Sun Moon Stars by Karl Lagerfeld is a Amber Floral fragrance for women. Sun Moon Stars was launched in 1994. The nose behind this fragrance is Sophia Grojsman. Top notes are Peach, Pineapple, Water Lily, Freesia, Rose and Bergamot; middle notes are Carnation, Narcissus, Heliotrope, Orchid, Orris Root, Orange Blossom, Jasmine and Lily-of-the-Valley; base notes are Vanilla, Sandalwood, Amber, Musk and Cedar.

This seductive, feminine perfume has been at the market since 1994 and it belongs to floral-oriental group. It was designed by Sophia Grojsman and dedicated to a modern and independent woman.

The bottle is beautiful, made of midnight-blue glass with symbols of sun, moon and stars, with a round, gold top. The flacon was designed by Karl Lagerfeld in collaboration with Susan Wicker and made by Pochet et du Courval. The vintage edition (frosted midnight blue glass) was distributed by a division of Elizabeth Arden, while the newer edition (non frosted glass flacon) was launched under Coty Prestige.

Lagerfeld's love of high quality paper was reflected in the Sun Moon Stars creation, that is why the specific, wet paper dustiness is present in the composition.

The fragrance accompanies the bottle’s design perfectly; it is long lasting and intoxicating. It opens with fruity-floral notes of freesia, bergamot, pineapple, orange blossom, lotus, rice and juicy peach. The heart of this exotic fragrance is created of heliotrope, intensive jasmine, orange blossom, daffodil, carnation, lily of the valley, seductive orchid and iris. The base carries sandalwood, cedar, amber, musk and vanilla.

@buckshot - you can find a faithful replica at thefragranceshop.com if you're ok with perfume oils. I dispaired of ever smelling my 90's signature sent of Chloe Narcisse EDP for the longest time. But they have a completely accurate replica of it which I love almost as much as the original (the scent is dead on, I just don't prefer oils). The reviews for the Sun Moon Stars type say it is just like the 90's version too. Good Luck on your nostalgic fragrance journey!
BTW I loved Sun Moon Stars too although it wasn't something I wore a lot. I have my original bottle from the 90's and I just discovered my Mom still had hers too!

this perfume made me cry because my grandma made it and i miss her

Is the tiny 3ml bottle really a parfum? It's nothing like pre-Y2K scents, even the liquid is life toilet water rather than oily viscosity. I have to stick my nose into my pores to get any olfactory stimulation and what I get is very chemical, mild rubber burn.

lanaconstantinova

Sorry I had my old one in 90s and I brought the new version in 20s, not even close... Nothing else to add just smells like nailpolish remover

Finally! I found the exact smell Ive been looking for. All I wanted was the quality of eternity's dry down as it was too 'spicy' or 'sage-y' for me on first spray. I can finally stop searching for this smell and fall in love with different ones

The original Lagerfeld version was my signature from 1994-1996. Nobody else in my social circle wore it; they were all sporting fluffy pink girly girl sugar bombs, where this one was deeper, more mature, and just a pinch dark. It was me in a bottle. A gift from my then-fiance, I stopped wearing it when the relationship fell apart, but I never stopped loving it (or him, deep down). Scent is so strongly tied to memories, and it was so beautiful but so painful that I had to let it go. Fast forward nearly 30 years, and I picked up the United Colors remake on a nostalgic whim. At first I was deeply disappointed; it was a weaker shadow of the original. Vaguely familiar but thinner, more synthetic, and missing the deep hue that I always imagined as the Moon part of the equation. I put it away and mused about how the perfume went the same way of the relationship--a pretty memory lost to time. Then an hour later I raised my arm to open a cabinet and WOW... There it was, the long-lost scent in it's beautiful painful glory wafting up to flood my senses with vivid flashes of nervous laughter, a diamond, excited promises, and the unspoiled optimism of a young girl in love crossing the threshold of womanhood. Such a sweet ache, all stirred by a simple waft of scent. In life we learn to keep the good memories and leave the bad behind, and that's oddly what this remake seems to embody. The initial disappointment of the opening fades away with a little time, leaving behind the beautiful scent I knew and loved. The magic lasts and lingers just like the memories. A true love for me, and just like true love, even this remake is definitely worth going for, and waiting for.

I was around 10yo when sms came out. My two best friends mother, whom I called mom, bought a bottle and I remember my friends and I loving the bottle and the smell too! I’m on the lookout for a bottle of this for my collection. Can’t wait to smell again and bring back memories. I don’t know if I should just buy the reformulated version or look for the original?

Such a beautiful floral musk perfume! So my story about the first time I fell for Sun Moon Stars goes like this. I was just finishing high school and already getting into vintage fragrances. A black girlfriend of mine had received this scent as a gift and she absolutely hated it. She preferred Victoria Secret perfumes. She asked me if I wanted it and I said spray it on me girl and she sprayed it on my wrist and I got to smell it. I loved it! After I experienced it the first time I knew I would always have to have it more than once in my life as I do with all my other fragrances. So my girlfriend gave me the bottle for free. The bottle in the EDP spray looks exactly like in this Fragrantica photo. Opens with some vague nondescript fruits but not too fruity, not really. Some peach and bergamot orange thrown into a blender but for some reason I am not really feeling the fruit. It's not as peachy as other Sophia Grojsman perfumes like Tresor (?) but it is as floral as her Yves Saint Laurent PARIS original. Where is the pineapple? This scent is FLORAL folks. What you get is mostly a rich and juicy flower juice. It is the flowers in a fluid syrupy kind of mix. I smell the carnation, I smell the rose, the iris, the jasmine, the heliotrope, the narcissus and the orange blossom. The orange blossom is really singing the high notes in this and joining her is the heliotrope. To me the flowers despite being multi colored seem to lean toward blue like the color of the bottle. To my nose if this were one flower and not many it is more like lupine. Smells like a bunch of lupins or bluebonnets. They are artificial in a painting by Monet. This is a floral Impressionist painting come to life in the form of a scent. It is also whimsical and playful in a fairy way. Smells like a pretty little fairy with bright colored wings and leaves a trail of a rainbow in the air. Smells like a unicorn. This fragrance matches up with the song She's A Rainbow by the Rolling Stones from the 1960s. It has a hippie flower child thing going on. I have a vision of a rainbow haired fairy princess. The flowers are heavy and if you spray too liberally the whole thing will choke you. It is a stifling scent if you spray more than two times. So the real beauty is in the light subtle effect if you spray only once in the right spot i.e. the neck the bosom the wrist. This is a flower bomb. And yet there is no real maturity to it. It has an innocent child aura. It smells like kids in a Kindergarten class playing with Play-Doh. As such I sense this scent would be perfect on a female school teacher that works with children. This is a motherly and womanly scent but young and who loves children. She is a happy woman. The perfume has a happy vibe. She is wearing a fairy tale princess costume and reading a children's book to small kids. This is not at all seductive, exotic, sultry, sexy or bewitching. It's not for a date night to attract a man. It's for a woman to wear to be noticed and complimented by other women or as I said a teacher who likes to smell good in class. This has a casual air but might suit a dressy event in the day time and in spring such as a tea party or picnic. This is a fabulous floral musk. The musk is in the dry down but it is not a sex bomb musk. It's a powdery musk that is enhanced with vanilla. There is clearly amber and it is keeping this whole thing together as a gorgeous fixative along with the musk. I'm also smelling the wood notes of cedar and sandalwood. The whole thing has enormous sillage and long lasting life. A whole day. This is my kind of perfume but I would only wear it in spring because in summer it's too gross. I also would only wear it with other women around me in a relaxed and semi formal event such as a picnic or a lunch or a tea party. This is a dreamy fragrance and I am here to sing it's praises. If you like PARIS by YSL the vintage then you will also love this one because it's got that same kind of magic floral spell going on. I love it!!!!!!!

Buckshot -- Try Fragrancenet.com I'm sure it's not the OG but, I have some and it's great! Good luck!

I haven't been able to find anything quite like this perfume, its specially unique and simply just one of the best, another Sophia Grojsman 'masterpiece'. Most of my friends are still looking for this perfume and I've tried really hard to find another bottle. Please bring this one back in its original formula so that we can stock up on it big time!

frag_nostalgia

@TDSollog 🤍 I get it. What a fabulous score 🙌🏻 I'm pretty sure your angel led you to the estate sale. It's pretty amazing how our moms perfumes can bring us so much joy and comfort.

TDSollog

My mom had a bottle back in the day, and I inherited it when she passed. I was sad to use it up… I felt the loss of my mom all over again. That probably sounds silly to some people, because perfume doesn’t last forever, just like people don’t.

Fast forward a little over five years after using up that bottle… I went to an estate sale, and SMS was there, along with some other vintage gems. I bought all of them for $65, and it was worth every penny. The first couple sprays “smelled stale”. But, “miraculously”, the vintage 90s smell came out in all its glory. It’s nearly full, and it’s awesome.

Ms. Grosjman made a masterpiece.

amgperfanatic

I remember my mom wearing this when I was younger. Smells just like how I remembered. I think the new formulation did a good job in bringing back that memory... my mom loved it! couldn't tell it was new or old

One thing I noticed is that her perfume bottle does look different. The old one smells more alcoholish? Maybe because it is very old. This new one smell last long and it gets annoying for me.

JesScent

When I was 14 years old, back in the 1990’s, this perfume was the love of my life. It was incredible & I wore it for years, until the early 2000’s.

I don’t know what happened to Sun Moon & Stars, but it no longer exists. It wasn’t just “reformulated”, it was absolutely destroyed.

It was quite lovely and I will always have a special place in my heart for my first true love of a perfume, the OG Sun Moon & Stars.

✌🏼RIP ☀️🌙✨

VeroMikaela

I kept reading about SMS on com, both good and bad. And as I wanted to test it more and more, I realized that I don't really have a chance to ever have it, being disco and hard to find. But, as has happened before, the good fairy appears, moves the wand and reaches me a miniature, which seems to contain the unreformulated edt perfume, so before 2011. Like all perfumes prior to the 2000s, it is complex and difficult to describe, frame and dissect into notes. In the end, there is no need. How do I "see" him? It has the powdery and slightly spicey accords of Grain de Soleil, Sofia's favorite peach that we also find in Tresor, by the way another masterpiece, flowers and carnation specific to those years but much softer represented than in Eternity, a fruity, juicy note of pineapple, as you only find in For Ever... And in addition, a slightly salty aquatic accord that the water lily brings to the composition. It is painfully beautiful, a real, sophisticated perfume, which perfectly suits any season. A signature fragrance. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Sally_pita^^

This is how I would imagine smell a fortune teller with a crystal ball or tarot cards.
I think Sophia got it very right.

You have this fruity powdery smell and this orange blossom which makes it smooth.
Strong notes are : Pineapple which comes to my nose first, after orange blossom and peach.
This perfume is definitely old school.
like 80ths vibe...
I imagine a group of girls going to a fortune teller, who wanna see that one guy.... who looks like Elvis.

Longevity of this perfume is very good, around 6 hr.
Silage is also good...
Original name : "Fortune Teller" or " See the future from the past"

Bangabanga

I’ll have more to say about this one later, but I am COMPLETELY obsessed with the dry down.
Luscious, comforting and elegant.
Sophia Grojsman is amazing.

REVIEW FOR RE-RELEASE:

Instantly recognizable as a Grojsman composition; its relation to Eternity and to a lesser extent Diamonds & Rubies is indisputable. If Eternity is the country club attending, austere and polished mother, SMS is her introverted, daydreaming Pisces daughter who is often immersed in the pages of fantasy novels; there's something ethereal, enchanting, slightly whimsical about SMS. Its composition feels more fuzzy, cocooning, rounded, fruity and sheer than Eternity. Peach skin, blonde woods, freesia, clean white musks and waterlily frolic around vivid carnation blooms and a powdery 90s vanilla. I think of blue crushed velvet, Sabrina Spellman's bedroom in the 90s sitcom and Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval when I smell this. Beautiful.

EloiseM

I bought this 30 years ago but I didn’t wear it long because it’s a toilette and it faded too quickly. It’s been in my collection all this time and I occasionally use it as air freshener. After all this time it hasn’t degraded at all, still smells fantastic. Soft and powdery sweet. One of my favorite bottles as well.

tessture

Goes on a white floral 90s type as expected and dries fast to carnation vanilla. Very very carnation forward. Full dry down is a sweet vanilla. It's fairly simple and might strike some as dated, but it's so darn pretty!

LillE83

I love the original Sun Moon Stars!
I have a bottle, and I highly value it in my collection.
It’s my favourite alongside Delina La Rosée.
They are very different.
To me Sun Moon Stars is «me» in a bottle.
I think it’s a masterpiece, blended to perfection. Very unique. I cannot really pinpoint any notes, just say that the dna of this scent is amazing. I couldn’t describe it for dear life in terms of notes.
But the feelings. Oh my! It’s sophisticated and cozy. And to me it’s also a bit mystical. I could imagine seing a fortune teller, in a and she’d be wearing this. IDK if I’m the only one getting that reference. But this is my second bottle. I got my first back in -97’ish. And maybe it’s the bottle design, the name, and my teen memories that lead me in that direction association wise? But I love it. And I feel so sexy, sophisticated and mysterious when I wear it.
Chefs kisses!!
It hurts me deeply that it is discontinued.

A well-balanced, grown up fruity floral...

Trying this fragrance now, you realise just what Karl Lagerfeld was trying to do in the early 90's (ahead of the trend we currently have today).

Sun, Moon, Stars (love this title by the way) is a grown-up fruity floral, but with a heavy emphasis on the "floral". Indeed, this is more like a tropical perfume as I pick up on an initially prominent pineapple note (seriously, where did we see that again until almost 20 years after the release of this perfume!), accompanied by a peach note, a hint of rose, heavy freesia, and a rich, heady orange blossom.

I love the bottle design, the marketing, the title... and it really does feel like a tropical perfume (especially the pineapple addition, which is still a rare note in a perfume). This fragrance walks a line I feel between serious and playful. It can't claim to be as serious as say, a Jean-Paul Guerlain creation for women, but it still has a hint of Samsara in that it uses heady flowers on a sandalwood base (in this case creamy sandalwood on a clean white musk).

For the reasons that I like it above, it's a shame that this one is discontinued. However it also sits in a place between playful and serious (it's actually versatile in that way). For example I knew a girl whose favourite perfume (and signature scent) was Guerlain - Samsara, and I think that is probably a more mature iteration of this one.

Ultimately, this was a beautiful creation by Karl Lagerfeld, and a rare example of a unique, thinking-outside-the-box kind of perfume. It made a unique statement for the wearer and it was a touch of European innovation before things began to change in the mid to late 90's.

It's hard to call this one a perfume of it's time, because it is still unique even today. R.I.P. Karl, you were ahead of your time in many ways, and this perfume also epitomises his spirit of playfulness, creativity and innovation.

Halsbandsittich

I have a full vintage bottle of this (100ml, still in original unopened packaging). PM me for Details.

kitsunemagic

Magical perfume! I managed to grab a vintage 1.7 oz for a decent price, its powdery, floral and slightly fruity. Sun moon and stars gives me strong celestial elven vibes! I absolutely love this! Sun moon and stars is definitely something I would rocked in my preteen years. This smells like how I imagine the character Luthien from from the Lord of the rings would smell like

Sassafras23

So, this fragrance is one of those old fragrances that keep disappointing me. (Or maybe they are simply not what they used to be, as reviews suggest). They boast loads of mostly attractive ingredients that do not necessarily translate into a mostly attractive perfume. But this is far from the worst of them. It seems to be broadly similar to Trésor as one reviewer mentions, which I’m not a fan of either. If it’s Carnation and Vanilla that are the stars of this show, they really don’t like me. And it’s a shame because it’s affordable and I’d really enjoy owning that fairytale-like bauble of a flacon. The celestial name is a beauty, too.

(There’s an apparent error in the pyramid. According to the marketing description, the top includes Rice, not Rose (as in the pyramid) and Orange Blossom.)

swedishmilk15

Something about this brings Lolita Lempicka ('97) forcefully to mind. Hmm, curious!

mira_la_rosa

My mother still has the original frosted blue bottle tucked away where she never uses it, but I will never understand why. I haven’t smelled the new versions, but reading the reviews makes me want to cuss out whoever is responsible for the reformulation.

The original scent is what can only be described as “what all other perfumes wish they were.” I genuinely cannot begin to describe the notes. I can only say it is absolutely a summer scent. Summer nights by the pool or the beach (as another commented) are what immediately come to mind. It’s not Sand, but Aquatic. No notes stand out from the others, it is stunningly blended. Sun Moon and Stars is just divine. I use it as a base of comparison for all perfumes I consider buying, not because of the notes or silage or any of that nonsense. For the grocery list of notes, it doesn’t give a headache. For the age of the perfume, the quality has only gotten better. Wether you like the notes or not, you cannot deny that the blend is a work of art. It’s a goddamn Eu de Parfum, not a chemical nightmare. The new versions do not deserve the name Sun Moon and Stars.

downtomars13

This smells VERY 90's. I get a watery, fruity, floral scent. A whole mixture of everything. It's not a must-have for me right now, but smells pleasant. Smells also like fresh flowers, along with the water after the flowers have been in it for a while.

Elsee

Thought I would give this a whirl and ordered a sample. At first, not too excited, but as time went on -- 30 min. later it's rather nice with a carnation spice to it. Not old fashioned or too flowery or powdery, etc. It's just nice. A lot like WIngs, a bit like Eternity and some others that were mentioned. But it's decent. I might order a small bottle just because the bottle itself is fun! :)

massimilianoinquieto

Ranya

The new reformulation/relaunching in 2018 after almost 10 years of absence is a fail. I can hardly recognize the velvety, beauty cashmere-like fragrance that it was before. The new formula branded and produced by United Colours Beaute Prestige is no more Lagerfeld I used to know. Chemical mess, short lasting wster very harsh and unfinished. Lots of notes are missing and the quality of ingredients is poor.
Look for the old Lagerfeld formula.

annasarahr121

I like/love a lot of Sophia Grojsman's perfumes (Bill Blass Nude, Bvlgari Pour Femme, Exclamation!, Diamonds and Rubies, Spellbound, White Linen, etc...) so I knew I had to try this -- and yes, I got the new United Colors and Prestige Beauty version that's been at Ross lately, but couldn't bring myself to buy a full bottle for $30-something, so I was happy when I found a sample on FragNet. Well, I was never a great fan of Eternity, and Sun Moon Stars does smell a lot like Eternity. I have a decant of Eternity, because of its importance in perfume history -- occasionally I give it another chance to see if I will someday "get" it -- but I now know for sure that I do not need a $30-something bottle of Sun Moon Stars.

Rozalina

I have a sample of the new formulation of this perfume. I know calling something a ‘scrubber’ is ubiquitous on a website like this, but this was legitimately a scrubber for me. I ran to the sink after 20 min because this was making me nauseated. It smells like acetone from the dollar store. Perhaps my sample has gone off (how? Isn’t this new formulation *very* recent??) honestly horrifying.

sagasår

I disagree with almost everyone that this is a winter scent. This screams summer to me. Its light, extremely fresh and very aquatic in my opinion. Its fruity, light and breezy. Im not sure if this is because I have the new formula. It almost has a sunscreen quality to it? Its extremely beachy to me. It smells of sunscreen, fruit, musky skin, sea salt and sand. This reminds me of a beach on a clear, cool summer night. The dry down is where that vanilla sweetness kicks in.

mirrorghost

got a sample of the new version...i either wanted or had this back in the day but could not remember it at all. it opens with fruits and florals-the florals i get at first are narcissus and freesia, followed by water lily. later on, when the amber and carnation come through, it really improves, though there is a faint underlying hairspray/perm solution smell here. maybe it's my skin chemistry (?)

review of original: i got a vintage mini in a lot and this time that hairspray thing is much less pronounced, and i totally remember this perfume. i sense the fruity notes along with some woods. i get peach, pineapple, water lily, rose and sandalwood. later i get some freesia, vanilla and musk. no narcissus this time at all strangely enough. the vintage is definitely superior to the modern version and smells very 90s.

chimidoro

Could a new review page please be added for the latest eau de parfum version with the white box and white opalescent bottle? 🤞💭

Fragrancekmc

Current version review. Is the non identical twin of Eternity. I vaguely remember the original and it was much “more”’of everything. I love it of course, because Sophia is a god lol.

redberrykitty

Mine went off a long time ago, but I remember this smelling really good! I kept it for the bottle because it is my favorite perfume bottle of all time -- I love anything celestial like this. I've been thinking about getting another to actually wear... I do remember it smelling floral and powdery, as the main accords suggest.

jackieoprean

ahhh..the nostalgia associated with this sun moon stars. My signature scent when it first came out. I don't know if I got a reformulation but my box says Laggerfield but isn't the frosted glass. It's more of a clear dark blue. I wore it to bed the first day I got it and woke up to the smell of hairspray. Disappointed, I sprayed heavily the next morning to smell more of what I remember it being. A sweet, amber floral that comes out after a few minutes of the initial spray. I enjoy the middle notes more than the dry down which turns to hairspray on my chemistry. So I just respray. it does last till the next day and as I wear it today, I can appreciate the amber florals of the 90's. This is something I won't wear to bed again but on days off when I crave the scent of my 20 's

jonbecca

I bought this as a gift for my aunt as it was her favorite. The website I purchased it from said it was Karl Lagerfeild - well it wasn't it was by united colors and prestige beauty. What a huge let down and I feel like I completely over paid for a knock
Off! Bummer.

SoftWisdom

I’ve already reviewed the original pure parfum and reformulated edt; this review is for the united colors and prestige beauty interpretation that was released not long ago.

I was already aware going into it that this version is different, so I’m not taken aback. It does still smell like SMS, but like a body spray version. I actually do like it. It’s lighter, a bit fresh, girly, and powdery. It’s like the original SMS as a translucent layer on top of what I interpret as an almondy musk -edited to add: I guess I'm smelling a sandalwood accord. It’s simple but pleasant. Moderate to light sillage, will update soon with longevity.

Update: By the 5th hour or so it's a pleasant barely there skin scent. Yes the older version is better, however it's still nice (and it doesn't have the funny nail polish top note of an older bottle that's turning- I have a few vintage bottles of the parfum and sadly they just don't last forever) and when I run out of my older edt I'll have no trouble spraying this one.

swedishmilk15

This is a fragrance that my nose can't pick apart. This is a musky, floral, creamy, powdery, fruity, feminine concoction, the notes blending together seamlessly to create something new that I have no reference for, in familiar Grojsman style. I smell it, and my body feels like it's in the 90's. Shares DNA with Trésor and Diamonds and Rubies. While I'd classify this as a youthful and girly scent, something about this is so dated that it feels brand new again. Sometimes I forget that the 90's are now a vintage era!

miscetera

Blind buy, vintage bottle with frosted glass and swirled cap, 70% full. For my nose and chemistry, this is edgy and offbeat, bouncing back and forth between fabulous fruity floral and powdery amber. I live for the fruity floral moments. My boss, who is really fussy about fragrance in the office, complimented me on this one which was surprising. It's unlike anything else in my collection and I do enjoy wearing it. Solid 8/10, would buy again.

Frenchghost

I have no memories smelling this growing up&no one wore this around me,i got a fb based off curiosity& 🌙 the breathtaking bottle...to me this smells like a fresh slightly fruity (warm incense)in a fresh way, lasts about until the next morning when i wake up&i do not smell any notes listed,i do not like peach or carnations at all ,so a good thing,so what im thinking is the notes are so well blended &very unique. I don't grab it to wear much, not my worst bl!nd buy,i do not have anything like this&never smelled anything like this. I love to put this on at night&star gaze..moon at night,so this is more of an experience for me i enjoy~ To be honest it is how you would think the the stars~🌙 moon the grey dust flying by the moon&cool breeze in the cosmos would smell&the warmth of the sun...shocks me because in my imagination this is exactly how the sun moon&stars would smell...no human has been up there,so this is a masterpiece based off that, anyways~ unique~

correspondencepersonal

This is a magical floral-oriental perfume and has that "Tinker Bell" quality (not because this sparkles in any way, but because the rose note takes on such a surrealistic/realistic quality). This is like a perfume that takes you on a magic carpet ride or something that coaxes the genie out of the bottle. There is a quality about this perfume which I have not experienced until NOW, as I have been exploring THIS perfume. The combination of incense and the other ingredients of this perfume puts this perfume in a whole new realm for me. This is the first of its kind to give me this type of vibe.

-------------

This is a masterpiece perfume which is a Sophia Grojsman creation.

When I first smelled Sun Moon Stars it instantly reminded me of Perry Ellis 360 degrees (the original) which was another Sophia Grojsman perfume.
Perry Ellis 360 Degrees (original) launched in 1992 --
Sun Moon Stars launched in the year 1994.

I can see the creative process here as I smell one perfume then the other. This is similar to the evolvement of artists/designers from one design (or collection) to another. The brightness of Perry Ellis 360 Degrees (original) is much sharper and brighter, it is much more clear, a bit more casual and bold.

They are both such individual representations of the notes within each perfume, although you can see the relationship as you admire one and the other. I think if you like one, most probably - you would like the other (depending on your tastes in perfumes and your lifestyle). Personally, I like both formulas -- they both have a place in some perfume wardrobes/collections.

There is a subtle refinement to Sun Moon and Stars that you can really appreciate if you are comparing the notes from Perry Ellis 360 Degrees (original) directly to Sun Moon and Stars. Sun Moon and Stars is a softer, less bright and less bold version of the other; the rose note in the beginning makes this come across much more romantic - more evening, more like a date-night perfume. (Although softer and less bold than 360 degrees, this is STILL a beast mode perfume simply because the rose note is so LOUD).

There is a gorgeous rose note in this that is dominant upon the first spray, this blends in more with the fragrance chord as this wears. This has a slight smell of melon/fresh fruit which I first smelled in Elizabeth Taylor's Diamonds and Saphires perfume. It also has a subtle note of incense which supports the melon/fresh fruit vibe making this perfume smell more Bohemian chic.

Sun Moon Stars has a Renaissance vibe to it at times, it is otherworldly - the name "Sun, Moon, Stars" really fits this perfume in a lot of ways, even the bottle and box are charming and seem to perfectly represent this perfume. This is almost like being with Copernicus as he was viewing the stars in his first telescope - there is a subtle romance about this whole perfume and the general vibe of this packaging and the artwork on the box.

I could see this being worn with blues and greens.

------------

Another Sophia Grojsman perfume is Yvresse (Champagne) by Yves Saint Laurent. Both of these share the incense and rose combination which makes both of these perfumes lean in the direction of the magical. Both have a similar vibe of incense which makes them both have a gypsy fortune teller type essence... they both smell as if they could be found in a metaphysical book store. Trying these both side by side, the notes are much different in both, but the incense and rose notes are present in both perfumes. The main difference in these two are the notes lean more cool in Sun Moon Stars (and go perfectly with the blue bottle) and the Yvress (Champagne) is much warmer with notes that are more spicy.

----------------

Although they are marketed and packaged completely different -

Sun Moon Stars has a soft incense vibe - however, the fruity notes are very similar to:

Perry Ellis 360 (the original)
Michael Kors - Sexy Blossom
L'Imperatrice 3 - by Dolce & Gabanna
Burberry Body EDP
Valentino Donna in Rome
Amethyst by Lalique

-----------
Day 2 of Testing -

The rose really - (I mean REALLY) -- BLOOMS in this one.
MUST LOVE ROSES to really enjoy this. The rose dominates after the first spray.
This also has an incense vibe to this one where it feels like this belongs in a metaphysical book store.

This is not perhaps a "crowd pleaser" - some will find this one a bit too much and possibly Over the Top. This perfume could easily come across as "Costume-y" - almost as if you are dressed as a gypsy psychic for Halloween...
This definitely creates a mood and atmosphere - instantly.

Not an easy blind buy - sample this one first.
The notes in this could activate allergies, possibly.

This has a bit of a flamboyant type quality to it.
This is definitely artsy-creative and would suit certain events -
But may not be a great every-day perfume, unless you are living a lifestyle where you will not offend people with this. This could be overwhelming to some people with allergies or sensitivities... it is THAT Strong - the ROSE really Dominates with this one.

This is another perfume which I sprayed then walked away to allow this to settle for a few minutes before returning to see how I feel about it sprayed in the air. This could easily be a perfume which has a more *Mature* smell to it, simply because this perfume is so unique and more heavy than more modern perfumes of today. This sits heavy in the air, the rose note of the perfume is not an easy wear. You would really have to match the energy of this perfume or you may feel overwhelmed by it.

There is the right person for this perfume where all elements come together in a beautiful enchanted way. You would definitely want to sample this one, first.

------------

This is a perfume that may be best for events that are held outdoors or in a large enough atrium area where those around you will not feel overwhelmed.

------------

I would never have known about this perfume if my Fragrance Angel had not recommended that I sample this.
She has excellent taste in perfumes.
So glad that I am trying this one!
Still exploring this.

Thank you - Fragrance Angel!

I recently found a modern version on sale for a good price, so I got it for nostalgia's sake... As a fan of the original in the 90s, this new reformulation was a bit disappointing. Also, the similarity to CK's Eternity is probably with this new reformulated version -- I don't recall the original being this much like Eternity.

This new version is diluted, like a cheap dupe of itself with less richness/warmth/depth. Upon full drydown (2 hours later or so) the scent starts to *sort of* resemble the original - but only fleeting notes. If you're considering re-purchasing don't spend too much $ on it, prepare for a little heartbreak and you might get mini-whiffs of the original from time to time.

Lady Lynx

Sun Moon Stars is a magical fragrance. I don’t mean that figuratively.

Once upon a time (aka the 90’s) my mother owned Sun Moon Stars. She had a full-size bottle, and because I was fascinated she bestowed upon me its teeny matching sample bottle for my very own. I dearly wish I still had that memento from my early childhood - there was something so enchanting about the bitty blue-glass bottle that fit perfectly in my child-sized palm as I traced a chubby finger over the embossed celestial bodies. Even though it was long since empty, I could still remove the cap and catch a whiff of the warm heady scent it had once held. I pretended it was a chalice for some mystical potion with which to enchant and lure in the object of my affections (aka Daniel from my kindergarten class). I longed for the day I might inherit my mother’s large bottle, which to my child’s fanciful mind would never run dry until it was my turn to receive it - my destiny, my birthright.

You can imagine then my devastation when my mother got rid of it because it wreaked havoc with her allergies.

Heartbroken but resigned, I wandered lonely and stinky in this world, certain I would never recover from the debilitating blow of mother’s treachery. How dare her medical malfeasance take this perfume from me? Surely it was writ in the heavens that Sun Moon Stars would be mine!

And, as though by fate itself, a few years ago my breath caught in my throat as I perused the shelves of a secondhand shop - there, waiting for me as if by magic, was the unmistakable blue bottle from my youth. It was dusty and splashed with candlewax but still nearly full, weighty with the promise of that powerful perfume my earliest memories could still recall. I paid the potion-seller’s price in a daze, not certain this was anything more than a daydream, clutching my treasure to my chest.

How to describe this fragrance upon my first spritz? It was as though returning wearily home after a long journey and opening the door to your cozy house - the bright heady scent of a vase of fresh-cut carnations and daffodils, mouthwatering warm spices tempered by a touch of powder, and an eventual drydown to sweet creamy vanilla and the comforting glow of amber, which swaddles you as you sink into your favorite chair beside the crackling fireplace.

Sun Moon Stars is luxurious and exotic, shimmery, it sinks into your skin and becomes a part of you, and clings to your clothes so that you still smell hints of floral and incense as you balance the laundry basket against your hip while loading the washer. It’s the scent of a secret smile the lovely young lady across the room sends you behind her glass of champagne - alluring, playful, gorgeous, elegant, tempting!

In a word: magical.

Mc1995

Collecting Sophia Grojsman creations. They are so pretty, warm and comforting. However they are quite similar, most of them. This could literally be CK Eternity for women in a round blue bottle lol. This may be the slightest bit warmer and juicier from the fruit notes. Unless your a collector like me, if you have Eternity you probably don’t need to search for a bottle of this.

Lolapoop

Seeing the prices on this beauty now ,I can't forgive myself for loosing a cap on my 100 ml. ,over 20 years old bottle .
With cap or without it however ,it still has a firepower and a charm of what was and will never be again.

Olfactionate

This is hands down one of my all time favorite perfumes. The original parfum release from the late 90s, when it sold at high end department store perfume counters for $100 a bottle, not the watered down altered versions that came later to second hand retail outlets and online stores.
The original perfume is pure magic in a bottle. A very complex fragrance that evolves and evolves and is hard to pin down to singular notes just like the celestial bodies for which it is named.
I got the original when it was first released. I received it as a gift set for Xmas from my mom. As I was a celestial phile and loved all things sun and moon.
Is actually hard for me to describe exactly what this scent is, as it seems to be a little of everything, floral, vanilla, woody, airy, earthy, fiery, and watery. Yet it all harmonizes very well and keeps on evolving from first spray to dry down, to next day lingering. It’s pure magic.
I found it works well in any season and any time of the day. But more of an evening scent.
Needless to say this became my signature scent in the late 90s, a time that was so much more innocent and enjoyable than these dark days, so when I wear this I am transported back in time to a very happy place.
For me, this is like a favorite old book or favorite old comfy sweater.
Beautiful scent attached to beautiful memories.

Amethista

Definitely a perfume to get accustomed to. At least, it was that way for me.

When I first used this, I was overwhelmed by all the different notes, that came onto me like a wall of almost nauseating sweetness (or as we Dutch call it: weeïgheid). But giving it some more chances, and getting used to the complexity of the fragrance, I really do love it at this moment in my life. It's warm, sweet, and dominantly powdery. If I have to describe this perfume as a moment, it would be a cold winter day, when I'm wearing a warm, soft coat, fully packed by my thick shawl, while I'm walking back home to relax by the warmth of the radiator, longing for a hot beverage.

It still remains a love/hate perfume to me: it's gorgeous under the right circumstances, but too powerful when it's not the right moment. It's definitely a perfume I only wear during the winter, as the scent performs the best on my skin in that season. But I do appreciate it a lot, as it is truly a one of a kind scent.

endge

For me, this is a hybrid of FM Le Parfum de Therese and Piu Bellodgia Caron. In other words, sour-sweet fruit, loads of carnation and vanilla. Extremely long lasting. It is just too eclectic and overwhelming for my taste. Give me carnation with herbs, vanilla with white flowers and wood and keep the sour-sweet fruit, thanks. But I can see how it might be just the thing for the lovers of this genre.

TwoPetals

I bought Sun Moon Stars in 1999 for the first time. I didn't understand it and, after being tired of the evidence of "wasted money", I got rid of my full 3.4 oz bottle (the worst part of it was the crime I committed with it - I think, I just threw it away). Fast forward to modern day. I got a bottle of a Hempz body lotion in Vanilla Plum, and as I was putting it on, I got hit with the most sweet heavenly sense of nostalgia! After a few days of trying to remember what was this aroma that gave me these feels, I realized that it was Sun Moon Stars by Karl Lagerfeld. Immediately, I needed a bottle, or, better, two. I go online, I search, I find out it's been discontinued. This pushes me, surely, to obsess even more. I find and buy a couple of expensive original bottles. Gestalt is closed, life is great.

However.
Recently, I stupidly bought a cheap bottle of what looked like SMS perfume on a certain auction site. In a sleepy haze I didn't think to check twice for detail shots (there were none) or reputation of a seller and hurried and bought it, thinking I was lucky and getting a deal. Long story short - the perfume I received was fake. The box says "united colors & prestige beauty". The seller argued with me about the perfume being re-released. I checked news, knowing how legendary and iconic the fragrance was - there was nothing in the fragrance community news. It was never re-released, the patent rights never were transferred to any other manufacturer. Please, beware of this. The cheap price will give you a bad-looking copy with a faint smell that may be reminiscent to the original conceptually, but even for a "dupe" the quality is scandalous. It starts with a hit of pure alcohol, with middle notes of more alcohol and then in "base" you'll hear something faintly powdery and fruity.

Air.astarte

This was one of the gems I found on a vintage/antique hunt. It's surprisingly modern, non-aldehyde, non-baby powder for a scent made three decades ago. The 1990's seem like such an interesting time for fragrance. Most vintage 90s scents I smell are very soapy, aldehyde, powder, musky and generic smelling BUT this decade was a turning point where something happened. I'm not an expert or a chemist but I'm sure if I ask one they would be able to back up my claim with facts. Something new emerged at this time. Not just gourmand notes but so many more realistic beautiful, and intense chemicals. Sadly, many have been revealed to be harmful and are no longer used. Because of this, I get really excited when I smell something like Sun Moon Stars. It's a beautiful watery floral, slightly fruity, and even more slightly powdery fresh scent (so little powder that I still enjoy it even though I detest powder notes). Something special from a special time in fragrance. I bet it was unique and enchanting when it was released. There are many scents similar to this now, but I sense something about the quality of the ingredients used that is not common. Such a realistic "watery" sensation that it's expanded my olfactory catalog. Not what a water lily actually smells like if you pick it up and smell it, but an impression of the image. Very beautiful.
I think they picked the name sun moon stars because it was such a popular theme in the 90s, especially a navy blue background with antique gold sun moon and stars on it. It seemed to be everywhere. It still makes sense for this scent, though. There's something bright and airy about it like the sun. There's something darker and mysterious like the moon... Maybe the violet. There's a sparkling quality like the stars... Maybe the watery notes.
P.S. Bees love it. I'm sunbathing while testing it and they are unusually interested in me.

lanaconstantinova

I think it was one of the most beautiful perfumes I have ever had. I just got Luna by Kemi and this slightly reminded me when it dries down. I wish I would go back in time and smell the original one once again. To me, it was very bright and sparkly like the moon itself and the stars around it.
so... I ordered it online from a trusted shop I ordered previously a number of different perfumes. It's really disgusting what they have done to it. It smells like a cheap nail polish remover. I want to cry! So devastated... I give it a month or two to settle down a bit since it just came from the US this morning to NZ...It was such a magical scent!

SimplyShandi

Finally got it, and I love the powderiness!

Allisonmsmith22

Looks like Sun Moon and Stars has truly been relaunched. They are available on Max Aroma now! Only $68. Not sure if it has been reformulated...

lmwimsatt

This smells like tresor and eternity. Yuck.

tonkatsu335

I bought this perfume because it was launched in my birth year and also because it contained my birthday flower.

At first, the scent was a bit harsh and reminded me of classic perfumes such as Chanel No5.
In the middle notes, the sweetness of vanilla is added to make it smell like a luxurious soap. However, even at this point, the scent is still too strong for me and I almost choke it.

After drydown, it smells like powdery vanilla. I thought I had smelled this scent somewhere before, so I went back to my memory, and it was similar to the scent of GEMOLOGY body lotion that I used as an amenity in a hotel in Paris.

When I saw the votes for notes, peach and pineapple were at the top of the list, so I imagined a fruity and sweet scent, but it was actually a powdery and warm scent and feel motherhood.

Finally, I wrote that the scent is harsh, but when I put it on my waist, I can smell a gentle powdery vanilla from the beginning, like after dry down, which is very nice.
It gives me a gentle feeling.

LadyLicorice

OH MY GOD
THIS HAS BEEN RELAUNCHED

beeeyearr

Bought this in 94 and found another bottle in 02. Loved it.

nadia.c

This is such a beautiful blend of wonderfulness. To me, it' s an oriental gourmand as it reminds me of sherbet: sweet, aromatic, deep.

Gosh, this will forever be registered in my memory. It's a masterpiece from the 90s, a decade where in my opinion perfumers were more daring and less influenced by trends.

Yeremeh

This was one of my first perfumes. I had no idea it was a designer fragrance, as it was gifted to me without the box in a miniature format.
This fall the memory of my most cherished perfume came back to me, and on a whim I googled "Sun moon stars perfume". Imagine my surprise, and later disappointment, to learn that that was the exact scent I was looking for - and it was discontinued.

Somehow I managed to find and opened 50ml bottle for sale near me. The scent is exactly as I remembered!

SmS makes me imagine a child's rendition of an elegant opera singer. The fragrance pretends to be heavy, but it's strangely wearable for daytime. The opening has a strong hairspray/disinfectant smell, that disappears upon application.
It has mysterious, exotic florals with a whiff of bubblegum sweetness that adds a "just kidding!" to it's elegant mystery. The base is comforting and musky, and offers a soft landing from the carousel ride provided by the opening and middle notes.

Austrian_in_Denmark

When Sophia Grojsman designed her fragrances, the last person she would have had in mind would be me. All her perfumes smell somewhat off on me, and quite a few make me queasy.

Having said that, I think that Sun Moon Stars is the best of them all. Even on my skin - which handles neither carnation nor peach nor cedar well - this is quite the pretty scent.

Sun Moon Stars is powdery, soapy, musky, floral, and very perfumey, almost costumey. Though its style is vintage, it does not smell dated to me. I mostly perceive the peach, the sandalwood and the carnation. Also a lot of other flowers which remain abstract, though they are strong. The sillage is strong as well, the longevity up to 6 hours.

I like the bottle. It is pretty in a dreamy and naive way.

labonvie

This was my signature scent in high school (along with Dune). In fact, those were the first two fragrances I picked out entirely on my own. Other classics (Guerlains and Chanels) had been given to me as a rite of passage. I remember the advertisement in Vogue, the starry indigo bottle activating my teenage mysticism. I wanted it before I even smelled it.
I probably went through 6 bottles. About 10 years ago, I stocked up fearing it would disappear and it has. I still have some mostly empty bottles from the 90’s.
It smells different to me now. More dense and syrupy than I thought at the time. I used to think of it as a light, fun floral. Perhaps it was in comparison to other fragrances I owned. I don’t get any pineapple. I do get a screechy hairspray note in the opening along with powdery iris and heliotrope. I swear there is violet, at least in my memory if not in the bottle. Loads of peppery carnation. I’m surely able to distinguish more nuances if the fragrance now, which almost ruins it for because this scent was so formative to me and therefore formidable. School dances, first dates, moving away from home. It smells like “getting ready”. Getting ready to go out with my best friend, makeup splayed over the bathroom counter, flat irons burning away, a cloud of hairspray hovering in the air like an unspoken expectation. It smells of irony and hope as expectations are continually dashed, adventures take a sideways turn but still we go on, getting ready for the next thing, the next night, the next love. It’s almost too heartbreaking to wear. But I adore it.

Marina.Klr

What a scent! A fragrance that, once you smell it, will remain indelible in your memory. So comforting... Ideal for every hour, season, age and occasion. Here we can witness a "Big Bang" of the carnation, which exudes its petals in our olfactory universe. This note really sticks out. It meets the Sun (amber), the Moon (jasmine & sandalwood) as well as the sweet stars (drops of fruits/Seeds of spices & powder).Τhe warm Sun caresses your skin, the seductive moonlight bathes your aura and the joyful stars adorn your personality for hours. A very high quality creation! ☀️🌙⭐️

This isn’t a review, just a recollection. I was reading reviews on Eternity and this perfume was brought up as a comparison on a few of them. I didn’t even remember this existed!!!! Man, it’s crazy what the mind does and doesn’t remember! This was pure 90’s perfume if there ever was one. Strong, a little headache inducing, but amazing. I can smell it in my mind right now, lol.

Allisonmsmith22

Where do I start with this one. I just received a decant of this and it's just like I remember! When I was young a good family friend wore this perfume, and it was simply intoxicating. I told her how much I loved it and she bought me a bottle. Unfortunately I was around 10 years old and couldn't wear it at the time. I gave away my bottle and moved on but never forgot. Throughout the years I searched for this fragrance and bought fragrances that reminded me of this one. Finally, nearly 20 years later I stumbled upon this beauty here on Fragrantica. Sun moon and stars was the beginning of my passion for fragrance.

The first 30 minutes are a bit rough and harsh and you might be temped to wash it off but the drydown is where it shines. It warms and softens. Just beautiful. Mysterious.

Needless to say, I plan to buy as many bottles as I can.

The same way we all have the soundtrack of our lives, full of songs that meant something to us at certain moments, I have a "fragrance-track" of sorts. All those perfumes that are significant because I associate them to memories and people along my life.
Sun Moon Stars is there, shinning pretty and frozen in time, just out of the present box my mom gave me so many years ago.
I bought it again not long ago and I can't really tell if it's the same in my memories or if it's reformulated. I only know that it smells like my youth and it reminds me of my late mom. That's enough for me now.

PS: I still think it smells pretty and feminine.

icecube

I think this is a wonderful perfume - on me it is powdery with a soft, floral fruity undertone. Very well blended - the lily is the only note that stands out. I think of "Kaiser Karl" when I am wearing it as it was a gift from him (one of many during the years I worked with him). Now when he is gone it just makes me so nostalgic when I am wearing it. My bottle is frosted and I guess that this is the earlier version as mine is from the 90ies. Seen that the later bottles is clear - anyone with info about when they changed the bottle and if there where reformulations please enlight me.

SissySuzanne

Sun* Moon* Stars is my signature scent <3 I am just in love with this perfume and I have been since I was about 14 years old. I will say that it does very much remind me of Eternity but SMS is just a lot prettier in my opinion. Many memories are associated with this scent and I usually keep some with me at all times just to sniff! I have been very lucky and was able to track down several bottles in various sizes on Ebay for not a terrible amount of money.

BettinaFox

This was my very first perfume, I got it for Christmas and yeah it was my signature scent when I was 17... :) I can't tell you how much I loved it! I still have the bottle and it's still in good condition!

Such a unique composition, I cannot even tell which note is the most intensive, it's so complex! Definately not sweet on my skin (I dislike sweet perfumes).

Julzy

SMS has been the ONLY perfume that I have been wearing since 1994. I am heartbroken! If anyone knows of a similar perfume, please let me know. R.I.P. SMS
All my love, julzy

February 19, 2019 - RIP KARL LAGERFELD..

annoflower

RIP, Karl.

medusa666

After my last post on SMS, all I have to say is this..PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE...I have been wearing SMS for the past 4 days and I have come to appreciate its truly magical scent. It needs some time, the time to be patient in order for it to release its hidden aroma layer by layer.

It is truly a mysterious fragrance made with its own spell..We live in a fast paced world where patience is so rare these days. Give one to two hours to this apocalyptic fragrance and you will smell its core of a 'galactic blend' which might indeed represent its name....
It leaves a distinctive aroma behind.
We pay the price for being impatient..and now this gem is gone.

violetstorm

oh this is one of my all time favorite scents !!! i stocked up so i have about 4 bottles of this stuff- i love it :)
and im not offended in the least when someone says something horrid about it lol...........its one of those scents u either love or hate lol

it is strong but it wears very well on me & on me i get all the beautiful powdery flowers & the amazing dry down of sandlewood , amber, musk & vanilla - oh my these ingredients always do well with me :) they make for a creamy dreamy luxury dry down on me - theres also cedar in the dry down but i dont smell that at all lol

this is a classic powerhouse powdery floral of the 90's & i would love to see this come back...........i always get compliments when i wear it too :)

i wore it today on a hike & it was windy so everytime the wind blew i got this beautiful whiff of powdery florals - it was amazing !!! and a mountain biker rode by & said i smelled great lol - so random lol - he made me smile - there i was hiking away & glisening (well really sweating in the heat & wind lol ) & im glad my perfume left a beautiful impression on the trails lol :)

louiee

Had this perfume in my youth. I miss it so much. Sweet, powdery and flowery. I miss especially the sweet pineapple scent. I wish they would bring this baby back. I would repurchace in a split second. I used to love wearing Sun, Moon and stars. Bring it back !
Edit:
Got so lucky , found some vintage bottles to stock up and use. A very delightful experience to meet again.

taureanrage69

This is a negative review, so be aware of that if you like this perfume. I bought this very cheaply, maybe 15 years ago when it was in production. It's one of the few I've disliked enough to get rid of. I can see some comparison to Eternity, which I sort of like, but SMS has always seemed very sour to me, I detected almost a fermenting-ketchup sort of smell that I could never move past. Also one of the longest lasting and reaching perfumes I've ever had. I felt almost claustrophobic when I wore this because even after multiple furious scrubbings, it still hung around on my skin for over a day later. It's unfortunate that mostly only perfumes I dislike seem to do that on me, but this one was unique even in that aspect. It was a blind buy because of the cute blue bottle, but even that didn't save it in my collection. One of the few I hope to never smell again.

justfloral

One of my olfactive nightmares.
Like sugar syrup served on an old silver spoon!
Candied ananas syrup (sticky, almost 100% sugar) + metalic note (iron, silver). One hour after spraying: headache... I don't get any flowers.
It's sweetnes reminds me slightly World by Kenzo.

gtabasso

very sweet pineapple is huge, peach, sandalwood, cyclamen, musk, orris and powdery in the base

SaturnSmiled

Warm hazy nights on a balcony, adorned by blooms of white flowers across the marble barrier and the scent of fruit in a bowl, warmed by the lingering of the summer sun.

This was a dreamy scent from my childhood. There was always a bottle of it on my mother's dressing table. Back then it was the swirl top lid and the matte glass. My bottle was gifted to me by my mother after it was discontinued and the price shot up. It's from 2002 and is the clear bottle with smooth cap.

Its fruity, sweet, powdery, a little overwhelming. But endearing, familiar. Truly a nighttime scent for dreaming away summer days. I'll miss this when my bottle is finished.

missk

Sun Moon Stars by Karl Lagerfeld is a fairly iconic 90's fragrance. Sadly this is one scent that I fear has succumbed to multiple reformulations over the years, as my recent sample is not something I could imagine having stood the test of time.

I can only tolerate this fragrance in the drydown, where it has a soft, sweet floral-musky aroma, not unlike Calvin Klein's Eternity for Women. I wore quite a bit of Eternity for Women back in the day, and really enjoyed its soapy, clean interpretation of carnation. Sun Moon Stars is also a dominant carnation fragrance, however, it doesn't wear quite as well as the Calvin Klein classic.

Sun Moon Stars is a very bold scent, long lasting too. It opens with slightly synthetic freesia, carnation and rose, sweetened with pineapple, peach and vanilla. This is a very 'retro' smelling fragrance, especially towards the heart and base where the white musk and sandalwood notes give it a signature dusty aroma.

I really have to be in the mood to wear Sun Moon Stars, I also have to remember to go light on the sprays as this fragrance packs quite a punch. As I mentioned earlier, Calvin Klein Eternity for Women has better execution, but in saying so, if you like one you may enjoy the other.

I admire much of the Karl Lagerfeld fragrance line, but sadly Sun Moon Stars fell a bit short with me.

Zetamamman

Tried a vintage pure perfume borrowed from a friend. At first it was sharp and unpleasant, probably the carnation and orange blossom (+ other shrieky flowers) that need a very delicate hand to work on my skin. I had a lot of work to do, so just ignored the unpleasantness and plugged away. Suddenly, about an hour later- BOOM! It turned into the most gorgeously creamy soft sandalwood vanilla. And not even sweet!
I do need to find my own bottle!

kati77

Lots of flowers, some wood notes, vanilla, the 90's had styles, huge components. But it does not smell typical honey, thick as the perfume of these years, it is quite pleasant.
Such a warm, romantic evening. Nice and sweet.
The name fits, durability up to 7 hours, is very good for an edt.
Somehow it also comes to my mind, somewhere in the year 97 probably, different perfumes came out ORIFLAME.. a bit similar, 1 moon, the other was a star and the third sun, so the question is dear oriflamie, or after the success you copied a good grip and instead of having your idea you went for a dupe?

LaurenBacall

Captures the zeitgeist of the '90s very well. Good longevity, I was still smelling (the good part of) this on my skin four hours or so after trying it on.

Tracyarts

Sun Moon Stars is a Grojsman creation, through and through. If you like Eternity, Exclamation, and Tresor, it's safe to assume you'll like SMS too. There is a lot of overlap between them, it has the peachy-pineapple fruitiness, but with the spice of the carnation to make it more fruit compote than fruity cocktail.

I have the EDT, and the parfum. I much prefer the EDT. The parfum seems a bit more serious, heavier on the musk and the base notes. The EDT is softer, and a bit ethereal. The cobalt blue magic potion bottle suits it well. I like to wear it on cool crisp sunny days.

It's a shame that it's off the shelves, and the only way to buy it is to pay big bucks for dead stock and used bottles. But if you're a fan of those Grojsman sweet peachies, it's a must for your collection, even if only a decant or mini.

kiraagold

Remember when you were a kid and you'd rip open the packet of Koolaid and huff that first little wisp of fruit powder?
Only me?
Alllrighty then.
There's a weird wet/dry to this one, like slippery elm and peachfuzz. 3 hours later it turns creamy floral--bright in the winter and soft in the summer--but at the end of the day it dries into a fantastic vanilla tree bark.
And the bottle makes for great curtain rod finials.

Tigi

This immediately became my signature scent when I received a bottle of it for Christmas within a year of it's release in the 1990's. Now that it's discontinued, my heart is absolutely broken because I'm not someone who is willing to just drop hundreds of dollars on a single bottle of perfume. During the years she was my signature, I would pay around $25 for a 3.4 ounce bottle and anyone who runs a quick search can see the present asking prices!

Thank you to the Fragrantican who educated me about IFRA, a lesson learned due to the bafflement and dismay at Sun Moon Stars' mandated demise.

I find Elizabeth Taylors' Diamonds & Rubies (though a shade spicier) as well as her Diamonds & Sapphires (though fruitier) to be very similar, each almost a dead-ringer/ dupe for SMS. I'll add that both are stellar performers with regard to sillage and longevity and their value, or cost-to-quality ratio, is off the charts superb. Calvin Klein's original Eternity for her is the most similar replacement for SMS, in my opinion, though.

I presently have *two 1.7 ounce bottles and one mini of the pure parfum and intend to cherish every last, beautiful drop.

My Grandmother (Her name is Naomi but I called her "Omi") had this on her vanity in the mid-90's. Omi was always very fashion forward! I have always loved perfume but this bottle cemented my love for fragrances even more!I loved the bottle, it looked like something that a fairy or an angel would gift to a princess. It looked like it held star-dust or dreams or unicorn tears!

I can still remember my Omi's vanity, she had Clinique face cream that smelled like nothing (fragrance free) a HUGE Mr. Peanut Tin for loose change. A black and white picture of her Dad in a simple silver frame. She had a big blue pouf-like chair and she had lace-edged hankies in the drawer which I would take out and play with, draping the lace edge over my finger and pretending it was a bride or princess or a princess-bride.

I haven't smelled this in years but I know I'd probably still be very fond of it, I remember this smelling very sweet, powdery, very feminine, very pretty but sort of musky and warm too. Omi loves Shalimar by Guerlain for Autumn/Winter and she wears L'eau D'issey by Issey Miyake in Spring/Summer

This was my desperate attempt to find something to replace my beloved Avon nightmusk.
I have to say it was a success!
I love it.
Light, floral, powdery musk.
I started using this and then....boom. Lagerfeld stopped making it.
I seem to doomed to find lovely fragrances which are then discontinued :(
I have found some on e bay and thanks to members of fragrantica I have also bought Elizabeth Taylor diamonds and rubies - both by the genius sophia grosjman - and which smell very similar to me.
If you like subtle powderyscents this is for you.

This review is more about my special memory rather than about its notes. Ahhh....this fragrance brings back many great memories. Sun, Moon and Stars was a Christmas gift from a young, smart, handsome "marriage material" man, at that time. We met at a hair salon of all places (with foils of highlighter in my hair). He came from a good family and background. Every time I wore SMS to the office, daytime, dancing at clubs, nighttime, shopping, or anything, people would stop me and ask what I was wearing. It became my signature scent for a while. Unfortunately, purchased it recently and it did not smell the same. Most likely reformulated. Although the man and SMS are not a part of my life anymore, the good memories will remain a lifetime.

aquarius_moon

There are 90s scents still hanging around my drawer—some of them because I can' bear to finish the bottle of a discontinued masterpiece (Kenzo, we'll never see your like), and some of them because I didn't manage to soldier on and use them up in 20 years. Sun Moon Stars is in the latter category.

If you like it, you like it, of course, but if you're just reading because you're on a quest to sample some worthwhile oldies, save yourself the trouble of hunting this one down. You can find Sophia Grojsman's masterpiece Eternity on just about every corner (not that they're alike), while SMS deserves oblivion. If it were a record, it would be neither a seminal piece nor a brilliant yet underappreciated B-side. More like a major label flop we tried to like for a while because the marketing was so persuasive. A flowery-fruity concoction, nondescript at best, and to my nose, even unpleasant because of the compote-like sweetness.

orpailleur

I blind bought this one in a duty free shop in Japan a few years ago to get rid of some useless change and try a Lagerfeld (he was in the plane in 1st class and I easily recognized him as he was the first person to step out), being aware of the risk of financing haute couture rather than making a good deal. Then forgot it in a drawer and fell on it again a few weeks ago and finally opened it. What a deception: For an hour or so, it smells like some anonymous artificial flavor a la 2 or 3 bucks an onze, and then only I get some too peppery carnation for one more hour, and finally some true floral scents, but too weak to define. So for me this one doesn't make ... scents :-) !

meliecat

Lovely and now vintage..iIt still pops up in shops though, but I wouldn`t buy it anymore, no matter how we were great friend a while back.. Vanilla, heliotrope and something heavy in it, not sure maybe the orris - it makes it maybe a bit masculine even..I sprayed it on my boyfriend and concluded that even he could get away with wearing it..Juicy and flowery but not harsh, more like deep and grounding without overpowering. It`s more interesting than a lot of perfs from the time and for me very much of a throwback to a romantic summer night in the 90s. Every time I take a sniff of my big bottle I`ve owned for the last 6 years is simply pure joy, but I just wouldn`t wear it anymore. It still is a steady piece in my collection and after going through at least three 100 ml bottles in my life, it will remain an indelible edit.x

raadje_staartje

My mum used to own this perfume and I always felt nauseous when I tried it on or when smelled it somewhere else.

fleurdefi

I loved this fragrance when it first came out and my mom wore it and I used to steal spritzes of it. I rediscovered it last year when I received it in a swap and I still loved its floral spiciness. But recently I moved to a colder climate and tried it on a chilly windy day. Love turned to absolute adoration. The peach and vanilla moved forward and turned spicy into sweet and creamy. The rose also came up and blended beautifully with the carnation. It is absolutely breathtaking and one of my new (old) favorites. What a surprise!

Sun Moon Stars Eau de Parfum Spray Blue Glass Bottle

Such a delicious perfume!

I love fragrances like this, a fruit flavor, sweet & casual. Sun Moon Stars was for me a day wear perfume. She was a pineapple juice and apricot juice, peach booze & orange blossom. I equate her with those very fruity florals from the 90's i.e. Deci Dela by Nina Ricci, Tresor by Lancôme, Donna by Pavarotti, Volupte by Oscar De La Renta, Cartier So Pretty & Chloe Narcisse. If you like any of these scents, you'll love this if you still haven't tried it. It's a discontinued fragrance so you will have to make the big leap into blind purchase, but trust me, it's worth it.

The bottle is very artistic with a sun burst logo and blue glass. It's not overtly feminine looking although I think the scent is more on the feminine side than unisex because it does come off as very fruity. The first notes that reach my nose are always the peach, the pineapple & orange blossom. It's not too citrusy because that peach & pineapple combination is the key ingredient. Smells like a fruit juice and if it just wasn't a perfume I'd drink it. The fruitiness is evocative of the summer time.

Florals in this scent include carnation, rose & heliotrope and a big orange blossom. The orange blossom is the more dominant floral note and it's tagging along after the citrus, and once the scent begins to dry it's powdery because it might have an orris root & at any rate heliotrope can be quite powdery. This is a delicate powdery floral scent when the fruit notes fade. At the same time, she is spicy, balsamic, & vanilla. There is also sandalwood which tends to make it a bit Oriental. I can really smell that sandalwood, it's my favorite note. The vanilla & amber are in perfect harmony. There is a light musk at the very end of her performance.

This perfume is simple & easy to wear if you're already used to fruity florals from the 90's. Yes it is outdated by today's standards but she smells so good and no one complain about it. I always received compliments on it and still do. Sun Moon Stars is a Sophia Grojsman perfume, the same nose behind so many fantastic fragrances like Tresor & Eternity, Ex-clamation Diamonds and Rubies and so many others. I don't think of this perfume as being too much like any other of her frags although it reminds me of a more grown up balsamic Oriental version of Exclamation. She is definitely mature but sweet & vanillic. Though it has been largely discontinued she sells online on ebay and Amazon.com among other sites. Highly recommended.

When Lagerfeld discontinued KL, I was completely distraught. His "Sun Moon Stars" is composed of many of the same notes, so I bought it to try, sometime around 2001. The bottle is so gorgeous and lovely to display. The fragrance itself is soft and sweet and actually nothing like KL, so I was disappointed in that aspect. However, I enjoyed SMS for itself. There is a juiciness to it, a little like bubblegum!

socorrosouza

This is such a beauty, an angel, a fairytale perfume, such a pity that I can feel it for only 5 to 10 minutes since I am anosmic to peach, but sum Moon Starsis worth it.

shauna.parra

I was so enchanted by this perfume!

The bottle looks like something a fairy god mother would present as a gift to Cinderella

Something about this fragrance is innocent and child like, like a grown up perfume - for a little girl!

It reminds me somewhat of Coty's Ex-cla-mation

An actress girlfriend of mine wears it on stage when she performs as Juliet from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and as Cinderella from Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella.

This is a theatrical but sweet delicious scent.

This is a fine fruity floral with juicy peaches, apricots, pineapples and citrus. The fruit here is not sweet (the florals are sweet) and instead they develop like fruit juice or fruit concentrate.

It is also rather oily, spicy, balsamic and it looks like they used less synthetic chemicals than usual. It's like the real deal folks, perfume oil.

This is a gorgeous peach when it opens and then becomes citrusy floral with an orange blossom.

Orange blossom is the biggest note here.

The heliotrope and vanilla are paired up nicely.

The powder notes are soft like little puffs of peach or orange colored perfume clouds.

This is such a boudoir fragrance.

It can be very soft and mild, so it won't hit anyone's noses if you're drenched in it. It just doesn't have too much of a projection or sillage. It's still very detectable and on you for hours though.

I wear this to dinner dates and my Stephen loves this fragrance although it's not at all a sex bomb or aphrodisiac.

Girly, sweet, somewhat spicy, very fruity, floral and powdery are words I can use to best describe this perfume.

The dry down is a creamy vanilla and I love it

Sun Moon Stars is like the reviewers have stated below, exactly like they describe it. I also do think of it as a princess perfume, a fairy tale fragrance - for grown ups.

This perfume smells interesting and strange. If you want to define it you can t really because it smells strange. I have it since little, stil have the bottle with some perfume left sice 25 years ago. When i first smelt it i couldn't say it smelt natural nor fruity, i couldn't detect what it was made of, that is its strangeness, it's ingredients make it smell like some sort of weird spichy combination of some sorts.

First spray is sweet but with a dark aura, dusty powdery and oily on my skin, as well creamy and has a delicate kind of smell so different, strange and misterious. So first spray if it be analized is of juicy peach, sweet sirupy like an essence of a flower (the orchid) and honey like and then it settles to a soft powder. It is fruity as well, delicate, strange and feminine.

Some days ago i sprayed this on and left the house when i came back my room was smelling of it, it is long lasting.I don t know why but it works well in a house made of wood, that s how i see it, i find it a comfort smell - i would spray some books with this make myself comfortable in a chair near a chemine with wood with a glass of wine and start reading.
It is feminine, heady, beautiful and sophisticated.
Because of it's dark heavy fascinating aura, drawning yourself in it ...and has it's own feel good vibe; i'm not always in the mood for it but when i am i luv it.

Smelling it again now makes me think of nivea cream and spices.

Hmm i found that it smells like lemon, it smells lemony at one point and woody and salty as well.

I am in my element when i have it on and it is one of my favorites, luv❤

This little gem deserves more appreciation by perfumistas everywhere. This is a Sophia Grojsman one of the biggest noses in the business who gave us such masterpieces as Vanderbilt, Tresor, Diamonds and Rubies, Eternity and many other perfume classics. This is a powdery scent of flowers and vanilla. At the first whiff I get some sweet fruit. There was something like an apricot but it could be the peach. The peach in this scent lingers and lingers so that it never does turn into a mature or heavy floral. All the flowers are soft: heliotrope, which is powdery, rose which is also powdery, and orchid. The dry down is amber and vanilla. Puffs of little powder waft up out of this pretty little blue bottle. I keep this on my dresser table. It's light and inoffensive so even if you overspray it sticks to your skin like a syrup and it does not project outwardly too much. It's a fragrance to wear to any event at any time day or night winter spring or summer. A very beautiful fragrance.

MissButterfly

Amazing scent.
My mother used it, now I use it. The beginning was hard and I disliked it (on my mom it smelled warm, cosy), now I love it.
I have to admit that I had to "grow" to wear it and appreciate it among sweet, tropical, beachy scents on my shelf.
I am not a fan of vanilla, but here it is cold, metallic; even peach is not so juicy to my nose.
It lasts for hours on me, the whole work day. The opening is strong, but it ends with beautiful delicate flowers, also the vanilla becomes more warm with time.
Eternity is milder to me. I love both and will use it as long as possible!

It smells best during winter and autumn. I am amazed by the fact that it actually whispers: 90's! yet it is modern. Ageless.

Il sent exactement comme " Diamonds and Rubies " by Elizabeth Taylor ... La tenue et le coté épicé en moins .. Mais au nez peu de différence ..
Pas le meilleur des Karl Lagerfeld...
Peu de tenue mais un sillage agréable

Le_Coeur_Gothique

For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;

Her name was not Annabel Lee, but the one which exemplifies beauty since antiquity and brought Troy to its knees. And I guess her sparkling aura was the sun missing from E.A.Poe's immortal elegy.

And now she's gone...

The lodestar of five wonderful years of my life has stopped twinkling. And the perfume which was once the epitome of immense tenderness and fearless devotion has now become a lachrymose memento mori.

She was living in Sweden for some years now. I believe she somehow belonged there, for, despite coming from the easternmost part of the Mediterranean, she was a tall blond green-eyed Valkyrie.

I still remember the day when she stormed our tiny appartment some 20 years ago, looking forward to show me her newfound objet d'art. She was like a night witch caught red-handed in broad daylight with a blue sphere of rather questionable intents in her hands. I couldn't help but admit that what she was holding looked and smelled so very beautiful, but still, I asked her what was it that she found so irresistible about it.

"First of all its name keeps my alien heart dreaming. Then, I love the idea of holding a tiny cerulean cosmos in my hand and be its ruly queen. Oh, and this is where I shall be roaming when I'll leave this planet...in a hundred years from now."

She left at 42, 80 years short of her giggling expectation. I guess she could no longer resist the skies beckoning her.

She fought bravely till the end.

I sank in a corner, rerunning the reel of our time together in the theatre of my mind. Drowsy mornings, lazy noons, wistful evenings, tender nights, quirky days, sweet cravings, hilarious fights, all reeking with Sun, Moon, Stars, the perfume she loved the most. I won't label it as her signature, for her true signature was her mere existence, knocking silly my enamoured heart. When I raised my head anew the night had already began to unfold its inky, condoling tentacles all around me. I can't recall another time of my life being spent in such an "idle" way but I guess I can't recall such a cataclysmic downpour of memories either.

I sprayed some of her tiny cosmos on me and hit the streets, melting in the warm Greek summer night that she will never feel again. I'm sure she'd never want me to shed a tear for her, but this is her only wish that I find impossible to grant.

Farewell my beautiful sköldmö. Please don't be sad that hereafter my gothic heart shall always be a little more gothic forevermore. I hope you'll find peace someplace between Mount Olympus and Valhalla. Someplace amongst Suns...Moons...Stars...

Sammi_co

I prefer Eternity

Mmm...Smells

UPDATE:

Idk what happened, but... I'm in love. I've gone from a solid "Meh" to nearly Over the Moon.

Anyone know what the deal is w/ the recent, huge price increase?

She is not what she used to be, for sure.

Back in the day, when all perfumes were glorious, and you could spray them on Friday night, and still smell them Sunday morning, this was a different fragrance.

I don't much care for what it is now. It smacks you in the face w/ carnations. Longevity is about as good as most things that pass for 'perfume' these days.

The drydown is quite good, however. I have a hard time NOT sniffing my wrists.

ETA: Thank you, Kameron! I didn't know.

Southern Blonde

This is fantastic. I'm so glad I got into vintage perfumes from the 80s and 90s. I always get tons of compliments when I wear this. This is a romantic perfume. The feelings it evokes are of innocence like a memory of a first love. Even though it does have a sweet innocent charm it's not girly or teenager type either. It's definitely for a grown woman. It's a gorgeous bouquet of flowers: carnation seems to be taking the lead followed by rose but it has plenty of powdery heliotrope and iris, orchids, fressia, water lily lily of the valley and jasmine. The fragrance is mostly floral and as for the fruit notes all I got was the peach but it did something weird and it seemed to appear after I smelled the flowers. The peach then turns into vanilla and it sort of kind of smells like a perfumed version of peach yogurt. The vanilla in the dry down is absolutely divine. I think it smells so good and the bottle is very pretty. This makes me think of something worn by a fairy or a character in Lord of the Rings. So beautiful.

Madrona

Okay, seriously, this is a dead ringer for the smell in the dentist's office where I grew up. My SO thought I was going crazy so I stuck the bottle under his nose. He was silent for a couple of seconds, got a funny look on his face and said "okay, you're right". That said, I don't dislike this scent, it is rather intriguing, but it will forever read "dentist" to me.

ParfumAmour

I find this to be like a candy perfume, it is so sweet, fruity and light.
I agree with another reviewer that is is child like.

Gigi The Fashionista

A FAIRY TALE FRAGRANCE

Fruits, flowers, vanilla, amber and woods. What's not to like? This looks like it would be a power house fragrance but on me it turned to be quite soft and sweet. It's almost child like. This fragrance is like Sophia Grojsman created a perfume that would depict the world's most famous water colored novel ever, The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery, published in 1943. The wise Fox in that book says "The time you have lost for your rose that makes it so important". This is the kind of fragrance you savor and appreciate every second it's on your skin. This fragrance evokes a flight on a hot air balloon. There' something about it that creates a vision of flying over soft clouds

It starts with fruit notes: pineapple, citrus and peach. The peach is the big player as it opens. After that I get a soft dreamy rose scent, but deep, velvety and like a fairy tale. This is a rose placed over the body of the "sleeping" Snow White or Sleeping Beauty. The floral heart is heavy with carnation, heliotrope, orchid, orange blossom lily of the valley narcissus and jasmine. Each of these floral scents are pretty much trying to get you to notice them. And yet it's light and tenuous like a blurred vision of looking at a flower garden in a dream in slow motion. This fragrance lasts forever. By the time it starts to dry down you feel the woodsy notes the sandalwood the amber and the sweet vanilla. I can't tell you how much this fragrance affects me. It's Sophia Grosman's masterpiece. She has created so many great fragrances and I have reviewed and enjoyed others like her Sotto Voce, but this one is truly special. Can't find the right place to wear it as it smells like something only a mother could wear. I'm not a mother but I would love to smell this on mothers. It's very Princess Diana, very much a fragrance of peace, love, and goodness. Maybe I'll wear it the few times I attend Church. A spring and summer scent but more complex than that. It's like a beautiful dream that became real, and became a fragrance.

Hoolly

Fantastic, characteristic, long-lastig fragrance. I have had the old version about 15 years ago.. It was lovely memorable scent.

Katieg

I'm confused. I'm certain I tried this on in the 1980s because of how well advertised it was at the time and it didn't smell the same as the bottle I bought a few months ago. There seemed to be more citrus but memory is fickle. The main note I get is strong carnation which seems to dominate all the other notes. Having said that I do love carnation. And this one has real staying power. And the bottle and cap are really lovely. I also like the men's Karl Lagerfield on me but my son HATES it and said his co workers and family on his wife's side hated it too. Just goes to show I guess.

kati19bo

This is the first perfume I can smell on my skin after 10 hours; found it strange at first, intriguing as if I expected it to reveal something more.. Beautiful, feminine, heavenly, the heart and soul of being a woman. Loving it.

SoftWisdom

This was the very first perfume that I fell in love with, when I was gifted a mini bottle as a girl. I never forgot about how I loved that scent in its mysterious bottle, so, many years later I decided to find some. After finding out that the Parfum had been discontinued, I got the EDT version, which is nice but only made me want the original one more! I hunted down an original full bottle PP and got a mini of it too, and I am in Sun Moon Stars heaven again. It's an ethereal perfume for me. It's soft, feminine, and magical. Like riding a pegasus through peach marshmallow clouds at midnight. Wonderfully dreamy. Sometimes I apply PP to pulse points then an overall spray with EDT.

Planet_X

First of all, thanks for MrsLetterO for this Christmas present, we had great people in community, who love to give for the sake of giving, bless them.

I had a mini of this underrated fragrance for a while and I couldn't understand what I feel about it, only that it is very unusual, until I was not able to spray it properly. In Sun-Moon -Stars Sophia Grojsman is at her peach-best. Very "on it's own", very rich, structured juice with this baked peach-twist and carnation spice that makes you think at once about mulled wines and boxes with candied raspberries. Orris root makes it all powdery and murky, its not a watery juice by all means, with nice woody-sweet base and on me lasts about 5-6 hours easy. Wearing SMS you realise that yes, it's a Christmas time and yes, Sophia Grojsman loves women.

India Oceane

I'm a huge fan of the bottle. I'm not a huge fan of an even more peached-up Tresor.

honeybeesweet

The first time I wore this my older sister asked if I had started smoking because I smelt like an ashtray. I swiftly gave it away to my youngest sister. Surprisingly it smells wonderful on her.

jkmt21

i picked this perfume on my own, based on the opening notes and the lovely bottle -- big mistake! after a few minutes i hated it so much... i kept it for a while and finally had to give it up, it was too intense, and too unpleasant for my taste, i gave it away, it was almost full, i still remember the regret i felt because i really wanted to like it. now, after a little research and comparison, i know that my dislike comes from the carnation notes, i'm yet to find an exception to that specific aversion.

relle

It's so odd how diverse these reviews are. I'll put my 2 cents in. On me, this one is more of the sun, with the dry down the stars. It comes out very sunny orange blossoms, no carnation, heliotrope, pineapple, etc. and warms up on the side of woody/sandalwood you, peachy, slightly spicy. The dry down is worth the wait. I detect a hint of vanilla and amber, making for a memorable scent. This review is for the vintage formulation. I have it up for swap on the vintage topic, but now I'm a little wavering. ...I may want to save it for a rainy day.

swampgirlie

Sharp, screeching carnations in a vase of vanilla spiked pineapple juice.
Having said that, I did wear this in the 90's...
My fascination was with the bottle. The perfume itself I found wearable.A little on the loud side but I distinctly remember a spicy freshness that literally lasted all day.
Jump forward 20 years. What was I thinking? Scored a bottle at a very high price with much anticipation.Total Bummer.I literally had to scrub this off. Overpowering alcohol followed by an assault to my senses.

I recently found a bottle of this while clearing out old boxes in my loft. I'd had it since I was a teenager (I'm in my 30s now, so it's a bottle from the '90s). Miraculously, it's still in perfect condition and hasn't turned.

I was so excited because I used to love this fragrance and wore it often. But unfortunately, it would appear my tastes have changed and now I find it far too sweet. My teenage daughter now has it and she loves it as much as I used to.

This is mostly fizzy pineapple, carnation and lily of the valley on me, with the pineapple being the strongest note from start to finish.

I find it pretty linear. There's a creamy vanilla in the background of oh-so-many fruits. The floral heart notes may give the impression of it being something else, but to my nose anyway, this is fruity first and foremost.

It's very sparkly. It's uplifting and happy with moderate sillage and pretty stellar longevity. Plus, it's a bargain price-wise.

I'll no doubt be buying more for my daughter and I can certainly understand what makes this so loved, it's just not for me any longer.

kylexora

I blindly bought it based on review here and end up in disappointment. Not to say a bad perfume, you guys are right about wonderful feeling you have towards this perfume but unfortunately I can't feel it. Maybe because of our taste is different and we appreciate differently. To me, the major accord is way too powerful and give me instant headache. But, I sprayed it in my bedroom and it smell wonderful from the kitchen. I cant wear it close to body as my nose is close to my body, I just cant stand the smell, even after an hour.

If anyone interested to SWAP, I am happy to send you an almost full 30ml bottle.

Jernê Knowles

Sun Moon Stars is one of the most powerful perfumes that could already feel and have in all my life, and I'm not afraid to say that perhaps one of the best flower that ever sat on my humble skin. Sophia Grojsman is ace, and makes each scent the pyre people imagine only in what will be created, as has already been created, and so on, trophies to this performer that does not mess around and offered us this Floral with East footprint horses dose that intoxicates the first sprayed to the last breath heavy and bulky in its evolution.

The output of it is a floral bit confused especially the Rose, only it is a sour and has a pineapple nuances ranging Rosa also giving a feeling kind of tropical, but at the same time stifling for those notes being too intense for an opening and other hyper noticeable point here is that this output lasts more than the complete evolution of many perfumes that are there in the market overall. Crazy thing, output that lasts 8 hours ET is of thing [laughs] ...

Then it becomes more floral, passing an odd femininity which refers to the times of innocence, refers to women who were gourds until the age of majority, refers to clean sheets, refers to descendants vintage and light-colored clothes, and also foods healthy and fresh, these things of ancient times that transmit peace and happiness to the extreme. Carnations, daffodils, orchids and jasmine, all veeeeeeeeeery evident at this stage!

His farewell is a high concert, which does not lose its characteristic floral and comes in tandem with base notes of sublime and lavish manner. There is a charm from the combination of vanilla bitter, between the very Musk that gives it a certain sensuality content at this stage and another very strong touch of noble aromatic wood of cedar, you can feel that ardorzinho characteristic of wood, but anything that does not give to support. Perfumaço in every way, fixed and projects up too, comes to fatigue and confusion in the emotional field! [raughs] ...

PerfumePatty

I love this perfume so much. It's my signature scent. Lately it has become very expensive. If anyone here has a bottle they would be willing to part with, I'd be happy to swap with you...feel free to PM me. Thanks!

AlexisJane

I had a 10ml of this as a child and liked it, but had to throw it out as it went bad. I remember loving the smell and loving the way it smelled on me, so I bought a bottle of it a few months ago.

And I've sprayed it once since acquiring it.

Now, the perfume is identical to the way I remember it, but now that I'm older it gives me masal headaches, and the pineapple comes out on my skin rather offensively, something I didn't experience before, so this is a testament to the face perfumes can change on your skin as you get older.

I don't think I'll ever wear this again, but I'll keep it for the sentimental memories I have with the perfume, and the fact I really do love the bottle.

Infini

Pure unadulterated sexiness in a bottle! That simple!

Tarin

I'm having a bit of obsession with 90's perfumes at the moment which is why I bought this, having never owned it or smelt it before. I really wanted to love it, I really did, but as someone who isn't the biggest fan of pineapple, especially pineapple juice, this smells like a pineapple milkshake to me, made with artificial pineapple syrup, which makes me want to gag just imaging what that would taste like, and this is what I got from this perfume. It was just too sickly. I do agree with other people that the dry down is much nicer, more subtle and the other scents come through, but I think because I know that sickly pineapple is in there, it's all I can think of when I smell it so it's not going to work for me. Still the bottle is pretty so it will still look nice for my 90's collection.

MaudeScent

Back in secondary school when I wanted Calvin Klein's Eternity so badly but couldn't afford it, I bought this instead and..... WOW! An even better of Eternity. Right now it doesn't fit my personality anymore. I consider myself too classy and less youthful nowadays haha. Only a small correction on the main accords: I would not at all think of this fragrance as powdery.

LucyLucy

For some nostalgic and sentimental reasons I was still on the searches of this amazing perfume till now (the vintage version!).... It's a mysterious sexy scent almost magical in a bottle! I can't find it anywhere now.....The depth and the longevity can make you easily forgetting about the latest perfumes they had on the stores today!

To me it's a happy perfume, sweet, rich and heavy. I don't wear it often just because I want to give all of my perfumes a chance but as an example, last fall I wore it when it was a cold autumn day and it was pouring rain but this perfume kept my mood happy even though I was wet and cold and should have been miserable. This day remained memorable because of the Sun, Moon and Stars. Even though they are not very similar, Dior Dolce Vita had the same effect on me, this happy sweetness. And I am a Cabochard girl:)

People i am going to tell you honest what this perfume is all about.

It is not powdery if you are looking for that.
I bought this blind and smelled it and what was i dissapointed so i sent it back as an complain.

Its more of a citrus blend with amber thats what i smelled.
I just wanted something more softer and strong at the same time but this was just a waist of time for me.

Review for the frosted bottle EDT:

I've been on a pineapple kick recently, and decided to give this a shot despite the negative reviews. My immediate impression upon spraying was that it was what I had been expecting from Guerlain's Insolence. Very fruity, almost acrid florals, the slight artificial gloss of freesia...it was a little uncomfortable, but intriguingly voluptuous, and definitely created an impression of edgy elegance contrasted with impetuous sensuality.

The fruit fades within the first hour, and the freesia does as well (yay!) What's left behind is a surprisingly spicy blend of woods-seriously, there's got to be a missing note, this is SPICY- a wonderfully buttery narcissus/orris root accord, a touch of orchid, and a warm strong carnation note, providing a touch of sharpness. From time to time I do catch something that smells like nail polish...faint, just a hint. It's like a practical joke is being played on the wearer. Vanillic heliotrope also wafts in and out during this phase.

The heart isn't sweet, and it's more the oily version of the often powdery florals. For me this is a sign that real ingredients were used, rather than synthetics.

After a couple of hours the powdery aspects of the scent appear, and it sweetens quite a bit, resurrecting that almost voluptuously feminine accord- think layered raw silk, cotton so thin it's almost sheer, lace chemises....

I would characterize SMS as work wear with a sense of humor, that slides into boudoir wear as it evolves. There is something playful about this scent, and yet it evokes a certain presence, a sense of authority, in the opening and heart. It's an interesting combination, and one worth experiencing. The dry down is more reminiscent of an evening scent to me. I would think that it would layer well, also.

I'd suggest applying this just before leaving work to go out for drinks. By the time you made it home the scent would be ready for bed.

SMS is built like a vintage floral, and doesn't follow the contemporary trends. I like it, and understand where the poor reviews are coming from- SMS uses a different frame than many are used to. This is the perfect contemporary floral for a vintage lover!

Sillage reduces greatly after the dry down is achieved... shame, that. In my opinion, if you like vintage florals (40s-60s) give this a shot. If you prefer contemporary florals, you probably will not enjoy this particular scent.

Today was my last to wear Sun Moon Stars. Though I used to really like it, it had changed on me as I owned it...the pineapple note amplified and mingling with the freesia and carnation to become quite sour on me. I never detected much vanilla, sadly. It has taken me a long time to finish it off, which is quite probably the problem, but I have learned a lesson or two from it..I can't wear pineapple. And I still don't love carnation. Though I still love that blue bottle.

derkargy

Much better than Eternity, but still induces me too many headaches. The bottle is nice, though.

chjena

This is the scent for Florence singing "the stars, the moon, they have all been blown out - you left me in the dark, no dawn, no day, I'm always in this twilight..." - lot of anxieties in cheerful, shining mixture, apparently.

Faverinsky

All I have to say is eww! This was my first perfume as a teenager and I loved it back then! I recently found it online for $50 (100ml) and decided to order it, as I remember it being appropriate for summer... I gave it away! Too powdery, too flowery in an antiquated/old lady way, and no silage or longevity (thank goodness).

CC3

I once followed a bartender through the crowd in a swanky London nightclub to find out what she was wearing. I recognised it (I'd had a bottle myself) but just couldn't place it.

Aaah - Sun Moon and Stars. So beautiful.

First and only perfume to ever have the Lynx Effect on me!

Peachysugarbuns

You are enjoying your solitude on a mild fall evening, laying on a plush grassy incline and looking up at the soft gradient sky. A delicate peachy pink color starts at the horizon, followed by a dusty mauve, then grayish-periwinkle and lastly, when you tilt your head all the way back, you're met with velvety dark blue sprinkled with twinkling stars. A procession of geese drift by; their black silhouettes are stark against the light part of the sky and their muted honking stirs the still air. Fireflies appear and blink in and out of the grass around you, mirroring the the stars in the deep night above. You snuggle into your light, soft sweater, revel in the tranquility, and smile. This is Sun Moon Stars...

I enjoyed a spritz from an original formulation of this today! The carnation in Sun Moon Stars' composition reminds me of Calvin Klein's Eternity, but in general, SMS is more pinapple-y and soft instead of citrusy and "sparkling" like Eternity. SMS is SO 90's and comforting. I'm a fan.

emi

Cherries, vanilla and metallic vibes.

kareembrightman

exactly the same scent that Diamonds and Rubies by Elizabeth Taylor

FireDragon76

My mother in-law has this fragrance from years ago. She needs very little of it and she doesn't regularly use fragrance. Our skin chemistries suit similar types of fragrances but if there's a "younger" version of her favorites, I usually go for that, not because I'm afraid of smelling like a little old lady because they often smell much better to me than most younger women; mom's age-younger, but because I just don't want to seem like I'm stealing all her signatures.;-)

I'd buy this one though, if I could find it today.

I just read FunkyTomo's comment which just stood out to me, and it's definitely the vintage version my MIL owns. I'm not sure I even want to try to smell or test the reformulation. I want to remmember it the way it was when I was 17-going on 18 and the way the one in my MIL's medicine cabinet smells.

Btw. carnation works better with me than I thought it would. That's a good thing since it's my Sun (and Moon) sign flower - for those of you into astrology. For those of you not; just ignore that bit and don't get your panties in a twist!;-)

MRowe

I found a nearly new bottle of SMS at a flea maker in the late 1990's. I loved the bottle and loved the scent even more and wore it constantly. My grandmother strongly disapproved of this one due to its musk and sandalwood notes- to her a musk fragrance was not appropriate somehow but this only made me love it more. I recently found a pure parfum mini on eBay and plan on buying more when I can find them.

Acesm

The bottle is so lovely, and Sun Moon Stars have a particular meaning for me. Unfortunately it is not suitable for me. I only smell a strong acidic floral scent. I love sweet scents and that is not what I smell. Initial spray was acidic, as was the dry down. .

MommyMaudlin

What can I say? I'm a sucker for a mystical, magical bottle. Inside the gorgeous glass though there's not much to this fragrance. It's pretty much carnation. So if you're totally in love with that note, go for it.

Frayja

I bought it in Milan ages ago (1996) and I keep it for sentimental reasons only.
Otherwise is a strong,mess-y,nauseating blend, who gives me a negative feeling on my skin.

Nikkafragrance

My mum likes it, but Sun Moon Stars smells really weird to my nose. Maybe too much carnation.

I see some of this for sale on fragrance.net right now ..noted a lot of comments saying its discontinued?

mabelcruet

I'm going to have to visit my mother more often-we were clearing out her cupboards and found a vintage, unopened bottle of this little number. Its so gorgeous-I'd forgotten what a lovely fragrance it is. Its a kind of transition from the big, brash scent bombs of the 80s to the lighter and more airy , but still robust fragrances of the 90s. I think it was before the gourmand revolution so although its sweet, its not toffee apple sugar sweet. Its described as a fruity floral, but its not like modern fruity florals-its more of a natural fruit with natural fruit sweetness tempered with a little tartness.

It's strong and upfront initially, and almost overpowering with a blast of jasmine and orange blossom, but this dries down very quickly to a much more subtle note. This is a lovely blend of vanilla, slightly sweet but smooth and rounded, with heliotrope coming through. The base is a warm, smooth classy musk and sandalwood and this lasts and lasts. Sillage is moderate, longevity is lllloooonnngggg.

I think this is a bit of a modern classic-it doesn't smell dated at all. I think its a warm and soothing fragrance, very much a winter or fall fragrance. Its mature-normally I would say that anyone could wear anything if they wanted to, but this definitely has slightly mature vibes-30s onwards maybe? Its definitely a feminine fragrance, not unisex.

Review for pre reformulation and current:

Pre: I just got a vintage bottle from my friend. Wow this brings back memories for me. I think considering this fragrance was made a few decades ago it continues to hold it's own and is still appealing. For me the fragrance is somewhat heavy. I tend to go for softer more subtle scents. I don't think I can pull this off however it's well composed - not too dated and quite wearable for the woman who enjoys being noticed. I will be parting with the bottle however as it just is not my thing.

Reformulated version: Wow now I understand when people say that the reformulation is a hot mess. While yes I would say it smells like the old sun moon stars this one is lacking depth and the warmth that the original had. This version is harsh, more carnation and I can definitely tell there has been a change to the formula. The reformulation certainly did not cut out the strength or lasting power though. It's pretty damn strong and heavy.

Wheaters

This is classy and subtle and I love it. Sweet but not overly so, and very very beautiful.

Eridanshay1

Sun Moon and Stars is exotic and unusual. It's not too heavy - which makes it ideal for wearing it to work or church, and it's certainly not too sickly sweet. I find this a very elegant and chic smell, and very very well balanced.
I had this but sold it and am wishing I had at least had the good sense to decant a vial.
It is just a pretty scent that I don't think is super popular or over used so could be a beautiful personal signature.

beatrix75

very very bad boring smell. specifically smelly and putrid carnation yeakkkk

austeja.kate

Got this as a present yesterday but now I'm a bit ill so cannot smell anything except carnation when i try to smell it from it's cap. Hope I'm going to like it and I will write my review soon ;)

artemiss

I have tons of this, and I'll admit, mostly because I was in love with the bottle, and people bought it for me as gifts. It never sat well on my skin, too floral and 'green', but it was better than most carnation-based scents I've encountered. Very much like other things by this perfumer, and while a different beast, is very much in the same vein as Eternity.

I'm breaking this down a little more since I apparently have vintage bottles in lost formulations. I think this suffered from overexposure and wasn't consistent even before the license was bought out by Coty.

The original in the frosted bottle from France was what I first smelled, and is a heavy-handed spicy carnation anchored in sandalwood and amber. This version is a touch more powdery and over all more complex than the other bottle I have which is the smooth glass release.
That version, Made in the USA, while being recognizable as the same fragrance, is sharper, screechier and less powdery. In the original I can pick out each of the floral notes, in this one, the peach and alcohol smother them.
Either way, I can't even smell this without being sucker-punched with memories, most of them not good, so I will likely be parting ways with these oldies soon. Someone should enjoy them, even if it's not me..

CHOYÈTTI

It is surprisingly classy. I would imagine a rich, young, sensual, glamorous and beautiful woman who lives in a huge mansion, wearing this when she goes shopping to the downtown boutiques.

For some reason I especially recommend this for a rainy day... Definitely not for a sunny summerday.
This is GOOD. I can imagine a nightsky-blue, rainy autumn evening... Just pure sensuality... I think I've been enchanted.

I originally bought this because of the bottle, but tried it on today and fell in love with it. Unfortunately it seems to have something that I'm allergic to... such a shame.

candyaddict

My very favorite perfume! To my nose, this is all freesia and vanilla. This is the only perfume that I can spray directly on my skin without it changing. In the dry down, it is complete heaven!

flamingjune5dwj

A bright burst of stars, light, sparkling, slightly sweet - these are the first things I thought upon first spray of this delightful find.

I usually never blind buy something without first checking reviews on here (usually I'm standing in Ross leaning on the perfume shelf while furiously scrolling on my phone) but for this I wasn't able to do that and liked the title of the perfume so much that I just went for it -- so I was shocked when I got home and read all the negative reviews of what I think is a little floral beauty.

I do agree with the other recent posters who say they were initially surprised - what I first expected was something rich, dark, and heavy - and that is definitely not what this is. It is a burst of stars, which after the initial incongruity wore off seemed actually very fitting for this. I don't think it is meant to represent the dark mysteries of the cosmos, but rather the bright luminosity that the sun, moon, and stars all share.

I see so many people calling this overly sweet, and it must be to them, but I want to give others considering this fragrance an opinion from someone who loves sweet and does not fear strong gourmands - this will probably seem understated to you!

It does have a soft sweetness, with a subtle and radiant warmth - but it is certainly not that in your face gourmand sweet of a typical perfume made today (think BCBG, Pink Sugar, Sud Pacifique or insert so many others here). I get way more florals from this than I do sweet, and the sweet I do seem to get is more of a nectar from a flower rather than sugar or sappy sweet. I think it is quite lovely.

As for the notes I get, I do agree with others that although there are so many notes in this it seems a bit hard to pick most of them out specifically. I think there is an initial blast of freesia and bergamot, but on me I have to say that I get no screaming peaches that others have commented on. As soon as that begins to fade, on me the lily-of-the-valley really is the most prominent thing I smell in this, with a light veil of florals, some vanilla, a hint of orange blossom, and sandalwood. Flog me for it, but the more it dries down the more I keep thinking of the old Diorissimo my mother bought back in the 90s. I will say that while this is not as heavy and dark as I anticipated from the look of the box and bottle, the lightness of the fragrance is still somehow rich in its own way, perhaps it is the bit of creaminess from the vanilla and amber.

As for lasting power - its a 10/10 big wow for what seems like such a bright floral - it has lasted on me for over 12 hours and I am one of those for whom nothing lasts. I would also say that the sillage is pretty good as well, but not overbearing.

All in all I personally don't understand all the hate this has seemed to generate here as of late, and thought I would add my two cents worth. If you see it at Ross for $16 like I did, I don't really see how you could go wrong. It's discontinued after all and will probably be collectable.

CHOYÈTTI

I heard this has been discontinued for years but I managed to get one still. Perhaps it becomes collectible.
Nice bottle. The smell reminds me of something... It's familiar.

lirael00

For me this is a vanilla pudding with a peach syrup on top of it. It is more something you want to eat than to wear on you. It's definetly more for staying inside and smelling yourself imagining you're a dessert than to wear this in public. I'm definetly gonna wear that in the upcoming days cause I think it's the perfect perfume you can wear while studying for exams. Nice.

samsara82

Dear readers,

I must agree with Ms Mortazuma below me, that this fragrance is very sweet and lacks complexity despite the notes that went into this but let me share my experience with this fragrance for those who are curious to buy the last bottles of Sun ,Moon and Stars , this is a rarity now since it has become a discontinued fragrance.

When I was given this as a gift when I was a tender teen of 15 by my sister, I enjoyed this perfume very much because it has a sense of sweetness and it wasn't too complex or anything but on me the scent was very vanilla all the way and a creamy one at that, it wasn't a cheap scent at all but it did lack that "something"

The bottle design is gorgeous , memorable, distinct even to this day , has a astrological look to it that looks very enchanting, like a magical object you see in a Walt Disney movie ,its very charming to the eyes .

Personally, I thought was going to have a almost ethereal character scent to it but I was very wrong it was very vanilla cream scent and on my chemistry it just became bolder and beautiful.

I liked it, but I wasn't in love with it as I was with other perfumes like Anais Anais, Blonde and my Chanels, but this scent I feel belongs to very nurturing type ,calm ,modest, comfortable and has dreamy or childlike nature to them, because it has that character scent to it you find in maternity and baby sections or in spa and relaxation items and food items as some reviewers mentioned , because it has a strong vanilla peach cream to it.

Personally I think its a perfect gift to give to a expected mother in a baby shower and/or for the baby because it does have that nursery feel to it or a sweet dreamy teenager isn't thinking of dates still because they still have that innocence to them where they don't care for earthly sensual escapades just yet or for a adult who's is very nurturing nature creates comfort and relaxation and wonderful memorable gentle words and embraces warms the heart and your soul .

Mortazuma

Even as a young woman, I found this fragrance to be a little too sweet. Some people enjoy smelling like desserts, and that is fine. But, unfortunately, I was raised and spoiled with perfumes that had more complexity and mystery than Sun, Moon & Stars.

Sun, Moon & Stars on me was...one dimensional, creamy sweet, and although appetizing...it wasn't all exciting. For the price tag, I certainly would hope to smell more sophisticated than peach cobbler.

Please do not get the wrong idea though, this IS a very lovely fragrance. However, fragrances should be extensions of your personality (and in some cases, your intention -wink-) and at the age that I was when this first launched, I was at an age where I wanted to devour the world, not invite it to devour ME.

HeidiLynn

This is a lovely 90's peach (think Tresor or Exclamation) but better--much better. It's still a vanillic, powdery peach; but it's also rich and lively. Somehow, this is both a warm and cool fragrance; cashmere sweaters on a chilly day. I usually do not care for carnation, and don't find it to be prominent here; rather, I primarily smell the peaches and vanilla, followed by the sandalwood and amber. Sillage is modest. I only have a decant but would love a full bottle--especially if it's that gorgeous blue and gold!

Hollie

For some reason I thought that this was going to be a dark, heavy, spicy oriental but it's not at all. I just found a box today at Ross for $16.....I've never seen it there before and it's been on my want list for a while so I had to pick it up. I can't give a completely accurate review right now because I only sprayed an hour or so ago and I'm still waiting for the drydown, etc. I did want to point out though that I IMMEDIATELY recognized this smell in several other scents in my collection. Ones that are not identical but very similar and with a similar "feel" So...first I thought of True Love by EA and then I thought of Diamonds & Rubies and then I thought of Volupte by Oscar de la Renta. Strangely enough when I noticed that Sophia Grojsman was The Nose, I also realized that she also created those other three that I mentioned! They were all created within a year or two of each other! She must have been on a roll! As far as how I feel about it after only just trying it, I think I like it? It's not what I expected but it's whimsical and juvenile....in a nice way. I keep smelling juicy, fruity, bubblegum along with carnation, a certain amount of random spice and I swear I get whiffs of banana once in awhile...hmmm. So....maybe I'll report back after I've had a longer experience...I can already tell that the longevity is good as well as the projection....at least on moi.

SucceeD87

Elegant, dreamy and mysterious. For those who like sweet vanilla fragrances like Aquolina Pink Sugar, Dior Hypnotic Poison, etc.

Scentmad

I snagged a bottle of this (vintage) and was reminded why I didn't buy it at the height of its popularity. It's just a ridiculous perfume. It lacks charm, sophistication and elegance. It is a headache inducing horror. It's uneasy, awkward and jarring. I cannot imagine why this was so popular, it really makes me feel quite sickly when I smell it, sufficed to say its been consigned to my "cupboard of perfumes that are not my friends".

Moonwalk Memorie

Skin tested.
I get carnations, vanilla-amber, and woods. Unfortunately turns vaguely urine-like on me.

Dinah12

LOVE IT! This is my all time favourite perfume since it came in early nineties. So mature and powerfull not overwhelming strong. But it lasts for hours and hours on my skin. Good mysterious and wondrous. True magical! Love it!

suemc

i have nothing good to say about this absolutely honking perfume....it is very unpleasant indeed. it smells artificial and nasty and worst still it clings to your skin for hours even after a shower.

freddinos

What an amazing perfume! It saddens me to see all the dislikes here... A fruity floral in all its glory from my favourite nose, Sophia Grojsman. I recently saw a video on youtube with an interview of Sophia. She describes her creations, and talks about creating a perfume for the woman who works every day and returns at home tired and still has to do the housework and cook dinner, but before she does any of all that she just puts on a little perfume, inhales deeply, relaxes, and feels like a woman! That's what Sun Moon Stars is all about. Whenever I wear it I feel like a woman...

zoehhh

First spray is a sweet, peachy, powdery carnation blast followed by a calming musky, jasmine, sandalwood and vanilla mix which is going to be a hit or miss. Personally with me it is a hit, but if you don't like a mysterious powdery/sweet/fruity/spicy cold day scent then this probably won't be for you.

It is best suited for night time, especially cold nights. It can also be pulled off on summer nights too for a night out stargazing or a night time beach stroll.

It lasts quite a while, I voted it as 'moderate' between 3-6hrs and it also has a moderate sillage. I wore it for a group meal once and only the person opposite me and next to me could smell it without the need to get closer to me.

There is something about this perfume that seems to invoke a happy, warm and fuzzy feeling. I find myself reaching for it especially on days where I may be feeling a little glum or unenthusiastic and it never fails to perk me back up again. Maybe it's because it makes me think of being snuggled up in an oversized jumper under the stars with a huge cup of hot chocolate!

The bottle is also very beautiful.

This is a review of the new formulation as I've never had a chance to smell the old one. I'd love to find it to compare!

mcredpers

The first time I smelled Sun Moon Stars was shortly after its release in 1994, at the tender and oh-so-awkward age of 14. I recall commenting during orchestra class that I was freezing, and like a dream the coolest senior girl who played bass like a rock star and who I aspired with every wish of my being to grow up into nonchalantly whipped off her sweatshirt and tossed it to me. I was giddy as I put it on and was instantly enveloped with the most spicy, warm, creamy and powdery scent I had ever smelled. Something about it was almost tangible, almost like a cocoon rather than an odor. It was delectable, confident, unapologetic, and vastly unlike the Vanilla Fields, Charlies, and Parfums de Coeur that otherwise permeated the hallways. After inquiring what this intoxicating fragrance was, I promptly secured a bottle and it became my aura.

Two downfalls of having Sun Moon Stars as a signature: 1. The original fragrance turned so quickly, so that a new bottle must be purchased ideally yearly but no less than every two years, and 2. The reformulation is just a mere shadow of the original. True, it is recognizable as Sun Moon Stars (and still one of my favorites upon drydown), but it is seriously lacking the depth and richness it once possessed. One plus of the reformulation is that it does not turn rancid as quickly, but I would still give anything for the original formulation to become readily available again.

Fortunately I was able to find an unopened bottle of the frosted glass pure perfume on Ebay, so if all goes well within the next few days I will be reunited with the magic I so fondly remember.

BettyNoir

I tried this back in the 90s and really liked it. I bought a bottle a few days ago and though it was horrible. It is so synthetic and metallic that its just really unpleasant. It smells cheap and a bit like petrol or cleaning fluid. The pineapple is shrill and fake and nasty, and the rest is just a peachy mess.

I have passed my bottle on. No way could I ever choose to wear this. Was it nicer before the reformulation? I guess it must have been.

no5forever2

This is the way Eternity should have been done. I pick the same floral notes as in Eternity, but whereas one gives me a blinding headache, the other caresses my senses and envelopes me in a soft, warm scent. I find it as gentle as Eternity was harsh. So gentle that I sometimes wear it for quiet evenings in.

I had tried very hard to like Eternity and this perfume indirectly gives me a feeling of 'mission accomplished'.

Aliakatt

Classified as an Oriental/Floral scent. All I can say about this one is "Do not want!!". It has this initial soap smell.. and not nice soap... it just makes me nauseous. Why won't it fade!?!

*Update: Okay.. after suffering through wearing this for about an hour, I will say that the soap smell has faded. The scent is much lighter, and much more mellow now. Oddly I almost get a caramel scent. This perfume also has great staying power. I still wouldn't buy it again though

Sarahlulu

Begins very fruity, with strong pineapple, which suits my me and my tropical surrounds ..

Dries down to jasmine musk vanilla sandalwood.

Makes me feel seductive and joyous.

Long lasting and glorious.

iloveloulou

wooow i love this perfume.. so classy and long lasting.. i also love the bottle.. i always put this perfume on before i go outside at nites , under the moon and stars.. ull feel better when its on !

benpaul12

When I was 5, back when this came out I met a beautiful woman who owned this, I saw the bottle and its design stayed in my memory until today when I discovered it on here! Now I know what that was!

shannonny

I'm one of those who love this. I own the EDT, likely the reformulation. Matter of fact, I loved it so much on first wear that I bought a back-up bottle: a first for me.

It is an odd scent. Does open with fruit, something sharp, definitely carnation and sandalwood on me, but then it mellows into real soft loveliness. The juxtaposition of odd notes--oriental and sweet-flowery, just work for me. (I did smell Eternity once, but I have a mental block with CK and his pederastic ads.)

That pineapple-carnation-sandalwood thing is just killer. Why do I love it so? It's just plain weird, but there you go...so am I. The drydown is intoxicating, musky masculine cuddles by the scent of a few sprigs of freesia. I love freesia.

Note on duration: I'm dry as a bone. Nothing lasts on me. So I have to drench myself in this stuff to get an hour out of it, but at this price, why not? As my son says, YOLO (You Only Live Once).

Thomasania

I just bought a back up bottle of the original formula. It is definitely a strong scent which I like a lot. A little goes a long way, so a light spray is all you need. It is a pretty floral to me. If you have a chance to pick up the original version I would go for it, plus it comes in a beautiful bottle.

The original bottle is matte whereas the newer bottles are shiny. My review is based on the original formulation in the matte bottle.

cmoca

I just realized this smell goes amazing with a leather jacket for a tougher yet feminine look. Waw :)

LavenderGirl

Bought this as a gift for my mum this week (it was on special offer). She politely said it was lovely. In reality, it was pungent and very similar to the chemical 'scent' of flyspray. Please save your money!

The perfect Astronomer's perfume!

The Sun, Moon and Stars:

The Sun: Warmth, brilliant yellow light and vibrant energy with the deepest of shadows.

The Moon: Silvery gentle reflected light creating soft nocturnal shadows, mystery, intrigue and romance.

The Stars: Tantalising, distant and exotic, casting the gentlest of multi-coloured twinkling light upon us in the deepest and darkest of nights.

The perfume: Warm and intriguing, filled with the sweetness of moonlight on a summer's night in Ibiza, the vibrancy of the mid-day meditteranean sunshine and the exotic sensuality of a shared swim in the sea under the midnight starlight.

When I first tried this perfume, I found her a little strange, but intriguing. She can be a little too warm to wear in the summer (if we get one) but is very warming and beatiful in the cooler times, when our Northern Night Skies are at their best to watch. I now love to wear the Sun Moon and Stars on cool winter nights when we have clear skies to go out and stargaze. The name helps with the mood and the fragrance reminds me of warmer times under the stars with an equal abundance of fun.

rfh

OK this might sound a bit odd..but i used to put from this perfume when i was at high school and it was perfect..however, have not used for a while and actually forgot about it completely..after almost 10 years, which was last year i was in London, i saw it at superdrugs pharmacy and bought the 30 ml for 10 pounds which i found very reasonable, but when i came home my sister begged me to take it so i gave it away..after that i kept looking for it in my home country and i finally found one 100 ml for 70$ with the very dark navy bottle not as the one we can see here in the pic or the one i bought from London!!! i bought it anyway and i was really depressed with the result since it smells really weird and like something rotten!! im really sad and wish i have not bought it..is it the time matter that screwed the smell coz im sure it not fake..or maybe the new formulation is much better!! Advice..buy it from superdrugs pharmacy ..

PNBP

i love this perfume because it smells like winter's air....which is hard to feel in such a tropical country im living in :D
it's a gift from my aunt :3 and i love it so much, the first note maybe too strong-like vanilla but the next notes are great,it's warm and fresh in my opinion ;3
i love how it fades to the last notes-which smells exactly like winter's air!! I use it whenever i go out at night cuz it gives me cozy feeling and elegant as well :D

sana_me

I don't really like it. It gives me a a headache! The bottle is pretty though.

Janey1966

Years and years ago I had a scent called Chloe and it was my first 'proper' perfume, and that is by Karl Lagerfeld too.

A friend of mine wore Sun Moon Stars as her signature scent. In fact, her husband would not let her wear anything else, which is a bit harsh but it did smell lovely on her.

So, when I got the opportunity to finally buy some myself (100ml for £10 on Cheap Smells) I could not resist. However, it does not smell half as potent on me as it did on my friend but I do use it sparingly. It is such a beautiful bottle that I want it to last even longer than the 3 years or so I have had it already!

I first wore this in my teens and if my memory serves me right it is an unusual and intriguing scent! On me the perfume has a slight synethitic quality (but I don't mind this) It's definitely an acquired taste there's no sitting on the fence with this one!

I found a vial of Sun Moon Stars at a thrift store and as it is eau de toilette,it may be the reformulation. I have been wearing it all afternoon and can still smell myself, which is rare for an EdT. To my nose it smells almost exactly like Elizabeth Taylors Diamonds and Rubies. I smell the carnation especially. The reformulation of this is easy to find and inexpensive, but if you're not overly attached to the stunning bottle, ETs Diamonds and Rubies is an EdP and is had far more inexpensively. Many times you can even find a gift set with a larger bottle and lotion for less money than Sun Moon Stars. Still, there is that bottle...

*** Not a proper review , but some tips on the vintage VS reformulated SMS****

I see comparisons to "Eternity" .If you dislike "Eternity " please do not let this put you off testing SMS. I had not tested Eternity since the 90s , so i tried it along with some other 80s/90s fumes . I didnt like Eternity at all! It seemed too floral ,I disliked it. . . .So i was surprised to see the comparison to SMS!!

Ive been a SMS lover since it was first released in the early 90s and i was bought a bottle at 16 yrs old.

Because i dont care for the reform ,i hunted down some vintage on good ol fleabay , an EDT 100ml in original formula . The perfume was very weak and just didnt smell right. I suspect the seller may have had the pretty btl on display in sunlight - not good! I kept it for the nice btl , but i cant wear the "off" scent.

I managed to get hold of a "Pure parfum" mini on ebay too. These are new/sealed/boxed old stock , and thankfully the sunlight hasnt had a chance to ruin them yet even though the btls are nearly 20 years old.

Now this verison is spot on and the wonderful sweet powdery smell take me back to my 9-s youth !! Anyone who has fond memories of the 90s SMS needs this verison! Its also very strong , been a "Parfum" , you only need a little dab , so the 7ml btl lasts a good while.

( you can tell the vintage minis from the reforms as they come in a MATTE/FROSTED glass - the modern glass is shiny. )

The moral here is be careful with vintage SMS , this is one of those perfumes that "Turns" fast if not stored properly ( the same happens with Clinque Happy - another of my 90s faves).

Id usually recommend "vintage" over reformed scent , but not in SMS case , unless its the vintage Pure Parfums. ....If you can wear the reform - great ! wish i could love it, but its just too synthetic and harsh , it has a strong unpleasant note of solvent/ spray paint/ nail varnish ( which many reviewers have also detected i see!) What person wants to smell like an industrial chemical , or a garage where they re-spray cars ? No thanks .........

Compared to the beautiful heady original its a very poor reform indeed and it is so poorly executed that i cannot wear it .

( Ive just realised what the "chemical" note reminds me of , that glue solvent you can get in a areosol can - eeek !!)

I remember smelling this for the first time in the mid nineties or so, thinking it smelt mysterious, cosy and modern at that time.
I never bought it for me even though it had that beautiful bottle too...
I just recently decided to treat me with this long sacred kept memory and found it from swap ! First sniff after a long time - Eternity light !
This will be perfect as I love Eternity but find it a little harsh sometimes...
The plastic rubber notes some has notified will probably be perfect for me as I like what I call nothing scents....
Not a typical flower, nor sweet or gourmand scent -
Just a little dry and very much of its own lovelyness !
I am so happy for this...thanks 700poodles who has let go of this beauty !
Update- No not really me after all...

Finally swapped.....

Buckshot

Reminds me of the sands, dunes and deserts of the Middle East and North Africa. Smells very much like the tribal scents of North West Africa. It packs a powerful puch; musky, spicy and sweet carefully blended together. I like it very much, but can't actually say that I love it. For its strength and potency I would say that it's very nicely priced.

A very "sharp" and woody perfume . I still think that it is very "watery" do , WHICH I actullay like . It reminds me of a old good friend , so I had to buy it .(Very cheap as well, which is good for the "wallet" haha) .

I like it and I think that this is Lagerfeld's best scent ever . Well done !

drugstore classics

Yes, this is both strong and sweet, pluses to me usually. Even the notes sound wonderful. In reality it's just a bit much of almost everything for me. Oh, and the opening is extremely dominant in "Freesia, the Enemy" ! If this is neither sweet nor overpowering for you, then I hope you have the good fortune not to be one of those for whom the freesia sours! It's actually such a cheerful and Blue/Yellow scent that it's a pity this charmer turns so awful on some of us. You really should try Sun Moon Stars at least once, because it's well - named and deservedly well - loved. Have Fun!

Trinidella

warm, floral, oriental scent. I love the flacon.

Rubber. AGAIN!
Why the HELL does 50% of all perfumes today smell like a new rubber ball/gasoline?! What IS that awful note?!

I can clearly smell cigarett smoke too. Not sweet tobacco, but stale smokers breath. Horrific. I get that note to very often, if someone knows what that is, please send me a pm.

It makes me sooo tired, yet another disgusting blind buy.

Please honey bees, if something smells bad, please please PLEASE tell us that in the review, so that others don`t have to waste their money too. Don`t be so afraid to criticise perfumes, they don`t have any feelings.

And when shall I EVER learn not to blind buy...

caca102

Scented baby powder... that's all I can smell. From others' review I was expecting something heavy and sweet, like Cabotine or poison. The first few seconds did have an overwhelming, play-dough like sweetness to it, then it dried down quickly to a gentle powdery scent that lasted and lasted. Not my cup of tea but it's not a bad choice for hot weather, you will smell like you've just come out of the shower all day.
