Vanille Havane by Les Indemodables is a Amber Vanilla fragrance for women and men. Vanille Havane was launched in 2020. The nose behind this fragrance is Antoine Lie.

In Vanille Havane by Les Indémodables, perfumer Antoine Lie celebrates the singular ingredient vanilla by taking you on an immersive Virtual Reality journey through its olfactive complexity.

With an emphasis not on the one-dimensional confectionary sweetness many vanilla fragrances highlight but rather on the authentic vanilla bean’s dark richness, Vanille Havane becomes Lie’s interpretation of vanilla as an intoxicating fragrance with facets of rum, dried fruits, cocoa, cigar, and dark florals that reverberate on an ambery leather base.

I like TF Tobacco Vanille, but I don't get the resemblance here. Vanille Havane is such a special fragrance to me. It's one of those perfumes that seriously smells like high quality. To me, this is a bit try, loads and loads of tobacco, with a hint of vanilla and rum. Not sweet at all. Potent as hell, but doesn't scream or take over a room.

IamdrinkingBeer

A more high quality, more rounded up Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille with more coco powder. Superb quality, sublime. A new classic in my opinion. This house is the next generation Frederic Malle for all i care!

Yay_Or_Nay

This is going to be a brutally honest review but someone has to do it, apparently.

This gets a lot of hype and i wonder how many of the reviewers actually know to give a perfume a fair review. At the end of the day, you don't want to influence fellow fragrance enthusiasts into buying something that might disappoint them.

The Good: Beautiful note breakdown - on paper, looks perfect, and it actually smells great as well.

The Bad: Comes in a 50ml bottle, and is hard to find unless you buy direct from the house. If you are looking to find a good discount, you will wait a long time.

The Ugly: If i am paying $250 for a 50ml extrait de parfum, i expect good performance, projection and sillage at the very least. I have at least a dozen 50ml Xerjoff extraits and believe me, i never have to go more than 3-4 sprays. They project nicely and last through the day. Vanille Havane, however, despite the great scent profile, has a lackluster performance. It quickly becomes a skin scent, and doesn't project either. I have worn this at least 10 different times and sprayed both on skin and clothes, and the result is the same.

Having a decent experience in terms of niche fragrances, and judging by how my other perfumes perform, i can tell you that my nose is NOT the issue. Again, despite how much i adore the scent profile here, unfortunately it is a rip-off to charge 250 dollars for a tiny bottle that has no performance. Please do not get blinded by all the hypesters, and try before buying. Trust me, you will be mad when you realize how bad this perfoms.

Wow amazing definitely 10/10

TaeBKK

This one is amazing. Started out with a sample and had to get a full bottle, interested in trying out the roll-on as well. Personally, I mostly get tobacco. Very potent.

Pterichor

Stunningly complex, and unlike any other tobacco/vanilla fragrance I've sampled. Very gourmand, without being cloying.

Opens with incredibly effervescent soda fountain notes with strong projection: Dr. Pepper, Cherry Coke, and Cuba Libre. Dark sweet fruits, in particular black cherries and prunes, are the dominant force in Vanilla Havane, a bit to my surprise. These might be a result of the cocoa extract used; if you've ever tasted high-quality, single origin chocolate, you'll recognize that surprisingly bright fruit note. If you were to infuse dark chocolate covered cherries in rum, you'd have something very similar to VH's opening salvo.

Closer to the skin lie the less gourmand scents, namely tobacco and leather. Its actually quite unique in how VH seems to form simultaneous orbital layers, with cherry chocolate cola in the projective outer sphere, and a cozy leather couch and cigar accord at the body surface. This doesn't seem to be much affected by time, as 4+ hours on, I can still smell each layer independently at their respective altitude.

Utterly unique, cozy, and artfully gourmand without being outright edible, Vanilla Havane is a winner.

The best boozy tobacco scent I’ve ever owned. I’m addicted to this stuff. I like it even better than the extract oil version I sampled. I bought this EDP based on how good that one was. This is absolutely fire and I will wear it whenever I want. The hint of smoke laying in the tobacco and boozy vanilla is just so natural smelling and this stuff is super strong. I gladly paid retail at LS! 10/10

Tshahb

Absolutely glorious, life-changing opening swiftly dries down to a very lovely, but very familiar Tobacco-Vanille type base. Not bad at all, and if I didn't have Tobacco Vanille I might consider buying this, but the magic is in the opening and unfortunately it doesn't last very long.

Claire Dessert

Wow, my experience is quite different from most of the commenters below. But then it's not the first time my skin plays tricks on a perfume....

So I do not get any tobacco or liquor. I simply smell a dark, rooty vanilla and bitter cocoa powder. This may sound a bit boring, but Vanille Havane really is quite stunning. What I like about it is that it stays clear from anything sweet, edible or gourmand. Instead, the vanilla is used to create something earthy and gothic; a vanilla for adults!

Vanilla Havane is dark and dense, almost monolithic (so spray with a very light hand)! It seems like a 'simple' composition in the sense that the formula remains unadorned and quite sobre, as if Antoine Lie really wants to give centre stage to the high quality and complexity of the main ingredients. I think of this as a perfumers perfume.

I prefer Musc des Sables, Oriental Velours and the vetiver cologne from this brand, but I admire the originality and craftmanship in this perfume. The dry down especially is savory and delicious.

Johandemo

I’ve used this scent 4 times, and I have to say: Wow.

I got a 5ml little hand-filled tester and immediately went to buy the full 50ml bottle after trying it. Even if it was around 230€ I just had to. Every other scent which I have ever had on which contained just the smallest hint of vanilla had every single time given me a gnarly headache without fail. This one did NOT give me a headache, which in my mind must mean it does not contain any synthetic vanillin. Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s my theory. Even if you don’t get headaches from synthetic vanillin like I theorize that I do, let this speak to the quality of the fragrance. The quality of the juice is just amazing.

If I would describe the scent itself, I’d say it smells like the most juicy and moist piece of banana bread or tiger-cake with just a splash of cinnamon liqueur coming straight out of the oven. I know the listed note is just dried fruits but my nose picks up both banana and even some dates from the fruity part of this fragrance. The tobacco note blends some needed masculinity into the scent as well.

It becomes a lot darker and powderier as it sits on your skin. And I mean a lot darker.

Projection is good. Longevity is not as good but still decent. In total, I’d give it a score of 10/10. It is truly fantastic.

JaySentz

Decadently boozy dried fruits and spices with a good dose of sticky shisha tobacco. Kind of like a Christmas fruit cake doused in rum lit on fire with a cigar with a little cocoa powder sprinkled on for good measure.

TF Tobacco Vanille isn’t as complex as this and Vanille Havane is a little less sweet. I love both but I would take this instead if I had to choose. It is just so rich and dense. Wish it was easier to find as it seems to be out of stock in a lot of places.

koxayous

sadly the opening is annoyingly similar to jinkoh's amber noir, i even thought I sprayed the wrong sample.
ah the sad disappointment of me not been knocked out with this as much as I hoped to...

its cloyingly sweet, more on a tobacco side rather than vanilla, with spicy gourmand undertones. I also get lots of heavy sticky amber, whereas flowers and cacao not so much. no alcohol so far either.

40mins in: the sweetness that initially bothered me becomes airy and fluffy, light booziness finally comes out. the tobacco here is just so delicious, I wish I could describe how beautiful it is!

Sniffathon

Ok wow. I am a zealous blind buyer but miraculously stopped short of blind buying this. I don’t particularly vibe with tobacco notes hence my rare moment of rationality resulting in a sample purchase instead.
Beware the opening, super strong and tobacco based! But give it time and the spectacular smoothness of this composition makes itself know, and oh my it really is amazing.
But again, must like tobacco accords. This is a bold and strong fragrance. Too bold for my apparent pansy ass tastes 😂

gedlive

I reviewed this a while ago. But enjoyed it a lot today. Just wanted to remind people that this is like Tom Ford Tobacco Vanilla. But the main difference is that this is not nearly as gourmand as Tom Ford. It's more Oriental, but still has a great slightly sweet vanilla.
I prefer this to Tom Ford, as I am not reaching much for gourmands.

MuskyBro

For those of you wondering the difference between the edp and the extrait version, the edp has a stronger tobacco note while the extrait’s cocoa note is more prominent and gourmand. Also, the extrait is definitely smoother. Edp projects more while the extrait is more intimate. In terms of scent, it is extrait > edp, but in terms of overall performance, edp > extrait.

MuskyBro

I’ve sampled a lot of tobacco fragrances, ranging from niche scents like Tobacco Vanille to Herod, and designers like The One and Spicebomb Extreme. Vanille Havane is without a doubt my favorite tobacco scent ever. The notes of cacao, vanilla, and tobacco are masterfully blended together, creating an aura of a beautiful memory for me. My mom had a close friend she would visit a lot during my childhood, and sometimes she would bring me along. This lady owned a cozy duplex, was a chain smoker, and loved her chocolate and coffee. She was truly an Aphrodite, and now that I think about it, she had a very strong sexual aura. Her apartment had a very specific scent that I could not forget for all these years, and Vanille Havane smells just like it. This is my memory in a fragrance, I can’t wait to try the extrait version. 10/10 is my final verdict.

TWN2RBO

I ordered a sample of this from LuckyScent, unfortunately they sent me the extrait absolute. It is very thick like honey. Has anyone smelled the EDP and this one to compare? I mean I’m sure they are similar with this one just lasting longer. Anyways, it’s still a very gorgeous boozy, amber, tobacco, leather scent. I feel I can smell those notes all at once with this one. Has a slight animalic tinge to it as well. The main thing I smell is a boozy amber scent. Everything else just works in harmony. Beautiful leather note. Dried fruits give it some interesting depth. Amazing scent. 8.5/10

SmellMyCheese

This seems to be the most popular from the house. I see why, it's somewhere in between some very popular sweet tobacco fragrances, and pleases I think both niche and mainstream heads by only just a little touching animalic like aspects on top.

If I didn't already own Jeke, Tobacco Oud, Tobacco Vanille, Boclet Tobacco and plenty of decants of other tobacco frags like Diorama then I'd probably buy this. Alas, it's not really doing anything new.

MrMrBrian

This is great! Just like most everyone says!! It really is, & The lasting power of this is outta sight! It checks all the boxes But at some point I have to stop chasing this scent profile. It’s starting to honestly bore me. I have more than plenty like this & always seem to want even more like it…So many in the vein of Tobacco Vanille & Herod..I have those & others similar that I seem to like even more now, And this was one here reminds me of a better more potent version of Herod which I rarely reach for anymore & the why for this may be that I’m wearing myself out on this type of scent. Not too much earlier I would have this purchased in a second. But afraid I’m going to have to give tobacco & vanilla a rest no matter how rich & wonderful it may be

Guardian2471

Vanilla masked by the smell of an old motel room and South Asian incense. Very old and unappealing.

AleksOud

For me this is a much stronger and refined Eau d'Iparie so we have sweetness and warm spices here.

This perfume is beautiful. Elegant, mature and enveloping and so well blended. Great as a fine dining and theatre fragrance for freezing winter.

It is very strong so it should last all night when applied at the start of the evening. I am keeping my sample and planning a purchase.

JusttheFactsMan

#548 in my "Tour de Fragrance"

I for one, whenever I see the word "Havane," am praying for a revival of Mugler "A*Men Pure Havane," which was a 100% badass men's fragrance (A thousand fiery curses on L'Oreal for buying Mugler just to kill a great fragrance house). This ain't that.

At least 100 scents with a tobacco note use "Havane" in the name, and in this case, despite a lot of similar notes, this one isn't intended to duplicate the Mugler DNA and potency as a couple of clone shops like Dua and Palermo actually try to do. But it's a nice enough tobacco scent in it's own right, aimed squarely at Tom Ford "Tobacco Vanille," and it comes fairly close in scent, but not close in potency, though identically priced.

So ask yourself, "Why would I buy a lower potency Tom Ford dupe and still pay a Tom Ford price? Why not just buy the Tom Ford fragrance in the first place?" Just had it with the Tom Ford brand and it's pricing strategy? Join the club! But I'll take it further. Since Maison Alhambra's clone of Tom Ford "Tobacco Vanille," "Tobacco Touch", is a creditable dupe at $30 that actually has better longevity than the original, what kind of thinking would move you to buy Indemodables "Vanille Havane" or the Tom Ford "Tobacco Vanille" for $250 in either case? Makes no sense. If you have the money to burn, buy the Alhambra for $30 and write a $220 check to your local food bank or the charity of your choice. You'll smell great and feel great!

TabledThoughts

Unfortunately there is something offputting to my nose from this fragrance.
Not sure if it is a particular note strenth arrangemdnt or just the dried fruits combined with the tobacco.
If not for those infernal fruits (or whatever smells like a filthy armpit) it would remind me of the OG Burberry London.
Nonetheless, not for me.

I got the EDP and now the extrait and they are both masterpieces. 10/10. The extrait smells more “thick” than the EDP. If you love the EDP, you will love the extrait even more. It’s amazing.

Farrque

Dry, chocolatey tobacco, prunes, date paste and warm (not overly sweet) vanilla with boozy undertones.
Very pleasant, easy to wear yet realistic tobacco scent.

Ed Wardian

A finely flavoured cacao tobacco amber ‘rummed’ up and pinched in ghostly 'garam masala', ripened fruits, darkened vanilla and indole tinges that bring to mind a richly Porto tipped cigar waiting to be chomped on... Beautifully lit in pungency and a fluid steer away from the usual sugary vanilla in the tabac wheelhouse. Boozy, burley and buttery!

mszigetihu

When this was released and the fragrance community picked it up, i was like "meh, another tobacco/havana style fragrance, it was done way too many times". So i didn't even bother to try it, but recently got a sample so i was able to.

Honestly? It's a little bit better than i expected (probably because of the dusty cocoa, which is my favorite thing ever in a fragrance), but i was right, it's not doing anything that hasn't been done before, it just smells way too familiar, kinda like a mish-mash of other popular tobacco fragrances. Tobacolor, Tobacco Vanille, Naxos and god knows what else.

Performance is pretty average.

If you are just starting out and don't have any tobacco fragrances, this is definitely one of the better ones and i would recommend it.

But if you already have a collection with multiple tobacco fragrances, this will bring nothing new to the table and i would pass.

So it's a pass for me. This category is way overdone and i don't think that anyone will bring anything new to the table.

Nihat K.

@Peegore
Thank you for the reply! I’ve bought a 2 ml decant of the edp and still trying it. I like the smell but it seems it doesn’t last long on me also projection not that good. I am thinking about purchasing the parfume oil though. Lets see..

josephc

I get an overdose of cypriol, which ruins this for me.

OlgaAnosova137

This is a rich, boozy, dry tobacco dusted with cocoa. The rum note in the beginning might be a bit offputting but give Vanille Havane some time to develop. There is surely sweetness, but it is sophisticated and not overpowering. If you compare Tobacco Vanille with Vanille Havane, the first one is more about aromatic, slightly juicy, sweetened tobacco with dark chocolate + dried fruits while Vanille Havane is the oriental-gourmand tobacco on max. Both are similar but go in slightly different directions.

Vanille Havane is what I wanted Écrin de Fumée from Serge Lutens to be.
Personal rating: 9/13

Peegore

@Nihat K.

The 10ml Extrait Absolu is pretty much as described by pnw_pluviophile. For me it's a deep rich vanilla, moist tangy tobacco and a dusty cacao. It is indeed an even more decadent iteration of its forebear.

But at 40% concentration this is a very close wearing scent, and longevity is up to 6-ish hours.

I love it, and I love the original EDP equally. For day to day use the EDP is easily the one to lay money out for. I find I wear the Extrait for my own personal enjoyment and indulgence.

DuncanPL

Beautiful rum opening, fragrance is hyper natural smelling… the drydown is basically Vanilla Diorama with animalistic notes and without pungent sandalwood from Dior. Top tier!

Nihat K.

@pnw_pluviophile Can you tell us more about the performance of the 10ml Extrait Absolu? Longevity, sillage, projection. Thank you.

pnw_pluviophile

The new 10 ml Extrait Absolu roll-on: Absolutely decadent. Thick, musky chocolate that reminds me of real deer pod, boozy and gooey. It starts off more vanilla then goes into a deep, dark powdery sweet tobacco that must have incense in it, not Frankincense but maybe a resinous labdanum? It is smoky but not cigar or cigarette tobacco smoky. This is honestly my new favorite scent. Will need another 10 ml because I'm going to use this up quickly! Chef's kiss.

twoski

A beautiful slightly spiced rum blended with vanilla pod and cacao with a slight hint of amberwood and leather in the background. The cacao and vanilla are kind of fighting for center stage, which i think i prefer since straight up vanilla fragrances tend to bore me without some kind of twist.

Not 100% gourmand, but it does have many gourmand facets.

Beautiful unisex cold weather scent. Sweet but not overwhelming.

_NicoleNonya

A lovely linear well rounded fragrance which to my nose leans masculine.
I didn't find it to be a large projector, but the longevity lasts ages.
I would love to smell this on my husband, 2nd place to Baby Cat for a men's linear vanilla scent.
The leather is prominent, sweetness peers through from the dried fruits, a little boozy, not as much vanilla as I'd hoped.
I like this a lot, but again, on a man.

Charmedbymeghan

First Impression:

This is gorgeous. A beautiful resinous ambery vanilla. The tobacco isn't a main player to me, but now that I see that's a note - Ok I can see it being in here too. And I would say the same for the leather note too. The notes are well blended.

This perfume is straddling the line between aromatic & gourmand -vanilla, making it feel more Unisex than anything.

The more it sits on my skin the less gourmand-feeling it gets though.... I am kinda getting a (minor) camphorous effect too, although not minty. I suspect this is coming from the tobacco.

As lovely as this is, I am not sure I need it in my collection. I just have other things I would put higher on the list. And I have another favorite aromatic vanilla right now - Givenchy Pi - that I much prefer to this (although it doesn't share all the same notes and is not the same*), it is much cheaper too... and I also have another vanilla/tobacco higher on my list - and that is Kayali Tobacco Oud. And i have my eye on a couple Serge Lutens too**... so do I need this? No. But I see the beauty in this nontheless.

Odor Aeternitatis

Interestingly, this perfume is known as a tobacco fragrance in the community. But as the name suggests, THIS IS A VANILLA fragrance. A real vanilla. Even "Fragrantica" named tobacco notes as the main ingredient. But as you can check on the Les Indemodables website, there is no tobacco in this fragrance!

More than 90% of the vanilla used in perfumery, in designer, niche, and even very expensive luxury perfumes is from a cheap synthetic material named vanillin. That's what people usually know about vanilla, a sweet flavor you can smell in ice cream, desserts, cakes, and even coffee. But this is far from real vanilla.

Real vanilla pods have a very fine, exotic, extremely rich, and finely sweet smell. It is a multi-faceted ingredient with tobacco, balsamic, and woody structure. Tobacco and vanilla have some common facets. And even for creating a tobacco accord, vanilla is usually one ingredient, but not vice versa. Considering all these points, I understand why this is called a tobacco fragrance. And it's fair. If you like to pick a tobacco fragrance, this is THE BEST one among many tobacco fragrances I've tried.

What Antoine Lie did masterfully in this fragrance was to pick different facets of vanilla and elaborate them in the perfume. In other words, he gives some resolution to different olfactory facets of the raw vanilla pods. To make it wearable as a fragrance, he added touch floral notes like Jasmin in the background.

Like many fragrances from this brand, you can't have a full experience or even understand the fragrance in the first sniff or the top note. You should wait and experience it thoroughly from the top to the base to have a full experience of the fragrance. Not for beginners and not a safe blind.

10/10

Aromazeal

Yummy! Banana skids in a fragrance form

gedlive

It opens with sharp resins. It feels like some synthetic oud with the amber. Or it may be leather in the base. So there is a strong oriental side to this, much more so than TF Tobacco Vanilla.
So it's definitely more masculine than TV.
So it's dark, incense, resinous side is very good in itself.
But then comes a nice chocolaty tobacco with a little sweet vanilla. The two sides of the fragrance work well together, and balance the fragrance.
So it's more mature and serious fragrance than a yummy TF Tobacco Vanilla.
More unique. Maybe my #1 tobacco fragrance.

Kenia1972

Honesty I dont know nothing about The Perfume's World I watched a video about tobacco fragances and I like this note. I bougth a test and the perfum smell like a rich and very especial woman. I can't tell nothing bad. For me ithe notes are perfectly balanced. . I close my eyes and I see myself wearing a long and luxury dress and diamond earrings, really!. I love this perfume. The price, well..you know...I will buy in Chrismas, sure 100%.❤️❤️❤️❤️

Saxman_72

Delicious, spicy, banana-bread.

T-MacJr21

Reminds me a bit of The One Luminous Nights. Maybe it's the dates note though. Not bad but to save some coin I'd choose

lessthanzero

@WGG below is spot on. An unbelievably alluring, warm, cozy, sexy, woody, sweet drydown that last for DAYS. But to get there, you have to slog through the opening and heart of gluey maple-banana bread.

Technically superb. Not for me.

Westchester

Right in my wheelhouse.

Love this. I had tried TF Tobacco Vanille and liked it deal. Bought a bottle. I liked it, yet did not love it. To me it seemed too sweet, soft, and, not complex. However, I was intrigued by the concept, and so dove into a search for an alternative (a list of what I tried is below). After all this searching, Vanille Havane won out. For me, it is the perfect mix of a tobacco (a dry tobacco), rum booziness (with a touch of cognac), and vanilla over dark fruits, some honey sweetness (but not honey per se), cocoa, and amber. The amber and cocoa come out more in the dry-down but the basic mixture of tobacco, rum/cognac, and vanilla persists throughout. I found others in this genre to be either too sweet or too robustly tobacco-oriented. The mix of notes here, by comparison, sings for me. Perhaps those who might have mixed feelings about this prefer tobacco/vanilla scents that lean one way or the other. For me, though, this is just right. I also find the scent to be a natural one; others I tried oft-times had synthetic resonances. None here.

Also have to note that it has – for me, at least – great durability. Lasts and lasts. The projection and sillage are also above average, yet not overpowering – basically it’s in my desired zone. Lastly, the value/price was just fine for me.

All in all, this is my go-to, perhaps I might say signature scent, for the colder half of the year.

Those I also tried included: Tobacco Vanille (obviously, since I still have the bottle), Tobacco Oud, Herod, Spicebomb, Red Tobacco, Mystery Tobacco, Tobacolor, Sundowner, Chergui, Ambre Russe, Bourbon, Mona di Orio's Vanille, as well as other more fundamentally vanilla scents. So, yes, I did try a fair mix of others.

Printeza7

I have a test from the discovery set, it's lovely, very unisex, in my opinion this one will sit better on a man but for a powerful strong fragrance a woman can wear it too :-) I like it!!

8:30pm @ Dorsia

Vanille Havane took me slightly by surprise.

All too often I look at this type of fragrance and it's notes and think to myself "I like the sound of this one, I will try it" only to be a little disappointed, quite often something does not sit right, the tobacco is too strong, there is an overdose of a note I do not like, the fragrance wears me down over the day etc. But this one is different, this one is exceptional.

The tobacco is high quality, the vanilla is slightly darker and less sweet than expected. The cacao adds a nice touch in the background. The leather is present to add a little backbone, but it is fleeting and soft, almost like high quality suede, and it was added as a steady anchor-point for the other notes. This is good for me, as I am not a huge fan of leather in fragrances. There is sweetness here, but not too much, there is a bold tobacco, but it is not too strong or bitter, the chocolate/ cacao note rounds it out extremely well.

Absolutely no issues with the performance here, this is very well blended with quality ingredients and lasts all day, this is a strong fragrance, very persistent.

Although this style of fragrance has literally flooded the market now, this one offers a difference, it is almost like every scent of this style has been distilled down to one single fragrance: Tobacco Vanille, Dior Vanilla Diorama, Tiziana Terenzi Ursa, V&R Spicebomb, Kyali Invite Only Amber 23 etc. They all seem to be in here to one degree or another.

One also has to be careful about how they wear this, I sprayed directly to the nape of the neck and found it too strong. Changing to a small spray on each side of the neck made it more wearable, catching this one in the air as I moved, for me, was better than inhaling it directly . This fragrance is very potent, and a little goes a very long way.

My recommendation would be to try a sample first, this one is expensive (£200 for 50ml) but in a market over-saturated with this type of fragrance, it stands out. The quality is undeniable, the liquid itself is viscous and luxurious.

10/10 for this one, I have just ordered a bottle.

Asturiias

Exactly what it says on the tin - vanilla and tobacco, done in a rich, full-bodied manner.

There's a persistent ashy smokiness to the tobacco which amplifies up close and makes it lean rugged and cosy. Suffusing, akin to the warmth at the back of the throat on a leisurely draw on a cigarette.

The fruity, boozy opening shows itself for a delicious, fleeting moment. Vanilla stays subdued, flowing underneath as a smoothening, supportive texture. Avoids showing powdery nor gourmand edges.

This is outstanding in a growingly crowded genre if one favours smokiness to temper typically sweet scents. It is not often at all that I find myself enthralled at first sniff, the kind where you find yourself wanting to bring your arm to your nose all day, and probably will think of the scent excitedly between wearings. This does it. Fits like a glove, a warm, cosy glove.

ReflectionMan48

Smells amazing. Chocolaty vanilla tobacco.
Still a bit overpriced full retail but if you can find it at a discounter then snag it.
I disagree with the below comment about the similarity to Franck Boclet's Tobacco.
This is a unique and gorgeous scent.
The Franck Boclet is much closer to TF Tobacco Vanille than this one.
A must try fragrance for tobacco fragrance fans. It's fantastic.

dilettante

This is syrup jammy sweet fragrance. Haven't done a note comparison but this on my skin is pretty much the same as Franck Boclet's Tobacco.

There's something very intoxicating about this fragrance. I think it's definitely one that stands out within what's been put out lately, especially if you put it in the vanilla category. Look at the notes and think of something dense and bold. The folks at les indemondables know a thing or two about perfume. I can't say I like all of them but they're well crafted.

Vanille Havane had the Grand Soir effect on me: there’s a woody amber aroma chemical aspect lurking in the shadows that makes it hard to handle for more than half an hour. Bummer.

Perrynelson777

This reminds me a lot of Parfums De Marly Layton mixed with some Tom Ford tobacco vanille. I'm not sure if it's more like Layton or Layton Exclusif, but it doesn't have the challenging oud/civet in it. The opening of this one has the Rum and cigar smell. After about 20 minutes it smells more like Layton. I'm sure this is better quality and it's more enjoyable to smell for me. I can see this one being very popular.

Snozzberry

Very different tobacco note than the sweet and spicy type you'll find in scents like Tobacco Vanille. This tobacco is much more syrupy and sumptuous. There is also cocoa and patchouly in the opening, which smells almost exactly like a cross between Wicked Good and Behold, Patchouli by Gallagher. Dries down to a delicious baked goods smell. Extremely high quality, well-blended, and worth the money if you like hardcore gourmands.

WGG

The drydown on this is fantastic - like a cross between Tobacco Oud and Spritueuse Double Vanille. But to get there you have to wade through the weird ginger/bananabread opening. Sadly spoils it for me, only a like.

Compositeur

Truly outstanding. Plus, it has a strong performance without losing any of its elegance. Very rare these days.

I've been trying to think of what it reminds me of, but I can't really place it. There is an element of Pasha EDP (the boozy element), but this is by miles better and richer.
On the official website it's described as: '...rum, dried fruits, cocoa, cigar, and dark florals'. This last element (the dark florals) is then explained as: Jasmine Egypt concrete 'distillat' Grand Cru 0,2%. So, perhaps, not so much as dark florals (after all what does that mean?!), but more like indolic jasmine adding that extra dimension.
Also, yes cigar is there, but I don't feel that the predominant note is tobacco. To my nose at least this is a leather perfume with amber and vanilla. There are 2 different kinds of vanilla included, one from Comoros and the other from Colombia. Kudos to Mr Lie for creating a vanilla accord that is as far away from the usual fluffy gourmand as possible. It comes across as deep and flavoursome, almost like brown sugar (or is that the rum?!). The end result is very seductive.

Vanille Havane is fantastic. And powerful. I made the mistake of overspraying the first time I wore it. I didn’t realize it until a couple people at the cafe moved to a table further away from me. Yikes.

For me, I get both a strong smooth vanilla and a potent but not obnoxious tobacco. Just beautiful. Yet it didn’t smell like the other vanilla/tobacco fragrances that I own. It’s unique, cozy, and smells high-class. I definitely recommend.

Bakhoor

Opens strong! smells like patchouli/tobacco to me even as no patch listed. Here comes the Rum 🍹 Strong tobacco/boozy/patch/cacao/dried fruits w/vanilla in the dry down. On the 2nd wearing I layered it with Tihota. Excellent with Tihota. 👍🏻 This is top-tier, but comes with top-tier price. I do notice aspects of The Dark Heart of Old Havana swapping the Rum 🍹 for the Sugar and the Cacao for the Coffee ☕️ All FUN

jeffwithfrags

The very start of this scent goes down a syrupy boozy candylike road that's very opulent and mature and it really captivates.

The vanilla is syrupy and wonderful and begins to form one of those thick scent bubbles (not powdery) and it is also joined by a brief hot semi-steamy Cacao drink. Amazing at this point.

But then , the dreaded 'woody pee' note kicks in. A note like faintly screeching sawdust (not as bad or powdery as that in here however) makes it's presence known and quickly asserts itself as a co-dominant accord alongside the syrupy-vanillic Greatness. I also get more 'ashtray' also kicking in now and really not a fan of this type of tobacco.

It's just that I felt the ''pee woodchippy'' theme just becomes too much during the scent development - and I find this so sad as the syrupy vanilla is so amazing wrapping you like a thick dreamy and cosy blanket.

It's honestly one of the Best vanilla's I've ever smelled and believed me, as a Gourmand fanatic and as bloated as the Vanilla genre is - that's not easy to say! Top 3 Vanilla's for me at least.

I'll test it further but sadly, what went from an Insta-buy becomes a difficult on the fence sort of deal. I still prefer MDCI's L'homme aux Gants overall in this Vanillic-tobacco subgenre. Hmmm, I'll be generous for now but with that price-tag maybe I shouldn't be. Just barely a 7.

My rating: 7/10.

I tried Vanille Havane sample few weeks ago and Tobacolor from Dior several days ago.

I finally understood that VH reminds me a lot of Tobacolor, because both are/have:
- tobacco focused scents
- powdery and fruity sweet
- smoky facets
- floral nuances
- ambery base

Plum, honey together with peach and oriental notes in Tobacolor creates similar accord to rum, vanilla, cacao and dried fruits in VH.

Those are impressions based just on hand tests, may change after global wearings - then I will update this comment.

Dantheman41

Definitely can confuse this with TF Tobacco Vanille but there are differences. In my opinion, if you one of the of 2, it could be redundant but if you don't own either, it just depend on what you prefer. This particular fragrance has thst spice and vanilla like TF but it's far more pronounced in TFTV. In this one, there is a dark fruits (dates) are more prounced and gives this a more boozy touch (along with some alcoholic beverage added to this).

They're both rich and masculine, can't go wrong with both. I know I didn't speak of Tobacco and both these do have it but to me, it's almost secondary to the other notes mentioned.

Best describe this as starts of Tobacco Vanille by Tom Ford and ends more and more like Lost Cherry but more syrupy, darker, smokies some

Medes

In the first two hours, sour and sweet aromas of rum and dried fruit are dominant, with a dark leathery-ambery theme. But then the top notes fade and an intense ambery-powdery smell that is similar to many other perfumes remains for a long time. This long lasting, while the fragrance has lost its good components, has no other use except for dullness.

Absolutely masterfully blended fragrance, smells amazing. However its too expensive and cannot be found at discounters therefore getting it is a real hassle so might as well forget it, every scent can be replaced.

gedlive

Yeah, this is about the best tobacco fragrance for me.
It is like Tobacco Vanilla, but it's more masculine and Oriental, less gourmand.
It feels like there is some oud here, and with the florals makes a nice accord.
The best and most authentic tobacco note in a fragrance is Tabac Rouge by Phaedon.

The Tom Ford Tobacco Vanilla adds some aroma chemical to make an artificial fragrance accord, that gives it a wow factor. But I am attracted more to the natural blending in this one.

hritz87

TF tobacco vanille killer!!

this is pure heaven

Omg! I absolutely adore this fragrance!! This is the best of all the tobacco fragrances I love mixed with the spicy gourmandness of others I love. To me… if Coromandel and Tobacco Vanille had a baby- this is it!!! This is definitely FB worthy for me!

Bloodlust

Black coffee grounds, a non-gourmand tobacco note so dry it FEELS mentholated, an old cigar box. A dash of cacao. And a peculiar animalic leather note that is overbearing and smothers any sense of sweetness, airiness. Dust.

I imagine every single cowboy to smell this way.

I repeat: this is not a gourmand.

Punkrockbebop

After building this up in my mind for a very long time, I finally got a sample, and Vanille Havane turns out to be a disappointment for me, unfortunately. It is a mild, soft projecting, dry powdery/sandalwoody scent with some cocoa powder, disappointingly weak tobacco and it’s only mildly boozy. It is not rich like I thought it would be, nor do I sense much bourbon vanilla or fruits. I’m trying it in summer air conditioning, but if I blow hot air on my wrist the tobacco does bloom more and just a touch of fruitiness comes out, so maybe wearing in the heat or a warmer body temperature is needed. Even if I warm it up, however, it’s mildly pleasant but just too powdery for my taste. It’s nothing close to Baque, btw, I’m afraid it’s a pass.

Rjdee

This is very gourmand. Smells edible. But stunning. I have always found it interesting how a lot of women love this type of gourmand scent on a man. Truly nice stuff. Chocolate/light boozy/smooth tobacco. If you love desert scents that still maintain the artistry of a nice perfume then you will adore this.

There is alway a delicate dance between a fragrance that smells artistically beautiful but will not be loved by the masses and a fragrance that everyone in the mall would like but has no artistic value. This does a good job of hitting the middle. Better than a PDM and not quite like a Roja. Hope everyone is doing well!

Kaylovely

The best! If you like Dulce Diablo but found that more so Summer time. Try this! Dried fruit, cocoa vibe! Amazing!

CJay

I wanted to like it, big fan of tobacco/vanilla/leather frags, but ultimately generic and cheap smelling on me.

The opening was promising, fresh cigar box and a cooled spiced vanilla were prominent but overlaid with a well balanced cacao nib, dried fruit of the candied citrus peel and raisin variety, and slightly yellow tinged (maybe the rum but couldn't find a boozy note) white floral voille. Got about ten minutes of this, and was very happy.

Then it all starts to go bad. Leather of the expansive car seat/handbag variety and salty amber make an appearance about 15 minutes later, but it's not all balanced. It smells...wet?? Sweaty, but not body odour, just clean skin well hydrated person sitting in humid weather sweat. With a cheap ice cream vanilla background.

The dry down was like someone had wiped a plastic box out with vanilla, put a cheap cigar in it, left it in the hot sun for a while, took the cigar out, wiped it with a paper towel and put it away. The smell the next day is what this smells like.

Not at all worth it for my skin, might work better for others.
Will not be buying this.

TaylorKloss

I cannot stand the Tobacco note in this.

gedlive

I just thought of a very accurate way to describe this;
It is a blend of Tom Ford Tobacco Vanilla and Tom Ford Tobacco Oud

Cletus Lorentz

Super boozy, dark, burnt vanilla, sweet and cloying. Getting no tobacco at all. To my nose one of the worst smelling fragrances I have ever tried(artistic ones excepted).

darkstarcrashes

I haven't seen anyone compare this to Kilian's Angel's Share, but they could be cousins. Vanille Havane is much more masculine and dark with the tobacco, but they're definitely similar. Boozy spice, bitter dark chocolate, pipe tobacco, raw vanilla, cloves. The opening has something nutty about it, like rum-soaked banana bread. It reminds me of Christmas pastries, but not in a sweet, sugary way. If you've had the German pastry Lebkuchen, it's very similar to that. Tobacco/vanilla has always been an intriguing combination, but I've never found anything really satisfying until Vanille Havane. It's better than Herod, Tobacco Vanille, Creation-E in my book.

cwavah

i get alot of that dry leaf tobacco in dry down ... rum and spice in the opening

Sdc_86

Opens with tobacco and vanilla, then drys down to a beautiful amber chocolate. I love it.

sables19

If I were a vanilla fan, I would rave. But at least I can say that this is a nice, not overly sweet tobacco-vanilla-cocoa confection. It doesn't quite reach the sophistication of Czech & Speake's 'Cuba' (it simply lacks the erotic vibes), but everything is arranged in a warming and cosy way - a little too cosy for me.
Probably the safest fragrance of the great Les Indémodables series.

iszzieanna

This is powerful! Be careful on the trigger because even two sprays could fill a room. This is extremely smokey and deep, rich from amber, tobacco and rum. Each note is respectively smelt but also, they blend seamlessly together. This demands attention. I appreciate this scent but never would I ever be able to wear this out. If tobacco Vanille, by the fireplace and Ryder had a kid, it would be this. This is perfumery at its best.

Dr B1414

Sweet vanilla, powdery benzoin, booze. No tobacco (unless you think Naxos, Herod, etc, showcase a realistic tobacco accord), no cocoa, or dried fruits. As expected, generic and mass appealing, hence the hype. Had to try it though.

Arber Cami

Opens uw really boozy and sweet. Dries down to a cloying sweet, tobacco, slightly animalic/leathery scent. More sweetness and tobacco than vanilla. I would call this scent leather-cocoa with sweet tobacco scent. I dont like it.

AquaBaby5

I have not smelled anything quite like this. In the “smells like” it has Tobacco Vanille and Herod, but I disagree with both. My usual tobacco scent is Chergui, which is powdery and more formal, this is sweeter, deeper, sexier, but also a bit playful? The tobacco and cacao combined is genius. This is a sweet fragrance, but in my opinion still leans masculine. I like some unisex scents for personal wear but I would prefer this on my husband. Unfortunately for me, he doesn’t care for it. Might try it again in the cooler months. So far this house has impressed me.

Qleen

Addictive, divine sweet pipe tobacco , slightly animalic though not listed and only in the opening maybe from rum idk but this is an amazing cool weather fragrance.. I would compare more to tobacco vanille by TF then Herod which I’d prefer over both but this is a pusher amazing performance amazing blend amazing smell

Elastics

This should be a staple in anyone's collection. It delivers exactly what the name promises; vanilla, tobacco and rum from the top to the bass notes. Quite a versatile scent that is suitable for casual nights out, dinners and colder weather.

*loves_shoes*

This has a lot of rum (it’s very boozy), and a lot of cacao (dark and bitter not milky or smooth), and lots of aromatic leather which comes out on my skin more than the sweet tobacco, which makes it very unisex, maybe even bordering on traditionally masculine leaning during the first 20 minutes.
During the dry down, warm spices come out (I swear I can smell cinnamon, quite strongly!) and the vanilla becomes more prominent. It has an almost incense vibe.

A very good, cold weather scent for those who like very boozy, warm spicy, cacao, tobacco leather scents. If you don’t know that you already like those notes I wouldn’t say this is a safe blind buy, as it’s not as easy to wear as some others in this genre, this is definitely niche.

Got a 10ml decant which will be plenty enough, as there are other fragrances in this genre that I do prefer for myself.

Marcela P

This is divine! It smells like a boozy Tobacco Vanille, but with the cacao accord dialed up and the tobacco toned down. The addition of leather is genius and adds a cool edge to it. The result is an overall more sumptuous experience. It also smells more "niche" than Tobacco Vanille, meaning it smells more unique and special.

Vannamae__

From a sample:
Great scent. Not the same as TFTV, but in the same family. This one is more boozy and sweet. There’s a clear difference between the two that you could justify having both if you love tobacco scents that is. It’s entering warmer weather where I live currently so I’m not going to buy a FB of this for this now. It has moderate projection and superb lasting power and silage. Mind you I only had a tiny 1ml sample of this so I bet with more juice, it could perhaps be a beast mode fragrance. I could smell it on myself upon waking up the next morning and I got a whiff during the night when I got up for some water. I didn’t spray it on my shirt directly because the juice looked quite dark, I didn’t want to risk staining but the scent got on my shirt without spraying there and stuck to it. I’m not mad about it, it’s a gorgeous scent ;) Worth the price IMO, will definitely be buying a bottle in the fall.

butter2

this is great. almost has a petrichor type smell to it. like the smell in the air after first rain

gusziguszigagaga

For ba2l omg, order from sensuniqueparis and relax

SirCharles

This is my favorite sweet tobacco scent. In the same family as Tobacco Vanille, but by no means a clone. Tobacco Vanille is more Las Vegas, Vanille Havane is more Miami. Vanille Havane is a really authentic blend of dark rum, cigar tobacco, chocolate, and spices. Smells completely delicious.

redberry11

Boozy amber-tobacco opening, heavy and warm, dries down smoky and a little acrid on my skin, leans slightly masculine. I am also getting the richness of cocoa and dried fruit in the first hour or so but the vanilla is less prominent/ natural/ not too sweet to me...I wouldn't call this perfume 'gourmand'. Nice scent, multifaceted and well blended but not the one I would buy and wear...though for me it's better than TF's Tobacco Vanille.
Overall the brand makes a big deal out of the high concentration of materials they use. But do they really? I don't know. The only thing I know is that the outcome (although mostly not unpleasant and mostly obviously well executed) leaves me with no emotions or desire to buy a full bottle. Speaking of the bottle - the scents only confirmed the direction the package suggested - leaning more masculine and back to the roots.

singhdivjot

I get dior tobacolor kind of vibes from this one.

smellydude

This was hyped on Youtube by some (Usmellsgood fanboys) but to me it's just an ok Tobacco. Vanilla Havane is a dry, boozy and sweet. There are many other brands who have done this theme before (vanilla , tobacco , booze) and even better. Ambre Russe by Parfums d'Empire (2003) is imediately what I thought of when I smelled Vanille Havane but Ambre Russe is more layered and evolves more. If you like Ambre Russe I'm sure you will apreciate this. Does Vanilla Havane ad something new to the already available tobacco and vanilla fragrances out there? no not really. The bottle feels and looks a bit cheap like a Frederick Malle wannabe. Nonetheless it's nice but no need for me to buy this.

Tyrone E

A very linear, boozy, vanilla and cocoa gourmand fragrance.

Performance is good. An hour of decent projection, 8 hours as a skin scent.

AndraLau

I have mixed feelings here...
So I got the sample because I am very into tobacco and boozy scents in particular, and seeing how popular this one is right now that is even nominated here in fragrantica to best niche perfume (If I am not wrong) I decided I need it to sample it. Well, I got it today and I feel this perfume is very similar to Chicago High by Vilhelm parfumerie, but in my opinion Chicago High is way more exquisite and quite more unique than this one.

So it opens with a heavy tobacco note, you can feel it almost in your nose at all time, then you get the rum and some chocolate, but still the tobacco just overpower everything. later after a good amount of time you can feel the vanilla which is very creamy and rich in addition with the amber and leather, it dries down to a leathery/spicy/vanilla fragrance. with that being said I Just expected more from this perfume, the name is so iconic I was waiting this to have "la havana" spirit inside the bottle and in my opinion it failed to do so... is not a bad perfume, but for $260 I was expecting a lot more creativity and uniqueness, if you love tobacco perfumes I feel Chicago High is a better option than this one, Plus the performance on this scent is not the one for such a pricey one. Sample it and judge for yourself.

gedlive

Update: I did get a beautiful 10 ml decant spray from ebayer, great price.
I have a lot of frags that are similar, but this has it all, in a great composition.
It has the great tobacco/ vanilla combo, great Amber/ oud combo, chocolate, nice rum/ leather fragrance accord on top mostly.
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanilla may be more yummy, but Vanille Havane is more wearable!
In the mid they become more similar, the whiffs of rum you get is great.
________________________
Wow! I read a lot of reviews while waiting for my sample, and most of the reviews had me imagining something WAY different.
My first impression was OUD! I think there is an unlisted oud note.
It is an Oud and Amber accord, with some frankincense. The rum gives the resins a fresh spiciness, with the booziness restrained. Really nice fresh rum, mostly in the opening.
The opening is the best part for me, with the fresh rum, but the rum lasts for 30 minutes and fades fast.
The mid is mostly a chocolaty tobacco, where it is like TF Tobacco Vanilla, but less gourmand.
I was hoping for a more prominent vanilla note here, but it's in the background. The cacao and tobacco are more evident.

This is very very dark and resinous Oriental. It reminded me most of some Nasomatto fragrances, like Pardon, Baronda, or even some Black Afgano! Or Taur Desert Moroccan.

So now I understand some of the reviews that said, this is very MEDECINAL! Or Eugene said on "U smell good" YouTube channel,
this is very NICHE! I thought he meant niche in quality, but no; he obviously meant niche as, NOT mainstream at all...

So this does not feel like overly gourmand.
It's a dark Oriental, and the slightly sweet gourmand aspects balance out the oud, Amber and incense. It is yummy and sweet also, but more wearable than TF Tobacco Vanilla.

It has a very good, rather prominent tobacco note. And the booziness is not too much, nicely in balance.
The dry-down is Oud/ incense, cacao, and floral notes.

I would rather have this than Kilian "Back to Black". It's more mature and sophisticated, less sweet and boozy, better tobacco note.

I returned to this a few months after I last tried it and I found myself not having changed my slant on it after all this time. The boozy-amber, along with other sweetened elements, really make this scent a joy to sniff. But, the (white) elephant in the room is how much other scents also fall into the trope parameters. Scents that I like a little more, and scents that suit me and who I am.
If push came to shove, I'd award this 8.5 / 10, but you know, I have dozens of 9.0 / 10 scents on my bookshelf, untouched, gathering dust. It's a cut-throat business, this scent game, and it's little things like this that either make or break a potential sale...

clo2005

very spicy, don't get much gourmand or vanilla but i get a hint of cacao with rum and it makes me imagine walking into a cuban bar with cigars and it's very sexy in that sense, a bit incensey as well i think because of the spices

butterbean

The scent is soo good for Fall. I LOVE!

The tobacco is strong at first. Smoky almost herbal but mellows with the blend of rum, vanilla, cacao. I notice the dried fruits mostly at first (I think that is what is giving off the "herbal" like note). The scent really melts into this yummy tobacco vanilla chocolate w/ rum undertones. It is really fab.

SalivatingSoul-stice

Fine fragrance! Smells like herod with a slight animalic opening but I would go with herod because of it's price point and you get more juice!

TobaccoSense

Begins with a delicious gourmand dark chocolate with an ever so slight herbal touch. Lots of sweet Vanilla and good dosage of tobacco. Rum is in there but gets a bit lost in the mix I find. Its composition seems like it borrows inspiration from Red tobacco and TF Tobacco Oud, minus the oud of course. Slightly powdery which makes it lean feminine IMHO. A must try if your a lover of tobacco scents. This fragrance is almost, or just as much about vanilla as it is tobacco, so the sweetness plays a big part. Fall/Winter

rayt

Ok, I just sprayed from a decant, and 2 fragrances Immediately came to mind, and unfortunately I don't like either. Tobacco Oud and Dior Eau Noire?
This definitely smells "niche", but I dunno, that licorice smell, or Oud is the main note I smell. I think this is gonna be one that smells a whole lot better in the air rather than nose to skin. It's starting to smell better as it's drying down. Definitely not a love at first sniff, but I can see this growing on me! Can't comment on Longevity or projection just yet... definitely interesting!

*edit*
Dammit, after spending more time with this, Im afraid I'm gonna be looking for a full bottle! A must try for boozy tobacco lovers!

PerfumeKick

I will get a lot of nag for this but this is basic dark vanilla done well. It is absolutely not a bad thing Vanilla has many facets and all are shown in this scent. It has bugspray opening but after 5 minutes it melts and changes shifting towards more boozy component, interchanging later into more mature smokey kind. Job well done, price is ouch

brokesta911

Les Indemodables Vanille Havane (2020) - cocoa tobacco - This #antoinelie creation was teetering on richness vs. balance. Starts with a boozy note of Rum steeped with dried fruit (prunes, apricots), Patchouli and cocoa powder. Then, it transitions to a realistic Tobacco accord (dried leaf, burning yet sweet) mixed with a high-quality Vanilla. I also get Leathery and amber-like facets. Yet, the balancing act isn’t what you immediately smell, but what you don’t. For in the hands of a beginner perfumer, this would have been too rich or clunky. The tobacco-vanilla-cocoa accord would have been fit for a room than a person, if done incorrectly. Upon research, I have found my answer - Jasmine was added. It lends itself to mesh on human skin and create that needed balance by rounding off sharper notes. bravo and one of the best Vanilla-Tobacco scents available!

RisingChaos

Opens with a boozy, dry tobacco leaf underlaid with a healthy dose of warm, rich chocolate and vanilla. Moderately sweet at first, after 30 minutes dries down to include a prominent amber accord and a suede leather that comes in to seamlessly replace the fuzzy, powdered tobacco touch. I'm not a huge tobacco fan but this stuff is fantastic. The vanilla and chocolate are bit players that play into the syrupy sweet base, with rum and tobacco accords being most dominant. Moderate-strong projection for 2-3hr, longevity 8-10hr.

The official note breakdown is only vanilla, cocoa, plus jasmine and I gotta be honest, I don't know how they came up with this nothingburger of a note breakdown. There's obviously way more going on here.

NOSEYBODY

With Vanille Havane I was immediately hit with a blast of what smelled like authentic Cognac. Hennessy to be exact. I know the note is Rum, but it smells like Hennessy to my nose.

That scent lingered for almost 10 full minutes & filled the air around me.

I then began to notice a soft, yet very pungent Tobacco note. As the seconds passed that Tobacco note became just as loud as the booze.

Creeping in third came a dark, dry bitter Cacao, that over a few seconds became just as loud as the first two notes.

The Booze, Tobacco, & Cacao were screaming, but neither were trying to compete for dominance. Which for me is proof of Masterful Blending.

The fragrance held that composition for 30 minutes or so, & then i began to pick up on two things.

One was the subtle nuance of Coca Cola, & the other was reminiscent of Slumberhouse Jeke (discontinued) but without the smoky Cade Oil note.

The Cola nuance became a tad louder & mixed well with the Booze. However, it wasnt at all similar to the Booze/Cola nuance in Roja Enigma, because underneath it all was still that lingering nuance of Jeke.

Two hours in it began to smell more like Jeke, but with added notes of Hennessy, & Cinnamon.

After that i began to pick up notes of strong Vanilla Extract with Booze & Cinnamon. And the fragrance stayed this way on fabric for the rest of its life.

ON SKIN:

I tried Vanille Havane on skin & got a blast of boozy Vanilla Extract, Cinnamon, Clove, & Fruit Compote.

The booze wasnt acting as a stand alone note like it did on Fabric, nor did it smell like Hennessy. It just added a Boozy nuance to the Vanilla.

The smell of Boozy Vanilla & Spices was like Heaven to my nose.

After that i was met with the slow progression of pungent Tobacco immediately followed by a subtle Cacao.

On skin i didnt notice the Coca Cola nuance although my wife & kids all said they smelled Cola.

After an hour on my skin the composition turned into a Boozy, Vanillic, Cinnamon laced version of Slumberhouse Jeke.

The fragrance stayed this way to its end, which was about 8 hours.

The performance varied.

On fabric i got very strong performance. I got about 3 hours of strong projection with it becoming moderate at the 4th hour.

The Silage trail on fabric was great as well. It gave great Silage 10 hours after it was applied. My family continued to smell the fragrance long after i couldnt. However, the next morning i did catch subtle wafts as the air in the room shifted.

Overall, on Fabric VH lasted more than 72 hours.

On skin performance was average. I literally got just over an hour of projection. But the Silage was above average for an entire 6 hours. It lasted on skin a full 8 hours.

I noticed that as long as i was moving around the fragrance would be noticed in the air. For the last two hours i got a really strong skin scent.

Needless to say Vanille Havane is a love for me, & i immediately ordered two 50ml bottles.

I enjoyed everything about it, but i enjoyed its performance better on fabric than i did on skin. Which isnt an issue because i'm a clothes sprayer anyway.

My application for Vanille Havane will be 10 sprays. 4 on skin & 6 on clothes. I want to BEAST of this fantastic juice.

I would not recommend blind buying this fragrance unless you really love the smell of Hennessy, pungent animalic Tobacco, & or are familiar with Slumberhouse Jeke.

Overall Vanille Havane is syrupy like a rich Amber, yet at the same time dry, spicy, & mildly animalistic.

Because Slumberhouse has discontinued Jeke, for those who have never smelled it , unfortunately, you will have no way to compare the two.

But there are other fragrances that share its qualities. Which are:

Tom Ford Amber Absolute & Tobacco Oud, Dior Mitzah, Tauer L'Air Du Desert Marocain, Replica Whispers In The Library, & Amouage Fate Man.

They all share something in common with each other, as well as with Vanille Havane.

Which are spices that come off dry & dusty like an old Attic or an old Library, & Amber.

Enjoy.

evarosa

This one gets so much love but for me it was a fail. The scent is too dense with woods and cacao. I don't wear this type of fragrances but do appreciate them on others, but this just feels suffocating.

muzzbait

I got the discovery set, mostly because of the hype (as well as a few highly respected fragheads bigging the brand up), and this was the one that got most people raving.
After trying it, I was really taken by how sweet-resinous it was, but it reminded me heavily of a few other scents in this scent trope, namely Oajan, Angels' Share as well as others that escape me.
It is boozy and tobaccy, but it's the amber that does it for me. The amber is the star. I'm not sure I would buy this, but I'd definitely wear it, I would say. Definitely worth a try...

ScentFan2021

It smells really nice, but I think I'd prefer this as a candle or something. That being said, I also tend to love very feminine scents, and this one is not listed as such. It is good and high-quality. Projection = good and lasting power = excellent.

Balushi

One of the best sweet tobacco fragrances in the market in my opinion. Vanille Havane opens with booze and cacao that smells like the real absolute with coffee like bitterness. The opening is rich and dense, there are no light top notes. Once the boozy accord fades away, the fragrance turns into a Chocolate Chip Banana Bread topped with raisin. This is the gourmand phase of the fragrance (I feel that the ylang-ylang is the source of the banana like note). The fragrance later moves to a rich vanilla and a beautifully presented bitter dry tobacco phase with hints of spices, I detect cloves and hot cinnamon. A leather accord appears in the late drydown and its combination with vanilla centered amber accord is what I mainly get in the drydown.

alanwake

Wonderful tobacco note. The rest of the fragrance, however, is too sweet and cloying for my liking. A quality house without a doubt, but unfortunately most tobacco scents are taken over by sweet notes, this one is no exception.

Kronstadt

Wow! Vanille Havane by Les Indemodables is an absolute monster of the gourmand world. Chocolate (or cacao more precisely), vanilla, and rum combined with a bolshie tobacco and decadent dried fruit. This is a sweet gourmand lovers delight. But be warned. It doesn’t play. Completely unisex and perfect for someone who loves Montale’s Intense Cafe but wants to push the relationship to the next level. It doesn’t smell like Intense Cafe, don’t get me wrong, but boy does it take that concept and push the volume to 11. Roja’s Enigma is maybe the closest I’ve experienced. Maybe. Antoine Lie is a master chef of the gourmand fragrance world.

On my skin I get a dry smokey tobacco with some vanilla and very subtle rum.
I also get a barnyard hay characteristic.
Dry down is an amber tobacco.
Quite expensive, so definitely sample first.

cwavah

Ordered a sample from lucky scents ... its a great fragrance .. get a mix of spice , sweetness and the rum in the opening .... tobacco also present , but dorminantly spice and dried fruits in the opening ... However being that its a sample , it doesnt rest the same like a sprayer

Carpe Noctem

I have to agree with the person below me. I really smell a barnyard oud in here and since oud is my arch nemesis, that took over everything. When I ordered the sample I thought for sure I'd be buying a full bottle, but didn't see oud mentioned anywhere. I thought I'd be getting a beautiful rum and vanilla perfume with delicious tobacco because of the reviews online.

Oh well. C’est la vie.

dabearjew82

Trying from a sample from luckyscent collection, and I know sometimes it doesn't rest the same from a sampler. Maybe it's over-riped fruits but I got a very animalic whiff up top. Almost thought there was a barnyard oud in there. But no one else has said this in the reviews so I guess my nose is playing jokes on me. Also, vanilla and myself aren't friends so this isn't my kind of frag. However, I like it, the tobacco and rum play nice against the vanilla. Kind of how it does in tobacco Mandarin by byredo. If you like this but find it animalic or too prominent a vanilla note yet that one I love it.

Update: vanilla strikes again. After 30 minutes is just cloying vanilla. Hard pass

Claude dirte

Opens with an ambery chocolate and settles into something delectable. It's like biting into one of the finest chocolate liquors with fruit. It's easiest for me to imagine as a dark, Luxardo maraschino cherry on the inside. Strong performance and longevity, great sillage. Probably would not touch this is warm weather 8.5/10.

gtabasso

really like this one! chocolate pipe tobacco with some booze and amber; not fruity but sweet

GiannisP

Wow, this is beautiful! It has the usual sweet tobacco dna like a lot of fragrances in that style but it's unique at the same time. This is so well blended, smooth and high quality. It has a cacao/dark chocolate and rum aspect that difference this from the others. The sweet aspects of the fragrance like the vanilla, the caramelized fruits and the cacao are in contrast with some smokey dark elements from tobacco and some smooth booziness from the rum. It has some nuances from other sweet tobacco fragrances but not a direct similarity with one of them.

Performances is good, this is not a beast in longevity or projection but it's above average. It doesn't scream, it's smooth and you will get some amazing whiffs! Great for the cold weather and versatile enough but in my opinion this will shine on a date. Overall, i love this fragrance but i think that it's overpriced. In this style of fragrances there are a lot of heavy hitters in better prices. Is this the best sweet tobacco scent? I am not sure but it's definitely in my top 3 (with Herod and TV).

Hellenic Perfumology

THIS IS INCREDIBLE!

Such an amazing composition! First of all! When you spray this you can tell its Quality! Your hand will remain oily for hours! DO NOT SPRAY ON CLOTHES!

On the fragrance itself! This is a tad bit dirty! BUT! Its Amazing! It gives character to the Tobacco! Vanilla! Cacao! Booze!

Making this a fragrance which can easily be compared to: Feve Deliceuse, Tobacco Vanille

BUT! This is way more complex on its structure! And let me say! way higher Quality!

IMO RELEASE OF THE LAST YEAR!

PURE 10!

This stuff is amazing! No number of sniffs are enough sniffs. I blind bought this after seeing it on YT channel “Smelling Great Fragrance Reviews” and I am so glad I did.

That dark chocolate note mixed with tobacco and alcohol is done to perfection. The whole scent profile is very thick but refined and so pleasing. It reminds me of a drink I had in Medellin Colombia. I never had a drink like this, it was chocolatey, vanilla-ey and had some type of alcohol I never heard of. It was STRONG! I remember this specifically, because 98% of the time I drink scotch/whiskey neat, but the bar tender insisted over and over that we try it.

Only had this fragrance for couple of weeks and I wore this at home 5-6 days in a row. Maybe it is the honeymoon phase, but this is a GREAT fragrance IMO.

Ettescent

This is a lovely amber, vanilla, warm spicy, soft tobacco scent. At first sniff, I found myself strongly reminded of several of HG favs like Dior’s Mitzah, Ambre Russe, Royal Crown Noor and MDCI Les Indes des Galantes.

All of these and VH have a simmering cinnamon/warm spicy amber vanilla vibe. VH is maybe the darker older brother of Ani? Ambre Sultans cousin who smokes cigars? If u like these u will prob like VH. The tobacco is present but well balanced w the other notes. To my nose, VH is more of a vanilla-amber w tobacco. And the tobacco note is dark and dry, not wet or green.

As the scent develops the warm spices and dried fruits compliment the vanilla, amber and tobacco. The notes remind me of fall, sipping a hot sweet and spicy bev next to a wood fire.

While not entirely original, which is almost impossible in this crowded scent profile, VH is super yummy. Intoxicating, mysterious, come hither sexy unisex frag. I could c someone wearing this on a date or to a biz meeting when he/she wants to stand out against the lightweights. Moderate performer. Fairly expensive per ounce. Happy to have a FB.

Vanille havane is certainly a pleasant, high quality, and well done fragrance. It does however feel like an outlier compared to the rest of the les indemodables line, which is filled with unique and innovative creations. The market is already flooded with good sweet tobacco scents, and I’m not sure this one does anything above and beyond within this genre to warrant the price tag.

In my opinion, the brand set the bar high with their other creations. While I certainly don’t love all of them, they are far more interesting than vanille havane, which unfortunately feels like the money grab of the line

Variable01

This is the perfect tobacco, vanilla, booze combination I've ever come across. It's more versatile and applicable to younger people than Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille. I blew through my 5ml sample in a few days and had to buy a full bottle on lucky scent, luckily I had a nice promo code as this fragrance is really expensive for a 50ml.

SweetBriar

Amber and dark cacao. It almost reminded me of banana at first, then a dark chocolate banana smoothie, then almost morphed into a softer version of Amouage Memoir mixed with TF Tobacco Vanille

JustScents

Well, well....this is quite the amazing fragrance. I have really been gettin into darker tobacco like fragrances. This reminds me of a smoothed out Plum Japonais by Tom Ford, with superior ingredients, so well blended. The first minute or two is kinda strange, but then dries down to this really beautiful dark resinous concoction. I can smell the dried fruits a hint of chocolate, spices, with tobacco in background. It is dense and heavy, but is not really a beast mode fragrance. Lasted me over 8 hours. Took a shower and could still faintly smell it on my wrist. I blind bought this and am really happy with my purchase. I dont think this is blind buy safe, unless you know you like these notes. Its just a very intriguing warm scent, not sticky, more on the dry side. One of my favorites in my collection now. I do not think it will be for everyone, it is def very niche. My wife does like this on me and she is pretty picky. I would give this a 9.5/10. Will buy a bottle again once I run out.

humean

Well, shoot. I love this. I was hoping I wouldn't because of the price tag, but alas... I have tried many, many fragrances focusing on tobacco and quite a few on vanilla as well - my favorite combination of the two notes was Tauerville Vanilla Flash but is now Slumberhouse Jeke (though its vanilla is subtle and mercurial). I also enjoy layering tobacco and vanilla scents, which has led to some lovely discoveries (an easy one is TF Tobacco Oud + Vanilla Flash).

Despite all this, I have never smelled anything like Vanille Havane. The dry and somewhat bitter vanilla is incredible, especially in combination with one of the best earthy tobacco leaf notes I've ever tried. The cacao, rum, and dried fruit are in the background warming things up and making this even more addictive.

While Jeke is still the king of rustic & animalic tobacco fragrances, this destroys the competition in the realm of tobacco-vanilla combinations. Projection is moderate and longevity is good.

Sigh, I guess I'm going to have to buy it...

Bubbles1964

This is a scent that confirms why I enjoy discovering new fragrances: I can smell every note listed. A beautiful, sweet but dry tobacco driven scent, warmed up with vanilla, rum, dried fruits, leather and chocolate. The overall feeling is of decadence.

Vanille Havane is more masculine leaning than Mona di Orio's Vanille, the latter I own and find more wearable as a woman. A gorgeous, natural vanilla tips the scales here and I’m voting love for Vanille Havane. If you want to smell like a million bucks, this is what you wear.

e2less

Just drained my sample. This is bar far the best tobacco based fragrance. The notes are well blended with rum, vanilla, chocolates, fruits and a woody amber ... very boozy. I was getting whiffs from my sample all day. I own many tobacco based fragrances and this one will definitely be in my collection. Simple amazing!

seekritdude

So this one on paper smells different than my skin.. Lately when this has happened generally the fragrance has smelled better on paper than skin, but this one was thankfully smelled better on skin...

On paper, it's not quite as dark, it's "more" floral, "more" fruity, and the opening is more boozy.

On my skin, I don't normally use the word medicinal for reviews, but instead of smelling boozy and syrupy, this one is like being forced to drink some really bad cherry cough syrup, and that while you are trying to force this down your throat, someone sticks a piece of chocolate down your mouth, and you're getting chocolate and really bad medicine cabinet sorta cherry tastes in your mouth that reminds me of being a kid when your sick and your forcing yourself to drink this stuff.

Thankfully, for me this opening only lasts maybe 5 mins or so. And then, this terrible medicine did the trick apparently. And you feel relaxed as you get tobacco, vanilla, chocolate, and dried fruits. Saying that, you'd think of something like tobacco vanille I think.. but this is not gooey like that. This has a more harsh and smokey facet, more dried fruit, with just a shot of booze.

Really not a big fan of the opening, on paper or skin. But thankfully on me at least the opening is very short lived. For the comparisons to enigma, you know when I smell this, I never once thought of enigma, but for shits and giggles I did go back and smell enigma later on.. and you know, I guess I sorta in some world can see that. Enigma is more fizzy, froth, sorta light color boozy I imagine in my mind, and this is much much darker of course. So again although I dont think these smell alike I guess if you put a gun to my head, I sorta in a weird way can see it even though at first hand it seemed like a stretch.

Again really dont like the opening, but its so short on me im almost tempted to pick up a decant

jreily88

I just had to make another point because although the concept of this fragrance is very straightforward, the smell itself is anything but simplistic and I feel it gives me different vibes every time I wear it. I certainly get Enigma vibes from this with the very smooth and slightly spicy boozy rum opening. However, the dense cocoa and dried fruits smell reminds me of another fragrance that I’m surprised no one has mentioned...Black Orchid.

SearchingScents

I just have to comment on this one because its just boozy gourmand nirvana! And it's winning me over. This is one of those fragrances you get and you're like "I can't wait 'till tomorrow to wear this out!".

In honesty when I first got my sample set and tested these all out I was very disappointed in how many of them smelled - and performed ugh... - but I persevered with the testing on skin. A note about these before you try - in my experience these are some of the lightest and airy niche scents I've smelled but definitely a bit denser than Atelier Cologne and they seem to have trouble bounding off skin, generally sitting closer. Thankfully, Vanille Havane and three others that I enjoy from this house do not have this performance issue.

I also feel that Vanille Havane and Chypre Azural are the most unique and detached from the other offerings that to my nose minimize the signature sweet baby powder or talcum powderiness from the Les Indémodables line that makes me somewhat uncomfortable as a male wearing them. I cannot recommend the whole line because performance and to a lesser extent scent profile for me are the issues - but all the scents smell smooth and of quality there is no doubt here. This is just my favorite!

In the opening Vanille Havane is a hot and fluffy cinnamon roll with Bailey's Irish cream drizzled on top of it. Later in the drydown it smells like wet leather and damp tobacco leaves drying on a wire while the malted booziness continues to exist coating the atmosphere of the profile perfectly. The scent is really smooth and contains a smokey and burnt, earthy sweetness indicative of charred wood that makes it a very mature gourmand that is ageless but still shows sophistication. The smokey vanilla with caramel nuance drifts through the air quite pleasantly. I still pick it up two hours into wearing but projection is intimate.

To me it does not smell like Creation-E/Enigma Parfum Cologne - I am testing side by side - To me its just something new. But so far Vanille Havane smells of better quality and better blending, a more realistic gourmand than the Roja. My wallet thanks me... The Roja is sharp and stumbles through its transitions distractingly. I smell sharp booze at the top of Enigma then it can't decide whether it wants to be a powdery floral bomb or a flat peppery coca-cola which results in "designer static" chemical harshness to my nose which makes it water. Ouch!

A Cinnamon roll garnished with bailey's sounds like a good option tonight...
10/10

vanilla extract, high percentage cacao, & a fine cigar
3-4 sprays, medium to strong projection, lasts several hours
the next morning the base smells very similar to the sweet tolu balsam used in chypre palatin
a strong like

gunmetal24

I adore this and have purchased a bottle after draining my sample. I tend to like most vanilla perfumes but what elevated this for me is its intense richness and complexity giving a fuller experience. I experience additional facets of rum, a banana-flambe like effect and smokiness. Its does veer of the usual Les Indemodables style of lightness and simplicity. This one is just bigger and richer overall. I have mentioned this to the owner that it reminds me of old school Serge Lutens, not their perfume compositions but more like an accord here and there. Perhaps there's some similarities in terms of 'dry fruit accords', 'rum accords'. If you like old school operatic amber Serge Lutens scent this might also be your jam. Longevity and projection is very good for a Les Indemodables on skin (on clothes it never leaves).

Vanille Havane moved straight up on my "Pirate of the 7 Seas" list. Mona di Orio's Vanille, which others have pointed out as similar, happens to be on that list too. But when Vanille take the route via the hazardous waters of Kapp Horn, Vanille Havane is relaxing with a glass of the finest rum and a cigar. A bit sweeter then Vanille and not that heavy on the woods. Breezier in a way. Also, I love that hint of dried fruits that whiffs along all the way.
In fact, Vanille Havane reminds me of one of my grandfathers who sailed for many years. Always elegantly dressed,( think Marlon Brando), with tattoos and bejewelled rings. He had a very elegant box of cigars that he opened now and then. Very nice memories and this perfume reminds me of him.

My boyfriend bought a sample size of this fragrance and he absolutely loves it. I’m starting to grow to love it as well and can’t stop sniffing him. It’s just very complex and reminds me of something initio would make. It smells like a boozy vanilla extract but when it dries down it develops into this warm spiced gourmand scent. My boyfriend wears tobacco vanille by Tom Ford right now but I could see this becoming his new scent. It’s just a bit more interesting and spicy.

Allisonmsmith22

I totally agree with whoever put this as being similar to Enigma Pour Homme, at least in the drydown. I don't like the opening. It's sweet and gives me a bubblegum vibe with vanilla and chocolate. The drydown is lovely. Opening aside, I actually prefer this to Enigma. It feels more warm and deep, yet also wearable. I will thoroughly enjoy my sample, but I don't think I'll be dropping $$ for a full bottle.

Kristen_Marie183

This to me smells SO similar to Initio's Side Effect. I have them both on my skin right now side effect has more of a leathery dry down and it's MUCH more potent than this. Vanille Havane is softer and not near as harsh and loud as Side Effect it's more boozy vanilla tobacco where as side effect is more spicy leather tobacco. I also have Black Pantom on my other arm I don't think they are comparable, Black Phantom is weak compared to this one and BP has that peanut butter opening this is not going that way at all to me. I also compred it to Insomnia by Faviol Seferi and it's pretty close to that one as well but that one is WAY sweeter and syrupy, that one is a boozy cocoa caramel not really much tobacco. I really like all four that I talked about but if I was going to buy a full bottle of one I think it would be this one Vanille Havane the price is sort of crazy but this lasts and you don't need much so worth it for some if this sounds like what you are after specifically.

parispeach

@jreily88 The cocoa is strong. Sometimes it comes across more boozy, other time’s more cocoa, and then it can be quite ambery and vaniliac. It’s strange. I thought initially it was quite linear but every time I wear it I experience different things. This is a good thing. It’s more complex than I originally thought. I’ve heard others use Black Phantom as a reference but I don’t get that. Today I wore it and it came off like Intoxicated or Amen In the very late phase of the dry down. I don’t know what the hell is going on 😂

jreily88

paris, yeah after smelling it a few more times, I'm actually not sure why I thought of Black Phantom the first time I smelled it. Perhaps it was the cocoa but now that I think about it, the two are really nothing alike. Perhaps Back to Black is more accurate. Indeed an amazing fragrance and well worth the price.

parispeach

Wow this is an amazing fragrance. It’s definitely got Roja Enigma vibes. I don’t any get Black Phantom like the previous post mentions. That is just a nutty coffee fragrance to me. If I had to compare fragrances, I would say it’s kind of a hybrid between Back to Black and Enigma. The cola vibe is replaced with cocoa, the booziness is darker and more resinous with the ambery touches. The tobacco Is beautiful. Subtle but consistently there throughout the development of the fragrance. It’s not a sweet tobacco more or a dry tobacco as previously mentioned. The sweetness feels like dried fruits soaked in brandy with a very mature vanilla that’s not like your typical sweet vanilla dry down.

This is the type of sweetness I like in a fragrance. It’s very classy and done to perfection. If you like Enigma, Back to Black and Mona Di Orio Vanille, you will love this.

Longevity, silage, and projection are all good. I would say moderate to slight above moderate. It’s not a beast mode, in your face fragrance as you would expect from the comparisons that are mentioned. Performance is the same realm as those fragrances.

Full bottle worthy 100 percent.

jreily88

Starts off with a boozy rum and cocoa opening. Fragrantica describes the opening of this as a combination of Roja Dove's Enigma and Kilian's Back to Black. To me, it's smells like a combination of Enigma and Black Phantom. The rum is not overpowering or too sweet, it's actually very smooth, almost as if I'm smelling dark chocolate that is soaking in dark rum and it's absorbing the different flavors and nuances of the rum. The vanilla is very smooth and resinous, there's some dry tobacco in the background and the leather is very smooth as well and helps to provide backbone to the scent to prevent it from becoming too cloyingly sweet. Overall an absolute winner from this house and one I highly recommend sampling if you like boozy/gourmand scents.
