Repurchased this fragrance today and I am happy to have it.

I owned it a couple of years ago and enjoyed it so much I went through it fast.

Well, I purchased another bottle and it smells just as good as I remember. It's sweet and nutty and powdery but light and airy. Overall, a really pretty scent that doesn't really smell like perfume but like your own unique scent.

Ashleydparsons71980

This smells exactly like the pink Yara to my nose! I sprayed Yara on one wrist and this one on the other and I cannot tell a difference on the dry down. I purchased this at TJ Maxx for like $15 a few years ago. I can't imagine paying any more for it since it doesn't last very long.

maddie2503

This isn't much of a vanilla scent at all in my opinion, I get a slightly coconutty almond. So beautiful, it's like SDJ 62's older sister. I'm sad this was discontinued because this is so delicious. I love this in the winter but I also think it works in the summer as long as it isn't too too hot. The coconut and heliotrope can pull it into summer as long as you don't overspray or maybe cut it with something a little fresher

glowingsand

really nice! it smells like an almost light airy vanilla. it’s different from the LM ambre vanille body crème & hand cream which are a bit nicer imo but it’s still a nice scent and works so well paired with them. lasts a good while too. took it on holiday with me and the girls I was with kept asking to use it lol

Gemsense

And it needs to be like 20 degrees Fahrenheit to smell at its best- FYI- so many ppl judge a fragrance in the wrong season for it. Lots of ppl don’t know that scents change with the weather and the season.

Gemsense

One of the finest gourmands I’ve ever experienced. It was $15 a few years ago and now it’s ridiculously overpriced. I wish there was a perfume oil dupe if this. The heliotrope makes this so fluffy and creamy, not like sugar but a true yummy sweet but not overly sweet fragrance

Isabel13

This would be a good vanilla staple scent if the longevity was better. This is a skin scent unless I overspray and even then I get maybe three hours. If you can get a discount on it, it's good but Yara smells very close and a bit better IMO so I would opt for that. Tbh I wear this to bed because by the time I leave my house for the day, I can barely smell anything. For the 1-2 hours I smell it, its some fruit, maybe pear...amber, vanilla, and some woods.

LEM922

Okay, finally got this today. This is… not what I expected. It smells good! But, a little boring. It definitely does smell like a softer version of the cheirosa 62 spray… which admittedly, is not my favorite. It smells a lot like my pistachio brûlée perfume from le monde gourmande as well. It’s light and pretty, but I’m honestly not sure it’s super worth the hype. I got it on sale for like $40 so I’m definitely not mad about it, but I wouldn’t buy it again, especially not for full price. A good easy reach, but there’s other things out there.

Edit: So, this actually makes a really nice HAIR perfume. It smells so much better that way I’m not sure why! A really clean, soft vanilla smell. I enjoy it this way. This really has grown on me! A good easy reach, it smells best in temperate weather, like spring or fall time. I like it a LOT!

LEM922

This is on sale right now in Laura Mercier’s website, if anyone is interested along with the coconut almond honey bath. I’ll put a review as soon as I get it and smell it. :)

TDSollog

I happily picked this up for $13 at my local Marshall's. It's a nice "vanilla coconut almond milk in a wooden mug" scent. I don't get tangerine. Cozy and welcoming.

Pewbom

This one smells so weird & I don’t get the hype. It’s EDT but the longevity is insane. By the way the amber is too heavy . It’s a heavy perfume I can’t get the vanilla AT ALL . I can’t wear it at alI can’t handle the heavy amber

Mia-Marleen

This stuff is good :) I would say, it is more like a spring-summer vanilla with fresh floral notes. In the same time it has some depth, it's not just your usual basic vanilla. I was afraid, that coconut will be annoying, I usually don't like coconut, but no, it gives to the scent slightly summery feeling. I remember my first sniff in the car, when I opened the package, thinking.. wow, it is as good as some other expensive niche perfumes.
Projection is strong for the first hours, lasting power 4-5 hours.

downtomars13

This is lovely. I was scared before receiving this in the mail that the amber would be too heavy. It's not - it's just right. It just adds depth to the vanilla. This manages to be sweet without verging into food territory. This manages to smell fresh as well with the tangerine. This does smell quite similar to the Brazilian bum bum cream and perfume, but it doesn't smell as caramel-y (this fragrance doesn't have caramel at all but manages to smell a bit like it). I'm very happy with this. I love powdery scents. Make more scents, Laura Mercier!

Scentgirlxo

A friendly correction on Ambre Vanille.
The notes are Tangerine, Tiger Orchid, Almond. Brown Sugar, Vanilla, Amber and Sandalwood.
Hope this helps😊

NouveauDruid

Folks, I keep trying and I just can't make this work. Indeed, the notes listed show no vanilla and no amber. All right. What you do need to know is it still hints of vanilla---a highly synthetic one---and then also, well, doll's heads. There is no interesting Play-Doh hint to go along with the usual doll's head scent. Rather, it's quite sharp and has an odd wood note that's not quite forward enough to make Ambre Vanille interesting. There's a marzipan almond yet it's not gourmand. Instead, it's like the suggestion of something edible. For me, the whole scent is quite strong and long-lasting, unfortunately, because I want it to wear off. Don't blind buy this. It smells fake and overly sweet.

artsymom

Smells SO much like Vanille Abricot by Comptoir Sud Pacifique! Coconut and almond are prominent but so is another fruity note that smells like apricots to me, probably the combination of the top notes. I'd definitely put it in the category of very sweet, vanilla gourmand scents. Good sillage and staying power.

nayscent

This is a perfume that shines best when worn on clean skin. The intense gourmand envelopes like a hug and is incredibly comforting. If there was an accord for biting into the crisp shell of a freshly-baked meringue, the residual warmth of the oven bathing your face in a pale orange glow, this would be it.

That’s this perfume at it’s best. At it’s worst, it can smell quite acrid, like sweet(?) burnt rubber. I’ve only noticed this to happen when I layer this atop another scent (in my case, a scented body cream). I’m guessing some sort of reaction happens that reaaaaally pushes forth a sharp, smoky version of the sandalwood. Together with the other notes, you might smell like potpourri that got set on fire. It’s a burnt, cloying sweetness that leaves me quite headache-y.

Likely won’t repurchase but gladly will finish (if worn right!).

sweet_cherry

I thought this would smell the same as the hand cream, but it is way too light and a bit different.

lmwimsatt

There's no vanilla or amber in the pyramid, and orchids don't smell, so why didn't she just call this almond coconut? Also whenever I smell this, and I'm talking smelling it at Macy's for years and even trying it on, it smells stale. How could all their testers be expired for years?

buster21

Applied this now, hadn’t worn it in several years. Purchased from Macys. I can smell the powdery vanilla note, more complex and interesting than Vanille West Indies. They both are a little too sweet but I will hold onto this over the other.
I just discovered ( completely forgot this) that I have her body creams! I must have bought them at the same time. Can’t wait to layer them with the perfume.

Z1

I have an body cream with the same scent and I liked it sooooo much so I bought this perfume! When I actually smelled it, the two scents are slightly different, but the sillage is almost the same. The perfume feels more citrusy.

elin.s

So I’m NOT a gourmand or vanilla kinda person, but this one is so comforting and cocooning. It reminds me of my childhood.

My sisters and I had a favourite little gift shop near our childhood home that we went to every week. They sold these plastic dolls and little vanilla linnen bags that made the whole store smell of vanilla and plastic. We would look at the dolls, chat and just hang out in the store and the owner was always so nice to us, even if we rarely bought anything.

The first time I tried Ambre Vanille I immediately recognised it: it smelled EXACTLY like that gift shop! It is warm and comforting and after I finish my 3 ml I will absolutely be getting a fb 😊 I don’t think I will wear it super often, but will reach for it every time I need a bit of comforting or when I snuggle up with a blanket in front of a romcom.

MaxieF

This is so well blended. The tangerine is a nice burst of flavor in the beginning and on my skin it disappears rather quickly which I love because you're left with the most comforting, fresh, Tonka Bean and vanilla. It lasts forever and projects beautifully. Some might say it smells "mature" but in my opinion it's not mature at all. It reminds me of illicit and gold couture. It's SO sweet and very powdery. I dont personally find powder "mature" but some people do. I'm in my mid 20s. My boyfriend said it has a hint of "church lady" but I just find that it's just so comforting. And you can find it at marshalls or burlington for $20

laceylovesperfume

This was a blind buy in hopes it would pair nicely with my Brazilian bum bum cream- which everyone says this is perfect for. This was not what I was expecting... it's very synthetic smelling. I was actually asked if I had sprayed potpourri on myself. It's hard to describe but I do not get vanilla in this at all. It smells like burnt chemicals.

MaryamOHS

someone said it smells like bad breath, I get it, it's the amber, just wait for it to settle down and this "bad breath" smell will go away, I don't think it smells bad at all, it's cute, to me it smells like caramel ( almost smoky burnt caramel I'd say) and vanilla with just a little tiny bit of florals, a common combination of notes so don't expect something extraordinary, but still it's a good choice for cold weather, sweet indeed.

Shan101beauty

Smells similar to Brazilian bum bum cream and body spray. Its very sweet and can be cloying at times. I dont know if it is the amber or what, but there is something that makes it smell a bit synthetic

tyeangelina

Reminded me of febreze air freshener and I couldn't get it to wash off. Apparently this brand is inconsistent so I won't be trying any others. So disappointing!

la.femme.scent

I just finished this bottle today and I'm really disappointed I didn't get a back-up bottle on clearance (second markdown) for $6 at Marshall's!
I din't think I'd like it and only got it because of the hype on here, but it really grew on me.
I'd wear it around the home and to bed and it's just a cozy and warm scent and would last for a few hours and it's close to the skin for projection.
Anyway on my skin I'd get mostly vanilla, and it smells just like the good quality vanilla extract I'd use in baking.
And on my clothes, mostly on thick robes, I'd get the loveliest heliotrope note, that smells lightly powdery but sweet and reminds me of compact face powders from when I was younger, I think it was the Mary Kay ones.
Anyway, if I see this again, sale or not I'm getting another one!

Update: (9.27.2021) I miss this fragrance so much :(

lillybethholmes

Yeah... I dunno about this one. There's something a bit cloying and nauseating about it although it's not superduper sweet. There's a distinct play-doh amber in there, which ordinarily I love but it's not landing well on my skin. I think it's the coconut I'm disliking. It's a real back of your nose cheap pina colada coconut. I'm not really even getting much vanilla. I might want to layer this with something brighter and sharper, maybe a citrus before I give up on it, but it's not a win for me. I wanted a 'hug', but I got a bit of a cheap pouch of synthetic cocktail!

April338

Don’t know if I’m crazy but this just doesn’t work on me. It smells like bad breath and odd vanilla. Its sooo strange. Such a disappointment.

AnaMaria97

Very disappointing for me, it's similar to Brazilian Crush but there's something in here that turns sour. I had a similar experience with Laura Mercier's Ambre Passion - I think LM's amber comes off strange

SophieJ

Also a TJMaxx find for me, $7 on clearance! I get the floral part of it at first, it confused me, it didn't smell very gourmand and sweet at all on me. It does fade away after a while and leave a vague coconut and vanilla scent. It does remind me of an air freshener or a candle, but not a super cheap one. Pleasant, I don't reach for it often though. It would work well in any season in my opinion, it's not too sweet to be too sticky and strong in the summer.
Something similar that I like and I DO wear often is Comptior Sud Pacifique Vanille Coco, I believe it's worth the few extra dollars if you can't find this one and you're looking for a sweet vanilla coconut scent

heroine

A delicious amber and vanilla combo. I can’t stop sniffing my hair when I wear this.

GabrielleeeeeW

Blindly bought this at TJ Maxx for $13, it's nice! It's not a super complicated fragrance or anything and is actually quite similar to Pacifica's Sugared Amber (another TJ maxx purchase), except a little less sweet. I just smell the vanilla and amber but I'm a sucker for that combo so this is a good fragrance for me. Nice for bed or lounging around the house, it has a cozier feel. The projection and longevity is pretty nice too, I wore it to bed and woke up 7 hours later and could still smell it. Pretty happy with this purchase!

middle25

It is no wonder everyone is smelling something different when it comes to Laura Mercier's Ambre Vanille. I can't even get the right notes to be able to compare what I smell versus the notes. In addition to the notes here on Fragrantica, this is what a simple google search gave me:

From LauraMercier.com
The quiet sensuality of amber blends with the warmth of vanilla, and is enhanced with fresh notes of tangerine and tiger orchid, the delicious essence of almond and brown sugar, and a final hint of musky sandalwood for a finish that is soft, intimate, and absolutely addictive.

From Base Notes:
Top Notes Tangerine
Heart Notes Tiger orchid, Heliotrope, Almond
Base notes Brown sugar, Coconut, Sandalwood

From Nordstrom's -
Top notes: tangerine, coconut, almond.
Middle notes: tiger orchid, milk flower, heliotrope.
Base notes: amber, vanilla bean, brown sugar, sandalwood.

I blind-bought mine from TJMaxx the other day. The label is white and all I know is this.......On me, I get the orchid and powdery heliotrope in the beginning. Soon, I can smell the start of the coconut. A little almond comes in after that with some vanilla. I have a mix of florals, strong coconut, vanilla, sandalwood, and some musk in the end and for me, this is reminiscent of the beach. It makes me think of what a tropical island vacation would smell like. I get moderate sillage and longevity and think this would be a good scent for year-round but because I don't have many summer perfumes, I think that's when I'll use it the most.

Edited: I did a little more research to make sure I'm not crazy. Yes, orchid is a scent that usually comes across as "spicy, exotic and floral like Tom Ford Black Orchid or Jo Malone Dark Amber & Ginger Lily" (from boisdejasmin.com) and there are scented orchids, grown for their smell in addition to beauty (orchideria.com/orchid-scents/) (orchidsmadeeasy.com/fragrant-orchids/).

Frangipanilove

I don’t understand the listed notes above compared to the actual scent. There is no such smell as ‘orchid’ and even when such an accord is created and listed, its a delicate scent. If you smell an orchid in real life most of them have hardly any scent at all. To my nose this is a pure gourmand, vanilla w a bit of nutty flavour and tiny bit of almondy scent. I don't get any florals or tangerine. It smells like a cookie. A nice cookie. Very one dimensional, does not change just fades a bit over time. Strictly for when you are looking for the comfort moment of a pure gourmand. When I wear this it makes me want to eat sweets. Not a bad scent just a bit dull. By the end of the day ready to wash it away. Boring.

Fraghag7

I smelled an open bottle of this at tjmaxx some weeks ago and liked it but couldn't bring myself to buy it. Weeks later after having a hankering for a vanilla perfume I purchased this, excited to revisit this scent. Sadly this did not smell as I remember at the store. I don't think it's a fake but possibly as the person below me mentioned, a reformulation?
To me this is a 90's vibe synthetic vanilla scent with fake coconut. That's all I smell is a vanilla/coconut air freshener scent. Not good, nauseating. Unfortunately I can't return this so it's a waste of $15 but I don't see too many people enjoying this.

itsallaboutthescents

I was a faithful byer of this one and I have all the line, body cream, hand cream, body wash, scrub and edt.Today , my delivery has just arrived and I am so sad and dissapointed that I have to say Goodbye to my signature scent. You have to know the company has changed, the label is new, the bottle of the perfume and the jar of the body cream are very heavy, the scent is synthetic, the cream does not really smell of anything. Trust me, I Know that, bc I have on my shelf the older formula and I can immediately compare them. Do not bye this, it has nothing to do with old, nice Ambre Vanille and this is not the LM I used to Know , that brought to me so many compliments. Now, I cannot even smell myself. It lasts about 5 minutes, no sillage and the cream, which was the only thing I had to wear and smell it for all day, which was very potent, like an intense edp, dissapears in a few minutes. Don't waste your money, unless you can find the old one, which was warm, sweet, sensual, potent and mesmerizing. Why companies do that? This is a shame for the name of the company. I have to say, even the printed letters are ugly, compared to the old label. I am really, trully sad and its is Christmas.... :(

Kolobochek

It’s a very beautiful and sweet scent. I definitely could smell coconut and sandalwood in it. Even so it is a very sweet perfume, surprisingly it doesn’t give me any headache at all.
The bottle is boring. I think this beautiful perfume deserves a better one.

bourcet

I really love this one. Despite reminding me a lot of Nicki Minaj Pink Friday (which is also a Juicy clone) this does not smell very synthetic to me at all. You can smell the resinous amber paste. To echo the reviewer below me, the vanilla is real, not one of those cloying, plastic doll head accords that you can get from some "sweet" scents. I love the way the heliotrope and vanilla play together, I think it's what gives it this upbeat "young" scent reminiscent of Juicy and Nicki Minaj. The performance of this isn't bad at all. The smell is mostly a personal one but it will project if sprayed on clothes and if the temperature is right.

This scent is a Pendleton blanket, a plush mohair rug, a stick of rock sugar in a mug of chai, a hug from someone you love.

Warmthandlight

I never fully understood the bedtime scent categorization until this fragrance. Like Zoe101 noted below, it’s exactly like a warm hug in a bottle. The vanilla is a true vanilla, not a synthetic/plastic one, and the amber brings that lovely woody warmth. The sillage and longevity are not great, which leads to my reasoning that this is the perfect bedtime scent. Personally, I couldn’t wear a scent too strong or long lasting to bed or it would irritate both me and my partner - so this is perfect! I look forward to the upcoming winter nights, where I can get into my comfy pjs, spray this on, and hop into bed feeling cozy and comforted.

Zoë101

This is lovely. It’s a warm hug in a bottle.

This is a very simple fragrance. So for that reason there’s not much to say. It’s a sweet
vanilla and amber fragrance. That’s all. If you love vanilla and amber, this is an absolute
must. If you love to mix and layer or add sweetness to your other fragrances, this is a
HUGE MUST.

There are no complex notes or anything that develops odd or strange
because it’s an extremely simple fragrance profile. When I want a break from all the
complex notes and va va voom or simply just a cozy lounge around scent, I go for this
one. It’s truly nice and well deserving of its high rating.

AGAIN THIS IS A SIMPLE SWEET COZY SCENT. DO NOT EXPECT COMPLEX LOL

RATING: This gets a very humble 7 out of 10.

Emilee1978

This is a perfect example of a blind-buy blowing up in your face.....Found a bottle and TJ Maxx for $15.99, all the listed notes are ones I like, yet it's just yuck on my skin!!!!!!!! I don't get it. It smells similar to Viva La Juicy Gold Couture to me-which I love and which I subsequently used to try and cover up. There was a sharpness to it that never dried down.....Oh well.........

Jacquis

Very similar to Sol de Janiero SOL Cheirosa but lasts much longer and performs very well. The orchid is present for the first 30 mins then it fades to gourmand vanilla and coconut scent. Very soothing and lovely. Great value.

gardeniapetunia

I paid $16.99 at TJ Maxx today and bought the only bottle. I looked at Marshalls within the past week but didn't hunt long so who knows if they had it.
I've been wearing it all day and like it very much and it may be the cheapest perfume I have ever bought that I really, really liked. I know it's all subjective but I can see myself wearing this and liking it as much as my expensive bottles, which so far hasn't happened. I wear cheaper things, of course, but don't like them as much :-)

Meenah

I tried it on at Marshalls but didn't purchase it. I figured I would see how it set on my skin and buy it later based on the results. I picked up a food order and as I was leaving the woman behind me asked what I was wearing because it smelled amazing. I've since purchased it. Like others have mentioned it's currently on sale at Marshalls and TJmaxx but it's cheaper at Marshalls.

mimircks

TJMaxx has it for less than Marshalls. I've already purchased 2 bottles & plan to purchase some more as I'll be living outside USA for a spell. This is sooo yummy! It's not heavy but a warm, coconutty, vanilla, amber. In that order, but I absolutely LOOOVE this now-inexpensive fragrance! Eau Gourmande Ambre Vanilla is soothing, & brings a smile to my lips as I smell it - like a secret YOU are not privy to. While it doesn't resemble Olympea Intense, it does evoke the same response. For the price, I'll be stocking up!

mapache

Found this today at TJ Maxx...clearance priced.

Yes !! It does resemble Brazilian Crush for sure,IMO.

Margarita Birda

Best vanilla fragrance for everyday use! Inoffensive and not cloying yet sweet and clean at the same time. I also love the body souffle and the shower bath! Lasts pretty good for an EDT!!!

traes

This is a huge no for me, as are all Laura Mercier perfumes. I love everything about her perfumes (packaging, the name, the description) except the scent! It smells to me like she uses a cheap carrier oil, which is perplexing because she's a well established perfumer. But they all smell like something blended by an amateur. Just not good. Im not wasting any more money on Laura Mercier.

ree_ire88

Very nice. This does not project on me, just a nice skin scent. I wear it bed or around the house. The amber and vanilla is yummy.

mnegrona

If you are looking for a vanilla scent, this is not it. This is a coconut fragrance. Why named it ambre vanille when neither one is present?
I like it for what it actually is, although I wanted vanilla.
Eau Gourmande Ambre Vanille is a grown up version of a VS coconut mist. Nice and creamy.
When I layer it with an actual vanilla perfume, the coconut dissipates. Good sillage and longevity on my skin (which is on the drier side).

Mickyscents

I worked for Laura Mercier for almost ten years and was ecstatic when this scent came out. I purchased at least four bottles of this and bought the body butter, wash, and creme to layer. This is my favorite scent from her line and I am so happy I recently found two bottles at Marshall’s for $15! Typically when things start showing up at discount retailers that means it’s being discontinued, but I hope that isn’t the case. If it is, Shiseido has some big shoes to fill when they replace this sweet, warm, sexy scent!

mira_nicole

Random buy from Marshall's ($13) because I wanted to try something gourmand. Too almond heavy for me. I've taken to using the barest amount because it's very strong and lasts a long time. I think overall it's growing on me and if you like almond-vanilla, this is certainly something you'd enjoy.

EDIT:

After a couple of weeks, I've learned to really enjoy this scent!

Itsshaha

I ALWAYS have to repurchase this. It's creamy, warm and soft, and one of the few gourmand fragrances that I can wear all year round (a lot of them are a little harsh on the nose during summer time). I always get complimented by my students when I wear this.

nakedcity

Is my nose broken?! All I smell is tonka bean, this is the upscale version of Joop Le Bain. Seriously, I like it but there’s no orchid or coconut to my nose, just tonka. It layers nicely with incense/woods

Michylaka

Haha! I am another TJ Maxx find person. I love this. It is creamy, sweet and long wearing. Pretty and fun. I am wearing this for Summer nights here In balmy Florida. It is projecting in a good way.

I do get a blast of sweet Citrus at first. It blends nicely with the strong Orchid which here is lovely mixed with the creamy Coconut and powdery Almond. The Heliotrope is here too giving a soft floral that is decidedly feminine. I also love the Sandalwood in the dry down giving this juice a bit of a grounding element.

I do not get any Amber or Vanilla though so that was a bit misleading but that is ok. Ambre Vanilla is a keeper and great find. This should have been named something like Gourmand Orchid Night. This gourmand is multi-faceted and I highly recommend.

Roses and Thyme

I just got mine st TJ MAXX for also
about $15 USD.

I’m in love. Seriously, I cannot remember the last time a single whiff has made me feel so happy just to be able to smell it. A little spice, a lovely vanilla...for a gourmand it really isn’t that sweet. More complex than I was expecting for an edt.

*I have not read any reviews yet but if anyone mentions holiday candles, I can understand that. I’m enjoying it so much.

Prettyprettysunshine

To validate a previous poster, I also found this fragrance at TJMAXX for $15.00. Grabbed it as soon as I saw it. Then did another pass because I needed something else, and got the Crème Brûlée fragrance as well. SCORE!

Both are wonderful fragrances that I can layer to salvage the new Dune formulation.

Cairo Rose

Yummy ...smells good enough to drink...a sweet vanilla/almond combo that makes you keep sniffing your wrist...My daughter bought this and while shopping she kept telling me how great she smelled...I returned an hour later to our local TJMaxx, that just opened, and bought the remaining 2 bottles...$5.00 each for 1.7 oz bottles on clearance! Absolute steal!

Lavandermilk

For me, A sultry snickerdoodle cookie

The opening is a very strong & chemical vanilla
I don't mind really (I love Pink Sugar) & that fades soon enough into a sweet, spicy, slightly woodsy scent.
I do get some orchid but I cannot really detect any fruit elements. Perhaps I will after wearing it more often and becoming better aquainted with it.

Its very comforting. Perfect for the fall time. When I wear it I cant help but think of chunky sweaters, changing leaves, and sitting fireside. Its warm & yummy.

I don't agree with reviews saying its a cloying orchid smell.

I enjoy this scent a lot. Im not head over heels but I am certainly happy. I am hoping to try out more scents in the line thanks to this one.

mtmer

This is one of the better deals in fragrance, right now, if you're taking the Marshall's/TJ Maxx route as mentioned below. The Eau Gourmande line has always come in 1.7 size to my knowledge, and they certainly haven't been sold at the $24 alluded to on the pricetags...always $65, so this $13 is bordering on misprint territory. Like Coconut Almond Milk from LM, I don't enjoy Ambre Vanille right out of the bottle, they are chemically harsh...but both settle with remarkable comfort and class. Since my wife fell in love with the Coconut Almond Milk drydown long ago, we never gave this it's proper chance, and that was a mistake because it is very well done. I would agree that by the middle of the journey, the Vanilla is relenting to some Almond, Amber, and floral aspects, and a pleasant brown (or baked) sugar, which are all just slightly tinged by the faintest smoke mentioned in some other reviews. It is warm, soft, inviting, lasts in a subtle manner, but certainly not much of a projector. If you live in a cooler climate, still time to enjoy this plenty before Spring really kicks in. Been mentioned before, but the accompanying products in this line are absolutely nuclear and very high quality, and I found the sugar scrub for my wife at Marshall's for $20, so would not be surprised if more are on the way.

Interested to see some new fragrances from Laura Mercier in the near future.

Nataliemarie

BLECH! I don't say that very often either! Maybe I am not an Amber girl, not enough Vanilla for me, or too much Amber. It's a light scent, but STUCK to me like glue. Not a fan. I see NO resemblance at ALL to VS Eau So Sexy. HUH? That one smells like a sexy bubblegum on me & I LOVE it!

Kots_Tanya

Went to Marshall’s and TJ Max, and found one left in TJ Max. Haven’t opened it yet. But it was only 12.99. Very excited to have it.
So I tried the scent and it’s quiet cloying Orchid a bit almond, my husband didn’t like it at all, it gets a little better at dry down. But he did say he liked it better than Sentual orchid by LM. They are very similar but they’re not the same. I prefer Sentual orchid ambre vanille, because to me it’s a bit less cloying, a bit more airy.

mmagic_conch

Uhhgg this is amazing. I had to go back and get a second bottle the very next day (TJ max, 1.7 oz for $13.) Vanilla sweetness, but not just plain vanilla. I don’t pick up any coconut, but maybe some almond or snickerdoodle or sugar cookie. It’s dessert in a bottle, but also not. It’s not so sweet you want to eat it. It’s just super sweet “what’s that amazing smell” perfume. If that makes sense. I would say this isn’t nearly as desserty and foody as say, Choco musk. Slightly more grown up and fancy but still gourmand and simple. Delicious vanillaness. I know I’ll probably never find this for as cheap as I just did, so I’ll treasure it and use sparingly.

kayleenanncooke

To me it smells like Victorias secret scandalous. Sickly sweet, but sometimes you're just in the mood for the insane amount of sweet. This is that.

ionantha

This feels like the grown-up version of the vanilla scents I loved in my teenage years. A little woody, a little sweet, gourmand but not sickly strong. I love to wear it on cold winter days when it is a comforting addition to grey skies. I find that it wears better when I spray it on my skin than on my clothes - the notes stay more complex and it seems to last longer on the drydown.

TexasOrangeBlossom

From the Laura Mercier website:
“ Amber. Vanilla. Brown sugar.
The quiet sensuality of amber blends with the warmth of vanilla, and is enhanced with fresh notes of tangerine and tiger orchid, the delicious essence of almond and brown sugar, and a final hint of musky sandalwood for a finish that is soft, intimate and absolutely addictive.”
Somebody needs to update the notes on Fragrantica.
I can smell each of the notes listed on the LM website. I only purchased this yesterday (at TJMaxx for $12.99) so I cannot give a detailed review. It’s a nice addition to my collection. I think it will be great for layering. It strikes me as a more refined Bath and Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar scent with some amber. It’s fairly aggressive in the beginning. The dry down is soft and sensual. Very nice gourmand!

greekbasil

Also this contains heliotrope. Heliotrope oscillates between vanilla and almonds this the vanille

greekbasil

Man here who wears this. It leans feminine but def can be unisex because of the almond more. Not too vanillaeeee. Very guerlainish

lollipopsneeze

They should have named this one "Coconut Macaroon", because it's the olfactory equivalent truly. I love it and daydream now of owning the body creme butter. I've loved every fragrance I've ever had the pleasure to try from Laura Mercier, so happy with my bottle of this.

sibaraa

If this doesn't have any amber, then call me crazy. All im getting is a gourmand amber. It's very nice, but the fact that it's not listed in the notes makes me think they made a huge mistake informing us.

wlmyer2

This on me is powdery almonds! I love it! It smells completely different than the lotion. The lotion is a warm amber, but the perfume has no Amber to it at all! Still a beautiful fragrance with great lasting power!

averyca

I pair this with the lotion, but it doesn't last at all. I actually prefer the lotion to the perfume, it has more body and depth. I don't think I'll buy the perfume again, but I will buy the lotion, for sure!

ghadaalboghdadi

To people who voted this smells like sensual orchid by lm perfumes.
Please confirm, because if so I am buying it blind.

BihterAnneBoleyn

a sweet perfume for people who don't like sweet scents, lasts forever on my skin despite being an eau de toilette.

Ghadeer540

It is ridiculous it’s called Amber vanilla but there is no Amber nor Vanilla but it is absolutely Garmond and nice and sweet the kind of fragrance that you want to smell at at home , I had it for a few days before my friend Toke it from me because she loved it so much I didn’t have the chance to buy it again but I will , try its body lotion traffic

wlkrdj9

On the paper it smells very sweet and gourmand with a tinge of floral, but on my skin it gets much more.. smoky and intense, and I mean in a good way. It smells soooo wonderful on the skin that I can't help sniffing my wrist for like several hours and keep wanting it more!
On my skin it smells like someone's drinking coconut milk and burning amber at a fireplace.. It sounds wierd, but I just wanted to say that this is one of the best scents I have ever experienced. It conveys both warmth and sexiness at the same time. And for the price? Really, it's a must buy for me. Going to get a bottle real soon.

justchillinxo

I’ve definitely smelled it before though I have no idea what it is. I don’t think it is a vanilla amber fragrance though, especially not at first sniff.

rewer

Is it Unisex?

Holli

This is the creamiest, sweetest and coldest gourmand I've tried. I should love it, but it was ultimately unsatisfying to me. It kind of reminds me of a jar of frosting left in the fridge. It's really that thick, rich and cool.

lmwimsatt

Well this sure is a misnomer if there ever was one

cupcake28

Starts out smelling like Brazilian Bum Bum cream for the first 5 minutes, then turns into Nest's Midnight Fleur on my skin. So disappointed.

candyfluff

Very nice I get the top tangerine note swiftly followed by the orchid with a lovely sandalwood and sugar finish. Not at all too sweet for me I think the drydown is quite unusual and sophisticated. Oops forgot to mention the almond and coconut but they are so well blended they just lend a mysterious sweetness to the whole.

Mooniq

A beautiful but sweet scent. On my skin I get Vanilla, Almond & coconut. A bit too sweet for my taste of fragrances.

My new favourite!!!!

I am a huge fan of delicious sweet scents and came across this gem of a fragrance at the Laura Mericer counter recently. In the past I have owned Profumum Roma Vanitas which is beautiful but extremely costly in my opinion. The only scent I feel justifies parting with serious money is pure oud oil but not really spray perfumes. I have also owned and loved Laya by Ne’emah but it is impossible to get hold of it in Europe. As such, I was delighted to come across this alternative. Upon initial spray I said to myself ‘Hmm..how beautiful’ and then went about my business. Whilst I was strolling around the shops, I kept getting a whiff of soft sweet amber floating about me in a cloud of creamy caramel, vanilla and almond. I sense a touch of coconut but not much..enough just to finish off this heavenly composition bringing it to a state of perfection. I then decided to turn back to the store with the Laura Mercier counter to buy the perfume. A few days later I walked into work wearing it where a colleague of mine greeted me and then said ‘Ohh what a lovely perfume I can smell in the air’. Don’t be fooled by the eau gourmand / EDT status of this scent. It works just as well as an EDP and, in fact, much better than other EDP’s I have owned in the past. It lasts for hours on end and the silage is perfect..I would say arm’s length if not more. If sprayed gently it will stay close to the skin but if you spray liberally, as I always do, then you will be noticed. However, you will be noticed in a good way. This scent is so comforting but at the same time very sensual. If you close your eyes and inhale the scent you will feel as though you are floating on a sweet soft cloud heading up towards paradise and happiness. I feel this perfume will lift me up on days when I feel I need to be loved but I also feel it is very alluring in a sensual manner. I can only really describe it in 3 words: feminine, delicious and perfect. I already know this will be a staple in my collection for years to come. It also layers well with other soft fragrances such as white musk, pure amber and vanilla. As we enter Spring with the season of summer approaching, I have found my new signature scent. Hopefully one which will be my new friend for years to come.

Thank you Laura Mercier for this beautiful creation.. I cannot praise you highly enough on this one..

عطر جميل جدا. المؤنث وجميلة. المفضلة الجديدة. أنا أحب ذلك كثيرا

thetruthoflove

Beautiful Eau Gourmande Ambre Vanille!! It's such a lovely, sweet and subtle coconut! Amazingly gentle and delicate, and so easy to wear. You don't feel bombarded as is so often the case with coconut that I'm very wary of any perfume with coconut in it; no, not in this delightful and feminine darling! Soft amber and coconut, that's what it is for me, with a lovely vanilla and almond topping! It's just lovely.

Love it very much. Adore it in fact!!!

mary.ellen.frye

While I love LM's Vanille Gourmand, I detest the Ambre Vanille. It has a strong, very medicinal note that is very unpleasant. Do not recommend!

turtle91

If you want a simple vanilla scent, then this one is for you. While it is pleasant, I'm not a huge fan of this linear scent. It is an EDT but it really feels like a body spray. I can spray tons of this and the smell would be gone after a while.

hippiechick13

When a note finds you.. Always amusing :)

I've got a thing for coconut. But not the coconut prevalent in the majority of fragrances which smells almost like plastic or off sun lotion, at least as perceived by me and on my skin.

Anyway, I gave up on finding one I liked as it seemed elusive or perhaps a note too hard to capture in a perfume. That was until this!

I sampled a few fragrances today in David Jones. I've been after something that I can wear anytime but is neither pedestrian or overblown. Fresh but sweet and feminine. I tried this on and a few minutes later at the Mac counter I could smell a dreamy, delicious coconut. I was shocked. I tried me wrist and it was Mercier. I googled the ingredients after purchasing and yep.. Coconut!! It's exactly the rendition of it that I love.

I thought this would be a strictly Amber and Vanilla star, very simple and straight forward which is nice. But no. It's vanilla with a light dash of an almost caramel Amber woven with coconut. It comes across as incredibly pretty and full and sensual. It's one you just smile to smell and will glue your nose to your wrist. I'm so excited to start wearing this daily.

Ambre Vanille has quickly become my most favorite guilty pleasure. So rich, decadent and shamelessly sweet in the opening and so inviting, warm and delicious on the dry down. AV starts off a super sugary sweet floral vanilla and then as it dries down and becomes less sweet hints of coconut and almond blend in along with the sandalwood - sooo good. Love this.

As June7rose suggested below - if you want to extend the longevity layer the edt with the body cream and it will last for 12+ hours.

june7rose

If you want something that's just plain sweet and delicious, without a ton of complexity, you can't do better than these Laura Mercier eau de toilettes, and while the spray doesn't last, the body creams do. Combine the two, and you can detect it the next morning. I got a giftset of this scent today which is really the only way to do it if you want multiple products but don't want to be out a couple hundred dollars, this is a good time of year to start finding them. I'm craving the plain vanilla, the almond coconut, and the seasonal golden honey musk also. Notes according to their site:

TOP NOTES: Tangerine, Coconut, Almond
MID NOTES: Tiger Orchid, Milk Flower, Heliotrope
BASE NOTES: Amber, Vanilla Beans, Brown Sugar, Sandalwood

LisaMari

I like the scent of the body cream, you can smell cool coconut in that but its not as strong in the actual pefume which I find too cold and soapy, not nice soapy – theres something harsh and off like cardamom ruining the vanilla

margaritatee

At first i thought 'no,no, too easy', but i have come around. There is a place for easy when it is also lovely. I get a sweet blast of tangerine at the opening which quickly settles to a quieter heliotrope-almond buzz that lasts and lasts. The *feeling* of amber and vanilla are here, even tho not pronounced as notes, giving that creamy, biscuitty vibe in the dry down. I get *occasional* whiffs of play-doh thereafter, but not enough to matter. What is really fun is to layer it with something harder edged. I am combining it with Criminal Elements Hearth, which has heat and bitter woodsmoke. This sharpens up the pretty and takes it to a new place.

miss mills

Thanks to the lovely xrayer, I am able to sample this and wear it today. This could've been more aptly named coconut sandalwood, I think! I am not smelling any amber and the vanilla, which isn't listed might just be the heavy coconut that I'm getting.

This is super sweet, coconut and heliotrope dominant and while it is addictive (I keep going in for another sniff!), I'm waiting til the end of the day of a wear to see what lingers. I have tried just now layering one spray with Hypnotic Poison to see what the almond and vanilla brings to the mix, as they have a similar "vibe" but different food notes.

xrayer

At first I thought this would be too sweet for me but after only a few minutes the sweetness is tempered by the orchid and heliotrope. It is a very well done creamy, coconutty vanilla, longevity is about 8 hours and the dry down is beautifully warm and comforting. Maybe not ground breaking but lovely all the same.

butterflyblue

I was buying some make up at Laura Mercier counter at Nordstom. The sales girl smelled so good. I asked her what she was wearing and she showed me this. She said they can't keep it in stock, I bought the last bottle they had.. I feel lucky :)

This is definately a creamy vanilla. Very sensuous.

I didn't think I would like this as much as I do, longenvity has been pretty amazing like 8 + hours.

djuzz.becuzz

Such a cozy and sweet lovely fragrance :)
On my skin it goes on smelling like white chocolate and dries down like warm, coconut flavoured milk.
It lingers close to the skin, but I keep getting whiffs of this for many hours. Just when I think it's gone it reminds me it's still there.
♥♥♥♥

Tanyaoxo

Very sweet sugary tangerine on me! Reminds me of a grown up version of Katy Perry's Meow. I love it! Sweet and gourmand with the fruit still there, a very warm gourmand with a grown up feel IMO. Settles down into a lovely rich sandalwood. A new favourite for sure! Next on the list is the body creme! <3

StellaDiverFlynn

I get a lot of tangerine and berries from the opening of Laura Mercier Ambre Vanillé. These fruity notes did make me think of Thierry Mugler Innocent and Viva La Juicy a little. These fruits are not the juicy fresh type, but candy flavor like, and they are quite strong and persistent. For the first two hours, the fruits are in the front, while a powdery blend of orchid, vanilla and coconut lays undertone. Later on, the fruits slowly mellows into the sandalwood base, but still remains detectable.

The sillage is moderate and the longevity is at least 8 hours. For me, this is a very playful gourmand fragrance. Towards the drydown, it also has a comforting facet. At the same time, it's quite sweet and sugary. However, I don't find it particularly an amber scent. I'd recommend it as a youthful and fun fruity vanilla fragrance.

pravda48

Almost entirely a syrupy vanilla orchid sugar concoction and coconut flake. Like twang of tangerine in the back but really, this is a creamy, syrupy thick sweet orchid scent above all else.

It's pleasant but I already have 2 really gourmand orchid scents. (Madonna's Truth or Dare Naked is a good cheaper alternative!) No FB for me but have worn and enjoyed it several times when craving melt-your-teeth sweetness.

zant

It starts off a little too food-y for my tastes, kind of like the smell of a cupcake bakery. But after 2-3 hours, it turns into this amazing, warm, skin with sandalwood and amber sort of scent with a bit of vanilla. I'm surprised to see neither amber nor vanilla in the notes list, but I definitely get them from this perfume. I would prefer for it to smell the way it does after 2-3 hours all the time, but as it is, Ambre Vanille is not too shabby!

Edit 3/2014: After wearing it more often, I'm noticing that my perception of the notes varies. Some days I pick up on distinctly floral and fruity notes (as well as pure sugar), and some days it's strictly a vanilla/amber/sandalwood to my nose. Either way, it's delightful and surprisingly long-lasting, but definitely one to test out several times before making a decision.

sophiealbarn

As I am crazy for amber and vanilla, I was expecting to love this scent. I purchased a sample of it and it is not at all what I expected. I don't get vanilla or amber, at all. It is a bit pungent, strong, certainly not for everyone, but not wholly unpleasant. It is a very distinct scent, which I cannot put my finger on, and one that I would guess would be quite divisive.

Dittnergirl

Am I the only one confused by the disparity between the name and the notes of this perfume? First, there is no vanilla listed. Second, there is no amber listed. This is a soft slightly sweet powdery floral confection with a creamy sandalwood base. The orchid plays up strong and the coconut/sandalwood give it a sweet undertone, but don't judge this book by its cover - this is no vanilla amber!

ranchorita

Intensely sweet with very strong orchid. I normally like very strong scents in the Oriental spicy, woody or floral vein, but this was simply too overpowering for me. Maybe it's the vanilla or the combination of accords, but I can't wear this, and I wish it were otherwise.

If you like 3-dimensional vanilla, this one is for you.

dannysmom

I'm so glad to see this has been added to the database. I bought this scent as soon as it came out, after falling in love with the body butter.

First, I'll say that it smells exactly like the body souffle. Not a complex fragrance, but very warm and delicious. The name describes it completely- vanilla and amber. Perfect for cooler weather. Sillage and longevity are good too. Laura Mercier does gourmands well, and this is one of my favorites in her collection.
