Covet by Sarah Jessica Parker is a Floral Woody Musk fragrance for women. Covet was launched in 2007. Covet was created by Ann Gottlieb and Frank Voelkl. Top notes are Sicilian Lemon, Lavender, Dark Chocolate and Pelargonium Leaf; middle notes are Lily-of-the-Valley, Honeysuckle and Magnolia; base notes are Musk, Cashmere Wood, Teak Wood, Vetiver and Amber.

After launching two successful fragrances, the Sex and the City celebrity Sarah Jessica Parker has launched a new one. After Lovely, created in 2005, a fragrance that was supposed to express the light and tender side of her character, and Lovely Liquid Satin in 2006, she is now presenting the more aggressive and desirable Covet, a fragrance that captures impish and garrulous Sarah.

SJP's new fragrance was promoted on August 7, 2007 in NYC, at the Herald Square Macy's, under the slogan "I had to have it!" The perfume was created by Frank Vöelkl of Firmenich in collaboration with fragrance designer and consultant Ann Gottlieb. The bottle was designed by Chad Levigne.

Covet opens with intensive spicy-green-mint note of geranium leaves, bright and luminous Sicilian lemon, lavender, and warm and slightly spicy chocolate notes. The heart notes are honeysuckle, magnolia, and lily of the valley. The base is darker, composed of cashmere wood, musk, vetiver, teak wood and amber. It comes in 50 ml and 100 ml bottles, and with matching body products.

On the initial spray, I get the citruses and a little chocolate (like you've just unwrapped it) but what I was not expecting was how green this perfume is (which I'm not mad at). I'm not sure why the notes breakdown doesn't say how green it is. As it dries down I start to get floral qualities, I don't get woodiness.
That being said I can see how this is suited to transitional seasons like fall & winter. It can also be worn in summer but maybe with fewer sprays. To me, it isn't too heavy or too light and can be worn for many daytime occasions.

SnowIce

This is new scent for me. Very interesting, original and versatile. Sharp green beginning, then it turns into softer darker yummu. Delicious, but not for all occasions. This is quite artistic!

KateStefano

This is so obscure that you don’t know if you love or hate it, but you actually love it. I get a weird grass and chocolate scent when I wear it, which I know sounds ridiculous, but it works! Something about the fresh and creamy elements coming together. It isn’t a massive projector and it also doesn’t last, which makes me so sad because I love this for autumn-it’s kind of like autumn in a bottle to be honest. I wear it to bed a lot and to work but when I try wearing it on nights out, it just doesn’t boom like I want it too. It does smell far more expensive than what it is because of the usual combination of notes. I also really like the bottle, even though people think it’s cheap, it’s quite cute.

devaluxe

I am wearing this today on a dreary wet day and it’s perfect. I love layering this with Al Rehab’s Choco musk to really bring out the chocolate notes. I can’t get enough of this.

Tamijami79

This one smeals to me like a nice combination of D&G red cap and a little bit of TF soleil neige with a hint of a Cocoa powder. Complex and unique. Can not stop sniffing my arm.

ghoul333

this one takes u on a journey! really lemon-forward opening with the chocolate remaining pretty strong too thru the initial dry down. the lavender note plays nicely with both. it's kind of a green chocolate scent?? and then when it really dries down it becomes this lovely, sweet, slightly floral musky skin scent that is so comoforting. i got this on a whim bc someone was selling a full bottle secondhand for $10 and i'm so glad i went for it, i've never smelled anything like this. it's very fun and refreshing!

Scorpio Queen

Well, this is certainly different. Quite unique. The bottle is cute, and the colours remind of those chocolate and lime sweets you can buy. Interestingly enough, that's what I am smelling most of all with this perfume: Chocolate and lime, with a hint of lavender and musk. Now, walking around smelling like a confectionary shop is not what I'd usually go for but it's just so unusual and quirky, and I like it. I only have a sample but am tempted to buy a larger bottle of this: I must covet it at all costs lol. As a Christian, that was probably not a very wise thing to say. I will need to confess and repent later.

If you can get over the initial highly chemical, lemon cleaner smell in the opening, you are left with a gorgeous and distinctive scent. That musky dry-down is to die for!

Edit: I now have.a full bottle of the much coveted Covet in my possession lol. I was after the original (distributed by Coty) but what I received is distributed by the Lovely company. The juice inside the bottle is yellow and not green. Nonetheless, I smell no difference between the two formulations. Perhaps the longevity is a little less than the original and it's a lighter scent than that, also missing the harsh, lemon cleaner opening. This is a good thing, like another reviewer remarked, because it's easier to wear. It's not as strong (in a good way) which means it won't be as cloying to some. I realise after my review that this isn't an every day perfume for me like I hoped it would be. It can border on sickly, and every day use could make me tire of it quickly. I still like it very much though, it's distinct and unique, but will wear it for special occasions.

Goddess Essence

I have a few bottles of this stashed away big and small. I loved this when it first came out, though a friend of mine HATED it at the time. Anyhoo, I stocked up on these when I could because it smelled divine on ME and lasted quite well. It reminds me of a fragrance I grew up with called 'Emeraude' by Coty, a drugstore perfume many loved. Mom had it amongst her vast collection. To me Covet smells earthy green, lily and woody-warm. I wasn't aware of any 'chocolate' notes at the time, because on me it just smelled warm and green and woody. Definitely not gourmand. Used up a couple of the good size bottles already back then. Found some left in a purse sized bottle the other day I still love it. Its perfect for winter/ fall seasons imo. This also reminds me of Muguet Des Bois an old drugstore classic lilly-of-the-valley fume-long discontinued -that I also grew up around that my mother wore and I got to spray now and then. Just a very 'lovely' perfume by SJP.

thelittlethings24

Am on a perfume bender atm, and bought a second hand bottle this morning. Revisiting nostalgic scents - a friend from drama school wore this in 2008 and I remember wanting it, but having too many fragrances at the time. It has remained in my memory as a quirky, unique, amazing scent. SJP knows how to make them. I also love that it's rare to find it ATM, unlike in 07/08 when more people had it.

mirrorghost

i've been wanting to try this for awhile, and finally got my hands on some. it smells so familiar to me. i am not sure if its the reminiscence to jean nate or something else? anyhow it opens with lemon and soft florals, i think primarily lily and magnolia. the lavender shows up a bit later and is not overpowering at all. this is softly comforting. along comes a bit of woods and amber as lavender becomes stronger. primarily a lemon/magnolia with lavender and musk. i don't understand all the dislike for this scent, but maybe it's a skin chemistry thing. on me it's comforting and fairly soft. there is lemon but it's not overpowering. the chocolate is not readable as chocolate but just adds a background sweetness for me.

Why are Sarah Jessica Parker fragrances so clever? This is timeless and more than a little quirky! For me it is a true elixir of part magic spell, part fancy night out. The best grown up chocolate scent, but the chocolate note does take a while to make its appearance.

MCW7

This is a really good scent from Sarah, Jessica Parker! now if you happen to get the Coty version which was the first version, the opening is pretty screechy and kind of offensive. but when it dries down it’s delicious . The second version which is when Sarah, Jessica Parker bought the rights. She opened under the lovely fragrance company. This version much more pleasing. , but not quite as strong as the first version, but still the better of the two.. imo. to me it is a gourmand/fresh type of perfume.

Covet is a my go-to comfort scent. And it suits me all 4 seasons throughout the year. I’m wearing it today. The fog is heavy and the rain has finally subsided. I like her for days like this when the sky is gray and overcast with gothic undertones and the nostalgia kicks in. I was reminded of when I first received this perfume. I was looking for a unique gem, something outside the box, and at the time I was also experimenting with perfumes with chocolate notes because I learned that they almost always work out beautifully on me. So naturally Covet, and for the price, was an obvious choice. Upon receiving it, I took it to my bedroom. My daughter, who at the time was about 8 or 9 followed behind me and sat on my bed. I opened the box and pulled out the bottle and she was immediately intrigued at the green juice and jewel like cap. I let her hold it and admire it and then asked her to hand it over so I could test. And boy! Was I taken back upon first spray and not in a positive way. It was absolutely NOT what I was expecting at all. In my mind I was like what the hell is this? I was sadly disappointed. She could see it written all over my face. My daughter asked me, “What’s wrong… does it stink?” I said, “Well it definitely doesn’t smell like chocolate like they say it does.” “It’s supposed to smell like chocolate?” She asked. I said “Yeah” and handed her the bottle to smell for herself. She did not spray, but she curiously sniffed the nozzle and the cap a few times. A few moments went by as she happily sniffed away, then she turned to me and said, “But mom, it does! I smell it.” I reached for the bottle again,“Really?” I was shocked that her little nose was able to grasp what I couldn’t. I smelled from the bottle the same way she did. “Oh my goodness baby, you are right. It does!” What a happy surprise! We both laughed. How the hell was I so put off that I missed it? I suppose it was the pungent and polarizing first spray that assaulted my olfactory. She was absolutely right! And I was so proud of her and her little nose. I waited a bit for it to dry down on my skin and everything developed into a floral, chocolate, fluffy cloud. It did smell like chocolate and flowers, surrounded by warm musk, light spices, herbs and dark woods. I am so happy she was there with me to test it. Had she not been, I may have just tossed this beauty away. I have worn this perfume faithfully for years ever since. Now, my daughter knows me for this perfume. This is her mom scent. And I am happy she will forever associate it with me and me with it.

hwolfe7308

Bought this because I love the bottle, so chic. The scent to me is so-so. At first spray I am thinking lemon cleaner. However, it dries down to a nice comforting scent. I have to be in the mood for it, which frankly is not very often. To me, not nearly as good as Beautiful, which I use with abandon.

I must admit I didn’t love this fragrance on first try, but now that I’ve gotten to know her…

I’m surprised this has a rep of being so strange or off putting to people. I find this scent so comforting! I don’t even mind the aggressive opening, though I do understand the lemon disinfectant comparison. It’s short lived though and kinda invigorating! The fragrance evolves beautifully: earthy, green, sweet, enchanting but always fresh (borderline soapy but I don’t typically like soapy frags and still adore this) I think it’s a scent you wear for you. It’ll warm you up on a rainy day. Makes me think of spring time or early fall, carefree vibes, flowers in hand- perhaps exploring a farmers market.

Revisiting: to exclaim again about how this is somehow both warm and green! Also, recently I was reading in bed and got whiffs of pure chocolate. Like I straight up had the thought “uh oh is there some chocolate on my sheets because that will stain”.. then I realized it was my wrists. This is a special lil creation I so appreciate 🥹

Sometimes I wonder how much of my opinion of a fragrance based on declared “notes”. I guess a lot. I guess I don’t even know how all these notes smell in the nature to say anything at all. This fragrance eas blind bought because I got obsessed. Don’t know about you, but the notes and the bottle design just got to me. When I opened it fresh, it was not what I expected from it from the mentioned notes. It was way more like a shampoo fragrance. Like lemon soap. But I didn’t hate it.

From several wear tests I can say that it is lemon soap with the chocolate powder. If there is any lavender and lily of the valley, they are this soapy accord. Geranium is there, but so faintly, which I don’t mind because it can be overpowering. It is not sweet fragrance, but also not completely without sweetness. Very peculiar, lovely fragrance with shy performance. It is clean soapy fragrance with sweet lemon and dry chocolate. No age about it, tho it can appear as powdery scent, because it has chocolate POWDER, like dry smell. Do I hear it because I read the notes? Possible.

It is a cool, rainy morning in late September. I can feel the faint whisper of fall in the air after a hot summer. I am wearing Covet this morning, and it is perfect. I can only echo all of the favorable reviews below, with the caveat that if you purchase this expecting your usual run-of-the-mill, vanilla heavy, super sweet, semi sexy celebrity perfume you will be confused and perhaps disappointed. Covet is a little warm without being vanilla heavy, and yet, still a little lemony, woody, fresh, and spicy. It does remind me of Jean Nate, so I agree with that comparison in the "reminds me of" section. Covet is unique, and I am thoroughly enjoying it in my collection.

thistle

At first I wasn't sure but this scent has grown on me. It really is unique, and not what you'd expect from a celebrity perfume. It's really classy, definitely for older people (as in: I don't think a teenager would like this) - but really nice.

Edit: I have been wearing this out and about a lot and have gotten plenty of compliments. People couldn't believe it was a celebrity perfume.

fragrancefairy111

This perfume has a sharp opening with prominent notes being lavender and lemon, it’s definitely an older scent. When I smell this I envision someone in their 40s-50s. The dry down has a soapiness and smells of some resemblance to Dirham Silver by Ard Al Zaafaran as they share 8 of the same accords, however Dirham Silver is more seductive which I personally prefer.

kittywhiskers

Gorgeous, warm lavender, lemon and chocolate blend. The lavender, musk and woodsy notes remind me of Lovely also by SJP. Unfortunately the scent disappears immediately on me upon spraying :( no sillage AT ALL. Cute bottle tho

Celbeloz

This is so beautiful, much closer to a niche than a celebrity perfume! Not a safe blind buy for people who love the typical sweet floral celebrity scents. This is different and I love it. Clean, aromatic with some sweetness. Inoffensive and wearable

WhoKilledCockRobin?

I like the scent, reminds me Christmas with my mum. So subjective.

I don't recomend it for blind buy.

It smels like combination of lemon, lavender and dark cocolate. I don't like this combination, but during winter, autumn or just colder days with higher air humidity... it's nice.

I wanted to love this fragrance, but something's missing...depth is missing. Sometimes I layer it with Salcator Dali PDT. Maybe "depth" of perfume needs bigger budget. It also itches on my skin after aplication, but nothing horrible.

It's longlasting. No cheap smell.

Bottle is terrible. It looks so attractive until the metal part of cup sticks to plastics part of cap and glue under it is visible. Also name of perfume is dissapearing quickly from the bottle. Dissapointment.

dcjimr

Very sharp alcohol in the opening, but it dries down to a nice but kind of meh gourmand-y floral scent. For the $13 I paid it's well worth it!

gpaisley

Just a little review to share that Covet reminds me of Clean Skin by Clean.

ava96

At first spritz this is lavender and lemons for me, quite heavy.
After a whole day of wearing this, I absolutely love it. The longevity is really good, sillage is good, the scent is unique. I found it really comforting, but also fresh in some way. Really interesting perfume.

SerenaLovesKanye

What is this warm, unisex cozy scent? It's incredible. It smells like a warm uncle when you were a kid, the handsome uncle. Either that or a sophisticated elegant handsome woman, someone with a perfect and warm gorgeous face, who wears designer clothes - oh SJP ! I see now! This scent is definitely the magic gem. SJP ?? No way. But I see it - she's got class and she's one of those truth tellers. She's the type who, if she puts her name on something, it's top notch. Covet is top knotch. The bottle is incredible. Gorgeous and perfect. This scent is warm, long lasting, unique, unisex and honestly, I don't know anything that smells like this. For the record, I love lavender so maybe this is what I love. And I love true unisex and I think this one is it. Also I love scents that lean warm/comforting/cozy and this is it too. It's a classy one and I'm so glad I have this!

Base is powdery. (When musk is a base note as it is here - often dry down will be powdery) Scent changes on your skin as you wear it. Complex.

BewitchingJasmine

If Hanae Mori is the Strawberry Shortcake, dollhead scent… this is her friend Lemon Meringue.

It does have a quite a volatile opening, but quickly dries down to a dreamy, doll-head, lemon dessert

ooolgooo

This won’t be helpful as I can only echo the reviews before. Unique, uplifting, beautiful creation. If it projected/lasted more, that would be a dream coming true. It started as a dislike and now I spray this almost every day (at least for bedtime) I wish I could find something similar.
Price is a joke, bottle is stilish and heavy, the cap is ridiculous. I agree with the comment that if this was a niche brand, people could not stop talking about this scent.

pandasniffs

I love the herbal tea comparison that several reviews have made, Covet 100% does have that vibe. It's a cosy and tranquil smell as if you went over to a friend's place for a cup of said tea. There is some kind of homemade cake/sweet treat on offer too (chocolate?) and an essential oil diffuser going in the background. A window is open and laundry is drying in the garden.

TDSollog

On me, Covet is a soft, gentle gourmand (in cold weather). Office appropriate. Beckons someone to come in closer for a hug.

Obsidian Rose

The lemon, lavender and chocolate work very well together. This scent is very pleasant to my nose, a little different, fresh and classy.
I love this unusual scent.

SusanTheTeach

I was so prepared to smell this fragrance and almost be appalled by how "odd" it was touted to be. How the notes were supposedly in competition with each other. I bought it for $10 out of curiosity and figured at least the bottle is adorable. I am so glad I did because it is a great fragrance! There is nothing off-putting, odd, or poorly blended about this at all. It is not on an extreme end of a spectrum of scents. To me it smells as if I am taking in the aroma of a beautiful bouquet of flowers (mostly the green leaves and stems) and an open box of chocolates right in front. As if your loved one bought you a Valentines' flower bouquet and box of chocolates and after you got done ooo-ing and aahhh-ing over how beautiful the flowers are, you dug right in to that box of chocolates, opened it up and started to enjoy those too! Total visual but imagine what that would smell like. THAT is Covet. It's lovely....

GirlOnFire

I will elaborate on this review later, but for now I will say that I have adored this very unique beauty since it was released and I can never part with it. I've been hoarding it.

Jasmine_Sambac

Standing back Covet reminds me of CD's Dune. At first there's a powerful alcoholic prelude. After a short time the terpenes of bruised lemon rind emerge and then husky soft blossom scents of lavender and magnolia. Honeysuckle and lily are barely perceptible. The base note is characterized by sandalwood in Dune, but here in Covet it is chocolate and teak wood thats more strongly represented. It is followed then by a rather soft musk note, which surrounds the fragrance with subtlety. The other ingredients listed I don't know as well for me to identify.

Covert is lighter and fresher whereas Dune is more noble. I agree with SailorV that Covet is a special scent but perhaps not completely unique?

_jenevieve_

100% Swamp witch vibes, and I am so here for it! Covet has been on and off my favorites shelf, but will always be a ride or die.
Yes, the opening is weird. Yes, the lemon is off-putting at first. But about 3 minutes later, I’m turning myself on. The dry down is warm chocolate and still citrusy-zingy, herbal green and totally unique. I’ve craved this. Hippy-chic boho babe with fringe, rocker tee, and duster. Spliff optional, but encouraged.

Rehderja

Very much a skin scent. Sort of a sour smell. Maybe it’s the lemon? Not a fan really. SJP Stash is my favorite.

Fleurie20

The initial spray is soo odd I am at a loss of words for it. It is super duper sour but not the smooth, lemony sourness on me like others have described, it is harsh and chemical. It also has a bitterness which yeah I think you can consider to be chocolate note. Then the pungent greenness, which is also very different from other green notes that I've tried.

On my skin it takes around 15 mins for this bizzare initial concoction to settle, revealing a gently gourmand vibe, just a bit of yumminess and not the full-on food scent. I like it much better at this stage.

A very different perfume, not just from the rest of SJP but also any other brands. Easily passes for a niche fragrance.

brand117

This one is an absolute oddball. Lemon, unsweetened chocolate/cacao, and lavender. I absolutely adore it and it lasts forever on me and I would never expect this from a popular celebrity brand, but then again SJP has put out some gems. I am unsure of what to compare this to because I have yet to smell something else like it, but I will always recommend it.

aesthetic_k

Just bought it today and i surprisingly love it ❤️❤️ It starts with a citrusy lemon which makes this perfume bright and cheerful. Later the lemon mixed with other notes and turned powdery on my skin ❤️💗 This is definitely unisex imo and the bottle design is 10/10 😊

tilapia_johnson

This is one that I'm certain is different on everyone. After reading all of the previous reviews here, and researching a little about SJP's relationship to fragrance (she is described as having mixed Bonne Belle Skin Musk, Comme des Garcons Avignon, and Egyptian oil from a NYC street vender to make her own signature scent), I blind-bought Covet. I loved the ad as a kid, directed by Jean Paul Goude, and was under the impression it was a unique, unisex scent. I am still making sense of it, but here is my initial interpretation. Starts off with a strong blast of L'Occitane-style lemon and dryish purple-blue lavender that takes a moment to define. Then, as it dries down, comes the chocolate note, which to my nose is more like cocoa butter: creamy, warm and only a little sweet. I don't get LOTV or honeysuckle, which I am convinced is only a fantasy note, but there is some greenness from the flowers listed. I think the defining attribute of this fragrance is the musk and cashmere wood, which make it grounded, comforting and niche-quality. There remains a presence of lemon and lavender, less intense, but the cocoa-cashmere-musk is what really sets it apart. Not what I expected, but that seems to be the reaction of most. I want to see what this is like in the cold, but for now I am pleased with Sarah Jessica's nose (also the bottle is so unique and heavy!)

Alces Alces

If you started with a classic gray-green bar of Yardley English Lavender soap, and then mixed in pieces of La Maison du Chocolat Andalousie, you would have something like this smell. (Andalousie is dark chocolate ganache infused with lemon zest and mixed with cream of lemons from the south of France. Very exquisite chocolate.) The contrast between soapy strong lavender, gourmand chocolate, and searing acidic lemon either works on you or doesn't. Covet smells like nothing else I know of. It lasts all day long at full blast, too. It works best in spring or fall since those seasons bring out the best in its contradictions. If only every perfume were THIS creative and original.

SailorV

Wow, this might be the most unique celebrity fragrance I ever smelled!
It has a wild mixture of notes: Zesty lemon, herbal lavender, creamy musk, dewy white flowers and bittersweet chocolate. It sounds like a mess, but the result is very harmonious and pretty on my skin. It's a soothing, almost cooling scent somewhere between a sweet lemon cream dessert with the lightest touch of dark chocolate, fresh laundry and bunches of dried lavender. I don't find it as green as the bottle suggests and I have never smelled something quite like this before.
It's obvious that there are florals in this, but I wouldn't have identified them as magnolia, honeysuckle and lily of the valley on my own. It makes sense to read them in the notes though. I'm not a big fan of lotv, but it's not screechy here (like it often can be to me), instead it feels creamy and transparent.
A light touch of amber adds some warmth and depth to the base.

Even though Covet is a very special scent and maybe not the biggest crowd-pleaser, I find it very versatile and easy to wear. It's neither heavy, particularly warm or very sweet like most of my beloved gourmands, nor insipid or soapy like the average floral-citrus-musk combo. If I sniffed this blindly, I'm sure I would have thought this was a niche creation. Impressive!

Anne57

Kudos to SJP for daring to be different! Covet is unique - dry, unisex, not at all gourmand, despite the notes, which sound like they should be a hot mess, but somehow work. The chocolate is dark, unsweetened cocoa, the lemon is tart lemon zest, there is a minty note, lemongrass or vetiver, and a dry lavender, along with some florals. The initial spray is awful - nail polish remover acetone/burning plastic. But once you (quickly) get past that, Covet turns into a different creature. It could pass for an expensive niche fragrance from say, MFK or Bond No 9 (it does remind me a bit of Chinatown - that back of your neighborhood bodega note). So, not a safe blind-buy unless you enjoy challenging scents, which I do. But if you are a fan of Chinatown, or Jicky, or abhor cupcake scents and/or big-shoulder florals, give Covet a try. It can be found for next to nothing. A big thumbs-up.

Skinscents4Fusspots

I bought this recently and I'm getting a very different vibe than a lot of the other reviews talk about. To my nose (and my skin) this is a sweet and comforting scent that is fresh, clean and so very cosy! I get lemon, Lavender, Honeysuckle, musk and chocolate. It's a chocolate scent that you can wear in warm weather. Not cloying or too sweet and despite the lavender being a bit powdery, the lemon balances it, keeping it sprightly a little juicy. This smells like an unusual, niche scent to me.... which probably explains why it's a bit of a love or hate perfume. And as with a lot of Musky scents, your skin chemistry is likely to effect the smell of this greatly!

Ps, if you like Jil Sander Sun Delight - another rather unusual chocolate perfume, then you might like this one.

Tardigrada

I'm sorry to those who like this. The idea is amazing, the notes are creative, the bottle design is unique. But the budget is pathetic.
It's really like one of those 'what I ordered' vs 'what I received' sad stories.
I get that SJP is supposedly gifted olfactory department, but celebrity perfume is a genre for cheap tricks and you can't fake sophisticated for a few dollars. OK, don't get me wrong, I do love to dabble in celebrity perfumes, probably way more than it's reasonable for someone on the wrong end of their thirties, but I love my celebrity perfumes when they are not reeking of pretentiousness.

AggiePP

Bought this years ago (2007) at Marshall’s and remember a really classic floral musky scent. Bought it again this year and it’s nothing like it. It’s strong Lilly with some musk and no citrus. It smells cheap. Sorry:(

r0r0

A blind buy which I regret. On my skin I get LILY OF THE VALLEY shrieking out at me, at first shrill lily of the valley, then syrupy, pollen-y lily of the valley, then kind of creamy, woody lily of the valley interspersed with a masculine, cologne-y lily of the valley, and finally sweet, ambery lily of the valley, but the main impression remains lily of the valley. The thing is that I don't particularly like lily of the valley.

Also it reminds me of a scent from my childhood, but I can't remember which, or who wore it. It would have to be something predating the mid '90s.

ETA: This must be a skin chemistry thing, because it doesn't smell the same on paper, or on other people I know who have tried it.

Ferra_Verto

A very unique take on a fougere; very green and bright lemon & geranium that follows into a gorgeous lavender/bitter chocolate accord, kept engaging and spicy for the scents duration. There's a distinct mintiness that keeps the scent fresh and uplifting, never stale.
This scent combo should not work, but all the notes are balanced in such perfect harmony that it does, quite well. Great sillage and lasts surprisingly well, I get at least 6 hours.
Wonderful for transitioning weather, spring & autumn.

Bedtimestory

Wasn't expecting this, initial blast feels almost medicinal and harsh, a few minutes later you get a sweet green scent, and then dry down brings out the memory of you smelling your fingers as a kid after you handled a bar of dark chocolate.

This is a unisex scent, by mainstream standards (all scents are unisex). Very complex and well blended. If it had better projection we would have been talking about a powerhouse, but for the price you can't complain.

Mugler could copy this, throw some salt notes and release a unisex weird cologne at triple the price. Good one.

Update: I keep reaching for it, I hate that I've become Foucault's SJP behind bars

Wrenn02

White floral with a peppery green/lavender edge, fades into a creamy, slightly woody musk with a hint of cocoa. All of this topped with a spritz of lemon oil from the peel (not the juice). I think it's really well blended; it leaves an abstract impression of all its notes and no single note overly sticks out to me. I become nose blind to this quickly; it doesn't cling on to my clothes like other perfumes do (I spray very conservatively though to avoid offending others). I think it's beautiful, feels unusual and expensive considering the price. Pleasantly surprised and glad I got a full bottle, I wear it often now.

bigstinky

I got a new-in-box, cellophaned bottle from Ebay and boy it almost killed me on the first spray. Something about the storage conditions or maybe the scent itself had turned to pure nail polish remover acetone. It still is aggressively chemical on first spray. Dries down to uhh...??? I'm not sure. There's something there but it's indefinable. Still chemical. Hairspray, cleaning products. It's a MILF smell for sure, but maybe not in a good way.

Catmo

When I first sprayed this It was a bit overwhelming and masculine leaning. I started to regret my purchase.
Then as it dried down I began to get quite a lot of chocolate with lavender and some lemon too. The more it dried down- the more apparent those 3 notes became. Now after a few hours, it reminds me of Mon Guerlain but with lemon and chocolate instead of vanilla. It’s odd but nice.

SJP's perfumes are some of the best celebrity scents on the market. After the surprisingly excellent and deservingly successful Lovely, I was keen to try Covet, a scent that sounded very interesting on paper. To my memory, it was promoted as being unisex, and the lavender-chocolate accord sounded both unusual and tempting. As it is firmly in the cheap-and-cheerful category, I blind-bought a big bottle. However, it is an odd scent, and while I love creativity and experimentation in perfumery, I'm not convinced that it works.

Covet (great name) opens with green, peppery geranium (I love geranium, as it evokes childhood memories for me). Bolstered by a squeeze of juicy lemon, it is fresh and quite masculine-leaning at this stage. After a little while, the lavender emerges, closely followed by the chocolate note, forming the crux of this scent. The lavender is reminiscent of essential oils - while it is aromatic, it manages to choke the other notes. The chocolate is fainter, dark and bitter, but realistic. This accord is jarring, and even comes off as fleetingly rancid on my skin. It is green and slightly fougère-like in the background, but this is overshadowed by the lavender.

As it develops further, it improves a little, and is joined by soft white florals that add a little polleny sweetness, but the lavender-chocolate accord remains king. Grassy vetiver enhances the greenness at this stage. As it dries down, musky and woody notes creep in, and it dries down to a slightly sweet musky skin scent. Sillage and longevity are moderate. Unisex in my opinion, and excellent value if you like it, but Covet is not for me. Still, bonus points for originality. 2.5/5.

Pilikins

This is a comforting woody lavender perfume which is smoothed by some light cocoa. To my nose this is not a big chocolate perfume at all - it doesn’t compare with big chocolate/lavender perfumes where cocoa is dominant, such as Chocolate Makes Me Happy. Chocolate is definitely a side player, but adds to the overall silky smoothness of this perfume. Overall, this is an aromatic and introspective perfume, leaning feminine. Sillage low to moderate, longevity 5+ hours. All seasons.

eau de dosa

Initial spray punches you with old grass and pee! But it calms down and becomes a wearable lemony chocolate. Quite strong, so you only need 1-3 sprays. An acquired taste that’s more pleasant over time.

dualaokto

This is one of my all time favorite go-to perfumes. Smells wonderful, subtle, and unique. It starts with a plastic/glue smell, then the bitter chocolate appears altogether with lavender and spices. They are blended incredibly well. The drydown is a bit powdery, spicy-aromatic choco, and a bit woody. I wouldn't say it's a gourmand. It’s oddly unique yet very comforting to my nose. I love this so much. Plus it lasts forever on my skin. ❤️

violetelle

This is gorgeous! It’s Mon Guerlain-esque - I really get the lemon and lavender but this is quite green. I do get a hint of dark chocolate the more I wear it as well. So easy to wear, light and fresh. And for the price it’s amazing, 100% recommend.

GoldieHue

I can truly smell the top three notes in this fragrance:lemon, lavender, and chocolate. Beautiful and uplifting fragrance.

Lucky7z

One of my favorites that I've had in my perfume rotation for years!

I remember when I first bought this it was a blind buy..and when I looked up the notes I was like yikes lol lemon, dark chocolate, lavender etc sounded horrible together!! and SJP Stash smells like riccola cough drops doused in black pepper lol so didn't know what to expect with Covet.

Let me tell you this was love at first spray lol These notes blend impressively beautiful together!! The main notes I pick up are lemon, darkchocolate, honeysuckle, musk and hints of amber and lavender.. Its like a light but sweet lemony poundcake then in comes the dark chocolate with musk and lavender all blended together..its so good and different! I'm on my second bottle of this and have a third for backup incase its discontinued wich it might be IDK.

Sillage and longevity are both moderate and long lasting on me.

Comrade Zagoryanskaya

This is the second full bottle “celebrity fragrance” I’ve ever purchased. A blind buy too - so I really didn’t know what to expect and, although concerned that it could turn out to be a boring generic green floral, I decided to give it a try and… wow - I have been quite pleasantly surprised. Feels citrusy and mild cologny at first, then lavender comes out and well distinctive dark chocolate follows while citrus notes are still lingering. Then there are some white florals and a little musk and vetiver and wood (actually the pyramid here on Fragrantica seems quite accurate in this instance) but three top notes continue to dominate throughout for me. I’m sure there are fragrances of this type out there, but I never really came across those and citrus-lavender-chocolate combination feels pretty unique to me. Projection is moderate, longevity - about 6 hours on bare skin and about 10 hours on clothes. All in all I’m impressed, just wish for a bit more silage and longevity, still - excellent value for money and an unexpected keeper for me.

evaki_kara

I finally got this in my collection and this was love! Not at first spray. But the second time I sprayed it on me... love! I detected all the notes and a hint of mint. It changes all the time and the notes develop and make this gem really round and cozy. I Love it. Bravo SJP. You make really classy perfumes!!!! Covet is my favourite now.

Phantomias

So recently I got a mini of this and was pleasantly surprised by it. Nice green fragrance and thankfully almost free of musk. Modest performance, quite unisex. Attractive design, even though the stopper looks a bit like an old fashioned faucet handle. That's OK, a little quirky, I like it.
The pyramid notes don't correspond with the fragrance IMHO, I can't detect a hint of chocolate or honeysuckle.

Supersmelle

The Short: This ok. I like it but….

The Long: Lemony sweet poundcake hugs. I like this scent but, I don’t wear it often anymore. Every.single.wear… someone near me mentions cake. 🤨

Pleasant scent. It just registers as a gourmand musk on my skin. Opens aromatic lemons and fades into sweet cake batter. I do not smell floral or wood notes. I bought because I love floral woody musk scents. Overall, good scent; just not what I expected.

Wears really well; has staying power. Will keep it and try it again later in a different season. Try before you buy if you can.

artpopmixer

This opens with a really odd blast of Greens, lemon and geraniums and it very startling. It smells delicious though and I can really sense where the name Covet comes into it. As it warms up on the skin the lavender and chocolate come through and it’s such a bizarre mix of notes it shouldn’t smell this good.
I don’t smell many of the florals in the heart and from the base I smell only the amber a good few hours later when it gets softer on the skin. I have to applaud Sarah as all of her perfumes are such a unique mix of unisex frags and they all last a long time for the price you pay for them. Covet and it’s sister Pure Bloom are worlds apart but they fit together if you know what I mean. The lasting power on Covet is about 9 hours on skin and it projects quite well for the first few hours too. The bottle is so odd looking I love it, a green flat bottle with a ‘diamond’ cut deep green flower looking lid it’s just ridiculous! Can’t help but love it though lol

Gillan100

So, I ordered it without even trying just because of so many reviews here where to many people this scent was odd, disappointing and quite annoying. I was curious to see, how these lovely notes can go wrong so I ordered it and last weekend got a chance to try this lovely scent. Initial spray felt citrusy, tangy and green followed by some spiciness. Later on, floral notes overpowered making me feel lovely, sunny and comforting altogether. I am not sure, how many of you found it odd, disappointing etc., though I found it much uplifting, empowering and beautiful. May be, its about the skin chemistry so would suggest you to try this before you buy it. However, I was lucky enough that this blind buy suited my skin chemistry so lovingly. On me, this is a unique, bold and comforting scent that makes me feel well groomed, fresh and totally presentable at times. I am in love with this beautiful scent and this is surely going to stay on my top 5 scents for longer I believe. Love!

EaudeParfumsEnthusiast

Inspired by other reviewers and my search to add something interesting to my collection like SJP’s Stash but for a lower price tag, Covet opens on my clothes a PVA Glue-like opening, possibly from the eccentric blend of lemon, geranium and lavender then settles into a gourmand dark chocolate which sweetens and beautifies the initial sharp notes reminiscent of childhood arts and crafts. I also noticed that the dark chocolate here is similar to the one used in Mariah Carey's Lollipop Bling Mine Again fragrance. The floral notes come out after dark chocolate departs as well as the darker base notes, warming up the heart with intensity and sensuality. 'I have to have it' indeed. I have the Coty Prestige manufactured one instead of the Lovely Distribution one so it has definitely sat on the shelf for many years before I purchased it. This was sprayed on my jumper as I no longer spray on my skin due to drying and sensitivities of alcohol and perfume ingredients. I like/love it as something different in my wardrobe.

nurkhairn

I LOVE this perfume. In the bottle it can be pretty unassuming but when it is on it is quite impressive. Great longevity and sillage.

amberwaves

This is the most intoxicatingly odd clash of scents. as it opens you’re hit with lemon, lavender and dark chocolate at equal strength, three big personalities trying to walk through a door at once and cramming together at the shoulders.
This feels like it absolutely should not work but somehow it really does.

It’s quite a dark, thrilling scent. Glam and villainous, opulent and more than a little twisted.
It feels like a lush, green but deadly plant. Something that would dilate your pupils and numb your lips as you succumbed to it. It’s decadent but dangerous in a way that makes you feel as though you’re in a trap.
Like an enormous carnivorous plant knew that humans were drawn to delicious things and heady florals and secreted a nectar combining a bizarre blend of random temptations likely to draw us close, hoping to ensnare us.
Surrendering to this scent feels like being lured into the belly of a massive pitcher plant by a rich narcotic nectar.
it's both shadowy and vibrant, with the warm dark earthiness of a foreboding forest laced with hypnotic, lethal acid green like a toxic vine or a poisonous frog.
old animated films would have depicted this as a vivid curling green smoke, something exhaled out of a potion bottle with a skull on it or spun into the air by a witch's spell casting hands.

Projection is strong, it’s designed to turn heads and pique curiosity, its magnetic.
Longevity is quite good, as it progresses the lavender and chocolate meld warmly with the woody base on my skin and the poisonous green of the top hovers above it like mist hugging the ground. it toys with the idea of tapering off and letting the florals have more of a moment but never fully cedes its territory. the lemon/chocolate/lavender concoction hogs the spotlight, insistent and stubborn. while the heart and base are certainly more accessible than the peculiar top, they are ultimately altered by it. like it corrodes down into them or coats them like a poison apple. even when it dies down to a skin scent this fragrance maintains much of its original character, if you're not a fan of its opening you're not going to escape it at any point in the scent's lifespan. if you're not on board i could see this being a very disappointing blind buy or even a headache for you.

i took the risk and i blind bought this as it was cheap and the commercial's dramatic, unhinged energy always made me wonder what it could possibly smell like to warrant such a name and characterisation. fortunately i'm in love with it but the risk may not pay off for everyone. i can see how this could be polarising.

This makes me feel like I’m in a wicked fairy tale, the old kind with gruesome endings. i'm very impressed by the amount of personality and atmosphere it has, i had no idea it would be this captivating. I’m truly bewitched by this, an instant favourite.

Natashaps01

To me this smells like an empty plastic bad where you had black licorice candy. The high quality kind with some mixed in but mainly licorice. I like it because I like licorice and unique Fraignances.

scnofthcrime

I bought this when it came out. I was bowled over by how different this was from anything else I've smelled. Even now, years later, I still think this scent is unique. However, I rarely found myself wearing this. It smelled confused on my skin. Herbal green mixed with dark chocolate. It just didn't smell that good on my skin. I still have a lot of respect for this scent. I feel like it would have been better as a high end candle.

bodnerrachel

The lemon, lavender, chocolate, and wood work well together into an Oriental synergistic whole. It's very introspective, mild, aromatic, and evokes something timeless. Has a musky earthiness to it. Not long-lasting, but doesn't cost much to reapply. Overall very nice.

Archangelo

I absolutely hate the chocolate note in this, it gets me every time. I think the green opening is lovely, even the smell of pallergonium leaves - which is not my favourite - somehow works on me. It’s the chocolate which ruins the whole composition. I blind bought the full bottle for a bargain, but ended up giving it away.

theuntrainednose

I have a sample, thanks SailorV!

----

This smells beautifully and unlike any fragrance I have tested till now! Powdery, herbal and comforting, to me it smells like some unnamed bushes I used to pass by when I was a child sometimes. Crushed leaves, dry bark and small aromatic flowers which only projected their scent for a little while when it was warm but not so warm that they had fell.

In terms of notes: I can get the lemon and the lavender, and floral notes, and something dry and woody, but warm (not woody sharp in the cedar way, more woody warm like sandalwood, though it is not sandalwood, it's drier). I don't think I get chocolate, though I get something that trigger my "comfort yummy scent, must re-smell" part. The musk is soft and powdery.

Projects at arm's length in a warm summer day, and I enjoy it a lot. Want!

Smonalisa

First spray is a strong synthetic blast reminiscent of superglue, but fight the urge to toss it in the garbage and the lemon emerges on a carpet of powdery white musk and woodsy white florals. Stays tangy and musky throughout and lingers in the room when sprayed.

GabbyVersusThe

I find Covet to be a very green fragrance. It's slightly citrusy, has dark chocolatey undertones but is definitely not sweet.

Projection and longevity are more than satisfactory - a few spritzes will still be going strong at the end of the day.

annasarahr121

I like Covet! It's interesting and unisex. I enjoy perfumes that are a little bit strange and challenging, and Covet is definitely a bit strange in the "discordant notes" department. I just went back and read a bunch of the most recent reviews and it's endlessly interesting to me how people feel so differently about the same scent! :D There are definitely some impressions that keep coming up, over and over, but the responses to those impressions are what is so varied; it's fascinating!

My first impressions of Covet were of mintiness, freshness, greenness -- an aromatic/herbal but cool, licorice/fennel-type fragrance. I smelled a vegetal, carroty/orris root-type note, as well, but there's nothing like that listed. After checking the notes, I could also smell the chocolate and now realize that the minty, licorice/fennel smell must be the lavender. It really reminds me of another unisex fougere that I enjoy, CK Be, but Be doesn't have Covet's chocolate note. Quite a few people noted a lily of the valley note, especially in the drydown, which I haven't yet noticed; to me, it is, thus far, strictly a fougere, with a bit of a gourmand edge (lemon-chocolate). I will see what I notice as I keep wearing it...

I think Covet is an interesting, cool but cozy, informal fragrance good for daily wear. So far, I'm not sure about the longevity, and other reviews were all over the place, so I'll have to come back and update this later.

Tolkashutka

Second and final wearing of my ~1 mL sample. Today is a nice spring day, mid-70’s F.

Initial impression is that this is the 2nd SJP fragrance that I do not enjoy. For reference, my favorites from her line are Lovely You, followed by Lovely, then Stash. I did not care for Born Lovely, but only because I felt that it fell flat, not that the notes clashed/were offensive. Here, I think it’s going into weird disharmony territory. Getting the faintest recall of a Matcha Meditation vibe, but not sweet enough (probably the dark chocolate vs. white) to truly compare to MM. The lemon & lavender are nice enough together, but the dark chocolate is the awkward third wheel.

As it begins to dry down, I like it far, far more. The lemon almost entirely disappears, and the chocolate becomes richer/creamier and sweeter--now paired with the lavender, makes for a truly interesting sniff. Longevity is truly the middle of moderate (4-5 hours), as is projection. Like with Camelia Intrepide, the unappealing opening betrays what a pleasant fragrance this dries down into. If at first you feel like scrubbing it off, do your best to wait an hour or so, and see if it magically transforms for you, like it did for me.

The very affordable price takes what would normally be an “ok” from me into “like” territory. Definitely worth sampling, and onto my want list it goes!

gpaisley

SJP Covet, to my nose, opens with a herbal green punch with an acrid accord (that is potentially a sour lavender?).
About 1 hour later, however, it unexpectedly dries down to a soft skin scent musk - that reminds me of Tom Ford WHITE SUEDE - but with an added hint of chocolate. After the top notes dissapate, the scent is actually rather light and sillage is soft and stays close to the skin.

silviyaperfumes

Mostly I get lemon, lavender amd chocolate-strange but really successful combination! Sometimes the drydown reminds me of Avon Pure 02 for her which is another favourite cheapie of mine. The sillage is nice and the staying power of Covet is excellent on my skin-6+ hours. For me it's a little masterpiece and it makes me want to try all of the Sarah Jessica Parker perfumes.

Konga5000

Bought a bottle on the second hand market -- tossed it a few days later. A very muddled mess and not a GOOD mess either. It's like when you're cooking something and it does not taste right - so you add salt.. then pepper...then maybe some garlic powder.. then some paprika ...and it STILL does not taste right. LOL

CindyLouHoo

This weird thing just keeps growing on me. To my nose, it’s very lemony, but creamy. It isn’t sour but does have a sharpness, even though it’s creamy- maybe that’s the lavender. There is sweetness but just enough - I guess the chocolate? Not a safe blind buy unless, like me, you are a SJP maniac. She makes insane(ly good and unique) perfumes for cheap.

Jacobean Lily

This one's growing on me.
Synthetic assault of cashmere-wood at first sniff, followed by a fresh and weird lemon-infused chocolate with the cashmere molecules sparkling throughout like fire-lit amber. It inspires an interesting push-pull reaction in me which made me want to replay on paper.
Second time around, on paper and skin, I get a minty-lemon spritz with a chocolate vibe to it. Fun!
What stands out is an unusual minty-fresh leafy scent I detect in the opening and heart, which must be pelargonium leaf. It's only vaguely like the real thing, but it's playful and it makes Covet original.
A minty-chocolate-lemony treat I'll enjoy wearing.

Distillation:
lemony chocolate
wrapped in a minty-fresh leaf
original fun

Got dam this was unexpected! I noticed that Covet was compared to Jean Naté so when I saw this at TJ Maxx for cheap I bought it. Why does SJP put out such baller fragrances? Aren’t we supposed to hate her and unilaterally lob misogynistic insults about her appearance? Isn’t that what everyone does these days? Anyway, your personal feelings about SJP the person aside, as a perfume line I’m never not impressed. Lovely is awesome. Stash is next level. Now I try Covet and wow! This one is so complex yet so well blended yet so confusing idkwtf is going on but I love it.

The bottle I found at TJ Maxx had actually leaked into the box and the scent was very concentrated when I put it in my cart. To be honest it smelled a lot like Sunflowers at first. When cross referencing the notes it’s not evident that they share much, but there’s definitely an upbeat citrusy magnolia quality in both. I love that as an herb-heavy fragrance it has both light and dark qualities; the energetic citrus opener grounded by the gorgeous and sensual musk. The deep chocolate accords balance out so wonderfully the citrus and lighter and more opulent florals. I also love the jolie laide quality of Covet going on - it definitely combines the low brow with the high. The ugly with the beautiful; Jean Naté but make it modern.

ambydawn

This is such an unusual perfume! At first I got the green aromatic opening and was completely turned off... that just isn't my thing at all. After a few minutes I get the citrus and it is more pleasant. I'm not normally a big citrus fan but this is balanced and not "bug spray" at all to me. About 30 minutes in it starts to sweeten and the magic happens. I guess it's the dark chocolate note combined with the white florals and amber that is doing it, but it feels like honey on my skin. Very warm now. Reminds me a great deal of a toned down L'instant at this point. So much so that I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet... though the opening is VERY different. I actually would prefer this to L'instant because that one is soooo sweet and just too much for me at times. I would pick this one up if I could find it for SUPER cheap or in a swap, but since I own L'instant already I won't go out of my way to buy it. I could see this being a fragrance I craved because I can't stop smelling my arm!

ShoGirl

Honest review: I blind bought this because I was so intrigued at how dang WEIRD it sounded and how many people found it annoying or odd or disappointing or, even, bugspray! :D

Spritzed some on: thought initially: "well actually it doesn't smell of very much". Followed by "it's green and tangy and a weeeee bit sharp for me". Followed by "ooh that's spicy!" followed by "actually there's lemon there too, ah'm digging it" followed finally by "there's flowers in there coming through!" and finally "wow, can this pleasant, sunny, spiced honeyed mixture that smells almost comforting/medicinal in it's mixture of "green", honeysuckle, lemon, bitter notes, floral notes and spices coming at you (like something a hippyish friend might mix up and hand you as a herbal tea you glug down reluctantly but actually find you quite enjoy the taste of after all) be so contraversial, how can so many people not like this?".... well, yeah now I actually wrote it down like that I can see why some people might find this weird, honey-cough-syrup medicine undesirable but not me. I'm here for it, I find it empowering, I find it uplifting, and I love it.

Covet is the "bold, brash and unique with a sunny smile" mode one of the 3 SJP fragrances I have.

"Lovely" is for those days where you want to feel fresh and well-groomed, and presentable. It's a lovely(ha! pun intended) ladylike swirl of delicate notes that smell pleasant and refined and completely unobjectionable.

Stash - my favourite - is a big warm hug of spices and golden glow, with a boozy decedent indulgence and comfort to it, and an undercurrent of sexy (ie it might be a warm comforting "hug" of a fragrance, but that hug could well be a "cuddle-up-on-the-sofa-with-a-love-interest" too perhaps)

So in conclusion, and to extend my original analogy in a fun and lighthearted way, if Stash is a gorgeous big mug of hot chocolate spiked decadently with delicious golden spiced rum, and Lovely is a crisp glass of a light, slightly sharp, white wine, perfectly chilled, then Covet, to me, is DEFINITELY that odd-looking big mug of steaming hippy herbal tea your eccentric but genius friend made, god knows what's in it but there's a ton of honey to make it sweet against the sharp and it makes your tummy feel warm and it's strange and has an odd aftertaste, but hey it ain't half bad, can I have some more? If this description sounds like something you might like, then Covet might be worth a try.

Mea.G.Newcastle

After blind buying Lovely, which I absolutely love and made it my signature scent, I wanted to try something else from SJP. This was mentioned a lot, so I decided to blind buy it, regarding the price furthermore, I thought it will be a good option for an interesting but charming scent in my collection.
But it’s strange, in a bad way!!!
l must admit that there are nice things about it, like the price, the packaging and bottle, longevity is insanely good, I got about 12h...but the scent on me is just odd. I wouldn’t recommend to blind buy it, I definitely advise to try it on your skin!
At first spritz I only get something like harsh green pungent citrus.
After dry down I can only feel an unpleasant green note with bitter chocolate, what resists for very long hours. Sweetness of amber or woody notes I can barley smell somewhere underneath that weird green citrusy chocolate note.
Although I didn’t expect anything, after seeing and reading lots of reviews detailing the uniqueness of this scent, I am disappointed because I really wanted to like this one.

labonvie

Hmmmm. Not what I expected. Nobody mentioned that this is a lily-of-the-valley (lotv) bomb.

Let me back up. I was surprised when I first sprayed this because it was a chemical onslaught. Hot plastic and lavender. I don’t get anything chocolaty or green. What I do start to get after 5 minutes is “body splash I used in the 90’s.” It’s Jean Nate. Yes, definite wisps of a less screechy Jean Nate. But, there is still something palpably synthetic happening. After the first 30 minutes, this is stuck in lily-of-the-valley shampoo territory. It’s not bad but I have many other lotv fragrances, so this seems a bit redundant.

I’m sure the newer bottles (which mine is) pale in comparison to the original formulation. I used Lovely when it came out and absolutely adore Stash and was hoping for another budget masterpiece. This does not rise to that level. To be fair, few things do. I am a bit disappointed but glad I tried this. Despite all that, I do like this. If you already have a lotv that you love or you don’t care for lotv, you do not need this.

FiligreeAngel

Now this is good. Very good. Unique.

Crispy green opening (which I imagine could be tad difficult for some) then it develops into a beautiful lemony chocolate creaminess. Could not stop smelling myself after the first try and very promptly bought a bottle. Will need a new bottle very soon, it's that good!

I had not smelt an SJP fragrance prior to this and I have to say I've been quite impressed with a fair few of her frags now. They work well on my skin and have a certain counter-culture quality to them I find refreshing in the world of celebrity fragrance.

D3G

The flowers is this reminds me of going to the cemetary with my Granma. It might sound weird, but we went to visit people that I never met and I loved the way she talked about this relatives. I love all time I spend with her... such a great woman...
Longevity is always good with this brand too.

echurch1979

I don't know...I want to be mad at this. You know, sell it and move on! But if this isn't the Corleone of fragrances, I don't know what is! It has caused me pause many times while listing it, and now we are both resigned to occasional wear and pensive thought between. What took the most to consider was the brazenly contrary notes in the opening: lavender, lemon, chocolate and geranium. Who does that and expects people to "covet" it? Maybe its the dark, bitter chocolate note that takes the acidic medicinal smell to a level of epic acrid confusion, only furthered then with the next evolution of random components. We're faced with honeysuckle, magnolia, and good old, lily of the valley. (Which I am certain no one knows the scent of by rote, and probably has never smelled one in nature. I mean, they could say it had Zumilina blossom and Relahnia flower in it, and we would all dutifully nod our heads, because at this point, why the heck not, and who the heck knows?! Please be advised, that I made both those names up. And if by some chance of cosmic blunder they really do exist when googled, Please let me know!) But, I digress...The base is comprised of the alkaline material: amber (which its synthetic smell no one seems to agree upon), musk, cashmere wood, vetiver and teak. And I bet at least half of you are tilting your heads trying to recall if a) cashmere wood is really present on this planet in a natural form, or is this another man-made unicorn scent... and b) why, oh why didn't I pay more attention to the smell of teak wood, that one time I was on a boat in my life?! Longevity and sillage are mediocre. Yet again, I talk myself into giving it one more chance before I throw it to the wolves of commerce. Through some sort of pythoness trickery, the bottle goes back on the shelf. So maybe there is some validity to the mash-up perfume party after all. Maybe its compelling enough, that I can't give up the struggle to understand these wacky nuances of, (what I can only assume), a bipolar shift by the creators. Maybe, in its thriving chaos, we find some order - and that disposition is worthy of consideration.....maybe.

ALC555

I love the dark chocolate note and the greenness it projects. A wonderful new unisex cologne for me. The lavander gives it a barbershop flavor favorable for men to wear uniquely. It is not 100% feminine among the light fragrances common nowadays. It has a masculine vibe that no men will feel insecure when they spray on themselves. A nice discovery.

Jacquis

I purchased SJP Covet looking forward to a unique perfume to fit into my collection. Alas, Covet smells very similar to Guerlain Allegoria Herba Fresca on my skin, in the summertime. Minty, green aromatic but with a slight warmth. I don't detect chocolate nor lavender. It's 86F today so maybe I'll have a different experience in cooler temps. Since Covet is an EDP and lasts a bit longer, I'll keep it. I enjoy Covet though it is not so unique. I even got a flash of Mugler Aura in the dry down.

MiniMena

I blind bought this about 12 years ago. It was on a clearance rack . I didn't really think I'd like it. Its a unique fragrance but to me it smells beautiful. It is not a cheery or sexy fragrance but more of a sultry autumn scent. I hadn't had this perfume for several years but recently found it online and purchased it. It brings back memories of a special time in my life. Also it is kind of moody and thick....Great for fall and winter with its spicy, floral, musky notes. It opens fresh and spicy then dries down into a softer musky scent. I love it!

figwasp

I so badly want to love this, but I don't. On me it's like yes, there's lavender, and there's chocolate, but they don't seem to have noticed each other and exist entirely independently of each other with no relationship. And... that's it?

Lovaloo

Covet has unique notes and lots of positive reviews on this website. I was so impressed with Stash I blind bought Covet hoping to get another fantastic cheapie. Unfortunately Covet doesn't exactly measure up to the high bar set by Stash.

On initial spray I get lemon and chemicals. After two minutes the lemon scent had disappeared and the only thing I could smell on my wrist was a cocktail of chemicals.

At first I thought the bottle might be off, but I quickly realized the bottle is fine. I'm no perfume aficionado, but I can tell you that the quality of ingredients are much lower in Covet than they are in Stash. Unfortunately I'm not accustomed to fragrances that smell this artificial. My nose needed a good half hour to adjust. I can better make out what this is supposed to smell like now, but it still smells very harsh and chemical to me.

I don't intend to offend anyone who enjoys Covet, but this burns the back of my throat. It smells like a lemon & lavender scented cleaning product. It's truly repulsive. I get faint whiffs of chocolate & floral notes, but on my skin this is primarily a cheap floor cleaner.

Sometimes you get what you pay for... and unfortunately I can't return this. I don't know what to do with it.

ameda

A light, greenish aromatic floral with middling performance. Not as engaging as the notes would suggest. Not unisex at all for me. I don't hate it, but I wouldn't wear it either.

heyjupiter

This is both ethereal but familiar and homely- a strange combination. It is haunted throughout by the soft fragrance of old polished wood which seems to be in room that has earthy-sweet scarlet leafy geraniums blooming ln the window. From outside the scent of bee-covered lavender and lemon balm breeze in and out-, honeysuckle is shedding it's last petals- summer is fading. There is a wooden box of expensive beautifully fashioned chocolates on the table and a fine china cup of steaming minty lemony tea. I just find this elegant, mysterious, reserved and fascinating and it is one of my very favourite perfumes.

Seaworthy

Okay...I am all about unique smelling fragrances. I love fragrances that combine unusual notes and this one seemed to fit that criteria from the notes and with the many positive reviews. I have to say this is one of the most disappointing fragrances that I own. My bottle is produced by Coty 2017. It literally has ZERO fragrance on my skin or clothes after 15 mins. It performs deplorably on me. Smells like bug spray in the top, then something vaguely sweet, no chocolate, then poof! It's gone.

qofb

The review below mine says it all. You can just read that and treat it as gospel, it's a very good description of the Covet experience.

This perfume definitely has many facets and you don't know which one you are going to get when you take sniff, but it's very much a journey. I've smelt all that the previous reviewer described. I've definitely experienced the whiff of bug spray too, which is what the fragrance smells like when first sprayed on me, it then goes to honeysuckle, then chocolate, then woody. It lasts a long time, but sillage is limited.

It's a weird one and I like it but I can see why people wouldn't. It's odd because I remember smelling Covet when it first came out and I really didn't think it was this much of a fragrance journey, was there a formula change with the handover of the perfume from Coty to the Lovely distribution company or was I just not sniffing hard enough?

I'm not sure how the flanker perfume sits with Covet either. The flanker, Covet Pure Bloom is just a simple, pretty scent, with no connection to the original fragrance other than its bottle. Covet is nothing like it, it's complicated. Covet is the moody older sister who's gone through a lot of phases; some that were fun, some that she regrets, but is just about getting a good job now and keeping the partying to weekends (mostly). Covet Pure Bloom is the straight Bs sister, steady dependable, looks after her old grandmother and has a cat. I like both, but they require totally different moods and mindsets to enjoy.

I do think Covet has been discontinued. I could only find it on eBay in the UK, but Covet Pure Bloom seemed to be more prevalent. The price for Covet on eBay was only about £15 inc. postage for 100ml so if you want to try it, it's not much money at all to chance a blind buy.

BlueBerrycherry

Absolutely disgusting scent. This smells like window cleaner.

smellysmello

There's nothing else in my collection like Covet. It's a pretty bizzaro fragrance experience that I think has gone under-appreciated. It wasn't popular enough as a mass market release for non-perfume people to know it, and being a cheapie celebrity scent serious perfume fans weren't inclined to seek it out.

No surprise it wasn't a big seller - a shopper smelling Covet on a card or trying a test spray could be put off by the top note of citronella (aka bug spray smell). But stay with it and Covet will take you on an ever-changing, never-boring ride.

Covet might be odd, you may even find it unpleasant, but linear it is not. It morphs from camphorous minty greenness, to musky, chocolately lilac, to citrusy, honeysuckle with vetiver and woods. I don't mean it evolves through these stages - I mean it might evoke any of these on any random sniff of the wrist throughout the day. The green and chocolate notes are a consistent thread to provide some cohesiveness but all the notes fade in and out to make Covet a unique shape-shifter. I wouldn't consider Covet to be a sexy date fragrance, but it's fun, interesting and ageless.

I've read that after the success of Lovely SJP was able to be more daring in the creation of Covet. She pushed to develop something unisex and unusual with a niche sensibility... Successful on all counts in my opinion!

Projection is noticeable but not intrusive. Covet has powerhouse longevity of 10-12 hours on my skin so the adventure lasts a good long time.

Aland2020

Such a unique fragrance. I’d have expected this out of some funky niche or abstract designer house (Like Balenciaga) but never in a million years would I think the same celebrity that endorsed or created “Lovely” could also come up with this. I’m getting the lavender, with something powdery. A touch of lemon, that creamy cocoa note (it smells like what I’d imagine Mocklate from that one Friends episode to entail), and a slightly woody drydown? I’m picking up the cashmere wood. No musk present (and based off of how much is present in the aforementioned Lovely, thank God!) It’s got great lasting power as well, and noticeable sillage, especially when I spray two sprays in the same spot I find that I’m able to build up the coverage. I can’t say that I’m in love with this, but it’s so strange and odd, it’s squirreled it’s way onto my already extensive want list. I know if I let the opportunity to own this pass me by I’d regret it. And I have been working through my decant honestly: it’s almost empty. I’m gonna want to have more of this around just to spray it and knit my brows in curious wonder at all its quirks that I find endearing.

I smell Trouble. The Boucheron kind. Given the time at which this fragrance debuted, it is possible the early 2000s Boucheron gem inspired Covet’s citrusy, woody, yet sultry quality. Bergamot, grassy notes, powdery lavender and spicy cocoa are a bit discordant at first, but soon Covet leaves cleaning product territory. At its heart, sweet white florals, woods and musk emerge. I can see why it didn’t connect with everyone but the contrasting powdery-spicy bits make me want to keep this one around. I find Covet sensual and intriguing, when applied with a lighter hand.

yaddayaddayana

This is a perfume that has me sniffing my wrist all day. And not necessarily because its a good smell, but because it's so strange. I still can't determine whether or not I like this fragrance. The opening is dreadful. Sharp and lemony and acidic like cleaning supplies. After drying down some, it smells very green. Foresty and almost medicinal. Kinda musty. It's hard to pinpoint specific notes initially, other than the lemon. Unfortunately I hate this lemon note. It stands out like a sore thumb in this fragrance. After a bit longer, the cocoa comes out. Its not a sweet chocolate note, but a bitter dry cocoa that adds to its natural vibe, resembling the smell of dirt. The lavender is a light hum, overshadowed by the lemon, but is responsible for the medicinal vibe, I presume. I also detect mint, though unlisted as a note. The mint is sharp to the nose, but fresh.

The thing that intrigues me most about this fragrance is that it seems to change constantly. My nose picks up on the notes at different times making it feel like the fragrance switches from musty forest to lemony chutney to powdery lavender. The weird blend of notes is overwhelming to my system, but intriguing and captivating. It draws attention. I still can't determine whether or not I think it smells good, but its a fragrance I'm happy to have in my collection and I'm always surprised by it when I wear it.

oneofheralteregos

In your face kinda fragrance and it chokes me in a first spray. Hard pass.

—}—@ darlingbud

Bubbles1964 of the bike-riding bovine avatar, I am going to have to stop reading your reviews. They make me Covet.

chrystelsinclair

This one is complicated.

I got this perfume back when it came out. I never liked Lovely but I thought this one to be rather on the interesting side.

I wore it very rarely as I didn't know if I liked it or not. It has gotten notes that I really liked and others that made me gag. I can't put the finger in what's wrong.

This scent is sharp, floral and unique. Not sweet at all like some people have commented and not chocolaty either!

Feminine at times and masculine at others. And... I wonder if maybe this is what bothered me. This is not a clear feminine/unisex/masculine perfume it changes throughout the day, at least on my skin. I get a boost of vetiver which I like but on my husband not on me. I also love love love woody scents, but for some reason, this wood is very dark and heavy.

The dry down is not as harsh, it's actually powdery and floral. It's not enough for me to re-buy it. I actually sold my bottle.

bel.gravia

I can clearly smell cocoa powder, levander and a hint of lemon.
It is a dry 80% cocoa chocolate again with levander and lemon. That's what it smells like. The bottle is ugly af but the scent isn't that bad after all. Suits the deep green/ brown kinda theme. I would not wear it much, no, floral woody musky perfumes are not my cup of tea, so I am passing this cup of tea to my mother.

colibri_classique

Very nice surprise. I'm not into celebrity perfumes, but I caved in and ordered this. Very nice, lovely and pretty unusual. Already ordered a backup bottle because Basenotes says it has been discontinued. I also got Covet Pure Bloom (nice but not as much as Covet) and Lovely. Lovely didn't impress me much, sorry to say. The only problem with this gem is the longevity. But it is a cheapie after all, so I cannot make too much of a fuss. This was definitely a successful blind buy.

Bubbles1964

I’m in heaven. Not your typical celebrity scent, this one has a soft chocolate twist. Opening is fresh lavender and citrus, very aromatic; the wood base and smooth chocolate helps take this into unisex territory. Really a wonderful surprise—nothing screechy or artificial— lasting a couple of hours.

I refuse to add to my large collection, which means I need to let go of a bottle before I buy Covet, which I am doing momentarily. This is discontinued but you can easily find it new online, 50ml for about $18 US.

Covet, my favorite cheapie of all time.

I now need to check out other SJP perfumes, because this thing knocked my socks off.

—————————————————————

2 days Later: I own it.

WijayantiKusuma

I just smell it today, i know it’s kinda late. I don’t care about SJP perfumes collection because i simply dislike Lovely. Initially i bought a Covet miniature only for adding my minis collection. Oh gosh, i keep telling myself why i only discovered this gem recently. This one, straight up a baby powder in my nose. After awhile, i could smell sweet cacao and gentle musk with baby powder on the background. It’s odd, not a gourmand type, but it’s sweet. I can’t stop smelling my wrist.

Greenhouse

It certainly helps that I didn't know what to expect from this fragrance because even after trying it, I have no idea what to make of it. I can't say whether I like or dislike it; what I can say is that I simply cannot stop smelling it. It is an absolutely bizarre puzzle of a fragrance.

On my skin, it doesn't develop much at all. It sits on the surface, a sort of plastic wall with bits of mint popping through. A creamy wall of lemon and lavender pushes right to the top--not the natural extracts, mind, but the sort of 'lemon and lavender' combination that you might find in a scented candle. Everything in this fragrance has been modified in some way, as if each ingredient has been suspended in wax. It is a verisimilitude of nature, not at all what one would expect from a 'green' or 'herbaceous' scent.

There is a certain sterility and artifice to it. As someone who wears a lot of wood, smoke, resin, and patchouli fragrances, this is far outside of my comfort zone. I'm an earthy tree child; this fragrance is the opposite. It is a window basket full of polished geraniums in a rain-washed urban landscape. The stems are wax; the petals are silk. It is shiny, metallic, and artificial--intriguing in its own way, but worlds away from the forest greens.

I can see this unfolding beautifully, maybe when I've gotten used to the notes. Today, for me, it simply sits on top of my skin. I look forward to trying it on another day, in different weather, and seeing what happens. This is a fascinating, challenging fragrance.

lrnonken

Pleasant, fresh and green, a bit unique. Compared to lovely it is lighter with less projection or strength

shushkin

I tried this a few years back and could barely stretch to a like. I decided it was time to have another go. Every perfume deserves another go. Our bodies are walking chemical soups that have a great affect on a perfume. Unfortunately it's particularly the case for us gals.
Second time around and I like it. I find it soft and pretty. Nothing crisp or zingy. Even more amazing that lavender and lemon is very minimal on me. I LOVE lavender and lemon.
This is more like a scent with a bit of everything in. It's hard to identify individual notes.
I'm so pleased that the lavender and lemon do surface a little more with time.

The overall affect is a slightly warm, wood scent with an aromatic and chocolate twist. It is quite a unique scent. Possibly a unisex scent if you are a fella with a sweet tooth although it's not very sweet.

A scent for casual days and on your hols. Perfect if you don't want to smell like everyone else. This is no candy sweet creation like sadly many of the mainstream remain.

It smells good in any temperatures. It's a great cheapy!!

yukoyuko

Diaryofsmallthings

Quite simply magic in a bottle. I adore it. Easily a signature scent of mine. It smells just so... me. I love the crispy, wet green opening, the lemon, the creamy chocolate (almost white chocolate or cocoa buttery) vibe and the musk it settles into. It's complex and to die for, lasts forever and is wearable anywhere. Love. Love. Love.

DrRosie

This is the only celebrity scents I have been able to tolerate and I found this to be very pleasing to the nose and somewhat elegant. I will buy this again.

Albertos

Hi. Oh my God! what a wonderful unisex, I got it for 15 euros, something delicious yummy, lemon cream, lemon cake. A beautiful bottle, very good durability, I still smell it, I think it's a fragrance for all seasons, sweet and delicious and very warm. I recommend for women and men, it's typical unisex ... Projection and long lasting scent.10 / 10..niche perfumery. I'm happy I got it.
  it's a pearl. BRAVO ... I LOVE SJP.

Cess268

I don't sense a lot of chocolate in this. I get mostly warm green citrus vibes from this scent. Nice for a casual autum wear. Definately not your average celebrity sweet scent. Everyone can not pull this one off. Reccomend try before u buy.

Amascent

This is sinfully good! So different from everything else. I hate the fact that it's a "celebrity" perfume because usually they're generic and expected. But this omg... i had it in 2007-8-9 ish when it first came out and kept repurchasing it. It's divine. Beyond different. To this day there's nothing else on the market like it at all. I challenge you to find something similar because it just doesn't exist. The rich sweet chocolate mixed with lavender and sicilian lemons with a smokey wooody deep base all make this sooo unique. Things that shouldn't work together, but they do. It's so complex. Crisp yet rich and deep, warm, creamy, bright, citrusy, chocolatey, and dark. Its a play for all your sences, contrasting notes that just work. I recently smelled this again. And now have to find a bottle. I still love this scent so much, it's just something so different from everything I own, so I want to have this in my perfume rotation again. Covet, I've missed you, and I'll be shopping for you very soon.

JustSimpleThings

I just tried today - at first I wasn't sure whether I was liking it as the opening was a bit 'screechy', but oh boy did it deliver!!!
Fresh lavender, lily of the valley and mixed with chocolate - it's heaven in a scent. Damn, trying new fragrances is bad for my wallet.

thatsperf

One of my most successful blind buys, Sarah Jessica Parker's 'Covet'. I managed to get this for less then 10 Euros for a 100 ml bottle at a perfume shop in my city.
Very green-vegetation-lavender heavy with a dose of chocolate and woods. I keep imagining walking in the woods with lavender along the path while eating chocolate as well as hearing the sound of my shoes stepping on wet grass. It is rather strong and heady on my skin so one or two sprays are enough. Longevity about 10 hours roughly. Covet is very similar to a perfume I own (Not in Fragrantica database, come on guys and girls!) called 'Lilac Wine' by Art Meets Perfume... to my huge surprise Frank Voelkl created this one too! Lilac Wine is very similar to Covet but with less chocolate.
This is worlds apart from Lovely. It's rather unisex and can be worn by men or women. Such a shame that it is discontinued. Go grab a bottle if you have the opportunity.

DT953

Covet is one of my all time favourite fragrances. It truly doesn't smell like anything else on the market, especially in the affordable celebrity scent scene. I have a 2009 bottle that I purchased from a local chemist so it's seemingly pre-reformulation. Even my old 2013 bottle smelt similar, though, so it probably doesn't really change much over the years.

This is so very yummy. It tastes edible, but also has a bitey green aspect to it. The lavender is so well blended with the citruses and chocolate that it feels totally disconnected from nature and I adore that. It lasts so long and shifts and changes from the weird, brash opening to the comforting and gourmand-esque phase in the dry down.

I like to layer this on top of Sleepy body lotion from Lush to give it a creamy vanilla/tonka feel, and later on (in the late dry down) spray some of my Brin de Reglisse to put a little sweet spiciness. It's really nice. :)

DebiL1211

I cannot say how much I truly like this perfume. I purchased a (older bottle) 30 ml bottle of this and I have to say it is very lovely. I can see it being an all weather type fragrance. I get the lavender, lemon, chocolate, and geranium at first spray. After it dries down I only get this cashmere blanket of lavender and lemon with the slightest hint of chocolate that wafts about every now and then. This is a nice feminine fragrance. It is not sweet or overpowering. With six sprays it sits at arms length and I have been wearing it for 8 hours and I can still smell it.

Longevity: 8 + hours

Sillage: arm's length

Full bottle worthy: absolutely

Safe blind buy: I don't think so. It is so complex that I can see this working or not working depending on chemistry.

wanderingaroundthegarden

This is the most ' out there' perfume I've come across in all my years of being obsessed with perfume in general. Even before you sniff or spray it...the bottle! Chartreuse is one of my favorite colours, and you just don't see 'fumes rocking this colour. And the unusual cap..as someone said, it looks like a fawcett. The scent is at first citrussy and green, then gets peppery, woody, musky, Lily of the valley, drying down to a woody green fresh musk. It was discontinued, I looked everywhere online...No sign of it. Then the other day I was astounded to find it available again and went out and got a big bottle.I haven't opened it yet, but I'll be interested to see how it compares to the old powerhouse it was before being discontinued. It's winter here and I was going to save it for summer, but I doubt that I will be able to wait that long!

lisajmunro

I don't know what it is about this fragrance but I just really hate it. Looking at the notes, I really like them all individually, but I just hate the way this smells.
Really sharp, maybe even sour. It really doesn't mix well with my body chemistry at all.

Alces Alces

MossyBerry, I love the idea of a Take Your Edgy Perfume to Work Day! Sign me up.

The lemon, musk, and weird chocolate in this make it an extremely playful and avant garde type of scent, definitely edgy. I love Blue Jeans by Shulton. Wish Vermont Country Store or someone would reissue that great scent. If memory serves it was a cross between Avon Wild Country, Love's Fresh Lemon, and Dana Canoe. Thanks for mentioning Blue Jeans. It came in a bizarre mushroom looking yellow and blue bottle. So seventies. Now I need to retry Covet to see whether I get that Blue Jeans vibe.

MossyBerry

Whenever I wear it I enjoy it. I think it needs a day at the office with me to get to know it better (take your edgy perfume to work day), but it is just off-kilter enough that I have not tried that. I give it a love because of the lemon/magnolia note which is very natural to me. Though I don't consider musk as one of my best notes, the musk in this is one of the phases I enjoy. In the 1970's Shulton made a scent call Blue Jeans. I don't remember it exactly, but I think it had lemon and musk too. Somehow this made me think of it. EDIT - I was able to test some of the Shulton Blue Jeans and they are not very close.

TankGirl

I blind bought this for a very cheap price on my local Perfume Shop, I read all the reviews and still, this was a major surprise.
I was not prepared for this scent to be so unisex. Not sure if they reformulated it but this scent is definitely very very masculine to my nose.
Top notes remind me of the lavender of Yves Saint Laurent L'homme Nuit.
Fresh, zesty herbal and green, like an aftershave almost.
A few minutes after it dries down to this sexy musky scent, sweetened by the cocoa powder but still very masculine, daring and elegant, think Diane Keaton or Rene Russo. Slightly androgynous, interesting, out of the ordinary.
I am glad I bought it and I understand why it might not appeal to the masses, nevertheless, niche lovers should try this as well.

Edit: I think this works fantastically as a room spray, on my skin I find it a bit too herbal, but as a room spray this is just perfect, fresh but chocolaty, I love to come home to this scent!

JenSin

Fresh, green and bright. The coco powder adds a little spicy/bitter edge that draws you in. The musk and wood in the base anchors it nicely. Alluring and unusual. Very affordable as an added bonus.

indigo

I find Covet a really odd perfume. It smells kind of oily to me with a hint of unwashed scalp about it. I can't really pick up lavender or much chocolate. It's vaguely candied citrus & vaguely geranium, & that "oiliness" (no idea what is creating that effect on me). The green aspect is fairly warm (& a touch "murky") & it's not a fresh sort of green to my senses. The musky base notes also sit very sweet & warm on me too. It feels as though they had a great concept for something fresh, green, & unusual, but then got cold feet & decided to play it safe by "sugaring" it all up - resulting in confusion & weirdness (imho). I think it would feel more cohesive if dark chocolate & fresh lavender notes were amped up a bit - well, by a lot tbh!

I've had this a while now & I still don't actually know if like it or hate it, but it is quite intriguing. A perfume I keep sniffing away at when I put it on - not really in a "this is lovely" sense, but more in a bewildered "what on earth am I smelling here" sort of way! I think the idea of chocolate & lavender is a really good one, & perhaps if this was of better quality it could be excellent. Covet is quite interesting, ...but it'll never be a love for me. I understand this has been reformulated and older bottles are better, this review is for a new bottle.

Update Jul 2019: I cannot wear this to bed, it keeps me awake with its strangeness...I think it's becoming a dislike.

Annemarie

For years I could only find a mild liking for Covet. Eventually I picked up a bottle for $20 on the strength of rumours that Covet was going to be discontinued (a great idea - lavender and chocolate - wasted at the cheap end of the market, so I heard).

And yet after all these years it is still a regular on the shelves at discount chemists in Australia, going as strong as ever. Its success is pleasing for those of us who lament a perfume landscape dominated by flankers of flankers of fragrances that were never very good to begin with.

I still don't love Covet but I'm very glad it exists.

perfumeaddiction

I am really happy to add this one back into my perfume Arsenal once again. I tried it when it first came out and really didn't appreciate it so I got rid of it. I decided to add it once again to my collection and I'm so glad I did. This is such a unique fragrance that smells very clean very different unlike a lot of the mainstream fragrances out there. One thing I noticed is this perfume has a lot of oil and it has really good staying power so to me it was made very well. If you're looking for something different give it a try.

GardeniaLover

The reason for the clean smell is of course lavender, it is now associated with bathrooms and cleaning products, and why not, lavender does smell clean, but the lavender I get on Covet is not only clean but sweet, it is not the herbal kind but the sweet french kind, which is clean and floral sweet.

petitegourmandisesbisous

So many people love this perfume and I wish I was one of them. This really is lemony but unfortunately rather than a freshly squeezed lemon, it smells like some sort of cleaning detergent and NOT a good one :( sorry but this just isn't good to my nose.

Shadow_Witch

I love the shape of this bottle and the quirky cap. It reminds me of beauty packaging from the 1970s. On my skin this smells like vintage Jean Nate dusted with dutch processed cocoa powder. I have the original formulation by Coty. It lasts well over 24 hours on my skin and continues to evolve through all the notes until it's very last breath.

GardeniaLover

This fragrance is Covet, but it is also Lovely, hmm its just a very pleasant scent, the white florals, the chocolate, the lemon, the lavender, it is all well blended.
The lemon is not offensive but candied, sweet like lemon drops, the lavender I feel is French, sweet but still herbal and powdery, it plays a big role in the scent from top to bottom, the woods to me are almost cookie-like, teak and cashmere, the white florals add creaminess, and yes the background chocolate is there and will not suffocate the scent.

It smells delightful, sweet, gentle, its Covet but also Lovely, and Parker is such a fashion icon, a feminine icon, anyone who remembers Carrie will understand. The cocoa and lavender are just so, so good. This scent is well worth the price to add to your collection specifically your lavender ones. It's romantic, it's smart, it's classy, it's sweet, it's warm but also cool, I covet that. The commercial is just so lovely too, Covet In Paris, just a perfect vision of the scent, a French lavender one.

PS, chocolate lavender, I am in heaven, I love this perfume!

top notes: wet greens, geranium leaves, sicilian lemon and chocolate.
heart notes: honeysuckle, magnolia, mugger and michelia yunnanensis.
base notes: musk, vetiver, teakwood and amber.

AaronStar

The bottle nozzle smells like fresh lemon, first impressions are citric and herbal lavender, it develops and I can smell sweetness, green freshness. The heart is filled with white florals and woods, with some musk. The cocoa is there, at first like white chocolate and then dark chocolate, it is not prominent. I would consider this as a sort of lavender scent to be honest, just like Lovely, a sort of lavender fresh scent. But the white florals add creamy textures to it and balance it out, the white florals are there, soft, blooming and bright.

There is no real green notes to it, but the lemon and lavender for freshness. The woods I can smell them, teak wood and cashmere woods, I smell the woody notes clearly, they are pleasant, the musk is there but not overtly. The dry down is still sweetish, I can sense some cocoa warmth, sweet lavender, the cocoa/lavender scent is so pleasant.
The bottle is nice, the brown flower top is pretty, it is all nice. The scent is floral, citrus, woodsy to my nose, it's pleasant, sweetish, gentle. People who love lavender would like this as they would Lovely. It reminds me of lavender scents like Drakkar, but in a different composition, lighter, sweeter, woody, but still a lavender fragrance. I like it, and on sale, it is worth adding to your collection.

Sailor Pluto

For those who like hair products that match their perfume, you can use Garnier Fructis - Nourishing Treat with Coconut Extract - 1 Minute Hair Mask. It smells EXACTLY like SJP's Covet perfume.

Sofia Jones

It took me a while to decide if I wanted to buy this fragrance because I had no way to smell it before buying it, and the mix of lavender, lemon and chocolate notes didn't really seem like it would work. After I bought it, the first couple of times it smelled fresh in the beginning, and the chocolate note would come in during the drydown. Now when I wear it, I can smell the freshness of the lavender and lemon notes, and the sweetness of the chocolate as well, right when I apply the perfume. This is a really pretty scent.

louiee

Never have I ever smelled such a soft floral beauty.
I`m seriously falling in love with SJP` s fragrance Line.
Covet is soft, creamy, clean and super feminine.
Opens with citrus that turne into the most pleasant lavender, lily-of-the-valley and musky scent.
What a surprice....this is love for me. The price is definetely lower than the quality.
Its classy, subtle and every occasion.
Silage and longevity is average on me.

Eternity Girl

What a strange beautiful baby this is. It took me 7 years before I could make sense of it but when I did.....oh it was love !!
I get the initial glue blast but quickly followed by the Lemon, Lavender, raw usweetened cacao wowzer in equal measure.
It is a very refreshing scent. I have a sensation of coolness (as in temperature) and clarity of mind and emotions.
My 100ml will last me my lifetime as I don't wear it often but when I do its a joy.

It truly is unique. There is nothing quite like it to my knowledge.

margrietmae

This smells like hot sex finished with a warm cashmere-like, cozy and creamy layering.
Love!
My first perfume with cocoa and I adore it.

SJP is quickly becoming one of my favorite lines. Covet did not disappoint!
So green and citrus at first spritz, the lavender and chocolate make their way in and mix softly with the initial notes. As with almost all other SJPs, the drydown to musk is so lovely. All in all, this is so weird, and I mean this as a compliment, in a way that she should be pulled out of the celebrity category and moved directly to the niche perfumes.

I did a search for chocolate scents and the reviews for this one made it sound too “weird” not to try! The Dali scents are my all-time favorites, so weird is my flavor. This is that.
At first spray: Sharp, green, citrusy, with a distinct funk. It’s like one of those weird experimental cocktails at an underground bar where the only light is the backlight behind the bottle display. You’re too hip to send a drink back, but the more you drink it the more you start to like it.
Later: Distinct greenery with a dark note of natural chocolate. To me it’s like it’s “warming up” after that first iced cocktail. It still has some coolness to it, fresh but not stark.
Much later: Warm, earthy and dirty. I LOVE this stage of this smell, a couple of hours in, and this phase lasts well into the next day. It’s a true chocolate smell, not sweet or candy, with earthy leafy goodness. It’s understatedly sexy. The vetiver, musk and chocolate are still discernible to me the next day, which is such a cozy, sexy, almost dirty combo. The only way I could like this scent more is if it started this way.

MWROMO

This scent can be easily mistaken for a niche fragrance. It is very unique and has the most intriguing combination of notes. Very nice for evening or when you want to smell different but fascinating. Its just odd fragrance but in beautiful way, perhaps because of teak wood or pelargonium leaves? Overall it is a very nice scent.

Selena

She makes some fine scents!
She really puts thought & work into it, I can picture her sniffing the formula until they get it right! Spray this on your inner elbow, make sure the weather is warm, give it 2-3 hours to work its magic❤️
I can smell the cocoa and a tiny tad bit of lemon.
Sillage isn't major, but it does last. And that's good enough for me.

Cinnamon1970

"And how do we begin to covet, Clarice? " (с) One of my favourites. Unusual, unexpected. Very musky, woody, mossy. And I can feel ...mushrooms there! Moist, after a rainy day. "Doctor, am I ok?")))))))

AHeartLikeMine

This is an interesting fragrance that definitely evolves as you wear it. It starts out with a mishmash of top notes that have no particularly distinctive scent. Then, you start to get some hints of florals. Finally, the lavender and mint emerge. After the drydown, there is also a lot of powder/musk.

I, for some idiotic reason, sold my half full 100mL and thought 'hey I have a first release miniature, why would I need anything more? I have enough.'

Honey, no. This is an incredible fragrance and one can never have enough. I haven't seen it anywhere, either... I'm really quite gutted by this. Anyway, it's a rookie mistake.

The scent itself is absolutely phenomonal. The formulations didn't change much between 2007 & 2015 which is quite impressive, admirable even. Cocoa powder in the beginning that's not too dry and not too sweet. The lavender's presence is debatable. It's there, but it's alien. In saying that, Covet is to lavender and cocoa as Alien is to jasmine and vanilla. Strange, unusual. The citruses in the opening, specifically that fresh lemon, give it a beautiful zing. The teak wood in the base (I know it when I smell it - thank you, Fracas Pour Homme) is stunning. The lily of the valley gives of a tart, fruity scent - almost like apple. I've heard this scent referred to as green and that confuses me a little, but I'll take it with the addition that it may be a small amount of synthetic galbanum that they're smelling. Anyway, it needn't be debated. This is a solid, totally original fragrance that can't really be copied.

carrico1986

Chocolate/Lime & Musk. I remember loving this scent and I remember getting a lot of compliments on it as well. It lasted 4+ hours on me and the silage was good.

lulu169

indeed, the new Version by Lovely Company is a comletely different fragrance - I didn´t know when I was buying it, but I´m no disapouinted - dindt like teh chocolate and levandel in the original one so I like this plain citrussy scent much better. but again, it has completely nothing to do with the original Covet...they should have naem it differently, it´s pretty confusing for the customer then

MsKayJae

A well made inexpensive unisex aromatic gourmand fume. If you forgot about the price point and the fact it's a celebrity scent you'd think it was a niche fragrance and you'd forgive it of it's quirky blend of notes.
As it is Covet is a fresh blend of chocolatey lemon, lavender and green florals with a warm woodsy finish. A friendly and memorable fragrance.

Lilacs&Lavender

My review is for the original, now discontinued formulation.

I couldn’t agree more with the review by JackieM, so please read her review before buying Covet without trialling it. If however, you enjoy novel fragrances, go for it. The original is still widely available at low prices.

Covet can’t really be defined, and it is difficult to understand. It reminds me of that likeable kid in class who wore a pony tail on their forehead. Why? Attention seeking? Fashion forward, or simply a wonderful weirdo? That’s not to say that I dislike it, but it’s unlovable. Equally, the chartreuse juice and chocolate brown daisy stopper are a little jarring for me, but .... interesting.

I admire the ingenuity of the note recipe, but this cleverness doesn’t translate into an easily digestible meal. I DO enjoy the cacao opening, but Covet is a light fragrance (unless I overspray) which is at odds with the warmth of chocolate. Something seems to be missing to make it whole. I might try layering this with a vanilla fragrance and see what my recipe turns out like. Eton Mess probably.

Thanks PipeDreams for your updated review! :)

PipeDreams#1

I was asked by another member of Fragrantica to post a review of the new updated version of Covet that SJP is selling on her beauty site under her company, The Lovely Collection. I was utterly bummed to find that this is not the amazing classic I once adored and claimed as my signature scent. Previously bottled under the Coty brand, this new version has that same lemon-y opening as the original but it almost immediately started to fade into a vaguely powdery amber. I'm not getting the awesome cocoa powder that the original had. It was also a much more muted version and did not last as long as the original. I'll test it again and luckily I still have a couple more bottles of the original formula. Bummer!

Several years ago ( maybe 8 or so) i have won a gift set of Covet on one Facebook page a recieved a 100ml perfume plus shower gel and body lotion set. I have smelked it back then and i couldnt make up my mind how i feel about this fragrance so i gifted it to my mom. She rarely uses perfumes so she never used it so when i came to her place one day this spring and didnt have any perfume on and wanted to put something i have found nothing that i could wear from her fragrances and then i have found this gift set still not used. She didnt like it... i sprayed myself with it during cold spring day and from that day im obsessed with this fragrance. It is soooo unique in my opinion, i cant think of anything else like it. Its crispy, zesty and buttery bitter at all the same time at once. That lemony note with musk and geranium... oooh.. aaah.. yum!! Sooooo delish... and the body lotion was still intact after all these years and its soooo gorg... long lasting and lingering.... i still dont smell a chocolate note that much... but it suppose to be dark chocolate so it has a very modest smell itself. Main notes i smells are lemon, geranium, musk, lavender and a hint of magnolia. But all yogether its a unique blend of notes that i strangely like now and not back then
Niw during summer im using body lotion on my legs and perfume on mh hair and its so freakingly intoxicating in a good way... honey child, where have you been all of these years, my lovely (ok, i loove her Lovely as well, one of my all time favorites).
I read that its made now not by Coty, but i guess i still have one of the original batches and its simply amazing. Now i finally understand raving reviews about this fragrance but i didnt then.
I had to have it indeed, so its now mine!!!!
:)

I don't know how useful this review can be, but I have to agree with the previous reviewer who succinctly states that in theory the idea is wonderful but...would she choose to wear it?

It captures how I feel as well. I do like this and would wear it if it landed in my hands but I do not think I could spend $40 (at Rexall Drugs) to obtain it.

The opening is quite intriguing, lavender and grass and a warmth (chocolate?). The mid is less intense but still unique and playful. The dry down is very lovely, and before it completely settles I feel like I smell like leather...?

The lasting impression is very soft and subtle, but still intriguing and unique. Fresh yet comforting. Like a green amber?

I enjoy when a unique scent is introduced to the mainstream, and I like this but not enough to spend the $$$ on it. Again, it's lovely but I'm not sure of the occasion which would call for it, at least in my current lifestyle!

bornglobals

Beware of musk!

It was a blind buy based on Fragrantica provided notes. I love lavender and I was intrigued. The opening is amazing - smells like sweet Earl Gray with fresh lemon in it. Sadly, after only 5 minutes it dries down to musk and stays musky. I dislike musky scents so I am very disappointed. Pass for me.

musenkata

I can call this ''lemonade''. So soft that i can't even smell anything.

JackieM

A truly unique creation. It's hard to even think of another fragrance that could be categorized with it, at least at my level of experience with perfume. Some really unlikely notes going at once.

There's a citrus-chocolate blend here that in theory is very delicious. Add to that the powdery or herbal notes and it is less edible and more fresh, but it now has a lot of character.

Yet somehow I can't say I love it. It is season-less yet I can't think of a specific kind of day that I would want to reach for it. It is neither warm nor cool, inviting or intimidating. It isn't really modern per se, but it doesn't evoke any particular era either. I can't even bring to mind the type of woman who might embody the "Covet" persona.

In short, as I see it this is a wonderful success in fragrance theory, but in translation to imagination or feeling, it loses most of its advantage.

New York, early September 2007.
I remember vividly walking around and seeing many ads all around Manhattan with Sarah Jessica Parker wearing a fancy white dress, long black gloves and holding a green bottle in her hands, infront of a shattered shop window. So of course I was curious to try it.
I went to Macy's and got a free sample of Covet. It was love at first sniff! After I finished it I bought the first of many bottles and gift sets of this awesome perfume, with body lotion and solid perfume.
Let's say it's all about sensations: chocolate, lavander, geranium, sicilian lemon ... the result is something special, peculiar, never tried before. The lasting power is strong, as well as the sillage.
I bought it recently a new bottle on Sjp beauty and discovered it's produced again; its formulation is different, somehow not as strong as the first.
Love the commercial too, set in Place Vendome, Paris.
The 50 ml bottle is absolutely gorgeus; the 100 ml a little less because too big and less gracious.
A wonderful fragrance that makes you feel like walking in green fields during warm summer days. LOVE!

I love Stash, so I swapped for Covet when I got the chance. I don't regret it, but I can't say I love the fragrance. This is a very confusing one for me.

It's undoubtedly lemony (someone compared the citrus to citronella, which is apt) and softly mentholated like lavender, but it has a warmth in the base (the chocolate?) that keeps this from being easily pegged as a 'fresh' fragrance. On paper, I should love Covet, but it's just okay to me. I think the reason for this is that Covet doesn't go all in on any one of its aspects--it tries to be fresh, it tries to be sweet, it tries to be aromatic, but it fails at being any one of those things. It's like a casserole made of random leftovers, or when you would mix all the Play Doh colors as a child and get a murky gray color. Normally I admire a well-blended fragrance, but Covet is unfortunately less than the sum of its parts. It's a jack of all trades and a master of none, and all this confusion boils down to a 'meh' scent.

It may work differently on other people, so I'd say this is a 50/50 gamble if you're trying to blind buy it. At worst, you'll end up with a 'filler' fragrance in your collection.

LuScentinTenebris

This is great. Grass, lavender, chocolate, a light Egyptian musk, and a tiny hint of Elmer’s glue on first spray (it fades). It’s a weird combination but it works—like someone’s version of Amortentia, the Harry Potter potion that smells different to everyone based on smells they love and what attracts them. Fantastic.

greyhoundmom

To me, Covet smells like rolling around in a field of freshly cut grass and fragrant clover.. I don't get mint or chocolate from this, thankfully--I love sweet perfumes but wasn't keen on smelling like an Andes mint. I really loved the list of notes so I had to sample this one. It's very green and pretty and actually reminds me a bit of Cartier Baiser Vole.

The bottle is gorgeous, by the way!

PipeDreams#1

FYI - this gem was discontinued and has now quietly appeared for sale on SJP's beauty site in a 3.4oz bottle only. Not sure if it's now being produced under another house but I know this has a dedicated following and wanted those hoping to snag a new bottle to know.

12/21/2017 Update #1 Received my bottle and the box does say it is now being produced by the Lovely Company like Stash. I haven't opened yet, as I still have an older bottle open, but will update again once I can test the new bottle and compare to the old!

Vegas Pauli

Not a SJP fan at all, and when I first tried Stash I almost expected to hate it before I smelt it. Well to my surprise, I love Stash, I love it so much it made me blind buy Covet based upon the strange notes, the polarizing reviews on here and the fact I found a large tester for next to nothing on eBay. Covet is a strange animal. It starts odd and I can understand the comparisons to furniture polish. I think its the lemon and chocolate mixing with the alcohol at first spray, it's kind of muddy and confusing. As it dries its becomes more palatable. Not a fan of lemon, lavender or chocolate in a cologne, but here it's not a total failure. It's all contrasts as the notes work against each other, which makes this unusual and interesting, but its not an easy fragrance to describe or wear. I don't get any greenness in this at all, its more ambiguous and muted. The chocolate stops any fresh or sweet notes from fully developing. Cant think of an occasion to wear this, but Covet is more dressy and unisex and verges on being masculine. Its almost niche in the way the unusual combination of notes makes it unlike anything else. The only draw back is the quality of ingredients is rather cheap, but it doesn't ruin Covet, it just prevents me from choosing this over my regular scents. End of the day I give it a mild thumbs up for inginutiy and creativity.

Erinbath22

Strange, I love this smell, but only AFTER the horrendous opening. Seriously it's the most ugly 10 seconds after spraying this- I feel like I have poison on me. Is it just me? What's up with that?
Then, miraculously, between blinks, it turns into a sweet creamy green minty thing of quirky charm. I won't even try with the notes because the ones I see on voting don't make sense except for maybe the chocolate.
This is really, really nice and cozy, but also cooling from the minty greenness. I guess I am really falling for this yummy, cool, (yet warm and creamy) and herby chocolate mint perfume! I will plug my nose when I first spray though. Layering this with Tokyo Milk Bittersweet lotion enhances the chocolate note.

mamakatt38

Well, I just received a sample if this scent from a generous friend here on Fragrantica and after about a half hour of wearing it on my inner arm I smell minty green-ness, a touch of lavendar, and an even smaller touch of chocolate but I do like it. Like others have said, it us interesting and it unfolds beautifully. I don't know if I've experienced it in full right now but it's good so far!

Cauda Pavonis

Minty herbal. It's... interesting?? It's like toothpaste mixed with herbal soap. A bit of sparkle from the lemon. Not quite sure where I'm getting the mint from, maybe a combination of lavender, citrus, and cashmeran. There's a rather jarring house cleaner vibe, something upscale for the kitchen. Underneath there's an intriguing honeyed note from what I assume is amber (and maybe the chocolate). It dries down to a nice but somewhat masculine cologne type thing. I really don't know how I feel about this one. I'm tempted to get it just because it's so odd, and can be had for pennies.

matillyrose

Covet has been discontinued for some years now and I thought that I had missed my chance to experience this wonderful fragrance. I don't know where they hide all the bottles but they turned up at the discount stores in Australia and I quickly picked up a couple.

My whole family loves this fragrance on me and they compliment me whenever I wear it, so I have been wearing it quite a bit lately. So much so that I went and ordered another back up because I am going through this bottle quite quickly with everyday wear.

A good spritz and it lasts all day without losing any of its potency, I call this my little Green Fairy and the colour reminds me very much of Absinthe.

There is such a large mix of flavours in this bottle that the only way I can describe it is to; imagine running through a field of long green grass, flowers and herbs tangling around your legs as you fall exhausted to the ground breathing deeply the pungency of the crushed flora beneath you warmed by the sun as it embraces the earth with all its summer delights.

Chic-girl

This is so delicious. It smells like liquorice to me. The bottle with the flowery cap is most gorgeous, so beautifully shaped and colored.

Edit: Strangely I smell anise which I love, but there is not listed that note.

In 2007, after the huge sales success with Lovely, followed by the flanker Liquid Satin, it was the time for Sarah Jessica Parker to announce a completely different fragrance: Covet.
Covet came to the market presenting something unexpected, completely different from the innocent or musky florals of the time. The perfume was inspired by Sarah's passion for layering contrasting fragrances. Thus, carrying sour and gourmands accords, its innovative side was perceived and the fragrance was highly commented, during the first months after the release.

With notes of Sicilian lemon, green and moist foliage, geranium, lavender and chocolate, it touches the skin in a green and bitter way, frightening and at the same time refreshing. It looks like a handful of grass dipped in many aldehydes. Then, the heart beats floral, with notes of magnolia, honeysuckle and lily of the valley. At this stage, the lily dominates and the fragrance begins to gain smoothness, but still retains the green aspect. Then, begins to appear a powdery facet, very subtle. After a while, as it by magic, Covet changes completely and begins to become a semi-gourmand perfume. Its base features notes of musk, cashmere wood (today, we already know it is cashmeran compound), teak wood, vetiver and amber.

The word that defines Covet is intriguing. I met Covet in 2009, through a sample, and did not rest until I got my own bottle. It brought me the same contrast between green x gourmand that, until then, I had only felt in another fragrance: Vetiver Oriental, by Serge Lutens. They are very different fragrances, but the innovative aspect is the same and they still enchant me until today.

Covet reacts very well on men's skin and, surprisingly, it seems that the chocolate note is at the base, because that's when it gets more noticeable. But it is worth remembering that it must be tested on the skin, since I have witnessed experiences without any gourmand aspect and I also have read reports of people who can not feel the denser base, getting only the green and bitter side of the scent.

Covet has Eau de Parfum concentration, projects very well and has high durability. The only thing I particularly do not like is the bottle. I should see a flower, but whenever I look, I remember a sink faucet. What can I do? I won’t lie.

takeasniff

Be careful with these they were discontinued a long time ago and have turned up in truckloads at all the discount chemists selling them really cheap along with the purple 1. I shudder to think how or where they were stored and if they are off by now.
On a side note, men seem to really like this so I think males could get away with wearing it I would love to see how it develops on their chemistry as they are slightly different to women. I think those of you who like this should try Love Never Dies it is also a weird chocolate fragrance that is sweet but earthy and somehow works in a gorgeous bottle.

cocolover56

SotE: After trying way too many Teone scents in one evening for my nose to handle, I'm coming back to the celeb scents. It reminds me of just how much I love this scent and that maybe I should get a back up bottle. This fragrance, like Carrie's r/s with Mr. Big, is seemingly complicated on the inside but probably super simple on the inside. Only, in the case of this fragrance, it's good. Sort of reminds me of how those potent 80s scents smelt like no ingredients you could think of, but told a story. Ignoring the 'what notes are these' aspect of analysing, this one tells a tale ... and then kinda reveals all the notes at once, when the top notes die down. It's like we had dinner, then went straight cigarettes in bed after the deed was done. It's confusing.

Beccaru

Bit of a disappointing blind buy for me but I'll give it more time. I thought this had been discontinued? For so long I couldn't find it anywhere but its suddenly reappeared on offer in the Perfume Shop along with Covet in Bloom. I got 100ml for £15.

SS79

My review, as posted in my thread after I received my bottle! :)

Covet came to my door today, just got the 30ml... What can I say? I honestly don't know how to describe it, everything just all comes together, in what you would think it wouldn't smell good (considering the notes listed together) but they do, and they smell nice. I do like it! I just wish I had the nose to pick apart the notes. Maybe I thought I would smell the lavender more, or the chocolate.. or even the citrus, but it brings a sense of warmth and I can't stop smelling my wrist! All in all a good blind buy!

P.S - Wish I had purchase a BIGGER bottle!! Im loving this scent!!!!

missguided23

I loved wearing this one in summer. Refreshing initially...then evolving to something with warmth and depth with mint and lavender peeking through now and again. But today it's a cold winter's day. All I smell is mint and lavender. Sharp. No warmth. Constantly assaulting my nostrils... even during a workout. If you don't like this one...maybe give it another go during a different season because it is a unique fragrance and worth persisting with.

Yurpdod

Covet is a very pleasant and overlooked fragrance. The green-grassy notes here remind me a lot of the sweet grass note at the forefront of Lucky You for Men (a fragrance which I adored as a young teenager and was the first fragrance I ever owned), but done in a way that is so much more luxurious and mature.

The way the fragrance smells has a beautiful velvety, oily texture - like a lightweight body oil. It makes sense that this fragrance came in a solid perfume version (a very classy and thoughtful ancillary product that you don't see too often anymore, kudos to them) because it smells like something gliding smoothly over your skin. I don't know how the first voted note is lemon -- I don't get any sort of citrus blast at the beginning, in fact I think the fragrance is fairly linear and mellow. In the category of aromatic fragrances, Covet is probably the most gentle, soft one I've ever smelled.

Covet had only one flanker, Pure Bloom, but it is a sanitized white floral that has nothing to do with the original. I would have loved an "Intense" flanker of Covet with more presence and staying power. A version with the green-aromatic and chocolate notes turned up to 11 would be amazing.

I love the commercial and the marketing for this, but it seems very ill-suited to the fragrance. Covet is not an evening gown and diamonds, it's an extremely comfortable yet stylish pair of chinos and short-sleeved shirt. The commercial is so charming but way too formal for this fragrance.

Covet is very pretty, unique, and easy to wear. I'm not crazy about the weak sillage and performance, but it's still a solid fragrance that you can find at a very inexpensive price.

hails_blogger

I have owned most of Sarah Jessica parker's fragrances. I find that her fragrances are interesting and different. This fragrance is so unique and the quality is amazing. This could have been by Dior or a fashion house known for bold fragrances it is in my opinion an underrated fragrance.

inc0rporeal

Begins with a bright green, citrusy bite! I can see how this could be off-putting at first, but give it chance on your own skin and see how it mingles with your chemistry. On myself it settles into a powdery, rich dark chocolate floral with some detectable lavender. But it's not your grandmother's lavender, it lends more of an herbal tea element that really plays nicely with the rest of the sexy drydown.

This isn't your typical, run-of-the-mill celebrity fragrance in the least. If you're looking for a sugary sweet gourmand, this may not be for you. It begins as sort of a strange one but you just can't leave it alone. It settles close to the skin and becomes mysterious and addicting, rich and intimate.

I reach for this as a winter or comfort scent. Two of the pickiest, smell-sensitive people I know have grown to love this once they got past the initial blast of lemony, green notes. Could be an exciting blind buy if you like a challenge. :)

Pavlina666

This perfume is for me the love for the second impression: the first meeting was very embarassing, i didn't know, what to think about. But - one month later i tested it again and it was something different. Very original, unusual mix of chocolate, something green, citrus, lavender, spices...One of my favorites for spring and summer.

cocolover56

Such a tasty scent. THIS is my idea of the perfect Carrie Bradshaw scent. Lavender & Cocoa are definitely dominant here.

Soofiya

It's my second review
When I first tested it,I remember it to be weird and vegetative but something made me come back to it so after using up my 5mil decant I happened to like it and now I'm going to receive it in a swap
When first sprayed I can also smell what is referred to as glue-smell in other reviews, well I love to smell glue but such a smell in a perfume would be very off putting but this glue thing goes away in seconds and is replaced with lemon+lavender+very slight green undertone.I'd love to be able to pickup chocolate but I really can't.Still I like it as it is.a very natural, non sour lemon+lavender which gives it a unisex vibe.drydown is less unique with musk and geranium added, something that larger number of people may appreciate.it's pleasant and is the actual reason that makes me decide to have a large bottle in my collection.I can detect a shadow of lovely here, which I love.slight hint of lemony lavender still lingers in the back ground but a combination of soft florals, musk and cashmere like woods,a lovely floralwoodymusk is what I can mostly smell on my skin and I like it a lot!it's clean and fresh also warm and charming.it has a tomboyish feel as well as having a feminine vibe.covet is not only one of the better and different celebrity perfumes,it's even a well crafted and interesting one among modern launches IMO.I like how it develops on my skin and goes through different stages.it's not as strange or weird as it's notes, reviews and your first test may suggest but definitely it's original and different from mainstream perfumes.
I dislike green scents but it's not really a green perfume to my nose, not a gourmand chocolatey one either.I highly recommend everyone to try it on skin and not just once and give it enough time to unfold.more than half of expensive niche perfumes aren't as good as covet IMHO.I can't call it a huge favourite or something I'd repurchase because it's not my type at all but I'm happy to have a bottle and wear something so different from my usual likes from time to time.longevity passes six hours and sillage is moderate. It's wearable for office and is signature material.oh and I like it's bottle, specially I love it's cap
I'd love to try other perfumes from Sarah Jessica parker as I like both lovely and covet and I'm very sad that their unavailable here.
Edit:
It's perfect on men.truely unisex
2nd Edit:
Yeay, finally I'm picking up traces of dark chocolate.it's not sweet or gourmand even a bit.it's paired with something spicy and green

Covet is not for everyone; I've had my 100 mL bottle for 7 years now and I don't reach for it often, but on those days I'm feeling quirky or in need of a little "je ne sais quoi" I choose Covet. On me, this is a long-lasting, strong green with a note on dry down (musk, chocolate - both?) that I can only describe as naughty. That animalic, aromatic quality can be somewhat distracting so I keep it to 1, maybe 2 spritzes at most. Very unique scent. Worth a try before you buy.

MikiRae

I discovered this gorgeous fragrance quite recently. It was on sale at my local pharmacy so I thought I'd give it a try. It really is unlike anything I own or have smelled before. It's so unique and unusual and I think that's what I love most about it. I definitely get the lemon and lavender and what I think is chocolate. Gorgeous and really Different! It's a love for me. On my skin longevity is average at 4-5 hours and sillage is soft to moderate.

Twinkle1705

What an under-rated, underappreciated scent! Covet is quite the lovely and unique fragrance - lavender, lemon and chocolate pretty much sums it up.

I think the challenge was that the first spray smells like lemon bug spray and probably not great on a tester strip, but give it 30 minutes on the skin, and you'll be in lemony, chocolately, lavender heaven!

I wore the heck out of this about 7/8 years ago, and if I saw it again, would gladly snatch up every awesome-looking bottle they had. This was definitely ahead of its time.

dante11

i love this perfume! i know it has notes that shouldn't work-but on my skin they do. and i have been frustrated lately-everything seems to have venilla in it-and i am so over vanilla....but this is CHOCOLATE!!.....wonderful chocolate....it makes such a sexy scent....but not so overwhelming you can't wear it for day.
this is a new love for me-definitely a love!

UnearthlyApothecary

This is a very unusual scent, I get mostly a spicy minty vibe with perhaps a bit of the bitter chocolate coming through. I really like this, I am wearing a tiny amount from an ancient sample vial so I'm afraid I'm not getting the full effect lol I am intrigued enough to want to purchase a FB I am definitly a fan of anything unusual in a scent and this is so different then anything else I've smelled lately, I have to have it.

Le parfum c'est chic

Usually I don't like celebrity scent because they all smell the same thing, fruity floral or sweet girlie vanilla. Covet is so different and complex. It's dry, green and woody and has a masculine vibe and a rare geranium note. I really like it and adore the funny video ad done by Jean-Paul Goude. I can't wait to smell Stash. In his book The Perfect Scent, Chandler Burr said that Parker have a nose. I agree with him. She has a real sensibility to scent and she's audacious. Twilight is an other interesting one by SJP.

Don't be scared off by the notes listed in this one - it looks like it would be a hot mess, but as other reviewers have said, it works somehow. Also don't be scared off by the first few seconds after spraying. I agree this one is unusual based on what is typically available from celebrity fragrances, but I don't find it as weird as I was expecting it to be based on the notes and the reviews, except for the opening, which is really kind of like chocolate mint with a dash of glue, (sounds really awful but it's not, just unusual), but that changes in seconds. Then it turns into a really pretty green woody floral with a hint of chocolate that is very unique. I find the final dry down to be actually on the sweet side and not so unusual but not unpleasant. This will never be among my top 5 favorites, but it was worth the pittance I paid for it and I will enjoy using it once in a while - I love variety after all and I have nothing else like it. Lasts a long time but isn't at all obnoxious if sprayed conservatively. Kudos to SJP for doing her own thing among the other celebrities with this one and Stash - which I actually like even better than Covet.

This started with a glue kind of smell and i thought nah, then it blossomed into the most strange yet enjoyable scent. Such an array of notes mingled together that somehow works. Its green, salty but not overbearingly so, chocolate and musk appear creating a really intriguing aroma. If i had sampled this not knowing that it was a celeb scent I would have said it was a niche, it's different, I'm keeping it :)

This is a very pleasant scent. It likes getting a warm hug from an old friend. There is something very soothing about it. It must the lavender but it's done very well. I imagined it would be something harsh and loud but not at all. It becomes a quite soapy smelling and a little too powdery for me but overall I like this one. This would be a great perfume for a cozy day at home.

I loved this on first spray - rich, fresh, green - then within 5 minutes it become incredibly soapy, and all I could think of was (high quality) laundry powder. Then that dissipated and I ws left with...cloves? And a mint chocolate biscuit. Confusing.

SJP, you oddball, what are you up to now? What am I even smelling here? A barbershop next to a confectioner? A florist shop flanked by fruit trees? A candied apple, maybe...but not the usual red one dipped in caramel and rolled in nuts. No, this one would be homemade, a tart green Granny Smith apple pulled off the tree out back; too late you realize there's not enough chocolate to dip it, so you drizzle what little there is over the top and take it out on the patio to eat it amidst a breeze tinged with green lawns and trimmed shrubbery...

I usually avoid celeb scents, and am not really a SJP fan. She was likable enough in Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, but I never watched Sex and the City, and honestly always marveled at how this mismatched laundry explosion could be hailed as a fashion icon. She was never drop-dead gorgeous, but certainly isn't ugly, and for all her quirky weirdness I guess there is still something fun and fresh about her--possibly the simple fact that she is so unapologetically different.

This perfume absolutely reflects all my impressions of SJP herself (right or wrong). It's odd. It's confusing. Like her outfits, the pieces don't seem to match. Still, taken as a whole, somehow it manages to work. Sort of. Mostly. They should change the name from Covet to Shenanigans. This is absolute tomfoolery. But i think i might like it, a little, maybe.

This is a movie you wouldn't drive 15 minutes on a Saturday and pay to see in the theater, but you're perfectly content to stream it at home and chuckle occasionally. You'll even re-run it on a random Thursday evening when there's nothing else on.

It's not gorgeous, but it's not ugly. It's that little weirdo neighbor you stop and talk to sometimes because they're hilariously funny without meaning to be. I'm not sure about inviting her in, but she's pleasant enough to chat with if she catches me out in the yard.

This is the oddest scent I've ever owned, and certainly ever kept. It's a strange one that perplexes me. Do I even really like it? Why don't I dislike it if it's so weird? Why am i even struggling with this? How can you not know how you feel about your perfume? I have to wonder if this confusing, polarizing reaction isn't exactly what they were going for when they concocted this stuff.

I'm hanging onto it for those days when I'm in a weird, inscrutable mood and need an equally funky fragrance to match.

I don't usually like salty scents as I associate them with the scent of sea spray but this one is just addictive. The color for one, I had to buy the bottle for the beautiful green/yellow juice, and then was pleasantly surprised by the notes! There is salt, there is spice and so green. There is also a bit of a synthetic plasticky note but I am willing to forgive that since the rest is quite unique.

True Heart

Gorgeous bottle. Gorgeous colour. Really good perfume.

Loved this perfume. Kind of unique at that time it came out, very fresh but not in your face fresh (CK1) but at the same time sort of sensual. The downsides are longevity (about an hour on me) and projection (skin scent after an hour), had to re apply quite a bit.

This is a really weird perfume. I am sure that it would be raved about as both innovative and challenging, had it been developed by a niche perfume house.

Nearly all my perfumes (and there are a lot now!) are blind buys, based on the notes, and the recommendations on Fragrantica ("people who like this also like..."). I bought a new 50ml bottle of Covet on eBay for under £22 (inc. p&p). When I buy perfume, if I don't like it, hopefully I will find someone who does and we can swap!

The initial citrus burst on first spraying Covet made me recoil, much as Cabotine and Mitsouko did (and still do - swap, anyone?). Covet opens with a VERY unpleasant industrial plasticky, gluey, painty smell which almost made me rush to the bathroom to GET IT OFF. But one thing I have learned about perfumes from the lovely people on Fragrantica, is that they need time to settle and dry; deciding immediately - or even on trying only once - that something is a scrubber, doesn't do it justice.

Fortunately that harsh industrial (solvent?) note dissipates very quickly - within 10 minutes - and the lemon, pelargonium and lavender come to the fore. None of these are my favourite notes and I particularly detest the smell of geraniums. I still didn't like it, although I was prepared to concede that it might be quite cooling on a hot and humid summer day.

Then something really magical happened.

After half an hour on my wrists and neck, this turned into a warm, woody, dark, chocolatey, spicy musk, gently underpinned by a hint of leather.

It really is the most astonishing turnaround I have ever experienced in a perfume, both in the sense that the perfume changed dramatically - as did my opinion. I was going to consign this to my "blind buy disaster and need to re-home box" - but I really LOVE this perfume. I cannot stop sniffing my wrist.

I understand that Sarah Jessica Parker is very closely involved in the development of the perfumes which bear her name. Kudos to her for being hands on - Covet is NOT a conventional crowd pleaser, nor is it in the currently safe and commercial floral/fruity/patchouli celebrity fragrance realm. It is challenging. I am not a fan of SJP, (I am indifferent to her, to be honest). I bought this because this seems to be almost as polarising a scent as Angel. I wanted to know what the fuss was about.

Covet is not a *safe* blind buy. I don't think you can determine whether you may like it, based on the notes, or from smelling it on a card or piece of clothing. It needs to be on your skin and it needs to be there for at least 30 minutes before you decide if it's for you or not.

If you are lucky, the magic will happen.

Sillage is moderate, longevity excellent.
