Hypnôse by Lancôme is a Amber Vanilla fragrance for women. Hypnôse was launched in 2005. Hypnôse was created by Annick Menardo and Thierry Wasser. Top note is Passion Flower; middle notes are Jasmine and Gardenia; base notes are Vanille and Vetiver.

Hypnose by Lancôme is a sunny, woodsy, oriental fragrance with gourmand nuances. The fragrance features passionflower, which creates both a gentle and a passionate feminine aura; the magical product of orchid--vanilla-smells warm and creamy on skin; and vetiver surrounded with white flowers and jasmine Sambac gives a sensual and deep sensation.

The beautiful bottle is designed in the form of a woman’s silhouette, and the color of the perfume hypnotizes just like the tender blue of a woman’s eyes.

The most beautiful tropical scent created! For me this is pure love, I bought it in 2005, and again and again. Creamy sweet warm powdery, a beautiful classic!

soniamcalear

Spring/Summer Scent. Extremely Gourmand Marshmallowy Scent. I do not care for this scent in Winter/Fall Season at all but this Wakes Up in Spring and I LOVE this Scent.

Chrisandra

This review is for a vintage 2007 version EDP.
On my skin, there is nothing fresh, woodsy, metallic, violet-ey, oriental or soapy about Hypnose.
It is sweet, vanillic, slightly fruity/juicy, a bit lactonic, a bit tropical with a fairly strong grape bubblegum vibe to it. The drydown also has a slight boozy aroma.
The opening reminds me a bit of Victoria Secret's Love Spell body mist (vintage edition early 2000).
Longevity varies from person to person, from season to season.
My 17-year-old juice is getting better and better with every use. Last time I used it, which was today, the sillage was great (more than 2 arms length for over an hour) and a longevity of around 12 hours.
It smells richer, juicier and more "tropical", and the vanilla is superb.
On clothes, it lasts longer but because my juice is vintage, it became dark brown so I need to be careful with not spraying it on light-colored clothing.
Now it is quite expensive for my budget, around 85 euro for 75 ml.
Thank God I got mine as a gift.
I read that it has been reformulated but I have no idea how the new version/s smells like.

 - starting with this since it's the best emoji to describe my thoughts about constant mentions of PDM Valaya, just under every other perfume out there! This sweetie from 2000s has nothing to do with clean-musky scent called Valaya.
Hypnose is REALLY SWEET. Sugary sweet , but nicely blended. Quite long lasting, with good projection.
Sometimes it feels like some AI-tool is writing those reviews, because they are completely detached from the reality. Oh.

Hypnôse by Lancôme is an unusual sweet fragrance, it is super elegant but it is not as complex or heavy as other sweet fragrances, it has a certain slightly soapy air that is unique, that passion flower makes a very special combination. I don't know any perfume that is It looks like Hypnôse, and I like that in a world full of perfumes copied and cloned from each other. Today it is an even more original perfume than when it was released on the market. It is not differentiated into different phases, it is quite linear, but its sweet and refined simplicity is its great beauty, I see it as very feminine without being sappy.

Diana Obmetkin

Opened with a somewhat sour note (passion flower probably), but the fresh, pleasant kind of sour that you'd get from citruses. And then it smelled like gentle and feminine white flowers, with a little "powder" from the upcoming vanilla note. Unfortunately tho, when it dried down it smelled like an air freshener. A good one! But since this is the way it works with my skin chemistry, I might as well save some money and get an actual air freshener instead lol.

I think that it's a great fragrance, but not a safe blind buy. Idk how common it is for people to end up smelling like air fresheners after using this fragrance, so I wouldn't risk it. Go to a store, try it first (on your skin!!!), make sure that you actually like it, and only then get one of your own. Also idk why people find it to be a winter/night fragrance, I think that it's more of a spring and/or fall kind of fragrance, as it is pretty light imo.

wondervalley666

On me, this is one of those fancy high end “laundry musk” genre scents. I wouldn’t say this is a dupe or smell alike, but it does remind me of scents like PDMs Valaya. It’s a warm sweet well blended musky floral that doesn’t have many distinguishable floral notes but blends to smell like a fancy fabric softener. I mean that in a good way! It smells clean and warm. Also floral, and “fruity sweet” more so than vanilla sweet IMO. The drydown is quite addictive. My nose is hypnotized!

As for the bad: this does open quite alcohol-like. It takes a few minutes to develop at all on my skin, first with strong fruits and not much else for another 15-20 min. I’m not sure how much I’ve actually applied. But about 30 min later the magic happens. It also isn’t very long lasting on my skin. It vanishes in about 2 hours, and it’s an EDP…This issues make the perfume feel… a bit cheaper than it retails for. It isn’t terrible, it’s definitely worth discounted prices. I don’t think I’d spend $100 on a bottle… If you want a stellar performer with the richest long lasting scent, I’d go the PDM route. But if you find this on sale it’s a major score! It does smell sooo good. I just wish it lasted longer on me. Hopefully I can let my bottle rest for a bit and it will develop better. I do have a habit of getting frustrated having to respray often and decluttering bottles once I’ve had enough.

I’d say this scent still feels quite modern. I’ve seriously smelled a handful of new niche scents recently released in the past few years that smell a lot like this, and those scents are uber popular. This is a great option for people looking for less expensive alternatives.

This scent is quite gentle and inoffensive. Office safe & wont choke people out. Sexy, but not so much that it isn’t safe for pretty much any occasion.

assoula17

An all time favorite. Soothing, calming, comforting scent. Since its release, I’ve managed to always have a bottle. And I think I always will, even if I don’t reach for it as much as I used to when it was first released.
Evokes nostalgic feelings and brings back a lot of memories of simpler days and simpler times.
It’s calm and sweet yet not cloyingly so. It’s an all year rounder. It’s also versatile to be worn in all occasions. Day & night.

Luilind

It’s white florals, yet it’s quite dark and spicy. It’s powdery, sparkly and boozy. Unique.

Not my cup of tea though.

Tigi

I'm writing another review of Hypnose because it's gentle enough for me to wear while having asthma problems and i want everyone else to know this one is safe. It's gorgeous too, but delicate enough.

linceul d'hiver

surprisingly enough, I really like this. I happened to come across this fragrance for the first time a few months ago and expected nothing of it, since it appeared to be quite heavy on vanilla which I rarely like on myself. I first sprayed it on paper out of curiosity, and that's exactly what I got, but it wasn't unpleasant at all. I was interested enough to spray it on my wrist, and found the gardenia note to be the most prominent. I think that's what made me appreciate it, I like the way it smells on my skin. it's nothing groundbreaking, but I wouldn't call it boring or bland either.

lasts pretty long for what it is, and projection isn't very strong, which I think is good in this case. I don't find it cloying, but it's still quite sweet and that might be more apparent on some people's skin

vighletends

Just got a vintage bottle of this. On me it’s a really delicious almost adult fruity pebbles type of vanilla. Not super strong but that’s okay

Hypnogingergal

For me, the most feminine, magnetic, out of this world scent. Tons and tons of compliments every time. I dont't appreciate the vanilla this heavy, like many in the comments said. It's for my like a dry high end vanilla, luxurious, so, so, so far that smell cheap. Crispy passionflower that adds light and sexy woods below. Goddess sure smell like this, Superb.

Amethyst3

My sister was obsessed with this scent for years in the noughties . Vanilla is accurate , and for me a slight powder tinge too. Slightly sickly if im being honest but I know many love it

Chrisandra

@Vstar1 give it more time. It depends if you have a vintage or current formulation.
Mine got better, I mean REALLY better with time.

Sarra816

This is a sweet fragrance, it smells like a fruity vanilla to me -- I almost pick up a slight licorice note in the beginning as well which may be from the Passion flower.
Used to be my signature fragrance for a while but it is getting harder to find..
It is a fresh fragrance but I dont pick up a soapiness in this fragrance as other users have noted - -so this may depend on your skin.

books.art.dogs

An inoffensive, clean floral fragrance. To me, Hypnose is much more of a soapy clean scent than I was expecting. To me, it literally smells like a floral scented soap you’d find in your grandparents’ guest bathroom. You know, the ones that are shaped like various seashells.
Moderate to long longevity and an intimate scent bubble. This would be great if you have an office job where you don’t want a loud fragrance.

Chrisandra

@HerGoldenSecret -I had a similar experience with it when I rediscovered it in my collection 2 months ago.
Give it some time, let it sit for a while and use it in cold weather with a base of unscented lotion/Vaseline, and a more generous number of sprays, on the pulse points, hair and clothes (preferably darker ones to avoid staining).
Hopefully, it will perform better.
Good luck :)

HerGoldenSecret

I never tried this perfume until today, and just had to have it. I bought an edp and it is sooo wonderful, the scent is sweet and intoxicating. Some flower I cant put my finger on, probably the passion flower which I’ve never smelled, and then this vanilla like cotton candy air, which I love so much. 😍 I will say, it sadly doesn’t last long, I just sprayed my wrist half an hour ago, and there’s only just the faintest hint of it. I also miss some musk, but will try and layer it. With musk it might ressemble Tresor musc diamant, which I LOVE and sadly is discontinued.

Edit - so I tried it some more, and on clothes it stays on a little longer. And its not cotton candy, - it’s the smell of those pastel colored candy necklaces!!! Love it!

Violettesucree

I used to love this when it first came out, when all the Vanilla fragrances were the rage, and I found Hypnose deep, creamy and delicious. I didn't buy it back then, but I had tried it several times at the Lancome counter. at the time, I wore either Casmir by Chopard, or Dunhill desire for women, all kind of in the same vein.
Fast forward to now, as I am newly retired, kids gone, finally have spending money for myself, I purchased a large bottle of the edp. I can't stand it! It just seems so sugary sweet and had to wash it off...My husband said I smelled like deet bug spray, and I have to agree. I find it really too much in strength and projection, not sure if it is a reformulation, or that I truly have a change of taste, but I cannot wear sweet. Lately I am more into spicy Orientals, perhaps my taste and chemistry has changed, but I'm going to give this bottle away to a friend and go back to my Youth-Dew or Cinnabar. I am hoping my Spring and Summer fragrances that I just purchased online will still suit me, Chanel 19, Jean louis Scherrer, O de Lancome. those are not sweet and "green" which I always loved.

FeleciaB

This one was not for me. Maybe the passion flower? Had to return. I love all the other scent notes so it just just be something about passion fruit that doesn't sit well with me.

MariaGabrielaKristina

For me is something like "metallic violets". Remarkable and passionate aromat.

darkgiu

I had this fragrance years ago, I Iove this parfum very much! Intriguing and very unique! Longevity is the "bad" side, on me it lasts only 2/3 hours

gilbertsolorzano54

This smells like gardenia bathroom spray (YUCK!) it's suffocating and the floral notes are overwhelming to the point they will give you a headache. Beware when spraying this beast of a fragrance.

Andy224

Very strong and unique long lasting earthy vanilla scent. That being said it is definitely not to be worn on summertime hot/humid days. For it’s Passionflower note is so overwhelming it’ll make you feel dizzy. Not a safe blind buy.

Gunce

Smells like air freshener

smccmurphy

Don’t love the grapey finish of the opening.

WhiteFlowerPrincess

I find Hypnôse a fairly likeable and pretty fragrance, but it smells a bit too mass market and ordinary for my tastes personally.

I like the combination of all of the ingredients altogether, but I find that the vanilla and vetiver in the base is too strong and that the jasmine and the gardenia aren't amped up enough. The vetiver gives this fragrance a slightly dirty and dusty scent that I'm not mad on as well. I like the slight grapey quality from the passion flower in the top notes though and it is very pretty and feminine.

I remember first seeing the advert with Daria Werbowy back in 2006 in an issue of British Vogue and finding both her and the lilac purple bottle of this fragrance beautiful and wanting to smell it and own it. When I finally did buy it and own it quite a number of years later, I first loved it but then eventually tired of it and a friend of mine didn't particularly like the scent.

In saying that though, this fragrance has a moderate sillage and it does last quite a long time on my skin. It lasts about 9 hours on me. I also think that it would be a nice cozy fragrance to wear for either fall or winter during both the day and the night and there is something very sexy and mysterious smellimg about it. I could imagine someone like Daria Werbowy dancing in the moonlight, wearing a dress made of silvery lilac chiffon when I smell this.

Based on my review above, I'd give this fragrance a 7 ½ out of 10.

santeripe

I'm absolutely sure I've smelled this in a soap before, which is probably expected from a popular 2005 designer perfume... The vanilla here is surprisingly deep and intense, not a light powdery one. Together with passionfruit it creates an interesting smell I wouldn't be able to pick apart without reading that it's passionfruit and vanilla. Not a typical light fruity vanilla, pretty intense and something I'd probably also grow tired of over time. But not bad either!

kristina_m

I had this and loved it immediately around 2005/2006, but got really sick of the smell very quickly. Never repurchased.

bruby15

For me it does not last more than a couple of hours... So sad.

Happyjulie

Haven’t tamed this one yet though it’s really nice. The vanilla is herbal together with the floral notes, smells really interesting. Reminds me of Carmex lip balm

swedishmilk15

Passion fruit/flower smells waxy and has an interesting whiff of B.O. about it that works beautifully in Hypnôse next to the sweet vanilla and licorice-rooty, cold & sharp vetiver. White florals hold the middle without shouting. Reminds me of Vanilla Fields, Love Spell, and Lolita Lempicka. Not a warm vanilla, this one allures with an aloof gaze & the fragrant wisps of a brewing cauldron from a sexy witch's ice cave. The bottle is a stunner--Lancome housed their vintage masterpiece "Magie" in the same twisted flacon (albeit Baccarat!)

0h3ricaa

This fragrance is so beautiful! I can see this being a WEDDING 💍 fragrance, it’s soft, sweet, and powdery! The notes are blended so nicely. This perfume is sweet, but not gourmand or overpoweringly sweet. The powder is not overwhelming because it give a very nice touch of softness. Both the sweetness and powder mix well with the florals! It’s a teensy bit soapy but mainly very fresh/sweet. It makes me feel safe, womanly, and very COZY!!! ( ´ ▽ ` ).。o♡

It’s classy and elegant. I can see this being worn as an everyday fragrance (as a signature scent) but ALSO can be worn for ONLY special occasions. I think this perfume is versatile in that way, but the scent profile of this fragrance is unique! I don’t think I’ve smelt anything like this really.. I don’t think this is a great blind buy because of that! Although it is such a beautiful fragrance, it may not be for everyone.

Sample this before buying a bigger size bottle so you can decide if this fragrance will only be for special occasions OR IF you really love and feel like this is you in a bottle then definitely get the biggest size (after getting your nose on this first).

It’s giving lovely house wife, suburban rich trophy wife (with a great personality).. just very womanly and classy!

A PLACE this perfume reminds me of: Suburban California 🎻✨

WHERE would I wear this perfume: Wedding, having a home warming or gathering, Cruise, Romantic Anniversary Date, Red Carpet Event, Museum.

What would I DO wearing this perfume: Reading in a silky robe drinking champagne or wine (after a very nice bath), getting married, preparing dishes for guest to come over, eating fine dining.

What would I WEAR with this perfume: WHITE ANYTHING (Sundress, wedding dress) white fairycore, classy-casual. Natural makeup or soft glam! Updoes, ponies, half up- half downs. Pearls and dainty jewelry. Wedges, small heels, classy sandals.

sopelka

Absolutely agree with @Dionacartez. I can’t stand modem sweet concoctions a la LVEB or BO, but this vanilla I can get behind. It reminds me of YSL Manifesto, another sweetish, floral, green vanilla that I can’t get enough of.

perfumesniffer

Blind Buy. Confused. This smells nothing like all these reviews about a “great vanilla scent” here. It’s kind of gritty and bitter in a bug spray way. I’m super unimpressed and of course mad at myself for these blind buys. Either this was drastically reformulated or it’s just not a vanillic scent by my definition. No clue what passionflower smells like unless it’s bug spray. This smells like a gritty brown vetiver scent with nondescript florals. Full bottle available for purchase :)

indiglo

A different but pretty vanilla. I'm not familiar with the passion fruit note and it throws me off a little. My nose isn't always ready to appreciate unfamiliar notes, so this might grow on me. For now, pretty but doesn't really feel like or resonate with me personally.

Sherlock Ness Monster

I love this one. I don't own or wear a lot of vanilla scents and I am not a gourmand type of person, but this one makes me feel like "me" when I wear it. This smells like "cold" vanilla to me, and the scent makes me think of the color pale blue or lavender. I love to wear this one in winter. It feels like sparkly snow, and even though it isn't a warm vanilla it makes me feel cozy when I wear it.

imluthien

I read that the vintage version of this very different from the actual smell and this makes me sad.
I have a VERY aged flank and it smells like vanilla paradise...it would be heartbreaking to finish it before finding a vanillic, heavenly, angelic and super gourmand alternative to the vintage thing

cats_eye

People talk about Love, Don't Be Shy smelling like Fruity Pebbles, but I think Hypnose does way more.

Malinda666

A pretty vanilla scent that fits any occasion. I need to have it in my collection. Can´t be without it.

marinejuana

fragrance that I keep coming back to ...

DariaFrancesca74

Fragrance that I used for a period of my life years ago, a fragrance that has not left particular memories in my olfactory reminiscences. I remember it very vanilla, sweet, immersed in a bouquet of white flowers, with the winning note of gardenia, with marked and enveloping woody evolutions.

nzascentz

nostalgia 101. the blend of passion flower and vanilla definitely trigger something for me as every time i use this fragrance, i don’t want to use it. it smells reminiscent of my mother who was also a fragrance lover who has since passed. i couldn’t think of a better fragrance that embodies a woman that i’ve looked up to my entire childhood.

10/10

KillerBee123

I just made a cake and put a Vanilla essence in it that left a residue on my fingers. Smelled them and immediately reminded me of Hypnose.
I thought to myself - how in the world I have forgotten this beauty! So I went online and purchased a 2.5 oz. bottle.

What I remember of it - it was absolutely stunning! Loud but not punchy, sweet vanilla delicately dipped in powder, recognizable in its uniqueness.

UPDATE: What an absolute disappointment! The new one I’ve got from Lancome have nothing to do with the above description. I remember a sirupy sweetness and heaviness, the new reformulation is a weak joke! The dry-down reminiscence of cat pee.
Sending it back.
Lancome destroyed another one.

Lastminuter

It's like a vanilla dream come true, but with a freshness that keeps it from being too heavy or overwhelming. It's perfect for everyday wear, no matter what you're doing or where you're going.
I just tried Hypnose and fell in love!
But what I love most about this scent is that it takes me back to my childhood in the most unexpected way. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something about the mix of sweet vanilla and passion flower that takes me to a happy, warm and nostalgic place. It's like a little time machine in a bottle!
I'm glad I got a big bottle of this, this will definitely be a staple in my perfume collection.

KevinTheCarrot

This was one of my first perfume loves, along with the original JPG Classique EDP and TF Black Orchid. I remember being about 12 or 13 and spraying a tester all over myself.

It's a strange perfume to define, as it's not a warm scent. It used to make me feel like I was walking the Cannes red carpet and smelling it now brings back those memories. I think it's very of its own era, but there's nothing really that smells like it. While it's a floral vanilla, it's a cold, yet alluring scent. The notes are very well blended and smooth.

Longevity and sillage are very good for this one. I don't feel it transforms throughout the dry down.

onceyousmellit

For me this is one of the most beautiful perfumes of all time. It has a very comforting and appealing scent and I can't associate it with any other smells. It is also linear in my oppinion, but in a very good way. And once you smell it you can't firget it. It deserves to be in the Hall of Fame of perfumes!

Aromaniacy

Ah, the perfume of my teenage years. I used to love this perfume, but at times the smell came off a bit harsh, bitter? I cannot explain it, citrusy perhaps? While I loved the vanilla in it, there was something in there that I started feeling as if I sprayed myself in pesticide. Which is the reason I stopped buying it. Try it out before purchase, because your skin pH might create the same weird smell it had on me!

StarletteAnise

Overall, it's a nice perfume. Light, creamy, non-offensive. Would be good for wearing in an office or working out. It has no Wow factor though and something about it always makes me think of wet bandaids. A nice vanilla floral wet bandaid. Will not be purchasing another bottle.

NDL

Soft, warm, licorice, vanilla, marshmallow, powdery feminine…… where? I wish I got any of those :( this comes off as super cold and green, masculine on me even heavy into the dry down. It’s dirty on me almost veering into B.O territory. worst blind buy for me. Wanted to love it but unfortunately does not agree with my chemistry.

Spicadk

Reminds me of the smell of a lipstick, i took a bite from, when i was little. It smells warm, nostalgic and sweet. It could be a smell i would get tired of.
After Some time it smells like Lemon cake, and then play dough.
After many hours it smells warm, cozy and sweet, and this smell and relaxed feeling makes me want to buy it. I guess i just dont like the top notes

Bokato

This reminds me of angel by mugler

Cherry_Darling

Creamy, soft nondescript floral (no distinct jasmine) and a touch of citrus. It is a little milky, a little powdery, not quite basic but it is a very non offensive, non unique nice smell. I was looking for a bit more of a thrill from that passion flower but it is an older perfume can't compete with the modern exotic niches. But it is very nice, very wearable, non offensive, soft, subtly sweet, milky and softly floral.

Blueberries

There's an earthy creaminess, the vanilla working with the vetiver. Also a distinct anise like note. Initially I get a lovely, discreet woodiness, like frankincense or cedar and it really captures me but neither are listed here as notes.
There are white florals but this is not a crisp, white floral scent as those notes are not dominant.
An unmistakable, rich and well balanced fragrance. It's deep, full, with sweetness.

I remember trying this when it launched. I was younger and went for lighter floral/fruity scents back then so didn't buy it. Now, 18 years later I decided to try again. I understand why so many like it, I enjoy it on my skin and keep sniffing...

Moderate sillage & longevity on me.

Fenissa

@fabiola1272 I have similar issues. I think it's one of those perfumes you can't really smell yourself but other people around you can. It's gorgeous and like you I wish I could smell it more. I need to start spraying it on one of my daughters and have her follow me around so I get to smell it fully 😅😅

fabiola1272

On me Hypnose is extremely delicate , it's something like if I was taking a walk at night and suddenly got this wisp of scent in the cool night air that made me wonder where did that come from? It's a very pleasing scent but I'm having a hard time noticing it on me , I have to put my nose right up to my wrist to get anything , and I think I get a whiff if I dab a bit on my neck . Maybe it needs to be warmer weather to develop on me ? I don't know . It's a very beautiful scent that makes me think of violets and licorice which are lovely to me . Hypnose is cool, sweet & nocturnal , just wish it was more potent.

Fatima1219

I bought this solely for the rave reviews that this fragrance received. Also, I was intrigued by the Gardenia note that was contained in the fragrance. This was not a blind buy--I smelled Hypnose on paper, in another city. Adrenaline was rushing, excitement was top tier, disappointment was building to high levels. Yes, I said disappointment! I like Hypnose, but it is not at all what I expected. I expected this vanilla-gardenia explosion of all good things. I expected it to be bold, with far-reaching sillage, and 6 or more hours of longevity. I was wrong! My nose gets two notes from Hypnose--Passionflower and Vanilla. The vanilla is not at all gourmand, which is a pleasant break from the vanillas of today. The Passionflower is present and the very first thing you will smell. It is a soft, subtle, feminine fragrance, that is not at all dated. Hypnose mellows to a half-step above a skin scent. It will not make a statement; it is appropriate for all day activities--church, work, lunch etc. I will not repurchase.

Zanerkand

I know you shouldn't judge a fragrance by the bottle....but this is stunning and will look great in your collection.

It's well named; it is hypnotic. I have never come across the note of passion flower so I was intrigued. It is beautiful and sets this apart.

Longevity and silage aren't great but it will create a lovely scent bubble for you to enjoy for around 3 hours.

The quality is excellent as expected from Lancome.

Hated it 😬

Bought it for the passion flower note when I was on the hunt for a passion flower scent, but this was just such a mistake. It’s so cold and bitter, no passion flower to my nose, almost smelt like a gone off lemon cake to me. Something super sharp and bitter about this fragrance that is definitely not for everyone. I think the bottle and juice is misleading to how it actually smells as well. I gave it to my boyfriend (who takes basically all my perfume hand me downs) and he layers it and makes it smell alright. I just did not have the patience for this one at all to try and make it work and so it was just a big fail for me.

So unique, so beloved!🥰 My skin chemistry adores it! It's warm, smooth, soft, comforting, sophisticated, yet sensual, alluring and magical on my skin. I'm out of words. The people around me (and me) simply LOVE it! 💜🔮✨💖 I do not understand why some people perceive it as cold, since I feel its a very warm scent (almost warms my body). It was my signature for years. Why did they have to discontinue it? Why?! 😩 Update Jan 2023: It's actually back in stock! So happy! 🎊🎉🥳

Saraha123

This is such a unique smell to me but in a good way, I have never smelt anything like it. I really love this, on my skin its very vanillery. It's a sweet feminine scent, perfect for winter. This is a good purchase if your a vanilla lover, I'm sad they discontinued this.

Maria19

When the fragrance settles on the skin, it is a soft and distinct vanilla scent. A restrained and sophisticated scent. If you're looking for a really vanilla scent, this might not be for you. I think I'll grow to love this scent. The bottle is stunning. This is a classic that cannot be missed.

doeyes

not sure if it's my cold or something, but it smells a lot like alcohol to me. not to the people around me though!
this person sitting beside me kept telling me I smelled amazing, and asking what perfume I was wearing. this was after about 5 hours of wearing it!
it's very unique and I think im gonna be wearing it all winter

Vermeer

What a stunner!

This is really beautiful - and unusual too. I agree with another reviewer's observation that the vanilla present in this smells cold and inedible. This is most definitely not a gourmand, and while this is very heavily vanilla based it is a cool, detached variant that is somehow more delicious that your standard sweet scent. The vetiver note elevates the white floral-vanilla combination, bringing a tiny touch of masculinity that beautifully compliments an otherwise overtly feminine scent.

It smells mysterious, and has a sense of duality to it that makes it interesting. It has an innocent, almost cold sense of mystery that is intoxicating and inviting, but never overtly sensual or sultry. It has a 'look but don't touch' vibe to it that is very intriguing.

I wish it projected further! It is long lasting but sits very close to the skin after about an hour. I typically like strong scents but this is so beautiful that I don't mind respraying.

Overall - a winner. A definite repurchase.

Bettybotox

This smells like a lighter version of Dior addict (2014) on me. I love it but have to keep respraying it.
Silage and longevity are moderate at best for the first couple of hours, then its much more intimate.
Beautiful perfume though in an exquisite bottle. The colour of the juice suits it too. I really love it.

Flexwithviv

This perfume is an acquired scent and unique. I do like the smell. However I just never reached for it. It’s one of those smells that you would need to love it, to reach for it often or really enjoy unique fragrance smells that you wouldn’t easily find somewhere else.
Every time I picked the bottle to smell it, I liked it but never wore it, so I decided to part ways with it and sold it.

I definitely wouldn’t blind buy, I would test it several times before buying, as the vanilla in it makes you instantly think you love it, but then as it dries down you start to feel differently about it. The perfume lasts okay on the skin, although I never sprayed it much to know if the silage was good.

This is a perfume I would have liked to have 10ml decant of it and that would suffice for a veryyyy long time for me.

I am sad to find that Lancôme has discontinued this gem. :( Get your hands on a bottle while you still can.. I’d say this is a safe blind purchase if you love vanilla!

Even though Hypnôse was created almost two decades ago, it’s still so modern and unique in its composition — yet nostalgic, because in the current era of cloyingly sweet gourmands, you can tell this one is from in another time. Nothing against contemporary gourmands, but Hypnôse just brings something different to the table. It’s a sweet vanilla fragrance, but neither cloying nor loud, and despite the dominant vanilla note, I wouldn’t actually even classify this as a gourmand. Hypnôse is definitely borderline delicious, but it has this dreamy, kind of ethereal, and cosmetic/powdery vibe, which I attribute to the addition of vetiver. Though not listed, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was also some white musk involved here. Despite being an „almost-gourmand“, Hypnôse isn’t a particularly warm scent, which I again find very refreshing among the current go-to designer compositions.
The florals amplify the cosmetic feel (= further neutralize the gourmand aspect), while the passionflower, which you rarely find in other perfumes, gives off a subtle tropical/exotic vibe. There is also something happy and uplifting, maybe even innocent/angelic about it, which further differentiates it from contemporary gourmands that often seem to aim to be particularly sexy.
Overall, this is so simple and sophisticated, one of my all-time favorite vanilla perfumes. Hypnôse is dreamy, airy, velvety, soft, feminine, ethereal, sweet, a little bit delicious, romantic, calm, and happy. I think the name and the beautiful bottle design are very fitting. It‘s also light and cool enough to be worn all year round, which I love! I would even say it thrives in warmer temperatures. Performance is great as well.

All in all just beautifully done. (Lancôme, if you read this, bring it back pls)

Edit in Spring 2023: It seems to be back in stock! Immediately purchased a bottle. If Lancôme lets me, I will always have this in my collection.

mhubbard1961

A pleasant but somewhat non-descript scent. I like it but rarely reach for it. To me it is a warm but not hot weather scent. Safe for work, not a safe blind buy for the price. Smells like someone's knock off brand conditioner. Pleasant. Soft. I enjoy it when I do wear it, but the memory fades quickly. Innocent enough to be a young girl's first perfume. I like my scents to be a little more edgy. I won't repurchase if for some crazy reason I use it all.

Mattesha Erotica

This is my absolute favorite fragrance on the planet. My sister worked as an exotic dancer and wore this throughout my childhood from 05-10. As soon as i could get my hands on a bottle, it too became my signature fragrance. The second it hits my nose, its so violently nostalgic i could cry. Lancôme hypnôse is the reason im so enthralled with fragrance and began me on my sweet gourmand perfume journey/obsession. Its such a beautiful unique fragrance that always garners me lots of compliments, I genuinely feel like a goddess when i wear this. The day Lancôme announced the discontinuation of hypnôse was truly top 3 worst days of my life. Since then ive hoarded and stocked up on 10 2.5oz bottles, and 10 other bottles ranging from 1-1.7oz (all EDP of course!). If you ever want to spoil yourself and TRULY INDULGE in a fragrance, treat yourself to a bottle of hypnôse.

FeleciaB

I wanted to love this. On paper it sounded up my alley but quickly discovered after blind buying it that passion flower isn't for me. Don't get me wrong it doesn't smell bad and sometimes I even wonder if I made a mistake returning it (i got jadore instead)

CeeTheAurtist

I really enjoy this scent. It reminds me of something familiar although I can't remember who or what. This is definitely a cold vanilla scent and the passionflower gives it a nice unique touch. I enjoy wearing this to bed or in colder weather. It has decent silage and longevity on my skin (about 6+ hours). This is a warm, cozy and inviting fragrance.

doeyes

i love this perfume! it's an amazing vanilla scent, it's mature and not too sweet. it doesn't last very long though- for around an hour or so you'll be able to smell it but after that it's very subtle, barely noticeable, which is my only problem with the fragrance. you can't smell much of the notes aside from vanilla! i got a small bottle from fragrancenet for around 20 CAD, super worth it. i just wish it lasted longer.

Tiger84

@Vanillastorm40 I always do the same, it's logical, why buy 30 ml for 25 currency when I can get 100 ml for 30 currency.

mirrorghost

this starts with passion flower and a hint of jasmine. i now know i have smelled it before in the past. also, it's pretty odd on me. the passion flower is very strong and there is something mildly indolic, possibly from the jasmine. the vanilla gets stronger as time goes on but the passion flower remains the dominant note for me. it's kind of warm today-i am curious to try this in cooler weather. it's very sweet, moreso than i anticipated...

Lindsconn

From the notes listed I was expecting something entirely different, a mysterious beautiful vanilla maybe? What I received was a sickly sweet, heavy anise style fragrance in the same range as Lolita Lempicka.

If you love these sweet vanilla fragrances, with an edge suitable for winter nights you will love this! As it is a well blended fragrance! But for me personally it’s cloying and sickly. Which is disappointing as the bottle and colour of the juice inside is stunning

samra9

i love this fragrance. it doesn’t have a strong warm vanilla scent to it and i do agree that it comes across as “cold” vanilla. it lasts FOREVER on the skin too. i find it to be powdery more than floral or anything else. it’s definitely versatile and has a clean-like smell to it.

likesleet

a standout amongst a department store visit. strong candy passionfruit. sweet and punchy without being artificial.

rhaineclayton

I want to say "yay! A gardenia that doesn't go bug spray on me", but that's probably because I don't get gardenia from this at all. Only a hint of jasmine, but mostly vanilla. Like others have said, it's not a warm vanilla. I'm very tempted to add this to my collection as I don't have anything that fits that "cold/sweet" genre.
Definitely nicer than the Taylor Swift one people compare it to- probably because there's no leather or suede note (forgot which it is). More linear, but that's what makes it so wearable.

DPrince01

Hypnose blooms in heat as a cold but somehow almost tropical floral scent. In Winter or colder climates, I find that this is straight up just a liquorice vanilla. It can be a pleasant signature scent for someone and it is also a crowd pleaser - but a very unique one at that! Current formulation is sour and tart.
This has been reformulated to death and is on the verge of extinction. The lasting power is no longer there and the current one lasts just an hour or two on my skin and turns into a skin scent very quickly. Projection is stronger in hotter weather. However, I don’t mind reapplying the fragrance when needed because it is so inexpensive now and you can always find it on offer. Will definitely be discontinued by Lancome at some point in the near future.

Vanillastorm40

I'm glad I resisted the urge to blind buy a big honkin' bottle of this. Side note: A bad habit I have when I blind buy - get the largest size available because price per ML is usually cheaper than buying a smaller size, ex: $50 for a 30 ML but $62 for a 60 ML "JUST IN CASE I LOVE IT", ridiculous thinking, I know. Anybody else think this way and do this? Anyway, this was on my want list for so long. I thought I'd love it due to the notes. I don't. It smells like a fruity conditioner. I'm sorry to anybody who really enjoys this but I don't understand paying the kind of money this sells for to smell like fruity conditioner. I'm sure that there is a body spray available somewhere that smells like this. It has Love Spell vibes but I liked that one. This is a hard pass.

emilia123

Absolutely love this scent. Could not stop sniffing my wrist once it dried down. Agree with others that this is more of a "cool" vanilla- not ambery or spicy at all. However, I think this is one of the most versatile scents one can own- great for day or night, winter or summer, and basically any age.

Edit: this original review was based on a sample I had used after being in storage for a few years. Recently got a full size and there is something off about it (possible reformulation)... but it definitely has more sharp notes and less of that vanilla softness that I liked so much before.

anneymn

I don’t like this in the winter, I love it in the summer.

In the winter is has an unwelcoming cool black licorice nuance. Not actually black licorice, but that’s the best I can think to describe it.

In the summer the vanilla is much warmer and welcoming, it’s a bit powdery and the black licorice type of scent becomes soft, it lasts long and strong, it’s beautiful in the summer.

This isn’t floral, not floral we are commonly familiar with at least like jasmine, it’s a unique vanilla. It’s not a gourmand vanilla, it’s like a vanilla you know you shouldn’t eat. Interestingly Passion flower, although parts are edible, other parts contain cyanide, in the leaves for example, to help protect the plant from being eaten.

This isn’t a safe blind buy (unless you are a collector) or to buy someone as a gift without knowing specifically what they like.

I think this is one you don’t want to overspray, I could see it becoming like bug spray strong if oversprayed, you don’t need a lot of it.

I get scent fatigue with a lot of perfumes, where within maybe 20 minutes it can become hard for me to smell the perfume on myself, this one doesn’t do that, something about it doesn’t let my nose ignore it completely, which I appreciate, but that can also become sickening in the wrong setting.

Catmo

I’ve heard this described as a cold vanilla and I’d definitely have to agree. I grabbed a bottle when I heard it was being discontinued because I’d been wanting to try it. The bottle I have was made in 2013 surprisingly. I think the passion fruit in the opening is what makes this vanilla cold. Not your typical vanilla. I’m not quite sure how this could be disliked, it seems like it would be a crowd pleaser. It’s really nice and could easily be worn year round.

MiniMena

Hypnose...oh how I love thee! I purchased a mini of this, then a 10 ml sample , now I have big, beautiful full-size bottle. I think it's the passionflower and vanilla that really tug at my heart strings in this one. It is kind of a blue mood fragrance..a bit mysterious and thick. Soft but not subtle by any means. Longevity is seven plus hours for me.

sj.1996

This has always reminded me of a more expensive, more complex version of Coty Vanilla Fields, and I don't mean that in a bad way because I love Vanilla Fields, cheap though it is.
First time I smelled Hypnose was right after it came out, in one of those Cosmo magazine fold outs and I knew I had to have it. I didn't have much to compare it to when I bought it back then but it lasted longer than anything else I had and it became my "date night" perfume. I was in my 20s then, 40s now and I feel like it is perfectly appropriate for both age groups (some fruity scents make me feel like a girl, not a woman).
Now for the "but": while it smells lovely to me even now, the overall projection, longevity and sillage are lacking compared to my other Lancomes (La Nuit Tresor, Idole, La Vie Est Belle), not all the way gone in 3-4 hours but down to faint traces. Yes, my bottle is now aged but this was true when it was a brand new bottle too. Despite that, I would probably buy a new bottle if I needed to.

Eveningrose

This doesn’t smell floral at all first of all . Where is the jasmine and gardenia !? All I smell is this sour type smell ( guessing the passionflower? ) and vanilla . It is a unique scent . I don’t see myself particularly reaching for this . It does perform well and is long lasting . It lasts until u wash ur cloths . It can be used for layering I guess but by itself I am not a big fan! BTW this smell is almost identical to Ani by Nishane so if you like this scent , you may love Ani as well! I prefer a warmer and sweeter vanilla so this isn’t for me .

@Aisabelle
wow… if you’re addressing me or my review, allow me to clarify it for you. You may have heard the term, “lighten the fuck up”, no? I can read impersonal, objective reviews anywhere on the internet. If you like missionary position type of reviews, that’s fine. Realize that not everyone does. I come here to share my experiences of not only the notes, longevity, sillage, etc. More importantly, I like to touch on how a perfume makes me feel, the memories I have attached to them, cultural associations and yes, some humor. I know that what I write doesn’t cater to the uptight Karens and Debbie Downers on here so I do understand your confusion. Comparing four paragraphs to a “creative novel” is just a little dramatic but I’m not surprised since that’s usually the attitude people like you have when they want to speak to the manager… My reviews won’t ever be the derivative, snarky, bland, cut and dry critiques that you put out. We just happen to think differently. Have some fun with this, my God! There’s more than one crayon in a box, is there not? People have messaged me to let me know they enjoyed reading my review and that makes me happy because that’s what being on here should be about. I know that I have been a fool for way less things in life so if what I said made someone smile then I appreciate it no matter how annoying or tasteless you found it. Why shouldn’t we have a place dedicated to expressing a passion or to positively share with each other and be lighthearted in a world that has enough darkness in it at the moment? It’s fine if you don’t care for a review but get over yourself a little bit. You’re not some witty moral compass. You are just another person with an opinion on the internet that happens to like perfume the way I do. So what is the disconnect exactly? Why focus on the differences and not the similarities? Try treating this site like a buffet-take a lot of what you like and leave whatever you don’t. There’s no need to rudely remark on what it is you leave behind. You seem like you’re real classy so you should have better manners than that. There’s enough space for everyone here. Our reviews don’t have to be cookie cutter 🌞✌️

Aisabelle

Can people ever review a fragrance without penning a 500 page creative novel rife with insipid details about everything except the perfume and endless, annoying attempts at humor? You may have heard that brevity is the soul of wit, no?

Juliennne

I decided to give this perfume another chance, it still smells terrible (it stinks). I have the original bottle bought from Lancôme website, if it were fake I would have understood. I don’t think I will ever wear this perfume again. I’ll give It out to someone else who will appreciate it.

Lcprickett

Versatile and feminine- a unique floral vanilla with a hint of something tropical from the passion flower note. I really enjoy this composition and think it’s a beautiful scent year round. Not too light that it disappears in colder weather but not too heavy as to overwhelm you in warmer climates.

AutumnJewel

Note For Myself: Love the Passion flower note , so unique to me.
A sweet unique floral but not super complex.
Decently long lasting and I love the bottle .

master ora

Beautiful Warm, Clean and gentle Vanilla.
An inviting scent thats cosy and lasts on the heat of your skin.

yourbestie

beautiful, very feminine, signature scent worthy. smells similar to JPG la belle without the pear note and with added floral notes. a scent with a character, sexy but cozy, cant stop smelling myself. yes its an older perfume but somehow it doesnt smell dated…definitely more stunning and original than lancomés more recent creations.

swedishmilk15

Agree with the reviewer mentioning the old coat. It has a waxy roseart crayon, old fruit smell. It smells cold from the flowers and sweet from the wood, which is opposite of what I'm used to in a perfume. Vanilla adds warmth but not sugar. This is intoxicating. I can't stop smelling myself. It would be a shame for Lancôme to discontinue this only to make room for more La Vie Est Blah (sorry 😂) flankers. Bewitching.

Edit: love this, reminds me of Rochas Tocade, another all-time favorite. HUGE compliment-getter. I need another bottle.

Melaniesherriff

Sweet woody floral scent, I like it alot reminds me so much of the frangipani flowers. It's long lasting and politely noticeable not overpowering. A good choice if you in a tight office space with other people.

Rondoflaca

This reminds me of an old womans coat, eaten by moths, but something about it makes me keep sniffing it.

DieT CroaK

I can remember the Hypnôse heyday with vivid clarity. You couldn’t walk into an Ulta, Sephora or by a makeup counter without being visually bombarded by it. As a sensory bonus, you could usually expect to walk through a misty, lingering veil from the displayed tester bottle. I couldn’t flip through a magazine without seeing a Hypnôse advertisement. All of this and it still didn’t grab my attention until I smelled it on my best friend. She had the bottle in her bag one day and I remember thinking that it smelled like Love Spell on steroids. I didn’t have much exposure to perfume at that time so that’s all I could really compare it to. After a night of sweaty club dancing and this not missing a beat to waft around me was when I promptly proceeded to buy my own bottle. It was this sensual, witches brew vibe that garnered a lot of male compliments. It made you feel like it was well within your power to wave your hand and usher in a rainstorm at any given moment. It gave the vibe of being the fourth (or fifth depending on how you felt about Prue) Halliwell sister. There truly used to be a certain mystical luster about this perfume in pre-reformulation years. This was a real investment back then because it was more exclusive and expensive than a lot of perfumes at the time. You usually went to the actual store to purchase fragrances then. Internet shopping wasn’t new of course, but definitely not as prevalent or accessible as it is now. Your purchases had to be more pre-meditated, calculated and deliberate. You know what? Looking back, it was an experience and totally worth the full cost. That bottle really is a thing of beauty! I used to walk past it on my vanity and feel special in some way lol. Anytime I would have friends over they would astonishingly ask, “What perfume is that?!?” I would proudly reply Hyp-Know-Zay pronounced like Courvoisier because I honestly didn’t know better. We all have our Showgirls Verse-Ace moments, okay??? Reformulation hasn’t really impacted the bottle design of Hypnôse. It isn’t nearly as impressive now considering how many pretty bottles there are floating around in the comprehensive Fragrantica sea. It’s still however one of my favorite bottles in my collection. It’s also sentimental as I haven’t been without a bottle since 2008. Hypnôse has seen me through growing pains, trials, tribulations, sweet days, sour days, highs, lows and everything in between. For that, I am always going to love it.

Let’s talk about La Vie Est Belle for a minute. I feel like Lancome pours their blood, sweat and tears into whatever individual fragrance is their cash cow at the moment. This happens to be LVEB now but used to be Hypnôse prior to 2012. They did this musical chair routine with a particular fragrance before Hypnôse was created. Hi, Tresor!!!! Expanding the Hypnôse line was smart on their part as it drew more buzz to the other products in the line, particularly various mascaras and eyeshadows that are still going strong to this day. LVEB might not have any cosmetics attached to it but I swear that it spawns more popular flankers than any other line apart from Alien. I would consider Hypnôse and LVEB related. They are absolutely not dupes. Hypnôse would be like the exotic, independently wealthy, eccentric, earth mother aunt to a conventionally attractive, reserved but liberal, polished niece that is LVEB. Granted, my familiarity of LVEB is pretty limited because I have never actually owned it. With that being said, I can’t get away from it. I’ve had samples. I have smelled it both in stores and on people. Those commercials are unavoidable especially around the holidays. It just doesn’t do anything for me. They couldn’t have picked a better person than Julia Roberts for the face of this fragrance. You encounter it and you’re like, “Oh, it’s her again! Yay!!!!! Wait, haven’t I seen this before? Hmmm… I wonder what else is on.” Don’t get me wrong, I love Julia Roberts. I know her entire dialogue from Pretty Woman and idolize Vivian. Don’t judge me… I feel the same way about LVEB. It’s a decent enough perfume but it’s lacking in some ways overall for my personal tastes.

Anyway, bringing it back to Hypnôse. Or Eeeep-Knows for the people like me that are unsure of the pronunciation. It might not be your cup of tea but for those of us whose cup of tea it is, our thirst for it is now unquenchable. A curious thing happened in 2012. We thought the world was going to end according to the Mayan calendar. It didn’t but for perfume lovers, it might as well have. This is the year that IFRA took a sledgehammer to many beloved perfumes by passing strict ingredient regulations. As a result, reformulations were made that demoted some of our favorite fragrances to watered down shells of what they once were. Houses like Dior protested but were “ordered” to comply. If you put on your tin foil hat for a second, compliance was in the better interest for these established houses. By cutting the more quality ingredients and tweaking the formulations meant less production/overhead costs resulting in bigger net profits. They were never obligated to divulge reformulations being made or the ingredients that were altered. The average consumer would be none the wiser that their favorite perfume/cologne was now a diluted replica. Yes, I believe Elvis and Tupac faked their deaths and are living quiet lives in Montana and Cuba. I believe in the Loch Ness Monster. I also believe perfume companies worked in tandem with IFRA behind the scenes to push these regulations no matter how much public lip service they paid of being against it. It was an easy scheme to collect more coin. True, some ingredients like oakmoss and LOTV have been proven to cause allergies. Certainly not to the extent of the claims listed in IFRA’s regulations. It’s a ruse, people!!!! Okay, tin foil hat off. Thankfully, the truth is being declared with sites like this one. Case in point, Hypnôse. People are exposing the fact that this isn’t the same and yet there’s nothing in the notes that would justify such a radical, horrendous reformulation. From my own experience, I can confirm that this has been slaughtered. My first bottle was potent as hell. I could shower and still smell traces of Hypnôse lingering. Lancome had to design an Eau Legere companion flanker because it was notoriously so beastly. Not everyone could stomach it. My 2017 bottle sucks in comparison. The Passion flower note that used to be so exotic and intoxicating is particularly muted. The vanilla that should have aged like wine is barely there. This could now easily be confused for a Fragrancenet clearance section Green Tea flanker. The bloom is tragically off this rose. For over a decade, Lancome has been watering this down inconspicuously each year only to sell it for the same price. Essentially, we are paying well over $50 for something you could buy at TJ Maxx or Burlington for 20. For shame. I guess they are currently pulling this crap with LVEB from what’s being said on here. They probably will do likewise with Idole in the future. And you actually wonder why nobody wants to pay full price for designer perfumes anymore???

Lancome must now be designating a huge chunk of their profits solely for advertising. And it works for them! It’s dishonest and deceptive but effective nonetheless. I hear Hypnôse is on the chopping block and potentially being discontinued. All I have to say on that is good riddance. It’s not the same fragrance at all. They murdered it back in ‘12. It fades in under an hour of wear time. All the fun, creative energy has been sucked out of it. I intend on using the rest of my bottle but if anyone knows of a perfume that smells like the original Hypnôse, please share. The ‘reminds me of’ section here is a little sketchy. Maybe nothing really comes close. I really am going to miss the witchy woman vibe I used to feel wearing this. But alas…

Au revoir, Hypnôse. It’s been a fun ride while it lasted 😘

AnlisaC

This reminds me of LVEB (original). Maybe this is why this is being phased out!

Panny84

This could be nice if it weren't for the overpowering lilial note. This is very harsh to begin with. When it dies down a bit, the warm, sweet, powdery core can be detected but the lilial never goes away and ruins what could have been a pleasant perfume.

Shwets

I tried the edp version over the weekend and couldnt believe how much watered down this has become since I tried this last about 8 yrs ago. Unbelievable as before I couldnt stomach it and now I can! A gentle warm liquorice scent. It's very pretty.

shalimaraddict

It could be it’s not available in certain regions, or it hasn’t been pulled yet. I’m in Canada, and you can’t get it anywhere. It’s not on their UK site (but oddly enough Hypnose Senses is)

townson

I love this 😀 so different and warm smelling

amxx

Very earthy to me, like some sort of root or smth. Hate this, even though I love vanilla. The vanilla in this is like a cold vanilla pudding made with water instead of milk. If that makes ANY sense.

eau de dosa

I still see this in Dillard’s, Macy’s, etc

Miss Dolittle

This can still be bought from Allbeauty

shalimaraddict

I spoke with a Lancome rep today and they confirmed that Hypnose has been discontinued :( I was trying to order it from their site. I really like this unique scent. It's so sad.. I guess to make room for the many La Vie Est Belle flankers.

helenearne

I bought this in my late teens and I LOVED it! I probably still would, had it not been for the fact that this was the perfume where I realized heavy vanilla scents trigger a headache for me.
That aside, it smells delicious. It's a very pretty, warm yet crisp scent - in the way that a flower field in summer in southern france is warm yet smells fresh and crisp. It's also very distinct, in that while it's a "pretty" perfume it does not smell like any other perfume - you know it's Hypnose when you smell it! Definitely signature-worthy.
Could easily be worn by all age groups in my opinion! Also great year-round.

mel_hellraiser

I have tried many perfumes throughout the years, but I will always be coming back to this one!! My personal favorite. It's mostly a winter scent, but without it being too heavy, I also wear it on some summer night outs.. It has a mild powdery freshness that tones down the sweetness of the vanilla. A truly unique, classy scent.

hazi

I think it has a very different vanilla interpretation compared to the others on the market. a perfume like its name

Juliennne

This perfume smells terrible! I have an original bottle purchased from Lancôme website, I had high expectations due many positive reviews but I’m gutted. I’ve never smelled anything like this before, it’s very unique in a bad way. I wouldn’t recommend 😷

I’ll give it 1/10 due to amazing longevity.

schatzrose

Classy vanilla scent with a character is how i would describe this beauty. I am about to finish the third bottle throughout the years, and i feel like i won’t ever get enough of the coziness of Lancome Hypnose and will keep getting back to it. To me this is such an underrated perfume. A must have for vanilla fans too 😊

PS: I use it any time of the year & day, and it doesn’t get close to being overwhelming.

I’ll always love you my hypnotic beauty but it’s time to let you go now. You’ll be remembered 💙

WakeUpAndSmelthe...

Wearing it is like putting on the cosiest, most luxurious winter coat, and wrapping yourself up to nose… Mmm, if the softest cashmere had a natural smell, that would be it. I can imagine wearing it you can brace the coldest winter, preferably in Manhattan, going for a winter walk and a coffee with your best girlfriend. It’s so delicious.

Comrade Zagoryanskaya

So again this is one of the perfumes I have inherited a few years ago. And a large sealed bottle too. By that time I preferred Garcons, Lutens and Ford and this seemed like a sweet, mass and uninteresting type of fragrance I would not wear. So I had tossed it in a large box with the others and forgot all about it. Last year however when a parfumaniac in me started to raise her head I became intrigued by how I would perceive this now. As the package was sealed I ordered a sample and … oh my God, I would have never thought I’d find this so delicious and alluring. It is indeed sweet and vanilly-ish but it’s also quite delicate and by no means cloying or overbearing like some vanilla frags from niche power houses. Also it does not have any spice, oud or oriental vibe which often accompany vanilla. Not saying spicy oudy oriental is a bad thing - I have plenty, but it’s nice to have another kind of vanilla for a change: not Vanille Fatale or Dark Vanilla amber type, but floral, powdery and tender sweet type. Eventually I’ve opened the sealed bottle that had been waiting all these years and am thoroughly enjoying it especially in this cold time of year. PS Oh and longevity is great - after applying it early in the evening I can still feel it the next day from my skin.

Thegrimmreaderr

A beautiful year-round floral vanilla. It starts off somewhat of a green floral vanilla then dries down to a subtle vanilla. Stunning.

beautynerd

This fragrance is very pretty and not in a nice girl type of way. It’s sexy, and mysterious. The wood notes and that beautiful whiff of passionfruit along with what is lending that licorice note (similar to Lolita lempicka) makes it all a lovely seductive and mysterious floral with that oriental twist. It’s wearable for daytime for someone who has bold style or personality. Otherwise it’s a great fragrance for evening events, date nights or winter. Projection is pretty strong.

If Mon Guerlain had a Latin lover, Hypnôse would be their love child. Passionate, sultry, warm, with a vanilla woody undertones, she screams, "Take me, I'm yours." The delicate, Purple Passionflower shows her strength, her charms, her allures. She will not be tamed by the vanilla, nor will she be ruled over by her jasmine-gardenia side. She lives life on her terms. She stays out too late, but she loses nothing of her sultriness. Her passion is eternal.

After having used up my first 80ml (50+30ml birthday&Christmas presents) of Hynose I gave it a break for many years, but the memory never left me and I always knew that I would re-visit Hypnose.

Hypnose still performs well. It's long lasting 6-8 hrs on me and a skin scent after 12 hours and it projects moderately. I can't smell it at all after the first few hours on me, unless I make an effort to smell it. I hate the top note now. I don't rmemeber Hypnose initially smelling so awful on me.

I still like the middle notes and base though Hynose doesn't smell as classy and hynotic as I remember. I don't know if the formula's changed? My skin chemistry? Tastes? I first got Hypnose for my 29th birthday and I just turned 45 y.o.

There's also something jarring about the top note - it most closely resembles liquorish root to me and I remember elderly people chewing that as a kid and I could never stand the taste or smell (not sweet or salty like candy liquorish), so for the first 30 minutes I just tolerate Hypnose.

I won't repurschase once I've used up the two 30ml bottles I have now. There's about 45ml to go before both bottles are empty, so that's a couple more Winters because I can't wear Hypnose on school days or once my apprenticeship in social - and healthcare starts. I'd like to find another fragrance with the same mid -and base notes that will smell the same on me as Hypnose through those stages.

Enrium

I recently purchased a bottle of Hypnôse purely for nostalgic reasons. As a child, I was very taken with the Daria Werbowy ad campaign, as well as the distinctive twisted bottle with its purple liquid. At that stage, I was also intrigued by the concept of hypnotism (I was a fantasy fan as a kid), so the name sealed the deal. This all led to me picking it out as a present for my mom one Christmas - the sweet scent inside appealed to my childish nose then too. It ended up being for my benefit, as I sometimes sprayed it on myself in her bedroom. I haven't smelled it since then (c. 2006). Mom clearly didn't think it warranted repurchasing!

Upon opening and rediscovering Hypnôse now, it is too sweet for my taste, but evokes memories of that time. It is a fairly trite, syrupy floriental, almost heading into gourmand territory thanks to the vanilla note that dominates throughout. It opens with a nice passionflower note - fruity, slightly tropical and lighthearted. The vanilla (which is of a surprisingly decent quality) quickly takes over. Muted, clean jasmine emerges as it develops. The florals are soft and lovely, but are choked by the vanilla. It is simple and linear, fading to a slightly woody vanilla skin scent. Sillage is moderate-to-strong, and longevity is pretty good - the vanilla lasts for hours.

I am a fan of both perfumers, and feel that their budget must have been quite restricted, as this scent is not worthy of either. Very mediocre and ultimately disappointing, I will only keep it for nostalgic purposes. Honourable mention for the lovely bottle however. 2/5.

KladfvbungMicshk

It’s hard for me to be unbiased because I have both great and horrible life experiences with this perfume, but I do think it’s a beautifully created fragrance that manages to be unique. It’s under-rated for sure. It’s sparkly for being vanilla, and the vetiver is definitely there in the dry down in the most feminine way possible. The sweetness pervades through from the beginning to the end, kind of like La Vie est Belle but a cooler (less warm) vibe. Not everyone likes this perfume though, so I’d be cautious wearing this to work or for any other professional setting.

Marlo48

This came home last Sunday in my samples I ordered. I had ordered it checking the reviews, notes and all other details online. Finally, it was time to try this sample. First impression: Calm. Super peaceful and relaxing. I was actually anxious that day for my interview but this one relaxed me so much that I felt so calm and pleasant. There is delicious creamy vanilla in it that is light yet refreshing. A true meditation scent that is feminine and super delightful invoking the feel of calmness and well-being. With this scent, you can never go wrong. Wear it to a party or to interview, you will be overjoyed with it for sure. There is no chance of disappointment making it a great gift choice. This scent always made me smile and is absolute delicate yet stunning.

Millapetrovich

I love this perfume so much! It was one of my first perfumes back in 2005, we were living in Italy by the time, my mom went shopping one day and got this for me saying it reminded her of me!
It’s beast mode in longevity which is a plus!

ScentFan2021

I absolutely LOVE the opening of this perfume. Unfortunately, as it dries down, it smells very vintage, which is not my thing. This happened on my skin and my clothing. But, it is still fine.

SalinasL

Like a reviewer below I also get a strong anise/black licorice scent from this one. It reminds me of the dandelion & burdock drink you can get in the UK. That in itself is not terribly problematic, but I can’t get past the first 20 minutes. It is so chemical-smelling, I always end up scrubbing it off. I’m fairly sure the dry down with vanilla and vetiver would be nicer but I can never get there.

Edit 2023: I tried this again recently and unfortunately it’s still a “nope” on me.

Szafirowy czar

Nice night time fragrance, I'll get back here and leave a more accurate review once I wear it more often

b.a.denney

I wore this today, and I keep smelling anise. It's not a listed note, so not sure why I'm smelling it so strongly. I'd love to smell more vanilla, but on me I really don't smell much vanilla. It does seem to be pretty long lasting. Not sure how much it projects, but I can still smell it on myself five hours after spraying.

Atomikbomb_

I wanted to like this and tried it recently, to no avail whatsoever.

It opens with kind of a muggy fruit cocktail, and stays a little heavy that way for a while (I didn't care for it, and it's possible that that's why I felt it was strong...things always seem larger when you dislike them). It quite honestly didn't feel particularly special to me at all, and I've disliked the heavy fruit melange of Idole Intense as well, but this was different in that it was more tropical. Like hot fruit sitting outside.

It melts and pools into a vanillic puddle atop the fruit, and felt oppressive. I didn't notice much in the way of florals (maybe just a hint of jasmine), vibrant or intriguing to help the fragrance develop.

Lancome makes some thick, gloopy sweet stuff. Sometimes I like it, and enjoy the original La Vie Est Belle, Tresor, and Midnight Rose. Other times, I dislike their hefty sweeties...as is the case here. There's not necessarily a set parameter, but for some reason this one doesn't have my number, and I truly expected that it would, because it looks nice on paper. Bummer, because I love the bottle!

LSAUG

I was out and about a few days ago and smelled this and thought what the hell happened?! This was my sister's signature scent 10 years ago until she switched to Hypnotic Poison and I always liked it. Heck I was the one who picked it out for her when we were shopping for perfume. She said she wanted a good clean sweet musky scent and I picked Hypnose.. But when I smelled the bottle in Ulta the other day I was like what the hell?! It smelled like burning plastic! Did they change the formula? Maybe the bottle is old and has gone off but let me tell you it didn't smell like that sweet, fruity musk my sister wore for 10 years. If they changed the formula that is a shame because this was a nice perfume and a safe blind buy years ago.

Cloud_9

This smells like a gardenia soap bar. I hate it. Nauseating and headache inducing.

theangelicone

i really wanted to like this, because everyone commented on the vanilla and how its so "perfect", but i cannot stand the smell. i don't know what makes me dislike this so much. maybe the passion flower is just too much, mixed with the other flowers. as someone said...it smells like an air freshener. an air freshener that i would not purchase.

Frontandscenter

Very disappointed. Turns into a skinscent almost immediately. A nice blast of perfume for a few seconds, and then almost nothing. Even though I overspray like crazy.
I’m really confused. Did I get a fake? A bad batch?

Too bad. The precious little time I can smell it, it’s gorgeous. Licoricey and fresh.

marinejuana

This is a great vanilla fragrance which is unique but familiar at the same time. To be honest, I like sweet scents but vanilla is not my favorite note because I find it kinda tiring and nauseating. But Lancome hypnose serves vanilla in an unusual way and I feel special while wearing it.

AuraAngelMuse

This is a very pretty scent but it smells almost exactly like Bath and Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar on me, which you can get for like 15 bucks or less as opposed to 40-50+ for Hypnose. I get the licorice vibe a tiny bit when first applied, but it's very subtle for me. It basically smells the same for me for the entire wear. It smells like sugar cookies. It doesn't project very well but it lasts a moderate amount of time.

shalimaraddict

I remember working in a department store when this fragrance launched. There was a bowl of delicious hard vanilla candy. I will always remember the taste and forever associate it with this scent. This is a vanilla centric scent which has an interesting twist with vetiver. The passion fruit plays an important part of the composition of this scent. It's a really unique scent, not too sweet or floral, the vetiver grounds it all with a woody base. This is a very unisex fragrance that leans more feminine.

Faverinsky

I LOVE this perfume but it gives me a rash! Honestly, I have a small collection of about 46 perfumes and this is the ONLY one that gives me allergies, and not just subtle, I mean a red, bumpy, inflamed, and extremely itchy neck rash that I've never experienced before! Has anyone experienced this with Hypnose? I hate it because I looove the passionflower, vanilla, musky masterpiece that this fragrance is, but I cannot wear it. If anyone would like to trade, please pm me!

NiceSmellingTeen

This one is my favorite from the house of Lancome. And it is one of the few perfumes that I've ever tried that gives me some special sensation while smelling it. I also have some memories from childhood that flash whenever I smell this masterpiece. It is one of those very sweet but still airy perfumes, and I definitely prefer it in warmer days when it blooms. It smells like some kind of candy mixed with soap in the best way possible. I definitely recommend you guys to try it, its really special.

Hypnôse is both invigorating and soothing. Pepper and spice as it hits the skin, drying down into a lush vanilla with a hint of the tropics, thanks to the passionflower. A peppery, alluring vanilla fragrance.

Mariamaija Amélie

Utter sophistication in a lovely bottle. A clean, beautiful and easy-to-wear scent to me. Not overpowering in any way, but not shy either. Longevity is moderate and sillage is okay if sprayed generously in my experience. I gladly reapply through the day just for the pleasure of it. Flowers, soft vanilla and vetiver mixed perfectly if you enjoy something not too heavy and sweet, but still feminine and memorable.

Dulcette91

It’s very different. Soapy, powdery but with a sharp citrus white floral twist and a soft vanilla drydown. Not everyone will like it as it can be quite sharp and shocking, but I adore it. Projection impressive at first, fades to a skinscent within 2-3 hours on me. I bought this because I remember my grandmother wearing it, it will forever remind me of her - classy, sophisticated, feminine.

Enchanted77

A very soft and pretty scent that has great silliage and longevity. I receive compliments everywhere I go with this properly named hypnotic scent, as it’s a crowd pleaser for both men and women. I believe this is very easy to wear for any woman and I would be surprised if it were offensive to anyone. Very feminine. If you live in the Southern USA, you’ll constantly hear, “Who smells so good??” when wearing this blue jewel!

stacey.wimshurst14

Huge fan of this Perfume! This straight up smells like lifesaver musk lollies to me and I love it! A cheaper version of this pefume to me is Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely.

Gelindee

Except for the longevity, I love this perfume. On introduction, I immediately thought of Hypnotic Poison, but Hypnose is prettier and gentler on approach. I just wish it lasted longer on me - 4-5 hours max. Otherwise, this would be a definite must have.

malikun

Some of Thierry Wasser's fragrances that I have tried have such a unique and kind of unforgettable twist, very polarizing though, Hypnose is no exception. Idylle - straight-up annoying lilly-of-the-valley/lilac combo for me, while many people rave about it. Petit Robe Noir - safer option with a chic cherry/almond twist, but very young though, like a freshman year girl from Harvard type of smell. Bruno Banani Woman - polarizing but still unforgettable, very close to Gucci Rush. And Hypnose - amazing powdery passionfruit, very soft on some and ve repelling on others. I got a 3.4 oz bottle for myself after testing but after a while, the note that attracted me so much started to bother me. I had to buy a smaller bottle first. Next time I will go from 3o ml to 50ml or 100ml, instead of trying to resell or gift...

cocolily1

This was my first introduction to powdery scents as I bought this in summer 2015. It’s gorgeous and stands out as a great perfume...to layer with. It is far too sweet and not complex enough to wear alone. It gives me almost chocolate vibes, laced with vanilla. I enjoy the sharpness of it too once worn with other scents as it complements spicy perfumes

Ellsa

One of the best perfumes from Lancome. I used to wear this in the university and everyone was asking me the name of the perfume. I think this perfume work well also for young women but also for more mature ones. It's mysterious, doesn't smell cheap. Mostly I feel vanilla and coconut in it, I really don't smell any Gardenia or Jasmine in it.

Edit: I bought again a new bottle of this, and now I understand why everyone used to love this. Now I see it different than years ago, it’s mysterious and hypnotic indeed. Smells sooo different from everything that is on the market today, that are almost all the same, boring, weak and unoriginals. I can’t believe it wasn’t continuous in my collection. This is for sure one of the most unique perfumes. So happy I bought it again.

Gunny

IDK you guys. I can't even smell any vanilla in it. It's a very heavy scent, maybe coconut oil or sth like that. I can't imagine myself wearing it summertime but only fall. After a few hours I almost smell a minty scent which I like but Idk if this is the case for people around me. I think it would smell bomb with the right outfit and attitude though... :)

KylieBooFace

I don't regret buying this because I love the beautiful twisted diamond of a bottle. The fragrance itself, however, is extremely disappointing. I got a very plastic-y, powdery Vanilla with a touch of licorice (in a bad way). I was hoping for a summer vanilla, if that makes sense.

Meanwhile, Sexual Sugar by Michel Germain (in the metal travel spray) has a passion flower smell if I want it. If you want a great gourmand perfume with similar blue bottle aesthetic, go Mugler Angel 2019 EDT 🥰 It's fruity and gourmand.

alexandradaos

Wow.

Pure, total, complete love. I enjoy vanilla fragrances but find that some of them are too heavy, cloying and serious for day to day wear. Then I bought this, because it seems to retail for a very good price lately (are people bored of this?).

And I found the most wearable vanilla, the vanilla I can take with me anywhere, on a fluffy sweater, on a leather jacket, in shorts on the beach, in the middle of the forest, flying to see my family, watching a movie with my boyfriend.

But above all, what makes this scent a complete and utmost love for me is its evocative nature. It reminds me of my childhood, in a weird manner that I cannot necessarily pinpoint. It reminds me of Paxeladine cough syrup, of eating sweets in the park, of admiring a beautiful lady neighbor, of heartache and love. I am convinced it's the blend of sweet vanilla and passion flower that does this trick for me. Everything feels cold and slightly distant, just like some artificially sweetened cough syrup in a silver spoon, tasting like burnt crystallized sugar... but then there's the 'thing', some note that transports you into a safe, happy, warm and nostalgic place.

Smells like a clean doctor's office, kindness and that little excitement in your tummy that you feel when you're thinking of what could be behind a closed 'do not enter' door. I think the name suits the fragrance - not 'hypnotic' as in 'mesmerizing', but more like infiltrating into some parts of my mind where cherished but not often visited memories live. It speaks to my heart.

Performance is decent. Bought a 75mL bottle, and immediately bought a 50mL back-up, 'just in case'.

u24masonl

This is a sweet, comforting scent. Very vanilla (quite literally) and inoffensive. To me, it almost smells like Parma Violets mixed with fresh air-dried laundry. It's fairly linear - a bit like a hug - but very sweet and doesn't have enough bite and complexity for me. I imagine if this had a bit more spice to it, it would be really rather lovely.

I am now coming to the end of my bottle, and I don't think I will be repurchasing it. Got some good daytime wear out of it though (particularly in the winter months).

ellementira

This was my signature scent in high school in '05/'06, and I dusted it off recently to see if I could power through the last few mLs. Nope, this is just wwaaaay too sweet for me now, although I can see why I loved it so back then. Saccharine sweet vanilla and licorice, a bit "dated" to its time, a time that smells like Lolita Lempicka, Dior Addict, and Victoria's Secret Love Spell in my memory, when oriental gourmand met the volume button. It just stays this loud, sweet, obnoxious vanilla/licorice cloud forever, and sticks to your clothes the next day as vague bubble gummy sweetness. I remember discovering Hypnotic Poison shortly afterwards, and that became my next signature scent, which makes sense because smelling it now, Hypnose could be the baby sister to Hypnotic Poison (and the Dior fragrances and LL were composed by Annick Mendardo who made Hypnose too). I'll have to test the reformulation to compare, but I would recommend this fragrance to anyone who loves intensely sweet vanilla fragrances that aren't too on-the-nose vanilla extract.

Cosmina07

Even if it s no lemon listed among the notes to my nose it feels like a vanilla cream sprinkled with some powdered sugar and lemon sauce, it does not have the wow factor but it is a nice scent and well blended

Lixa

Right, those of you who don't like this scent, no need for apologies. It has the smell and intensity of tap water;))
Seriously, it's too weak to make anything out of it. (Current issue)

A plus for the packaging though.

Later edit: Tested it again on a paper strip, and it's quite nice indeed, fragrance-wise. There is vanilla and something aromatic, a little bitter (I guess that must be the licorice ??).
It's distinctive allright, but still, too weak. With so many people talking about big sillage, I suspect they've watered it down. Lancome hardly ever dissapoints, so this would be a first.

Josie_xo

One of my all time fav perfumes! Such a classy vanilla scent. Can’t go wrong in my opinion gold for winter and summer. Work setting and date night!

TennesseeGirl88

I went to Belk to purchase La Vie Est Belle L'eclat because I have the original and I love it (it's popular for a reason). After testing L'eclat and a few other perfumes including perfumes from other brands Hypnose was the one that I just had to have. I love vanilla perfumes and this is one of the best vanilla's out there. Such a hidden gem.

samantham-123

Such a simplistic note composition, I ignored it for a long time even though I was intrigued by the pretty violet liquid and funky bottle. I thought the passionflower would make it real tropical smelling. But this is like icing sugar and licorice for the first few seconds. I find it initially has a licorice smell but if I concentrate on it it's more of an odd combination of bitter white floral and spicy sweetness of passionflower that gives it that smell. Kind of addictive actually.
This stays throughout the entire duration of wearing it. It becomes a thick delicious woody vanilla with a melange of spicy, sweet, marshmallow-y powderiness, soapy florals, luscious tropical nuances, bitter licorice and so much more than it's description would suggest. Lasting power is great but I tend to overspray just to get a fresh hit of that wickedly addictive opening.
This is one of those rare total true loves at first sniff and it's fast become a favorite of mine, second to hypnotic poison. Its one of those ones that fits my chemistry perfectly and it doesn't matter about the weather or anything that would sometimes interfere with how a scent plays out on my skin.
Absolutely love it.

Siliaki

This is the kind of sweet perfume that makes sense to me. I wouldn't wear it myself anymore but I admit it is somehow interesting. It has both beauty and character in contrast with" la vie est Belle "

zoedsilva

What a statement perfume. Love the lasting note it leaves for a day or more.

Sirène Cryptique

Oh. My. GODS.

...WHERE HAS THIS PERFUME BEEN ALL MY LIFE?!

Hypnôse is literal perfection, in a stunning, magic potion flacon... "What you came for — A touch of magic... in this world obsessed with science..." (says Lisle {Isabella Rossellini} in Death Becomes Her) & absolutely how I envisage her own bewitching scent. The scent of a sorceress. I will never not have this in my collection. Definitely a signature for me, one of few. As said below... "Your skin but better". Those are the best perfumes in my opinion, the ones that meld with your natural scent & become you. The most perfectly balanced fragrance I've ever come across. Holy Grail.

***On another note, ha!... There are a few comments below about this apparently being discontinued(?) The first I recall was someone saying a sales assistant told them that they were "not getting any more" & it was being discontinued. Someone else later echoes this in another review saying that they "heard" it was being discontinued. Is this confusion &/or a sales tactic, or is there any truth to this? I am aware that a flanker of Hypnôse was discontinued a while back & maybe that's where the confusion came from? If anyone reading this actually knows if this is true or not, please let me know, so I can start hoarding bottles immediately!
😹 🙏🏻

s801959

I remember buying it as soon as it was first released.

Back then, the sillage was huge.

2 weeks ago, I bought a 2018 version, and it is much weaker than what I used to know and to have.

Hypnose, being a very favorite scent of mine, I will not take another chance and will never repurchase ever again.

I feel quite bad about losing $85 Canadian for my 75ml bottle.

aidaaidica

a beautiful scent, but not for every day and not for every occasion.when I put it I immediately get transfered to the world of fairies and I feel like a Cinderella.Sparkly, sparkly, sparkly!!!it smells exactly like ice cube cake .It is vanilla but not the cosy one, this one is arrogant cold and distant.that is why I cannot wear it always. And when do I wear it ?when the mood is right:it is night, you are taking a quiet walk ,and there are thousands of snowflakes in the air.you see a bench ,take a seat, and watch flying snowflakes on the city lights in a street full of lamps.Color of perfume could not represent it better. And there is something hypnotic in it indeed

HJKImagery

I love the passionflower ,sadly the lasting power is awful on me. I brought this on sale at the perfume shop last week, so maybe it's just the 2020 version that isn't great.

Not what I expected from Lancome :(
The lasting power of La Nuit Tresor far outdoes this.
Then again I do like my perfumes quite strong.

I think it would make a good gift though as the notes it in are quite crowd pleasing

AlexandraTroush

Oh how time changes our perception of things, flavors and scents! I used to absolutely adore this scent in my late teens and younger 20s, so I recently bought a mini to bring those memories back.

I absolutely hate it now! Either the formula changed and it's nothing like it was 10-12 years ago, or my tastes have changed that much since.

Anyway, what I dislike about it now is that it reeks of licorice, a piece of food I absolutely despise (and have always despised) with my entire being. Absolutely horrible. It's not the floral magic and cool elegance I remember it to be.

hexed

I don't know what passion flower is supposed to smell like, but I was expecting kind of fruity.
It's an almost spectral presence. Like a wet sheen or a frost over skin. Nothing meaty or enveloping. A cold, controlled sweetness.

Nicki6089

I just received my bottle today and this is hard to explain but I get coconutty with a hint of vanilla vibe along with plastic, I like it but idk if it's something that I would reach for but it is a unique scent and that's why I like it

Magnoliajo

This reminds me of fruit salad sweets with a dose of vanilla. Very pleasant and cosy and also quite a cold scent which I find refreshing in warmer weather. A great everyday perfume. Lasts about 4 hours on me.

lunic

I quite like this.
It's fresh and fruity then crisp and sweet.
Then it's woody, musky, comforting, powdery, vanilla and creamy but not overly creamy.
It's not one I would reach for on regular basis, just one I might crave on the odd occasion.

Phantomias

H. has been on my want list for a long time. Now it's a part of my collection and yet I'm disappointed. H. is far weaker than expected, lasting power is poor and sillage is almost nil.
The vanilla note is thin and unpleasantly artificial. I prefer strong, realistic vanilla, and H. fails to provide it. Hypnose is a case of too much hype and too little substance.

Rozalina

Gorgeous.

First of all, I'd like to mention that I will not be purchasing or wearing this. I don't crave or gravitate towards tropical notes, they simply don't interest me.

With that disclaimer out of the way, I must admit Hypnose is a beautiful creation. I would categorize this as simultaneously tropical and cozy. The passiflora is undoubtedly the loudest note, and even after the creamy vanilla base emerges, the tart and fruity flower remains. The vetiver elevates this from typical tropical to cozy and classy. It also kind of feels like wrapping yourself in a scarf, I had to check if cashmeran was a note (it's not).

Hypnose is feminine, but not girly. It's memorable and unique without being overbearing, and for that reason, this would make a lovely signature scent.

kkaattjjeess

I purchased this at the beginning of my quarantine blind buy perfume frenzy back in May, and never really wore it, even though I like it. Sweet, strong, potent.

I generally don't have "summer" or "winter" scents (I live in Scotland so no proper summer or winter), but this one seems like it would go better on a chilly autumn/winter walk wearing a turtleneck and trenchcoat. At least that's how I imagine wearing it, will update this in a few months to see how I feel about it then.

kesteny

Wow! What a masterpiece of perfumery and a complement magnet! This scent really takes my senses on a journey.

There is something magical about this perfume and how it creates a soft cloud of vanilla comfort around whoever wears it. But not the sweet sugary kind (which I also like), but a sophisticated creamy and dreamy vanilla surrounded by a gentle but present passion flower and some shy vetiver in the background.

I've worn it for years and no matter how many perfumes I add to my collection, I keep coming back to this gem! In my opinion, anyone of any age could wear this scent at any time of the day in any weather, but I find it works with my skin best in Spring and Autumn.

cmagnolia

Hypnose is a lovely fragrance!

I find it to be deeply calming. For some reason, when I smell it, I imagine a vast blue lake with calm waters, and lotus flowers floating on the surface. Specific--I know, but it is just one of those evocative fragrances.

The vanilla here isn't a heavy, warm, sugary-sweet one, but a chillier, cooler type of vanilla. The passion flower adds a floral hint of fruitiness. The vanilla combined with the other notes gives off a soft oriental vibe, and almost smells a bit like licorice. It's interesting, but ultimately I do not love it enough to purchase a full bottle once I'm done with my vial.

(I picked Hypnose blindly as my favorite fragrance in the line-up of the month at Perfumarie NYC (if you're ever in the NYC area, I recommend reading up on this place and stopping by. It was a cool interactive experience where you get to discover new fragrances without being blinded by the marketing, or knowing which fragrance is from which brand, etc. I don't work there or anything, but I loved it and thought I'd share!) They gave me a sample vial, and I have been enjoying it ever since I went months ago.)

veronique

LawmaLlama

I've been wearing this as my signature off and on for 15 years and love it. I've probably gone through 4 or more bottles, and recently picked up another. I am so happy to have this back in my collection -it is so good! This fragrance has the perfect name. The passion flower and jasmine together dry down to a cool and dreamy vanilla. Not sweet at all. Quite sexy, but can still be worn in the daytime. I prefer this in fall and winter.

InvisibleVehicle

best name and bottle of any perfume released in the 00's (dior pure poison is a close second)

i stared at it in adoration on trips to the mall, hoping it would start revolving and hypnotise me for real. as a kid i didn't like testing perfumes and found them overwhelming until i tried vera wang princess, so i still have no idea what this smells like ? ? ?
vanilla and sugar, surely?

sandsea

wow,I love it. Bought a huge old bottle from a resale shop 7 months ago for 19.00 USD. it's a warm sensual frag. more for nightime or winter, but i wear it whenever. definitely lovely

Jmalone84

What I like about this fragrance is that it’s just the right amount of sweet for me. I’m not into Lancôme’s other offerings such as La Vie Est Belle which I find particularly obnoxious.

On first spray this reminds me a little of YSL Cinema, except with less syrup. The vanilla is not overly warm or sickly but it’s sort of dry and nicely blended in with the Passion flower which gives it a lovely airy almost herbaceous kind of feel. About 20 minutes in the vanilla settles and the jasmine and vetiver is nicely blended in.

I initially poopooed this fragrance but I can see that it has its own place. This also reminds me just a little of Guerlain L’instant. I would say the sillage and longevity on this is pretty soft to moderate. You’ll smell warm and pretty and familiar to your loved ones when they embrace you. Such a pretty and lady like fragrance. I would like to buy this and share it with my mum as I would love to smell this on her.

I thinks this holds its own reasonably well amongst the other designer vanillas out there. I wouldn’t class this as fruity but more woodsy perhaps ...

If you are looking for a vanilla that is not warm and cloying and is suitable for every season day and night, this perfume is for you. It stays linear and lasts and projects like crazy.

This is a very strange vanilla. There is something very familiar yet bland about it. I guess it's my age compared to this. I think when it was released it was something new and exciting. I can definitely see a huge following. However, it may be due to its popularity, and I guess this happens to a lot of popular scents. I feel like this vanilla is in every vanilla scented candle, car diffuser and toilet freshener. It's just the vanilla that gives me this.

Nowadays Vanillas are more richer and accentuated by other compositions, that's why I don't seem to enjoy this one. This also reminds me of Cashmir by Chopard, but more floral.

Sillage is great and it lasts a good 8+ hours, which is a really good thing!

I bought this in a set when it first came out, and this was the first fragrance that I ever used up the full bottle!

Happily, while going through some old boxes, I came across a treasure trove of my old perfumes circa 1995-2005 (before I moved abroad, and left them all behind!). Two 5mL edps of this!

It's still as lovely as I remember: very powdery vanilla throughout, with passion flower --> gardenia --> vetiver gliding along behind the vanilla. I totally agree with @CherriedEmpress (about a dozen reviews below), that there is "an aura of anise or licorice" (although it's not like "La Vie Est Belle" strength).

I also understand the "cold" vanilla comments: it's not a cozy, snuggly kind of vanilla, it's far more aloof. She's more likely to boss you around than try to be your friend, if that makes sense?

It may be because it's an old batch, but the sillage is enormous, and the longevity is fantastic. I will use these up with great relish, but I doubt I would ever repurchase this particular perfume. It's very sweet (which is my jam), but even I find it can be headache-inducing, so I definitely caution against blind buying it!

The rating I would give it (based on scent, longevity, originality, quality/price, versatility, and likelihood of me repurchasing it) would be 81.2/100.

For me it's a smell of sugary and a little bit suffocating "waffle" (I get a feeling of a coconut powder?) and of a white flower..gardenia I love, but not here maybe.. It is not necessarily makes you feel hypnosed, but certainly can make you feel a headache, especially if you apply too much of it at a time... But..the perfume lasts long-that is the plus of it and of course, there is a good aura of a scent around you. If to spray it just 1 time and to go to some party or some celebration-might be a suitable idea. In the office or in another little closed space- it will suffocate people around. With this perfume you cant stay unnoticeable..it will remind to you and to everyone around "I am still here!" so, use it carefully, do not over spray, choice the right occasion and it might work!

This is made by the adopted Guerlain son? This toxic mix of artificial somethings and sugary vanilla!? I guess it goes to show that a perfume must fit a brief and a budget. It has great staying power for sure.

At least he made Dior Addict to atone for this.

One word ... Sensuality '. The women's perfume, for women, the perfume of excellence. Sweet, penetrating, enveloping, vanilla reigns supreme here. It leaves its mark, it lasts all day. When you need a warm and enveloping embrace, this is the right perfume. Here the Maison has hit the mark. This perfume, for me, realizes on an olfactory level what is the essence of Woman!

very pretty and smooth vanilla, unlike the other heavy vanilla/patchouli fragrances I have in my collection. the opening has the passion flower which is different and there is a powdery-ness to it that makes it more mature. as it drys down the passion flower becomes more light and disappears, and what is left is a cold and creamy vanilla. reminds me of vanilla pudding. sweet but sophisticated at the same time. this dry down makes it worth owning, and I will buy a bottle as I heard it is sadly being discontinued.

if you like true vanilla, like vanilla extract vanilla, this is the perfume for you.

RachelSeun

A very mature and underrated vanilla fragrance in my opinion. I feel like Lancome has abandoned this fragrance due to the hype of La Nuit Tresor and La Vie Est Belle, I feel like there is so much potential to expand on the Hypnose line! Hypnose’s opening is very sharp and powdery to my nose, I love to layer it with Jimmy Choo’s Flash and whenever I do I get so many compliments. The vanilla in this fragrance is a very interesting one, it’s not too sweet but takes a more powdery approach but doesn’t becoming overwhelmingly powdery. This is perfect for spring, rainy days and makes a great everyday scent. The projection and longevity are quite decent (4- 5 hours) but not outstanding.

victoria.mei1992

Tries this 6 years ago, very sweet, like passionfruit sugary nail polix scent but in a good way. Tried this only on the paper. When I think about it, it reminds me of Lolita Lempicka L, the same intensive sweetness.

Koton pink crystal-smells like this one if you have their store in town.

I have wanted to sample this for such a long time but had been unable to find it. I had to try it though, so took the plunge and blind bought a small bottle.

Very well blended. The vanilla is refined, cozy and gentle. Creamy soft florals, enriched by musky woody vetiver. It really is a beautiful scent. But..

It is too soft, too quiet. There is no projection for me. It saddens me. Maybe it will perform better during cold weather, although it's not warm here now. I will use it as a bedtime scent because it is cozy, comforting and so pretty.
If only it gave me moderate projection, this would be a love. As it is, it's sadly a like.

Nature has some humour, just look at passion flower.
First things first, Hypnose needs skin to be able to reveal its beauty. On a paper strap or from the bottle it smells boring, linear, plain. On the skin it is a fruity woody vanilla, a grown up vanilla scent. If it was a pastry it would be a plain bun with vanilla cream. Not too sweet yet satisfying when you have a craving. I really like how Hypnose smells on me. This perfume has to do more with skin chemistry than with anything else. Hypnose is three things: fruity passion flower, woody vetiver and sweet vanilla. I am enjoying it.

CherriedEmpress

I tested this fragrance in 2005 when it first came out. It just wasn't for me. It almost smelled good, but there was a suffocating quality to it. There was an aura of anise or licorice that overwhelmed me. Their Hypnose mascara I won through a photo contest on the Lancome Facebook page in 2013 or 2014. I was one of 2 runner-ups. I believe I got a sample of Hypnose eau de parfum along with it and my opinion was still the same. Too much sweet, cloying licorice vanilla. The mascara, on the other hand, was fabulous.

Vanillastorm40

I find nothing Oriental about this scent. It's light and airy and fruity. It's a "like", not a "love".

bel.gravia

intense, sweet, woodsy, mature and grown up.

olliesmom

I love this one. The packaging and color doesn't make me want to pick it up, but when i do, i wonder why i dont use it much more often.

It is a different take of vanilla fragrance. So special. Oh, so special!

meg0825

The initial spray is a burst of sweet and fruity passion flower. Then it starts to turn sour which is not very pleasant. Luckily the sourness fades and what's left is mostly creamy vanilla with a little jasmine. The base is a nice woody vetiver. This stays close to the skin with little projection. Not bad but not great. I was hoping for more.

kattdrake

Hypnose is to me a cool and peaceful vanilla. That together with the fruity passion flower makes it creamy, feminine and bewitching while still letting me rest and keep my sanity. It's sweet, but not too sweet. Simple and yet somehow unique. This is a scent that I recognize when someone wearing it passes me by. I thought I was bored with Hypnose, but after using it again for the first time in about a year I feel like I want to wear it more often.

GinCatsBooks

I've had this fragrance for a while and I am addicted to it, so why the hell have I not written anything about it? I digress..

I love passion flowers, they are the epitome of beautiful to me, they make me think of all things warm and calming whenever I smell them, they make me feel happy. I first stumbled upon Hypnose when I was in Glasgow, the bottle and the beautiful purple liquid caught my attention, when I smelt the sprayer, the scent took me right back, there is something very familiar about it and other than one person I recall smelling it on (a flatmate of an ex used to wear it), I couldnt quite place this feeling of nostalgia, I still cant place it even after 2 years of owning this one either. I purchased a 30ml bottle pretty swiftly and I thoroughly enjoyed wearing it, Hypnose is one of those fragrances that incorporates everything I love in a modern oriental, with a twist.

Hypnose to me, is a cold, musky vanilla, and I actually feel that despite its cold-ness, its quite suited to transitional seasons and winter, however, I have worn it in the summer and It never became cloying or heady, so it could easily be worn year round.

So, this pretty purple stuff opens up with a very strong blast of jasmine and vetiver, which then settles to reveal a slightly fruity, mildly sweet mid; Passion flower and vanilla, and then gardenia pops in to round the whole thing off. The result is a cold, yet somehow, warm mildly sweet and creamy fragrance. I feel that the vetiver is what plays a role in the contrasting cold notes with the warmth of the vanilla. Its quite unique and relaxing.

Longevity and silage are both very good, not quite as strong as La Vie Est Belle (which just never seems to really go away, lets be totally honest) but its very close to that, I can safely wear this in the morning and then go on a night out and still smell this quite strongly.

Now, the reason why I seldom wear this now, I was walking through the city and was going to catch a train home, someone (who had been drinking) kept following me and falling into me exclaiming how wonderful I smelt, I brushed this off and went home. I went out and a similar thing happened, but this was the person that had stumbled onto the train and then fell into me. It seems to be a magnet, but maybe I should wear it again because I'm missing it, but what I will say is, wear at your own risk lol

This scent packs so many good, bad, and bittersweet memories!
This was my first "grown up" perfume. I wore this when I had my first "boyfriend", I wore this when things didn't work out, I wore this when I was exploring my late teens and approaching my twenties. I wore this when I was becoming a playful, attractive, sexy woman.
This used to be the epitome of mystery and sex in my eyes.
This is the kind of scent that will never be mistaken with any other perfume, and you can smell it "in your memory". I still can, after all those years.

I haven't worn or even smelt this in over 10 years, but I want to buy a bottle for the last time before it disappears completely (it is being discontinued now).
I'm afraid of what I might think about it now. Can its image be changed? Can I erase some of the memories connected to it?

Anyway, this is very elegant and sophisticated. I can recommend it to anybody. It's quite long lasting too!

Beautiful perfume, a very nice combination of passion flower, vetiver and vanilla. It smells 'cold' and is quite sweet and calming, and a bit magical. There is indeed a certain synthetic note but I actually enjoy it. It's strong and has excellent longevity, and should not be oversprayed.

kayleenanncooke

Beautiful icy floral vanilla. Stock up while you can I just heard from Macy's that they are discontinuing it. Idk how accurate that is but I hope not. I got the last bottle they had at my local Macy's and she said they are not getting more.

Anast4s1a

In all perfumes Lancome my nose divining captivating note of kashmiran. Hypnose not exception.

Thick viscous sweetness of passionflower, volumetric vanilla.
I'm fond of the combination of gardenia & vetiver in the aroma. Gardenia gives on the Hypnose a velvety charm, and vetiver water down the excessive sweetness of passionflower with herbaceous notes. The usual sounding of jasmine i not feel here.
For me Hypnose doesn't look like anything. It's great replacement for the overly sweet original La Vie est Belle. This is another wonderful discovery that i made among in forgotten fragrances. To me Hypnose by Lancome like a hot coffee ( or hot chocolate) in cloudy day warms, shelters and a little inebriate.
