Ah, the Encre Noire line. I feel like everyone who ever watched a youtube video has those three bottles, given they are dirt cheap and always available on every discounter site under the sun.

Why is that, though? One would naturally assume that fragrances hyped all the time in the community would naturally get bought out leading to price increase and low availability - case in point, some other coveted Lalique men scents such as Ombre Noire and White in Black.

Well, there is a very simple reason. All three of them - OG, Extreme and Sport are quite the challenging scents, especially on novice noses, that are the most likely to seek them out and buy them as they are usually mentioned as "high quality cheapies". Coincidently, those are the type of customers that are the least likely to vibe with those scents from first, or even second, third and fourth sniff.

As a results, while everybody talks about these scents, hardly anyone ends up wearing them.
Those are not "crowd pleasing" "mass appealing" "easy to wear" "sexy" or whatever your favorite fragtuber buzzwords are.

The main reason is the vetiver note, and the way it is used in the line - pretty much all of them are quite heavy on the raw, grassy, overwhelmingly green vetiver, and while other vetiver centric scents usually balance it out with contrasting notes, here it's even further reinforced by Cypress, turning it into a green vetiver bomb that transports you straight into a grassfield during spring, and the compositions lacks the usual warm and sweet notes that are easier to like for even people who have not advanced very far into the fragrance game.

Finally, coming to the fragrance in question here - the Encre Noire Sport flanker. What did they do different from the OG? Most notably, and very evident from the opening, they have added "watery notes" - while Lalique not being specific, it is very obviously a heavy dose of calone.

While some citrus notes are in the note breakdown for the opening, this is very much a scent dominated by the middle notes - the watery, fresh cucumber juice like calone, lavender and cypress combo take charge from the opening, and the vetiver while still being a noticeable presence, it takes a backseat here during opening and first 1-2h of the drydown. The base of the composition, just like the original, relies on heavy use of the aroma chemical Cashmeran - synthetic musk with woody/balsamic qualities concocted by IFF.

The new composition of "EN Sport" does what it was meant to do - takes the scent into a fresher, lighter, green/aquatic direction, that would generally be easier for people not crazy about the "vetiver bomb" qualities to stomach the opening, while at the same time not going into a "sea salt" direction like all the other popular aquatics - the profile of the scent is much more of a "grassy field covered in a fresh morning dew on a cold summer night" rather than sea breeze.

As a whole, i find it more interesting and "wearable" if you will than the original, and definitely, and especially for the price and wide availability, a bottle worthy scent.
Both projection and longevity are more on the "just ok" rather than "good" scale, but i have no issue with that given the other factors and the type of weather i would usually spray it on.

stonkz

Initially not a fan... but after spraying it on my skin i quite like it? i do get the calone note people are talking about. for the price it is well worth it. 22 bucks blind buy and im not regretting. different but not unwearable like some say encre noire is. i manly get musk, calone and cypress maybe a little lavender on the drydown.

BinksStinks

Smells like marram grass. I’m not sure what the “sport” is referring to, I still feel like a brick shit house after I spray this on. God I need to shed a few pounds. On second thoughts, it may be referring to the slight musty, damp smell in the base (reminiscent of the smell of moderate intensity contact sports). Look I don’t know, I’m not even sure what encre noire means. I think it’s Latin or something.

perfuctionist

Green, fresh and inky. I didn't like it at the beggining but it growed on me. Now, it's a must for spring.

greenx

Watered down OG (root water) with citrus detergent. Longevity is pretty bad, 2 hours tops.
The "sport" branding conveniently justifies it's weak performance.

chipchippahson

Been putting this review off for a while, have had the bottle for about a year. This doesn't smell much like anything else I own. The reason it doesn't get much use is because there's something in the opening that reminds me of rubber, maybe the interaction between the nutmeg and vetiver? Once it gets into the drydown though, it's pretty nice. I get more watery and woodsy notes than the citrus most other people report. Fresh, but complex. This brings up more "images" compared to anything else in my collection - it smells like an overcast South American rainforest, or a vibrant dark green, or standing on a deserted Florida beach near some reeds, watching a hurricane pass by over the water in the distance.

This works exceptionally well for spring/summer overcast or rainy days, where the temperature is 70 degrees or higher. If I had to compare, it's like a less punchy and more meloncholy Terre d'Hermes. Projection is just OK, longetivity is adequate. For the price though, this is an easy gamble. Again I'm just not a huge fan of the opening, but as someone who generally tries to match fragrances to the weather, this fills a very specific niche at an extremely reasonable cost. As an aside I almost never comment on presentation, but the atomizer on my bottle is pretty terrible.

Where Encre Noire is dark, austere, and monolithic, this is a monolith with little embellishment and filligree. Think of it as Encre Noire with a barbershop twist.

The greatest difference is in the first 10 minutes. The citrus makes for a much livelier opening compared to EN. While it stays true to the "Noire" name, the opening has a bit of freshness and energy that the original doesn't.

A subtle background of lavender (absent in the original) also lingers in this version. This works superbly with the central vetiver note, essentially giving it more backbone and smoothness without changing its overall character. A good addition.

This is probably my favourite from the line. Exactly what you'd expect of a "sport" version. It's a more well-rounded Encre Noire, which nonetheless doesn't sacrifice its artistic sensibilities.

Swaggrsaurus

There’s not much bad to really say about it. The grapefruit comes it heavy in the opening, smells like fresh citrus fruits and their juice. The dry down starts to smell more hydrating and the earthiness starts to come out. Very pleasant scent. The grapefruit is arguably the most leading note for me. Or at least on my skin. The vetiver is quite nice and it’s a pretty nice fresh scent overall. Would recommend!

The DZ

If you’re looking at reviews to figure out whether or not to buy and have the original Encre Noir, just know that they should have called this Encre Noir Light.

Really pleasant, easy to wear. Wet and dry simultaneously. Fresh and dark simultaneously. Love it!

OrangeGuy

This one is interesting. Quality is not lacking. Gives that OG Encre Noire DNA but quickly goes into a different direction.

Masculine, kind of fresh, green and very watery.
Vetiver is giving a dry/earth vibe to it .

It is very watery and dry at the samw time, it's like a wet dirt but with a twist on it.

You get the citruses in the first 10 minutes.

You need to go 6-10 sprays with this.

Smell- 7/10
Projection- 5/10

ashroloie

Lovely and versatile scent that could be worn day or night any season except maybe the hottest of hot summer days. My first experience with Encre Noire, I was put off by people saying the other versions were very harsh. I actually love the dry down on this. Its very pleasant to my nose. Now I know what an inky woody citrus scent smells like lol.

I blind bought this not knowing anything and am quite happy. Anyone sitting on the fence, don't worry it makes a perfect daily signature, hitting a bullseye very few scents in my opinion often do. Not overly sweet but very unique smelling to make you like it, not too heavy to make you sick of smelling it every day but still stronger at the same time than it's low price should suggest. Suitable for work, casual, out for drinks or dinner either. It quite well blended and well thought out.

Nathalie Lorson knows her stuff.

Daphnid

I get a very big hit of calone from ENS, both the watermelony notes and the kelpy maritime notes. It's this, much more than the citrus, that make it an interesting alternative to the original for me. It's very refreshing on a cool, damp day, yet still has some moodiness and darkness to it.

_MJ_

A pleasant, fresh aquatic with a touch of class. An elegant aquatic, if you will. The moniker "Sport" fits it well - it's proper for gym, playing sports, running errands in a hot weather or simply as a fresh out of the shower scent. Probably the least unique and the most crowd pleasing in the Encre Noire line.

Performs better than A L'Extreme, although it's not saying much. Still, I'm more than satisfied to have it as the main aquatic in my summer rotation this season.

KopaneDePooj

Discounted for 18$ new - shipping included!!?
I just had to have this along the other two in my collection. It just looks better having 3 ink bottles side by side than two :))

I like the smell - original EN + that watery note and lavender gives it a blueish hue (similar to the liquid color) that feels carefree / casual appropriate and very pleasant. Bit of yesteryear blue vibe, but much much better than many "blue" ambroxan bombs.

Can't wait for the "Indigo" to hit the discounters!

SuperScents

Watered down Encre Noire with grapefruit. That's all. Encre Noire is the ultimate fall scent. Trying to turn the DNA into a mass appealing Spring/Sumer freshie makes no sense. Pass.

Jimmy-Ultime

SamSam10, you say it smells like period bood????
Well, i guess period blood smells nice then.

tylerss20

I actually like most of the notes present, but something is way imbalanced. There's a harsh printer toner quality to this. A letdown, considering how solid the rest of the Lalique catalog is.

Will in DC

I like the original and wear it regularly in fall and winter. But this is not pleasant. It's essentially the original with added citrus top and a watery note. The style of vetiver used here and the cypress just clash with the bergamot and it feels watered down, but not fresh. The idea was executed perfectly, but it was a bad idea! There are numerous vetivers with citrus tops that are outstanding, but this ain't one of them. Glad I sampled first, probably won't even finish the vial, why would I with TdH eau Intense Vetiver, Grey Vetiver, and Guerlain on the shelf? I recommend the original, but this is a mess, avoid.

Mr.Andersson

I tried - but I don't enjoy this. It's weird.

mikomykomeeko

I agree with mergo, it's just a soapy smell. I think I hyped this one up a bit too much. I have a 1ml decant sample which i was excited to try but I just found the smell underwhelming. It's vetiver heavy which admittedly I don't have much experience with and I ordered a few more vetiver samples and I think the note just isn't for me.

gtxrainy

in the air, the OG Encre Noire smells the same as this. There is so much of the original in here it’s just freshened up a tad. Good for spring and summer, go read my review on the OG

RobbieX

Nathalie Lorson blends some fantastic creations and this is one of her best. Beautiful, fresh citrussy vetiver. Probably better than the original E.N. in my opinion.

mergo

It is just a soapy smell, dont expect too much..

apollo909

I have blind bought this fragrance and I do not regret it but I am not too excited either. The main problem I have with ENS is the opening. There is something too overpowering and off putting that makes me nauseaus. The terrible opening lasts for 10 to 20 minutes then it starts to smell much much better, it is more subtle and classy. It is woody with earthy vetiver and slightly fresh and musky. I definitely wouldn´t call it a typical "sport" fragrance. I think it is best suited for spring and fall but you can definitely wear it even in summer.

The performance on my skin is average I get arround 6 hours but it goes into skin scent really quick. It doesen´t bother me I think the classy more subtle projection suits this fragrance better, that being said if you expect something loud you might be disappointed.

If it wasn´t for the unpleasent opening it would be one of my favourite scent for exceptional price (I got it for less then 25 dollars in sale).

Thewillrus

I get it, but it's not for me. I love how the vetiver is done in this, and I love how it interplays with the cashmere and citrus notes, but the ink note is an absolute no for me. It makes me nauseous. If you've ever licked the tip of a pen to get it to write and enjoyed the taste, this line is absolutely gonna be your jam.

Samfbob

For the price, this is a no brainer for me. The smell is great and a much easier wear then the A L 'Extreme version although i personally prefer the Extreme version. I find the dry down of this to be the best part of this fragrance and it's a good dumb reach fragrance for me. The performance isn't the best, not the worst but not the best but i've found this one to be pretty good with layering under other freshies. All in all worth it for what you're paying.

roccodrigo

An amazing work by Master Nathalie Lorson, fresh grapefruit with loads of cypress and vetiver
Green by nature, a juice that matches its smell and a bottle that matches its name
Great for spring and fall, good longevity and projection
I wore this fragrance the day my son was born
Got it for 30 USD
My wife loves it

c0ca1nel0ve

For me this is a transparent watery & light fragrance. Starts off with a big blast of grapefruit that's super fresh and drys down to this light musky vetiver scent that barley remind me of the original encre noire or the l a extreme, good for daily wear if you just want to smell chill and fresh BUT the performance is not great, i get around 3 hours NOT COMPLAINING i understand each scent serves a purpose but i would like it to at least project a little more and last a bit more. overall good value for money!

aalmumin

My favorite night perfume. Early fresh and long lasting. A real steal if you get a tester bottle

yeldah

This is delicious and moreish - my brother bought it as a blind buy, and I would say its definitely a safe one. It smells and feels super expensive. If a niche house released this I would think that was ridiculous. The bottle is so heavy it's funny!
Atelier Cologne perfumes meets Terre D'Hermes meets Chanel Blue.
The cypress and water notes definitely come through, almost has a salty smell over the woods and citrus. I agree that it smells like petrichor: like a freshly rained on forest

Anabol2336

Hardly resembles the original. As many others have stated it smells like a wet forest. In particular a wet, mossy, pine forest after a hard rain in the middle of summer. Has a gorgeous petrichor note to it. Terre D'Hermes and Tom Ford Grey Vetiver lovers will absolutely adore it. In my opinion blind buy worthy especially at the dirt cheap price.

LIKANTROP

I took it blind and was afraid I wouldn't like it but I really liked it for me it smells like fresh washed grapefruit in the beginning with a fresh note growing over time into a nice slightly sweet woody scent.

SweetPeaPea

I've not smelled the others in the line which I imagine are not blind buy safe, but if you're a frag head developing your collection, Sport is cheap enough to eat the 30 bucks if you don't like it. I blind bought and was delighted with the uniqueness of the scent. It's damp and inky while simultaneously being fresh and optimistic. I definitely have found a use for it in my rotation, especially for rainy days and nights.

exmin

so uplifting and fresh amazing value

Hulk#1

I enjoy all Vetiver varieties, from fresh, to earthy and smokey. Encre Noire Sport is fresh and earthy. The most versatile in the Encre Noire range. It’s a fragrance I really enjoy. Not everyone around you will share the same enthusiasm. It opens with a fresh grapefruit, then moves into a watery fresh Vetiver with the green notes tonned down from the OG. The dry down has the earthy Vetiver from the OG. I still can’t believe the price is less than £25 in the UK for 100ml. Performance is decent if you overspray. This is more of a 10 plus squirts to get the projection and longevity through a work day but who cares at that price. If you like fresh and clean smells but are bored with blues or aquatic staples, this will surprise you positively. I would say this is right up there as one of my favourite inexpensive fragrances. All things considered it’s a banger.

babydaddy

Encre Noir Sport gives me heavy Lagerfeld Classic Grey vibes, and fails to captivate my senses. The essence of cedar or cypress sours swiftly after an hour, reminiscent of a hamster cage punch (replete with urine) right to the nose AND the mouth. This fragrance, unfit for summer wear, exudes the stale aura of an antiquated potting shed. My sincerest apologies, but this composition merits a mere 3 out of 10.

Histamine

A good easy to wear vetiver fragrance that still has some of that cypress of the original. More versatile and inoffensive than original but also less unique and watered down. Great quality for the frequently discounted price but also a bit overhyped as this is not niche quality IMHO. I do not see the name sport making any sense here. This is a moist woody scent that is only slightly fresh. Good for a slightly introverted sigma type male that does not care about compliments but wears fragrance for himself, yet does not want to disturb others either.

Sniff away

Encre noir sport doesn't smell anything like encre noir edt or the extreme version. And nothing like terre d hermes . They are all completely different scents apart from the cashmere dry downs in the Encre versions.
The top notes smell like versace pour homme or chanel allure sports that sort of metalic citris smell which is very pleasant ,that lasts for around 20 mins .
It turns into a skin scent quickly.
I Don't get much lavender or cypress. Has this been reformulated? as i bought the bottle recently . Perhaps it needs summer heat to perform better .
Some vetiver is present giving it a rubber type of smell.
The cashmere dry down is nice it appears after 2-3 hours .
It doesn't project much .
Longevity isn't great around 4 hours .

Sam_NY_89

TDH without the orange and less 'classy', but sporty and unique and not generic at all. The problem with vetiver based colognes that it is so popular these days it lost it signature and style. but this is cheap performs so well and because it is from Lalique you have a gorgeous bottle glass quality.
I sampled the original Encre Noire this is much more bright, the difference between the two is like difference between a Norwegian forest and Central park.

weazal

Thick moss, deep loam, base of faint vetiver/woody cypress. Humid density from moderate musk is a little soapy. Watery/rainy marine comes out after opening, harmonizing with citrus top note of bergamot/grapefruit zest.

Soft and heady with mild forest vetiver. Fresh blue takes over, becoming more generic, while alternating between vetiver and citrus in background. Brisk top note and cozy mid, but base feels absent/hollow.

Not bad. Unsure “clunky” is the right word, but something's off. Should have tried other versions before “Sport.”

1ST TRY:
Mossy loam with soapy softness. Rain on parsley. Gentle grapefruit zest. Ozone and cypress pairs with musky lavender.

Similar to Frederich Malle’s “French Lover” but weak. Top note is Lacoste’s sporty green “Essential” with base of vetiver shampoo. Have to go too close to smell, only to be reminded that “French Lover” is so much better.

Likable enough to want to try the non-Sport version. Dry vetiver and oak-moss with a fresh, creamy body carries through dry down.

DaveCave

Love this one! It’s a citrus and vetiver fragrance, the versatility of this one is just insane! You can wear it everywhere and you’ll be smelling great!

RNR

The more easy to wear and social version of the original encre noir

exmin

if you love encre noire you will love this

Case650

Love it, fresh and classy. More for the mature man.

skcrzg

longevity is very short. I would recommend layering noire extreme with a little bit of green noted fragrance. More or less, it will be same but last longer .

The DZ

Something that must be known about ENS: it it the king of layering under freshies.

Spadz97

I've been aware of the encre noire line of fragrances for a while but I've been put off by the dark and gothic interpretation of the scent. YouTube reviews have mentioned that it is polarising and I was put off from trying any fragrances from the line for a while now.

Despite this my collection has been slowly growing and I have been more keen to distance myself from fragrances that may be considered redundant. I saw encre noire sport (which has been the fragrance from the lineup that I deemed to be the most likely I would enjoy) for sale on notino for £15 and decided to take a punt on it.

I wish I had bought it sooner as it has blown me away with not only the scent but the quality of the presentation. The bottle is a thick glass with a classy wooden cap which I absolutely love.

The scent is one that really stands out to me as it has a freshness which I love in fragrances and the woody and almost herbal nature of the cypress is a real standout for me and brings back good memories of my childhood as I grew up in an area with lots of cypress. I expected the fragrance to be dark and gothic as per other reviews however I find this to be very versatile for me and possibly even signature scent worthy as it is extremely masculine aswell.

The performance is also outstanding as for a fresher woody scent it lasts around 8hrs on my skin and projects heavily for 2hrs.

All being said it has quickly become one of my favourite fragrances in my collection and I can see this becoming my signature scent in the future as it works extremely well for me. If the other fragrances in the encre noire line are as good as this one, it won't be long before I add them to my collection as this has truly exceeded all my expectations.

woomanmoomin

Love, love, love the original Encre Noire, even if I mostly only wear it for arson sprees or when Lord Summerisle decrees that the islanders light a sacrificial wicker man.

Not so keen on À l'Extrême. Not so keen on the waxy side of the elemi. I think that's receding with use though.

This is lovely, and yeah, it's like an Encre Noire Fraiche or whatever. It almost reminds me of a million fragrances based on that lemonade-like freshie use of citrus with vetiver and/or ginger--Issey Sport and the 2008 Dior Homme Sport spring to mind, along with ye olde Guerlain Vetiver--but here the lavender bursts in near the start of the party (more than in the Dior, I think, although it's years since I smelt that), yelling at me to shut up and show some respect. The cashmeran and musk bring a kind of soft, enveloping, almost creamy texture familiar from the original, but here the zingier top notes keep the overall effect much leaner and probably more restrained, or at any rate more upbeat and less brooding. (The cypress, by the way, is immediately reminiscent of the original, and contributes to the lift here as well as to the base.) Actually I'm reminded of the rich bubbly treat that is Barr's Cream Soda, even though that doesn't smell like this; as much as the citrus cuts through the base here, the base seems to thicken the citrus.

This is another fantastic Encre Noire study in relative minimalism and is sure to be one of my favourites for much of the warmer half or three-quarters of the year.

monsieur.moustache

This is what you get when you mix Encre Noire with a freshie.

Less polarizing than the OG, but the freshness does dilute a bit of that dessicated woody/vetiver essence that makes the original so unique.

Bingo30

Highly versatile. This isn’t a beachy summer fragrance at all. This is a masculine “any time, any place” fragrance. Thus its moniker “Sport” may be a misnomer. This is still the woody and classy Encre Noire at its core! It is just given a little bit of lift and electricity.

To me this smells like a newly varnished and very expensive wooden table. Some grapefruit is definitely weaved in there - but grapefruit primarily serves to accentuate the dominant woody character. This is 75% woods and 25% citrus. A perfect ratio for me. Smells great.

On my skin performance is a bit poor. But the price is undeniable. To my taste this smells better than some $250+ men’s fragrances. So easy to recommend this.

H20202021

I do not see darkness. It is heavy in grapefruit. To me similar to Bleu de Chanel edt and a little bit adg vibe maybe bc of citrus. It has woody undertone.
It does not smell old school.

AndreLuisA

So green, so woody, but so fresh.. For summer or winter, days or nights, fits all!

conrdcl

Im slowly falling in love with this, the opening is a-ok. But the journey gets from this marine-piney smell into this fresh with a tinge of sweetness and aroma into it. Might wear a lot more soon.

Avg.Man

For me, this is the best of the Encre Noire bunch. The A L'Extreme did not work well on my skin and turned into a funky vegetal scent after a couple hours. The OG was a bit too dark, damp, depressing. The Sport has more freshness while retaining much of the OG base and unique profile. This is not likely a signature scent, but a mood scent or “change of pace” scent. Price for value is excellent.

Projection: 4-6 sprays = slightly beyond arms' length for 2 hours, then moves closer in for next 3-4 hours until skin scent only. I lose this scent off my skin quickly when I go outside though.
Sillage: respectable for an hour or two, but this is not one for others to detect, mostly for wearer to appreciate.

ahmedpol1216

I really love and enjoy the way this one smells. I've not sniffed the original and L'extream yet yet. But i hope i will definitely try them sooner or later.
It's woody aromatic citrus spicy just the way main accords are listed in fragrantica. Only thing I'm not satisfied with is, it gets close to my skin scent just after 1 hour. But it definitely stay there for long time. Even you can have the smell from your cloths after 10 or more hours if you sniff closely.
For this price point you can't expect anything better than this.
Love it.

Gilbertotejera

I had the original Encre Noire and gave it away as it was unwearable and unbearable. This one, Encre Noire Sport is a real masterpiece… sure it’s got the original dna, but much muted and with added aromatic notes. Surely it is not for everyone tastes, but if you like vetiver, this one is for you.

Finally, I think most people are confused about the “Sport” in the name, in this case it means informal, as when you dress informal.

Alexey Fisher

Bought it because of uniqueness of the scent. For me it's the best version of Encre Noir. More versatile, complex, more interesting scent. More citrus and more musk but eventually very close to original. Green wet 🌲. Also it has bitterness from grapefruit. The most disappointing thing is poor performance 2-3 hours, then it smells only close to skin. For better performance you should spray it a lot. After a couple of days it reminds me L'eau d'issey Issey Miyake but Issey Miyakeis more complex, has better performance and eternal longevity.

OlderNose

A very fresh take on Vetiver. Everybody in my family likes it. Excellent!.

Kamulop

Blind bought this because I wanted to discover more vetiver scents. I decided to go with the Sport flanker, because it was said it's the easiest of Encre Noires. Gotta admit, my first impression wasn't very good. It was very dark and intense, woody and masculine. I was waiting for something much fresher, maybe even a bit of sweetness, but it was very dark and intense. As many others have said, really smells like a dark, wet pine forest.

After few wears though, It has actually grown on me. Despite it's dark nature, EC Sport is quite wearable and the vetiver is addicting especially when smelled in the air. This is not a easy dumb reach, but it's not too hard to wear either. The price for value is great. Performance is good and sillage is moderate.

MrSpover5

Smells like a wet pine forest.

crisppy1

Takes the original makes it much more universal. Its kind of a classic formula in this version, spicy fresh citrus with a bitter dark wood note. Think of Bleu de chanel, aventus. This is the original encre noir with citrus added to it. It wont blow you away but its nice. If you like vetiver and want something thats a true universal occasion scent this is the one. Good performance, good price. Bergamot-cypress-bitter vetiver

Like it! More and more each time.
Citrusy, pretty heavy on Grapefruit in the first 1,5h, Bergamot, clean, more settled version of the other Encre Noirs. It has the original DNA but way more layed back. Decent and slightly above average on sillage. This one is when you don´t want to go as deep into the forest as the other 2 :) .It´s still woody tho but fresher :D. Not the same longevity as the other ones this is like 7h (on my skin) compaired to a l´extreme with 12h.

bought 10mil of it for my dads birthday gift and i felt in love with it. its a great woody perfume for teenage and young male with tons of great notes. cant get tired of its scent.

luis bacigalupo

Versátil, apto para toda ocasión y clima, para oler diferente a la masa. Duración y proyección decentes, huele más caro de lo que cuesta. Gran compra.

FBorde

Perfect scent for the acquired taste.

MaxRenn

Not sure where this one sits with me? I loved the orginal, although I wear it infrequently. The orginal is unlike anything else I own and its an acquired taste, very earthy and manly, perfect for autumn/winter.

This is definitley similar to the original and I think there's nothing sporty whatsover about this fragrance or the Encre Noire. Its the antithesis of fresh & sporty. It sits close to the skin, but the sillage is excellent and its very damp and mossy. I would have liked more citrus, but the citrus just seems to tamp down the orginal strong aromatic & woody accords of the original, but not come though itself. I was expecting more, but it seems like a diluted version of Encre Noire.

Like the original I'll probably not buy again, as this bottle should last forever. I stll have my nearly half full bottle of the Encre Noire, which I purchased back in 2016. I was hoping for more orginality.

6/10.

AUyliong

It has the orig Encre Noir's intoxicating leather shoe and shoe polish scent but they're mere supporting characters here. The main star of the show is a strong fruity melon scent which transforms into grapefruit in the drydown that reminds me of L'Eau D'Issey for Women.

Cletus Lorentz

the scent profile is okey, but this is extremely synthetic smelling... nothing to go for if you like natural fragrances.

SpiderMarc

The grapefruit, the cypress & both the different vetivers certainly standout. Everything is blended to perfection!

So loving this frag. Use it anytime! It’s fresh but no ordinary freshie as it has that earthiness and woody aromatic notes to give it so much more character.
This is a must have for any frag collector.

Lalique produces such lovely fragrances and mostly are at reasonably affordable prices.

pntmasta

absolutely atrocious and nauseating chemical smell of cut grass. And the more it sits the worse it gets. Unfortunately for this fragrance its extremely long lasting. I applied 1 spray into my hair the other day and can still get whiffs of it 2 days after that, and ive washed my hair twice already. When i initially smelled it on a blotter i actually liked it, but using normally is absolutely unacceptable. Very cheap product and costs as it should, i paid 26 dollars. Now have no idea what to do with it. Nobody i know would like to smell like this. Im doubting to even use it as a toilet seat refreshener.
The OG encre noir is actually good and doesnt reek of cheap notes like this one and the a l'extreme.

Ali Polat

A more green and fresh version of the Encre Noire a l'extreme.
A dark, woody, incensy, muscy, aromatic scent with very fine bergamot note.
You can it use for all season.
Very good P/P point.
I don't know, it's a blind buy safe but has a very good quality and on my opinion, a must have scent.

bobsyerunckle

I've had this stuff for over 10 years. It's easily become my go to because it's so versatile. At work? You are a shrewd and inspiring beacon of professionalism. At the supermarket? You are smelling fresh, clean, but unique. At the beach? You smell rich, and very content with your ability to relax. The combinations of different notes in this thing are why it works: bergamot and lavender gives it a shiny green, fresh pop at the start which lasts for 1 -2 hrs, vetiver cleans it up and makes it feel rounded and thick, and the musks at the base keep it persistent but fresh. Those saying they can't smell this are just nose blind, because this stuff lasts. At work, I go with 4 sprays and it's still there 10 hrs later. You can't really over spray this though. I think it's supposed to be a close, personal scent, it just fits more with its appeal. It's all about a quiet confidence, not yelling for attention like the latest tiktok hero. Since it's so well rounded, this would make a perfect scent for anyone going to college or in a first serious job. It's not exactly a friendly, "howdy doody pleased to meet ya!!!" scent, it's more for someone who knows what they want and know what they bring to the table. At the prices you can find it for, there's really no reason why anyone wouldn't have this. It's the best out of the line from a purely technical standpoint. Regardless of its price and the 20 second hit of calone you might experience, I'd still choose this over the rest of the line and 90% of other vetiver based scents out there today- it's that good. 4 stars.

Allfactory

Love it! I did not like it at first because it has a very intense woody smell, but it has grown onto me and has become one of the favorites in my collection. This cheapie competes with expensive niche fragrances with depth, projection and longevity. I can smell it days after a couple of sprays on clothes.

Although, definitely not a sporty fragrance. It’s perfect for the fall.

Kshir

My first vetiver forward frag and thanks to this I understood I can never get around vetiver as a prime note (well maybe TdH and/or Fattan, but they have a slightly sweeter base and are more rounded off). This smells like an almost rotten damp wood sprinkled with citrus, all of which is kept in the middle of cypress trees. I do not get the watery notes, its more like the dampness that gives off a feeling of something "wet" that I did not find appealing; not as bad as it sounds but definitely not my taste.

Performance was just horrible, I do not see how people are rating this long lasting. Lasts for about 3-5 hours on skin with decent project for max 1 hour or so. On clothes it lasts a tad longer but I will mostly consider this as an intimate/personal scent for own enjoyment. Presentation however was top notch, loved the bottle and quality but hated the shape as you cannot hold and spray it with 1 hand.

Overall, this is great if you want to get into vetiver based frags and want to start off with something respectable without shelling out a lot. Really appreciate Lalique (and Bentley therefore) price/quality and this juice might be a love for a lot of people, sadly it did not work for me and ended up returning it. If you can, sample before you buy!

I don’t like it. Smells mouldy, its watery but done in a bad way its like dirty old green water. Like Body odour or the bottom of old granny hand bag haha. I tried my best to describe it lol I got rid of the bottle .

kimi08serbia

After almost a year of having this stuff, and now comparing it to original EN, i have to agree with some comments bellow. Personally, i like the EN Sport version more beacouse of it's versatility, but there is noticeable difference in terms of longevity and projection. If you look at the EN Sport just as a summer scent, the longevity and projection is good for a freshie (slightly above average), but the original is noticeably stronger and way more "in you're face type of scent". Even when i overspray the EN Sport it doesn't feel that much more potent. Yes, personally you can detect it for long time (if you don't go noseblind) but you have to get people very close to you so that they can really smell it and apreciate it. In terms of compliments, it's average, but in my experience the smell isn't as polarizing or offensive like the original one.

littlejssn

Love the original, but this feels too weak. Truly do not understand the reviews rating this as long-lasting. I feel like I can to over-spray like a maniac.

There's also something abrasive to it that's hard to put my finger on. I typically like cypress, so I don't want to blame it on that, but it's definitely something green, like an unpleasant pine scent.

Odor Aeternitatis

To me, this fragrance is a true niche fragrance although it has a very low price. But who cares? It has a very unique and interesting scent for a fresh fragrance. The selection and combination of notes here are very simple but smart and right to the point. Very masculine. Imagine a guy who is very masculine and bold but at the same time very kind and nice, this would be his fragrance.

Considering the price, this could be 10/10 for the price. But just looking at it as a fragrance it is:
6.5/10

Mike In NJ

I picked up a bottle for around $30.
If you are a fan of terre d'hermes, then you can safely blind buy this one.
Long lasting bitter orange citrus, with woods and vetiver.
It’s a steal for the price.

S.A.Frags

Picked this fragrance up, as I already had the A l' Extreme version. It was not love with the first sniff but it grew on me very quickly with a couple of wears and it ended up as my signature summer fragrance. The most prominent note off my skin is a juicy bittersweet grapefruit, which makes it a lovely summer scent. It is supported by this clean sterilized- like vetiver and some pure watery notes, as well as some lavender and maybe some spices, which creates a very refreshing, earthy, not sporty result though. It can be worn in the warmer days of spring, summer and autumn, as a casual, office or even as a special occasion scent, but totally for day wear only. If you like vetiver you will love this. Enjoy!

Update: Performance on my skin is fantastic for a summer scent. It's longevity is about 7-8 hours, and with 5 sprays I get a decent 2 hours of moderate projection and moderate sillage.
The quality feels niche, just like the bottle itself. For its price it's a MUST for woody fragrance lovers.

I'm a big fan of both EN and l'etreme version but I'm really disappointed with EN sport. On paper it seems like a perfect idea to create a more versitle version which will suit more occasions but in my honest opinion it is just a diluted EN with a mediocre citrus note throught. I'm not fun of citrus notes and here I can smell it for way too long to my liking. Also performance and Longevity is the worst of the whole family, making it even worse. Don't get me wrong it's a pleasent scent which won't offend anyone and people will like, but it is just a whole different fragrance than EN to me and overall not worth it, but my harsh opinion is heavily influenced by my love for EN actually and it may suit a lot of people tbh

jjjooonnn

To me, the opening is the same as Encre Noire. The difference took a while to notice.

It's a light sent with some hidden aromatics. Very nice but worry my skin will soak it up and not let me enjoy the dry down much. Wish there was more of distinct opening

Ointmeal

This is a classy, soapy vetiver (not green or grassy) with an aquatic feel, supported by some woods and citruses in the beginning.

I absolutely *love* this but it's down to a skin scent rather fast. Overspraying doesn't help.

When you have to spray 15 times just to be able to grab a beer with this one, the entire bottle is gone in no time. How do you even use this ??

I adore the smell but the lack of performance is super annoying. I wish companies would stop putting out fragrances that don't work regardless of the price.

BigBearHK

Blind buy this sport flanker after buying the L'Extreme one (which is a complete WOW to me). It's definitely NOT good for sports occasions, yet carrying a special yet easy going masculine identity.
Definitely a good purfume experience considering the price tag

jarrid_steel

I picked this up a couple years ago and when I first sprayed it, I thought it smelled terrible.
It just wasn't at all good for me. Went on the shelf and collected dust ever since.
Fast forward to today and I decided to spray it on as my scent of the night to give it another chance to see if I would sell it or keep it and dang, I'm in love.
I guess some fragrances just need to grow on you sometimes.
I freakin' love this.
Masculine, woody, dark, earthy with just a touch of fresh sweetness. It's great. Glad I finally came around to it.

parfumapprentice

I absolutely love this scent. Absolutely gorgeous.

“Date with a goth chick” is hilarious and accurate but it’s more than that.

You can wear this on a dinner date at an upscale restaurant in by the water in the summer.

You can wear this to an indie bookstore or cafe during the day.

You can wear this to bed (the calming lavender permeates throughout).

You can write a novel wearing this.

Sweet, woody, “inky”, “watery” (hence sport).

Perfect scent for a rainy day or an intimate evening.

Cant get enough of this. They could (and probably should) charge more for this than they do but I’m glad they don’t.

Kasra_mahjoub

a bitter citrusy scent . great for office and meetings for smokey guys
not that much strong in longevity. according to quality of ingredients i think if this green juice was in another bottle from dior or YSL the price would be much more higher.
and you know when you wear it she loves to be at your nearest ;-)

MikeBravo76

Had to pick up this fragrance after reading all of the "dark" reviews about the Encre Noir line. No regrets! Wonderful scent with deep interesting notes. I would have named it Love Potion Azul.

ameda

First full wearing in warm sticky weather today - would not recommend. Not more fresh than OG EN. If anything it's warmer and softer. Vetiver and spice more prominent than the famous inky accord. Very pleasant but not at all 'sporty' by my reckoning. I could wish for better projection and duration. Well priced at discount and worth it. Curiously, I prefer both this flanker and the extreme edp to the original.

Perfumeissex

If I were to pick a few words to describe this perfume, they would be:
magnificent, magical, beautiful, high-end, gorgeous, complex, mystical, amazing.

I have all three Encre Noire perfumes, and I grab this perfume when I want to wrap myself around that beautiful Encre Noire magic in summer or warmer seasons. The sport variant is the lightest, most casual, and easiest to wear out of the three. However don't let the label "sport" fool you; it is not the sport that your sense are familiar in other perfumes; Encre Noire Sport is not as casual, watery, or effervescent as other sport perfumes. It is still deep, complex, substantial, and makes you sniff one more time to take yourself back to the magical land.

I find this to suit all seasons and all weathers like the Michelin Crossclimate's. Spring or summer? No problem. A little colder during fall? It'll still do. Even when it snows and you need to put a down jacket on? It will still hit the right spots to make you smile and be one with the perfume.

If you like vetiver or other Encre Noire variants, you must give this a try. Encre Noire Sport among other variants deserves a spot in the hall of fame.

I've had a bottle for over a year now and I just finished it and I'm so glad I took a chance on this one. I previously ordered a sample a couple of years ago and it was ok,but I wasn't impressed. Fragrance X had a bottle on sale so I took a chance and after having this bottle for over a year I can say for sure that I would buy this one again.
On my skin the citrus notes remain up front even after the dry down and I really pick up the aqua notes and vetiver as time goes on. To my nose it smells like someone took Aqva Bvlgari and added vetiver to really bring out a darker more musky feel. I think this is a very versatile summer scent that works at the office and out on the town. I found that the performance was better during the warmer parts of the year and I have gotten away with overspraying and it hangs around for about 10 hours.
I'm a fan of the Morillas summer aqua style scents so this one is right up my alley.
Because of the aqua notes and veviter,I would get a sample 1st instead of blind buying. Aqua notes seem to turn into a rotten egg smell on some people's skin so beware of that.

JayLee29

The vial I got smells awesome but I’m on my second order of this (one from Fragrancenet and now from Fragrancex) and both times the bottle smells a bit off. The one from Fragrancenet smelled really off and this one smells like medium off. Weaker, watered down. I checked them both in check fresh and at least the batch code is legit. Only a year old. But neither smells as good as the tester vial I got

I guess that’s just how it goes sometimes. Otherwise a great scent

….so I guess I’ll make a review based on my tester vial:

This absolutely IS a “sport” scent. It is very sporty to me. It’s light and youthful and kind of “mall scenty” with a lemon note and the vetiver. They did a good job on this one. I like extreme and sport better than the original edt, which lacks character (or maybe I got a weak bottle idk). Anyway it’s a youthful sporty lemony scent with hints of seriousness in the vetiver. I do get some woods in this which blends well with the composition

Overall I think it’s a solid buy if you can find a fresh bottle

scent- 8.5/10
uniqueness-6/10
value-9/10
performance- 7/10
overall-8/10

Blind buy, but I had previous experience with A L'Extreme and the OG. I consider the original Encre Noire a minor masterpiece, however I was somewhat disappointed by A L'Extreme. Which was surprising to me given how positive EN fans were/are about A L'Exterme.

My surprise re: Extreme is exceeded by my reaction to Sport. Nathalie Lorson is not merely an accomplished perfumer--she is a magician. Or perhaps a sorcerer, as she is capable of conjuring a majestic and glorious concoction of citrusy woody vetiver out of apparently inexpensive inputs. It certainly holds its own against higher priced classics in the genre (i.e. Guerlain Vetiver and Tom Ford Grey Vetiver). Wizardry.

Some reviewers tell us this fragrance is mislabeled ("Sport"), and I agree with them. But the name is just marketing, after all, and who cares about that, really. Rather, I think the bigger take away here is that we ought to demand more of our perfumers and (especially!) the firms procuring their services. As with the original EN, I keep coming back to wondering why I should ever spend the equivalent of grocery bill for a large family on fragrances which are inferior to a bottle I can procure all day long on the 'Bay for $27 (shipping included). This is better than A LOT of scents which sell for literally >5x its price; it's blended better, it's more unique, it's clever, etc.

As far as the line goes, IMO this is just slightly behind EN, but well ahead of A L'Extreme (which struck me as disjointed and strange. I think it's the benzoin and patchouli in the base?). Conceptually, EN is just crazy unique and is a significant accomplishment, but as a slightly-more-mainstream flanker Sport utterly and completely bangs as well. The opening--a pleasant, smooth, and not bitter grapefruit--is gorgeous, and it seamlessly gives way to the (in)famous EN DNA. I know very little about the art/science of perfumery, but this strikes me as a not particularly simple thing to achieve? Regardless, my bottle is in my summer rotation, and if you're a vetiver fan and have been put off by the somewhat mixed reviews, then I encourage you to just take the jump and buy a bottle. I love vetiver and I absolutely did not need to sample this one ahead of time. It's way better than I was lead to believe.

WojciechLozko

Dark fragrance, similar to the original. Smells like grasses and woods but I don't get the citruses. Certainly an interesting fragrance that works well with layering if you're into that. Decent performance but can be quite polarising to some noses.

pilotdc

I don't really get a sporty feel from this flanker... like I probably wouldn't wear it to the gym or a summer league game, but it's great nonetheless. Still a lot of the dark richness of the original. I think it's great for church and running errands. Can work for the office if a bit of darkness is the character you want to express.
Just another banger frag from Lalique

mihuco1217

Blind bought this and it was such a great introduction to my love for Vetiver fragrances. This strangely lasts long on my skin. It started out so weak when I first purchased it, but after a month of wearing I can normally still smell this on me when I get home from work.

Question: Will it be redundant if I get a bottle of Grey Vetiver? It's not the most unique Vetiver fragrance but I just love how clean and versatile it smells. The other choice I have is Vetyverio EDT but I know the performance on that is not that great :(

Kingskid07

Encre Noir Sport is a nice freshie, but honestly, it doesn't get much playtime from my collection. It's different from anything within my collection (which makes it a keeper), but it's just not "special" enough. That doesn't mean that it is not enjoyed; it just doesn't get worn as much as my other frags. It has a touch of classic or old school vibes going on, but is still modern enough. If I ran out it today, I would more than likely not repurchase it; for the price, there are simply far better options that boast a much cheaper price tag~

RobbieX

Just ordered a 100ml bottle. So I'll use up my 50ml I've had for a while. This is a woody earthy, fresh, gem of a juice. I prefer this over the original.

aldo91

Blind bought this gem,i absolutely love this.
A very safe fragrance for summer.

Space_Carnation

Encre Noire in a tank top. Encre Noire is a secluded bookish vampire visiting a grave and Encre Noire Sport is that scene in Twilight where they play baseball- It's good, it's tinted blue, and it's a little bit better for mass appeal.

Takes a while for the scent to "wake up" and be anything interesting - I don't start saying "wow" for about an hour.

NecessaryExistence

This fragrance is amazing. I get citrus in the opening, then it develops to vetiver with a watery touch. It reminds me of a cool wet forest, where you can smell the dirt and roots. Very appropriate for Spring, Summer and Autumn. This I has become a great dumb reach for me. It works casually and formally in my opinion. The only negative is that it doesn’t last long.

This is my favourite in the Encre Noire line, followed by the original Encre Noire. I could not stand à l’extrême. Sport is the most versatile and mass-appealing Encre Noire. Yet it is still very unique.

Omarion7

This is an absolute banger for what it costs and what it does!
Wearable blue-ish aquatic vetiver experience, Compliment getter.

IMO this is under-rated and definitely the best in the Encre Noire line.

ScentChimp

The three fragrances in this line have been reviewed to death, so I’ll just say of the three that I own, I prefer this one the most. All three are outstanding though.

whatisthis1134

fresh, cucumbery blend with nutty, grassy, inky base, cant find myself a good reason to walk around smelling as such. at least this is well blend and affordable

fragrantlyenhanced

this could easily cost more. it offers so much. it's unique and it retains some of the dark wood vibe the og has but so much green watery freshness to it. this one is a lot more approachable. opening splash of citrus. it reminds me of damp woods in the forest soil covered with sticks and leaves. trees covered with moss with a sunny fresh breeze. to me its also feels nostalgic somehow. love the forest vibe. average longevity first 2-3 hours good projection after that its 2-3 hours skin scent, so bout 6 hours total with nice projection for as long as its in the air.. the vetiver is the clean type, not harsh. id not say its heavy vetiver based necessarily cuz of the way its blended you are getting a lot more cypress / dark wood / soil / water combo. so well blended. wouldnt call it a compliment getter but occasionally i get one from it. the bottle also is really nice and it has a subtle detail when you shine it against light the bottle turns blue!! instant favorite. unique cheap natural smellin freshie

dexilio

Went from just ok to a love after a while. This smells like a jog at dawn in the forest where everything is coated with the morning dew. Mysterious but somehow comforting. Very unique.

benlippi

Great quality, smells very woodsy with a dark vibe while still having some freshness to it. Good scent for going on a date with a goth chick. Excellent for the price.

CloudAtlas77

If Encre Noire smells like a dark forest in the fall, Sport smells like the rain on the leaves. Very fresh, kind of aquatic vibes too. Best suited for gray spring or summer days, raindrops on your window. The scent is not uplifting though, like many fresh fragrances out there, it keeps the dark (kind of melancholic too?) vibes from the Encre Noire.

lucian21

Decent longevity and quality ingredients. If you like Terre d Hermes there is a high probability that you will also like EN Sport, even if it is more mature and dark. It goes great in the warm season despite the reputation of its bigger brother Encre Noire. Why Sport? I don't know, but I see Gomez Addams wearing this perfume when practicing sword fighting, rooftop golf or knife throwing. So it makes sense

pbng80

A lighter and aquatic version of Encre Noire. However, I find the performance to be below par. Projection and sillage is soft. Good vetiver scent for the price.

AndSand

I've had Encre Noire Sport for about a year now. I originally got the a l'Extreme version and love it to this day. A very dark, rich, brooding scent.

I also just got the OG and it's very good as well (if you like manly, forest fresh woodsy scents, of which I'm a big fan). Terre d'Hermes edt and parfum are in my collection as well.

This one is fresh and lively in the opening. You definitely get the Encre Noire dna. As most people and YouTube reviewers have said, it starts off a bit boring and generic.

But...

Give it a bit of time to sit on your skin and meld with your natural skin chemistry and this develops into a very nice, fresh, slightly sweet scent. It also has a slightly rich, deeper vibe as it dries down even further.

Is it the best fresh frag you can get? No.

But it's a great alternative to the sweet and fresh staples in your collection. It does add a bit of class and has niche fragrance vibes.

If you want a classy fresh take on Vetiver, this is a great one to get. And I have to say, get the entire collection. For under $85 dollars, you can get the whole line. In my opinion they're worth 3x the price you pay.

A classy appealing scent for a great price (you can say that for every one of these bottles.)

Try it, you might end up really enjoying it.

FragZappa

I oversprayed this today, It's stronger than you expect. It's a cool fragrance though, fresh and somehow dark. I wore it today on a cool, wet spring day, it was nice but strong. The original Encre Noir will probably always be my favorite though.

mrperq

I have all three now.

This is by far my least favorite of the three. Which isn't to say its a bad fragrance, it isn't. Its great. Its just that the other two are so much better at what the line is trying to do.

It has some use the others dont though, and thats really hot weather. This is what I'll settle for in times I need my encre noire kick but weather doesn't suit it. At this price, imo, certainly worth it.

I can understand why people who dont like vetiver would prefer sport, as its much more to the background compared to the others, but honestly if thats the case I'd probably recommend getting neither. Encre noire and xtreme are best at doing what encre noire wants to do. I think Sport is more for someone who likes encre noire so much it really needs something to wear in weather not really suiting it, not as is often said a vetiver for people who dont like vetiver.

The opening has some citric smell, with the smell of regular encre noire at half intensity and aquatics in the background. Later on something powdery, soft and clean subtly joins the composition.

It performs not as good as the other two, but exceptionally well for an aquatic and certainly should stay with you all day.

All in all a great scent, only losing points because the others in the line are such masterpieces.

As a first buy I would recommend Xtreme. If you like that, get the regular one too. If you still need more, you'll be, like me, more than happy with this addition.

Philippe De Montauvant

I like to spray some Rasasi Fattan on top of this. O. M. G. ! Otherworldly!

0ISmellBest

A great nostalgic scent. My parents used to take me out in their rowboat. They would paddle really far down the creek deep into the woods. I'd then wakeup floating and have to swim home. This is a watery and woody scent like getting smacked in the head with a paddle deep in the woods. Dark yet fresh. Watery yet ouch.

Fuder95

Great scent !!! 0 performance -.-

Vlad Gorneanu

I've been using Encre Noir A L'extreme for awhile now and I love it but the temperature has started to grow and it's not entirely pleasant anymore with it's darkness that it's best suited for rainy chilly weather. So I found myself wanting to stick to the DNA but something that can be worn in the hotter sunny weather. This is definitely an Encre Noir, you can smell it at first sniff but it's brighter, more pleasant when the sun warms you up. Even though the A L'extreme has the better drydown, this is still a fantastic fragrance that won't let you miss the EN smell but will make you feel more comfortable in the hotter days. For the 20ish EUR price it's absolutely a no brainer if you want that vetiver smell. Will be using this a lot this summer and for the price I can always buy another bottle. If you ever smelled any of the EN, go blind buy on this.

Farideali24

Great fragrance love 10/10.

BigBobRoss

Smells like a vampire

smellmyfingers

I think I've already reviewed this, but I've had it over a year now. So let's have another look at this gem.

Very versatile. In colder temperatures it's very cypress forward. In hotter weather the citrus stands out more, as citrus tends to do.

The grapefruit does seem to last almost all the way through in warmer temperatures--but not in a nauseating way like Light Blue Forever. It's not a photorealistic grapefruit like that either. More like the grapefruit spritz in a gin and tonic. I wouldn't necessarily call it refreshing, just clean and masculine.

I might avoid this in high heat, since the drydown is an earthy vetiver crossed with a freshly laundered linen and might feel too heavy. Brilliant for when the nights are still somewhat cool after those hot days though. Could easily start the day with Dior Homme Cologne and then finish off the day with this. I've layered the two and enjoyed that.

By far the most wearable of the line.

HoustonJr

I just bought this as I’m always in the hunt for a new vetiver based frag. It’s decent. Despite what others say, I see this more as a fall/winter than a spring/summer scent. The Woodson Ed’s and musk could get funky on the hottest of days. I think I’d prefer this for a family gathering in cooler weather. Getting together for a football game on a brisk Sunday afternoon with a fire going and a cold drink in hand.

Claviator

Wet joot, eucalyptus and green leafy plants (cutting hedges) - as in the original Encre Noir. But toned down to a not hysterically strange level. Then there's some "freshness" added, tropical fruits and some "sweet" citrusy scent. But really not sweet, and not really fresh as in other-perfumes-fresh. Just not as unfresh as the original Noire. And the faint smell of burnt plastic on top of that.

Gandalf wears this at the gym.

I've never smelled anything that resembles of this mix of scents, even though the individual parts of the smell isn't unusual at all.

This one is almost wearable (unlike the original Encre Noir that is not, with its simple, provocative and not very pleasant scent).

I think you should not blind buy this. Try it - maybe you'll like it. But probably not.

AJPkayla

Blind bought this one. Only blind buy safe if you like vetiver. And if you do, be prepared to be amazed if you like earthy scents. It’s wonderfully crafted.

Not for hot Summer days or high heat though. This is a perfect Spring and Fall scent. Also would be wonderful on rainy days. Be warned though it’s a very earthy scent and will definitely linger even after just two sprays. Even being the Sport flanker, this is no light weight vetiver though and it will linger with you for up to 6 hours easy. If you want a lighter fresher vetiver, this isn’t it.

49424

Clean, very clean, possibly a much cleaner, more cypress/vetiver version of Terre d’Hermés. This woody, masculine scent sits fairly close to the skin rather like freshly washed linen and boasts excellent longevity. A safe fragrance, which should not offend and is very affordable, yet exudes refined wealth. Cool bottle design and quality sprayer. Unbeatable value for money.

greensala

One of the favourites from my summer collection and always love wearing it on hot days. Encre Noir Sport stands apart in the sea of summer fragrances which smell exactly the same at times.

M!KE

It used to be very good!
Now Encre Noire Sport anno domini 2022 is flatter version of itself.
Longevity haven't changed much since 2013 and latter batches, but projection/sillage is nearly non-existent.
At least it isn't as unbalanced as its predecessor (EN) and successor (A'L EXTREME).

The Nose that Knows

I have over 100 fragrances in my collection and haven't worn this in a long time. I wore this fragrance today and received zero complements and I also had two co-workers mentioned to me that I smell very old....lol.
This fragrance has done its time. Unless you're a fragrance collector don't bother buying it.

woyopol

This smells to me, at least on the opening, like a new carpet. You know, this artificial, plasticky smell, which surprisingly isn't unpleasant and later develops to some forest note. I like it. My private note is 6/10.

Gothenburg85

I was surprised by how much I didn't like this, at least initially. I have EN, tested Extreme (very good), and blind bought ENS based on what I read here. From first spray to drydown, I found it linear and not fresh/sporty/aquatic at all. There is a freshness and vibrancy that is seriously lacking. This gives a strange sort of thickness, a stale slightly suffocating musky haze, that makes me think of distant cleaners. If EN is all the best parts of churchy incensey smells, this is all the worst parts of a nursing home with the windows closed.

I honestly feel the others are somewhat safe to blind buy, and vibe with what reviews said, this is NOT. I can get myself into most anything I smell, but this one smells cheap and stale to me. My only blind buy I regret, even for under $30, which says a lot. There's no situation I want to smell like this.

All that said...... I still have hope something needs to sort itself out in the scent, maybe in my nose with this one, so I'll come back to this in the summer and see if anything changed.

Dislike
Spring/Summer
Day

Final Thoughts: any sportiness is instantly and suffocatingly crushed by the thick cleaning product haze that chokes me out. Sad because I love the original EN and others like it. TBD...

2/10 so far

(3/23/23 EDIT): it's still a no for me dawg. The grapefruit must be mixing with nutmeg or a musk to create this stuffy not fresh, old smelling, not sporty, smell. Not pleasant.

Ace22

This is an amazing freshie for the man that doesn't like nautica. Fresh scents are often over citrusy or too alcoholic. But this one changes all of that. Don't get me wrong though, it's definitely a crowd pleaser. I feel like it's tricky to convey woody, fresh, and crowd pleaser all in one scent but this one very much does that. The smell is like a dew soaked forest on an early spring morning. The fresh, clean, linen smell comes together with a woody, almost sharp, and slight fresh musky watery smell to give it an almost shower gel smell. It's like if you took Irish spring and gave it a lot more of a woody and fresh linen smell but it doesn't give off cheap soap smell either. It's a very light woody take on a freshie that I know I'll be reaching for over and over and at this price point, I won't feel guilty for doing it either.

ivarkwant

Very nice smelling! Clean lavender, some aquatic notes, and of course, lots of vetiver. The vetiver feels very fresh though, not very dark or offensive. People seem to get good performance, but I get quite horrible performance actually; perhaps an hour or so. Perhaps it's my skin, or a bad batch. At least it's very cheap, so being quite liberal with the sprays is not an issue.

Edit: after letting it sit for a few months, the longevity has gotten better. It is not fantastic by any means, but perfectly acceptable.

Johnay

Fresh notes with big dose of vetiver creates a very unique, appealing and serious aura. You'll smell like a men among those all metrosexual, sweet and synthetic scents. Big love!

vbs221

Every once in a while, I wonder if I need this if I already have Encre Noire. But then one morning, I wake up craving a fresh fragrance. Nothing heavy. Something fresher than EN.

This is it. A perfect morning fragrance. Smells like a relaxing morning in nature on a cool spring day. Probably the best fresh fragrance out there. Why smell like a shower gel when you can smell like a morning forest.

realestrater444

Do not get this one, trust me read my name. It doesn’t even smell that pleasant to begin with and I can’t think of anything I would use this for over any other fragrance I have, even for 30$ it’s not worth trying. If you want a clean citrus vetiver done so much better for even cheaper get Acqua Essenziale Colonia.

JamesPawn

performance-9/10 very strong stuff good beach scent and it kicks on hot sunny days

JayDillen

People comparing this to Hermes edt must be joking. This smells almost exactly like Jimmy Choo man ice. The vetiver here is very soft and faint, but it's there. This is a very very light casual scent that kind of resembles a freshy I guess, nothing really sporty about this to my nose. It's got that mass appealing vibe to it. Which is probably the musk and the lavender. I do like this but it's pretty close to the skin throughout its lifespan and it really only lasts about 4 hours and then it's gone

It has a slight aquatic vibe to it for some reason. It reminds me of ADG pour homme at times and because of the synthetic lemon note slightly of Issey Miyake pour homme edt. But mostly it's very similar to Jimmy Choo man ice. It has a strong dish soap lemon note throughout its lifespan that is somewhat annoying because so many frags have it. And that note is what I don't like about Jimmy Choo man ice. It gives it a cheap feel, but it's not as annoying as in Jimmy Choo man ice and the vetiver kind of distracts you away from it for the most part

I was wavering on buying a full bottle because of how close it is to Jimmy Choo man ice, but I pulled the trigger because I think it has a nice vetiver note that is distinct and it seems to be higher quality than Jimmy Choo man ice which lacks the prominent vetiver note and has way more lemon dish soap vibe to it. If you're a big fan of vetiver like myself you will want this

Encre Noire sport is a casual every day runner type scent that is fairly masculine and sexy without being too old school. It's vetiver for the new school. But it's not ground breaking or anything. It's a $30 fragrance for a reason. It's the kind of frag you'd wear around the house or to the grocery store and enjoy smelling yourself and people will be pleased to smell you as well. If you're thinking about getting Jimmy Choo man ice get this instead for sure. It's for all ages imo. It has a youthful vibe as well as a masculine vibe. Pretty versatile in that sense

It's about as Sporty as a chess tournament. Still a great fragrance though. Excellent entry level scent to vetiver, but in high, high heat, it gets weird. Hard to say how, but references to bug spray below resonate.

sahlinisis

Its ok, but gives me bug spray vibes.

Also my favourite fragrance. It's just a masterpiece. Wonderfull cypress/vetiever smell tonned a little bit down and mixed with the citrusses and sea notes. Perfect. The main complain to other people is mostly the added Sport in the name, but who cares about that? Longevity is easily 7-8h, which is more than fine. Projection is nice in first 1,5-2 hours maybe, then it sits closer to the skin, but newer fades away, it can still detect it. For the price you pay, almost niche quality! Fantastic!

rhynot_ryan

Blind buy. This has quickly become a favorite scent of mine. It's one of the most complimented fragrances I have, I'm almost assured to get at least one person commenting whenever I wear it. Perhaps it's not the most complex fragrance, but it's clean, fresh, and extremely pleasant. I get 6+ hours of enjoyment out of it, and for the very reasonable price, I'm more than happy to carry a small decant with me to reapply when necessary. I have all three in the Encre Noir family, of which I'm quite a fan of, and Sport is the most used of the trio for me, given I live in a warmer climate (South Florida).

Mystères du Château de Dé

A stoned, chill, dry and sunny version of Encre Noire. Pleasant grounded Mediterranean cypress with vetiver resin, too. I don't find it deeply green or dark or wet. If it's a forest it's a rocky one above the sea. Has the citrus and aromatics that Italians and Spaniards lay on their earthy colognes. Nothing pushy, or plush, or stingy, or edgy, nothing "design" or "niche".

Encre Noire OG has been toned down so much over the many years. I remember it's debut. It was very conceptual. Now not so much.

And with Sport, we are in languid tones and the impact reminds me of Light Blue Sun. You'll like the fragrance being with you, if you're relaxing, not moving, and taking in the sights and sounds and other smells. Maybe a very soft breeze now and then. It's very calm.

Sport is pleasant but I wouldn't wear it to an office or for sports. There's nothing briskly business like nor bracingly sporty about this. Lorson can create those, too. Good scent for the terrace. It's obviously descended from Lorson's Encre Noire but she could have blended Sport for an Italian or Spanish perfumery.

Lorson has made dozens of great fragrances now available in the $15-39 (discounted) range. She's proven her genius for this and I'm very grateful for her artisty which includes providing high value to the consumer. How many times have you tried and enjoyed a Nathalie Lorson fragrance and the consumer part of you says, how does she do it? A perfume chemist could tell us. But Lorson could have just as easily been working all these years two or three price points above many of her fragrances, all the hits for example, and would the expensive ones have been better?

Just think about that for a moment. Respect. A very "class act".

Trueblood84

Encre Noire Sport is a nice fresher take on Vetiver. To me it smells like dandelions in the spring with a Vetiver background. It has good projection and excellent longevity, but I just don't find myself reaching for it often because I don't really want to smell like dandelions. 7 out of 10

Joey3105

Stop reading all the negative reviews. If you want something super fresh, clean and unique just go ahead and buy it. Blind bought and received mine today. Only complaint is that I didn't buy this much earlier.

miljenko

I got really hyped about this fragrance and it's 10x better than I expected it to be. Not really nische quality as some people say, but it's waaaaaay too cheap for what it offers. It's not offensive either... I can guarantee it because my dad hates stuff that smells "strong" and he said I smell like I just got out of a shower.

Roddo

It's that slightly oddball, left field, character with an original personality, all of their own, that you can't really help but like. I like me some originality, individuality and character, so I'm in.

For some reason, although it's overwhelmingly voted as some Spring/ Summer 'freshie', it's a Spring/ Summer freshie that I'm often drawn to reach for on a cold Winter's day, too.

This is, also, one of my own mother's favourites of the ones that she smells off me, when I visit. So I gave her a decant in one of the 5ml sprayers, I ordered; which she was happy to have. She talked, one day, about liking Opium and I suggested buying her some for her Christmas but she's one of those 'don't spend a lot of money on me' mothers. She knows about the, borderline, miraculous price that this can be got for and she likes it so much that she told me to buy her a bottle of this, for her Christmas, instead!

So, there are 108 people and counting, voting this unisex, and one of those people is me.

I think it's appeal isn't really restricted to a definable age group, gender, demographic or time of the year, etc., so much as it may be a simple case of: you're either going to love it or just think it's, maybe, quite nice or okay. I can't imagine anyone hating it; unless their friends tease them and say it's 'like lysol', as someone below said, (it isn't) and that leads them, now, to denounce something that they had previously liked, enough, to put on before stepping out of the house and, not only that but, join in with the hate and resolve to never wear it again.

I get the impression, from the fragrance, that those aren't the kind of people, for whom, it's for, anyway (how's my grammar???). Not that it's been designed with that purpose in mind, I am sure. It's just ended up that way. I feel like it's for original thinkers and I think it's, delightfully, divisive in ways that I, greatly, enjoy.

You'll either, totally, luuurve it and call it the fragrance bargain of the century or you will just think it's quite nice, okay, maybe a little bit 'odd' and not really for you as it's too different from what all of your friends usually wear.

It IS the fragrance bargain of the century, by the way.

tonci

smells like wet pine tree and citruses.8/10

Roman86

This is basically a lighter and fresher Encre Noire. If you have the original and want the same scent but lighter and fresher then buy this one. If you have the Sport version and want the same scent but stronger and earthier go with the original Encre Noire.

Muggleslayer

I'm not sure whose idea it was to make Encre Noire, but sporty. It's a little like bringing your jock boyfriend to the Goth club. But he seems to be into it, so... cool?

JasKiew

Fresher and less darker less moody version of EN but the main EN scent still blends in very well balanced in this sport version. Probably more acceptable for folks who finds EN really too dark and depressive. Still as earthy as it's big bro and seems to hold the scent longer than EN when I compared it on each hands. The addition of citrus grapefruit and bergamot gives it a boost where these notes blends with the cypress and Vetiver pretty damn well. Much easier to take. Unlike EN where sometimes I feel it is rather too dark and it sorta envelopes around to create a sinister mood or effect. This sport do away with that

Navid3

Got this one today it's a love for sure. I have the whole Encre noire line and i love each and everyone of them.

Encre noir sport really reminds you of the original but softer around the edges which i associate with grapefruit and lavender. It's close enough to the original to say that you don't "need" them both. But the delicate difference make me absolutely love both in their own ways. Longevity is the same pretty much like the og but maybe projects a little more.
A l'extreme is very different from these two that's a must have. I have smelled many lines from different houses and still encre noir is my favorite line. Done by the master herself Natalie larsson👌

BigBuck

Freshie/sporty version of Encre Noir A L’Venture due to the addition of grapefruit and subtraction of benzoin and sandalwood. The top note is a grassy, earthy vetiver that says “I’m a vetiver fragrance despite my fresh dry down.” Juicy grapefruit and a softer vetiver than the top note pair beautifully and dominate the dry down.

PleadInsanity

Not really sure what the thought process was behind this release.. somewhat like trying to turn a funeral into a pool party

rupmac

smell: green and fresh vetiver, masculine, and most likely office scent.
rating: 8 of 10
projection: 3-5ft
longevity: 4-5 hrs
occasion: office, meeting.
not suitable for: dating (this is not sweet or romantic fragrances)

Manam

A stunning vetiver perfume for vetiver lovers. I think this must be priced more than what it is currently going for. Upon first spray you will be greeted with smell of freshly shaved woods. The bergamot and grapefruit doesn't stand out by themselves, but only compliment the woody elements. The dry down is an unapologetic earthy vetiver which is very elegant and gentlemanly. The sillage is moderate and there are times it plays hide and seek. I wasn't expecting compliments with this as this is not everyone's cup of tea, but I did receive compliments from my wife and a couple of colleagues at my work place. In my opinion it's not a scent for beginners and it's best suited for someone who is 30+ or is tired of all the generic ones out there. Definitely worth owning the bottle especially considering the price point.
On my skin - longevity -6 hours.
Projection - strong for max 1 hour, then goes off and comes back for another 1 hour. Skin scent for rest of the time.

Tman98

This is fantastic. Excellent value for money, lasts hours and is a pretty unique scent. Smells like wet grass - fresh but still somewhat earthy and dark. I recommend this to anyone who wants to try something a bit different, but still pleasing and excellent value for money.

smellmyfingers

Reviewed this before but have to add-on that this is like a less citrusy, more vetiver-leaning Dior Homme Cologne. If these scents were siblings, DHC is the fun, outgoing one—and this is the calmer, measured conversationalist.

I have and love both. My summertime mainstays.

thewtchg

This smells great.

The cypress and nutmeg play together beautifully here, establishing a dark and rich background. Whatever harshness or bitterness is leftover from the combination is mellowed out by the smooth aquatic notes at play with the bergamot and grassy vetiver, and delicate musk.

My only gripe with the bottle and the only reason I'm not so in love is that the atomizer on my particular bottle is pretty horrific. As opposed to a fine mist, my atomizer lets loose fine droplets which serve to cover much less surface area. As a result, I've sprayed more of this than I otherwise would have for the number of times I've worn it.

I've seen a few mentions of bitter elements in other reviews, and I really think that the nutmeg note here will be very make-or-break for some people.

This was a blind buy for me. If you have doubts about this try and find a sample.

S4ni

it smells like grass in the rainy season, dark, can be used in formal situations because there is vetiver, or just an activity at home. the smell is love or hate but i like it. I prefer this to encre noire og because it's lighter with citrus

dhmatyas88

It was a blind buy, the first time i sprayed it, i was a little bit dissapointed beacuse i smelled a very strong citrus, but the end of the day i fell in love with this fragrance, and the other days i never smelled again the citrus. So gentlemans, its fresh its woody kinda dark masculin and feels like i walking on a darkforest with a suit on :D. If you over 18 you gonna like this man fragrance. Very special.

QuincesI

Quite different from the OG Encre Noire, in my opinion.

There's obviously something in there from the original - the vetiver, the cypress - but it's as if the version was intended for someone ten years younger, someone from a different background, with somewhat different interests. First, for posterity's sake, I'd like to point out that the top notes are giving me a "walnut" feel, not sure where it comes from. Then, it's mostly the aquatic side that comes to me, but an almost sweet aquatic, club soda rather than sparkling water, a little floral-lavender, like a young man's perfume at the beginning of the age of seduction and who would pretend to be a flower.

Honestly, it's a scent that I find more sensual (even sexual) than the first one, more seductive, and it really reminds me of the image of a heartthrob (like Belmondo in The Magnificent One, if he had been 20 years old in 2010), lounging on a deckchair, juicy pink-red grapefruit swimming trunks, lying by the pool and staring at you from behind his sunglasses before... coming to get you off your feet a bit. Not a real big bad guy, a nice charmer, touching and not the worst, but still.

My perception is certainly biased because of the name "sport" and all that it connotes, and certainly also because the original version sets the bar high in my heart. It's a very pleasant perfume, which deserves and will probably find buyers, but it negates all the tacitness, the calmness (the phlegmatic, almost) that I find so beautiful and attractive in the original.

Gidimeister

Considerably softens that classic EN inkiness and thrusts the DNA into warm weather situations. This fragrance is less daring that EN and A L'Extreme.

I get a soft, refreshing spritz of grapefruit in the opening that eases into the familiar EN DNA in the base, safe enough for almost any occasion in the warmer months. Sadly, it lacks the performance of the other fragrances in this line.

It is not a bad fragrance, maybe even a good one. But it does not stand out to me in any real way. It's had its soul taken out it, EN domesticated, lacking the subversive brilliance of the other two fragrances in this line. I would not miss it in my collection.

nasernoori87

حدود دو هفتست خریداری کردم و به رایحش معتاد شدم.تنها مشکلش پخش بوشه که فوق العاده ضعیفه و باعث شده طی دو هفته نصفش مصرف بشه

Ole_Factory

Desperately wanted to like this cologne (love green, piney-type scents) but I kept smelling this harsh, bitter element that I didn't like. Realized it reminded me of bug spray and ever since then I haven't been able to enjoy it.

Otherwise it's a strong scent with good performance. So close to being good but I can't get over that bug spray note. Will try the a l'extreme next.

cedrat

Surprisingly fine-smelling fragrance for the price. Extremely good for the office. The first hour of this fragrance is very enjoyable. The second hour brings a smokiness with a bit of acidity that can be a bit strong. From the third hour onward it's pretty much a pleasant skin scent. Works very well if you want to make a quiet impression.

Markja

I probably enjoy this one the most , recently tried them all and this is the one I like , I like the more fresher vetiver and it gives me a similar vibe to mr fords grey vetiver, nice and fresh and projects a little for an hour and some , but sticks around for hours as a nice scent bubble , much less iso e than the OG ,,, like it but meh 6/10

mostafa385

Good fragrance for those who like woody & earthy notes. Smells good but not special by any means. Performance was good it stayed with me the whole working day. Projection/sillage not sure but I think it’ll be average or below. I don’t think I will get a full bottle.

Em Eych

The way the notes combine here remind me of a wet earthy forest floor with a winter-fresh twist to it. It is def fresh spicy, woody and earthy, I personally don't notice the citrus as much, it kind of enhances other notes instead of being noticable by itself.

Lasts a for a pretty long time, silage isn't very large but still noticeable. Very good value for people who like woody/spicy scents that are fresh, but like the winter air and not the summer breeze.

mathghamhan

This is so close to Tom Ford Grey Vetiver it's crazy. The citrus/white floral combo comes across very soapy to me. To be fair I think I perceive that combo much more pungently than most. Very good value for a very classy, clean scent. It isn't for me, but this is undeniably high quality.

Philip John Costas

The cypress and vetiver give this frag an otherworldly, even moody, vibe.

Sadly the longevity is mediocre and the projection even more so. Double your usual sprays if you want this to last longer than 4 hours!

Very affordable however.

Great stuff, one of those fragrances that grew on me. Didn't like it in the beggining but now it's my signature. Doesn't last that long on my skin and that's the only issue, still not bad, more than 6h. Will buy again after my first bottle!

La Nuit Noir

Takes the original DNA and turns it into a watery bergamot opening with soft vetiver, cypress, & a slight lavender touch.

Definitely the most wearable version of Encre Noire but you lose the power and mystery of the original and what is carried into A L'Extreme - however you do still get a good amount of woods that make this a great fresh woody fragrance.

Heard this described as the 'rays of sunshine' after the 'rain in the forest' (that the original is) which I think sums it up really well.

heltondanilo

If you want Terre d'Hermes DNA, cheaper, don't even think twice, the earthy grapefuit woody combination is right here, and it is as good as Terre d'Hermes.

I was considering getting Eau Givree, gave up, this one does it for me!

sinkan

Deep wood and a mysterious earthiness, it isn't really my thing but I doesn't have anything against it. Probably for a guy 20+ yo but if worn right 17+ can also wear it. Smells extremly manly aswell. Cheap but smells hella expensive and you won't really smell this on another dude so it's kinda unique. Def a winter/fall perfume, it could be worn in the summer/spring but it's easier to pull it off in the colder weather. School/office scent, maybe date perfume if you feel like it's the right one for the oufit, however a sweeter scent is a little bit more safe on a date.

HelloooooNnnewman

I got a sample of this and will most likely purchase a bottle. I dont know what to compare this to as I have never smelled Vetiver type frags before. I researched the encre noire line and decided this would be the way to go. I dont know how to describe this scent, but I like it. It's not like anything else in my small collection. Maybe like wet grass....with some fruity vibes. Its good, it works.

J_TheWombKilla

Mike from Coherence wears this.

ssiittyyuu

Just two words: mysterious earthiness. It starts a really sophisticated grapefruit. After the drydown it isn’t too heavy, it’s aromatic and earthy. It gives you a fresh vibe thanks to the aquatic note. I haven’t tried the OG Encre Noir, but this one is really charming & easy to wear. It was a blind buy for me. I bought it second-hand with ~96 ml, it was just 15€!! A cheap scent, but a quality one.

Update: We didn’t get along well, I sold it. I smelt something in it, what I don’t like. Blind bought it, so I recommend you to test it before you buy it.

vbs221

When I got the OG Encre Noire, I thought I didn’t need the Sport anymore. They smell similar, but the OG is woodier with more Chanel Sycomore vibes, which I absolutely love.

But now, a few weeks later, I revisited the Sport. It’s so good. I recently got to smell Tom Ford’s Grey Vetiver, and now I realize Sport has a very similar use case to Grey Vetiver. They’re both fresh clean but also slightly green and mature vetiver fragrances. The main differences are this uses grapefruit whereas Grey Vetiver smells like it’s bergamot (even though it lists grapefruit as well).

But really, this does a very similar job to Grey Vetiver, just like how the OG does a very similar job to Sycomore. If you like Grey Vetiver, you should consider this.

3NO7

Smells like the original but with aquatic notes added.

The original smells like a smoldering wood fire deep in a forest during cold dreary weather.

A nice smell, but a distinct smell to be sure.

Add some aquatic summer notes to it and you got this.

Nick68

I picked this up as a cheap blind buy after reading the reviews on here and already having the Original and Extreme versions.

I really like it but I don’t think I actually needed to buy it. It’s incredibly similar to Essence Pure Pour Homme by S.T. Dupont which I already have in my collection.

Bjørn98

Blind bought 100 ml of this since it was cheap and based on reviews and the notes it seemed promising. However I had no idea what vetiver smelled like and I think that's the note which throws me off the most. To me this is very bitter, aromatic, a bit peppery, some hints of ginger and grapefruit but mostly it's one note that really sticks out which I'm guessing is the vetiver. I can only imagine this fragrance on an old man or even old lady. Would not recommend this to a man below his 40's and definitely try this one out before buying.

+ Long lasting (had to wash it off unfortunately)
+ Very distinct smell, if you like vetiver (which I think is the most prominent note) you will probably love this one
+ Price (bought mine for 24$ for 3.3 oz / 100 ml)

- Didn't like the smell at all
-To me it's very bitter and aromatic in an unpleasant way
- Not for younger people in my opinion. Smells like old people would wear this. 35-40 + at least. Try before buy.

Guest2563

Dark but fresh grapefruit, one of the best deal you can find at this price point, very unique and still wearable.

Naturally Fresh slightly sweet very long lasting.

just wow perfume. Its so unique on its own. Initially it seems like woody but after some time fresh. It blends so perfectly that it doesn't choke your nose senses. Must try gem from the house of lalique, its so unique and smooth that you will surely enjoy it. 💌

k12

This doesnt go sweet or lactonic but has a class that absolutely reminds my of my beloved Ex Nihilo Vetiver Moloko.
Encre Noire Sport pleases with a freshness intermixed with smooth Vetiver that i find uplifting and fresh for any occasion. I love it immediately and gives a nice alternative to my beloved Vetiver Moloko for 1/10 th the cost!!!!. Off the charts value for money. Encre Noir Sports feels like a fragrance with a distinctive niche quality.

jamespoland

This is an absolute love for me. The fresh citrus up top is complimented by the green cypress. The base of this fragrance smells exactly like OG Encre Noire. The freshness and the earthy ness work very well together. Although this fragrance is very unique, it is not for everybody.

Oof. Like many folks here, I bought this one based on reviews alone. Yikes, I keep getting burned by doing that. I don't know what they appeal would be for a man to wear this. It is definitely an Eau de Grandma for me. Too much of a floral, chemical vibe on the dry down. Like an old person trying to hide their BO. Or like Necco wafers and dirty clothes. I mean, it's not horrible, once you get used to it. But there is no mysteriousness here. And I don't get the "damp forest" vibe here at all. I'm starting to wonder if anyone here has actually been in a forest.

4/10 overall

Edit: I will admit, there is a complexity here that is interesting. But that's about the only compliment that I can give.

Xzotic Smells

This one here has an aquatic vibe to it, while still maintains that good ole vetiver vibe. This one is the lightest in the series, and also the lightest in the series. Meaning you would have to heavy on the sprays to increase the longevity and sillage on this one. As always! Try it for yourself, everyone has different DNA!!!

I've only had this for a day but I'm surprised how mild it is - initially quite strong but within a few moments I could no longer smell it. I'd have thought you'd need atleast 5 - 6 sprays to get much out of this one. Hoping it grows on me though. At the moment it's a meh.

UPDATE
I've changed my mind. Amazing fragrance really works in Autumn. The aquatic notes are REALLY NICE, reminds me of wet grass.

It's like ink made love to a bag of oranges.

This sport version is the most wearable in the line. Citrus opening that settles to the familiar smokey woodiness without the burning leaves smell of the original. Lasts all day (and then some) on your clothes. A Very versatile masculine scent for multiple seasons and a wide age range.

Scent: 7.5/10
Sillage: 6.5/10
Longevity: 8/10
Versatility: 7.5/10
Uniqueness: 8.5/10
Value: 10/10

Where to wear: spring, summer, fall, more of a daytime scent.
Faux pas: not for winter, not for date nights, not for those wanting a traditional fragrance smell

Now this is interesting!
Love the bottle design. Literally looks like an inkwell. Also the wooden cap!
The first seconds of the opening are weird! Smells like Jägermeister, herbal and alcoholic. Luckily that note goes away soon.
The grapefruit in this isn't really bright or juicy but more like that subtle smell of grapefruit you get when you get your nose close to the skin of a ripe grapefruit. That note lasts from the opening to the end.
A hint of spices makes it very interesting. The vetiver I feel is very toned down. That's why I'd say this fragrance is not dry woody but wet woody, naturey, like a botanical garden, green tropical rather than fruity tropical. I also get Aloe Vera vibes? Green plant-juicy super freshness.
Damn. It's good and so unusual! Not for everyday but perfect when the mood is right.
It's suitable for many situations but I feel like it shines in very hot weather and... while working out. Or during outdoor activities like hiking.
Guess the subtitle "Sport" isn't far off after all.

I really didn't like the original much at all, so expected to dislike this one too, but as soon as I smelled my sample I knew I had to get a bottle. I don't often do backup bottles, I have backups of two only, both relatively cheap ones, this may be my third. I get Dior Homme Cologne vibes in the opening, but quickly moves away from that and dries down mostly vetiver and some freshness from bergamot and grapefruit and the slightest hint of cashmere and musk. It's not a vetiver fragrance in the vein of Tom Ford Vetiver or Guerlain Vetiver, quite different to those, much more clean. Very good, absolute bargain for the price.

Mass apealing but still unique with a great price.loving it

Bitterness of grapefruit doesn't so much change the idea of the original, but instead makes a quite strong shift of perspective, emphasizing other facets of the same cypress-vetiver combo: more acidic, even citrusy in those places where before there was mostly wood.
Lavender is the other important addition to the mix, and it is turns out to be a great match to Encre's vetiver, giving a slightly vintage aura.
There is also the watery aspect, if you look for it, but it's not the usual "sport aquatic" notes, more like a placid lake with dense vegetation, pictured at night. If this makes any sense.

In a nutshell, there are several new voices singing slightly different tunes in the same fragrance, making it more polyphonic than the original ("Multi-dimensional", to quote another review here) - which might be good or not so good, depending on your expectations.
Encre Noire Sport is milder, elaborated, more complex and versatile. You can look at it from different angles and find different things without necessarily always referring to its predecessor. It is also a better fit for spring and summer
On the other hand, because of all this refinement, the strong statement of the original is tamed. You can't beat its minimalist boldness by adding more layers or crowd-pleasing makeup to it. So, in terms of uniqueness, while Encre Noire is still a genre by itself, this one borders on a larger group of designer fragrances and their flankers. Never really getting there, though. Just make sure you know all the Encres.

Such a solid frag for the price. I think it’s really wearable. The grapefruit and lavender make the dark and wet vetiver more welcoming. Wife loves it. Fresh, spicy, vibes well with the skin. I’ve been having to reapply throughout the day, but I don’t mind for the price.

A very good vetiver fragrance, and my most successful blind buy. First sniff was full of grapefruit and I thought I made a mistake, but the grapefruit quickly mellows down, and you’re left with a smoky, woody vetiver with a bit of grapefruit and aquatic notes.

Absolutely great as an office scent. I finished a 100ml bottle within months because it became my office fragrance. And being 1/3rd of the price of Terre d’Hermes, it’s much easier to reach for.

However, halfway into my 2nd bottle, I picked up the original Encre Noire. As others said, the dry down is similar, using the same smoky vetiver and cypress. But EN lacks the grapefruit and aqua, and I actually think that makes it better. It’s more dedicated to what it’s trying to do.

Due to the grapefruit, EN Sport can have a very slight ‘burnt hair’ smell in the deep dry down. Original EN doesn’t have that. It has a cleaner, more natural smelling dry down.

As such, if you had to pick one, I’d suggest the original. Or, like me, you could use EN Sport as a gateway. Either way, EN Sport is great on its own.
