen Queen is good for all year, at any kind of weather, (even the very hot summer days). One of my favorites :)

Baldric

This smells like peaches to me, am I crazy? I don't really get any leather either, hmmm. It is beautiful and well crafted nonetheless. I tend to not like aldehydes but this I can get behind. It has so many layers that I get a kick out of testing it on one arm with another scent on my other arm. Right now it is getting bullied by the much more assertive Tauer's une rose chypree (didn't really stand a chance). I think next I will compare it to mitsouko and see if it really is as peachy as I suspect.

To summarize, I like this a lot and am enjoying my sample but I plan on using my credit from my JHAG sample pack for a different scent.

OZ

I liked it, after a few wearing, I have to say I started to dislike it.
It opens nice a sweet then turns dark musky, harsh and pungent to my nose (similar to baby powder but so much worse). It then dries into a dry and harsh powdery scent. Not for me.

Singabera

After 2 weeks regular usage I can say - for now I fell in love with it)
Really O don't know why - I can not separate the specific notes, it smells different each time, each time I wear it I find sometning else - retro aldehydes, leather, roses, powder...
It's transparent, very feminine, suits to each and every occasion.

glitterstar181

Love it when initially sprayed. However, the dry down is a lot like Angel on my skin.

iritkaiaa120

I agree 100% with Starlight_Angel.
It opens up with a very complex elegant scent and ends up in 1/2 an hour with ordinary palmolive soap. I would recommend this smell to a teenage girl.
Clean, soapy, nice smell.

Starlight_Angel

Citizen Queen seems to be a fragrance with a slightly split personality.

In the opening, CQ is very animalic. It opens with a dirty leather, very raw and primal smelling. There is also a metallic steely coldness alongside this which compliments the rawness of the leather very well.

However, after a little while, the fragrance quietens down, and sweetens up.

What comes next and lasts for the duration of the perfume, is straight up baby powder.

Very sweet powdery rose is all I get from the dry down, and the initial animalic scent has completely dissipated by this point.

While it's very pleasant smelling and it has great longevity and awesome sillage, I just can't help but feel that it lacks a little depth and complexity.

This is one for lovers of sweet, powdery fragrances, but are not afraid of a little initial dirtiness in their scents.

It's nice enough, but right now it's not for me.

Migotka

Quite a surprise for me... The first time I tried it, I thought it smelled like a not-so-appealing soap. Now, I still think there is some soapiness about it, but at the same time, not overpowering. I guess it can go either way depending on the season.

The whole scent is leathery with a lot of iris. Despite the animalistic feeling, it definitely feels quite cosy and warm and inviting! I really enjoyed wearing it today, although not sure about getting a whole bottle.

As it develops, you can see it getting more powdery, with the rose being a bit stronger, but it stays a beautiful animalistic, leathery iris all the way through.

bacall

Sweet albeit powdery, regal albeit young. At times i catch the aroma on myself and am a little overwhelmed. However, when my boyfriend wears (he sprays ever-so lightly) it, and gets close or passes by, the smell is so incredible! In short, this perfume, despite it's split personality, should be placed right up there with the best of the best perfumes ever created.

VetiverKisses

I'm not sure I get any of the main accords at all. On me, Citizen Queen is pure (and strong, long-lasting) sweetness. It smells like the perfume Marie Antoinette would have worn had it already been invented in her lifetime. It's too sweet, perhaps, but that makes it interesting.

kris919

Don't be fooled by that leather glove pic in the main accord notes. The people who voted that leather was the main note, must've had splinters in the windmills of their minds. This is a powdery floral musk, and it most defintely reminds me of another perfume I've tried and disliked, and it's been bugging me all day. But nevertheless...it doesnt matter. The facts are: sillage is good, it follows you well. Many people will like this, it's not horrid. It's a little baby powder-like. pleasant enough. It's a safe non-threatening floral. The real main accord of this perfume is iris, 2nd would be musk. But for me..this is yet another so-called "leather perfume" disappointment.

UPDATE: I finally figured out the perfume it reminds me of. It's almost a dead ringer for Lovely - Sarah Jessica Parker. If you like that or Narisco Rodriguez, you'll like Citizen Queen. I just don't. C'est la vie!

MirabelleJee

An overwhelming flowers when sprayed, but after an hour you can feel something gentle, which reminds me Narcisso Rodrigues or some Angel Schlesser scents.

beatrix75

i have now and iam happy!citizen queen its powdery creamy floral frag smell a deep rose, violet skin ,soft musk ,clean smell too everithing its perfect very long lastin litlebit sweet but not "that"sweet 1absolut vorth the money its expensive but i must have frag elegant ,and amazed me!

iivanita

i believe this is like 3rd time luck, after miss charming and lady vengenace, this one came the 3rd in a row and it is the most sophisticated of all of them, it has longevity, it smells different then anything esle and its modern and addictive.i suppose their bestseller :)

10 / 10 From all points of view! I strongly recommend it!

sherapop

On my skin, CITIZEN QUEEN opens rather unpleasantly, with a somewhat stinky, rank quality similar to what I imagine would be the scent of a person who went camping for a few days with no access to running water and decided to "freshen up" with some talcum powder and breath mints.

The drydown of this perfume smells quite nice, smooth and almost ambery, and the unpleasant animalic quality has dissipated (along with the hygienic deodorant masking aids). My impression from the other reviewers' comments is that this is one of those compositions where skin chemistry places a big role.

Not for me, but might be great (and apparently it is...) on the right person.

susset

this perfume reminds me about: YSL Rive Gauche which i was wearing in the 70`es when i was young but i must admit that this Juliette is more complete with its fruitnotes...really an amazing perfume

Dj_play_manson

Amazing scent!!!

LaBoheme84

I never thought I'd love a perfume with prominent aldehydes... but this is different. It's classic yet modern, multifaceted and yet so smooth. Really great fragrance for winter, and it has great staying power.
I also have to tell you, I work as a casino dealer and the other night one of the poker players complimented me and said I smelled so good when I was wearing this and asked me what it was. That's never happened before!

swedeangel

A very beautiful and classic scent,a chypre with aldehydes that reminds very much of chanel no 5 and other scents in that school, the oldfashioned school of perfumes.
Its unevidedable to not draw paralelles to them, but dont get me wrong - if those can smell a bit old lady like and be quite hard to wear, this isnt like that!
They took the classical ingerdients, and made the formula light and with a discrete twist of bubblegum hardly there to notice - that makes it a young and fresh scent as well as classical!
Aldehydes and rose is most prominent.

lialuvhatetragedy

On me: Aldehydes, Johnson's Baby Shampoo Original, powdery iris, dusty rose, creamy, leathery & spicy amber. Feels very retro and ladylike to me. My comfort scent during rainy days, I love it! The whiff of this fume sometimes does remind me of Kenzo Amour from its creaminess aspect. Sillage wise :huge Staying Power: Very Good

The black and white video starts very nicely with a urban dark lady out of the underground. It describes well the idea of mistery that CQ conveys to my nose. But the end of the video ruins the poetry. Sensual gestures don't fit with the image of a strong, bold lady. As well as the rich leather of the opening doesn't fit with the cheap detergent of the background. Bad result for a good initial idea. What a pity.
Many reviewers said the staying power is good. On me no more than 5 minutes.

pumpkinqueen

Didnt work on my skin (all you could smell was leather) but on my mother it smells divine!!!! The rose combined with the leather morph into a more wearable 'Flowerbomb'-type sweet scent. Its so unique.. something you have to try out and spritz on your skin at least once.

May not have worked on me but props to Juliette Has A Gun as the perfumes are all very unique and packaged beautifully!!!!!!!

DarkViolet

First fragrance I've picked up from my Juliette Has a Gun discovery kit.

It is somehow true what Romano Ricci says about his third creation: "impossile to describe". It is, almost.
Citizen Queen is one of those scents you only have to feel, without trying to dissection its phases or detecting notes and similarities: what you get is a really sophisticated and feminine aura from the beginning to the end, with a prominent leather note continuosly evolving and developing into powdery floral nuances and ambery hints. Maybe there's also a bit of pine resin, rose incense and honey here and there... and echoes of precious soaps on the background.
Sillage and longevity are excellent: this is not what I would define an extremely strong or aggressive scent, but its projection is noticeable all the time and I can smell it after 12 hours on me.

- The more I smell my wrists, the more I'm carried to images of a XIX Century young noble woman in her room.. she wears a velvet dress, a pair of purple gloves and an iris perfume, and she's reading a book. Alone with herself, serene and radiant -

Citizen Queen definitely provides the wearer with a mysterious and unique elegance, with a touch of seriousness. I've tried to connect this scent to something dark, intimidating or even dangerous (as suggested by the ad)... but this is not what I personally get from this scent. For sure I would recommend it to introspective and artistic personalities, maybe with a slight gothic mood and style.

She is not a gloomy Queen at all, but neither a sunny lady. She is simply what she is.

Catnip

This is perhaps the most interesting fragrance from this house. The rose immediately merges with the leather, and it offers just the right touch of sweetness. As the fragrance develops, it gradually becomes softer. The rose is dusty, with a slight nuance of smokiness accompanying it. I am not sure whether incense is listed officially, but it seems that I smell some. This is a fairly dry, moderately dark fragrance, which would be more suitable for the evening hours.

I have been looking for a rose fragrance, and the rose is certainly here, but it is not occupying the center stage. Instead, Citizen Queen is keen on telling another story. The name is an oxymoron, of course, but if this is a queen, well, she might have just come back from hunting, having ridden her favorite horse. Perhaps there was a picnic, and she was sitting close to a smoky fire, as the hints of the smoke and her leather saddle mingled with her rose perfume. On the other hand, “Citizen Queen” may easily represent the idea that any woman could be powerful in her own right.

However one chooses to interpret the name of the fragrance, the wearer of Citizen Queen will likely make a daring statement. I admit it is too powerful for me, especially now in the warmer weather. I will have to try it again as a winter fragrance.

Habanita

I found this too strong and masculine on me. I didn't find rose in it much. There is more rose in "Miss Charming", I think. Citizen Queen is too musty for me.

milkyway

WHAT is going on in that video??...seriously..the juice is divine..i find it hard to differentiate between all JHG perfumes though, they all seem to smell quite alike to me..lovely but similar

lapurrla

This is my idea of a ladylike perfume. A powdery rose but as it develops the soapiness becomes a little much for me. Too much rose for me to consider wearing this.

HappyShopper123

A rather sickly powdery rose fragrance, which can be rather cloying. On the plus side, it's very long-lasting.

emufrep

It's so amazing when it's sat down on my skin

Yamba1

I purchased the JHAG samples earlier this year. As it was (and still is) my new years resolution to slow down my collecting and purchase only fragrances I absolutely LOVE, I was fairly sure the JHAG sample pack would be just a pleasant exploration of the house, nothing more. Citizen Queen was one of the first I tried in the pack, and my initial reaction was OK but nothing special. It was only upon second testing when after generous application in the morning, the true beauty of CQ came to light. This was a hot, humid summer day, and the perfume stayed with me til late in the day.
I have not experienced the powder or Chanel No 5 vibe that others have documented. Rather, this is predominately a rose drenched in amber. Throughout the day, the leather and labdanum come through, to achieve a soft animalic sexy yet romantic feel.
I immediately bought a FB...I definitely love this!
It gives me so much joy at the moment and when I wear it I feel confident, sexy and in control.

Perfection!

PS Forgot to mention- the black velvet box is just stunning!

truffles

Very retro. Powder and hairspray. This brings to my mind ladies with very tall hair. Whether ladies of the 60s with their lacquered beehives, or myself in the 80s trying to perfect my gravity defying goth hairdo.Chanel no 5, as mentioned by another reviewer here, sprang to my mind too. This scent speaks of sophistication.
This is the 4th of the JHAS samples I have tried and to me, it smells the most synthetic so far. No rose evident like with the other three. I like it!
Update: Erm, I've changed my mind, liked the top notes but not really me this one... not a keeper...

scentous

rose leather and powder, amazing fragrance..easily can be a signature scent..soft and classy..I feel like I am wearing it like a cloth or a soft blanket all over me..I feel like it is not the perfume but "me" smelling..it was a blind buy according to the reviews and yes shoot straight, this is my dream perfume..

Cereza

I didn't enjoy this.
It opened weirdly with smell which resembled for me Johnson&Johnson baby shampoo with loads of chamomille? I know it's not listed, but somehow I got that at the opening, there were no rose or anything else, after a while iris appeared, but it was very distant the same as leather which only appears on my skin for some minutes and then fades away leaving me with powdery iris and some burnt note which is just not working good on me.

delphine67

I have orderd the sample kit from Julliette coz I whas intriged by the scent descriptions and made me wanna try them.
CQ smells after aplying on skin a bit like number5 from Chanel. The same chypre. But when it settels it getting warmer and I start to smell the leather and the powdery iris. I really like this one. Its a nice and warm scent that gives a cozy feeling

sofiii

Citizen Queen starts powdery, a little bit cold and distant, modern dewy rosy chypre, with intoxicating vibe in a less loud, but strong and elegant. Weird enough, it reminds me of Shalimar, not exactly the smell, but the kind of delicate grace and elegance. If Shalimar and Citizen Queen were the same species, then Shalimar must be the golden version standing against velvet background, and Citizen Queen is blue, with some dim mysterious grey smoky colour on the background.

I enjoy the top notes a lot, however, Citizen Queen warms up quickly to something less intriguing, more powdery, flatter, and warmer. At this stage, it’s more like a modern oriental with a pinch of baby powder and a little bit of sensual musk. If it could stay like this, I would be much happier. The disappointing thing to me is, Citizen Queen goes flatter and warmer, I find it a little bit too beige/brown/warm skin/expensive handbag. However, it’s quite a good soft leather smell for those who don’t like the ‘real’ leather type of leathery notes that much.

Later on, Citizen Queen dries down to something warmer, and sweeter with a little bit iris cold powder to balance it out. I love this stage a lot, the dry down is so far the best powdery smell I’ve every smelt from a perfume, it’s well balanced, and I feel comfortable, confident and happy when smelling it (in comparison with Kenzo Flowder, KF’s powder smell has something cold and sad in it; Harajuku Lovers’ Baby, Baby has a little bit something too transparent and a little bit sweet synthetic in it).

I love the opening and the ending of Citizen Queen a lot, however, the middle notes are too flat to match the other two lovely phase. Good news is the middle stage doesn’t last too long, at most 1.5hours on me. I still recommend anyone, who’s interested in powdery comfy and still elegant and sexy perfume, give CQ a try!

Doc Elly

This is the first perfume that I’ve tried from this line, and so far I’m favorably impressed. CQ starts out as a moderately aggressive mixed aldehydic floral with notes of lily of the valley and rose, but quickly mellows out into a powdery rose with musky undertones and a hint of sandalwood. It really doesn't seem leathery to me, not animalic leather anyway, but I can see how some might perceive the powdery iris note that way. This is a beautiful, warm, extremely sensual fragrance that provides a subtle but pervasive sillage throughout the day. It’s one of those perfumes that are easy to wear because they feel like a natural part of me, not something foreign that’s been added on. A definite thumbs up!

arianperfume

Very sexy indeed, I like this one very much. Tried it on skin and the beginning was lots of aldehydes and some roses, but 30 min after smelled like hot hot skin, like a skin natural aroma after half an hour in the summer sun, on the beach,.... makes me imagine things:)))+ soft caressing suede leather, so smooth I could eat myself:)
Elegant and sexy in same time. FBW !!!
Wore this yesterday and today and work colleagues( girls) complimented me, sensual and fresh in the same time, nice, ha???!!!

NatWeb

Baby powder. And nothing else. It's not to say it isn't nice or charming in its own way but the powder note was so strong on me I didn't pick up any other notes. I guess this is what the shadow of Agent Provocateur smells like so maybe this is a good second choice if you can't take the strength of AP.

mymlan

Citizen Queen is a stunning rose fragrance with a grand aura of the softest leather and powdery iris notes. CQ lacks the rose's usual sourness in the topnotes. Instead I find it dark, with the same mote of melancholy that I also find in Paco Rabannes Calandre (although the similarities ends just there).

Citizen Queen is the fragrant image of a beautiful woman (around the 1910-20's) dabbing her warm body with rose body powder before settling in her silk sheet made four poster bed.

An utterly sensual fragrance with a great sillage and longevity.

(Second Review)
I'm creating a second review because I've now worn this more often and can be a bit more descriptive.

This scent is a garden of soft, powdery iris. The garden is tended by a woman wearing sheepskin gloves, which have been left in the sun too often and have taken on the faint scent of tanned leather.

It's morning in the garden, so the gloves are covered in dew and emanate an earthy, ambery sweetness. Rose is present, but it is too early for her to make much of a presence. Resinous, woody labdanum reinforces the amber and leather notes, securing this fragrance as a scent you could easily wear to feel close to nature, close to beauty, close to your sensuality.

Mellyhelly

I'm very interested in testing this series of Juliette has a gun and by now I only fell for Lady Vengeance. This Citizen Queen is very nice-smelling, but to be honest it smells like an upscaled concentrated version of Baby Shampoo Johnson's the yellow one. I couldn' pick up a single note, because it's all blended up in a single smell. I'll try this again anyway.
The bottle is stunning. I can imagine Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt pouring expensive baby shampoo from a silver bottle on their team of children's heads and rubbing in a tub made of fine marble.

Tarya

This wraps around me the most pleasant way. This is soft and feminine, almost romantic. Lolita Lempica is too sweet for me, this might be just perfect. Enjoyable.

Trvevil

Very beautiful romantic perfume- it reminds me more sensual Rumeur. It has also inviting creaminess that gives something tender as well. I will try it on my skin next time, it's very beautiful.
Not loudly sexy in my opinion, but mysterious and romantic.

Mals86

This is the first of the Juliette Has a Gun fragrances I've tried. I dabbed it on from a sample vial at work - and had I known how animalic it was, I wouldn't have tried it at work!!

It does start with aldehydes (may be the "metallic/acid" notes Juliette describes below), but very quickly moves to what I swear is violets, even though that's not a note listed here. From there, I smell a deep, translucent rose, and a powdery-calm iris. And then I smell skin - naked woman skin! This may be the leather note, but it doesn't smell like the leather notes I have encountered before. It simply smells like warm, naked skin that has not been bathed in a few days. I don't smell sweat or dirty underwear; it is a "clean skin" scent. Later, the amber and labdanum continue to warm the scent. Through all of this, the rose continues to hold sway in a transparent way.

I am a bit puzzled by the chypre designation. Citizen Queen doesn't remind me of other chypres at all - if anything, it reminds me of florientals like Ormonde Jayne Ta'if and Czech and Speake's Dark Rose.

If you'll read my profile, you'll note that I usually avoid animalic, or "skanky" scents. I'll break that rule for this one: it's beautiful, sensual, and makes me feel very sexy.
