Encre Noire A L'Extreme by Lalique is a Woody Aromatic fragrance for men. Encre Noire A L'Extreme was launched in 2015. The nose behind this fragrance is Nathalie Lorson. Top notes are Cypress, Elemi resin and Bergamot; middle notes are Haitian Vetiver, Vetiver, Incense and Orris; base notes are Benzoin, Sandalwood and Patchouli.

As the new successor to fragrance Encre Noire by Lalique presented in 2006, the market welcomes ENCRE NOIRE A L'Extreme, an intense masculine edition available since October 2015. With its design, the new edition reminds us of the famous "Encrier" designed by Rene Lalique in 1913, which served for design of the first fragrance Encre Noir and its successors Encre Noire Pour Elle in 2009 and Encre Noire Sport in 2013. The latest edition after moving towards a lighter interpretation and ‘sporty’ version of the original, the accent is now placed on intensive woodsy blend of cypress and vetiver.

Composition of the new fragrance ENCRE NOIRE A L'EXTREME is announced as very masculine, intensive, powerful. "Bergamot, cypress, incense, vetiver (Java & Haiti), sandalwood, patchouli ENCRE NOIRE À L’EXTRÊME redefines masculine sensuality with a powerful blend of cypress and vetiver. A new woody intensity, for a unique, unforgettable trail…"

The fragrance is available as 50 and 100ml Eau de Parfum.

Just got into fragrance a couple of months ago, this was the second one I bought (I now have five). It's by far my favourite, and the favourite of most of the people I've asked. It smelled like incense when I first got it, reminded me of church as a kid. I didn't smell the bonfire until tonight but now I keep getting whiffs of it, and I honestly love it. It's disappointing cause I can't imagine finding a perfume I like more, so I don't get to explore the hobby!

Lasts around 8 hours on my skin.

I blind bought this and for the price it is an incredible fragrance the incense and cypruss is strong amd in the back the are the woody notes. I van smell a bit bergamot too. Longetivity is also incredible for the price. My dad felt in love eith it and steals it from me but the 100ml is enough for both of us.

DMXWKW

Really nice opening - bright and fizzy...

Dry down made me feel sick, someone below compared it to meat and I have to somewhat agree - there is something in this that makes me feel nauseated. Dirty vetiver.

Not as people describe as gothic, death etc, but it's definitely dark and heavy

Kurohitsuji90

the fragrance gets alot of hate but i do like it as its very unique and strange smelling. its a very strong and woody fragrance i would recommend only using this during cold winter times

mestikli

it just smells like wood wtf

gtxrainy

i have the other 2 Encre Noires, this is next on my list. Will make a review once i get my hands on this. In the meantime go read my other Encre Noire reviews 👍

AmberNote

I love hate this fragrance. It is complex and has some beautiful notes. Definitely unique. But to me there's an odd note not unlike meat, as if you're passing by a butcher shop.

exmin

beautiful unique and cheap i wish all perfume was like this

SiddhantSuryawanshi

Entwined with notes of damp earth and the smooth, polished scent of antique wood. It's heady, a touch dangerous, and it stirs within me a longing I didn't know I held. It smells of ancient forests and the secrets they hold.

And then I see her. Not a woman, but a phantom conjured by the fragrance itself. She is moonlight slipping through leaves, eyes like the midnight sky. Her laughter is the rustle of silk on a summer breeze. I follow this intoxicating trail, drawn ever deeper into its intoxicating embrace.

She's not here, of course. But the ghost of her lingers, wrapped in the smoky, woody scent that swirls around me. This is power and primal seduction, tempered by something softer...an unexpected sweetness, like finding a wildflower in the heart of a dark forest.

And that's when it hits me. This isn't magic. This intoxicating journey, this yearning... it's all a result of the fragrance I wear, Encre Noire A L'Extreme by Lalique.

OrangeGuy

At start it smells like some weird soup and foggy wet. It gets better in the drydown

gorin

Blind buying perfume is really dumb and so are you if you do it

Except for Encre Noire a l'extreme
For $50 aud this is absolutely goated
This cost me the same as 2 decants from clive christian bruh

Excellent cool, dark and smooth smokey pine forest smell
If you smelled this without knowing the price you wouldn't think it costs less than a quarter of a decent niche/designer perfume

Sillage isn't too intense so it's easy to wear when its cold
Projection is pretty good

10/10 for the price u literally must buy this

Blind bought and smells like Nasomatto Pardon which is one of my favourites. You cannot beat this for value, impressive stuff! Patchouli based fragrance...winner!

Mxsty

Not versatile but smells nice, lasts long time

Samfbob

I love this fragrance, to me it smells like a dead and dark forest but in the best way possible. Maybe not the easiest to wear but i haven't had any problems with it. Amazing value!!

cesarsamano

I like it, to my nose it's very similar to kumkat wood from mancera on my skin.

TheDude

Smells similar to Orto Parisi Terroni. Its great! Even survived a shower. Great fragrance!

ARainyDayInMay

Based on the initial test and success of Encre Noir, I bought this for my boyfriend and it was a resonating success.
A bit sweeter than the OG possibly from the benzoin and elemi, it has a hint of smoky, dark caramel.
It sits closer to the skin than Encre Noir, and the performance is not as good for an EdP, but the smell is just as elegant.
If Encre Noir is Batman's scent, this is Bruce Wayne dressed sharp and ready for a meeting.
There is a slight smokiness from the incense, but it doesn't make it a dominant note.
Is it worth having both the EdT and this one? I think yes, because even though they are in the same vein, they are different enough to be relevant.

StuddedLeather

Picture the original Encre Noire but just made a little more interesting with some herbs & smokiness.
Very very similar, possibly redundant, but I love the DNA so much I'm happy to have both.

Anabol2336

Something this smooth belies a kind of classiness and suave character. A richer more intense and more refined version of the original. I get a pine forest vibe similar to what I get with Bottega Venetta Pour Homme, but slightly darker because of the Vetiver note. If you’re a vetiver fan definitely seek this one out. You will not be disappointed. I guess I don't understand what people mean when they call it a gothic scent because I don't get that at all. This one is perfectly wearable and not that challenging to pull off at all. I put this one in the same category as I do Terre D'Hermes and Tom Ford Grey Vetiver. They are slightly more mature leaning scents but as long as you are dressed the part, say in a nice suit, you will definitely receive positive attention and compliments for sure. These fragrances are absolutely perfect scents for an office type job. In my opinion this one is even blind but worthy it's that good.

KingKaris

A confident walk through a dark eldritch wood. The hours are long and the sun is setting, knowing now that you are completely lost a cabin appears and you come across a small clearing. You try and make yourself comfortable on the floor so you can get some rest, as you begin to fall asleep you hear a noise you do not recognize.

orestes

Reminds me ysl m7.I prefer encre noir & encre noir sport

juliebhenning

I blind bought this and it's a good frag, but it is too masculine for my skin. The longevity is very good.

chaosepher

At first it seemed very linear and a bit thin.
After a couple of months this has opened up become something I reach for often. I don't wear it as often as I think about it, but every time I walk past the bottle i have the urge to smell the atomizer. However this is up there with other 100 - 300 $ fragrances, quality way above its price.
For this reason i blind bought it, and I suggest any adventurous nose to do the same.

At first this seemed to me the smell of ink, like when you smell paper after you do a fast or heavy drawing with ballpoint pen.
Sticky and dark, like black ink....
I don't own the EDT encre noir, From what i remember smelling that one, is that this is more luxurious, thicker and wears more like a "complete" fragrance. Where the original feels more of a original olfactory art piece than a day to day fragrance.

As I have experienced more vetiver in other fragrances i know that the vetiver has many 'faces' so to say. The one used in this is done in a special way and i even feel that it has transcended what vetiver normally is.
The Black Knight {FB} is another vetiver fragrance that has transcended what it is to a abstract realm. The fact that I would mention such a fragrance next to this shows again that this can easily stand its own next to expensive niche perfumes. I have also repeatedly heard the comparison with Sycomore from Chanel, again a top priced fragrance ( I haven't sampled this myself)

So don't expect any soapy or clean, or bright, or woody vetiver as in many vetiver/citrus combos (which I do enjoy as well)
This is as many people here describe it; dark, sticky, sap, ink, smokey, heavy etc...
As time passes it seems to become more complex or less linear, maybe its maturing, or maybe its me getting to know it and detecting more in it.

Final thought, if you are into fragrances...into exploration of scents... just get the full bottle, I cant think of better way to spend 20-30 $ and this is not something that really speaks from 1 or 2 test strips. Its got to be experienced on a longer time-base.

Tip: this is a instant masculine/dark, base or foundation for other perfumes. If you have something a bit light, or fem leaning unisex, or a straight up female targeted release. Spray it on top of this, goes well with most fragrances I have tried so far.

McMurdo

This is a high quality scent of vetiver and incense, although there are more stated notes such as Iris. Dark, dry and masculine. I think that this perfume is a great tribute to woods. Against its longevity and sillage and except in extreme heat it can be used all year round.

MGS_1

Amazing one not safe for blind buy but this one really beats alot of nich perfumes
It seems to be 500$
Scent 11/10
Projection 8/10
Value for money 12/10

Dylanduke

Pine tree sap getting stuck on your hand as a child. Dark, mysterious and intense.

Gilbertotejera

Bought the original Encre Noir and gave it away, hating the smell. Bought the Sport flanker and really love it.

I was cautious of this one as I thought it was an amped up version of the original. And wow! It is really the best of the bunch…. Mildly sweet, not cloying, smooth and very elegant. The smell of success.

Encre Noir original is the ugly goth big brother.

Encre Noir Sport is the youngest and playful brother.

Encre Noire A L'Extreme is the distinguished and handsome dad of the above two.

duftschneke

This smells like terre d'hermes died in a dark forest and its corpse is rotting, but in a good way.

CarlosLyra

This is what being chased through a hunted forest smells like.
You sense the smell of pine threes, the smell of greens, the cold air and the complete darkness in front of you, while you feel death whisper in your ear.
Suddenly you smell some ink and the paper that you are writing on about being chased in the woods😊

Solwashere

Anyone else think it smells of pickles in the opening?

BigBearHK

Niche quality scent in a fraction of cost. I adore the intense vetiver in opening & mids. Deep & dark, last almost whole day 9-10hrs. NOT a safe blind buy. Nothing feminine, not for kids
Excellent for cold weather (wearing it right now)

Marssade

Some said that this is an unbearable smell..crushed pines or something ... I tell you that this scent is my most complimented by far.And this is because when lingers in the air, theres nothing that can compete it...

RBOC

Not a safe blind buy. Some nice notes but on my skin it smelled like a dank, damp, musty forest - not really how I want to smell! Generally a great price at discounters but sample first!

pars2002

Bitter, nuclear Bitter and super masculine but … ZERO PROJECTION and weak longevity

SwampSaddle

I was excited to try A L'Extreme as a fan of the original. The addition of resins and bergamot add a fresh spicy touch to the opening. Oddly though, my nose found the opening of the original fresher and more citrusy, which I prefer. The mids are smokier with an incense note and the base heads in a Middle Eastern direction due to the benzoin. The base reminds me of Prada's Amber Pour Homme or Diptyque's Tam Dao. If you prefer the scent of an ancient dark and damp forest, go for the original. But if you prefer more of an oriental vibe, A L'Extreme is your choice. I do want to note that the longevity of A L'Extreme is much better than that of the original.

ttsib

Very masculine feel, kinda in between a barber shop fougere style and a super dark leatherish fragrance. It has that sort of a twist that makes you stand out even if it's a mainstream designer offering. I saw a comment down below about the original Wood and indeed now I understand that's why i love it so much. The orginal Dsquared Wood was one of my fav ever

JaySentz

Happy to finally have found an affordable wood scent to replace He Wood by DSQUARED² which was discontinued (does anyone remember that one?).

A lot of the reviews warn this isn’t for everyone, but if you like wood and vetiver it’s a safe bet. The warm benzoin base gives a touch of sweetness in the dry down and the bergamot some freshness up front. I don’t usually spray more than 3 or 4 times but with this I found I needed more to notice it and my wife can barely pick it up unless she gets very close to me, but at the discounter price not complaining.

Clauder13

Chanel's Sycomore for cheap.
This is probably one of the best bang for your buck fragrances you could ever buy.
Earthy, dark and woody.
Not for everyone but definitely worth a try.

sadboy2002

I haven't tried Encre Noire OG but most reviewers seem to think the main difference between the two is the addition of the incense note here. The incense note in A L'Extreme is bright, resinous and citrusy courtesy of the elemi, I get no smoke at all in this fragrance. Haitian vetiver is definitely a good descriptor for the vetiver note here, refined and light as compared to a darker, smokier Java vetiver. This fragrance is cold and green, but unexpectedly friendly. I could see wearing this well into the springtime and maybe even starting again in the late summer, I don't see it doing well with particularly high temp days but it is not definitively fall/winter as some would have you believe.

benlippi

Man the opening is amazing. Dark resinous woods that’s almost chocolatey. Very rich. It does indeed smell like an expensive niche frag. The richness fades as it dries down and becomes more of an inky vetiver scent, which is still nice but god damn I wish that opening stuck around more.

I had the sport flanker a while back, I thought the quality was nice but found it a bit boring and ended up selling. This is much better imo. Now I have to try the og. Big ups to Lalique for making such high quality products for affordable prices, gives me hope in the world.

Marssade

@animalorigin this is my most compliment fragrance ever!!! Just dont overspray it...nice review though🤟

animalorigin

This was a blind buy for me as I didn't have access to a sample and all I can say is that this is a MASTERPIECE!
NOT FOR FANS OF sweet, powdery fragrances.
It's like being hugged by a canopy of cypress trees as you walk under their shade on a cold, misty day.
So, it need not be said that this is a cold weather wear.

Definitely not mass appealing so don't expect compliments, because this is not that kind of scent and you definitely have to be of a certain age (30+) to pull this off.

Longevity is mediocre; approximately 4 hours is what I usually get and the sillage is "intimate".

This is hyper-masculine and bold and I truly believe that this is what a man should smell like.

Edit: I forgot to add that once this dries down, at it's base all you will smell is Iso-E Super. If you're a fan of Molecule 01 by Escentric Molecules then you'll love the base of this.

Professor_Q

I'll start by saying that I'm a big fan of the original EN, it's one of my all-time favorites and I've been wearing it for years. I'm also generally impressed with the high quality and excellent value of most Lalique fragrances, so I thought that blind buying this was a safe bet. And it was, I do really like the fragrance.

My short review would be: I like this a lot but personally prefer the original.

The original EN is simple, with two dominant notes, vetiver and cypress. To me, this is has an aroma very much like EN but with a strong incense note added in (the elemi is part of that, too). It's VERY nice but somewhat overwhelms or drowns out the vetiver, which is the note that I love so much in the original. Yes, the vetiver is there without a doubt, but the incense overpowers it in my opinion, especially in the opening and in the first hour or so. The vetiver in EN has such subtle tones and that's what I'm missing here.

Like all fragrance reviews, this is my subjective opinion. It is a beautiful fragrance and if you like EN and feel like gambling a little bit I would say try it! I do think it is likely to have more mass appeal than the original. I'll stick to the original after this bottle is gone but it's worth a try if it sounds interesting to you.

emrekoc14531396

original and especially extreme resembles givenchy society as it dries

denden_22

First off: to me this is a much more "fresh" woody than "dark" woody.

Whenever I smell this and close my eyes I instantly feel teleported alone deep into a cool foggy, mossy, piney forest in the Pacific Northwest - though I have never even been to the USA (lol). I wear it every time I want to sort of be in that mood; melancholic. Which is why I don't wear this very often - it's like a masterpiece of a sad song or a masterpiece of a sad drama -- they are absolute genius works of art, and exactly that is why they make you feel that "post-movie sadness" or "song-induced sadness" -- one of the reasons I actively avoid sad movies and very rarely listen to sad songs.

Many say this is a fall/winter fragrance. I say it's perfect in spring and it's absolutely exquisite on a rainy day in summer, it can be a great signature scent in fall/winter too.

Now about the scent: there is a VERY DEEP high-quality vetiver base which acts as the canvas for the remaining creation, it's augmented by a touch of incense adding a little tickle to the scent, i like it!

As the top-note there is a lot of coniferous/woody freshness, as if you just broke off a young cypress branch, masterfully complimented with a little citrusy bergamont freshness to give that extra "zing". But that's not all: additionally there is some Elemi which creates a super smooth gradient from coniferous freshness into the citrus freshness while also adding a resinous/balsamic undertone, combining all three elements into a new unique fresh scent. Just wow!

And then as the cherry on the cake: the powderiness from the orris and the benzoin, the latter of which also adds even more to the balsamic undertone, AND the earthiness of patchouli which just rounds up the whole composition perfectly.

Honestly, this is a niche-quality masterpiece for an absolute bargain price, the execution is just a perfect 10/10.

In terms of personal taste, coming from someone who loves sweet fragrances, and is not a fan of melancholy;

I give this a VERY good 8.7/10!

liani

How is it like or not like the original, you may wonder…

A side by side impression here. L’Extreme definitely projects more, opens wet, juicy where EN is dry and flat. Maybe it’s the bergamot giving a fruity lift to the top. I originally chose L’Extreme over Sport because I was (still am) in an incense phase, searching for that note. Here, we have elemi, benzoin and incense not found in EN, all incense resins. Along with citrus, the elemi is present in the opening along with EN’s familiar cedar and vetiver. The bergamot mellows but leaves an impression of underlying sweetness not found in EN. It recalls a mossy note to me. The vetiver here is doubled, some call it a “vetiver bomb” but on me the resins and incense dominate or at least equal the vetiver’s intensity. This initial vetiver note leads into the mid and here is where the incense really shines. Not picking up a lot of orris but there’s definitely a soft powderyness developing. It’s beautiful. Next the sandalwood shows up to add its creamy powder in with the orris. The drydown is sandalwood and incense mainly, for me with the smallest, nearly invisible hint of patch. I never noticed before in years of wearing but EN seems very linear compared to L’Extreme. On me EN moves from darkly bitter, which I love, to sweeter at drydown, whereas L’Extreme maintains its incensy sweetness throughout, despite the changing, developing notes. L’Extreme has a slightly more projecting dry down than EN. On my skin, L’Extreme ends in powdery sandalwood and EN with sweet cedary sawdust.

So my opinion is that here L’Extreme may not necessarily indicate stronger but deeper complexity in notes and development. Some mention that in their experience it is weak, disappearing, lacking longevity. Not so on me. Like EN, I love L’Extreme on its own and especially for layering. They are both excellent tools to tame cloying florals. A successful blind buy, as are almost all my Laliques!

Duci0167

Just opened the bottle. As a big fan od Encre Noir this one have so much the same scent as the original. Guess will have to wait to mature a little bit and see the "artistic twists" on the Extreme version.

deadnose

@Domnul_Paris

"L'Extreme" is an artistic and not a technical descriptor—referring to the scent profile (more intense woods), not to the concentration of the fragrance. A similar example would be L'Eau D'Issey Pour Homme Intense—it is not a more intense version of its predecessor--the maison simply thought the scent is 'intense' on its individual merit.

It's worth pointing out there's no French legal regulation on what percentage of concentrate constitutes a parfum, though there are general conventions—a creator can call it a parfum if they think it has enough power/tenacity (esp. in comparison to other versions of the same fragrance family). The "% vol." refers to alcohol for legal reasons, for A) taxation and B) the inflammability of the product for hazardous transport, similar to drinking alcohol ABV.

Dylanturek

I blind bought this, a bit nervously, after reading so many mixed reviews and having a decent sized collections with little Vetiver experience. What this fragrance has taught me is that preference is so personal and unique to the individual. To me, this is such a smooth, warm, and easy to wear wood scent. I spent the better part of a day trying to figure out why some people say it smells like death, or it's medicinal, or just plain offensive. At the same time, I got a decant of a few popular fragrances that, based on everything I've heard and read, I had no doubt I would love. When I first sprayed spicebomb extreme, the cumin note in the opening ruined the whole fragrance for me and I couldn't understand why it is so universally beloved. After that I tried 40 knots expecting to find a new versatile scent to wear to the office and spent the rest of that day wanting to scrub it clean from my body. To me, it smells like slightly spicy and floral baby powder. And really strong baby powder at that. So I guess what I'm saying is that I'm no longer going to blind buy anything based on positive reactions on YouTube or fragrantica. I won't write off any fragrances with notes that interest me because of negative reviews either. To me, encore noir a l'exteme is far and away better and easier to wear than either 40 knots or spicebomb extreme. And I know that's probably not a popular opinion, but it's just that: my opinion, so take it for what it's worth (not much). That said, don't write it off if you're on the fence, but do get a sample first.

lingo

This is a very simple scent, but don’t let it fool you. It’s also very sophisticated. As others have noted, this is a higher quality vetiver fragrance. I’ve had low quality vetiver and the low quality stuff pales in comparison.

I have not tried the original Encre Noir nor the Encre Noir Sport flanker, however I believe others when they say that this is the most “wearable” of the lot. I don’t understand people’s comments that this isn’t a versatile fragrance. I find that I can wear this for nearly every occasion. You can dress up or go casual with it. The one instance I can see in which this fragrance would not do well is on a hot summer day. It won’t draw compliments like some other crowd pleasing fragrances, but people certainly do notice it. It’s just not as “in your face” as other scents.

Encre Noir A L’Extreme lasts a good three or four hours on me. I usually apply four to five sprays, which does the trick. Longevity isn’t an important criterion for me, as I keep a bottle in my office at work and can reapply as needed.

The fragrance is beautiful from the opening throughout. I honestly can’t think of anything I don’t like about the actual scent. The only gripe I have is actually with the bottle. While the bottle is well made, the atomizer on my copy isn’t great. It has a tendency to squirt rather than spray at times. The juice will sometimes drip down the side because of this. Fortunately, I don’t feel bad about this because Encre Noir A L’Extreme is such a great value. There is very little risk in blind-buying this, as it’s so affordable.

This is certainly making a strong case to become my signature scent. As of now, I can say with confidence that this is my favorite fragrance out of all of the others I’ve owned so far.

Arkan Arzy Ghozy

If a girl wears this with my eyes blindfolded, it kinda give this depiction of gothic youthful girl wearing full black or maybe a grown woman with a villain vibe to it, to put it simple she may look dangerous and unusual for some man, but me personally, I'll be pretty attracted to her, it gives her this dark yet comforting, mysterious yet charismatic vibe. If a man wears this, he's simply either a ghost rider, van helsing, or other type of character similar. It's really masculine on a man, and head-turning for a woman. Not everyone taste tho, but it's does smells higher quality than the price. Brilliant.

Love's Secret Domain

I used this when I first bought and appreciated it but it didn't draw me back.
Tonight, after reading other people's impressions I decided to try again, but to spray heavily and really find out. I sprayed my chest 3 times, my wrists and back of the neck once.

After 15 minutes things had settled to barely noticeable unless I wave my wrist. I had likely gone noseblind to its sharper top notes.

But maybe 30 minutes later while swinging the kettlebell, a very familiar scent emerged. I knew the scent well: I smelled this recently on a female friend who I learned was wearing No.04 Bois de Balincourt. Then I remembered that this was also the mysterious skin scent of a girl I was with 15 years ago. At the time I assumed that she had some beguiling natural scent to her, perhaps her genetics, or her diet, or her skin's microbiome....

Now, after comparing the notes of these two perfumes, I believe I am beginning to understand. This is what sandalwood oil can become when mixed with skin and sweat.

With a heavy enough dowsing, Encre Noire A L'Extreme no longer disappears/elicits anosmia. Well, the vetiver and the incense and much of the cedar has. But sandalwood is now pulsating subtly off of me. My interest is renwed, and maybe I'll layer it next time w/ something like an oud or cedarwood oil, also on skin, and see where it takes me.

2 years ago i bought it because it was cheap. Tried it and thought wow this is strong wood and fire in someones cabin. Waited for winter to come. now its -15 Celcius and i love it. whiffs from under my shirt while i walk outside in the cold is just mesmerising. The price makes this a must buy for me. But thats al it is. Wood nothing else matters. For older men that dont care about signature designer parfumes. This is for wolf not sheep. Are u a Wolf?

Domnul_Paris

can someone tell me why this has the same alcohol content as the original, but is marketed as a stronger concentration?

FirstSense

This EN Extreme version was three years ago a difficult one for me. I was intrigued by the EN og but it was not a love. Because the extreme was heavily discounted I risked the chance. I like the presentation a lot. Very artistic and stylish. But after I sprayed a good whiff on my hand recently it smelled absolutely wonderful. Apparently this one developed very well in the bottle that I stored carefully. The opening is the same characteristic dusty musty vetiver with a dark damp pine smell. But this Extreme is softer in the opening and much more complex in the heart and the base. Dry old hardwood with resins and a beautiful patchouli in the dry down. It's very similar to Channels Sycamore. That one has a better punch but cost tenfold. The performance of EN Extreme is not super but for me it's acceptable. I don't think I want it to be stronger because the synthetic (Iso E Super?) materials can get nauseating. I really like the sophisticated artistic smell of this one and for the price it's a very decent perfume in my collection and it still grows on me

Tshahb

It indeed opens like an extreme version of the original, but within 10 minutes max it's practically indistinguishable.

So it's a good perfume but redundant.

milamrvi

a man walking in the woods, collecting wood for his bonfire, the soil he walks on is rich and damp. that's what it smells like. damp earth and wood and smoke. this is insanely sexy to me. performance isn't that great, it becomes an intimate skin scent in 2-3 hours, but it's worth it. spray some on your clothes, it will perform better. for the broody and mysterious!!

yasin1noor

Awesome. It smells like the damp soil of a dark woody forest. At first spray I wasn’t sure I was gonna like it because of how dark and melancholic it is. I started to get addicted to it’s sappy, resinous smell. I will say the scent isn’t very long lasting, however, I’ve gotten a few compliments so it must be projecting decently I guess.
I’m definitely a fan. This gives me black lipstick, witchcraft, creatures of the night vibes. Definitely holds a mystical aura. Wear it with confidence.

Yalishanxiao

I love Encre Noire the original, but this L'Extreme is just toooo bitter. I like perfume to have a bit sweetness, but this has zero. Definitely not for me.

frankcrummit

Vetiver, vetiver, vetiver, plus a teeny bit of incense that relieves the dryness and lifts an otherwise bland fragrance into the company of the greats.

Glue

On my skin I mostly get citruses and piney notes, the wood and incense are more in the background. The fragrance doesn't really change much, for me it smells the same from the beginning until it's gone which is fine as I like it overall.
I would say the longevity is not very good...4, maybe 5 hours of average performance and then it's pretty much gone. Disappointing longevity for an EDP but on the other hand you can pick it up for ~20eur which is dirt cheap for a fragrance like this one so you can go crazy with extra sprays.
I think it's very versatile fragrance, some people may not like it but it's not offensive in any way. I know almost everyone says here it's for fall/winter but I'm gonna give it a try in the summer too considering it smells rather citrusy fresh on my skin.
It reminds me of Cerruti 1881 for men, just made "darker" and smoky.

7/10 overall. It was a blind buy for me and I'm happy with it.

Hails_Hail

I must have received part of a bad batch. Mine smells like burning peanuts. I have 3 other Vetiver centric frags & none smell like peanuts.

capitanokook

honestly i can't understand if the encre noire a l'extreme i've got is the same some of the reviewers have. it lasts forever and it projects at least up to 6-6.5 feet. its strong, sophisticated, mysterious, is somehow amazing with cigarette smoke. i cant stop wearing it during winter. its my go to obviously. night, rain, solitude, a negroni, a rothmans cigarette. just perfect. also, very VERY cheap. i think i bought a 3.3 oz for 30 bucks. just brilliant value.

A.Brock

Excellent smooth and elegant vetiver. Some sweetness, very woody and masculine. Great quality for the price.

Advatra

It's pretty straightforward everything listed in the note description plus Vertofix, Norlimbanol, Cashmeran, and some cedars, also, it's another entry in the 50% IES club.

I’ll never know another like you. Encre Noire À L’extrême je t’aime.

Not for everyone, but in the right mood, under the right light, with the right people at the wrong time. You’ll go blind and fall in.

ColoradoCouloir

These poetic reviews below understood the assignment. I could never…
I don’t wear this often, yet I never regret when I do. My only regret is that didn’t have this have one sooner to wear while mourning lost loves as I wonder the damp evening streets alone after an early autumn snow. While the EDT is somber, serious and aloof; this EDP is more vulnerable and intensely melancholic. If Ombre Noir is the exciting romantic beginnings, then A L'Extreme is the long weeks after the affair. You’ve picked up the pieces but you’ll never truly recover what was lost. After a short few hours the scent leaves you signaling it’s time to let go and move on.

Alternatively this great to wear while running errands.

Really wish it lasted longer.

conrdcl

Resinous, mildy sweet and melancholic.
Like fondness growing from disdain,
Cold, wet yet still an inviting warm embrace,
It felt like hating someone, so much so that it made you remember that in the end, you loved.

Projection 5/10 (Use Petroleum)
Longetivity 3/10 (Need to respray after about 4 hours, love all the notes but the projection painfully dies on the dry down)
Scent: 10/10
Price: 8.5/10 (For the quality? Dirt Cheap, but the original price is worth it)

I am gatekeeping this, but if you are wearing this, please hug me.

LeDop

it works really well on clothes.

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore. I can't help but recite this in my mind every time I spray this on. It's dark mysterious thick and velvety. It conjures forgotten romance cold nights gazing at the full moon.
There's a earthy boozy opening. That effortlessly morphs into spices and woods that dance together. This is an intimate sent so unless someone is close to you don't expect too many complaints or complaints. So wear it with confidence.

Scent: 9/10
Longevity: 2/10
Projection: 1/10
Presentation: 8/10
Overall value: 6/10

This is a beautiful woody fragrance which would be great to wear on those rainy Autumn evenings, but even though cheap, it's ultimately not worth the money due to it's simply non-existent performance.

Doesn't last on skin, doesn't last on clothes. On a good day, you'll get 2 hours out of it at the very most. This is an EDP with the longevity of hand soap.

Still, the scent profile is intriguing. Get a small decant if you can, because it is worth smelling at least once. Only buy a bottle if you want to add it to your collection as a novelty. It doesn't work as a normal fragrance to enjoy wearing on yourself. I spray it on my wrist at night whilst watching Cadfael and enjoy sniffing it off my wrist for 30 minutes before it disappears.

Deekerr16

There is a bit of debate to whether this or the original Encre Noir has better performance. With the extra depth in this formulation, it just seems a lot more noticeable (and for longer) - the sharpness of the original can also make it easy to go noseblind to it. It's still a very sharp, dirty, and piercing woody scent. But now with a more mossy and sweet layer underneath. Not bad quality, but I think many people will underestimate how tough to love these fragrances are. It's great value for money, but it's not necessarily a great addition to a cheapie collection. Very gothic scent. Much better to test on skin than on paper or in the air to give it an honest shot.

#367 in my "Tour de Fragrance"

As sometimes happens, this flanker is better than the original. I tried out an Encre Noir sample six months ago and gave it a passing grade, but found it a high quality but boring fragrance and didn't like it enough to order a bottle. The formulation of the A L'Extreme version seemed much more my style with the addition of the patchouli, incense and amber, so I took the chance and ordered as $30 was no big risk. I would have preferred to keep the musk of the original, but everything else going on with this fragrance is very unique and interesting, with the same very outdoorsy scent I get walking in the woods around Lake Pine. It's a solid performer, certainly worth the price, so for me a keeper and I think a safe blind buy for most anyone. I also think it's very easily a unisex fragrance. It should be fine in the office, carpool, elevator used in moderation. A good date scent. For cooler weather.

PerfumeUser2023

Smokey, woody, harsh, not complex.
I really can' t fetch any other notes, other than maybe a bit of spiciness, and it' s OK.

I use it for cold weather, winter. On my clothes (jacket or neckerchief) .

Projection- big in the first hour or so.
It lasts on my skin for around 2 hours. On the clothes a bit over 4h.

It' s a dark woody smell with little to no complexity, for winter, but not the classic oily dark vintage smell.

Anastasia.A

Take the original, lower the citrusy notes, add patchouli and you have the extreme. The original encre noire and the sport flanker are very similar, but this is different, the addition of patchouli makes it very different. I like patchouli, so I like it. 8/10

Knightofsorrow

In testing Encre noir vs Encre noir a l'extreme, i realused why its extreme. Its darker, deeper, heavier. The longevity or sillage is not better, but the smell is mae darker. If Encre noir is smell of conifer forest in november, after the rain, with earth smell, than extreme is all that but smelling it through a cotage with disfunctional chimney after cooking spiced wine...

RajahSaheb

I thought it'd be "better" than Encre Noire Sport but nope. I get the smoky vetiver initially, something green but hard to identify as cypress, which after a while simply culminates in a cool, sweet, comfortable drydown. Nothing remotely "extreme" here. Longevity is moderate and sillage slightly below average.

A couple sidenotes:
- I'd rate Ombre Noire nicer than this, which also provides the added benefit of better longevity & sillage;
- I prefer the balance & versatility that Encre Noir Sport provides and it does what it says on the label.

Richarddanny83

Smell salty juicy citrus. Like a caramel or honey sweetness. Maybe the sweetness come from benzoin. Brown woody vetiver.

NEONinitial

i only tried the original before i blind bought this. i got this version because i thought i might prefer it based on the notes, so i was very glad to find out that i was right. the added nuances make it feel even more dark, heavy, and masculine while still holding onto everything i liked about the original. i wore this while rifling through a lumber pile and patching a fence the other day, and let me tell you it was the perfect choice. i felt so much like a lumberjack i probably wouldve done a worse job if i wasnt wearing it

mittarkreddy

PURE VETIVER BOMB.

An enchanting vetiver fragrance, despite its name "noir," doesn't possess an overly heavy or intense aroma. I think it's versatile enough to be comfortably worn even during the summer months. It offers excellent value for the price, with a decent but not exceptional longevity. To maintain its scent throughout the day, it's advisable to carry a decant and reapply as needed.

NiTrOz

(I read ppl saying it has bad longevity, can it be different Batches/Fatigue?)
Sad to hear tho :/
My rewiew: Can´t stop sniffing my arm when I wear it :D It´s an absolute TOP 1of3 favorite frag ever with great longevity ~12 hours on my skin, on clothes and hair it´s atleast 20h and with quite strong but smooth sillage. Drydown is >super-duper< nice. The sillage gets u over and over, lovely! much more going on here than the og EN. Love the og also tho, sharper, more punch!

To describe the feeling when I put it on:
You´re a Lumberjack and heading deep into the northen Scandinavian dense forests. It´s an Autumn day (around 10 degree C) and the air is a bit foggy and the Moss is damp. You find some fine Pine trees, Fir trees and also some Birch trees nearby and start chopping them up with both your Chainsaw and your Axe. Your gloves gets sticky with Pine resin. The damp, fresh and woody smell from those newly chopped trees and branches, also some tiny hints of the exhaust smell from the Chainsaw..... that´s what this fragrance is for me. Atleast in the 3h opening.

For me it isn´t superdark as many ppl say. In this its just fresh Woodsy notes in perfect harmony with Resin, Orris and Cypress and ofc heavy Vetiver based. And this frag also has a huge amount of sophisticated Elegance, compaired to the OG. They are really similar in the first hour or two tho.
It´s a pretty unique smelling fragrance and it might not be for everyones taste.
Well done by Lalique :D It´s expensive smelling. Getting some slight similarity to Nasomatto Pardon which isn´t bad at all :D . You could rock this in many different situations, also nice dressed up ofc. I would wear this (M45) almost all year around I guess but mostly for myself to enjoy others may like it or not.

Smell 9,4/10 (would give it a 10 if it evolved more and more :D)
Longevity 9/10
Sillage 8,2/10
Versatility 7/10
Uniqueness: 8.5/10
Value and Quality 12/10

AUyliong

Starts off with something that I've smelt in a hospital before...like a medical equipment of some kind that I can't place. It disappears though as the frag dries down and it quickly returns to a slightly brighter and pepperier version of the orig Encre Noir's addictive and intoxicating leather shoe and shoe polish scent.

I believe that brighter and pepperier effect is coming from the vetiver which is well blended here and doesn't come off as grassy like it does in D&G Light Blue for Women Intense or Terre D'Hermès Eau Intense Vetiver.

woomanmoomin

Love, love the original. Not sure what I make of this one. To me the initial resin smells kind of green and toppy and perhaps borderline nauseating--oh, OK then, just sickly. It's almost as if a resin that should have been left on the scored bark of its tree to mature, darken and mellow prior to the harvest has been picked off prematurely and therefore remains green, raw, unruly. (Perhaps the orris makes for some fluffiness that exacerbates the sickliness, too.) This is like a very bright sap whereas my preference is probably for something darker and, to me, more opulent-smelling and sultry. Being bright and somewhat citric (lemony), the resin here also imparts what I experience as a slight metallic characteristic. I have to say that sickly, metallic and woody is not an accord combination I particularly crave. It's not a deal-breaker and perhaps something will change as the fragrance rests between outings.

Edit: I see that some people perceive an oud accord in this. I do not. Incense? Yes. Wood resin-resinous, woody, woody woodness? Sure. Oud? Even synthetic oud? Synthetic oud as tame as a neutered lap dog 🐶? Nope. No. NO.

sniffV

Great fragrance but the longevity is terrible.

SpiderMarc

It’s growing on me, certainly a woody sandalwood and very earthy vetiver scent. I still think I’m getting some hints of ‘new leather’ scent… though it’s not listed in the notes.

I definitely like it, just not sure if I love it. I hope it continues to grow on me. I don’t find it a spring summer scent though, for spring & summer time, I’ll switch to
Encre Noire Sport, for the burst of freshness!

Lalique produces such lovely fragrances and mostly are at reasonably affordable prices.

eXp3r1m3n7aLs

Here is a powerful vetiver, helped by resins and patchouli. These are the essential elements.
The quality is very good, compared to the price.

joao_filipe37

alan_hawler

Unique, long lasting, and affordable perfume.

Denis___K

The very best piece of wood in my collection, - so noble, so elegant and beautiful, this fragrance is a masterpiece. And indeed, it's a niche perfume with an absurdly low price tag. I know oh so many perfumes that cost 250 or 300 or 400 euros, and they're nothing in comparision to this. I just can't understand how anyone can hate it ))

Ali Polat

İf you want a high quality niche perfume for maximum 30 dollars , you're right hier.
Neverly sweet but aromatic, dark, muscy, ambery, incensy with very fine cypress notes. I smell hier very nice oud but don't found in the votes.
If you love the scent of Dior homme parfum, Moresque Ubar or V Canto Alibi, you can buy this one.
For my opinion, it is a must have for any collection.
Dont forget, it's a very nichy perfume with high concentration, that's why don't prefer a blind buy!

Vivid Laser Eye Gawd

1 of my all time favorites! Smells like Dr. Pepper in a wooden barrel with incense burning in the distance! Last all day and projects.

W0rmw00d

Very pleasant Incense and Woody smell, the people saying this smells weird are wrong. I just got it but I notice the projection and sillage aren't too well, or this scent is very easy to get noseblind to.

Bicr

Hmmm, blind buy and upon spray I am taken back to the 80s and hot rods- burning rubber. Yep, this immediately smells of burnt rubber... I will have to give this a try another day- today, this does not smell pleasant.. I love Iris, but it must have been lost somewhere..
** Update- after a couple weeks- it is growing on me- The dry down is where it shines and the hints of Orris/ Iris.. The rubber smell seems to be dissipating with a little time..

Hahaperfumeguy

I love the scent but it really doesn’t last or project maybe a batch issue.

NathanaelG

I expected to love this fragrance due to the description and almost universally rave reviews everywhere I read about it. But unfortunately this one was not for me. The opening is nice, but a few seconds in and something about this fragrance made me feel ill. When I smell it I get a lump in the back of my throat like I’m trying not to gag, it’s a very physical reaction. It’s a dark, wet, fragrance. I thought it would smell of damp earth and wood, and it sort of does, but there is just something about it that turns my stomach. I tried it again a few days after the initial test and had the same reaction, I lasted about 45 minutes before and I had to scrub.

lukaspriest

I just blind bought this fragrance, and I have never tried the original or the sport version. I think this stuff smells absolutely incredible. I cannot wait for the weather to get colder so I can wear this stuff to work. It's so, so good.

dokei

I bought it blindly, as one of the first perfumes in my collection. My first non designer perfume. Easily describable as pleasant wood. Realistic wood.

It lasts quite a bit, doesnt project a lot but nevertheless for the cost as a daily fragrance you get an amazing scent.

So the scent profile isnt anything amazing, its a realistic woody smell, "decorated" with some bergamot and incense that add a bit of sweetness (that in no way makes it a sweet fragrance though, its just an addition to make the fragrance a bit more bearable). The opening lasts for about 30seconds, afterwards its pretty linear dark wood. Not much to be said. Dont listen to anyone saying this smells like a urinal cake because that is not the case, its actually quite nice. Its just bland and not special. An overall 7/10 linear, predictable and serious.

You can daily this, just in the winter and fall only. Not an office perfume at all. Maybe Uni or a caffe, definitely a night out w friends. Depending on what youre into. Definitely buy it. Youll find yourself reaching for it, especially fall.

Caesar's Legion

This is a great Earthy Incense scent. Some have said Oud is in this . I don't see it as a listed note. Maybe it's the Orris Root they smell. Overall an excellent scent.
The Vetiver is also noticable. Lalique Encre Noire A L'Extreme is also not that expensive. It does have a deep and dark resinous quality to it.

If this smell is too much for you then try Lalique Ombre Noire. That's another excellent scent.

This used to be a favourite of mine. Not anymore.
Starts out with strong wood and a hint of smoke. Burnt Vetiver. Perfect.

However...
after an hour or so, a stinky furry mammal comes out to play and secretes all over this beautiful piece of wood.
It could still work, but perhaps only on clothing and in sub-zero temperatures.

Issey Miyake L'eau D'issey Intense + Bentley for Men Intense = Encre Noire A L'Extreme. Benzoin, incense, and bergamot are exactly the same as issey miyake intense. In addition, I feel the rum note, which gives a bit of lipstick smell like in Bentley for men Intense.

RelaxItsTax

This was a HUGE blind buy win for me! I was actually looking to buy the regular encre noir but it happened to be out of stock at that time. So I opted for the Extreme. What a happy accident. So I have family that live in the Dominican Republic. Casa de Campo to be exact. The resort there have these suites that all have a certain scent to them. In my younger years I never knew what it was. I just knew that it was pleasant and always reminded me of my family and my time in the country. THIS! This is that scent in a bottle. I would later understand that "the scent" is called Vetiver and would come to love this scent in my fragrance journey. Now that being said it isn't for everyone. But it is for me. And for my nose you can't get any better example of Vetiver than this.

KopaneDePooj

Just blind-bought this / opened the box and sprayed for the first time with great anxiety about the challenging / polarizing aspects described in reviews/videos/comments/impressions that filled my brain.

Armed the atomizer, sprayed two times on my wrist and gently approached my nose in anticipation...

Nothing challenging... Nothing too strong, actually the first impression was that this is very weak, I couldn't smell much intensity but I liked very much what I smelled. Gave it another spray. - Better.

First impression - all my fears vanished, I like it a lot, and I find nothing that might be polarizing, offensive or overpowering. Just a very very nice fall/winter/spring - vetiver/woody/slightly resinous smell that for me fits any occasion. Very slight sweetness to it compared to most other similar perfumes - which is actually a refreshing aspect and confers the "darkness" that everyone talks about. I agree - it is dark.

I had "Zadig and Voltaire - This Is Him" - the original black bottle that I think was more incensy and heavy than this although it had more sweetness from vanilla. This is so much smoother.

Frankly I expected something much stronger and projecting. It seems it sits close to the skin, but maybe I need more time with it. C0A23 batch - January 2023

I recently made a BIG mistake by returning Guerlain Vetiver in the new square bottle that I got for a great price, because I thought it is too weak, now I'm looking for the old "listerine" bottle and can't find it anywhere to buy... I wish I hadn't return the square bottle... :(

The original Lalique Encre Noire was one of the most avant-garde fragrances of its time, nobody had created something like that before. It is a bold work in perfumery ... Defenitely a niche quality, a fragrance like this could be in a niche bottle and sell for a much more expensive price!? It is not for beginners though. If you are new to this hobby, this may not work for you

Bronstet

* Incredibly complex and warm blend of oud, vetiver, mint, powder, musk, incense and sandalwood
* Niche level of quality at a discounter price
* Very affordable
* Beautiful for the cooler weather seasons
* Very strong performance

* Not unisex
* Not suitable for younger users
* Oud is still a polarizing aroma for some
* Very underrated

Lalique's Encre Noire A L'Extreme ("To the extreme") is both aptly named and understated at the same time. Straight up: this is SUPERB quality for the price. It's a niche level cologne for a discounter price. The only other cologne I'd place on the same level is Bentley For Men Intense which I also recommend. Encre Noire A L'Extreme punches WAY way above its affordable price point.

This is a wood forward fragrance with a complex and warm blend of oud, vetiver (grass), mint, powder and musk (patchouli), incense, and sandalwood. It has an incredibly strong performance with great longevity, projection and sillage.

All this said, the oud note is going to make this very polarizing for some, especially in North America. It's a very masculine cologne and is definitely not unisex. It also leans older and would not be appropriate for younger users. It's great for cooler weather, dates, outdoor activities and formal occasions.

WOW!

Just purchased a bottle of this given all the good reviews and it does indeed smell like a quality fragrance! It’s divine. Not the strongest projection wise which I actually favour given this is a very dry fragrance. Very gothic! I love a smoky fragrance and I really am pleasantly surprised!

If I were told this is a £320 bottle of Amouage then I’d believe without any suspicion! Smoky, woody and like walking through a forest. This really is divine!

FreddieB4Life

Niche quality, for a very low price. Smells like something TF would come out with.

flashpapas

Unique smoky vetiver.

Wore this to a friend house laid on the bed, she called me the next day telling me her sheets smelt of me in the morning.

JoshSmells

Love this. So so unique. Opening evokes memories of walking through the damp forest. The dry down evokes memories of sniffing freshly cut red cedar logs. Super nostalgic for me. If you like woody fragrances and are just looking for something unique I would say it's a safe blind buy but if you like sweet fragrances definitely not, as it has next to no sweetness at all. It's fairly light and the scents this gives are not necessarily exclusive to colder weather but as a fragrance I would not wear it in anything but fall or winter or maybe cooler spring/summer nights. My biggest negative is that for some reason I go noseblind to this one much faster and more often than other fragrances.

Smells really really really good but I struggle to detect it after a couple of hours. I hope that I'm just going nose blind but I think performance is not the best. A real shame as the scent is fantastic. Masculine, refined, ambery, smoky.

My most complimented fragrance ever. The day they dicontinue it, i ll never wear fragrance again. This is EPIC.

Usually put it on whenever I’m playing horror games or watching a scary film lol, I prefer the original but this flanker does smell more like a polished mahogany wood, it is pleasant but you have to be in the mood for it. Would remind you of a library in a manor on a stormy night

willh0p

Compared to the original it is a little boring, it has all the parts that make Encre Noire so great but feels a lot more generic. I bought this by accident but I will probably get through it.

Orangeboom999

Grrrrrr manly

Raff8

This perfume is more fresh than dark..has 2 main accords..vetiver and cypress..with a cynthetic vibe..good for 4-5 hours..where it really shines is if you use it with conjunction with heavier/darker perfume oils..i use oud combodi first ..then layer it with this..i get a very long lasting perfume and silage..i cannot tolerate pure oud combodi..but layering with it makes oudi combodi much wearable for me..and makes it a much more complex perfume..

CoachSignature88

This is a very good scent. I was a little worried about buying this based on the reviews but I really don’t think it’s that challenging. Yeah moreso than your average designer fragrance but it’s moreso an olfactory experience. It’s smells good in the way that fresh cut grass smells good. Or the addictive nature of gasoline or the Musky smell of your basement or garage. Or like some really high quality skunky weed lol. This scent is for someone looking to smell something a little out of the norm. Perhaps you’ve built up quite a collection of average daily wear frags and are ready to test your nose a little more. I think for the price on discounters it’s 1000 percent worth the blind buy. Do not fear this stuff! It’s very good. Lasts quite awhile on skin too. Would be ideal to wear in the fall. I also recommend Ombre noire. I believe that is more challenging than this personally. At first it smelt like an Indian restaurant but after third wearing my nose matured and now it’s a love for me! These frags from Lalique are a great way to get into more challenging niche scents and mature that nose without breaking the bank. And they are discontinued and the price will only go up over time. I’m very pleased with this at a 9/10. Beautiful olfactory experience! 👏

This is a very unique scent. I can see why it’s so highly rated, but it just isn’t my cup of tea. This fragrance lacks versatility. I frankly don’t know when it would be appropriate to wear this. I love both of the other Encre Noires - the original and sport. I sold this on to someone else. Just doesn’t work for me or my collection. It’s just too strange of a scent.

microcastle

generic synth wood whittled to a fine point, very efficient for headache production. stabbed me right thru the nose

pntmasta

Tried two sprays on the left wrist, very good first impressions including arm length projection with pleasant manly notes and later eternal longevity.
However the closer i’d move my nose to the sprayed part the more i could detect an annoying penetrating synthetic note that’d give a slight dizziness/headache. Right now while remembering how it smelled like, i get a similar unpleasant feeling. Also i found it to be too sweet for myself and for my wife. She hated it from close distance but loved it from a few feet away. I initially gave it an 8/10 but i think its closer to 7/10. Cant help but detect these cheap annoying chemicals in it.
Will soon try the original EN, hope i wont get an aneurysm from it😅

doodluv

Biggest difference between it and the original is in the opening 15-20mins when the incense and orris are most prominent.

Honestly though, after it dries down a bit all your left with is a slightly spicier Encre Noir with the exact same vetiver drydown that you already know.

It's a tiny bit better because of that spicy kick which makes it less one dimensional and linear than the original, but it's not worlds apart. If you like the OG you'll like this.

It does come off as 'thicker' and 'darker' though, so a bit less versatile and more difficult to wear than Encre Noir (and indeed Encre Noir Sport). Strictly colder/forecast weather for this one.

Giving this a wear tomorrow...only because I don't want to use up my OG bottle of Encre Noire.

georgi.nedelchev

Great value for money. Woody, vetiverish, bitter and classy. Excellent for an eldre man.

Yashar_is_here

The only thing I can say is, this is a more complex version of the original encre noir, not for everyone. DO NOT BLIND-BUY THIS PERFUME. woody, earthy, and vetiver based with a very nice Balsamic feeling to it.And Of course, it has the Natalie Lorson signature and vibe to it.TBH, for this price, you simply cannot find something more classy and elegant.

Absolutely nothing like, in any way shape of form (except the bottle!) Encre Noire. This is the popular younger brother to the refined statesman and I really don't get the name L'Extreme, as there's nothing particularly extreme about it. Perhaps I am biased here as I'm not a particular fan of resinous fragrances, much preferring the more natural green, herby and floral scent profiles. It's cheap enough to buy and be disappointed in, so if you want your Encre Noire bottle to be flanked with two other good looking but less substantial relatives, get Sport and L'Extreme, but don't expect either to have any real connections to the original scent profile.

Strelyat

Probably the best fragrance that you can get for that price tag!

Bertes

This is much more wearable and complex than the original EN. I can imagine wearing it in the colder months as an older man. If you've read the reviews and think "oh I'm mature enough", probably not. It is for 30-40+ age group.

The smell is high quality and complex, dark masculin and mysterieuse, but there is something funky about it, like rotten fruit. Imagine the fallen leaves in autumn. It's unique, natural, earthy but pretty hard to wear.

Beautifully blended and high quality, but not for me.

FiveOfCups

Can't for the life of me figure out how this scent is considered a dark fragrance. Cypress that smells like 80s white rain and instantly transports me back to that time and then a dusty vetiver comes out of the shadow smokey but not incense that isn't strong.. by the time you try to accept the scent it's already gone, much like the original. Was hoping for a stronger scent but for the price I don't mine reapplying. Laughable to see patchouli in the scent profile as it is completely non-existent. Notes, to me are vetiver and aresol hairspray but in a sort of okay way?

Four seasons of vetiver:

Winter - EN L'Extreme
Spring - Montale Red Vetiver
Summer - ADP Colonia Futura
Fall - TDH Parfum

bil00l

This is probably my favourite or one of my favourite perfumes in my humble collection.
At first I get a really pleasant and strong wood smell, followed shortly after by a slightly chocolatey and nutty smell (idk if anyone else gets that). It's very rich and luxury smelling and considering it's only £30, it's also amazing value. I'd only wear this on occasion, to a wedding or to a dinner, it's not for every day (at least I think that).
Another thing to note is that the smell is very unique so I definitely do not recommend blind buying this fragrance, make sure you smell it before you buy it.

FrgaranceMadMan

A true cheapie gem! I got this for £20, performance and quality are value for money. I like the og that is not for everyone. This one is a lot smoother, still has a dark but fresher vibe, some would say more appealing than the og. If you like mass appealing scents possibly avoid this. Some in the fragrance community love this, I can understand why.

One word to describe this GEM!

Detman101

@Cameroff: I have had the same exact experience as you with my bottle and it's been close to a year. The notes haven't changed and I also get the soapy smell at drydown that @Kencaovn gets.
I only wear my bottle of the Original "Encre Noire"...I don't reach for this one at all.
I don't even experiment with this one because I have zero use for dead-flat Vetiver and soapy-sappy Cypress in any fragrance I make.

If it weren't for the beautiful looking bottle and juice...I would have put this in the donation bin months ago.

kencaovn

Overall, attractive woody, incense scent with soft spicy and great to have. This smells wonderful in a cold day. However, there's a soapy smell when it starts drying down?

Cameroff

I got this a couple of weeks ago because I like woods, and I like vetiver, and I fucking LOVE incense.

No incense. No benzoin. No sandalwood. No patchouli. No orris. No elemi. No bergamot.

I cannot pick out anything but vetiver and a splash of cypress. This smells 100% identical to the OG, except it is somehow dustier and less fresh. I've tried it on my skin, a tester, and clothes, and there is no complexity. It is literally two notes, no matter where I apply it or how long I wait.

I'm holding out hope that this will mature and express some amber or resinous balsamic qualities.

For now, though, this is a linear vetiver. Extremely uncomplex and molecule-esque. I will write another review if this changes over the summer.

BernardF

Beautiful. Simply beautiful.

raeseo2000

Masc, smokey, powdery vetiver. Little bit of a citrus in the opening. A bit of cypressy wood and resinous incense. Has a somewhat interesting quality but probably won't offend most people. Was told it has a wee sillage, which I love. Dark but not musky so it smells nice on fresh out of the shower skin! Much better fully dry tho, very creamy & lasts a good 8+ hours.

Liking it the more I try it. One of those things you'd gift your male partner, but end up getting greedy and stealing back for yourself, haha!

alexxf35

This is one of the best values in modern fragrance, period. 30-35 bucks for the juice, easily could pass for a niche scent at 4-5x+ the price.

However, this is definitely not a mass pleaser. Very dark and earthy w/ almost zero sweetness...almost the opposite of all the fresh / citrus blue scents that dominate the market. I very much enjoy it myself, smells like the woods in England after a rainfall and you just grabbed a piece of wood off the damp ground. Beware of using this as a going out or date night scent though.

mbatakuclinton

This is a good scent with good Longitivity and moderate projection. Reminds me of my childhood the smell of grandpa
the scent quality is very great and doesn't smell like the price in any way.

My5Scents

It’s a cold, grey, wet miserable day here in North Yorkshire in the UK. My spirits are very low, for various reasons I’m feeling quite depressed.
I give myself a generous few sprays of Encre Noire a L’Extreme, it is always the absolute perfect choice for days like this, there’s something, deeply solemn and moody, yet remarkably grounding about it. Almost immediately I feel a sense of acceptance with how things are and stop struggling with myself. I become centred.
Admittedly, it is not a joyful, jubilant composition but it contains a beautiful, compelling darkness, which is paradoxically calming and soothing in dark times.
There’s no other fragrance like it.

EritErit

I've owned this for many many years, It's my favorite perfume.

It's up the alley of old classics like Terre D'Hermes, the main smell in this is Iso E Super, followed by Haitian Vetiver, Habanolide, Patchouli, Olibanum and Pepper/Cypress Combo.

heltorn

A more sophisticated version of the orignal Encre Noir, a little bit different, more wearable beast. Fresh notes added here, the smell is soften, the sillage is soften too. With the moderate, around 4-5 hours longevity on my skin, it dries down nicely with the distinctive DNA of the main perfume but with fresher patchouli tones. At a point it really gives an impression that it's Ancre Noir mixed with Terre d'Hermes.
A very good turn is that this one could be worn day and night occasions, probably all year long, excluding just a few very hot days.

Palosanto

EN a L'Extreme is wonderful: vetiver, cypress, resins and incense with something very slightly powdery and minimally sweet at the base that brings everything into balance. It is manly and well thought out, the kind of thing that -to me- you would like to wear with a brown sport jacket on an autumn afternoon. It seems to last and project decently. I would not say it is "extreme", though. It is the congenial brother of the fantastic (but more intriguing, reserved, formal and severe) EN. Great flanker and great fragrance overall.

Sketlington

I blind bought this a few days ago and initially wasn’t impressed. I have to say it’s growing on me. I’m still not the biggest fan but I’m getting there. Initially it smells bitter yet Smokey almost like you’ve thrown a ton of leaves on a bonfire, it then becomes slightly peppery with that same leafy bonfire smell, after a couple hours it dries down to a Smokey sandalwood. It reminds me of my days as a scout (dib dib) all in all, I think I need to get used to it but so far not bad.

zachyl

nothing like i anticipated. the name describes the scent perfectly: wearing this is like watching a neo-noir film. it's dark yet profound, not fun or lighthearted at all. incredible but definitely takes a while to get used to.

StaticCentreHalf

Vetiver and cypress combine to make this a great office/everyday scent and, other than in very hot weather (I'm a Brit so that means anything over 20°c), it's wearable all year round. Performance isn't great but at this price one can afford to apply liberally. I've also discovered that layering with Creed Aventus (or one of the many clones) takes things to another level. You're welcome.

BlackAdderLXX

I am so glad I didn't blind buy this but got a sample. This is one of a very few fragrances I have immediately hated. Harsh, chemical smell on the opening, and dry down was no better. I hung in there for a hour but washed it off after. Absolutely terrible fragrance.

segamaw

A very unique scent!

Sam96438

I would like this a lot more if it wasn't for the aggressively medicinal cypress/pine opening. I imagine finding a cypress tree and rolling in the needles, and accompanying dirt, that have recently fallen and built up around the base of the tree.
It does however calm down after an hour or so to reveal a nicely blended, high quality, deep smoky vetiver scent with the orris and resins playing a big part.
But maaaan that opening is challenging for me. It just feels like the cypress clashes too much with the creamyish facets of the sandalwood and orris.

mrperq

Ok, this smells nothing like I expected it to smell. I was kinda afraid this would be offensive, unlikable. I was also expecting it to be dark, brooding, gothic, mysterious, depressing. Both made me question if this would be of any use to me. The first, because what use is a fragrance people hate you wearing, even when wearing it for yourself? The second because, well I’m quite vulnerable to the winter bleus, and reading all those reviews it pretty much sounded like this would make them even worse. Like there’s some music I can’t listen to when moody. (I’m looking at you ‘The Cry Of Mankind’.) I assumed this smell would do the same.

That said, in my younger years I was pretty big into metal, the more gothic, darker and forestry kinds. I’ve since outgrown the style, but retained a liking for the music and general atmosphere. This part is what made me pull the trigger and blindbuy this. And, I’m happy I did.

This is not dark, nor offensive. Its that what you’re after, maybe get fahrenheit or something. That ‘ll make you smell like dangerous and rebellious. Or get Man in Black or Spicebomb. This however, will make you smell like a gentlemen.

On first sniff, this did smell very confusing to me though. Like I didn’t know if I liked it, or if it was something I’d never want to wear. Like not ‘this smells okay but not great’. Like ‘I like this and would never wear this at the same time’. Today is my second wear and I’m cured from the dislike. This is a love. Probably not the first thing you should get, but if you’re a bit bored of your usual dna, this is a pretty great thing to expand your horizon with.

It was freezing when I first smelled this though, and it is raining today, which does seem to compliment this fragrance much much more. I think this is only for fall-like weather. Not winter.

In the top you quite quickly get the vetiver on a bed of smoke and incense. Vetiver is a note hard to describe, and rare enough that its hard to draw similarities to other fragrances. This is probably part of the reason why most reviews give such a off impression of the fragrance (probably including mine).

To me vetiver smells like dry white woods, like ceder, with a leathery accent. Like there might be some hints of rain (not in the aquatic way), but the woods are dry. First sniff this reminded me of bently for men intense, but smelling them side by side, while in the very broad ballpark of scent family, they smell entirely different and my scent memory was deceiving me. Might be there’s some vetiver in the bently’s leather accord though. But to make my point, to me, vetiver smells that leathery. Like if you primed me by telling me this smells like leather, I’d have accepted it and wood would probably never have even entered my mind.

I do prefer this over bently for men intense by far though. It performs much better too.

In the drydown it melds more and becomes smoother, smokier more ambery. This smells good, like really good.

TLDR:
- Does not smell anything like what reviews would make you think it does.
- Probably not your best first buy, but might be good if you want to experience something new and unique.
- Might need to grow on you. But it certainly did on me, and its absolutely addictive now.
- Fall weather only.

Love, love, LOVE this fragrance. I don't know why it's rated to be geared towards the evening so heavily over the day, I find it so rejuvenating spraying this on to get the day started with some outdoorsy activity. This smell complements mowing a lawn or chopping wood so well, it's an intense lumberjack kind of scent. I'd recommend it up until temperatures outdoors start overtaking room temperature by a few centigrade. Surely it's too intense to wear to a summer BBQ or a day at the office, but for other occasions, go ahead! Just beware the first half hour is the most intense, I'd leave the room after spraying to let it dissipate - which is another reason why I recommend getting out there and doing some outdoorsy activity right after(: For the price I can't recommend it enough, and if my description suits your interests then a blind buy should not disappoint!

Nbebis

I know the general opinion is that this leans masculine, but I really think it's a great unisex fragrance! However, this is subjective so to each their own. This fragrance smells so natural, earthy vetiver that has just been caught in a rainstorm. Very unique and professional!

M!KE

Had 2 bottles of it (2015, 2016), and was recently testing newer batch (2022) and I learned my lesson.
If you've checked those batches freshly after launch, and you compare to what you can buy now you will be disappointed.
The scent is still great (especially in a first 2 hours), but after that time it becomes sour and quiet.
Really, really quiet.
To the point that people don't know whether you used an aftershave or simply had Molton Brown shower gel.
Hence if you've experienced that afer release, and you know it could last longer and project more, don't bother.

ChezdeParfums

A scent worthy of its incredible presentation. Zero sweetness is to be found in this deep, damp, earthy release. The smokey patchouli dry down is especially beautiful. You can get it for a song, but you’d never guess by smelling it.

jaquie223

Much more approachable than the original EN. The original smells too wet for me idk how else to describe it. Like damp basement darkness. This version dials back the dampness and adds some incense and resins that make this more of a crowd pleaser. A very nice, classy and dark vetiver fragrance that well outperforms its price. It is work appropriate if you wear it lightly. I do one spray at the base of the neck and that's it. A cool weather fragrance but I could see someone wearing this lightly in the spring and a cooler summer day without issue. We will see once the weather turns.

epseja

Initial misting is a bit aggressive with sharp citrus, alcohol, and soapy pine sap. Dries down quickly to bring out the incense, subtle vetiver and prominent powder-flower Orris notes. Nice, but nothing super exciting at this point. After an hour or so however, the cozy elements come to the front, rounding out its profile to a sublime balance of freshness, earthiness, woodiness, and subtle spice. This scent's final form alone makes it a great value. It's just a shame that by the time it gets to that final state, its already lost much of its staying power.

hpeti

A very dark and strong smell, too woody for me but it's a good one for those who love that.

JayDillen

This is actually the least unique of the three. It smells very similar to Bvlgari man in black. It has a burnt rubber accord like that one and also like Varvatos dark rebel. It also is in the same wheelhouse as many other boozy leathery frags such as Bentley Intense which it also smells like. sadly I don't get a prominent vetiver note which is a disappointment just like the edt. The sport actually has the most distinct vetiver note so if you're a vetiver fan you'll probably appreciate that one the most. I think this one has more vetiver noticeable than the edt, but it's still somewhat hidden in the blend

This is much more sexy than the edt, however it's a little too smoky to my nose as opposed to being more woody and or leathery, which would amp up the sex appeal imo. It does have a decent leather base and I think you get that in the silage. But for me the burnt smokiness lowers it overall, probably because it reminds me so much of man in black. The blend is nice though, the dry down is nice. I like it better than man in black, which is a little less dense and more one dimensional. This isn't quite as linear and has some good depth to it. This is like if man in black and Bentley intense had a baby and they named it vetiver but it didn't really smell like vetiver all that much lol

Overall it's a very nice scent. I am a fan of it. It's sexy and women will like it. Date night scent. It should give you a mysterious edge if you wear it right. It's more seductive than man in black and just is more versatile. Not a casual or office scent of course, but you could easily wear it clubbing, on date night, or in the bedroom. It wins in those categories. However it's not really a young guy's scent. 30+ because there's nothing sweet in it. Definitely a mature scent profile, but it does win in the seductive category

So overall pretty happy with the purchase. It does not smell redundant to the edt and nothing like the sport version, although it's close to the edt just with more added nuance. Overall the line is a very solid price and you get a lot of value for all three. However the quality in all of them is not 10/10 but for the price it's a very very solid bargain. This and the edt are mature scents, so you should always test first. This and the sport version are safe blind buys I think. The edt will probably disappoint some people as it lacks in performance and also smells very polarizing

The performance on this one is above average, but still seems more like an edt than an edp. The first hour you get nice projection then it goes close to the skin and later on kind of comes back for some reason, which is odd but cool too. If comparing to the other two then the performance is awesome because the edt and sport both are below average and weak performers

scent-7.5/10
performance-6.5/10
value-7.5/10
uniqueness-4/10
versatility-6/10
overall-7/10

Don’t you just hate when you blind buy a fragrance off a long history of seeing it hyped up, only to find out the fragrance comes no where near your expectation. That’s Encre A’lExtreme. It’s nothing like I expected. In fact, this might just be be my worst blind buy ever. Just spend the extra money on Sycamore or get something else altogether. If you’re looking for a great fragrance at a low price point, try Bentley Intense. Ironically, It’s by the same perfumer.

**UPDATE**
Maybe I spoke too soon. Because its starting to grow on me a little.

**FINAL UPDATE**
I tried to convince myself into liking this. I haven’t struck out in a while on a blind buy. I don’t like this fragrance at all. I’m trying to find something to layer it with. Can’t win em all ¯_(ツ)_/¯

BananaXango

It's great but not exactly what I was expecting as a fan of Encre Noire. The original and Sport stick closer to the pine smell. This smells brighter to me. Call me crazy but this reminds me a lot of the drydown on Bvlgari Man Extreme: Vetiver and very thick Benzoin. I'm pretty sensitive to that combo so I completely miss the incense and sandalwood. As a result this comes off as linear to me. It's very wearable though if you can already pull off this type of scent. It lacks the sweetness that would have made this a mess in high humidity hot weather. If you're very familiar with pine forests like I am then this will not smell "dark" to you, it will smell like freshly cut heart wood.

EvangLiber

I like this fragrance .... not LOVE IT! The opening is a little confusing to my nose. I do detect the Cypress and a little of Bergamot but not the fruit itself... more like the Leaves. It blends really well with the Cypress. After like 10 minutes I start to enjoy it enough to Love it at this point. Is really unique... it gives me the "ink smell" vibe (encre noire = black ink) mixed up with the gorgeous Vetiver and the smokey incense.... a little sweetness hides behind the woody sandalwood, maybe the Benzoin I guess (cant really tell). But the Patchouli is there framing and scenting all the woods.

In My mind this aroma is a Luxurious & Antique Library where you got some nice giant desks with some Fountain Pens to take notes from the pristine and well preserved Books.

As Ive said ... I dont LOVE IT because of the opening but it changes like 10 mins after at max.

P.S. THIS IS NOT! Blind Buy Safe

dducker11

I love Vetiver and I'm very happy with this scent. I believe the original is a more pure vetiver experience, but this one is nuanced and more elegant. I don't have a very sophisticated nose, having only recently come into the fragrance world, but I do pick up a little bit of the Cyprus, Patchouli, and Incense. Get nothing of the Bergamot. I think if you like Vetiver this is a must have fragrance, especially considering the price point. Almost a niche type of experience. Nothing "Extreme" about it.

For me, however, the performance is not great. Longevity is average but the sillage is very weak. Turns into a skin scent on me after an hour. By skin scent, I mean if I spray the inside of my forearm I have to put my nose an inch away to pick up anything. At the price though, spray liberally and re-spray when you get the chance if you want!

Plutoboy

I have no clue why I bought this. Literally smells like burning wood. I’ve only wore this once so I don’t really remember how long it lasted. 6.02/10

Beautifully masculine. I never get bored of this fragrance.

A true 10/10.

Alexsubway

Great deep dirty smoky sent, absolutely love it. Not great projection although with enough sprays in stays on the skin But, when I spray Hermes intense Vetiver on top of this this OMG … they work amazing together; sillage and projection are immense …. And with this at £25 it’s a steal

andrzejlyda3

To the one below: nope. nothing at all. it doesnt even stay on clothes for longer than 2 hours. Im so dissapointed. saw many youtube reviews about it and got excited. what a bummer.

Marssade

To the one below: You got nose blind with this perfume REALLY QUICK.But in reallity you re filling the room.Trust me...you need 3-5 sprays.

andrzejlyda3

So. I'm a fragrance lover and I'm know to my friends and colleagues for ALWAYS smelling good. I got lalique encre noir lextreme 2 days ago.

What can I say? Smells great but.... I spray myself and leave for work, by the time I get there (30mins) smell is non existent on clothes and body. First day I used 5 sprays and second day maybe 40... same result.

I am very very very disappointed.

Waste of money

vbs221

Only two non-Amouage fragrances I can say truly smell like Amouage--this and Boucheron Jaipur Homme.

The quality and complexity is exceptional. The dry down here actually has a lot of benzoin and elemi. Smells a lot like olibanum (frankincense) that hasn't been burned, of course along with vetiver and incense that remain from the opening. Exceptional quality that just keeps growing on you.

DenisBozic

So, I did not like Encre Noire, but Encre Noire A L'Extreme is absolutely magnificent.

It's darker and it's more sophisticated, at least to my nose. For me, it can be both a daytime and nighttime fragrance, though I will always wear it in cold, rainy weather.

There is something about Encre Noire A L'Extreme that makes it slightly... aloof? Haughty? For some reason, whenever I smell it, I feel like I just entered a clothing store with very clean, streamlined aesthetic. Something like Jil Sander, COS, or Acne Studios—though I guess I am specifically associating it with their grayscale collections.

Don't get me wrong, I love the vibe. I just opt to wear this one when I am feeling more introverted and "distant".

EternalReturn

My bottle of Chanel Sycomore (EDT) is running low. I have previously tried Encre Noire Sport, and the smoky vetiver in it did remind me somewhat of the central note in Sycomore. Since I kept hearing that Encre Noire a l’Extreme is quite close to Sycomore, especially the new EDP version of the Chanel fragrance, I blind bought it in the hopes that it could serve as a substitute. While there are some obvious differences between Sycomore EDT and EN a l’Extreme (ENALE), I am very glad that I made this purchase.

Why am I glad? First, because the similarities are close enough that the Lalique fragrance does give me some of what I love about Sycomore, and thus I can use it as a substitute at least sometimes, which allows me to save the Sycomore for special occasions. Second, ENALE is *crazy* value for the money. It is shockingly cheap for how fantastic it smells. Third, I actually really love the ways in which ENALE is *different* from Sycomore, so its value is not just as a cheap clone but rather as a compelling fragrance in its own right.

When I first fell in love with Sycomore years ago, I was a total fragrance n00b. I thought its woody and earthy smoke came from a combination of vetiver and tobacco. And in, part, it does. But I didn’t appreciate the degree to which cypress actually contributed to that smoky, woody, earthy accord. I later noticed that the combination of vetiver and cypress in other perfumes produced a similar scent — Rag & Bone Oddity, Le Labo Rose 31, EN Sport. ENALE obviously has this accord, and it is powerful in this scent. Where Sycomore uses tobacco, ENALE throws in incense to further strengthen this accord and to give additional dimension and character to it.

With its aldehydes and floral notes and a touch of sweetness, Sycomore (EDT) smells smoother and more complex, luxurious and refined than ENALE, and also more unisex to my nose. Rather than surrounding and supporting and blending the smoky vetiver-cypress accord like Sycomore, ENALE doubles down on it. It is deeper, darker, inkier (apropos of its name), and also more masculine. (Though I could certainly imagine a confident, vetiver-loving woman pulling it off.) And it is simpler and a bit more linear, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing if you love the main accord as much as I do. In all honesty, I have yet to detect any other notes or accords in this fragrance outside of the main accord (although I usually apply my fragrances sparingly because they are more for my own enjoyment than anything else, so perhaps if I apply more liberally I would be able to detect the other notes more readily). Contrary to some other reports, I certainly do not detect any canned peas.

In terms of performance, ENALE seems to last most of the day, though projection is no more than moderate, at least in the dosages that I apply. Which is how I like it. BTW, I have to say that I love the flacon, too. It really does look kind of like a square ink bottle sitting on my desk, and the chunky, weighty glass is satisfying to heft in the hand.

In sum, I love ENALE both for the ways in which it is similar to Sycomore (EDT) and for the ways in which it differs. I think it’s easily worth triple its price, or more. An unmitigated winner.

ADDENDUM: After further wearing, I just want to mention that I do get the burning rubber smell that some people note, but only if I put my nose directly on my skin shortly after spraying the fragrance there. The sillage, though, is entirely something else. And it's the sillage that you and others around you are going to smell, so... don't worry about it.

FragZappa

I love it. If you like vetiver you will probably love it too. It's complex, masculine, and unapologetic. All of l'alique's fragrances I've tried have been interesting and complex. I take a whiff and it's like a puzzle to figure out. This one is like that, it's beautiful.

Very smoky. Just like a piece of (not very) sweet wood smoldering, exuding charred bitter smell. Some people may be more sensitive to some of its facets resembling organic glue or burning plastic, but to me it's just burning wood. Towards the end, it'll lean more to the bitter side; it's also moldy and earthy on skin.
Longevity is at best moderate on fibre and rather poor on skin. Poor projection too.
Elegant in cold season. Perfect for zen times.

Caveat: it's as crude as Encre Noire, not the smooth, rounded type of vetiver. Nor is it creamy, syrupy type of frags that can be worn to night clubs.

As to where Sport is a more aromatic version of the original, A L'Extreme is an altogether different cologne. Much less aggressive, more balanced and smooth. I generally get great longevity with scents and this one is about a solid 5/6 hours for me. This will be a must own for those who dabble in darker and more resinous scents.

So very strange...
I'm trying to wear this one again today. I don't know if it's this bottle or how it's composed, but I can NEVER smell this one. Others can't smell it either so it's not just me. I've had my wife come and smell where i've sprayed it after about 15 minutes...just a faint hint of a fragrance.
I think this is the last straw, I'll stick with my bottle of the original "Encre Noire" and put this in the donation bin.
Nothing beats the original.

This one doesn't work well for me. I'm in love with the original Encre Noire of its vetiver but I hardly recognize that note from this version. This one's giving me too much incense, replacing the iconic vetiver of the initial version. If only the original could last and project a little better for me :(

Trissyxd

Smells like incensy paper dipped in dirt… but in a good way!

Not for everyone, but I really really like it.

mk61hacker

Interesting and unique scent with unfortunate longevity of 1-2 hours after which it is not even a skin scent - it's gone. Something is wrong as no EDP concentration should perform so weak. If and when the the production/manufacturing problem is fixed - it would be a very unique and excellent dark, cannabis leaning (a-la Black Afgano) smell for men.

SmellAlive

An improvement on the original. Good longevity, decent projection in the 1st hour, crazy price value ratio. Haven't smelled sycomore, but I can safely say this is high quality and you get a lot more than you pay for, I doubt that is the case for any chanel exclusiff.

RareEll69

Smells like a very lite and airy olive juice. I dont see myself ever wearing this.

Ive heard multiple people call this their rainy day scent.
Maybe cause they cannot actually wear it in public?

whatdadogdoin

I love the scent but this seriously lasts 1-2 hours max. I don't understand why. I bought a tester from a reputable discounter. This is seriously the worst performing fragrance I own. I have already finished a quarter of the bottle cause I need to spray it 10-15 times to have it last any decent amount of time, and even at that it's 2 hours maximum. That is not even an exaggeration. I would stay away, a lot of people are saying the same thing as of late. Maybe there is a bad batch going around.

What the hell is this??

This cannot be the original formulation I have just bought. I smell barely anything after 20 minutes.

What have they done to this masterpiece?,?

The only thing extreme about this fragrance now is it's weakness.

Smells like a tinctured pirate's walking plank or treasure chest for a short period before completely disappearing into the ether.

So so poor... I feel sorry for Nathalie Lorson. I'm guessing the original formulation has been watered down to a fragrant woody p*ss to maximise the 🤑💲💰 as is the norm of companies these days.

Absolutely Disappointing... Lasts maybe like 10 mins on my skin and I am not kidding. After and hour or two.... it's all gone... Sold it the very next day I bought it...
Lost some money, but I just wanted it gone...

Vetiver you are, at once, my champion and my nemesis. Guerlain Vetiver, you can ruin my entire day at work, TF Grey Vetiver, you put me on a pedestal. But Encre Noir Extreme, you tease me and play with my affections. Lalique already had a masterpiece with Encre Noir, but EC Extreme let’s you in on a secret - you CAN mess with perfection.

hvqe071

it's too much freaking wood and earthy, not my type. Very difficult to wear, it's like the scent for a man who lives in the cabin in some forest. I'm 22 and i think it is for the guys age like 35 and above. I rate it a B minus.

Rare Fougere

Unnngh. I blind bought this on the strength of YouTube reviews and it is detestable. I can see no occasion where this would get you complements and I certainly don’t like it myself which is the most important thing, anyway. It smells like wood stain and something like cough syrup fermenting. I’m glad I only got beat out of a little bit of money for this. When I think of the nice little meal I could have used this money for instead, it angers me. PM me if you live in NYC and want this and a full bottle of Kouros (also disgusting) for like ten bucks.

So. Much. Vetiver! I enjoy Encre Noir A L’extreme, it’s a really difficult fragrance to pull off that has initial cypress (I don’t know how to describe it, but it’s unique) and dry wood notes, dries down after 45 mins to earthy vetiver and incense. I enjoy it because it’s complex and is a little rough around the edges, think: the silent guy in the leather armchair, black suit and tie, top button undone-vibe.

Longevity is 10+ hours on my skin, projection is great and sillage is pretty good. I don’t get many compliments with this, but it is a great scent.

For evening times in colder months, not a safe blind-buy by any stretch of the imagination, you have to sample/test this.
