it's so beautiful, the fig and bergamot! but so strong at first sniff. I'm torn on this one because I love the smell so much but if I smell it too much it gives me a headache

meama

aromatic figue on a lot of white musk...very simple and commercial (except the price) but very pleasant. no one would talk about it if it was sold in a supermarket but people need to be reassured when they have spent this amount of money on flavored alcohol.

coconutbeth

So beautiful. So complex. Just the perfect tea scent. This is feminine, flirty, put together. This will make you feel like a beautiful woman. I love it so much that I haven't been able to purchase another tea scent. It just holds the number one spot in that category for me. Every time I put this on I get compliments from men and women and my husband LOVES it. It's so versatile making it the perfect date day or night scent. It's just LOVELY. I would wear this to work, a date, anywhere. There is nothing overpowering or offensive about this fragrance. So perfectly blended!

salaryman

I don’t think I’ve ever tried a fragrance with a fig note before so I wasn’t sure what to expect and if I’d even like it, especially seeing it combined with tobacco and hay. I thought it would be really strong, maybe even overwhelming, but all these notes come together and blend into a pleasant tea-like scent. The best way I’d describe Noir 29 is mature and comforting. It’s definitely something that fits my personal style, and I can see why it’s so popular!

The Sillage is moderate at the beginning but quickly changes to sitting close to the skin. As certain notes fade away quicker than others the scent transforms into something more sour-y but not necessarily offensive. The longevity is long-lasting but for half of those hours the only thing you really smell is musk.

This is the first one out of my set of testers that I’m wearing so I don’t know if I’ll buy a full bottle of this one just yet, but it’s definitely a strong opener!

ame87

I don't know where to start with this one, when I smelled this at the shop, it was love at first sight, it was truly intoxicating, kept thinking about it everyday and put my intention on buying a 100 ml bottle after a month, a month passes and I buy the bottle, unfortunately, it barely lasts on me, the sillage is so intimate, even though I've seen already the reviews and it didn't seem that the performance was this bad, and I've smelled this perfume on others and it was amazing, so I assumed the sillage wasn't, boy was a I wrong, I am not sure whether it's my particular bottle or batch, I tried contacting customer service but they said they cannot do anything because I bought it from a third party authorised reseller, very disappointed, buy a 10ml decant before going for the whole thing. Im still so in love with the scent tho, I wish there would be some clone outperforming the original.
Won't buy this again unless they fix the longevity and sillage somehow

ManicMonkey84

The best way I can describe this is black tea that comes across as both bright and a little dirty. There is a dry, incensey bitterness at the heart of the scent, but it's sheathed in a citric "juiciness" coming from the bergamot note. For me, the citrus and vetiver step forward more than the fig and tobacco, especially in the dry-down. It's a fairly gentle and flexible fragrance overall, probaly more suitable for warmer days when the sun is out. It stays pretty close to the skin, but doesn't really dissipate for a good 6+ hours on me. I understand people's gripe with Le Labo's inflated prices, but IMO The Noir 29 makes one of the better cases for its retail value.

Selling my bottle I got last week. Brand new, 100ml, only 10 sprays used, open for negotiations.

Reason for selling: It was a rushed buy, simply not my style and turns sour on my skin.

Adox

Beautiful fig scent with the tobacco hay base adding interest.

Lasts a long time on me and the best I’ve smelled from the house.

vipariously

Sour. So sour. Terrible.

KLynette13

Smells good, very unique. Doesn't last long at all. I'm glad I only got a sample and didnt waste money.

vladravenstein

nice figgy scent but it's not a soft fig though. tea is overly prominent, would have been a great every day if made softer.

SimpleButch

For some reason, on my skin it smells completely flowery and feminine. Strong. Not for me, and certainly not for this price.

LadyDionysius

I tested this years ago (perhaps 2019) and thought it was quite nice, though nothing special. Then over the years, the hype blew up and while I could see its appeal, I wondered what everyone was going wild over.

Flash forward to this morning. My sister gave me a bunch of samples and I felt like wearing something generic while WFH so I gave myself a spritz...Holy heck! I'm transported right back to university at Stellenbosch, a summer afternoon, bag full of books and hanging out at the bar after lectures. And I've been floating in a happy little cloud since.

Without stating the obvious note profile (tea, underscored with fresh figs and balanced with dry hay) it brings to my mind sun-washed fields, which although summery, I can see it suiting any season. It's smart without being austere. Casual without sloppy. Pretty without being feminine. Just elegant, timeless and beautiful. Very signature-worthy.

I wonder what I wasn't going wild over.

theblondegourmand

very rosy and a bit mature. like thé matcha, i do not smell any tea :/

koxayous

my biggest love - tea in fragrances!
that being said, this one is a very "le labo" interpretation of a black tea and im here for it.

the opening is a rich spicy citrusy black tea with a sharp green cedar and bay leaf (very smooth execution of the latter btw). and once the tea goes away it changes into a stylish herbal woody base (think of a very quiet and slightly greener diptyque's lombre dans leau) very meditative, calm and clean.

although definitely androgynous from the start, in the drydown it leans rather masculine

Vickalicious

I get a ton of cedar in this. It starts out smelling a bit like a hamster cage filled with cedar/wood chips. I then get some spices. I don't dislike this--in fact, I think I'd enjoy it quite a bit on someone else, but not myself.

barcelonaboi10

Starts off as a smokey (but not over the top) black tea scent and dries down a bit lighter with more crisp citrus elements. The hay component is really interesting and I have to give credit for this being one of the more unique scents in their collection.

Chloerose666

This is a tricky one. The longevity sucks again for the price, I hated it the first time i smelled it. The second time i did appreciate it more and i liked the aromatic tea and fig vibes, i did get a couple of compliments whilst wearing but i think is more masculine and also more suited to a candle or something. my first note review on my phone just says 'its like a way less offensive TF tuscan leather' lol

I did seem to have a different opinion every time I tried it though sooo I guess its one of those that i cant really make up my mind about.

edited - further consolidated on the fourth wear, enjoyed it on a grim spring day. aromatic tea vibes, quite strong and sharp - almost pungent but in a good way

KittyDeBeauvoir

Good Lord, this stuff is divine.

I have no business liking this: With all its woody, herbaceous, dry, sharp scent all up in my face.
I would have been fine avoiding this, but some glorious creature I worked with breezed into the workplace with this on, and I couldn't help but harass her about it. She kept wearing each time we worked together, and - damn it all - it was spectacular.
So, I assumed it would only work on her. All that unisex-leaning and individual skin chemistry, I thought I'd be safe.
Until I bought my own sample.

Now I have a (dupe) bottle and I spray it with wild abandon (coz I can't live among fragrance any other way).

I can't even explain why it smells good. Usually I hate strong herbaceous scents, but - this does things to me. It smells amazing on clothes - Them little molecules love fabric.

Cons, my Perfumites, include the following:
- Too expensive (I don't abide by the whole "But it's worth it" mentality; $AUD395/50ml and $AUD546/100ml for any perfume is despicable)
- Leans WILDLY masculine-dressed-up-as-unisex
- Maybe could use greater longevity?

Kitty rating: 9/10.

~Compliment Counter~: 1 compliment: "Gosh, your perfume is so nice. I smelled it the entire time I've followed you"(Not as creepy as it sounds)

stakasaki

I'm with the masses on this one - this scent is beautiful. I was initially disappointed at the lack of the eponymous black tea, but the delicious fig, incense, and cedar makes this one of my fave frags of all time. Wonderful projection and longevity as well.
My friend recently noted that the dry down is very similar to Pomegranate Noir by Jo Malone, which I can't believe I didn't notice sooner. But either way I'm not complaining because Pom Noir is a stunner as well.

jj000777

This was my first “expensive” perfume purchase from 2016. It lives in the fridge and is a rare wear as I lean towards fesher musks these days - but I love it.

Overall: Dominating, spicy, cooling.

It opens round and sour - like rice vinegar. There is a resinous cooling effect to the initial drydown. I get a little motor oil.

As it shifts - dried fig and incense, spice. A little soapiness.

At the end of the day- dusty, resinous wood, ozonic, cool leaves and soap. I can see how this might remind of Lapsang tea.

What sets it apart: still get a clean freshness from it. Its smokey and resinous without being heavy or leathery.

daffodilsandcoffee

Didn't like this at first but it grew on me. Sometimes I get more of a rosy quality, other times more of a spicy freshness. Either way, it's addictive. Layer this over the Byredo Mojave Ghost body lotion. Thank me later.

Farangismua

Love at first sight. One of the hotels I stopped at had this shower gel and I just loved the smell. Getting a bottle

jckl

A work of art - absolutely love this fragrance and has suddenly become my go-to

Sweet through the fig but not enough to be sickening, smoky & sophisticated with the black tea note, and dries down gorgeously on my skin (similar to the out-of-bottle scent). Personally, feel this leans a tiny bit masculine and a little towards colder weather, but brilliantly androgynous, mass-pleasing, and lasts all-day, even longer on clothes, scarves etc.

Would also recommend trying a sample on skin, without comparing to other fragrances (difficult when sampling store, I know), as I originally hated the smokiness of this compared to Another 13 & other of Le Labo's popular sellers.

einkill

with more longevity, this would be an ideal spring and summer scent of mine. it's androgynous and cozy, but not suffocating. it's dark and soft. it brought to life a scene with 木漏れ日 (komorebi), sitting under trees with books, paper and fountain pens, with sunlight dancing through the leaves and branches above. it reminds me of a cool breeze on quiet, warm, summer nights. or, walking through a forest as it is nearly dried after heavy rain.

however... the aforementioned scenes wouldn't last long. beyond 20 minutes, i could smell little to nothing of Noir 29 left on me, like others have noted. not being a fan of gourmands and thus, fig notes, i wore this on days where i wanted whatever short time i could get with the vetiver and tobacco leaf notes. though the initial fig was too sweet, it slowly harmonised with the tobacco leaf and vetiver, when i could smell it. at it's dry down, the black tea notes are just barely hanging off my skin, and it's as if the fig and tobacco leaf were the only anchors for the black tea to be detectable. though, i really have to sit and sniff my arm for a minute to notice how the notes have settled.

what took me by surprise was when my laboratory partner asked what i was wearing after 4 hours in lab, where her workstation was not quite close to me. hearing that she could smell it the entire time, was confusing. what she could smell, i couldn't. the black tea notes are just barely distinguishable from my skin. i'm not sure if this changes anything besides my sticking to 2-3 sprays. i might try using this as a hair scent to use up the sample.

in the end, Noir 29 is like a cigarettes after sex song. atmospheric, androgynous, cozy, warm and dark, but with the feeling of there being something missing. so long as it's there, i'll come back to it. even if i'm not fully satiated by it; it's nice to just be adorned by it's existence, short as it may be.

Dark academia

blushings

Jammy red wine dried down in the glass, mint, pencil shavings, squeeze of lemon in a cup of oolong tea, dry hay, loose tobacco. Chic disarray on a the kitchen table in a French apartment. Worldly but bright. Effortless mature allure.

dissolver

This is not heavy on me at all - we are having an uncannily warm winter here and I have continued to reach for it as an early spring scent, when my fall/winter ones feel too intense but it is still too damp and grim for summer. The tea keeps it light and elevated, but it is also earthy and sweet and cozy without being cloying.

sidesalad

This is the absolute pinnacle of a decadent celebratory scent. So obnoxiously deep and dark and glamorous. When I first sprayed it I was mortified by taking up so much space and being perceived by others; a few years later I knew I could embrase this power.
I was unexpectedly given a perfume voucher by my workplace, not realising how quietly essential I was, and heart startingly having others pick up on the frangrace obsession. Buying The Noir 29 with it was the only appropriate answer.

Feuerzeug

Reminds me of montale aoud night. Not the same scent profile in any case but the same stuffy, dusty old cupboard. Based on the notes I was sure I’d love it. Too sad 😩

Zegnaa94

Dark, smoky, sweet fragrance. I get the black tea note.
Tobacco/Hay dry down is lovely.
Love at first sniff.
Such a beautiful fragrance. Get 12h longevity easily.

katsof

Personally, I love this. Sweet, black tea with a hint of greenness. I think it's best suited for fall. Sadly, when I wear this, I can't smell it myself, even with 1 spray, but - everyone in a miles radius absolutely can.

First time i wore this, I sprayed 1 single spray from a tester, and then 20 minutes later I was in another store.. The lady working there said it smelled so good and asked me what it was! I was surprised she could smell it at all, as she was nowhere near me.

However.. I made the mistake of wearing it to uni one day... My class mates complained after class how hot the room was.. "And it smelled like a sauna too".. I knew it had to be me, because I had noticed no such thing... Must have been the "hay" note ...

Commander3778

I see why it's black tea. I can definitely imagine drinking black tea with lemon, or jasmine black tea and smelling this same scent. The opening to this honestly feels suffocating, but as it dries down and develops, I catch roses and vetiver. Definitely a winter scent, I would never even think of using this during the summer. Barely and fig detected and I don't appreciate the hay note. What is this? A stable?

Would not reach out to this unless I know I'm going out somewhere with a lot of wind, so I can breathe. Would not wear this in a car, would not wear this at home. It's an okay scent but you have to pick its time very specifically, I don't think it's a safe blind buy. 4/10

jndrfq

I can't believe there is no rose in this! pretty, mass pleasing scent.

tilly222

To me, this is actually the perfect fragrance. It’s clean, sweet and sort of smoky all at the same time. There is a beautiful black tea note, the fig adds delicious sweetness, and the tobacco/hay adds smokiness, without smelling like an ashtray. One of my all time favourite fragrances.

Naoelyse

Sexy, bold and "cool". I love this fragrance on a summer day. To my nose the bay leaf and tobacco notes are very noticeable. I also pick up on a clear rose note... It's interesting that "woody" is listed as the prominent accord on here, I definitely experience it as more of a tea frag than a woody one. The complexity of this fragrance is stunning and I haven't smelled anything like it. I think it's truly unisex- both my boyfriend and I wear it.

Crazylovesyou

This is an absolute classic and demonstrates the art of perfumery. It’s a unique fragrance that is utterly unisex, mysterious, and instantly recognisable. It has an otherworldly quality that somehow makes the wearer seem interesting and cool, bohemian and edgy.

Superb.

TWN2RBO

Beautiful dark fig fragrance. Drydown gets better and better too. Stays a fig fragrance with some tobacco and rose / musk nuances to keep it dark and sexy. Will be getting a full bottle since the dry down on skin maintained such power and strength. Beautiful scent!

Ojiua

Headache inducing and cloying. Smells like someone tried to cover their drinking habit with rose spray. Boozy and unpleasant. This one is not for me unfortunately. All the good reviews had me excited but that’s life!

monamushroom

It is a fresh, dry fig at first, and I smell dandelions. Later on I get some kind of rose even tough it is not listed? I see now that other also have commented on this, and it makes a lot of sense. I love the hay in the drydown tho! On my skin it feels like how I imagine the style boho chick smells like. Sometimes I get the tobacco note as well and it is lovely and complex and gives a great depht to the scent. The hay and the tobacco is what makes this bearable for me, and gives that oump to the green-ness. But my god this is so strong and it dominates almost the entire house if I spray more than two spritz. Be careful, but more importantly, enjoy!

This is a pretty heavy fragrance, it is strong and with an enormous sillage. I feel like I can’t wear it a lot of the time because of that big cloud that follows you around, or maybe it’s because I’m not confident enough for it?

HeatherNS

I just realized I have never left a review of this fragrance. This is one of those scents that really made me appreciate the art of perfumery. I bought 5 little tiny samples from Le Labo when I first started collecting perfumes, and I only had maybe like 6 full bottles at that time (about 4 years ago).

When I first smelled this, I got emotional, almost like it had an atmospheric vibe to it. It's not as simple as "oh that smells nice", it is literally a work of art. It smells like an enchanted, damp, cool and crisp forest.

I am wearing this today, but I decided to try to mix it with a sweeter vanilla scent. I layered it with Mix Bar's Vanilla Bourbon, which is a rich smokey vanilla, which goes well with the The Noir 29.

HeatherNS

@jndrfq There actually is rose in this, you will see that if you go to the Le Labo website. I guess fragrantica just decided to leave rose out of the notes for some reason.

jndrfq

The Fig note has completely bamboozled me. it is so good and intoxicating. It's hard to believe that there is no rose in this one. Impressive projection and lasting. however, the scent is linear and doesn't change at all. a mass pleasing magical juice.
I just wish it has some more depth with things like oakmoss and musk. But it probably is targeted to be a general public nice scent.

Zig von Katz

Should be called Fig 29, I do not get black tea out of this at all. It smells nice, but it is too sweet to match me and my personality. Probably performed the best on my skin out of all the Le Labo perfumes I've sampled, my skin seems to eat them right up though.

smelling.sniffing.swan

Initially I get spicy citrus.
Citrus done in a deep, dark way. Not the usual light and airy citrus.
The base in this is really centre stage.
Heavy woodiness, vetiver and tobacco.

There's something in here that's not sitting great on me.
I can't quite put my finger on what it is; but, it's a thick, botanical/herbaceous, slightly medicinal ointment.
It's not bad; I'm just getting a really thick wall of it. Which i'm finding overpowering.

Luckily as it dries down, some of those more confrontational initial notes subside.
Making way for a stale, musky tobacco.

VERDICT:
I would appreciate this more on others, not on myself.

Bob Vog

There is something rich and deep with this fragrance that I don't see in most of the commercial big brand scents that I have tried. I don't know if it is the use of high quality natural materials, or the way it's put together, but I find this to be a very satisfying concoction. I would recommend you buy it if you can afford it.

ausi

Contains the bitter and smoky qualities of black tea leaves with the lift of bergamot and fig, rounded out with a smooth musk. On the top edge there's a slightly sour bite from the citrus that adds a really interesting dimension. One of the most addicting dry downs I've come across with a balance of tobacco, tea, and musk. Not dry and dark like a woody scent, more of an herbal cedar accord. Amazing fragrance.

Ahmet Reis

I never thought fig would smells that good.

dvinshultz

It's alright. Overhyped in my opinion due to the strong hay note on my skin, but longevity and projection are there. Fig is a little prominent in the opening but I find it disappears after 10 minutes.

4/10

bouchardo

Dried roses and moldy citruses

ali_minaj

smells like Tobacco with Honey

granthahahaha

I first found this perfume through Caio, and like him, the noir is seductive and maybe a little mischievous. I find the fragrance heady and strong, and the woody and spicy notes are my thing.

Phylira

The ultimate “cool girl” scent… you see her in an expensive ass hotel and you just want to be her. She’s the IT girl. The Serena Van Der Woodsen. Ugh. I bought a bottle soooo fast. My whole family was flipping out over this one, and they hardly ever comment

fragrancefee

This is a beautiful fragrance. That's all I can say.

teatrodellamore

this is catnip to me. just got a 15ml and, unfortunately for my bank account, I know I will be needing a full bottle. opens beautifully boozy and spicy and dries down subtle, warm, and sharp. the hay note is perfectly executed.

Spadaccini

Ok, this is one of those perfumes lads that will be a staple in your arsenal. Its powerful in every sense! It ticks all the boxes. Yes it is worth the price tag. Yes I get compliments all the time. Yes it lives on your skin and clothes. Yes it is for work and leisure. Yes it's for all seasons.
Woody, greenish, tea and manly! It's a hit lads!

smellimelk

not horsegirl, but equestrian. it’s the white florals around the oxer, it's the hay in the stalls. a musty black tea, and yet, a biting fall air. very clean, giving spotless mahogany leather saddle. (english, obvs) the girl with the shiny hair in a crisp white shirt+blazer; is it ~mateur~ or just expensive? is it classy or just … class warfare?

jdb_

Holy wow this is good. I immediately felt it was in its own league. It makes me think of a wild night camping- the fire has nearly burned out and only little embers flicker. Perhaps it’s barely dawn, the grass is wet, and the birds are gently calling to each other. Sweet fig peaks through cool grey air as you roll a fresh cigarette, a mug of black tea steams atop a tree stump. Content and hazy, you sit with nature replaying the shenanigans from the night before. It’s very earthy. Very sexy. A bit hedonistic. Any gender can pull this off with the right energy. I’ve been avoiding Le Labo because of the price tag, but this does smell like it’s composed of the finest oils.

I will say I go nose blind to this and that is not common for me. Just a heads up if you think it’s losing power fast, ask a friend if they can smell it.

peej

Thé Noir is drop dead gorgeous. Every stage of it is intoxicating. At the top, I get mostly a dry herby scent, the most beautiful blend of tobacco and tea leaves. There's also a slight sweetness/fruitiness to it that reminds me of those super soft gummy candies you can only get in Japan. Once it starts to wear down, I love the cozy, soft spicy scent it turns into. I think this is the ultimate date night fragrance.

mistaspritz

Overall I am not the biggest fan of Le Labo fragrances. Personally for me this is not worth purchasing a bottle of but I really enjoy smelling it and smelling it on other people. It has a Wonderfull tea note and to my nose a very nice fresh rose as well. A scent for all occasions and all seasons with very good performance. Very unisex as well, probably the only one I find worth purchasing from Le Labo.

Scratch & Sniff

I wanted to love this. Really, I did. Fig, bay leaf, tobacco and tea are some of my favorite notes, so naturally this should be a winner, right? Well, as it turns out, not exactly. All those notes bastardize together so that my favorite scents become unrecognizable and transform The Noir 29 into something else entirely.

Upon first spray, it smells like pine and Christmas. So much so that I can’t imagine wearing this anytime other than winter – as if standing in a California forest of snow-covered cedar pine trees. That holiday-hand-soap-scent remains pleasant but mildly cloying for hours, until the dry down modifies into a rotten aftershave scent that you want to scrub off immediately.

In five words or less: Christmas present turned coal lump.

wtjetje

First hour smells like plunging your nose deep into a fresh rose. Very realistic, slightly sweet and green. Beautiful! Then after an hour, develops into chrysanthemum tea. If any of you are Chinese or have been to yum cha and ordered chrysanthemum tea, you will know what this smells like. In the background are herbal and woody notes but it's mostly chrysanthemum tea. Dry grassy, probably coming from the hay and bay leaf. Absolutely adore this fragrance. Just wish it was less expensive

TupacAmaruShakur

I blind bought the mini bottle 15 ml, been trying it out for 2 days now.....and I just can't wear it. The scent reminds me of rotten fruits, it makes my stomach turn. Luckily I didn't buy the large bottle.

ameda

Very pleasant, versatile, and far less ubiquitous than other Le Labo crowd pleasers. Reminds me of a fine red wine - tannic and spicy, with little fruit or sourness on the nose. I can't find anything objectionable in TN29, unless one doesn't care for dark tea and rose notes at all. Performance is good, but not great for a niche edp. The excellent Dossier clone, a bit more fresh/less powdery, performs far better, with both greater projection and staying power. A layering partner with strong rose, wood, and/or spice notes adds richness for cold weather wear - I like Gucci Voice of the Snake or Ajmal Amber Poivre.

ilovecabbage

Smells like Tom Ford's Noir de Noir without the rose note mixed in with Jo Malone's Wood Sage and Sea Salt

dannyhiro

An absolute love

LyannaK

Beautiful, gentle, comforting, vintage, tea smell that reminds me of sweet, aromatic black tea with honied toast on a cozy fall day. There is something nostalgic about this, but in an elegant, refined way that I absolutely adore and can't stop smelling my wrists. There is a sweet, tobacco smell after it dries down that is also comforting to me, but it is still fresh and cheerful. It's gorgeous.

tropic0

Sharp and sour, it makes my stomach turn..strangely. I also think it lacks personality, it just smells like sour fig?

The Wolf

Noir 29 is a rich, luxe, beautiful fragrance that has the best tea note I've ever smelled in my life, and I generally hate tea. The herbs, cedar, musk, hay, slight sweetness, and tobacco perfectly compliment the black tea note. Posh and stout fragrance with good performance, that smells like pure class. It feels substantial like the vibe of a patch or leather fragrance, but without those notes. The color really does feel Noir and if I didn't see the color of the juice, I'd expect it to be dark black.

Extremely versatile, it feels at home formal, casual, day or night. I prefer it as a night out scent. I've only come across one other fragrance which is Murdock Black Tea the that smells like this. The Murdock is like a more diffusive cologne version of this one, that's got that same wonderful black tea note.

-------------------------------------------
Appealing to casual fragrance fans and niche aficionados alike. Smells deep, dark, expensive, and compliment factor is there if that's something you care about. This should be everyone's list to try and is bottle worthy IMO.

Immediately I was transported to my dad’s cigar boxes which, once emptied, were used to store my art supplies as a child. Smells of pencil shavings, ink, and of course, the cigars themselves. What a surprisingly nostalgic, dry, distinct impression. I consider Thé Noir a clean, intriguing tobacco scent more than anything, of course I have my own deep-rooted associations to which this can be attributed. Calm, quiet, contemplative, clean in the same way as a wash in the ocean at night. The water is gentle, but one can’t help but feel cautious. I so love this subtle dissonance.

Fig is present and pronounced at first, then settles into a soft and, for my tastes necessary sweetness in the background. I definitely get the tobacco, bay leaf, cedar, and hay the whole ride. One to two sprays is enough to be noticed for about 4 hours.

This perfume really does smell like tea (without any of the sharp tannins). Like fresh, high-quality black tea strands in a niche tea store. It has a cold, floral vibe and smells super clean. As it moves towards the dry down, it gets a bit 'warmer' and smokier.

What I would imagine a sophisticated 25+ year old intellectual would wear while studying in a library; or a demure, professional analyst would wear to the office. It's quite a stunning scent, although I can't decide if I'd prefer I or my house smell like this.

secretsfromagirl

I love this perfume! It definitely needs time to develop but once it does it smells amazing, almost intoxicating.. I wear it at night and special occasions

its me in a bottle. my favorite, most beloved scent, and ive never owned a bottle yet. ive probably gone through over 15 testers of this over the years, but i know this is the one. green but its not, it seems just figgy and simple on first spray but i can smell the layers, no sweetness but this lovely aromatic undertone that complements the idea of black tea leaves. it is reliable, it does not develop for me, it smells exactly the same out of the bottle as it does hours later. on the noir days i wear my turtle necks so that i can pull them up over my nose and inhale. purchasing this will be like a rite of passage for me, and i will be buying the biggest bottle.

dannyhiro

Goddamn that is so magical! First time I smelled this at Ingrediets store in Prague, really cozy, earm and aromatic smell. Wanted to get this but ended up buying Another 13 for being light comforting and making me smile. Got a sample of The Noir anyways and as the days passed I kept going to the sample bottle to smell it again. Its been few weeks now and I love it. It just hits Winter cold outside -5 Celsius and when I put this on it is so freaking incredible.

Edit; somebody told me this smells like a beeswax and i cannot unsmell it rn

I first smelled this fragrance during my first winter in NYC in 2015 or '16-- coldest weather I've ever experienced in my life. I felt a warm tickle in my tummy on the first sniff and purchased immediately and wore it for the rest of the season, into the spring (in the PNW). I went on a date wearing it; he kept his face in my neck for most of night, marveling at how he couldn't get enough. I do find this scent simultaneously quite dark, sexy and bright, clean. It's easily appropriate for the office, if lightly applied, but also for an intimate night out in cooler weather. This smells exactly like an empty tea cup once full of Mariage Frères Russie Thé des Tsar with cream and honey. I used to be obsessed with drinking this tea specifically because of the wonderful "dry down" in the cup after I'd enjoyed it. It's still one of my favourites.

Though I do get the fig note, the tabac note feels more prominent to me, with the fruit acting as a sweetener without going fruity or sugary.

Sadly, I've only had one perfect bottle of this. Ever since that first time, now some eight years ago, every bottle I've ever purchased thereafter smells very off, cloyingly sweet and salty. I don't know if my chemistry changed, or if my taste changed, or if the formula did, but I'll always think fondly of my first bottle of Thé Noir.

rubycathryn

Surprisingly realistic tea scent, only beat out by Chasing Scent's Tea Service (the perennial winner in the tea category). Nicely bitter and juicy, fresh without any astringency. I don't pull any fig from this, and find it much more gentle than other reviewers. Unisex, the perfect pairing for a crisp white oxford shirt and a vintage women's watch. Great office scent, feels like I have my big girl pants on.

Jadewihongi

The combination of strong jammy sweet fig, bay leaf and cedar is not to my taste. It all feels a bit too heavy-handed and cloying.

If heavy is your thing, there’s no doubting the vibe is immaculate. It feels like an abstract representation of Christmas, like pine trees, mince pies, cool winter air and mulled wine, all packed into one.

EDIT: I've since tried Matcha 26 by Le Labo and the softer handling of the fig and woods is much more up my alley.

Hojubaby

I usually hate fig but this one is really nice, its like a dark sensual powdery, dusty scent. Very sexy imo. Totally unisex, it's actually genderless... Very nice and unique scent.
9/10
Note: on the very late dry down this kind of reminds me of Kilian's Straight to heaven

~newgirlsmell~

smells like nothing else

wear this to a museum

IamdrinkingBeer

A brilliant composition, here all the notes basically create the black tea accord, even tho there is no tea note in it. Smells unique and very wearable. It has this fruity sweetness, but not too much. Great one from Le Labo.

rinapch

Really wanted this to smell like a rich black leaf tea, but to me it's just overly sweet. I mostly smell fig and honey, tea is more in a background and not distinct. I also didn't really feel the woody accent that is supposed to be prevalent
I guess it can be a good fragrance if you are searching for something moderately sweet, but not for a realistic black tea smell

Sofiet

Smelled it on a friend once and I couldn’t get it out of my head for a year until I finally got my hands on one. I was always a vanille scent type of a girl but this fragrance changed me completely. This has such a beautiful depth, freshness and woodiness at the same time. I always get a lot of compliments on it too. Also performs well in every season. I just adore this one so much, in my opinion it’s worth its money!!

marienette

This one opened really sharp and masculine for me. Once the top notes faded a little, it really did smell like tea - like sticking your nose in a tin of really good Chinese black tea (I was reminded of Keemun Mao Feng or a nice Grade A Hao Ya). The dry down was giving me a more masculine, woody scent.

I really enjoyed the first 2 hours of this!

RottigrlNYC

@A13xandra - where did you buy your bottle or sample? I suspect you have either a fake or the perfume went bad. Because this perfume smells very nice and is one of the most beloved from Le Labo.
This is one of the biggest reasons why I hate Le Labo, they should know better than to sell perfume in glass see thru bottles knowing that light and heat are perfume KILLERS.
You MUST keep all your perfume, decants and samples in a dark place that’s consistently under 70 degrees. Preferably 60 degrees. So many ppl don’t know this and keep their perfumes on their bedroom dressers or Eeeekk in the bathroom. Ppl, if u want to ruin them, do what u want .

A13xandra

This perfume truly disagreed with me. It smelled like hot garbage, no exaggeration. I washed it off immediately and gave the 10ml away. I don’t know if my nose is broken but I really don’t understand this fragrance.

spaceybailey

The first spray hits you with bay leaves and bergamot, but no fig. The dry down is like smoking a cigar after being in a horse barn with hay bales all around. Not In a bad way, but then again, I love being around horses. A really elegant, perfume. Gives me EQUESTRIAN girl vibes. Clean, woodsy, fresh and warm at the same time. Very unique, deep and mysterious. I love to ride horses and this perfume reminds me of that. I can see why many don't like it. It's not for just anyone. It's bold, but if layered with the right perfume it can also be gourmand. I like to layer with Kayali Eden Apple. It's like shopping for the Holidays, while drinking an apple cinnamon latte on a cold day. It gives an OUTDOORS vibe, like picking out a real tree. Kissing under the mistletoe, fresh pine cones all over your home, drinking apple punch... Like riding your horse, close to sunset, during cold weather. The smell of your black riding boots, your horse, leather saddle, your natural scent and the amazing smell of your hair, blowing as you ride away. Giving your horse an APPLE because she was such a good girl. That's what it smells like to me. I also wear it when I'm all dressed up for a night out. I like wearing it alone but I'm a gourmand girl, so I love to layer it. This perfume is beautiful. One of my favorites from Le Labo. BISOUS

Chiswell

I think this is a good scent, and get a lot of tea-type notes and some rose notes off it, even though many say they don't smell much tea in it. I have stopped wearing it, as over the last year or so it suddenly seems to be everywhere in my area of London, and while I don't need something completely unique of my own, I don't want to be wearing something that every other person on the street seems to be wearing.

stinkysmellysurly

I really like this smell on myself, but it wears very close to the skin. Longevity is decent, especially if sprayed on clothes or hair. It leans feminine, and on dry down I get a very sweet musky fruity feeling, with a hint of tea but I don't find the tea scent to be all that prominent. Although I love it I'm not sure if I would rebuy it since it's projection is weak.

orpheusdream

I guess some influencer hyped this up. I don't think there is anything exceptional about this.

I get a tea, floral-fig that is quite faint. It's nice. Leans feminine. It's kind of fleeting.

jq0

blind buy for me and I really like it. After the drydown the best description I can give would be slightly sweet, woody, fruity, and the smell of incense. opening smelt mostly like flowers to me.
really expensive though so I would understand why some would not like to splurge on it. i think it is suitable on both genders.

Bluetsprincess

When I first tried The Noir it was a humid 85 degree day in the dead of summer and I was very put off by it. All I got was harsh harsh hay and it did not bring me any type of joy. Something in me told me to put it away until fall.

Lo and behold I pulled it out on a chilly autumn day and fell in love! The citrus and fig popped out just enough to make it warm and comforting. Proof that we really do interpret scents differently throughout the seasons.

haywirelibran

I have an almost full bottle of this (50ml), sprayed it only 5 times. I'm not a fan, because it's too strong for my taste.

I want to sell it.
PM me if interested.
I'm based in France.

brokesta911

Le Labo The Noir 29 (2015) - hay tea - I enjoy wearing tea fragrances, but sadly find them all to common often. Here #frankvoelkl creates one of the darkest tea accords I’ve come across. Starts with Black tea - dark, minty and smoky, mixed with Figs and Bergamot. That quickly develops giving a hay-vetiver accord in its heart. I get fruit, smoke, leather, earth and tea all-in-one. As it dries down, a persistent white musk and sandalwood create projection and sillage. An easy to reach, unisex and versatile fragrance - though spray sparingly.

cmdqt

This a dark, thick, and sweet take on a tea fragrance. Unpleasant opening but an okay drydown.

Ashmoore84_1

Yooo this is a hard pass!! Similarly, if you love it check out Liis Bō, the two fragrances are VERY similar and Liis is a environmentally clean company using clean ingredients from the juice to the packaging. At, ~$160 for a 50ml, The cost is way less for a 95% similar experience..(maybe 100% close). But it's not my vibe. YW!

Summerrteeth

First smelled this on a friend - its how we became introduced to one another! I immediately clocked it as a le labo scent but hadn’t smelled it before. She was wearing it as a summer scent. I imagine fresh earth, brewed tea leaves, and vintage leather. This scent is so sensual and sexy. The dry down turns into green uncured tobacco. Wearing it is an immediate confidence boost, I know I smell amazing.

caophathung

so amazing with the unique fig note at the top note, woody and spicy, good at a cool day in asia prefer wear at night
bc of the mysterious vibe a man who wears a suit in a luxury meeting.

kitkatya

sooo delicious and amazing, might be my new signature. i get lots of compliments on it. woody and spicy, warm, fruity. masculine but perfect for me. comforting on a rainy day. would go crazy if i smelled this on a man TBH

L8Apex

Let me predicate this my saying I am a cigar smoker, and growing up my old man smoked both pipes and cigars, and he wasn't a complete arse so I have a particular fondness for fragrances that contain a noticeable tobacco note or accord. To date I have found - and enjoy - fragrances that have sweet- or spice-oriented pipe tobacco accords, and Herod has been my go-to in this genre for five years. But this is a first for me.

I know Noir 29 is supposed to be a tea scent, but the dry down is IMO the most authentic DRY tobacco leaf fragrance I have smelled to date (note: I have never smelled Mugler's Pure Havana, or SMN's Tobacco Toscano). Yes, I get the fig note. But I have encountered that *exact* same fig note in cigars and it is not uncommon to tobacco leaves (both binder and filler) from different countries. To close my eyes and take this in is to bury my nose in a well-stocked, cedar-lined humidor, or even better, to sit in a well-worn Italian leather chair in a walk-in humidor. it is the aroma of well-cured tobacco leaf at its finest.

The fig note became a little more prominent on the back side of the dry down.

It was only after this firsthand experience I went to see what LL said about it, as the reviews I read tend mostly to be distilled to one word: fig. And to my pleasant surprise, there it was on LL's landing page: "THÉ NOIR 29 is an ode to the noble leaf and the craft that surrounds it."

Now I know they are referring to the tea leaf, but to my nose, it captures the essence of an entirely different noble leaf altogether. Maybe Tabac 28 will smell like tea to me. Or maybe I just need to smell more tea leaves. Either way, I can see adding a FB at some point in time.

As other have said tho, it is not a safe blind buy; sample first.

jillvee

upon first spray onto skin and this is instantly not for me. Maybe the heat, maybe skin chemistry but I am getting an off-putting boozy old man jack daniels alcohol vibe along w wet leaves and old potpourri. I dont get any of the opening fig or bergamot on me. Unfortunately this is an instant scrub. I had high hopes as I've heard a lot about this but luckily I only invested in a tester. I would say this is not a safe blind-buy.

mlke

I go back and forth on this a lot and am considering it as a fall purchase, but h149's reference to dollar store potpourri is a little hard to get out of my head. It's very much the unlisted rose note that I struggle with the most, although I still see the beauty of all the listed notes shining in harmony at times. I personally love the subtle hay-tobacco pairing. It feels cozy and soft in a very natural, agrestic type of way. Like you're taking a nap in some tall grasses on a cool autumn day, and the sweetness of fig comes across as ripe and jammy, but not cloyingly so, which I usually have a sensitivity to. The fruit note gives it a tender, inviting charm, and the bay leaf has a slightly green, aromatic camphor that lends a beautiful complexity to the top. It all mingles together in an alluring, almost understated smoothness.

Then there's the rose- at times adding to the fruity freshness, but also recalling somewhat vintage notions of romance and dried flowers, and also veering towards soapy. In contrast, a subtle smokiness underpins most of it, but it's a sexy shade of black and gives an earthiness similar to black tea. It's here that it feels a little rougher, a little dirtier, and somewhat mysterious. It's something you want to cuddle up with in a chilly sunroom while reading a book and holding a hot drink in your hand, yet somehow the earthy, aromatic-tobacco heart feels just as appropriate to wear on a night out. One of the best Le Labo's by far, and notably something conceived outside of their usual focus on a single ingredient. Unfortunately by the end of the day I'm a little tired of the rose and doubt it's a good choice for me, but it will always have a bit of magic that keeps me wanting to try it.

h149

First try of a Le Labo fragrance. It is not agreeing with me. What I’m getting is artificial Christmas. Fake tree, dollar store potpourri, generic “pine” and “fireplace” candles, a hint of that gluey odor that emanates from clear tape when you rip it off the roll fast. And is something burning??

None of the notes, which I normally find appealing, are working. Fig is one of my favorites but I can’t detect it at all. What’s happening.

I scrubbed it…everything I find wrong with it user elledorado said better below me.

elledorado

there's something about the composition of all le labo scents that strike me as synthetic, give them a uniformity, and give me a headache (aldehydes, maybe?); thé matcha 26 is the only exception.

the name here is misleading; it's not the dark, deep, comforting yet transportive earthiness that you get from a deep whiff of dry black tea. on my skin, it's not a round scent at all. it starts sharp—not "crisp" nor "clean"—like a cleaning product, and then dries down into something very one dimensional and sour. i don't get any of the fuzziness of musk off it. if there's anything in the notes that i pick up, it's the vetiver, but a disappointing expression of it: yellow-green, dried to a crisp, pissy. there's a bit of smoke, but it's more like wet ashes than seductive clouds.

not quite a scrubber, but really not for me.

marietangerine

Chic clean unisex. Fruity, bright fig overlayed with green bay leaves and a hay note. Fresh brewed earl grey tea. This is beautiful in spring and fall.

Alcohol sniffer

The noir to me is such an incredible scent. For me it smells very polished and luxurious (should be for the price tag) but yet a very easy scent to wear on almost any occasion. The tobacco is very subtle to me not really noticeable so if you don't like tobacco don't be discouraged from trying this scent (more floral and black tea, for me it is very classy yet sexy). Personally I get great projection and longevity, with just 2 sprays I got around 9 hours of longevity but a very subtle skin scent by then. A brief warning that this scent might not be suited in the office as it can be cloying to some but definitely use it anytime apart from work. I live in a very tropical and humid climate but this scent still works for me during summer days and is definitely a low-key compliment receiver even though it is regarded by most as a winter and fall scent you can definitely pull it off in the summer with significantly lower amount of sprays of course (1-2 sprays max). Hence why it is currently my signature scent!

Scent of gentleman

Love at the first application. So smooth and tender, yet last the whole day. A beautiful aromatic that makes me feel handsome and confident. Bravo!

ElNino-7-

Have a sample of this. A lot of the time I love it, but sometimes I'm indifferent to it. Therefore it's not worth shelling out for.

Venetian Tangerine

The Noir is, I believe, the sexiest perfume by le labo.

Perfect for a night out, the feeling I firstly and still get is that of a fruity, dark, barrel aged red wine.
This is meant in the most night-enveloping way: the feeling of a finely blended dark port cocktail, perhaps with a dash of aged bourbon.

This effect is obtained by connecting the core fruitiness (le labo's 'fig' accord) to a dark but honeyed tobacco base.
In the base, some woody undertones might be perhaps identified in the cedar and hay found in the pyramid. In my opinion though, these ingredients (together with 'bay leaf' and 'musk') simply enrich this juicy tobacco finish with a sweet and borderline woody-spicy inflection.

No vetiver nor black tea (the noir) is noticeable: classic le labo, beware of relying on the pyramid and even less so on the perfume names.

As I said, a great fruity tobacco scent, which feels like a late night red wine cocktail, in the best and richest possible way.

fourleafedrover8

I so badly want to be the fancy-nose-fragrance-expert who could find “hay” in this but to me this smells exactly like an old-fashioned. A proper old fashioned with the expensive black cherries, and a hand cut ice cube. If you’ve had *that* old fashioned, you’ll be transported to that moment instantly with this scent.

Embodied~Professor

Absolutely gorgeous! An earthy, smoky, deep and complex scent that somehow manages not to be heavy, cloying, too mature, or loud. Just smooth as butter. Wow.

Edit: I first tried this in the late summer and loved it. But it’s even better now that it’s fall. I get strong rose and tea notes, no fig at all. Honestly, it’s stunning.

sunnyviolets

What country clubs smell like with old men who are gambling in them. I wasn't suspecting this to be soapy, but it is in more of a refined way than you'd think. It smells more like a person than a scent. The fig is very, very quiet, and is what elevates the other notes into that jnsq.

The tobacco is the most prominent on my skin, and is the most unique and realistic tobacco note I've smelled. Not sure how this one is "strong," it's projects mildly, if that, for me. Doesn't linger too long on my skin either. Probably 3 hours maximum. Leans masculine, though clearly very unisex. Unfortunately does not evade the cleaning product aroma on me, though that happens with most citrus scents imo.

It's so light, like a whisper of a skin scent. I could be anosmic to maybe the musk in here, albeit I can easily pick out the notes in this one, but everything is just so faint.

Fountain30

Not a fan of Le Labo in general but this is so beautiful. Interesting and complex yet entirely wearable and comforting. Suitable for all seasons. Need a full bottle asap.

calsmells

I absolutely love the noir. I first smelled it in a Nordstrom's and knew I wanted it, but wasn't sure if it was ultimately worth the price tag (spoiler alert, it is). I came back a few weeks later to purchase and fell so hard for this scent. It's a perfect combination between elegance and fun, creating an alluring sense of mystery that I would compare to a speakeasy bar, filled with velvet, leather, and relics of the American west. The fig, bergamot, and bay leaf work wonderfully (although I never see the fresh scent people talk about) and as this scent wears I like it more. It becomes a sort of rich, smoky liquor that carries the weirdly, yet still intoxicating, savory scent from the opening. This isn't to say that I don't see how it's polarizing, it's loud, but that's one of the things I enjoy about it. I always get stopped when I wear this by friends or strangers to ask what it is, and it's very quickly become an every day wear. 100% will be buying a full size.

olachamczyk

I'm not sure what it is, but I find this one unbearable - I strongly suspect the bay leaf. Contrary to the majority of the reviews, The Noir smells annoyingly sweet, and I can't find the green/fresh notes at all. The fig and tea that got me excited to try this one are nowhere to be seen either.

LLdeduction

Very green and lively, somewhat clean at the same time. Its a perfectly balance between subtle sweetness and herbal bitterness. The notes describe it pretty well compared to other fragrances in my opinion. It does kind of remind me of a tea shop or traditional Asian style resort.

Definitely not a blind buy, but a great fragrance that people should give a try. Really nice performance on this one too, it jumps off the skin but also last quite a while.

SwavScent12

Perhaps one of the greatest scents of all time

An acquired taste but this is a must try. Not everyone is gonna like it but those who know, know!

Fatalle

The scent reminds me of wet tanbark, and makes me sneeze. I feel polarized by it. Sometimes I wear it and I'm like "what is that interesting smell" all day. Sometimes I wear it and I can't wait to get home and shower it off.

jmac2104

Anyone out there have a bottle ??

Nurses04.

I received a 100ml of this as a gift after pining after a bottle for quite a few years. It’s one of those scents that I liked, would often spray in a shop but for some reason could never commit to the purchase… you know the type! They stay on the “to buy” list for way too long but other scents always pip them to the post. Anyway, it’s the UK summer and I wore it yesterday. (Yep, prob not the best season for it to shine - I think spring would be better or a crisp winters day). It’s an unusual scent - there is a syrupy sweetness with a contrasting sharpness in the opening (it makes me think of dates rather than fig) it’s very woody, I mostly pick up on the cedar, vetiver and hay. I actually think it smells like it has some patchouli in it but apparently not. Looking at the notes I would expect it to be more “green” but it’s not instead it carries a freshness about it which makes me think of syrup and spiced black tea - but according to the note breakdown it doesn’t contain that either. (In spite of its name!?!) I like it, I find it a scent that’s tricky to describe. Really long lasting, especially on fabric, my clothes radiated all day - it was on my skin for approx 10 hours.

raffaellaru

this has been my signature scent for two years. it's perfectly unisex, and the bay leaf opening is so gorgeous and realistic. it's a "cool girl" scent that's perfect for night time but maybe a bit too intense for summery days. not overly cloying and not too sexy, it's just a nice, chic perfume.

asojuu

it smells so gooooddd, i dont know why my family members hate this so much but i love it so i dont care about their opinions. the opening is a bit in your face but when it dries down it's so good

meredithr

This is a "curled up in a blanket with a book on a cool rainy day" kind of fragrance. I reach for this again and again. The fig and woods are comforting and well balanced. Performance is good - lasts about 6-8 hours. Never thought I would gravitate to a scent with notes of tobacco and hay. Nevertheless, this fragrance is special. Best of Le Labo in my opinion.

Cocosette

A night time scent, elegant and approachable at the same time. I get the fig and green accords at the top, which fade over time but not completely. Musk and tobacco make for a soft, comfortable drydown. Seems rather short lived, but overall much nicer than Santal 33. Leans feminine tho.

mistyblob

I like it! Certainly I have had hit or miss experiences with Le Labo prior but I think this smell captures the earthiness and bitterness of black tea while still conveying warmth. This is quite a subjective judgement to make but The Noir 29 to me smells expensive where Santal 33 smells cheap. Longevity could be better - it's quite a performance at first spray but I put it on at 8 and by noon it's barely even a skin scent, which is tough at this price point.

adahn

Looking at the notes one would assume this is a fresh scent but it's not. It's balsamic, kinda leaning fem, with a dominant vintage rosey feeling. Something a soccer mom would wear, it's really aiming high.

I always bump into women who overspray the hell out of this and it becomes so unappealing and tasteless. In minimal amounts it's fun to smell it once in a while.

caophathung

a damn good fragrance.

bajablast

my boyfriends ex wore this so automatically i hate it. no but seriously it smells like sour dirt with some fruitiness. i don't get the brand, as a whole.

lessthanzero

Here, the worst excesses of Le Labo run amok.

> At first spray: an inescapable WALL of dark-sexy-syrupy-sweet.

> Nothing to do with tea, of course.

> Instead, a pastiche of half-assed, harshly synthetic accords chosen seemingly at random.
>>> Figs. Bay. Sheesha. Stone fruits. Hairspray. Pink roses. Hay. Decades old greeting cards, found in a desk drawer.
>>> Bergamot, cedar, and vanilla - it is a LE LABO, after all.

> Performance?
>>> Loud, outrageous, presumptuous, attention-seeking, bratty, high-pitched, and droning.

> 100% unisex, because it chooses to be all the things, all at once (floral x fruity x woody x tobacco) dialed up to 11

Yes, it's novel, creative, alluring, sexy, and expensive smelling. But just because you CAN do it, doesn't mean you should.

3.5/5

f4iry

honestly don’t know how to describe this scent all I know is it smells sexy and it all depends on the wearers style. this can easily be paired with Kay Ali’s Vanilla 28, they have similarities

tangledinblue

Seemed complex on a smell test, but when I sprayed it on my skin all I could smell for about an hour was freshly cut nectarine. It eventually settled into a fruity wood. I fell in love with it, but the sillage and longevity both left something to be desired, especially for the price tag. Certainly not hopeless, but I don’t have the money to pay for a bottle that won’t linger very long.

moldavitedream

masterpiece, full bottle worthy

Remmel

The Noir is nice, but a bit harsh for me. It's not a listed note, but I get a lot of pepper, with some green herbal notes and warm woodsmoke. But, it does eventually calm to be more enjoyable, losing that pepper to be just a comforting, spicy smoke. It's a very strong scent, I probably wouldn't go over two sprays, maybe three if I'm feeling adventurous, and I'm sure that would last a whole day.

verzosa

Stunning. The Noir is captivating, addictive, well crafted and masterful.

When I first purchased this, I felt I might love it to the point I hated it for how expensive it was. Nope. I bought an 15 ml and I know it's going to last long time (considering how great the performance and comes off as an occasional scent).

The way it projects on my skin is the base of it, the tobacco smokiness playing up the earthy and sweet notes. As a smoker I wouldn't say it is smells like the tobacco burning, moreso the leaves themselves.

This fragrance is so beautiful I'm at a loss of words for this, it's simply devine.

I must add this is one of the best fragrances I have experienced in my life.

tiago.varela

I bought a bottle of this fragrance while I was traveling in Paris with my significant other. I already knew the house and some of their fragrances. At the time I owned a bottle of Santal 33, which my SO absolutely loved on me and so I wanted to show him the house. We ended buying a bottle each. I went with The Noir that I didn't know at the time. I found it very unique and different, but wasn't expecting the love affair I would have with this fragrance. Today this fragrance is amongst my (our) all time favourite. I might be biase here, since it reminds me of our good time in Paris, but isn't fragrances exactly that? Memories of good things?! It's very hard to explain what it smells like, it amazes me how some can tell the notes since to me this is very well blended. It doesn't smell like tea to me. Its green but warm, it's woody but fresh. It's spicy but powdery. I don't know it just smells good. Very unique, not offensive and you will be noticed when you wear it. I've received lots of compliments when wearing this. One Uber driver once told me he was closing the windows of the car so that the smell of my perfume was kept inside. You can totally wear this as a signature scent, but to me I wear it at more dressy occasions. My fav from this house. Also how nice is it that the bottle says the city it was prepared? It makes for a great souvenir/memento. Will cheris this for times to come.

johnsoneva115

I kept smelling this on a friend. It smelled amazing on her- cool, like some obscure dark reddish fruits and rich watery leaves after rain, with the tangy yet soothing aura of unsweetened hibiscus tea. I also noticed it as soon as she came into the room, and could smell it on all her things, so sillage and sticking power is quite good, especially for this brand. It was so enchanting on my friend that I thought this is the perfect perfume. I tried it on my skin and all I got was sour red wine that’s been open for a few days! So that’s skin chemistry for you.

DStace

I received a free sample of this with another purchase. This is a slightly sweet tea / fig fragrance which I feel leans feminine. I wasn’t hugely blown away with the opening, it opens a little on the damper or darker side, but the dry down is really pleasant.

Sweet tea and florals, soft feeling. It is soothing and relaxing. I personally wouldn’t wear this but would really enjoy the scent on a partner.

This is the fourth Le Labo I have smelled and I do really like the house.

jellisunc

Im back after a few months. I originally could not stand the fig in this - most likely due to a bad experience with SJ 3AM (strong yuck).

However, just tried this out again today and wafts I was getting through out the day would make me stop and smile. This formulation is such a mysterious blend, its dry but soft, slightly herbal but fruity, and somehow lightly sweet and bitter.

The performance is all day and more with 2 sprays - what more can you ask for?

Le Labo knocked it out if the park here.

PS, this does not at all smell like JM Pomegranate Noir. PN is very sweet and barely lasts, this is a lot richer and deeper, not as sweet.

I am new to the fragrance game and have definitely gotten alot of Decant's. After recieving a decant of Noir 29 I immediately bought a full 100ml bottle. I wore it while I was snowboarding in Banff with my wife. Spray's on my neck and chest. Every time I work my face covering due to the cold I could smell it, and better yet, after we where done skiing in front of the fireplace I couldn't stop smelling my buff. I suddenly realized it was a new scent I was trying out and was addicted to. My wife says it is a fall, winter, and "maybe" spring scent. I think it is all day all night all year.
You wear scents because you love them and not for other people. I love this.

Owen Witabi

I absolutely love love love this scent. Masterfully crafted and so complex, this is a scent that evokes more than memories or good feelings and instead transports you into a different world. Sweet juicy fruity tobacco smell that lingers in the air and hits your nose when you don’t expect it. You could say this fragrance has a mind of its own: when you look for it you won’t find it, but it will keep coming back to remind you that it’s still there, similar to Santal 33. Absolutely gorgeous scent that is appropriate for any circumstances, perfectly unisex, guaranteed to get you noticed.
Out of my humble collection, this is probably my favourite scent, and I don’t see it changing any time soon.

10/10 masterpiece

asiu

I absolutely adore this fragrance and believe it will become my signature scent. Like a signature, it speaks volumes about the wearer's personality - sophisticated, confident, and unapologetically unique. This scent is not for the faint of heart but for those who dare to stand out and make their mark on the world. It's bitter-sweet (primarily bitter) grapefruit zest in a bottle, a fragrance to be cherished.

wimdeleer

opening is quite bitter to me (lasts about half an hour).... dry down is a lot better, smooth and spicy !

but I am surprised that a lot of people mention the performance to be very strong !
on me it's okay, but absolutely not really powerful

astralmonad870

I would definitely say this is a work of art. When I first sprayed my sample from Le Labo London there was something slightly boozy in the opening—in the bergamot and fig with tobacco. My partner says it smells like whiskey and tobacco. I get damp earth undertones. Definitely a nice unisex fragrance leaning masculine. JM Pomegranate Noir is god-awful because I believe all pomegranate notes should be sweet and not spicy, but this one is nicely blended. I am testing out the dupe from Divain Parfums and gifting a full bottle to my partner.

lithohydrobio

This layered with Aventus, layered with Le Male. Stunner.

wowoweee

this is such a unique, mysterious fragrance (unless you live in nyc because it’s everywhere!) I don’t know enough to describe it well but I get syrupy fig and tobacco.

the noir is my #1 compliment magnet and its incredible sillage and longevity means you’ll get them all night. it’s a bit of an acquired taste so I can see some people not liking it, but I’ve only ever gotten compliments. that said, it’s potent so you can easily overdo it. I only do 2-3 sprays and my 15 ml bottle lasted a surprisingly long time.

definitely not an office frag because it projects far and there’s a lot going on, but that makes it perfect for going out. wear it enough and people will begin to associate you with it. It was my signature scent for about 2 years but now I’m in the process of finding a new one. unsurprisingly, nothing has even come close.

Amelia Katla

So nice and sexy but can easily be oversprayed and overpowering imo. might just be me, but I dont like suffocating people with my presence.
anyway, iI get all of the comparisons in the comment section somewhat, has the sexyness in common with jo malone, and the hay note in common with byredo.
I do like it and it lasts a long time

LittleBigMouth

I have been a long-time lover of Pomegranate Noir from Jo Malone and I still am, but The Noir just usurped that spot thanks to its depth. It also could be a BFF to African Rooibos from Chris Collins, which is in my top 5 and layers BEAUTIFULLY with The Noir.

This is an elegant fragrance that manages to be earthy, natural, and cozy, while still being clean, herby and welcomely aromatic. This Black tea is not bitter though — it comes with a little sugar.

Beautiful and giving but polite projection, it is 100% unisex for me and will make anyone smell kind, comforting and interesting. Frank Voelkl: 😘👌🏻

mesha2sweet

Mmmm…. Where do I start with The Noir 29?? This is a long lasting, compliment getting masterpiece. I have been in a full on relationship with this piece of art since the day that I received it. Which hasn’t been that long, but I knew from first sniff that it was special. On first spray, I imagine if it had a color, it would be a deep purple. I am from Alabama & my sweet grandma (God rest her soul) had a huge fig tree in her backyard. She use to make fig preserves, her figs were brown, but I imagine the figs in The Noir to be purple. Dried plump purple figs, dried rose petals, dried herbs, wood chips, & dried tobacco doing a dance on my skin. I even wear this to work at a veterans hospital. When I walk in the room they say “there she is, smelling so good”. It’s unique, inoffensive & easy to wear. Sillage is perfect. I put a ring on it lol. This is my new signature scent! 💜 💜

SilverRhye

So on my skin, this pulls very tart, bitter, and dry. There's a tiny amount of sweetness whispering in the background, but I wouldn't classify this as a sweet fragrance. It’s unique and I’ve never smelled anything like it before. It's certainly not something I’d wear. I feel that this perfume could really use some balance as it just smells like a tobacco bomb to my nose. It's very fresh though, which is nice. I would classify this as a masculine-leaning fragrance.

Edit: It's been about 30 minutes and I find the scent more pleasant as time goes on. When I smell this, I envision a very clean, cosmopolitan, masc-leaning city-dweller.

sandra_101

You know who would wear this? Marianne in Normal People. Yes, it's that good.

My personal tragedy is that the first five minutes make me feel like the most stylish it-girl/boy/they making the scene at the Gran Cafe de Paris in Tangier in the 50s ... and then ...

... and then my nose detects whatever it is that's creating the bergamot note. The way the aromachemicals are handled here makes me hypernosmic (is that a word?) to it. This has happened with quite a few fragrances now. Basically, once my brain detects it in the composition, literally all I can smell for the rest of the life of the scent is an obnoxious chemical version of lemon drops candy.

I hope you have better luck with this than I did. Sigh.

alternateu

Very interesting!
On me, the predominant "vibe" is a sharp, camphoraceous tobacco - the bay leaf and tobacco really come out to play immediately on my skin. It softens up with further wear, with a bit more of the fig (that rounds out the perfume) and the tea (to kind of "ground" and calm the scent a bit). Doesn't quite smell predominantly like tea to me, more like the bay leaf and tobacco.
Amazing performance - easily full day on me, and very strong projection.
Unisex to very slightly masculine (I'm a woman and would still wear it). Not sure I'd wear it to work purely because the tobacco is so strong, but alone or out with friends, I love it. It gives you a very cool, chill, "I woke up like this" vibe.
In terms of seasons - I think almost all year round except in the hottest seasons of the year. My personal favourite is to wear it during RAINY weather - it really cuts through and "lifts" the rain into something more airy and less humid.

---

I sprayed it in the Le Labo store and oddly, took about 2-3 hours to develop into whatever I smelled in my decant above!
The top notes were nothing so nice and sharp in the store. Hm. What a concept. Maybe I'll stick to buying older, aged decants.

gandrasta

Fig black tea and damp tobacco. Haunting yet comfortable. Performance is amazing with 8+ hours longevity on my skin

ChanelNotes

Reminds me of Killian's Adults because of how fig forward it is, however unlike Adults, this also have a prominent black tea note. Expected something deeper and mysterious. It's nice but not FB worthy for me especially with the mediocre longevity to consider.

jellisunc

I dont get the similarity to Pomegranate Noir, the wood here is darker and bit smokier. PN is very fruity and bright - which i love!

For some reason the fig is so prominent on my skin and I just dont care for fig unfortunately. I really enjoy the woodiness in this but the fig makes my nose want to jump off my face. The same goes for Philosykos.

Great fragrance if you enjoy fig!

cocoapuffs

You duck into a café on a cold and rainy afternoon. A creamy cloud of milk swirls around your rose and hibiscus tea. The floral armchair you sink into is dusty and damp from the wet umbrella still hanging from your wrist. Your coat is still on and you suddenly feel a bit too warm. Smotheringly cozy.

Voyagevoyage33

Perfectly unisex. Fresh, juicy black tea leaves and fig accord comes through. Good projection and longevity. A bit bored by it I have to admit, but still, an objectively “you smell good” remark getter.

vinegarsyndrome

I received this as part of a discovery set from Le Labo. On first spray it smells so overwhelmingly of bright, fresh rose I thought I might have gotten Rose 31 instead, but I don't pick up any cumin so I think this must actually be The Noir 29. It's a very feminine scent to me and very versatile. It's floral but serious. Naming it after black tea is misleading. This doesn't smell like a warm cup of tea to me, but more like a cup that's been forgotten, gone cold and over steeped. Or like an Earl Grey tea stain (a couple hours in I got a faint whiff of bergamot). Not much projection so it feels appropriate for daytime office wear.

SmellySal

I grew up in CA where you can still find wild bay trees in natural areas, and to me the opening of The Noir 29 smells just like pulling a handful of fresh, sun warmed bay leaves, rubbing / crushing them in your hands and sticking your whole face right into them. It's beautiful, though also a really intense, natural, bordering on medicinal scent. On my skin the bay comes through more than anything else, though I also get the fig and tobacco quite clearly. The fig in this one is a sweet, ripe (maybe overripe or dried?) fig-- not a green or milky one. Once it starts to dry down it softens and the vetiver, hay and cedar begin shining through and come together to create this dusty sweet-earthy undertone. For me they are the dusty, dry pine needles underneath the bay tree. Weirdly enough, I really struggle to pull the tea from this one, though I still find this to be a beautiful scent. Bitter, sweet, herbal / woody, dark aromatic, and mysterious. Amazing in cold weather.

Performance for me is really good and can even be too intense if I accidentally overspray. Easily 10 hours, with really strong projection. Expensive, but amazing.

Aleach0918

Thé Noir is a sweet and earthy scent that strikes me as very original. It has some contrasting elements that keep it interesting. The composition smells natural and earthy, yet it comes across as very “perfumey.”. Its scent is striking, but it’s also soft and soothing.

It’s certainly fig dominant as many have said. I also smell rose, cedar, and hay. And unlike many, I do pick up on the bay leaf note. To me the bay leaf gives a bit of a medicinal vibe. It was my grandmother who asked me “are you wearing a balm of some kind?” while wearing this to make me really recognize the bay leaf. A slight creaminess brings all of these notes together beautifully.

Le Labo might be playing 4 demential chess, or they might not, but I really do think this smells like a fine cup of English black tea. The dark green and herbal nuances coming from the woods, hay, and bay come off as the loose leaf tea. While the fig, rose, and tobacco read as sweet and lactonic and act as the addition of milk and sugar to the make the perfect cup.

Performance is soft and longevity is average at around 6-7 hours on my skin. It is very unisex to my nose. Wonderful scent.

My5Scents

It’s a very delicate, soft spoken fragrance.
In the opening I detect the dry, fresh tea accord coupled with a delectable fig note. The fig is so well blended, nestling into the tea, it doesn’t stand out loud and clear like the fig in Un Jardin En Mediterranee, to which TN29 bears a passing resemblance (but outshines - it’s more delicate and refined than UJEM). Bergamot here is toned right down from its usual sharpness. The bay leaf seems to round out the tea accord and keeps the top notes feeling dry. The whole composition is embedded in a comforting musky base, as soft as cotton wool.
It seems to travel through a number of subtle transitions before finally arriving at the warm and gentle, lightly floral cedar base - getting there is such a lovely, smooth journey.
I can’t detect any other individual notes, both because of my underdeveloped nose and the extent of the blending.
Projection is really good, Thé Noir 29 fills the air around the wearer. Longevity is decent, several hours.
Ethereal, calm, quiet, introverted, perhaps a little mysterious - that’s equally a description of the fragrance and the person who it would suit best. Not every fragrance needs to shout “notice me!” from the rooftops, sometimes it can be better conveyed in a whisper.
Masterful perfumery.

pariahqueen

Syrupy fig, then all kinds of foliage (green and bitter, dank and earthy, dry and powdery). Tobacco here and there, and a striking zestiness throughout. This fragrance sits at the venn diagram intersection between moody, fresh, sweet, and musky. There's a delightful herbal note, that borders on being medicinal in the most comforting way.

I picture antique book pages, soaked in astringent black tea.

In my opinion, this is easily Le Labo's greatest concoction. Pure bottled mystique.

MatchaCat

I ordered samples directly from Le Labo's website. Le Labo mixes their perfumes on the spot and they recommend you keep them in the refrigerator because they don't have preservatives so they spoil quicker. Initially, all my samples smelled out of this world. However, after a week or two, they lost their "magic" and settled into their actual smells. My reviews are based on what they will eventually smell like.

The Noir smells like dry black tea leaves with a slightly cedar base. It doesn't have the brewed tea smell, more like the dry tea leaf smell with dark woods. It's not a sweet perfume. It's unisex, maybe leaning slightly masculine. It's a pleasant herbal, woody smell. Le Labo perfumes are stronger than the competition. But their blending is not as complex and smooth. Overall this is a good perfume that some may like.

Smell: 8 out of 10
Longevity: 8 out of 10

For reference, I'm female.

nienke95

I found this while searching for the perfect fig fragrance. Well this is not that, the fig is only a supporting note here. Nevertheless I love this! I smell mostly tea and rose, even though apparently rose is not a note. Very luxurious and comforting at the same time.

FirstSense

This Le Labo is a real good perfume. Lovely natural fruity fique bergamot opening. It gets darker and muskyer. Very intriguing smell. I don't get the tobacco note but I detect a very nice tea smell. Performance and projection are great so I cannot write anything negative about Thé Noir.

Elysiom

Ok, ok, I see you Le Labo. I have of course tried your most popular fragrances and thought 'meh' but there's teeth here, I'll give you that.

I can almost immediately identify this scent memory for me. Have you ever played Manhunt/hide n seek at night, in the woods, in summer? Crouching down in the underbrush, the thick smell of trees and loam, with that electric ozone smell in the air like fresh rain or an oncoming thunderstorm? This is that in a bottle, and I freaking love it.

I'm so glad I took a shot on this one, I haven't purchased any from this house. Fresh, dark, clean. I also smell rose- but its like night-blooming rose or something- sweet and dark but there. Also feels like someone finally got tobacco right- like, seriously. Every other house wants to slap you in the face with it so it overpowers you- this is only there in the background- very faint and just slightly sexy. LOVE. Also finally a unisex fragrance done right and truly unisex. I would devour this on anyone.

Forbidden rose gardens at night right before a storm. FBW, done.

jassca99

The citrus on the top in Thé Noir 29 isn’t as fruity as it is in Matcha 26. To be fair, the bergamot in this, and generally, isn’t as juicy as the orange in that. The fig is also savory like a grilled chewy appetizer and the freshness more aromatic spice created by the bay leaf with a dry greenness from the hay and tobacco. At the same time, there’s a powdery earthy accord running through this reminding me JM Poppy & Barley which is lighter in performance while Thé Noir 29 is all-around moderate to me. This is more woody though and as it dries down, the powdery accord becomes a little smoky. I think that’s just the dry hay, cedar, vetiver and tobacco creating that effect. Due to these qualities, humidity drowns this out a bit because it isn’t sharp enough to cut through it, so this may work best when it’s cooler in spring, fall. The fresh musk and smokiness work in winter too, if you need a break from sweet vanilla scents but want depth from a brighter scent, smoothed from honeyed fig.

Underneath it all, I get a clean molecule musk that’s in all the Le Labo fragrances, and gels well with my skin, that becomes prominent for majority of the wear. I definitely suggest testing because this may be sexy or underwhelming for some or too unisex leaning masculine for others but this is the “tea without tea” scent I’ve been looking for.

inewwilliam

although another 13 and santal 33 are the brand's most popular and talked about scents online, i think this is the actual le labo smell. this scent takes over a room. over the top, sweet, woody, nighttime hotgirl hotboy in the city darling. i dig it.

asiarakk

Dark, rich scent. Kinda gothic. Very mysterious.
First few minutes it’s delicately sweet and woody. Then something bitter is popping out. This thè bitterness, probably.
Bitter and sweet woodenness becomes less woody and more sweet and tobacco.
Personally, I love dark, sweet and tobacco scents.
This was my blind buy, with Santal 33 and another 13. I’m keeping only thè noir.
I’m not a big fan of woody scents, but this wood is delicate. And it’s very harmonious with sweet fig, bergamot and tobacco.
For people, who are little bit snobbish and introverted, with perfect taste and mysterious eyes.
Unisex, definitely.
Day and night time, depending on your style/outfit and personal preferences. I’m wearing it in the gloomy January mornings. Might be depressing on evenings.

After few hour it’s just tobacco on my skin. Not so harsh, little bit sweet tobacco. That’s good.

After 3-5h : scent on my skin reminds me of a black currant. Realistic one.

After 6h+ : (light version of Kilian sweeteness) sweetness + sourness with tobacco on my skin and hair.

Longevity of this one is unreal.

_hypnotic_

Interesting perfume, smells like Dracula's library. Also i clearly feel a hint of rose, even though it's not listed.

marsnadal

this is every downtown girl’s staple.

when I first tested it out, I was at my hiding spot in the mountains and brought a Le Labo discovery set. to give you an image, it’s a long strip of fenced property with a cabin near the cliff surrounded by mostly pine trees.
on the last night of my stay, I decided to wear this and not sleep to wander around more. eventually got tired then found myself sitting on the patio near the main gate. around 3 a.m., I was still sitting and scrolling through my phone when I saw a man walking near the fence.
he was approaching more and more near the gate so I stood up then pretended I can’t see him. I walked briskly to the cabin which is in the rightmost area while I’m texting the caretaker of the property.
my cold sweat definitely brought out the sweet fig note.

as someone who only lives/explores near the equator and chooses to remain that way, I always opt for great summer notes like vetiver but sadly Thé Noir 29 does not last long in high heat.
moderate sillage but still a compliment-getter.
clean but intriguing.

stephendd

Personally, The Noir 29 on my skin personally smells of pure black tea and permeates through the air. This may differ for those with different skin chemistry. Alluring and natural in scent compared to other fragrances on my shelf. A small collection but is made infinitely better with The Noir 29. Out of all the Le Labo scents I've smelt (The Noir 29, Another 13, Neroli 36, Santal 33, Patchouli 24, The Matcha 26 and Bergamote 22) this is personally one of my favourites.

9.3/10

lmnsvgz

Unripe fig, woody notes, it smells dark and green yet airy. I smell a tea note even though it's not listed. It is likeable, masculine-leaning.

Enrium

[550] Thé Noir 29 is an autumnal aromatic scent, herbal, earthy and woody with a dominant, well-placed fig note. In fact, each note is distinct and detectable while contributing to the scent as a whole. It is mulch-like, as @aviegravy below puts it. While there is no tea note listed, the combination of herbal notes and bergamot give a fresh tea effect. I love a good tea note, and it is rendered well here, whether or not it is actually included. It reminds me more of Jo Malone Poppy & Barley than Philosykos, but is preferable to P&B.

TN29 opens with a realistic fig note, made dark and autumnal by the surrounding earthiness. Bergamot adds tart freshness. I get a hint of cordial-like blackcurrant, complementing the fruitiness. Bay leaf is also evident, leafy and herbal, bringing to mind the bay tree on the patio of my childhood home. Some pepper adds a spicy undertone too. Dry, grassy vetiver rounds it out, with woody notes enhancing the mulch-like quality.

The hay-tobacco accord emerges as it dries down, enhancing the earthiness and adding a nice hint of smokiness. Some powdery rose emerges here, soft but unmistakable. It fades to become a musky, earthy skin scent with a hint of fig remaining until final fade. Sillage is moderate and longevity is long-lasting. It is unisex.

An unusually dark, earthy take on fig, TN is not a summery scent at all - the season with which fig is associated. Instead, this scent is an excellent rendering of autumn - I can almost hear the crunch of leaves underfoot. One of the best from Le Labo. Fig 29. 4/5.

aviegravy

very mulchy and autumnal, almost wet, figs on the brink of going rotten. incredibly interesting. wore it and wasn't loving it on me, but then someone complimented me on it, so...do with that what you will.

ohhiiana

I truly can't find any woody notes everybody's writing about, all I smell on myself is a pretty strong rose with a hint of bay leaves. Should this somehow remind of black tea? Yet the rose is beautiful but it's easy to get tired of it until the scent dries down and becomes way more modest.

Youlerie

Dark, sweet and strong incense dream that doesn't overwhelm you. Can't go wrong with it. A compliment-catcher during freezing temperatures!

hachipuppy

Sometimes you have to accept that even perfumes with lovely scents are inappropriate for you. When I first applied my 2ml sample of The Noir 29, I came to that realization. I was so excited as majority of the reviews said it smelt like black tea, while I do see where they are coming from on me the "tea" is not the star. This is a tobacco fragrance with sweet fig, bergamot, and green bay leaves to brighten it up. Gorgeous, however, it leans a bit too masculine to the point where it is off putting. People will ask who is wearing that cologne and I'll pretend I have no clue where it is coming from. I will probably let my partner finish off my vial as it is lovely and shouldn't go to waste.

ysl187

I have a 2ml sample, and i sprayed like 1ml the second time i tried it, and still it only lasted 4hours! This would be a signature fragrance if it lasted. Its soo good, but it as terrible preformace.. for that price, sheesh! Edit. Got a bottle and preformanc is kind of good. I get a full days of work. When spraying on clothes as well.

Luna_503

Probably the only Le Labo fragrance worth buying, although it is very overpriced. Unlike the other 4 Le Labo bottles I own, this one has good longevity and performance overall. If I could only keep 10 fragrances from my collection this would be one of them. Great scent. Unisex and office safe. Always get compliments when I wear it.

CarnationCelt

Very aromatic. The bay leaf and bergamot work together seamlessly to keep the tobacco from overpowering the mix - in fact it's barely detectible to my nose. At times it smells like a very upscale body lotion, or one of those scent sachets you put in the closet, or the more obvious reference of a tea shop! Pleasant and balanced. People who like a fresh tea fragrance will LOVE this.

Shui-Xian

Straight tobacco from the start to the end.
The opening is green and spicy, but just for a second. The vetiver comes immidiately and lasts. Personally I don't like the combination, smells to me stale. Speaking of the tea, I'd say it is pretty old one. But this fragrance is definitely far from the black tea (lapsang maybe).
The pleasant fact is that the musk is very soft and although the perfume is woody and dry, doesn't lack slight creaminess.

Thé Noir is interesting, smart fragrance. Deserves a chance, indeed.

aeharris

This is not a tea fragrance, the name is misleading. It smells like a jammy tobacco and I would say leans masculine as well. I really love the dry down but you have to sit through some interesting layers before you get there. I will probably gift this to a male friend.

AnnaMagenta

2 years ago I got my bottle and was advised to store it in the fridge since it contains natural components and it should extend the 1-year expiration date. Since, I had an experience with LYS 41 before which fragrance had lost opening notes in 14 months, I followed this advice and keep my NOIR 29 bottle in cold. Overall, I'd suggest not buying a big bottle due to it is almost not possible to use it in 1 year ( I've used only 10 ml from my 50 ml bottle so far by spraying it regularly).

After 10 months delicious notes of tea and fig start prevailing over SANTAL 33 notes. However, during summer time, I still experiencing recall S33. Tobacco here is very light, more like tobacco leaves.

Projection is enormous. 1 spray will last for the whole day. Also, I use it in the gym. I think It’s a good perfume for the office (especially, if you work in the creative industry).

Rated_mo

Smells like a more sweet less masculine Ferrari noble fig ...less aromatic as the tobacco add a sweet nice base to it ... regular people won't really fall for it ...but for me it smells so creative..kinda purple colour smell for me

hunter.strawberry

Thé Noir 29 ✽✽✽✽

Barely smells of tea, but who cares when you get lovely musky rose accord with tobacco and bay leaf. One of 3 Le Labo’s worth buying.

derby2169

I generally love tea scents, black tea being my favorite tea as beautifully portrayed in Floraiku the Moon and I. The Noir is unfortunately nowhere near what black tea actually smells like. Think of a spicy woody aromatic masculine with a sweet fruity fig accord and a tobacco dry down. Would have been a nice find at half the price (ideally named differently), but at premium price one should expect a premium product.

Adjames

This one is interesting. I actually think it leans masculine and I much prefer Armani Prive Figuier Eden. I love bay leaves and the other notes, but the fig gets crowded out and I need more black tea. Not quite what I envision in my mind. It is refreshing, and I find I have to layer it with a sweet vanilla to make it more feminine. This will be my last bottle.

DrakonidOP

A little bit disappointed in this one. I have been on a binge to find the perfect signature scent based around tea and I finally got around to The Noir 29 from Le Labo. To make a long story short, I do get a lovely blast of black tea right at the start but then this seems to dry down to a very feminine floral scent- with tea hardly anywhere to be found. This is an extremely floral centric scent, but the flowers are dry and slightly older, like they've been left out in the sun without water for too long. What a let down from Le Labo! I love Santal 33 for the leathery sandalwood drydown but this was just a no go due to the very strong florals.

LachicaGianna

I bought the little vial because I don’t have the money to buy the full bottle, and I will ration this stuff as much as I can!! This perfume is LOVELY. I perceive it as unisex, but it also gives me dark feminine vibes, probably because of the mix of fig and musk. It almost smells like wine, and I love the way the darker, more masculine notes like Vetiver and Musk balance out the fig, which is a big factor of this scent in my opinion. 8/10 because even though this scent is gorgeous, the pricing for a full size bottle is most definitely not. :)

lesliejessicaparker

The opening reminds me of a tea shop, with the strongest scent being a sweet apple tisane, while black tea, rose tea and spices linger in the back ground. I can smell the old wooden drawers containing the teas and spices.
The dry down smells crisp to me, again that apple, a hint of bergamot and what must be the bay leaves.
Over time on my skin it softens and the musk emerges, it softens into an intimate suede or cashmere scent, comforting and warm, slightly too feminine for my liking. Despite the sweetness and rose notes, the scent is still dry, like an Australian dry summer breeze mixed with spices. Very complex and interesting, I can imagine this would smell very different on everybody.

This note pyramid is gorgeous, and exactly the kind of perfume I'd expect to be a dream come true for me. Unfortunately, it's not at all what I get on my skin. In a bizarre twist, this turns powdery rose, a sort of old book accord. So much so that I've checked and double checked the notes to make sure I sprayed the right sample. Really bummed that this doesn't vibe with me, because everyone seems to love it. Oh well!

This is a nice fig perfume. Of the 4 fig perfumes I sampled recently (Diptque Philosykos, Jo malone Poppy and Barley, L'artisan Figuer and this one), I would say this one leans a little more spicy than the others. Of the 4, I liked Jo Malone's and this one the best.

Luna Aurora

This is the best creation by Le Labo. Only one from their lineup that is worth every penny. It is serene, contemplative, sophisticated and more transcendental than most of their more abstract or hip scents.

Smells of black tea and tobacco leaves. Dry and a touch earthy (not at all dirty). Comforting. Beautiful creamy fig gives it life and softens it up. Bergamot is sparkling and gives a layer of crispness upon initial spray, but on me the citrus evaporated rather soon.

The Noir longevity is amazing and the scent keeps developing throughout, although it is not a rollercoaster. With time it becomes more sweetened but also smokey. Distant vetiver comes through. It is cerebral and addictive.

Fimac

I have a sample of this and do like it, but to me it smells like a dupe of pomegranate noir and therefore isn’t particularly unique or worth the money.

I get a lot of dried fruits/dates here which aren’t listed, but I enjoy. I don’t particularly get tobacco or hay.

I have a sample and will enjoy wearing it on cold days, but won’t be purchasing a full bottle.

At first I thought this was going to be too strong for me but the dry down - oh my! So fresh and light and sweet and a little spicy. Walked out of the store thinking I didn’t like it but by the time I got home I had fallen in love with it. Leans quite feminine on my skin but overall it is wonderfully unisex.

The Noir is probably my favourite ever perfume! I feel like I’m wearing an expensive spa that lingers around me all day! I should probably be on commission from Le Labo because I know at least 3 people at my office who splurged on a bottle after getting a whiff of this on me. I get SO MANY compliments wearing this. I’m on about my 4th bottle and I think I’ll be wearing it for life. For me the longevity is great and the sillage is epic! It literally fills a room!

Nice but not my cup of tea.
All I smell is a somewhat metallic jammy-rose... It's super interesting that rose is not listed in the notes here. Know that this is a rose themed fragrance. And also very..."perfumey". Rather than a personal fragrance, it feels like a scented product.
Vetiver, hay, tobacco, nowhere to be found.
Quite feminine if you ask me, never buy without trying.

Airwrecka

Not too bad, moves through the top notes quickly and settles into a very strong musk for a long time which I wasn't enamored by. The base notes however, are lucious; sweet, kinda musky vetiver. I don't get much, if any hay but it's really beautiful. It's a really nice fragrance and probably my favourite of the le labos I've tried so far, not quite good enough for me to buy a full bottle though.

Immediately after spraying this on my skin in a Le Labo store, I wanted to purchase it. I've never smelt anything like it before; its so sexy, sophisticated and intriguing.
The issue is the dry-down. The tobacco and hay combination smells like a damp, burnt bonfire or farm. It's almost rusty and screechy to me. As a young woman I personally find this far too strong and screechy. To me, this leans more towards masculine, and an older scent too.

Coming from someone at the beginning of their perfume journey, this might be an uneducated statement, but I’ve genuinely never smelled anything like The Noir 29 in my life. I went in expecting a black tea fragrance, and this is completely different, but in a good way. Like, it actually blew me away. This is such a perfect combination of notes… fig and tobacco are the stars here, while every other ingredient works to boost their respective fresh greenery and smokiness to create an utterly sexy, sophisticated, and unique masterpiece. This is a good signature scent for intellectuals with a dark and edgy side, because it has so much depth and intrigue to it. Since it also lasts long and projects well, the only downside of this is the price point. Tbh Dossier’s $29 dupe called Citrus Tea is an almost perfect imitation, I’d recommend getting that if you can’t get enough of the original but are broke like me. Also, just saying this is a GREAT frag to mask cigarette smoke in a way that isn’t obvious or trashy.

Strawberryhana

This is my first scent review and I’m only writing it because this is also the scent that I received my first compliment on and I’ve been into perfumes for years. This is the type of scent that people will quite literally stop you in the street to ask you where you got it from, it is also the type of scent that smells different based on your skin chem—for example, on my partner it smells very woody and fresh but on me it smells very rosy and figgy. I’m truly obsessed with how beautiful and unique this scent is. This is the type of scent that you will tell your future kids about. It’s really THAT scent.
