Very much sandalwood, not of my favorite type either, with sweet vanilla and a white musk dry down. It gets really perfume-y for a minute, then dries to a gentler sandalwood incense feel with a suggestion of makeup bag, or possibly the musk and sandal are reminding me of the smell of cover makeup from the 80s. Full dry down has a chocolatey feel. Nice, but the perfume-y bit is too much for me, just a bit loud and shrill at that stage.

A low key spicy vanilla with an edge of sweet, very woody, oh yes the incense...hellooo..it's just right, setting a background tone.....becomes slightly powdery (which isn't my favorite type of scent), but no matter, the sandalwood and wood notes reign here with the incense hovering. For the first time I'm enjoying a non-sweet vanilla that isn't overloaded with musks (which also is my least favorite note!) It is cozy and a very "quiet luxury" type of fragrance-- think Van Cleef & Arpels scents...most especially Bois D'Iris in terms of experience.

mhaela_mn

Sweet and sour caramel sandalwood cream. There are some spices inside, but not incense. For me, although it's slightly powdery and creamy, it' not comforting, but a bit screechy, probably my nose is sensible to some artificial notes. This is closer to a room spray than to niche perfumes.

TatianaChoco

Beautiful woody-spicy vanilla, cosy, warm, reminds me perfumes from 90's - but in a good way, I like it so much. It stays close to the skin.

this is gorgeous but depending on your bottle, it could take some time for the scent to really mature. at first the incense blast of sandalwood smoke in the opening took quite a while to dry down to the spiced vanilla caramel and woodsiness, but some months on, the buttery toffee sweetness has gotten bolder and the incense has settled back into a balanced, cozy, warm scent with a faint backbone of clean musk. The sandalwood note is this is creamy and almost chocolatey. Linear and round with fantastic longevity and arm's length projection. Worth the wait imo, will by my fall signature this year.

I have a few Reminiscence scents and they all took some maturing time (tonka took at least 6 months for the vanilla to really develop!) but when they get there, they're well balanced, nuanced, high quality and a little off the beaten path.

Very nice. Warm cosy soft vanilla woods. Often woody perfumes can lean rather masculine but this has a gentle sweet vanilla that makes it lean slightly feminine to my nose (not so much that a guy couldn't wear it perfectly fine, but not so much that it smells like aftershave). The woods are softer sandalwood and cashmeran (which is not a wood anyway, and always smells more like wool or old velvet to me)

ievajas

I can't detect caramel in the opening. All I get is an incense smell.

This was a risky blind buy for me, considering I wasn't a fan of Le Labo's Santal 33 at all. I thought the sandalwood note in here might also make me dislike this one, but I took a chance because the price was right. I'm not disappointed. It's a nice take on a vanilla fragrance, where the wood notes make it more complex (and less gourmand) than typical super sweet vanilla scents. This is really enjoyable. Not a safe blind buy if you are looking for really sweet vanilla, but otherwise not too risky if you buy if for a good price on one of the discount frag sites.

JayR79

Spicy vanilla and caramel, it's good if you're into vanilla.

AlaskanAngel

Nice! Real nice. Not at all gourmand, if you're looking for that you'll be disappointed. I find no individual spices whatsoever,
the feel of them just adds warmth. This is a very warm, semisweet sandalwood and vanilla. (Thankfully, no hint of that dreaded dill note that sandalwood can have sometimes.)

This is remarkably similar to JHAG SunnySideUp. This is slightly dryer, a tad less sweet, the musk isn't as noticeable but the sandalwood/woodiness is stronger. And obviously, this has no coconut. Although, I bet that most people wouldn't be able to tell them apart unless comparing them side-by-side. I prefer this, especially for work. I find it more professional.

Another great thing is that this is ridiculously cheap, l paid $28. Also, I much prefer this bottle to the white and yellow one of SSU! I hate bright colors. This bottle is classy, minimalist with a concave curve across the front that is very pleasing. Even the cap on this is solid, weighty. This whole fragrance feels more expensive than it is. Well, Done!

Review of full bottle blind-buy.

I really like sweet gourmet caramel flavors etc. But for this one it does not pass at all, I was tempted for the "vanilla" in the name but it is not the vanilla I imagined. We smell too much sandalwood

A nice incese-vanilla fragrance. Long lasting, medium projection. Very close to Boucheron Jaipur Homme. Good value for money. 18-20 Euro at discounters.

V3ronica

This is like a vanille candle and a indian incense, warm and discreet.
Need to be sprayed about 10x for feeling it, because this does not have a big projection.
In the time on an inspiration, first this is 30% warm vanilla, second 60% incense/sandal and thirt the rest of 10% is wood.
The image of this smell reminds me of a sweet soap inside a drawer or... the biscuit cone of an icecream.
When you dont know what to wear...this one is there. Sometimes i feel this is a special fragrance, sometimes i wonder what others think about this perfume on me, maybe i am strange, maybe i am indian or oriental lady...

Yeah so I’m not a professional or super into scents so to my average nose it’s smells like grandma.

I sprayed it on myself to test how it reacted to my skin and wow that smell LASTS.
I sprayed it on the previous night and today all throughout work I kept catching whiffs of it.

It smells warm underneath the sweet sickliness but that wasn’t enough to convince me too keep it.
I gifted it to my grandmother and she loved it so do with that what you will.

In my opinion it's a lovely soft comforting fragrance which is perfect for autumn months. Mostly if u prefer lighter, powderly-creamy woody vanilla accords more then the heavier, more spicyer line. It's linear, but nice. U get what u imagine about this fragrance from the name & the notes. Smoky slightly milky sandal wood which is bit burned & sweet ( because of the caramel) with musky-powderly warm cahsmere what leans on a not too deep creamy vanille. It's has a light creamy side too but this vanille has a bit more powderly woody-dry side as the scent of the papers in antique books. And for the top there's some added spices which give some warmer vibe into the composition. For me it's a "light colored" comforting fall fragrance. Anearly-middle fall cashmere-wool or knitted wear scent, which is light, creamy coloured.( ivory, cream, nude, pastel smokey brown) I see a delicate, chic faded beige blonde haired girl who who wears a very cozy ivory cashmere sweater, the underweared shirwaist's collar are fold out on to the sweater neck. For this she wears a little checkerd pleated skirt with thight/knee socks & mary jane shoes. One of her hands she holds an oldschool briefcase, in the other she hold a a book, and she walks into the library to studying.

Blind bought due to a decent price (£30 for 100ml), few reviews, and a love of vanilla, sandalwood and warm spicy scents.

It’s a good job the bottle is huge, as the fragrance isn’t, and you need to spray a good 10 sprays if you want projection. I sprayed it 3 hours ago, and while it’s still strong on my clothes, I have to put my nose to my arm to smell it on my skin. I’d think it’s impossible to overspray this! It gives more of a soft warmth around you than huge projection, very cozy.

Don’t get me wrong, it does smell lovely. A slightly woody vanilla with a spicy incense kick. I just wish it was stronger. But for the price, spraying a lot isn’t a problem!

I will probably wear this one before bed, and to spray my scarves and jumpers with as it’s that warm kind of comforting scent.

Edit: this is fast becoming one of my favourites. It’s absolutely the nicest drydown of any sandalwood I’ve tried. Delicious and woody and creamy. Just heavenly.

Edit again: this is now my FAVOURITE woody vanilla. I wear it every night to bed, and spray it all over my robe. It’s amazing. I’ve bought a back up bottle.

Cherry_Darling

Good quality sandalwood, not top shelf niche but close enough to really enjoy. I also get the waxy quality some describe and definitely has an Indian incense stick feel to it also. Must be the spices, although nothing distinctively strikes my nose just a blend of that rich incense stick smell. I'm also feeling (maybe imagining) some soft jasmine in here. Not too sweet but definitely gourmand category.

cumulnimbus

Sour caramel sandalwood velvety cream. Cashmere wood gives it a warm embracing effect which ends up into spicy vanilla. Pas mal pour le prix.

Darius HIldenbrandt

Very nice unisex perfume .gourmandes sweetness , where madagascar vanille and sandalwood create creamy warm sweet and sour composition, enriched with cashmere wood, spices , caramel, musk.

The name promises a lot of: longevity, sillage and some sweet memories. But when you try it, it smells really waxy ( like a perfumed candle) and very minimalistic, but not in a good way, rather the focus being the budget. It smells like some vanillic notes are mixed with some sandalwood burning sticks. It's not bad, but it does not develop on the skin, it does not get personality when being applied on skin, leaving just a residual smell. It's not totally bad, but for a name like Vanille Santal, this is insulting.

ilgattopardo

rather lovely, but should have been called ‚white musk, some vanilla & then some sandalwood’; very prominent white musk note, verging on washing powder or toilletries association; cosy and comforting I imagine if you like musk, but steer clear if you don’t - it’s unshakeable, persistent and overshadows titular vanilla and sandalwood; on overall quiet, pleasant and comforting, not in an indulgent gourmand way, but powdery and a bit generic, like high quality nondescript toilletries smell; linens in an upscale hotel could smell like this

CompassionLoveWisdom

This is basically what the name says, vanilla and sandalwood, it does not change over time, someone mentioned it smells like a scented candle, and it does, which is not a bad thing. I just happen to like more complex scents. Pretty good longevity for edt, I can smell it on myself after 4 to 5 hours with 3 sprays, and for the price it is worth it. If you like the smell of vanilla and sandalwood this is pretty safe blind by. Also good for layering, it can give a colder scents some warmth.

evapap181977

outstanding combination of the two ingredients.affordable but smells really expensive and excellent quality, performance and lasts long

Lucyana

I bought this perfume blindly. From the first spray I remembered that it resembles something ... It's almost identical to Adam Levine for women. I prefer it because it is "drier" while Adam Levine is sweeter and a little more floral. They really have almost the same notes. If I had known before, I wouldn't have bought it, because now I have two perfumes that are almost identical ... That's exactly what it says, vanilla and sandalwood. It smells a little like a scented candle, but it's nice. I will try it in the fall, at the moment it is nauseous because it is very hot outside. Completely unisex.
