I love this patchouli, a warm, enveloping scent of soft oriental. It captivates, lifts the mood, surrounds with good energy, calms, and brings joy. It stays with you for a long time, but subtly. Never have I liked any other patchouli so much. All notes are here in perfect harmony of warmth and richness of the East; there are no loud, overpowering heavy notes of leather, animalic, or smoky scents that can overwhelm me. It is a symphony of the most beautiful elements of oriental perfumes.Wonderful, simply delightful.

Absolutely amazing scent. To me it`s a woody Patchouli with traces of Vanilla. It is extremely long lasting.

It has not any patchouli and peach or ylang-ylang..that is laughable..It's just a brutal strong sandalwood with pepper and some unidentifiedable florals and sweetness. That's all. Cheap, harsh incense stick smell. Just like at an indian-shop. It's not a parfum for humans. It just an oriental air freshener, at best. Worst from L'erbolario. Big thumb down!
UPDATE 2024:
Times change and people change - and so do I...
...and sometimes my opinions...as in this case...and I am very happy about that!
As time went on, I often returned to this bottle because I was hoping something would change, because I didn't believe this brand could be bad...and it worked!
...and suddenly I smelled the beautiful patchouli that I never had before! All I smelled was an overly sweet, floral, smoky stick smell, without any beauty, but especially without patchouli! What I smelled most, as the main character, I thought until then was the typical sandal scent! ...but I was wrong! The problem was that I didn't know correctly what patchouli is! I thought it was something, but it wasn't!
The big help came from Etro Patchouly, which I had a small sample of and which became a great favourite of mine and which I smelled until I had the essence of it fixed, a very very natural, beautiful and real real patchouli! I suddenly smelled something very similar at L'erbolario! My jaw dropped when it happened to me!
It was a revelation!
Now I can smell the patchouli in everything and not something else that I think is just that!
I have experienced an evolution of one of my abilities and I have learned so much from it and I am grateful to fate for it!
I have grown to love L'erbolario Patchouli. It's still a little too sweet and floral for me, but now the patchouli comes through in everything, which I love. ...and that's the Essence for me!
This has become my story with L'erbolario Patchouli and I'm so glad it turned out this way!

@Hidubais it does not compare with Van Cleef Moonlight Patchouli.
Moonlight Patchouli is a sumptuous Princess covered in just about rosey-a-little-woody patchouli. This is the cheap patchouli used in incense sticks! So harsh that upon removing the bottle cap I had to put it back, box the bottle and bury it in a drawer. Too old style, not at all pleasantly so.
It is really the most atrocious patchouli concoction I have ever smelled. And I love L'Erbolario products AND a good patchouli, to the point I have a bottle of pure oil from Indonesia, a vintage that matured now for over 30 years. It is amazing mixed with few drops of jasmine, or rose.
But this... nope, I will not wear this mess, even though my lovely daddy gifted me with both the eau perfumee' (cologne basically, that is what acqua profumata translates into) and body lotion (sigh)... Not a hint of flowery notes, or vanilla, or nougat, or smooth musk... none. Just cheap, harsh incense stick like patchouli... in a word: YUK!
NOT for blind buys guys, honestly.

Earthy, deep, intense, rich, sumptuous, opulent ... very persistent perfume. Fragrance that changes over the course of the day and the classic scent that is still felt on the body and clothes the next day. (fabulous on scarves or scarves .....). Perfume for few and not for all, certainly for addicted patchouli like me !!!!
Hopefully it won't become a discontinued in the future. Warning ... addictive (in a good sense of course !!!!

Someone asked about the comparison between this and Moonlight patchouli...well, Moonlight patchouli is one of my favorite and I find it stylish and elegant. However, this one is too loud, too retro and too aggressive. I like it but I cannot imagine to wear it with an elegant suit. Moonlight patchouli is way more classy.

If you love retro orientals such as vintage YSL Opium, Clinique Aromatics Elixir, CK Obsession, EL Youth-Dew and such, you will enjoy this one! I'm not saying that these scents are exceptionally similar, but they do share some of their DNA and overall concept, and they pack a similar punch! I'm not a big fan of the aforementioned fragrances, in fact a majority of them don't work for me at all, but L'Elbolario Patchouly somehow agrees with my skin. This is a very powerful combo of patchouli, rose, musk and vanilla; I would say that it's a mature, confident, attention-drawing scent. Since patchouli is the top note, the first impression is very herbal and even bitter, but it soon turns sweet/balsamic with the arrival of vanilla. Although this is advertised as unisex, I'd say that it's more on the feminine side. The packaging is absolutely ridiculous (seriously, whoever designed that box should be sacked!), but the scent itself is certainly worth investing in.

How is it compared to Van Cleef Moonlight Patchouli?

Dry, strong, exotic, only for the ones that are familiar with patchouli. I personally enjoyed every last drop of it, and stood out from the candy cane smelling middle age crowd! I grew up with this over night!

As a lover of patchouli I could not wait to test this perfume! As soon as I saw it I sprayed some on my wrist and WOW.... an immediate NO ?!! It was simply horrifying, and so I quickly carried on to spray other L'Erbolario perfumes on my skin.
It wasn't until later that I realized something: The Patchouli sample in the pharmacy had gone bad! It was totally rotten! What a disappointment AND a relief!
LESSON LEARNED: If a perfume smells exceptionally bad, it has most likely gone off and you should give it a second chance.
That said, can not wait to test it again and give you a hopefully better review! I always have my hopes up for patchouli. ;)
By the way, if you are travelling in Italy, you can find L'Erbolario perfumes in pharmacies! This is because pharmacies in Italy carry A LOT of natural products. (L'Erbolario is a natural range of beauty products)

I always thought that I love patchouli until I found L'Erbolario, can not cope with it. I was immediately attracted by a strong and intense aroma. Like all L'Erbolario fragrances with strong aura around you, I would definitely recommend it, but not for those (like me) who prefer light and fresh fragrances with citrus top notes. This is much too heavy.
Extremely strong and durable, a bit retro, reminded me of the ones that were produced in the 80s. Maybe you'll like it though.
