Heh. Y'know, I kind of love how "straight" this is. Not that it's basic, it's just very, very clear and intent on what it is – a roasted, haunted, unsweetened coffee smell. None of the more palatable accords listed above (vanilla, maple, tonka) show up on my skin, so nothing is pulling the coffee beans into a more gourmand-like place. It is just pure, pure bite. It reminds me of this sprawling used book store I used to go to in Montague, Massachusetts in the early 2000s. This is awesome. I'm surprised.

croquettegirl

this is my perfect coffee scent. smells like rich roasted beans, with resin notes floating beneath. the dry down takes on a very warm, spicy, biscuit-y scent on my skin. i can smell it on myself all day, not overpoweringly, but in gentle wafts when i move. It feels like the scent is embracing me, or like it’s a fuzzy blanket. Beautiful, seductive, dark, spicy, warm, & a little goes a long way.

SalivatingSoul-stice

Followed is much much better than this, but that's just my take. See my review for that one if you'd like. This is coffee for sure, but stale coffee.

murito_burito

i meant to buy Followed but got a sample of this somehow, but im lowk not disappointed. Im not sure if the notes listed above are fully accurate, however i do smell mainly coffee beans. Its pleasant, creamy and has a slight hint of chocolate to me, not sure if the chocolate is just me but its a nice warm scent. lasts about 5-6 hours and maybe 9-12 on clothes, ( depends how much you spray). silage is ok, you'd have to be almost touching shoulders to smell it off me. on the dry down the coffee is very dominant and smells alot less chocolatey/vanilla-ey. smells closer to just a mix of water and coffee however still not too bad.
still bound to get tons of compliments/ smell good.
6/10 just wish the drydown was better and not as boring, maybe a bit sweeter.
dont spray on white clothes please itll stain your shit

Charades

When I think of this fragrance, I think of walking into an old vintage coffee shop, and immediately catching the strong aroma of freshly brewed bitter black coffee, along with the sweet accords of the freshly baked warm pastries that just came out of the oven, doused in maple syrup. The perfume itself is very concentrated and strong, and the sample I have has a honey-like consistency.

TBonetheFella

Have you ever wanted to smell like you accidentally spilled your coffee on you before going somewhere, but don't want to actually spill hot coffee on your nice outfit? Well boy do I have the scent for you.

As soon as you spray this on you are hit in the face with the smell of dark, bitter, roasted coffee beans. Super realistic, and near intoxicating for anyone like myself that loves the smell of roasted coffee. Then as it begins to dry it starts to smooth and sweeten out, but never to the same degree that "Followed" by the same house does. Follow always contains a bit of the classic bitter black coffee smell to it, but it still has a fair amount of maple syrupy goodness.

Having given both this and Followed about 3-4 full wearing's each I will say I probably prefer this one more as it doesn't actively try to choke out myself, friends, and random strangers around me, and because of that this is the more versatile of the two as well. If you LOVE sweet coffee, like LOVE LOVE the smell of sweet coffee, and you want to tell the whole world that you love it, get Followed. If you aren't that guy, and you don't wanna nuke the room you apply in for months, get Follow. Buy what you like.

That being said I still get very good performance and projection from this fragrance. Easy 12 hour wear with a strong 6 foot bubble around me, people will smell you.

9.8/10. Signature Scent Worthy.

Kathie_KW

The opening is very astringent coffee, but it dries down to sweet spices with the coffee moving way to the background. Followed, on the other hand starts off sweeter but dries down into coffee. They are nearly the inverse of each other. While I like a coffee note I'm more into spices ambers which is more what follow is. Followed to me is the more gourmand coffee scent. I actually like Follow better than Followed but the opening always surprises me. I can understand people being turned off by the opening but the dry down is lovely. Long lasting

Dlittlegarden

Reminds me of See's candies Cafe Latte pops! Straight forward rich black coffee with nutty sweetness. Fun fragrance to wear, but beware if you're trying to cut back on baked goodies, this will make you want to eat them.

On my "like" scale of 1<5, this is a 3.

Dumbplings

The funny thing is if you look at the reviews for followed...nothing but good reviews. I compared them both side by side and they both smell the same...with very small differences.

Follow is the better smelling coffee out of them both, it's actually sweeter and smoother than followed. However the dry down you get like a cloves smell in follow

Followed is more bitter due to chocolate/cacao being in there

Overall they smell the same, only notable differences is mentioned above followed is more bitter with chocolate and follow has a clove type smell in the dry down

montee

Rich, complex coffee.

Very benzoin-y from the ambers, dirty from the tinged bitterness, dark from the deep coffee note. Though a hyper-realistic coffee, this is very well rounded. Absolutely gorgeous.

This sadly does not last all day on my skin, for me this radiates only for a few hours.

Totally unisex. I feel this would suit someone who is always wearing the color black or something antiquated and leather (suede), I sort of get a Gothic vibe from this.. On a side note this smells like a badass grandma.

If you love the smell of coffee, there is no reason you shouldn't get this.

EDIT: LOL WHY DOES MY SKIN SMELL LIKE SOY SAUCE THE NEXT DAY. Perhaps its just my skin, sighs I was so excited to buy a full bottle.

nichoa99

Yummy, rich, strong black coffee sweetened with maple syrup. Not sure if my sample is bad, but I am also picking up something cheesy that is not pleasant.

-Specs-

I’d say this is a very straightforward scent. Bitter black coffee with ever so slight sweetness from caramel and honey. But rest assured this is basically putting your nose into coffee beans. While not “bad” as I love coffee. Only have a sample but I’m not sure if this is full bottle worthy. I will say if you’re looking for a coffee scent… this is probably the best one I’ve ever smelled.

Azizialmajid

I haven’t sprayed it, but the smell has been already filling my bedroom. My nose is being followed.

JoyousOne

I love Followed but this is rancid, pungent and harsh.

sh83

This is a very realistic, very sweet, caramelly, coffee-like scent. Not something I'd want to smell like but if you're into that, you will love this. Not nearly as strong as Followed but still very potent.

dDrw

Absolutely fantastic. Smells like a cup of dark roast coffee on a cold day in December. Gourmand, bitter, and a master piece of a fragrance.

HMY

I agree with all below comments. Someone said it is like making Arabic coffee and smell is like from residue from coffee. It is very bitter and there is some “woody” note in dry down. It is quite beast mode. I tried 1,5ml sample and it lasted all day.
I still prefer much sweeter coffee such as Coffee Addict or Followed. This is too bitter for me. Definitely unisex. It is true coffee scent so you need to like gourmand to like this perfume.

margaritatee

I get soy sauce ... waiting for a captivating transformation in the drydown. So far -- admittedly 5 mins after spraying -- i agree with comments below, just too food-y.

imlikeheroin

I feel this smells like chocolate candy glazed in coffee syrup and filled with cherry liquor inside (a love child of Pocket Coffee and Mon Cherie sweets). An olfactive madlaine to childhood treats. I usually hate gourmands, but this is very cosy and wearable, fit for traditionalists when it comes to coffee lovers.

lillady

I wanted to love this, but it turned so bitter and almost acidic on my skin. I wore it as long as I could to see if it would mellow out after a few hours, but it didn't get better for me. I'll definitely be trying more from Kerosene though.

670268-me

Sampled it at a store the other month and this got me into gourmand perfumes. Finally got a sample and yep, this is gonna be a full bottle. First whiff is very in your face, beautiful cinnamon coffee cake, having a neighbor over for coffee kinda vibe that I instantly fell in love with. On paper this does eventually dry down into coffee grounds but I don't mind that since that only happens 15+ hours later. On my skin there is still beautiful sweetness to it, which progresses from said coffee cake, to instant 3-in-1 coffee (nostalgic), to beautiful cloves. The cinnamon vibe is very much there throughout though. Alas I don't think the projection is as good as I hoped based on longevity (longevity is excellent, all day on my dry skin), and the perfume is tinted so gotta be careful with spraying on clothes. My friend told me she can smell it on me after four sprays on skin so it's definitely noticeable to other people though especially after more sprays. I will try spraying it on my jacket and hair once I get my hands on a full bottle.

mariforeverr

welp. this definitely smells like coffee. makes me smell how I used to after a long shift at starbucks, which isn't bad but not really what I want out of a niche perfume. I can't detect any notes except coffee and maybe molasses and it stays that way. not sure when I would wear this bc it's too strong for the day but I don't really want to smell like coffee at night. however this has great projection and longevity and people definitely notice when I walk in the room.

I wanted to love this brand but I think it's just too food-y for me

Bordo

Was hoping for some gourmand coffee scent or at least that it would smell like freshly ground coffee... Instead got a very stale, old coffee, pretty much with no sweetness at all. Unfortunately this is is not for me, even though performance is good. But certainly not extreme, like Followed.

Rivera

This smells more like coffee candy than actual coffee, and it's a delicious sweet fragrance if you like that note. Good longevity, sillage, and I like it far more than Followed, which I get too much curry from, and becomes a little metallic on the dry down.

coughee

Smells like a small arts college cafe. Distinctly remember emptying out small batch vanilla flavored coffee grounds from my french press while friends smoked cloves on the balcony and this smell brought me back to that exact moment. I might be more obligated to like it since it reminds me of an amazing night, but this is my favorite from Pegg.

fistdeepinfrosting

I love this. its deep roasted coffee beans. super cozy and comforting but also a little sophisticated since its not really sweet. its on my fb wishlist

dcjimr

I love all the notes separately but this goes really weird on my skin after about 15 minutes. Almost like curry. Must be the clove others are talking about.

junimo

Didn’t hate this as much as its counterpart, but still hate it. Unbearably strong. Usually love that, but it’s too loud to even have a chance at enjoying it.

Hunt for the perfect coffee frag continues.

ShattiUnique

Testing this from sample.. opens up with fresh coffee turns in secs to old burned coffee, tobacco leaf or something like ashes with clove and hints of vanilla or milk hidden waaaay back.. i like it but i love Followed.. the curry coffee lol

Whateverwhocares

Uh, yeahhh I’ll have the roasted cafe mocha please. Venti. Whoa this stuff is roasted coffee surrounded by fresh coffee beans. The listed profile is spot on. Pretty, pretty, pretttttyyyt good. ☕️

Detman101

Just got my sample in earlier today.
Tested on paper and the back of my hand.
Got ashes, cloves, and light unsweetened coffee on both...bleh.
Not what I was expecting...this definitely isn't making the cut.
May have to give it a second try, though I can't see doing a full wear of this.
No way I'd ever want to smell like this...and as powerful as these fragrances are, I couldn't shower it off.

Will try my "Followed" sample tomorrow morning.

Update:
Nope..."Followed" ain't it either. In fact, I don't think I need or want to smell like THIS kinda coffee. Someone further below said that this smelled like "Used/Spent Coffee Grinds" and after making a pot of coffee and clearing out the remains...they were spot-on!!!

Either way....I'll stick to my "Fragrance World - Eternal Coffee" as it's a much more creamy and sweet version of coffee. If I want dark coffee I've got "Dark Knight" where the darkness is sweet chocolate...lol.

Billford420

You brought home a freshly roasted bag of coffee and ground it, that’s this scent.
The top is roasted coffee, with an emphasis on the roast, I’d imagine it can be challenging to some noses. After about half an hour the burnt roasted notes chill out and the sweetness comes in and blends everything together nicely.
What your left with is your favorite cup of Joe in scent form.
I’d sample it first, because of the strong roasted notes in the beginning, but if you love coffee, this is a safe blind buy.

oldwaves

It smells like coffee beans.

feuermaiden

Absolutely delicious photo realistic roasted coffee scent. I have not found another brand that does coffee gourmands (or gourmands in general for that matter) better than Kerosene.

It's like you're brewing yourself an espresso and you added a hefty dose of vanilla syrup and steamed milk. You take it to the living room couch, grab a blanket, and sip it while the snow falls outside.

In comparison, Followed is just a little bit more sugary sweet - more like a caramel frappucino. Follow is more straight coffee with vanilla syrup and milk. Both are so beautiful and delightful to smell on yourself all day.

As always with Kerosene, sillage and longevity are nuclear - spray very carefully! I sprayed Followed on myself while in my car two weeks ago and it still lingers in there. Not that I'm complaining.

10/10

fragrancegorlie

Follow is nice, but I prefer Akro’s Awake. Follow is sweeter and richer, like a fudge swirl in a coffee, whereas Awake is more of a bitter and refreshing (in a spicy way) coffee. Still a beautiful fragrance if looking for a deep and sweet true coffee fragrance.

happy-knight

Starting to think my skin just does not like any attempt at coffee gourmand scents, this just took all of the warm sweet spice-related notes and made me smell more like carrot cake than anything. I genuinely do not understand, on the sample exclusively before applying it, it smelled like it'd be promising too, shame. I wouldn't use my review as a way to sway you away from trying this, though. I preferred Black Phantom from Killian on my skin despite that also missed the mark for me- mainly because this smells even less like coffee than that did on me.

MrDanes

The opening is overwhelmingly coffee. Vanilla and cream start wafting off on the dry down - about 30-40 mins later.

MrDanes

You spilled black coffee on yourself. That's the fragrance. No sugar, no cream

Nataliemarie

This is pretty good. I ordered a sample of this & Followed. I purchased a FB of Followed, not this. This is a Coffee Gourmand for sure, but Followed is a COFFEEE GOURMAND, with maple chocolate. I had to have. This is nice tho. I, too, get the coffee, milk, clove vibe.

cwavah

This is purely roasted coffee ...... So a very good roasted coffee scent .. Not unique to me since i have tried very many coffee offerings ... But its well done and beautiful

Can I smell this?

Initial spray, this smelled like I just opened a bag of freshly ground coffee beans. Later on, I got a little milk with my coffee.

Upon dry down this reminded me of those old Nestle international coffees. It is so reminiscent of the cafe Vienna flavor. (Coffee, milk, cinnamon/clove) . The spice notes became stronger as time went on, but not much else changes.

Very realistic coffee fragrance. It is really a nice gourmand.

ShaunMichael

I can confirm. This smells like coffee and a new pack of clove
Cigarettes.

angelicforce777

didn't get any vanilla from this?? just straight coffee beans and wood. very dark scent.

Open-minded Nose

At first I got the smell of walking into a coffee shop and the raw, freshly ground coffee but then it dried out into something so familiar 🤔 just couldn't put my finger on it.

The review below by @banjerine hit it right on the nose...CLOVE CIGARETTES!

I used to enjoy Djarum cigarettes outside a local coffee shop with a good book or game of chess and this scent took me right back to those big comfortable chairs, cold rainy days, and leather-bound books. The nostalgia alone makes this scent worth it.

That said it's done so well. I love a scent that's not afraid to take a risk to take you on a journey. This does just that. For me, it's a 10/10

sniffmonster

When I wear this, it makes me smell like I face-planted into a coffee rum cake. The sugary smell mixed with the alcohol makes it smell like a strong coffee liqueur or a rum. Definitely not a safe blind-buy, but if you're into sweet coffee smells, this will be right up your alley.

hytension

This smells commpleeeteellyy different on your skin than it does in the bottle.

It smelt better on my skin than it did in the bottle. Just enough coffee and amber to make this a worthwhile scent.

The vanilla comes through but is not overwhelming.

Beautiful scent.

9.5/10.

JustFluxz

I mostly smell coffee and a bit of maple sap, but I am smelling something quite metallic and offputting. I wish I could be smelling what other people are smelling but I guess this is one of those rare times that probably the skin chemistry ruins a gourmand for me...

smellworthy

I work at a coffee shop. This is the most realistic coffee scent I have ever smelled in a perfume. It smells just like ground espresso beans. Its almost a little too realistic to my liking, it has a burnt dirtiness to it on my skin, like over-roasted beans. Probably just reminds me too much of work tbh. But if you're looking to smell exactly like coffee, this is the way to go. Barista approved.

Ihaggins

This and followed have become two of my favorites scents. So unique, so deep, long lasting, and will cast a heavy memory trigger on yourself and anyone around you. Many will love it, some won’t, and that’s perfect. Anything that’s for everybody is probably for nobody because it doesn’t stand out and neither will you.

If you like standing out (in a good way) and love a good gourmand that completely unisex, get this one or Followed. Both are an amazing feat in perfumery. So glad I was introduced to this fragrance house. I’m thinking about trying some of his other creations. Because Follow and Followed both have me mesmerized.

tally2ball

You want a coffee scent? THIS is a coffee scent. It's so photorealistic of walking into a coffee house, (in October you know, b/c the spices definitely come through in this one), that my brain instantly started buzzing in anticipation of caffeine. It was wild!

TabledThoughts

Personally, highly disappointed.
To my nose this doesn't smell of delicious coffee house brew so much as burnt campfire brew.
At first sniff it smelled oud-y.
Even at drydown, despite the 'coffee' scent, it's neither gourmand nor pleasing.

Alas, my search continues for the perfect cup ''o joe frag.

twoski

I have a decant of Followed, and I find that one to be too gourmand leaning. Smells like sugary pastries with a side of coffee. Follow is a lot heavier on the coffee aspect. It's missing that slightly sour, terpy edge that you get when you smell a bag of fresh roasted coffee beans, probably because it's blended with amber and some other vanilla-type of material. What i get here is a really well roasted coffee bean smell, no sharpness at all. Just a dark, ever so slightly sweetened coffee with a bit of maple syrup. Pretty performant, although Followed is even more crazy performance-wise.

I still wish this one was slightly less sweet, but oh well.

DearAlexabell

In my top 3 favorite fragrances at the moment! This is one of the few scents I truly believe is a unisex scent, I feel like most perfumes lean one way or another a little bit but this one is true neutral to me. It smells like coffee beans or coffee grounds, more on the slightly bitter side which I love! I wanted a more true coffee scent without all the fluff, marshmallow, sweetness, milk, and cream. Definitely on the darker and bitter side, which I adore. Spillage and longevity is decent. I'd recommend this.

Silverquick

I was generously given a free sample of this. Sadly as I kind of expected, it didn’t work for me. My skin eats sweetness and amps up some notes. Coffee being one of them. On me it was slightly bitter over roasted coffee grounds, with a touch of background toffee and a strong hit of metallicness - like the taste of something sweet in a can where you can taste the “tin”…. Sigh. Much different from the nozzle - skin chemistry once again. I’m convinced this would be a rich, dense, gourmand experience on the right person.

kerolos

The best realistic coffee fragrance i own. Dark bitter with a touch of sweet smokiness and so freaking beautiful.

Performance on me is out of this world, I spray it on my clothes and it remains there for the next two washing cycles and my whole apartment smells like coffee for hours.

Well worth it if u r a coffee lover.

25-DEC-2022

banjerine

A freshly-pulled, foamy shot of burnt espresso that dominates for ten beautiful minutes before dissipating into a sweet, dry, unsmoked black clove cigarette. Very film noir—shadows, secrets, and a femme fatale with legs for days.

As much of a sensory delight as this scent is at first, the persistence of the linear spiced-tobacco drydown long into the evening made me feel a little queasy.

Autumn_Moon

This was, sadly, a rare miss from the house of Kerosene for me. I detected a strong coffee note upon first spray (which I expected and was looking forward to), but... I also caught a whiff of something which I register as "ammonaic" (which has *never* happened with a Kerosene fragrance before). I'm guessing that it must be one of the aromachemicals meant to represent "amber," as that's listed in the fragrance notes, but I don't know which one it could be, specifically.

However, not all is lost; if you experienced the same thing, I am happy to report that the sequel to this perfume, "Followed," did *not* have that off-putting note -- in fact, it smelled like an amazing coffee drink to me (see review). So, if you didn't like Follow for the same reason, but you want a coffee-forward fragrance, I encourage you to give Followed a chance.

klioux

On paper this was rich, robust, freshly roasted and ground coffee beans. On my skin, it's four minutes later and someone has scorched the coffee and is giving it to me in a sad paper cup. I wish the richness lasted on my skin - I don't want to smell like burnt coffee.

However, this, like other gourmands I've tried from Kerosene, is a beast. My whole bag of sample fragrances smelled like a mix of this and Sweetly Known.

dear,prudence

Burnt coffee, shisha smoke, and maple syrup.
This is almost identical to BPAL Café Mille et une Nuits, just with an added maple note.

hellborn_animal

Excited for a coffee gourmand, I ordered a decant of this to try.
Incredible in the air-delectable hazelnut macchiato.
On the skin,a different story. Within 10 mins the delightful bitterness of the coffee grounds overpowers any other note, and the bitterness became so acrid I had to scrub it from my wrist.

So sad

QueenieIrenie

This is straight up roasted coffee beans. I pick up on little else. It smells like a coffee shop. It's actually impressive how photorealistic this is. Personally, I'm not sure if I want to just smell like I slathered on a coffee scrub, but for those who want a straightforward coffee scent, look no further. It is a great scent to wake you up. I will still enjoy my sample, and will maybe try layering it with vanilla-heavy fragrances, but I don't think I'll get a full bottle. Performance is great though.

Edit: It's great as a base to layer with other fragrances. I layered it under Hundred Silent Ways and it is what I expected Black Opium to smell like. It's kind of amazing.
I also layered it under Un Bois Vanille and it smells like if you pour vanilla powder and honey with black drip coffee.
Although I think this is too expensive to use as solely as a base, it would smell amazing with Roses Vanille and anything else that shares this scent profile.

IntoTheSniffOfIt

Cigar Tobacco with the tiniest hint of expresso mixed coffee grounds.. That's it.

Absolutely not what I was expecting. If you're buying this for the coffee scent do a 180 and just buy Coffee Addict.

buster21

I’ve sampled Follow and Followed and they aren’t for me. I find them too serious and a little harsh. Everyone likes their cup of Joe served up to their liking and my coffee choice is Coffee Addict.

OctopusMessiah

bruh this smells like a cat pissed in some ground coffee. Only plus side on having a vial of this is that I can weaponize it against my enemies. 10/10.

Neckromancer

Yes! I agree with the review below me, it smells like coffee hard candies. This is awesome! It's not very long lasting on me though.

Elysiom

Oh snap, this is grand. I can specifically identify this smell- it is coffee hard candies. And it's an amazing fragrance because the drydown yields a little spicy amber, so you wouldn't worry it was an unintentional coffee smell wafting from you. The spiciness is also almost reminiscent of dark chocolate in that way- this is so well done, I'm loving Kerosene.

orpheusdream

Trying this for the first time last autumn, and I remember being somewhat appalled. I didn't get it at all. I would argue that Kerosene is an acquired taste.

One year later, after having developed an addiction for parfume – I find it really intriguing. It's really not a favourite, but it is perhaps one of the most interesting scents I own. Not an easy or mainstream scent by any means. Not for everyone. The reviews below are very accurate. Ground, black coffe. A dark scent, with a faint hint of sweetness, but mostly very dark and bitter. It's quite cosy, but Kerosene is never 'pleasing'. There's always this quality of being 'off', and that's exactly what also makes Kerosene so incredibly interesting.

dmbfaninmass

Hands down best coffee fragrance I’ve had my nose on. I’d intended to check this and a few other Kerosene selections out after someone on here brought John Pegg’s indie house to my attention and I’m kicking myself that I’d waited this long and that I’d spent on some other coffee fragrances. This is absolutely magnificent and the most photorealistic coffee scent I’ve smelled outside of grinding up some dark roast beans and brewing a pot every morning.

zaneexplain

Opens with a very strong coffee bean scent. Literally smells just like a cup of Joe. It does quickly settle into a musky, powdery, tobacco scent. Definitely gets warmer and 'sweeter', but not sweet like a latte or creamer. The top review here says it pretty well: "It's like enjoying a cup of black coffee and a cigarette on a patio of a cafe."

Dantheman41

It's like enjoying a cup of black coffee and a cigarette on a patio of a Cafe. Don't see many talking about a cigarette (not lit, like a cigarette freshly pulled out of Its container) but I get a little of that. Their is a little sweetness but I mostly get ground coffee. This imo is a relaxing and comfort fragrance.

Benjamin From Sacramento

Spent coffe beans covered in honey and caramel. Bitter and burned. Fantastic

Luluteeter

I’ve tried a lot of coffee scents. This, black phantom, intoxicated, coffee addict, over the chocolate shop, noir exquise…

This tops them all, at least in terms of coffee notes. It’s like sitting in a coffee shop and you’re getting all the smells. The grounds, the brewed coffee, the flavorings. It’s warm and cozy and so addictive.

Brighteststitcher

I got a sample of this from ministry of scent and I believe I'll be following up with a full bottle purchase. I absolutely adore this, got it on a whim based on the notes in my set of samples. The scent is not something I usually go for, but it is true coffee with a sweet/spicy vibe. It almost smells like a dirty chai but one that is not too sweet. It does smell quite sweet to me, but not as sweet as "sweet" usually goes, and I tend to lean towards drier scents. I do also have intense cafe, I don't find them too similar although they are somewhat similar, and I absolutely prefer this one. I get no powder or amber, but I believe this to be a safe blind buy, esp if you like coffee! More of a fall/winter scent (absolutely should and will wear while doing the annual gilmore girls marathon) although I'll be wearing this cozy scent year-round.

Jenbug23

I love this scent! I was looking for a pretty true coffee fragrance. This is the most realistic coffee scent. I feel like I’m in a café taking in the smell of roasted beans. That’s pretty much it. Dark roasted coffee, no sugar, no milk. Which is funny given the other notes but I don’t get them at all. So glad I found this.

Airborne Armadillo

For me this is very reminiscent of the flavored coffee aisle of the supermarket- coffee with a melange of dense sweet artificial flavors of varying "nuttiness" and vanilla. I know that scent makes many swoon, and if you're in that camp go grab a sample of this- you may just love it! I take my coffee with cream, no sugar- and I cannot stand the flavored syrups- so this one is not for me.

VinceChi1178

When I sprayed Follow on a test strip, I could not believe how strongly the initial burst of coffee is. I am someone who adores the smell of coffee, but this was just too much.

However, I did decide to spray it on. And I must admit it works much better on my skin than on paper. Yes, this is a dark, strong, black cup of coffee fragrance. If you were able to drink this coffee it would be bitter, bordering on burnt. It would keep you up for days. No amount of cream would sufficiently cut through it's inkiness. This cup of coffee is not for the weak.

And yet, as the opening fades, hints of amber and vanilla and tonka join the coffee. Maple sap adds a bit of stickiness to the overall impression of the fragrance. That coffee scent never falls to the background, but the other notes harmonize with it to make Follow quite cozy and delicious. It definitely had me craving an extra cup of coffee.

So, yes, it works better on skin than on paper. But for me, it's all still a bit too much. I don't ever want to walk around smelling this literally of coffee. It's what I imagine a barista smells like after a particularly long shift. Which is not to say it's a bad scent. It's just not a scent I find appealing as a perfume. Now, if there were a candle version...

GreatGreyOwl

I can imagine that mildly roasted coffee beans stored in a moist, slightly moldy cellar would smell like this. I asked an opinion on this, and got a comment that it smells like raw gingerbread cookie dough. And you know what, it really does. A (Scandinavian style spiced) gingerbread cookie dough mixed with a little coffee.

emilyjxne

I’m interested in coffee in fragrance but with the exception of Intense Cafe have yet to experience many coffee scents I like, the coffee note tends to come with a burning plastic/fibreglass sort of element that comes across synthetic & not very nice.

For the first 10 seconds Follow comes across as photorealistic coffee but then develops into the aforementioned. It’s bitter & dry & despite the maple sap, tonka & vanilla, it’s not as sweet as I would like. Its still quite cosy & I can appreciate it as a fragrance but Follow is not for me.

TannievanE

I so wanted to like it, but unfortunately it made me nauseous… maybe I overdprayed so I will give it another go at some point.

amatuerfraghead

The most realistic coffee scent i have ever try, and i dont think there can be any more realistic coffee fragrance that can trump this one. It smells exactly like you are in a cafe, standing behind the bar waiting for your morning coffee. Its a dark roasted coffee scent with a slight hint of vanilla. While its a nice realistic scent, i dont really see when i would want to smell like this. Better suited for a candle or room product, but well made nevertheless, especially considering that price it comes in.

Follow isn't so much a coffee scent as it is a café or coffeehouse scent. It's the cozy local café, in a smaller rainy town in the pacific northwest. It's not a hip urban café, it's not a chain, it's the one with baked goods from the nearby shop at the counter. Yes, they do single origin pour overs but they also have some vanilla flavoured coffee beans roasted to oblivion, sitting in their dark oily containers as well. It's a scent that sits somewhere between the grind-your-own coffee stand at the everyday supermarket and the coffeehouse. It's not pretentious, it's OK with the fact that you want a hazelnut latte, that doesn't mean you don't appreciate good coffee, it means you love everything about the way a café brings the community together, becomes a quick stop for tourists, a home away from home for the alterna-teens. Follow is a time machine to the mid-1990s, and it smells amazing.

mackerror

Not overly sweet but rightly balanced roasted high quality coffee smell, pretty persistent in the first phase, after 5-6 hours transforms into something like 'coffee amber' with creamy benzoin and tonka.
The maple syrup gives an interesting twist to the scent, love it. Actually it smells like the coffee I love to drink; Dense, dry, thick and just sweetened lightly.
I adore the name ''Follow'' - well I do follow coffee smell especially in the morning, it's intoxicating and draws your attention immediately. The best coffee+ I've encountered yet.

xxxMHOxxx

I really wanted a coffee scent and was looking forward to it, this would have been perfect but it has POOR sillage and becomes a skin scent after the first 45 minutes. I personally think it was reformulated or something because I smelt it on someone once and it blasted me, in a good way. The top note after is straight-up bitter coffee but the dry down is amazing. The only problem is terrible projection.

I was looking for a new coffee scent this fall/winter and ran across this one. Ordered a sample and after my first wearing it’s the most realistic and IMO the best coffee scent I have smelled to date. It’s not sweet for me but it’s a little milky and smooth. It is very dense and like strong freshly brewed coffee grounds. It’s also a beast with 1-2 sprays being plenty but anymore I think would be overwhelming. An excellent overall scent if you want just coffee

firmresolve

This kicks off with pure, unbridled, black coffee. Around 30min-1hr later it turns more into a cup of coffee with a vanilla creamer added. Brings back thoughts of a cold morning in November. I've always loved the smell of coffee, so this was an easy blind buy. John knocked it out of the park. Projects within an arms reach for the first 2-3 hours and sits a little closer to the body for another 4-5hrs. Not heavy or anything either this is easily worn. I live in a warm humid climate and will update how it works for that, but, if you love how it smells when you walk in a cafe/coffee shop, or when you grind beans and brew your own coffee in the morning, this is a must have now that it's starting to cool down.

kokonose

Intense coffee extract, a hint of alcohol and/or gasoline. Fades down to a warm vanilla roast.

DiscoPolga

Ahhh...no one can do gourmands like Kerosene. The opening reminds me of a pressure coffee maker - it smells like freshly used coffee grinds. It's so realistic, wow. And then minutes later sweetness comes in, making the smell warm and comforting - like a cosy coffee place on a cold rainy day.

AlaskanAngel

This scent makes me think of my father. It's strong, a bit rough around the edges at first, sometimes bitter although there is sweetness hidden in the background. It's dark and deeper than you'd guess, with an unexpected playful side, and always, always authentic.

FOLLOW is a stunning composition that tells a complex, not always happy, story in a beautifully elegant and honest way. Sweetness with an edge speaks to my soul and this scent rings true to my core.

UPDATE
I started wearing this everyday. Out of my large collection it calls to me (and I realized I can get away with wearing it at work). While at the hospital or fire department, fellow coffee lovers appreciate the scent and those rare few that don't drink coffee just seem to not notice. On me it wears as darkly sweet with just enough burnt strength to keep from being too rich, a balanced fragrance that stays smooth throughout. I'm quite pleased to have found a gourmand that is unusual yet comforting and perfectly at home in my profession. I have bought multiple full bottles and samples to share with those I love.

oilizer

Initial impression: It is a generally linear scent with subtle changes in nuance throughout its life. On the skin, it starts off as a blast of freshly ground dark coffee followed by a sweet slightly creamy coffee candy scent (Scotch Candy that can be commonly found in homes of Korean grandparents) with freshly (?) burnt cigarette ash. the sharpness of the burnt ash dies down in a few minutes and you are left with close-to-0skin dark coffee grounds with hints of sweetness and creaminess.

The coffee in the scent is very authentic. It's a unique and pleasant scent that many people can enjoy but not particularly what I would enjoy wearing.

parispeach

The most realistic coffee scent you will find. It’s very dark, roasted and bitter. Akin to the smell of burnt toast inside of a coffee shop. The smell is a syrupy, overly extracted ground coffee combined with boozy liquor. I would actually like the liquor smell to stick around more.

It does soften as time goes on, and gets slightly sweeter, but this isn’t a sweet creamy coffee experience. I was expecting more Vanilla but there is none here.

On its own it’s very bitter and avant garde. I layer this with something floral, or creamy to offset the bitterness. This layered with a creamy, coffee like fragrance really boosts the coffee note.

The projection, silage and longevity are just average on my skin. It’s really intense initially then starts to quickly subside, becoming closer to the skin.

Still on the hunt for my ultimate coffee fragrance.

Frimel frags

Follow is by far my favorite coffee fragrance of all time. It is perfect in every way. I get pretty good performance on this (8+ hours with decent projection) and the smell is unlike any other coffee fragrance I've ever smelled. I smelled this fragrance very early on in my niche adventure. So at the time I didn't understand fragrance notes very much. I loved the opening with the coffee, but the dry down was reminiscent of burnt rubber (probably from a combination of the resins and saps). However as I've gotten more experienced with fragrance notes, this smell went away and instead made the dry down a beautiful, sweet, resinous coffee dream. I would always recommend buying a sample of every niche fragrance (especially if you aren't very experienced) but this is something I would recommend to anyone looking for a coffee fragrance. The coffee, the resins, the tonka bean. It's just perfect. 10/10

DJoy27

Yes-definitely dark black roasted coffee at the beginning. Then I get smoky woods with a touch of sweet vanilla-must be the tonka. I love this-I would totally wear it but I told my husband I want him to wear it in the winter (oh I’ll probably end up wearing it with him..yay!) It smells sexy and cozy to me. Yum! Can’t stop smelling my arm…

iszzieanna

I was expecting a sweeter coffee scent. However, this comes off as something burning with coffee in the background. I actually do not mind the scent. However, I would not buy a full bottle of this

Edit: coming back to this fragrance, the opening is very bold dark roast coffee. As many said, it’s bitter. However it fades into what black phantom should have been. I start smelling roasted chocolate, cinnamon and cooked tiramisu. In the dry down, the coffee turns into old coffee or a lingering coffee scent

h10011z

The coffee is so strong and bitter in this! The opening smells like fresh ground coffee beans and brewing black coffee. I also get a slight burnt note—sort of like burning coffee at the hot base of one of those electric coffee makers. It softens up after 30 min and I get more sweetness, but the coffee remains pretty bitter and dark. A veryyy realistic perfume, definitely reminiscent of a coffee shop. It smells good, but I’m not sure if it’s something I want to smell like.

Alinah

Black roasted bitter coffee beans. That is brutal smell of burnt notebook of Master ( from Master & Margarita Novell by M.Bulgakov). With the add of cognac. No milk, no sugar.
Also it could be a coffee with saucer of nuts from the book of Ethel Lilian Voynich “Gadfly” that Arthur had while sitting on the porch with his disturbing thoughts . And Music of Shostakovich is following.

CheesyGarlicBread

Not something I would wear. Kinda reminded me of a Yankee Candle type smell. Lots of coffee with many pumps of sweetener. I smell baked goods, coconut, and something waxy.

i2uby

This is it. I found my perfect coffee fragrance! It opens with a blast of strong black coffee, I detect dark chocolate, rum and cardamom spices a few minutes later and then a lovely mixture of vanilla and maple syrup in the dry down. The coffee changes from an espresso to a boozy mocha and then into a sweetened maple syrup & vanilla latte. I love how this keeps changing on my skin but wished the coffee note held on a little longer. This has great projection and decent longevity. I would wear this any time of the day, even to bed. It’s so comforting and definitely full bottle worthy.

perfumenoob

Coffee vanilla coca cola

JJrmlwcz

Freshly poured Kahlua. When the alcohol evaporates, I smell ground coffee, sweetened, with some spice.
Follow smells like a dark chocolate praline with rum and cardamom filling.
There is a slight bitterness close to the skin, almost like cigarette buds, but it is not unpleasant.
This fragrance is what I expected Cardamom Coffee by Lush to smell like, however, CC by Lush was a pure cardamom scent, which I despise.

The balance of spice, coffee and sweetness in Follow is perfect. It's definitely a heavier fragrance, which I would wear in the autumn and winter time. The balance of masculinity and femininity is also admirable.

Powerful gourmand perfume, much stronger than all the other Kerosene perfumes I have tried so far.

NDStars

First blast of fresh strong coffee that's had a couple pumps of vanilla and caramel splashed into it. Dark roasted to the point of burnt but then softens a bit by caramel notes. Somehow the coffee is realistic but the vanilla/caramel notes are not; they smell artificial and Torani syrupy, almost like plastic. Sigh.. had such high hopes for this one but the whole scent comes off as almost burnt and chemical. Just like a real cup of black coffee, I think a lactonic note would have taken the edge off those sharp corners and made this more wearable. Moderate projection; unisex and best for autumn/winter weather.

6+ hours: I've discovered that all this needs is about an hour drydown. The over roasted fake syrup notes totally disappear and what's left is a rich gourmand coffee that's black as night and sweet as a kiss.

Remmel

In the beginning, there is very strong, bitter coffee, but it gradually sweetens up until there are hints of vanilla, caramel, and maple syrup. The gourmand Follow turns into is too sweet for my taste though, if only the coffee would carry through. It's a fall daytime scent, I would imagine this on a woman walking around a city on an overcast day. It lasts the longest out of the three and can be smelled all the way across the room.

Grefvinnan

This is the best gourmand ever if you’re into coffee and sweet baked goods. It smells like coffee cake icing.

GiannisP

A great coffee scent!! Coffee, maple sirup, vanilla/tonka. It's like a breakfast with coffee and pancakes! It reminds me of Noir Exquis but they are different enough (i prefer noir exquis).

Performance is great and it's versatile for the cold weather. Sexy, alluring, a bit dark but sweet at the same time! If you like coffee scents, you should try this!

Hellenic Perfumology

Picture this!

You enter a turkish Coffee shop in Instanbul City! The turkish coffee hits your head like a huge slap out of nowhere! Nearby there is a shop making breakfast and someone is preparing pancakes with maple syrup and butter on top. The coffee is still the prominent smell, but you can smell the divine breakfast in the background.

This fragrance has character and is in my opinion the most well made Coffee fragrance in the market.

Realistic at least!

10/10! B L I N D B U Y W O R T H Y!

If you love coffee that is ;)

Claude dirte

This smells like someone tried to make kettle corn, and accidently burned it slightly. Then to make up for the fact that they burned it, they added more maple sugar to compensate. I'm thankful I only bought a decant, and praying that I can find something to layer it with. Projects well, good longevity, dries down into something less cloying. 4/10 until further notice

Update: I've changed my mind, this smells like walking into a gas station or fast food restaurant brewing coffee in the morning 2/10

Nooshin (Atghia)

In the Gourmand category of fragrances, 5-methyl furfural is one of the Furfural derivatives which is used in perfumery; it has a sweetish caramel odor of burnt sugar with coffee, pastries, spices, and maple syrup nuances. Here in "Follow" the pairing of coffee and maple syrup is the best way to portray how it actually smells. that’s why I get a dense spicy accord more than anything with this amazing couple.

poppyetpear

omg omg omg no no no I recieved a sample of this from House of Kerosene and wtf omg I've never smelled something so terrible in my life. Guys, I'm not exaggerating when I tell you this smells like someone threw up their Indian buffet lunch into the street! I felt so sick to my stomach, I put my sample straight in the garbage. The reviews are so great, so I'm like, did they send me a practice vial of something they're working on by mistake?? This can not be real.

Coffeeandroses

Smells like djarum black cigarettes.

julesbh

Oh my god. I picked up a couple samples from the house of Kerosene because I was intrigued by reviews I had seen online, and ever since I smelled a sample of this, I've literally thought about it every single day. In fact, while I was testing other samples I would sometimes catch myself thinking "this is fine, but I wish I was smelling Follow right now," so of course I had to pick up a full bottle. If you don't like coffee or gourmands, you're not going to want to get anywhere near this, but if you're into both of those scents, Follow is certainly worth checking out. The projection and longevity are both INSANE- if I spray this on a piece of clothing, I can still smell it quite strongly 24 hours later. This is a great example of a fragrance that's aggressively sweet without being youthful or annoying; it's rich, bold, and actually quite sexy. Definitely the best coffee scent I've ever personally smelled.

DrHeiter

I want to love this, as coffee is one of my favorite smells in this world. However the benzoin in this gives it a bit of sour/medicinal quality I just can't smell past. I will test this on my scarf and see how it plays out. No doubt this is another strong, unique creation from the house of Kerosene, and for a brief moment in the opening I caught the enticing aroma of a sweet vanilla coffee drink from a cozy city cafe, then it started to smell of dry oud/benzoin. Medicinal and animalic. Shoot, I really thought this would be the one. My search for the perfect coffee perfume goes on...

supersaiyan

Opening was gorgeous, such beautiful rich coffee, like a latte with very strongly brewed espresso. It was amazing, I felt deep regret not buying a FB during Black Friday. However, within 10 minutes it dried down into this strange burnt coffee/rubber, the coffee is still there but it has this plastic vibe. I definitely think it's the maple note. I don't know, I like it but it's not a love, pass for me.

butterbean

Follow starts off very coffee and sweet with a bit of tonka.

As it wears the vanilla benzoin and resinous notes with tonka are more noticeable.

The dry down has sort of dated quality, which reminds me a wee bit of my nan wearing Estee Lauder Youth-Dew.

Not bad. Test first.

I prefer coffee scents like - Awake by Akro, Cafe Vanille by CSP or Espresso Royale by Sebastiane (which do NOT smell like Kerosene Follow)

Bubbles1964

A very sweet, gourmand coffee fragrance. I won’t be able to add to the positive reviews describing the scent.

I like Follow, but I would have to be in the right mood—and more importantly—the right season. A cold Fall or Winter day only scent. I’m getting acceptable performance; an hour or so of a strong opening followed by a dry down that lasts a few hours. I read a complaint on another one of his perfumes that he was watering down his mix. If that’s true, they must’ve been nuclear before.

What I think is peculiar is the perfumer’s fascination with dessert scents; I have tried several and they seem to have a familial DNA, which at times is tooth achingly sweet. Even the patchouli dominant Fields of Rubus—which I really like and my first encounter with Kerosene—goes in a foodie direction with the addition of fruit and vanilla.

Subtle nuance is not John Pegg’s style, and I find that I need to want a slap, a punch and be a little drunk (figuratively speaking) in order to wear his compositions.

DR521

Gorgeous coffee and cream for the first hour then slowly deconstructs into a complex and prismatic warm sweet perfume that has notes of milk, vanilla, coffee, and sugar and maybe even whisky or rum.

I bought a full bottle from Indiescents and it smells cozy, comfortable and sophisticated, and hours later keeps going with nothing like the burnt coffee and vinegar notes or fleeting longevity I am reading about below. Perhaps those are from samples? I do recommend minimal application, for me one tiny spray on neck and chest is enough for a powerhouse personal effect.

gweyslabao

Fascinating to see that this is one of those scents with a lot of different observations. To me, this is a plain dark coffee sans milk and sugar. I am not a coffee person but I love that coffee shop smell and this scent is enough to keep me awake.

discardedandroid

A very natural coffee fragrance that performs quite well. An absolute must try for coffee lovers. Smells like a sweet, dark coffee cappuccino. The "coffee shop" comparisons are close. A very cozy, yummy smell. I want to drink this on a cold morning. Recommend.

Blacktundras

No. The initial spray was all perfectly, cultivated coffee beans, then a few seconds later the Burger King teenager burned it to a crisp. It's almost like the coffee morphed into burned tires! Someone earlier mentioned this would smell good if layered with D&G the only one. Well okay, I've got that fragrance, let's try it together. NO. That does NOT work for me. It's like trying to add cream to a burned cup of coffee. Follow just ends up eating up the sweetness of that fragrance and now I smell like strangely subdued burned coffee. Small mercies for samples, because this one's persona non-grada.

Selah

I like it - but don't love it. I have a decant for testing. First impression. You need to appreciate the smell of roasted coffee beans (without the milk/cream). I do. However, I don't want to predominantly smell like a delicious spiced coffee. I get a lot of cloves in it from the beginning....and it stays with me. Yes, the coffee does tame down later on....where the vanilla and maple sap notes join for the drydown. The sillage is great. Even detectable 24h later....Longevity is great. That is saying something because fragrances don't cling to my skin well. I think I would prefer a high-end candle to smell like this. I do enjoy it....but it's not what I am looking for... Great experience. What a talented perfumer!

Perfumeaddict777

To be honest , this smells totally different than I was expecting. At first spray it smells like a coffee pot that had old burnt coffee in it and you wash it out with vinegar to clean it. Very vinegary.. if you smell it up close for the first 15 minutes. Smelling it from a distance it smells like dark roast slightly burnt coffee from McDonald's. After 15 minutes it smells like a dark roast sweet black coffee , it smells like the inside of Starbucks. I feel this perfume smells so much better being layered with other fragrances. I layer follow with Dolce & Gabbana The Only One. I spray the only one on top after follow has dried. It gives it a really deep chocolatey coffee note and spraying something on top takes the vinegar scent away. I also like to layer Follow with ristretto intense Cafe. When it is layered with other fragrances the vinegar note goes away and it brings out a dark roast coffee that's enjoyable. On its own it can only be smelled from a distance to be enjoyable and needs to be sprayed lightly. Sillage is moderate and Longevity is 4 to 5 hours. I actually love it because I use it to bring out the coffee notes in other perfumes.

maci2222

Fantastic coffee opening. Go very light, if you go the slightest bit heavy the opening will smell increasingly burnt. The coffee gives way to a sweet vanilla latte. Becomes a skin scent rapidly, but I still smell it on my skin 12 hrs later. Incredibly well done as art.

auburnalmond

Delicious. It starts with sugared black coffee but it quickly transforms into a maple syrup slightly boozy delicious concoction (a drink?a cake?). It's not a complex fragrance but it's detectable, to the point that people will want to eat you! Quintessentially autumnal and very cozy.

Jewelpaq

This is a great coffee smell that may get people to follow you. On my skin, it only lasts 20 minutes & then it's disappeared. I sold my bottle.

cua_alvin_ross

This one opens up with a bit creamy, heavy and realistic coffee note, kinda like espresso. Followed by some sharp boozy sweet notes which i assume is the maple, gave me a bit of headache but maybe because i sprayed it inside my car and was too potent at first spray. This gets a bit sweet with the vanilla and tonka but not cloying. There are only few coffee based fragrance on the market right now and this one is definitely on top of the list. Blind buy and fb worthy for coffee lovers.

zhiang0113

Follow has an explosive opening of roasted coffee - warm and savoury, toasty and comforting. A sweet, creamy note is also perceptible, bringing to mind a coffee liqueur-drenched tiramisu sponge.

While coffee extracts (which Follow has loads of, judging by its murky-brown colour) tend to be short lived, the coffee note is extended using a syrupy, roasted, caramellic accord reminiscent of maple syrup with a touch of vanilla. This phase is extremely tenacious, lasting way over 8 hours on my skin and surviving a shower.

The opening was my favourite phase - it reminded me of a strong, steaming cup of joe served with pancakes - but the drydown was a little too much to me. It felt as though the whole jug of maple syrup was emptied on the poor pancakes, which were now saturated with sugar. Admittedly, this was only when I sniffed my wrist up close, and the weather's been pretty warm, so I might give it another go in winter.

fraglawyer

Kerosene’s Follow is true niche perfumery, which is why I don’t care for it. It is an acquired taste intended for a sophisticated consumer. I love and wear fragrances from niche houses, but I require some mass appeal. For example, Creed’s Aventus, Amouage’s Reflection, and almost anything by Parfums De Marly are fragrances I enjoy. Conversely, Nasomatto’s Black Afghano and Dior Privee’s Leather oud are niche frags that are well done but not something I would wear.

With Follow, I smell only dense black coffee. Wonderful to smell from a cup before adding cream and sugar, not as pleasant on skin.

In terms of quality, Follow is a grand achievement. But wearable ...

All I smell is CLOVES with a bit of coffee. I cannot make it past 5 minutes with this one.

Science&Scents

This is like sticking your nose in a bag of flavored dark roast coffee grounds. The coffee grounds of it all gives way rather quickly though--one spray on the back of my hand stuck around for a solid 30 minutes before becoming very quiet. I could swear there is clove and/or nutmeg in here. That spice stays in place of the coffee to my nose. The sweet is there but its not loud or sickly. The whole thing gives off a lightly sweetened chai latte vibe after that initial 30 minutes.

I like this a lot but I agree that the rapid loss of that coffee grounds-ness is pretty disappointing. I'm excited to bust this out in the frigid cold, though!

ts4r

To me, Kerosene Follow and Demeter Espresso are some of the most accurate coffee perfumes without the rose and cardamom we see utilized in other perfumes. The longevity is below my expectations for both scents and especially this.

Gourmand scents should have better longevity. Nevertheless, this is a very accurate coffee perfume.

decant worthy, not full bottle worthy (this is one of those gourmand perfumes that are too novel for day to day and you will never finish a bottle).

SweetBriar

Coffee beans with a hint of hazelnut. Very fun scent but fades too quickly. I put it on an hour ago and now its only a memory.

Gavmister

I am selling a 10ml decant of this if anyone is interested. pm me

muzzbait

starts off sickly-sweet (sugar-honey) and bitter (coffee), and it progresses to a gourmand scent, in the realm of b*men etc. you've really gotta be in a gourmand kinda mood to pull this one off, seriously. it progresses into a sweet resinous number, but the first 3 or 4 hours are a little too much for me...

PilotJames

Starts out as an endearing smoky coffee but quickly turns into burning plastic.

Singabera

Yes, it's a pure bright coffee, but don't imagine you'll get same effect as ou put nose into jar of freshly milled arabica, cause you'll not. You recognize coffee but it's still not completely natural smell.

krukmary

I got a sample of Follow included with a lovely swap (thank you, Christina!). After spritzing a couple pumps on my arm about 15 minutes ago, I felt compelled to comment here. That alone is saying something!
As a lifelong coffee aficionado and the general manager of a bustling coffee shop for several years, I feel confident in saying that I "know" coffee. The creator of this fragrance knows coffee too. What strikes me the most about Follow, besides the photorealistic coffee note, is the balance of its components. The smooth coffee couples with the spicy tonka, the maple sap and a little vanilla/benzoin in equal measure. No note feels like "too much" and they dance together flawlessly. Follow is a love letter to coffee.

EDIT: It's been a little over an hour since I first sprayed this. Now that amazing anchor of a coffee note is all but gone. The tonka, sap and vanillic notes are still there, but now they're dancing without their lead... Follow still smells good but it's a shadow of what it was upon first application. Still full- bottle-worthy imho though.

Paulmac1966

Just layered this with Unknown Pleasures and I’m happy to confirm they are effin awesome together.

toastynotes

The reason I bought my Kerosene sample tin in the first place was mainly to try this fragrance. I've been looking for a coffee fragrance that I really enjoy. Some that I tried like A*Men's Pure Coffee and Valentino's Uomo have coffee but it's not the star player. And one that I tried, Sebastiane's Espresso Royale, DID have coffee front and center but had a sharp, bitter note I didn't like. This one is the jackpot though and I think I'm done.

I mean, it really does smell like you just stepped into a coffee shop or that someone opened a bag of roasted coffee beans. The other notes are only there to help smooth out the overall profile of Follow and not interfere with the coffee. The tonka bean doesn't make it smell powdery. The vanilla and the maple doesn't make it smell sweet.

I literally want to smell like I've been swimming in a pool of roasted coffee beans so this will probably be the next fragrance bottle that I buy.

Edit: So I wore this fragrance today. The coffee is strong for one hour and then in the next two hours the vanilla and the maple come through. After that for several hours the fragrance becomes a tonka bean / amber combo. I'm sad that the coffee is the first thing to leave the skin but the drydown is great even if it only has a little coffee left. This is still a fragrance that I love.

Gargantuagalagala

Requested a sample of this when I bought unknown pleasures and I couldn't be happier. In the opening the coffee is front and centre. This reminds me of the discarded grinds from a shot of espresso. The rest of the scent in an airconditioned environment was very dark, woody and rich (coffee was hanging around in the background). It has a really pleasant bubble that is powerful yet isn't thick. It's as though the scent is constantly projecting and then dying off so you're left with the right balance in the air.

This requires a little distance from the skin to pick up all notes in the right concentration, 10-20cm was the sweet spot for a good 8 hours, overall lasting 11 hours on me.

At the end of the day walking out into the heat the coffee became more prevalent, so match the temperature to get the best out of this one. Despite being rated as a cold weather scent, if you're up for something richer this can work in a warm dry environment. It doesn't break down or go sickly sweet. I've yet to try this when it's hot and humid.

Pawly

When I read about this, I thought I wouldn‘t like it because I like coffee but I don‘t like anything coffee scented or anything with coffee in it, other than, well, coffee.
I was wrong.
It starts off smelling like coffee and just that. It‘s actually really nice! Reminds me of making a cup of coffee in the morning and enjoying it. After a while It comes down to a less strong coffee smell and I detect some sort of almost generic perfume smell. It‘s like you know there‘s something in this that makes it smell like a perfume and not just coffee! I don‘t know how to explain but it‘s something I seriously enjoy. The warmth of the coffee and the perfum-y smell go super well together and now I‘m even considering to get a bottle of this. It‘s certainly one of my favorites and I‘ll think about it. Fantastic coffee scent! I can see why people say it‘s the best one.

smunitz

Yes, this smells like real gourmand dark roast coffee with vanilla and syrupy sweetness. Tonka bean and amber provide a sturdy backbone to it. Quality stuff, I must have smelled tens of coffee fragrances and this is by far best of all. To give you an abstract idea: Starbucks could have doubled their sales if they sprayed this fragrance in their store the way Abercrombie does with Fierce! :) That's how good the smell really is! Try it, you will not be disappointed! Great fall and winter scent with excellent performance. Great for multiple occasions and a compliment monster!

Silver7777

Yes, I agree with the reviews that this is a fragrance that smells like coffee, not like you'd smell if put your nose in a bag of coffee beans or a cup of fresh brewed coffee. It smells imo like how I would "imagine" a cup of delicious gourmet coffee with cream and sugar to smell like. I really like Kerosene as a fragrance house because I feel like their fragrances have souls, like alot of real world work went into them, not corporate planning and pushing pleasant flatline fragrance accords on us. I can appreciate this house because like D.S. Durga it just feels right and familiar to me somehow. Anyhoo, if you want a sensory treat and you like coffee then this is a must have.

Definitely a coffee fragrance, but like freshly roasted coffee. It has just enough sweetness to make it not too bitter to the nose. The overall performance on skin was decent.

benlane19

Fresh coffee beans with a touch of syrupy sweetness. Exactly what I'm looking for in a coffee fragrance. Stunning creation by John.

Hands down the best coffee scent on the market. But it has so much more than just coffee. You get that warm vanilla with amber and spices. My only complaint if any is the longevity. I feel after 3-4 hours it’s a skin scent and after 6-8 hours it’s gone. This reminds me of Creeds Millesime Imperial, awesome scent but just doesn’t last that long but totally worth a purchase!!!

harneet

Best coffee fragrance. Hands down. Smooth coffee, I have tried follow kerosone also but follow burns the nose. Barista is more smooth and interesting.
Send me a message if someone would like a decant at good price

BY FAR THE BEST COFFEE SCENT - FULL STOP!

Tried and owned many including - Montale Cafe Greedy which has a sharp aromatic burst of roasted beens that quickly turns into a typical powdery base leaving it to smell like many dark gourmand scents.

Thierry Mugler comes across as a synthetic sweet mess more like a dark strong milky coffee made at Starkbucks after a short while again with an unremarkable effective life.

And so the list would go on... leaving Coffee Scented EDP as a novelty with generally a poor longevity compared to traditional perfumes.

This breaks the mold... Its initial spray is that of a very sweet but strong dark roast coffee bean - the sweetness provided by the vanilla and tonka (the tonka remains prevalent and somewhat prominent throughout the life of the smell). The vanilla and tonka almost hinting at a slight natural chocolate top note.

There is also a hint of tobacco for the first 2 hours I guess giving the impression of a fresh brewed HOT coffee...

Three to five hours in it takes a step down. It drops from the gorgeous pungent silage and projection down to a nice waft and evolves to a cream dark roast with less of the deep earthy feel - it now reminds me more like I have spilt some of the fresh ground roast on my shirt as opposed to sitting with the bag of beans in front of me with a steaming brew to my right.

By now the smell also has a smooth dark earthy chocolate note on top and somehow a tonka also makes a milkiness present itself which is why this is far superior to most I've tried - It doesnt devolve to a dusty, musk and or patchouli scent rather it gives the impression a strong black with a small portion of milk - a picolo I think its called...?

During the whole journey it smells distinctly of a high natural content coffee smell avoiding the generic "look at me's" that everyone easily access and raves about.

My only two complaints are its exclusivity and whilst I lasts up to 8 hours like most it has a half life that is fairly distinct.Again, that said it does it better than any...

Wearable by male and female it may just pass for office use but realistically its a personal treat of the highest level. All my colleagues had a smell and their widened eyes, raised eyebrows and OOH's said it all...

My cousin and her husband owned a wonderful local coffee shop where they roasted the beans in house. Whenever you walked in, it smelled like heaven. They were known for their rich decadent espresso and often had a line out the door to get a shot. With the spent coffee grounds, my cousin made a coffee scented body scrub with brown sugar, which was always my favorite smelling scrub. This perfume smells almost exactly like that espresso and a touch of the sugar scrub. So thick and rich.

LittleMsCharming

This is a surprisingly good straight up coffee on me... but what a deliciously addictive bitter-sweet quadruple espresso it is!! It's intense, spicy, even sexy is a way good quality well blended patchouli can be. Try it!!

When I saw the notes I was smiling because I love to sweeten my coffee with maple syrup. So I naturally had to give this perfume a go.

I'm surprised clove is not mentioned in the notes. It's very prominent to my nose. To me this fragrance is like a blast of quality foamy espresso plus Kenzo's Elephant on steroids. Coffee, clove with its sweet spiciness and the maple's sweetness. Warm, awakening, spicy, inviting. Definitely unisex. I am seriously considering a FB but I know I'll have to fight over it with my husband cause he'll like it too.

All that I can say, that I'm very impressed. I never thought I would type a post about coffee perfumes. Figuring out what to write wasn't tough. Excellent scent! Crispy coffee beans, ground and roasted on dry, hot and precious bourbon windblow. Real blast of just roasted coffee, warm and dry, enriched with a drop of smoky Carmel Brandy (and well-behaved, not vulgar vanilla), shining with the rays of balsamic base, sparkling here and there a bit of sugar coating glaze, but with sugar notes grasped exactly at the moment of roasting, when sugar turns into wine caramel. Deep, noble, expressive scent. Interesting and worth trying. Not in mainstream. I mean - not used by everyone. Not like hundreds of other perfumes so-called "best-selling", "best valentines day present". That not a type of perfume you can find in advertisements at least five minutes a day on TV before Xmas. There is too much threadbare perfumes around, that people use en masse, ad nauseam. Therefore, Follow is high above boring mainstream. In intention - dedicated to male and female audience, but by its singular character will much better harmonise with women. Maybe because of connotes with smell of coffee press machine, with relaxing afternoon and spending the moments on domestic chitchats over coffee with female friend, with extra glass of sherry and smooth smell of balsamy vanilla candles in the background. Longevity quite decent. Silage as well. I can still sense a smell of Follow on my sweater and scarf - few days after use.

This is a strong *love* for me. I've been working off a decant that I got a few months ago, and have worn it several times - and it hasn't disappointed me yet.

I get an initial blast of bitter, dark coffee. The first time I tried it, it stopped me in my tracks. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the force of full on coffee seemed a bit too strong and bitter to work as a perfume. It was bracing, to say the least!

It quickly (within minutes) settles down into a deep, creamy, rich, yummy scent that smells like coffee with dark chocolate melted in to it. It's creamy, not black coffee, with a good dose of vanilla. Like you've taken coffee and chocolate, and then poured in almost as much creamer.

Luckily for me, I don't really get the amber at all. I'm a little surprised, because I'm finding amber often doesn't work for me at all. But, whatever amber is in here isn't noticeable to me at all.

I also get amazing longevity - if I put on Follow in the morning, I can still smell it, easily, the next morning. (I tend to spray on my chest, under my shirt, so some fragrance is transferring and that is likely helping longevity. But, compared to other perfumes, I find Follow lasts better/longer, for me.)

And, I'm always curious when reading reviews - so I'll add that I'm a female, and a light sprayer in general.

This offering from Kerosene is one of the strangest perfumes I have even smelled. Right off, I get a big blast of French roast coffee bean, the kind where they roast it nearly black and all the oils rise to the surface. This is mixed with a sweet toffee or vanilla and sticky amber.

It has an undercurrent of something I cant identify.

It goes on very potent, and projects more then arms length, but this is short lived, as it's a skin scent within a few hours on me.

If you are looking for a good coffee fragrance, this is the one you want to try.
Personally, I do like to ware it around the house, but wouldnt want to go to the office smelling like a coffee bean.

As all perfumes in the Kerosene line-up, this is very different and unique. You may get some reactions like, 'do you work in a coffee house'.. LOL

I do recommend trying a small decant to start. Would not blind buy this.

Jwhdz1

I've given this a few wearings now and while I like it, I have to admit I'm not overly impressed. Not much development and not as long lasting as I would have hoped. While not a bad fragrance by any stretch of the imagination, I think there are better offerings in this "genre" - Mancera's Aoud Cafe comes to mind as being the more pleasurable option.

OTA Mom

comes off as scorched to me, although the coffee note is spot on. i get nothing other than burnt beans.

seekritdude

The opening is great, but after that its all down hill for me.

Starts off with a almost imagine if say coffee was a beer, champagne, or wine. You pour it and you get a ton of foam or "bloom" and its delicious, rich, thick, creamy and intense...

But this is short lived.

After that it reminds me a lot of another fragrance.... Espresso royale.. Now I know some people like that, but im in the camp that does not, as a matter of fact I dont even really think it smells like coffee. This is a little bit better, and I certainly do get more of a coffee smell than that, and it never goes into the ginger snap cookie if you will vibe of ER but....

I dunno its like I get some sorta stale, left on the ground, coffeeish candy. Its bitter and just not very enjoyable.

Theres also a bit of a fresh aspect to it as well. Im not sure exactly what it is, but I guess looking at the notes maybe its the sort of benozin used giving it a smokey freshness if you will.

Personally I think this goes into novelty territory. And in terms of novetlyish coffee scents, Tonkacinno, and Baristas legendary are better smelling scents to me. Certainly this is a much more straight up black coffee sorta smell than those, its just that after the opening I dont think its a particularly good smelling fragrance. But if you like ER or Sensei sorta coffee smelling scents this might be worth checking out.

Performance like most kerosenes that ive tried seemed good.

I thought I'd never be too excited again about a coffee-gourmand perfume, but how wrong I was! Follow got the best opening among all coffee based scents that I've tested so far! So real, so smooth and inviting - just perfect...
The drydown is more vanilla-syrupy in a very pleasant and comforting way. The reason I'm in love with this fragrance is the warm feeling, the wonderful cozy atmosphere that creates around me.

Seeing such a nice guy, an ex-youtube reviewer to make a masterpiece scent as Follow - it's like a dream come trough for all perfume enthusiasts around the world. He just proved he's on the right track.

Kerosene, well done!

Calvini

Just compared to Pure Coffee side by side, and Follow makes that one smell like a simple fougere!
I have to reiterate that this is the MOST coffee you'll ever get in a fragrance! The opening is the most amazing part which smells like intense caramel latte, then settles right away into a toffee-like coffee candy. It's very sweet but not cloying (unless you over-spray), and definitely one of the best coffee-gourmand!
Unfortunately due to its nature, it's not as calming or sophisticated as Pure Coffee.

Every once in a while, you smell and are enveloped in a luxurious and rich scent that makes you close your eye, slow down, and just breathe in the beauty of the notes that you catch. It makes you smile every time you smell it. As you breathe it in, it takes you to your perfume happy place.

A good perfume has a nice smell. A great perfume has layers and an aroma that you want to savor and that is what I get with ‘Follow’ by House of Kerosene. Initially your olfactory senses are pleased with the yummy smell of coffee beans and as your first cranial nerve is further tickled, your interest is peaked and then the layers come…vanilla and amber…ummm.

Back in the seventies, in the UK and Ireland, we had this thing called Camp Coffee, a Scottish product, a liquid alternative to instant coffee, containing caffiene-free coffee and chicory essence. It had been around for quite a while, but became popular due to a real coffee bean price hike back then. My grandmother used it to flavour coffee cake icing, and in that respect alone, was it okay.
This, upon initial impression, reminds me of that, unfortunately.
I hope testing more gives me more positive results, but for now, less coffee shop aroma, more disappointing, uncalled for nostalgia.

Update: A bit less sweet and clodding in the drydown, this is probably fine for those without a camp coffee scent association.

This is up front coffee then booze. It is gourmand and lovely. If you love boozy coffee scents, this one is for you. As with most Kerosenes, I love them but they don't last. For the money, I want more longevity. But, for those into the Mugler A*men and Pure series, they wish they smelled like this.

JaneBluff

This is definitely a coffee dominant fragrance but it smells like the coffee beans have been ground and left to sit out a bit too long.

It's as if I've walked into a coffee shop before closing and they are just starting to clean up some of the coffee spills left by other customers throughout the day.

I actually like it but I do wish it was sweeter and creamier.

The latest release from Kerosene prompted me to finally try the house out---in addition to the sample for Follow that I was sent (with a couple others I ordered), several samples were included that I did not order, so that's always a nice start.

On the fragrance itself, Follow is a coffee-dominant gourmand that includes the variety of sweet notes shown above. I don't get many of the sweet notes distinctly, but the amber/benzoin/sap side is certainly in balance with the vanilla, as neither aspect is dominant, and it does come off ever so slightly as powdery, a nod to the tonka.

It doesn't evolve much on my skin, remaining in balance throughout its dry down, and I like this, as the fragrance doesn't begin too sharp or harsh or sweet to require resolution in the first place.

Follow is probably the sweetest coffee-dominant fragrance I've tried. I own several coffee fragrances, and they're all some variation of more acerbic, darker, spicier, boozier, or simply less sweet, but among these, Follow is much sweeter, for comparison's sake, than: Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Coffee, Sebastiane Espresso Royale, Gallagher Fragrances Carpe Cafe, Legendary Fragrances Barista, or Piotr Czarnecki Sensei.

In that it's sweetly different from the other coffee options above, I intend to purchase a bottle of Follow.

Agreed; why is that blue "dislike" bar so long? Who has smelled this?

Perfumeaddict777

All the notes sound fabulous! Who doesn't love coffee! The maple sap and all the other notes are making my heart skip a beat and my mouth water! I want to test this!!
