Soir de Lune by Sisley is a Chypre Floral fragrance for women. Soir de Lune was launched in 2006. The nose behind this fragrance is Dominique Ropion. Top notes are Coriander, Pepper Oil, Nutmeg, Bergamot, Lemon and Mandarin Orange; middle notes are May Rose, Mimosa, Iris, Jasmine, Lily-of-the-Valley and Peach; base notes are Honey, Oakmoss, Patchouli, Musk and Sandalwood.

Soir de Lune is a pefume for those who are chosen; it’s elegant, intense, a modern fruity-chypre. The moon illuminates the sky, the night is mysterious and magnetic. Dominique Ropion used a sharp chypre essence for its main composition; a voloptous floral heart made of rose, mimosa, jasmine and lily-of-the-valley, while the trail is a more intense and richer thanks to the sweet and darker base. At its heart, a cool freshness of iris is opposed to a honey-sweet mimosa note. Main notes are: lemon, bergamot, orange, mandarine, coriander, nutmeg, pimento as top notes; the heart note is composed of May rose absolute, mimosa absolute, jasmine, lily-of-the-valley, peach and the base note includes moss, musk, patchouli, honey, sandalwood. A bottle both rounded and facetted, and topped with a metal cap designed by Polish sculptor Bronislaw Krzysztof. Soir de Lune is available in 30ml, 50ml and 100ml Eau de Parfum bottles. It was created in 2006.

For me this was love at first spray!

Aeternitas

What can I say that hasn't already been said about Soir de Lune?
The elegant bottle is quite a revelation of the fragrance's character.
It's an enchanting, honeyed rose chypre that puts blush on my cheeks.
A dewy springtime kiss from Heaven.
I love it so very much.

Is it "old-fashioned"? Sure. I find that all of Sisley's fragrance offerings have an old money sophistication to them.
But Soir de Lune is very special and wearable for even young women of taste.
Sisley is keeping the art of perfumery alive and staying true to their work!

Just a note: the mossy patchouli dry-down can be overbearing for some.

jocing

I got the travel size as this juice is strong and limited to some public to accept this and will not wear often outdoor. I love it when my jacket/ cardigan was left 2 days long and the scent milder is even more attractive.

Tested out and is a great perfume and I personally love it. Is vintage scent flower, and vintage powdery, mature yet sexy.
Oakmoss are probably stand out the most and patchouli too.

SDL definitely a high performance perfume. Strong sillage , great longevity.

NOT a blind buy safe as not everyone will love it.

Saveria

At first spray, I didn't like it. I thought it smelled like an "old perfume", probably because of the patchouli which directly attacked my nose.

In the evolution on the other hand, it surprised me; the patchouli is still there but honey, jasmine and rose have arrived. They are now perfectly intertwined with each other and form a harmonious and very pleasant whole. It also has a nice woody side but it's this honeyed effect that I like the most.

It smells vintage, that's true, but Soir de Lune is also very elegant. In the end, and even if chypres are not my style, I like it and readily admit that it is a beautiful perfume.

AleksOud

The most exquisitely blended warm woody rose.

This is a true masterpiece. Smells like something created for the elite a century ago. My choice for fine dining and theatre in winter, along with Vanille Havane by Les Indemodables.

Starseed25

Timeless and special perfume!

lunarambrosia

Beautifully done chypre, the kind you don't find much anymore. I was surprised to see that this was by Dominique Ropion, because I associate him with sexy florals like Carnal Flower or Jasmin Kusamono. One thing this does have in common with those other two is that it's a great choice for evening.

cheleine

Vintage honeyed rose with a slightly indolic jasmine.
Reads “chypre”; oakmoss is very apparent.
Very seductive and old school, fit for a diva.
The right woman can pull this off even today but it’s probably best suited for special occasions as it’s a very bold and opulent scent.
STUNNING, breathtaking bottle.
Amazing performance.

I am a chypre lover and this definetly is one! This is quite strong, a headturner. Resembles EL Knowing, but this is sweeter. Turns slightly pungent after a while. My favourite is the body lotion, it stays on clothes a few days and on bedlinens. Love it, makes me feel a millionare!

Ariete76

From previous reviews, to tell the truth, I was a little afraid to buy it in the dark, I was especially scared by the idea of finding myself in front of a raw perfume... majestic and difficult to wear! Nothing could be more wrong, as soon as I sprayed it a chypre smell pervaded me, it's true, earthy as only some vintage ones are, but to be honest there is nothing more smooth and heterogeneous that one could find in a perfume of the type…. After the sharp earthy chypre part, a delicate rose emerges on my nose supported by a mimosa that holds it and exalts it in the same way, a sharp patchouli which I usually hate (here you can smell it a lot) but which mixed with this hyper-realistic rose is very good, a chypre which speaks of the most popular perfumes once this yes…. But nothing as striking and disharmonizing as I had read in other reviews which described it as a "difficult" perfume, the honeyed part supports the fragrance and ensures that it does not become a harsh perfume, it certainly smooths out the edges, don't expect a perfume with honey, because in my opinion it serves more to bring out the notes that fit well together. Would I buy it again? Surely! A perfume from other times, where vanilla, fruit, or gourmand scents were not in fashion, but THE PERFUME where the Rose as the protagonist was always the queen of perfumes, for those who collect perfumes it is an absolute must have

Jennswen

Soir de Lune: to my nose is honey and roses! It is moonlight in a bottle. After trying a sample, it didn't take me long to buy a full bottle. I usually prefer dark heavy perfumes, but this one is subtle and,.... it makes me feel like an aristocrat.
In my opinion, it is not a young overly sweet frivolous scent. It is elegant and refined. The bottle is beautiful. Definitely at the top of my perfume list! LOVE!

Titti Claren

I think Soir de lune is a very special perfume, a beautiful chypre, old fashioned in the best way, unfortunately I suspect that she has been reformulated, the drydown smell something synthetic and piercing. I hope i am wrong...

TunyaPe

Someone said “Made me think of a harsh, straightforward, too serious for her age young sophisticated woman!”, and wow, that’s me!

An acquired taste and is a little tricky because its magic is the scent trail / sillage ‘in the air’.

I dare to describe it as witchy and classy. A process of coagulating of dripping honey fermented with old rose and chypre. Absolutely stunning and abstract yet wearable. Its magnetic aura is as radiant as the moonlight, in my opinion — serene & incandescent. It stays forever on the top shelf of my collection.

asimpleperfumelover

This is what I imagine Florence Welch smells like - oakmoss, coriander, and sweet honeyed rose.

WhiteFlowerPrincess

Soir de Lune to me is a purely unisex fragrance for those who like something quite sober, sophisticated, complicated, serious and rich smelling. All of this makes me think of a fall or winter night because of its cold and metallic scent and I could imagine this being very appropriate for black tie at night, as the beautiful bottle and this perfume's name would suggest.

The opening is deeply aromatic and spicy from the coriander and pepper oil and this sets the serious mood of this fragrance for me. Despite being spicy, it didn't make me sneeze at all and it is more of a light and fresh spice.

I then can smell a rose note that smells like dried rose petals used for pot pourri, powdery, dry and vintage smelling iris and a sweet and powdery peach that has been sitting for a while but hasn't spoiled just yet. I like the heart notes, but they don't give that fresh and youthful quality I'm looking for in my fragrances unfortunately. Something about this smells quite mature ans vintage.

The base notes start out really heavy on the patchouli and especially the oakmoss, which gives this fragrance a mossy, bitter, dry and not at all sweet character that I'm really not a fan of. This lightens up as this fragrance fades on my skin and I'm left with a delightfully sweet, dripping liquid honey note that takes over the last 90 minutes of this fragrance as a much needed, sweetly nectarous and heavenly relief from all of the dryness and bitterness. I wish this stage lasted longer.

Soir de Lune gave me an arm's length scent bubble and it lasted a good 11 hours on my skin. You wouldn't need to reapply this fragrance during the day and would only need to touch up late at night if you were out, so this makes this fragrance very good value for money.

Because of how bitter and spicy this perfume was and the fact it only had a faint floral heart and a sweet honeyed smell at the very end though, I'd only give Soir de Lune by Sisley a 5.8 out of 10.

lmnsvgz

It starts spiced and a bit dated. But then it turns into an earthy, honey sweet, oakmoss scent that has enough sourness but maintains a very elegant vibe. Stunning!

ina.rem

Sophistication and elegance. This perfume is not your everyday, casual scent. I use it for those special moments when I have elegant outfits. It is this chypre element that adds to the grown-up and mature character of the perfume, making it more suitable for women who appreciate classic and timeless scents. Suits for any season, day and night.

Random Spirit Lover

This a wonderful little gem.
Starts off as basically feminine leaning rose fragrance to my nose, albeit a very interesting, refined and high quality one. At this stage it makes me think of something a well-to-do older woman might wear… the kind you might see perusing around Saks on a weekday morning.
Then it starts to get a little earthy, a little spicy, and really mossy, but still with that rose backbone, and it is a simply beautiful, unisex floral chypre during that stage.
Then eventually, and this is where the magic really happens for me, in its third stage it starts to get deeper and heavier, more complex and challenging. To my nose it becomes rather resinous and the floral notes shift from rose to Tagetes. Oddly, in this stage it makes me think of a toned down, subtle version of Serin by January scent project (that one’s a thick, heavy tagete bomb, which I love but can be too much at times), even though they really don’t share any notes.
I’m aware this is marketed towards women, but I am a 40 y/o male and feel totally confident wearing this.
As an aside, I love the way Sisley handles oak moss as a fragrance material. It seems their fragrance collection is very cohesive, and several of them seem to be variations on a theme, and I think the common thread is the oak moss. This is quite different than Eau du Soir, which I also really enjoy, but the similarities they do share I think is because of the shared oak moss base.

Opalescence

Mossy, mossy, mossy. Not much else there for me, unfortunately: no honey or flowers. I like Knowing, and Coriandre is okay, and I can tell that they're all in the same scent family, but Soir de Lune is not working for me. Classic chypres with heavy oakmoss sometimes don't do well on my skin, so I should have known.

Unusual. Mature. Dark. Mysterious.

This is not your usual, boring, lets jump around happily in a field of flowers girly nothing and slip on a banana peel.
This is lets get a revenge against the woman that stole my man! 😆
It walks few feet before and after you.
You will be recognized with this one.
I think depending on the personal body chemistry some ladies might hate it.

It was a blind buy for me, glad I’ve purchased it.

Sassafras23

Very unusual in my (fairly moderate) experience. It brought to mind Cedrat Boise. To me, it has a similar vibe, but much milder at the beginning (without the leather) or rather Cedrat Boise is more sweetly citrusy. Soir de Lune does not come across as feminine at all. Unisex if not masculine. It’s strangely captivating. It feels like walking through moonlit dark woods. I don’t feel honey at all even though it’s voted honey-dominant. Coriander, pepper oil, nutmeg, bergamot - all of it makes sense. But the mandarine orange is well hidden, because it gives no sweetness that it usually does. Woody, earthy, mossy, fresh spicy - that’s the first stage. Several hours later, and comparing them side by side, I remain of the opinion that there is a resemblance between them. Soir de Lune is softer while Cedrat Boise is sharper with a very prominent leather accord. Am I the only one with this perception?

PS: revisited a year later - and it’s beautiful. I noticed that it gets sweeter at later stages, presumably from the honey. I must have been prejudiced earlier because it’s so expensive. I now have Coriandre, both EDT and PDT, that to me smell very close to Soir de Lune.

Cadera97

I feel very refined wearing this fragrance. It is so we'll formulated that I can do 1 spray on my neck and stay perfumed for the whole day or night. There are few perfumes around like such.

kkalyani

Quoting /mitsouko below, "Eau du Soir is restrained elegant, Soir de Lune is more baroque". Yes, yes and yes! "Baroque" is one fitting word to describe it. I also agree with /alphairone below who says it's underrated and that Soir de Lune reminds him of manuka honey. I never thought I'd like to smell of honey but this, while smelling, indeed, like natural honey of the highest quality, is something non-gourmand. It's magic - I don't know how the perfumer achieved this. Infinitely feminine, in my opinion. Like a golden shimmering veil of naturally sweet honey. I can only detect the Eau du Soir base layer outdoors out in the wind. Other than that, they are, to me, completely different. /mc1995 says the Eau du Soir is more "pour homme" and Soir de Lune - "pour femme". Yes, on the one hand; on the other, it could be the same person in different moods: one - a colder, serious, more cerebral, and grounded while the other - frivolous, flamboyant and erotic. It certainly makes you think a certain way! It's also incredibly warming. Oh, and it lasts forever and projects well. What's not to love?

gretta

I ordered a decant of Soir de Lune after falling head over heels in Love for Exit The King by Etat Libre d'Orange (and after reading @alphairone's review below). To my untrained nose I got ammonia in the beginning of Soir (unfortunately), but then slowly a mature, earthy, patchouli, silky, peachy, rose - but mossy and dirty too? Soir somehow smells darker (earthier?) than Exit the King, which smells like rosy mossy clean soap.

Soir de Lune and Exit the King smell so similar to me and are definitely in the same family. Are these what Chypres smell like?? Fascinating. Someone educate me on this please.

alphairone

An underrated masterpiece from Dominique Ropion from the equally underrated house of Sisley, Soir de Lune is one of the best floral chypres of the 21st century that few know about. It opens green-spicy, peachy, with understated citruses, with a dreamy rose de mai carrying it into a soft-hued floral heart. This is all drizzled with honey, with the accord reminding me of aroma of prohibitively expensive manuka honey, earthy, bittersweet, almost barley-like.

The vivacity of the opening transitions into a darker, moodier direction, salty, bitter, brooding woodiness, the honeyed rose dampened by a brooding oakmoss and its dry down feeling more reflective. Powdery white musks descend further into its development, while traces of peachy keen green rose linger. The sumptuous nature of Soir de Lune may be an acquired taste, but for those who appreciate the artistic refinement of Frederic Malle or Chanel les Exclusifs may very well be impressed with this gem. Luca Turin gave it a generous 1 star, so that alone is worth seeing what the fuss is all about!

Mc1995

Very good. So smooth, sweet honeyed chypre. I feel like Eau Du Soir is like the pour homme and Soir De Lune is the pour femme. Both perfectly unisex. Both could be possibly good in spring too. Where must chypre’s are very fall/winter.

Enrium

Like Sisley's beautiful Eau de Soir that I reviewed recently, Soir de Lune is a top-notch floral chypre. It is sweeter and spicier than Eau de Soir, as well as warmer, darker and more opulent - the autumn/winter version of the airier EDS. Housed in a beautiful bottle of which I have a miniature, SDL is deeply enjoyable throughout. From its fruity opening to its dense floral heart, it is fairly classic in style, set apart by the inspired inclusion of honey in the base.

SDL opens with juicy citrus notes, given some sweetness by a hint of peach. Soft spices emerge early on, adding warmth. Powdery florals follow, led by iris, but with clean jasmine and some rose evident. Sweet mimosa follows, and the effect is rich and dense. Honey keeps the florals richly sweet as the mossy chypre base emerges.

The drydown is inky dark, led by vintage-style oakmoss. Soft woody notes round it out, and a sweet amber effect is given by the honey and musk. Patchouli enhances the chypre accord beautifully, remaining until final fade. Sillage is strong and longevity is long-lasting. Feminine-leaning and best worn in autumn/winter, it is opulent but wearable.

A beautiful modern chypre made in the classic style, SDL has a few points of interest that set it apart - namely the use of honey. An underrated masterpiece from the exceptional Dominique Ropion. 4.5/5.

First time I used it I did not like it that much. Now I am In love with this perfume. is so intriguing and unique and elegant a masterpiece. I have the traveling size I am planing to buy a full bottle. 9 out of 10 a master piece.

suexilin

The rose feels heavy and suffocating for me, reminds me of those "rose essence" vials that are sold in the touristic traps in Bulgaria.

Edit: 6 months later: This is a rich honey rose, delicious and enveloping. Love it!

Albinushka

I’m not a fan of Chypre fragrances, they mostly are too old-fashion and sharp for my taste, but this is really beautiful, especially the honey note. Elegant and classy, reminds me of my mother, in a good way)

dianaelz.1

a masterpiece,a classic chypre. Honeyed roses in a mossy base, lovely and projection beast. appropriate for winter / automn / evening scent.
9/10.

ad4

This is my signature winter scent. When i smelled it for the first time in perfume store I hated it but it grew on me, now I love it from the first second. It's perfect mood lifter for me and it brightens my every day in the winter (I hate winter). I wouldn't wear it in any other season, I think it's matching cold weather and warm clothes. The longevity and projection is great. I usually use 5 sprays of every perfume, I used this amount in the morning last week and after lunch I was still getting compliments from my colleagues. Despite the honey it could be considered as unisex perfume. Some people say this perfume is more for older, mature ladies but I wear it since I was about 25 and I don't care if it matches my age or style, I feel it's part of me.

AMMILLER

Vintage oakmoss, powdery rose, mysterious almost medicinal honey. I like it. It's a unique, vintage smell. Very strong but interesting. I like it alot! There is definitely a time and place for it (I would wear it to a party, or shopping, or even the library, but I would never wear to work.)

mirrorghost

this smells vintage-y and starts with a heavy dose of oaklmoss and an animalic honey and musk. a hint of peach follows fairly quickly, followed by a lot of rose. dries down to a honey rose with lots of oakmoss, and later iris. this is really beautiful and i think if you enjoy vintage perfumes, you may like this.

étoilesdejasmin

Absolutely magical. I have never laid my nose on anything so enigmatic and beautiful. I am the very last woman on earth to adore a fragrance with an oakmoss base, (that - and patchouli, are the bane of my existence) and I have no justification as to why this is intensely magical, but it is. However, immediately as I tried it my sister said “what is this grandma perfume” and no, she isn’t a particular connoisseur of olfactory delights, but be warned that this is not a blind purchase.. I find it appropriate for younger women actually, I am in my early twenties myself. But the masses might read it as old. It has no dustiness or 80s aldehydes, though. It is simply not the fruity-candy creations people are accustomed to on young women. I would be interested in the opinion of a man on this.
This beauty is not blatantly sensual, I think it is refined and mature, and I am quite convinced my man would prefer this less on me since he prefers voluptuous, deeply and vivaciously feminine scents on me. I would not say this is that sort.

Agree with @blackcatparfum review.

smelllikethis460

I love this fragrance & Eau de Soir. The Sisley-Paris Hair Rituel products smell amazing and I'm trying to determine which one of these they resemble. Maybe Eau de Sisley? If anyone has feedback, I'd be grateful. This is such a knowledgeable community. Thank you.

Lala_Dada_Parfa

I am a true fan of Domiqiue Ropion since 80s, and Maxim's de Paris, Paco Rabanne's La Nuit signed by the same perfumer genie has always been my two heros (better said alteregos) until I met this masterpiece of Ropion in 1998, from the first sniff on I became obssessed by Lune de Soir, the 80s signature ingredient "Animalis Hypo" is so skillfully combined here with honey and oakmoss, I am an absolute fan of this perfumez and I can only recommend

Fragranooga

Definitely not one you want to stick your nose directly into and sniff, but that's not what perfume is meant for after all, is it? It smells fantastic in the air, definitely rose-forward. There is a bit of that vaguely animalic "vintage perfumery" kind of profile to it at first but it dries into a nice earthy, slightly sweet scent that doesn't smell dated. Unisex with a bit of a feminine lean imo.

NoorbBelgium

Elegance at its best! This is what Soir de Lune Sisley is all about. I love how the rose, honey, moss, and coriander in this go well together giving the vibes and feel of rainy weather that is airy, classy, and exceptionally amazing. Depth, mystery, and darkness in this bring the olfactory experiences and bring back the memories of some vintage beauty.

Mando

This smells like Serge Lutens Rose de Nuit and a little cheaper but not by much. It smells very well made with an animalic rose scent, honey and oakmoss. Really unisex smelling and gorgeous. I must get a bottle! Oh and the bottle is gorgeous too.

blackcatparfum

This is such a classy, grounded, sophisticated fragrance, but it is definitely for a more mature woman (whether that be in age or personality). There isn't anything that smells quite like it in my opinion (closest would be old-school chypres) but there's some kind of timeless element about it. I wish I could pull it off, but maybe I just need to grow into it! It is quite unassuming and understated but very poised. I can't say it will turn heads, but the person who would wear this isn't so insecure as to need the approval and adulation of others.

Mari-Antoinette

This perfume smells like a personality. Someone that’s difficult but you enjoy it. You don’t go everywhere with it, but you share your solitude with it. You understand it and cherish your relationship with it, while it is very harsh with others and can offend without thinking. I love it … I have had it for 8 years, have worn out probably 8 times But have spent countless hours having dialogs with it.

GiareDiLuce

An interesting one. Floral and earthy. I've read the notes, but I can't recognize any, apart from the rose. It has something sharp to it. I feel like this is a frangrance for a more mature woman.

GinCatsBooks

If Starry Night had a scent, it would be Soir De Lune.

Sisley scents are always like something from another era to my nose and Soir De Lune is no exception to this, despite its 2006 release, this is by no means a fresh crowd pleaser nor is it a standard fruity floral. Soir De Lune is quite grown-up but its not cold and unapproachable, its warm, velvety and comforting, its also quite a power house and isn't for the faint of heart!

The initial opening reminds me a lot of older Chypre scents such as Mitsouko and Estee Lauder Knowing, but when that intial, almost aldehyldic blast settles, a plush rose emerges which is both velvety and a bit waxy (like lipstick), the spices here work beautifully with the rose and add warmth and body whilst iris gives some soft powder, I can't detect many of the other notes in the composition aside from the rose, iris, nutmeg and pepper oil, Its so seamless and all the notes sing in harmony together which creates an air of elegance and Parisian chic; think a trench coat, a silk blouse and sunglasses walking along the Champs Elysees during a cool evening.
I agree with the comparisons to Estee Lauder Knowing, I used to own a bottle of Knowing but rehomed it after I struggled to get it to work on my skin, but I wouldn't say that they smell identical, Soir De Lune is softer, more elegant and easier to wear than Knowing, it also blends better with my skin chemisty without smelling like talcum powder which is how Knowing would often end up smelling on me.

The silage is amazing, two or three spritzes at the most produces an elegant trail whilst the longevity is super; 8+ hours and often it lasts through showering. Its for sure a fall/winter staple and while I would choose to wear it for big events and nights out, I actually also feel like its perfectly suited to being worn with jeans and a baggy jumper to a coffee shop, I find it very versatile despite its powerful nature, also, the bottle is a work of art too!
Future repurchase for sure plus the matching body lotion I got with my bottle smells gorgeous too!

disgnomed

i saw this fragrance on sale at nordstorms, and got curious. honey, oakmoss, lemon, peach, lily-of-the-valley; sounds the perfect fairy-like fragrance. i am unfamiliar with chypre, and decided to get a decant of it just to be adventurous. it sounded so promising.

in the bottle, it smells of rose, nutmeg, and patchouli. it smelled wonderful and pleasant. promising, even. but, the first spray was the first sign something was up. there was only spice, wood, and musk, none of the florals or fruits/citrus i thought there was going to be. no honey, either. there was a lot of patchouli. like sooo much patchouli, and sandalwood and pepper. honestly, it was enjoyable. i'm not a big spicy, woody fragrance person, but i liked it, even if it was a lot.

i let it dry for a few minutes, and then got assailed by the animalic stench of wild excerment. i closely associate the smell with something like goats, as during the summers, goats come around to mow fields as wildfire prevention. when i go and get the mail and they're close by, the scent is potent in the air. to be honest, even if you open a window or two, you can smell it. it's disgusting.

it's grossly masculine, and it doesn't fit me personally. after maybe thirty minutes, i can't really identify what i smell in it. it's become a stinky mess of goat and spice and whatever else i smell.

i know people had said this smelled like paloma picasso, which is known for its animalic scent. i am not a fan of the whole animal-like scent category as a whole; i never understood why somebody wanted to smell like an animal. to be more in-tune with nature? i don't get it. i certainly don't like it, either.

i want to wash it off. it reeks.

Cocochanel4ever

Little sweeter version of Paloma Picasso eau de parfum. Love them both. Great for early fall.

Bouquet Bleu

From love to like. Elegant and very melancholic, complex yet understandable chypre. Has some sweetness and some rotting leaves accord. Dry but very patchouley when humidity grows. In warm weather I smell more the rose and in the cold jasmine gets more prominent.
Evidence: not for everyone. You must have some melancholy or a lit of background to be nostalgic about: which usually means a certain age or having lived a lot. Thus 20 yr olds writing they don't find themself right in it makes sense. Also not for wearing with casual and training outfits and mainstream instaladies. Sorrynotsorry.

This is surprisingly a compliment magnet. It's elegant, mossy and dry - the name evening moon is very evocative. The honey adds sensuality and florals keep it more friendly and approachable. It's probably a scent that many people who wouldn't seek this one out for themselves, judging it too old fashioned, appreciate on others.

Stillmagnolia

Elegant.
Great performance on my scent-gobbling skin. Like maybe the best of all.
Love to top this one off after the dry down is getting faint, so that you get the top notes alongside the bottom. You know, it’s a fragrance that layers well on top of itself. This might edge out Eau du Soir for me, or just have a different function.
Gracious, Sisley does not do anything halfway. Like nothing. Or their stuff just works for my skin.
If I had the resources, I’d buy everything in all the categories they offer that I use. The value for the money to me is off-the-chart. So many are high-priced but not worth it. This house is expensive yet absolutely delivers the goods.
I see why this won’t be for everyone, but mercy….. if you like it, it’s GOOD.

adelaidesandrina

i was so excited for this fragrance because of a lot of reasons. but when i sprayed this on my skin, i didn’t like it at all. it smells like damp clothes.. not in a good way. smells like a rotting closet too.
the honey is very prominent here, but sadly the honey smells off to me. it’s very mossy alfafa dirty.. ughhh. it is sort of floral, i smell the roses and the rest of the middle notes yeah. i wanted to scrub it off but i felt bad so i kept it on. as it calms down, it’s more bearable (luckily). this one is unique. nothing comes close to this. would i wear it again? maybe.. if i’m in the mood for it.

lulubaba

What can I say. Elegance in a bottle. Almost reminds me of my other love, Chanel Coromandel- almost. I don’t get the honey at all as to my nose there is a sharp opening with a beautiful soft and musky dry down. I feel Soir de Lune is definitely signature scent material and a year round classic fragrance.

Manya3

Rich, in-your-face loud, scratchy and dry is what I get unfortunately. Sisley is a great house with a rich history and impeccable taste, but Sisley perfumes attack my nose and there's no getting along for us.
One more fragrance that I admire on an intellectual level, but cannot love. It is so potent that I'm giving up smelling it to try and analyse the notes.
This is possibly beautiful on the right person and good for you if you love it, but I feel bullied by this fragrance just smelling it from a blotter.

Dramaloladiva

Sisley is a house built on great quality ingredients (from around the world) and I love it for their refinement and dedication to create beautiful fragrances and amazing beauty products.

This, to me, smells so French!! It just smells like the South of France, in the country side. It smells like sunshine and honeyed fields and a soft warm breeze. I cannot get enough of this beautiful fragrance.
It is very well blended and though the honey is prominent, it also smells very aromatic and floral.
Soir de Lune (Evening Moon) would suggest this fragrance should be worn at night or on a date but to me, it smells like bright sunshine so I definitely wear it during the day. It is potent at first but it doesn’t stay that way. Soon, it calms down and stays close (at least, on my skin). I absolutely love the way this scent develops on my skin. It smells so cozy (the honey, I presume) and so bright at the same time (the floral notes), and yet so spicy and refreshing! I know this description doesn’t make it justice but if you love aromatic scents, or honey, this is definitely worth a try.
This is Full Bottle Worthy in my book! Love, love, love!

fleader

A prickly prickly rose. Very dry and sharp. Almost masculine in its prickliness. I'm 23 and feel I don't have the standing or wardrobe to wear this but I will revisit

Koningin

My assessment is that this is a very polarizing perfume. Very potent. Not for the light hearted. You either love it or hate it. Personally, I hate it.
It smells very masculine to me. I smell no honey or sweetness. All I get is the woodyness, pepper and coriander. It’s very much a unisex if not male perfume in my eye.

Astara_Elaria

"Power comes from inner peace".
This is a timeless classic that embodies that saying perfectly. Smells expensive and aristocratic like it was made in another age. Goes well with formal business and evening wear, academic small talk and a glass of fine red wine in your library.
Rose, honey and oakmoss develop great on my skin, later sandalwood dominates, which is still underlined by honey and moss.
Worn once after a warm bath, it smelled smokier, sweeter, much more powdery and incense-like. Maybe it was the mimosa and the iris that develop more in the warmth and create this effect. In winter it is more soapy and earthier. Incredibly potent and longlasting. It's perfumey - and yet, at the same time it's not. You smell like expensive soap and some high end perfume, but you won't smell like cheap chemicals. It is strong, balsamic and grounding: it is reminiscent of the forces of the earth, but still elegant and distinguished. For that reason it's also my "calming" scent - I like to wear this to bed after a stressful day. Soothing power of honey, blooming rose and the dark green of the woods.

Addendum: If you are looking for something similar but less potent, you can try AP Eau Emotionelle or NR for her edp.

croissant_pari

Soir de Lune by Sisley fragrance needs use instructions: To appreciate this aroma the temperatures must stay below 10 degrees Celsius. COLD! Only then it evokes a cloudy aromatic, green, woody, sweet rose. It is like drinking a fizzy refreshment. (sad to say that where I live, winter is mild). If it is around 20 degrees Celsius then honey takes the front seat, authentic and aromatic. Above 25 degrees Celsius it focuses on the coriander, it becomes earthier.

LawmaLlama

I'm crazy and blind bought this for the honey note and the stunning bottle. Luckily I loved it immediately! From the nozzle, it smells like a traditional old school chypre with an overlay of honey. I worried it was too old fashioned, but on the skin the oakmoss, rose, iris, and nutmeg come out. I still get the honey and sweetness which I guess is the fruit? I don't get lemon or any citrus notes, and thankfully no patchouli. This isn't heavy. It is very relaxing, soothing, classy, and expensive smelling. You could possibly wear it year round, except perhaps hot summers. I love wearing it to bed.

Aleauv

this perfume does remind me of my beloved coriandre in the drydown part , but soir de lune is much sweeter and sexier. The honey note is strong, I can smell it all the time, is never tamed by the green elements. The rose is sweet , probably it was infused in a big jar of honey . The quality is excellent , is never cloying or screeching on my skin.

JolieSucre

One of the best fragrances out there. A very unique scent, the only thing I can compare it with would be a honeyed version of my beloved Encre Noire, or a honeyed version of the Nivea creme in the blue tin (European).

I think it can be unisex, if worn in tiny amounts. I haven't yet been able to find a dupe and this fragrance is highly expensive. If anyone has any recommendations and can take the time - please PM me! I've worn this fragrance for a couple of years, then gave up on the idea of repurchasing a new bottle as I got lured by newer names and more affordable options.

A beautiful, captivating and special fragrance. To me, it has a 1940s, old Hollywood or old Paris vibe, before the fragrance industry managed to refine notes to nano-molecules and ingredients were a bit fuller and more pronounced. Maybe the note robustness is what gives the impression that this doesn't smell 'expensive' - to me, it smells like a billion bucks, from a time when people paid in gold coins, not paper bills.

I absolutely adore this, most of my friends and my sister dislike it. I can understand that opinions might be divided, and why.

This is a highly potent, rather mature lady perfume. It is not girly, fizzy, sweet, vanillated, lactonic, anything you'd like. It is deep and creamy, it has a similar, powdery and creamy vibe to Chanel Allure- something a more mature mother would war, which makes it even more fascinating. It isn't spicy like that one, but very balmy.

My nose detects rose-based myrrh, honey, Nivea cream (the powder + mandarin), osmanthus and freesia. The Nivea note (honestly, I can feel it even in the drydown, and it's simply beautiful) is the strongest, coupled with the honey and myrrh. Very fairytale-like, a very special scent, unique and very seductive.

In fewer words, it's a mature, very strong honeyed Nivea creme fragrance with rose oil. Absolutely feminine and old-world, invokes a sort of lady from a highly privileged upbringing. Like the wealthy grandmother who went to a private Catholic boarding school in Switzerland as a teenager, then debuted at the Hotel de Crillon in 1938, then married a glamorous pilot.

In the final-final drydown, I detect some sugary notes, pure sugarglass, perhaps those are the last pulses of the honey + rose oil. Absolutely gorgeous and yummy but not in a gourmand way, more of a museum-kind of way. I like it because I like strong scents, but this may not be for everyone.

To me, this is a perfume to be worn on an occasion, not every day, not at school or at the office. If you wore this to a wedding, unless your own, you'd probably overshadow the bride. I find it perfect for a soiree at the opera, or a New Year's party (in Paris).

roxyjuliet

Ooh, this is a true old school Chypre with a modernised sweet, fruity twist. It has elements of many old school classics - e.g. Gres Cabochard and Jean Couturier Coriandre for their deep oakmoss, heart of rose and patchouli and dry earthy (almost gritty) texture.

This is truly unisex and a good signature scent. There is no childishness here, this is for the true grown up, rich in experience, who knows their stuff and is unapologetic about it. Fine stuff.

jazzfan

I tried it several time since it came out. Well done, quite conventional, great quality and that's about it. Typical Sisley. Testers of it kept piling because sales ladies kept giving them to me. Until one of them gave me body cream.
Oh, dear...how on Earth could I disregard something this good? Everything just fell in place.
You see, when Sisley commissioned new perfume from Dominique Ropion they didn't gave him time limit or budget. The Sisley clients are big spenders, rather conservative and they recognize quality. So after Eau de Campagne and Eau de Soir they've got this. Thick, opulent, creamy and decadent. It doesn't shine with originality, but it doesn't have to. It's constructed with so much care and with the best ingredients available. And that body cream is incredible.
I can't afford their cosmetics all the time, just occasionally. And from time to time a big giftbox of Soir de Lune.

DomfromBE

I have been being in love with chyprés since... the 80es but IFRA almost killed them and now I can't stand 1OOO, Aromatics Elixir (and others) anymore. But Soir de Lune was almost a love affair at first sniff. Also one of the rare perfumes I buy over and over, at least two 100 ml FB a year even with my scented wardrobe of 20+ frags.
This is not yummy, it's classy.
This is not mainstream nor cheap, but distinctive.
It's also the one I chose for my wedding day.
Would (very personally) love Sisley to launch a yearly limited edition as they do for its sis' Eau du Soir.

boutique1

This is elegant and deep indeed, but somehow masculine-y for me. Honestly I feel many from this house more masculine than feminine while they claim those are for women. More leaning on men's aftershave-like chypre than womanly sweet floral, best for those who seeking unisex or looking for something different from typical men's perfume as guys.

cherrygalore

Well this fragrance is rather...potent. So much so that I had to turn my head away when I sniffed my wrist. All I'm getting is copious amounts of woody and powder notes. I really can't detect much else.
I'm having a hard time placing the honey, as well as the peach, lemon and orange. Soir de Lune just seems to be overridden by excessive amounts of oakmoss, nutmeg and coriander. There's definitely far too much going on here and it's just far too bold and brash for my personal taste.

Honestly this straight up smells like talcum powder and nothing else, and the talc has a plastic-y scent so it smells rather cheap than luxurious.

It's kinda sad because the bottle is beautiful as well as the name, but the contents is obviously what matters the most with perfumes and unfortunately I can't get along with this one.
But I don't like to leave an all negative review. I will say that I DO understand why some people like it, and it does have a certain vintage quality with lots of depth and character.

I wish I could like this.

DrRosie

This house is for men/women who want to be taken seriously LOL. I love everything they sell including this one. I have only purchased 3 of their perfumes and I love all of them. I wanted to purchase the body lotions as well because I believe the lotions when layered with the perfumes keeps the fragrance on the skin longer. My gosh the lotions are as expensive as the perfumes. Ladies, if you want one really great perfume in your wardrobe, these are worth looking into because they are awesome!

haylinr94

I think I do not like chypre fragrances, otherwise I don't understand why I dislike this perfume so much...

The thing is that it does NOT smell expensive. Is not a perfume that I would spend so much money on. Thank God I only tried a 2 ml sample...

At first, it is bitter. You are overwhelmed by the vetiver and patchouli notes. After drying down, sweetness comes in the form of honey and rose.

For me, only after 2-3 hours it starts smelling decent-okeish.

Good parts are the silage and longevity. Really good ones! My colleagues felt it as well, but they all said it's not a showstopper... I just notice it, and that's it...

Definitely for winter/cold weather. I think it fits a man better than a woman.

Aviance Milan

This on a Man is INCREDIBLE! I wear this here and there and it garnishes tons of compliments. :)

giri-boni

I own a bottle for more than one year. I really like it, but find it hard to use. It definitely has that black pepper and classical chypre structure. It is rich and smell beautiful, straight out of the 80s or 70s. Not my fave, but a beautiful fragrance very polished and elegant.

Yasue

This is my review based on my memories of the original formula, which I had shortly after it came out. It was a gift and I was sure I would love it, but it did not work well on me. I voted it a like, but if you also tend to have an odd turn with some patchouli and fruity combos, try it before you buy--especially now that oak moss is a no-no due to EU bans.

On me, the oak moss was short lived for some reason, which is one of my favorite notes, so that was a let down. The honey and peppery notes dominated it and the citurs among the fruity notes may have been why. Something about this combination and balance of this combination made the floral notes hard to reach. Chypre scents are very tricky on my body and patchouli can get too bossy, so it would have been wise to sample it first. Oh well. It can be exquisite on the right person though, so even if I can't wear it, I like it.

Based on how I like it on others: if this was a person they would be well groomed and refined without the need to be showy, the epitome of class. This is a woman with a manicure that's timeless or a man who is impeccably shaved. It is a person who is stylish and never swayed by trends because they are comfortable in their skin. It is "old money" or very near it, never gauche and nouveau riche.

raiza1990

Powdery, balsamic, opulent. Very old school. Not my thing, but it is a fragrance one reminds. If you like this kind of scent, it is worth a try.

Amy Ann

It is distinctive for sure, but it a heavy one, a night one and you need to like powerfull smell, it's the kind of perfume you love or hate, yet I'm in the middle, the first time I smelled it, it was wearing by a sensational and very respected woman in the business world, so it probably made me appreciate it harder. but it is definitely a strong smell and for me the coriander is predominant in composition and that give a little vibe of incense.

justchillinxo

Heavy, heavy cloying rose paired with something unpleasant and rough.

Just... don’t ever wear this or it’s sister in an office.

I honestly think people are over romanticizing the scent because of the packaging.

There’s something dark or even evil about it, reminds me of having a nightmare.

msginsling

Soir de Lune is in one word stunning! All I have is a sample card handed to me by an assistant in Selfridges and I'm desperate to get my hands on even a sample size bottle.
I'm picking up an olfactory cocktail of Estee Lauder Knowing, Clinique Aromatics Elixer and Jean Marc Sinan Sinan.
There are two distinct layers to Soir De Lune which sit close together and create a beautiful cloud of warm cypher followed by a waft of something classic and expensive. The fragrance has lasted a long time on the card and as time goes on the expensive underlayer is becoming more dominant and beautiful.
I need to start saving.

December 29. I managed to get this juice on my skin and...…….it's not good news I'm afraid. Sisley do not do sample bottles but could reluctantly offer me a squib and another card. The card is divine, but 7 hours after the squib all I can smell is lemon loo cleaner. I think someone here has mentioned urinals and yes I can see where that comes from.
Throughout the 7 hours I kept sniffing my wrist and the under layer of class and elegance so potent on the card sadly failed to appear.
It's obvious that it's my chemistry that is incompatible with the oils...sad times for me. The search for something just out of reach continues.

SQ

Complex, elegant and distinctive. It smells expensive, it is expensive, and it's worth every penny. If you're after a sophisticated chypre, this pretty much sets the bar.

chinook

Soir de Lune opens up with sharp spices that is reminiscent of mothballs. Fortunately it only lasts a few seconds, then the honey settles in. The honey is somewhere between Marc Jacobs Honey and Back to Black by Kilian. Then the oakmoss comes in like a warm cozy blanket, adding depth and warmth to the honey scent. Overall, it reminds me of a lazy afternoon, watching sunbeam pass on the walls. Not my style but very interesting for sure.

DomfromBE

Both Soir de Lune and Eau du Soir require an educated nose, they are too French & classical for the newbies brought up with sweetness and shampoo scents, imho. Expensive, smells distinctive and worths its price.

Nova_

Nauseating, and too masculine for my taste. Reminds me so much of Guerlain's Mitsouko and Estee's Knowing; it has to be the distinctive scents of oakmoss and chypre that make me sick.

kjana

at first i liked it (in the store) nut when i trued another spray at home frim a sample i got,it was too rosey and too sweet(first inprwssion was more sexy and interesting). it us still very good.

fluffydeathkitty

It definitely has some masculinity to it. Out of the bottle it smelled like a 100% men's perfume, but after 5 minutes on the skin it turned a lot more feminine. To me it's a very "posh" smelling perfume. It's elegant and classy, it brings to mind fancy banquets and dinners. I can see myself wearing it with a long black velvet gown. It smells very clean, kind of soapy, but definitely not cheap soapy. It's a lovely perfume and I will definitely keep it for those velvet gown evenings :)

madonnatella

I distinctly remember where I first smelled Sisley's perfume 'Soir de Lune' [SDL]:
it was at the southernmost tip of the Netherlands (when you feature 'Holland'
it is as if you characterise the US with 'Ohio', Holland are just two provinces). Now in such very small country, peasize, nevertheless with 18 million inhabitants,
this "southernmost" is three hours of a trainride. But there it was where I smelled
SDL in its year of conception: 2006. I was immediately heady smitten and I guess proffered the hefty money to buy a flacon the following week. I also remember
where I sniffed 'Eau du Soir' for the first time and it could also have been in the
year of its birth (1999). I immediately acquired there a full flacon with the thought 'we will see how I come through the month (food) if I only have this unbelievable
sophisticated perfume'. Perhaps some paradox is that these two ‘sister’ perfumes
immediately bear resemblance in the opening and as it later would turn out: it
became the Sisley signature. For as well EDS as SDL it is the unbelievable, nostril
clearing of oakmoss which lends this, those perfumes that sensation of deftness, luxury, Madison Ave, Avenue Montaigne and Bond Street "I feel like a million bucks", just like with "Chanel No 19", "Joy", "Knowing" , "Calèche", the original "Miss Dior"
and "Mme Rochas" do. In the oakmoss you get black pepper, patchouli and coriander. I must say in Sisleys SDL the rose is well hidden in the enduring first onslaught
while it comes superrefined at the fore only after a while. (I see this characteristic
here sometimes referred to as 'well blended'.) Is the rose a refined yet well profiled
fellow traveler, the Iris fulfills its role in the classical sense as a demure background to which predominantly spices, pepper and the neverending oakmoss roar. I tend to never agree with Luca Turin but I can imagine that this could be an obstruction of his', experiencing it as a very persevering forestry, woody perfume sparkled alive and tittilating with greeneries and herbal pungency so strong. And it is the same with EDS. But notwithstanding they doggedly keep winning me over. They appeal, and this also is a paradox, not in the least for such prestige skincare brand, both to old money hauteté and very basal. forest floor earthiness, even our ancient crotch sniffing habits all overhazed by 'culture' (well) but the hyenic, canine, feline instinct stays carefully lockered up in a gilded box, not to be absent.

Adina Galani

Luca Turin, well, respectfully, I do disagree with his opinion on a few, including this one. And love love love the attitude of not giving a Damn of what others think about perfume. At least, that much freedom in society one should afford, to wear the perfume one likes, evening, morning or when so ever. Got a friend who waited for her special day to wear this one and she passed away of a harsh medical condition, leaving this unopened for that special time did not come. So, ladies, put on your best dresses, your most beloved perfumes and jewels, daily, you never know what tomorrow brings. This scent is a little calling Agent Provocateur to me, but a bit more exclusive, rounded and absolutely more noble. I get such a beautiful spicy rose from this one it makes me almost teary. It is lady'ish, in the most elegant way. I would really appreciate if we all refrain from using harsh words on fragrances. A scent is like a book, takes time, brain and work. It may not be of our taste, but I never called a fragrance horrible. It may turn that way on my skin, but that is the skin, not the scent which on others can be as well fabulous.

DomfromBE

Perfume and attitude from another time. So well crafted with high quality ingredients so typically Sisley! SDL is like a tailored outfit, may be not the most original in its category but done with such care, you love to wear it again and again.
May be one of the most beautiful and preserved chypre from the mainstream range.
Thank you Sisley/ Mister Ropion for that gorgeous fragrance.
Pricey and worths it.
For the chosen ones...

polina.petrova11

This perfume is a drug . i am deeply addicted .had 3 full bottles ,when opened the third had to buy another one - the fourth . just want to be able to spray 6-10 sprays . I know its a lot . who cares ..its so beautiful .. let them die..them who does not like it .

Mariaro

I'm sorry but I cannot call this a perfume...it's something horrible, I tested on my wrist and I had to wash twice and the horrible smell was still there....smells like something rotten, old, I have an old bottle of Eau du Soir, received as a gift and I was thinking this perfume is expired, but now testing this and finding similarities I was thinking....omg...that perfume it's ok, it's not expired...I don't imagine myself paying for something like this.....

black_orchid

I bought this perfume as a gift to my mother for her birthday and she loved it very much. A month hence when i visit my parent's house, I got an amazign smell from my mother and asked "where it comes from" then She said "this is my birthday gift from you". I fell in love with this perfume! From what she told me, she always gets compliment when she wears it. It is classy, stylish and mysterious... By the way, I really like Luca Turin's opinion about perfumes but I don't agree with his opinion on this perfume.

stearry

This is really mysterious, dark and somehow innocent at the same time, its the reflection of moon on the ocean,
antique locket necklaces, watching moon while listening to soft vintage songs absolutely love it

muahah

In first moments I was hit with cool vintage Luna. After minutes it changed so fast to spicy and mossy. So very vintage, spicy night Luna. I don't feel much floral in it. As few others wrote here it's poetical and magical. Very fascinating perfume, but not for everyone and everywhere. Smelling this I feel like it is silent night time, I'm in bed and there is full moon outside. I should fall asleep, but there are my thoughts and Luna keeps calling me to come and give my hand to him/her. Luna in this case is not her nor him. Now we silently walk through woody path, but Luna is always visible. No words needed, just dreamy existence. Somehow magically we become smaller, closer to earth, and now we can sense much better all these natural earthly and woody scents. Its like we become one with Luna and nature, we are part of it as spirits, floating around and through physical objects, learning these new scents and sensations. Like Luna's magical light can reach everywhere and touch softly. Your imagination have no limits.
It's very strong. I used little, but all room was filled with it. Man told me that it reminds him candies with Berberis vulgaris and that he like this perfume. In my opinion far away from those candies that are sweet. It's so strong, dense, spicy, vintage and I see it as night perfume. Very interesting, but I don't know where and when I could use this. I feel like it might give me headache soon and I need something refreshing after this. For grown up woman, but also this could be unisex perfume.

Flowersnmusk

I cannot wax poetic like the other reviewers herewhen it comes to the notes of this perfume. My nose is not that clever or discerning. But I can tell you this. When I wear this fragrance I call it my rich lady's perfume. I feel like that when wearing it in the evening …very classy and elegant.

If I lived in New York and had a beautiful fur coat (I don't to either one), I think on a crisp, chilly day, close to the holidays, I would very carefully spray this scent on my neck, causing a bit of it to rub off on the fur. It would make my coat smell so very delicious. At the evening's end, when I return to our penthouse with my handsome husband opening the door, the coat would slip off my shoulders. The elegant scent would gently leave a soft whisper it in the room, even after all the hours wining and dining. It would be a perfect reminder of what is to come for the remainder of our beautiful evening.

So while I can't tell you about the notes of this elegant and romantic perfume, I can describe the vision comes that arises in my mind when I wear Soir de Lune . Try some. You never know what wonderful things might come about for a lovely lady like yourself!

Hypnotizing...scent of Paris

MixedTastes

This is dark, hypnotic, spicy magic! Nothing in the world like what I would normally gravitate towards, but I impulse purchased a 5ml sample of this recently...and I'm so glad I did.

Oakmoss, honey and aldehydes dominate the top notes for me, unfolding in to a dirty, peppery rose.

The dry down after half an hour or so on my skin is superb - peppery, musky, intoxicating white flowers and a waft of forest greenery. Really beautiful, narcotic vibe.

Sillage is decent on this, longevity is insane. I could smell it on my wrist 12 hours later. My only dislike with this is that the last traces smell like tobacco on my skin - fresh pipe tobacco, to be precise - which may be a win for some fragrance-lovers, but makes me feel nauseous.

DomfromBE

Very similar to Paloma Picasso but a bit more bitter. Will expand on this review later.

This is a review for Soir de Lune EDP.

This one was a blind buy for me and I can say without a doubt that I got very lucky indeed. Soir de Lune is just wonderful! It's pure incensed rose... the best rose incense you will ever smell in fact.

Granted, the first spray is rather sharp and almost aldehydic... but then it quickly develops into a full, rich rose mixed with exotic spices and musk. Delicious—and it lasts for hours! I can't really perceive the honey, maybe my skin doesn't project this note very well. As the scent settles, the woody notes make themselves known in the back, giving the perfume a well-rounded, elegant base. This perfume manages to be both chypry and smoky to my nose, which is a rather unusual combination (and I mean that in a very good way!).

Soir de Lune is a classy but not snobby perfume. It is very feminine, classic but not dated at all! Personally, I can see myself wearing it both during the day and at night. All rose lovers should give this one a chance!

Cherry_Darling

This is so gorgeous there is something really fresh about it too which is rare for a woody warm spicy fragrance. Really reminds me of something i'm trying to identify what..it might be knowing although that is thicker.

**Just realised what this reminds me a lot of! Portrait of a lady by frederik malle.

allumez

Bought it after the controversial reviews I'd read. Way too dark, Magie Noire de Lancome little sister.
Love the mix, but not suitable for all noses.
I love to hate it...

MademoiselleMaya

A typical chypre. On me they all smell the same - oakmoss, patchouli, pepper, a floral aspect courtesy of rose.A feel like I need to grow into this type of scent a little more. Right now, they do nothing for me. I had hight hopes for honey, which I adore in my parfumes, but Soir de Lune has nothing of the kind for me.

hnica

It is an extremely charismatic fragrance. For a woman, who has both feet on the ground, who demands your attention and your respect. I was thinking, that this perfume would suit perfectly for the Dowager Countess in Downton Abbey. Not an old-fashioned perfume by any means, but a classic. Noble and historical.

Now about the scent. A full-on chypre, not for the faint hearted. Honey and oakmoss are indeed the most prominent notes, you can also smell the patchouli and the spices in the composition. The floral notes are very low-key, and I don't miss them much. I was very surprised when I found out that this perfume was created in 2006. If someone would have told me, that it is from the beginning of the 20th century, I wouldn't bat an eye. Soir de Lune is pure magic, an extremely well crafted work of art.

Many fragrances remind me of music, and this one makes me think of Smetana's Moldau.

strut

My mom wears it and its beautiful scent. Its majestic confidant soft and vibrant chypre, a bouquet that drowns in honey on a white woods. Its has a beautiful silage, recognizable from the first sniff and that fills the room with delicacy. There are some frozen notes that became warmer and warmer as it dry downs and the scent becomes linear rich accord with a hint of nuts.
For my nose the male version of this scent could be lanqome Hypnose for men that shares very similar quality of blending the notes, and of course if it would be done by sisley it would have much better quality ingredients...

MrMikki

I love this perfume and I'm so happy to use it.

I have quite old memories with it, because years ago my piano teacher who used to have the most delicate and rich perfumes had this one too.

For me it is difficult to separate the notes from each others. I hear most of them all together for long hours so top notes stay with middle notes and that's what I like about Soir de Lune.
Especially honey, rose, patchouli, coriander, pepper oil and mimosa together create such a deep and meaningful character.

btw. Good luck if you have friends who like only low-quality commercial fragrances like my friends do! :))

Adina Galani

Anyone noticed the similarity with Agent Provocateur? Only Soire de Lune is bit rough on edges, else, having both on different wrists, noticed the Agent Provocateur's rose is a bit more refined, while this one is a little more on a "Knowing" side. I have both, AP and EL Knowing and in this context, I found owning Soir de Lune unnecessary, in spite of that nice bottle. :-)

mothwings

This seemed promising at first, I was really digging the honey note, but lord it really fell apart on my skin. It turned into this weird cocktail of synthetic vitamin c soap.. It was also so weak I had to use over half of my 1ml vial to even get a feel for it in one wearing. DISLIKE.

Skayalily

I see a strong similarity to EL Knowing, but I feel Soir de Lune is much more wearable. The opening is strong in energy, but restrained in character. The oakmoss rules the day and the honey begins very sweet. This is room blasting sillage to start and remains strong enough to hold a sufficient cloud around me. There's a long phase where the honey has a distinct rawness and dances right up to the line of smelling a bit urine-ish. But after 2 hours or so all that has settled down and it feels like a walk down a tree canopied lane with sunlight streaming through the branches. This is blended masterfully; the oakmoss, rose and mimosa are the strongest players on my skin. And here it lingers for hours; it's gorgeous and refined yet still easy to wear.

HeidiLynn

This perfume was an adventure, the way it developed and the contrast between notes. I can't say I loved it, but I certainly enjoyed wearing it; it was complex and interesting and quite lovely, despite not being my style of fragrance.

The initial blast was a high, dry, dust-motes-in-sunshine smell, like being in a hay barn in summer time, but also with what I thought was a sharp shot of aldehydes. This transitioned within 20 minutes to a hay-and-honey sweetness, still quite pastoral but less dry and more round full. This further developed until the honey was nearly a urinic-sweet honey note, then it pulled back (thankfully) from that, still staying round and sweet.

By an hour, a crystal-clear, green, sharp rose note appeared--not jammy and red, but a quite piercing and fresh rose note, both roses and crushed green leaves. An aldehydic sharp-dry note also appeared, and that and the rose alternated for the rest of the day (8 hours). When I would sweat, the rose became more apparent (went to a physical therapy appointment to be tortured over my back and the rose got very prominent!); otherwise, it was more of the dry, sharp scent that was not quite powdery and not quite iris but close to both.

Probably not a work appropriate scent--shame on me--as the sillage I think was quite strong, and the dominance of the notes, especially the rose, was probably a bit much. But lovely just the same. It was an adventure to smell, I'm thrilled I was able to try it. I only had a decant so no comments on the bottle, but from the images it looks like a work of art!

beatrix75

One of the most sophisticated elegant and graceful scent ever what exist in the earth .Its honey with flowers smell very long lasting ( over 10 hours) magical good quality that turn heads and get compliment .Eau du soir it's like the golden queen strong and magic but tis one take my breath away the best Sisley 10/10

kate23

Fantastic, feminine and complicated scent, sophisticated and mysterious, definitely in my next purchase bag!

Mellyhelly

With a sad heart, I'm putting this Soir de Lune in the dislike shelf for now.
I mostly admire Dominique Ropion, because I think he's a genial perfumer, but a big part of his creations don't work for me. Soir de Lune is one of them. I had high expections (a not budget enough) for this one.
The first whiff is quite ugly on my chemistry. It smells like something very old and musty, but I'm not saying it in the useless sterotype as old lady stuff. I think the "old" comes from the way it is conceived and this is genial, but sadly not for me at this stage. I blame it on honey and oakmoss together (and I like oakmoss!), so I feel on a fence, because I cannot dismiss this one as bad, ugly or forgettable. It's actually a very well made perfume and I suggest to everyone to try it before buying on your skin, because it can be tricky, but if it works it really works!
I understand the similarity with EL Knowing, but Soir de Lune is better!
After enduring more than 2 hours with something that I didn't like on my wrist, the miracle happened: all notes took their place, the rose came out and smell like an ancient rose, the oakmoss (synthetical or not) is beautiful and the whole blend radiates like a well directed choir. Now I see the love from many.
I would say it smells like an elegant, feminine lady would smell and yet it wouldn't be out of place on a refined gentleman. It's a mature smell in the way a mature nose can appreciate a complex smell that doesn't reek of sugar and fruit. A little distant yet not unfriendly, it reminds old pictures in sepia of beautiful women in silks and pearls.
A must try, not necessarily a suitable one.
Unfortunately I don't love this stage so much in order to endure the first 2 hours.

panagiota85

Very similar to Paloma Picasso, slighly more modern.Love it.

mocou

I am in love, soo in love.

Lately I felt kind of blah towards perfume, I didn't know what happened, perfumes used to give me so much joy and made me happy.
Then I came across this treasure, and it reminded me why I love perfume.
Not so much a review as a declaration of love on my part-

But I can say this, I looked for a honey fragrance for a long time, just because I love all things honey really, I tried them all, or al lot of them, and this is it. So beautiful. It reminds me of So Pretty de Cartier.

Silvery

This lady seems hard to get, but if you get to know each other and get on well, you'll be the ultimate couple! The more I sniff this scent, the more I like it, and fantasize about the situations in which I could wear this beautiful, elegant and sophisticated perfume. What it reminds me the most is a rose-sandalwood incense stick, which I used to burn a lot of time. It's mysterious, smokey and very feminine.. I've already imagined a woman in a lacy black-dark red corset with a mask on her face waiting for her next victim of love.. of course wearing Soir de Lune.

jana.hullinghorst

Interesting how someone thinks this smells old, yet has a bottle of mitsouko in their collection....

Loubella

So many reviews for this perfume! personally rose is not my thing and at first application found it too sweet and heady, not as strict and serious as Eau du Soir which I love and is much greener and darker.
It lasted ages on my skin and I started to enjoy the dry down more as it became more complex and the rose faded at little.
It does remind me of Knowing which is also a big fat rose to start with but surprisingly I find the base notes on this (much cheaper )perfume more interesting.

Alayna1011

Please do not delete this; even if this is your favorite perfume, my opinion deserves to stand just as much as yours. I can and will repost if it is deleted. Thanks!

I guess I'm one of the few dissenters here..

I really wanted to like this, because I adore the bottle, but unfortunately this is completely unwearable for me. I think skin chemistry may play a large role with this. Sadly for me, all the masculine, vintage-y aspects are amplified and I end up with something that smells musty, dated and peppery. I can kind of smell the honey in the background, but it is overwhelmed by all the aldehydes and oakmoss. Not getting any sort of florals from this at all. Honestly, this smells a little like Ungaro Diva to me, which I like much better thanks to the rich rose in it.

I can see this being lovely on someone whose skin amplifies sweeter notes, but not on me. Very bummed. I definitely think this is a "try before you buy" kind of scent - not a safe blind buy.

Also, I think the whole "chosen" tagline is really stupid.

xaycparty

This is ... what a woman smells like (to me). It's so playful that you can almost taste it.

maritta

I have a 50 ml perfumed body cream of this and let me tell you you only need a tiny amount of this cream to both wrists and neck (where you normally put perfume) to make you wonderfully perfumed. This is potent stuff.

Eloquaint

Gentle readers, I don't know what to do.

I encountered Soir de Lune while sniffing my way through Nordstrom one evening, and was blown away by the huge, gorgeous honey-ness of it. Just smelling the bottle was a wonderful experience, and the saleslady was amazed that I could identify what I was smelling as honey (she looked up the notes and said "It lists honey as a base note!"), which made me wonder what she was doing in the perfume department, but never mind that. I wasn't really in the market for a full bottle of a new scent, so I took my leave.

But I couldn't get it out of my head, and the next time I was at the mall I went back and asked for a sample. They had one made up by Sisley, which was nice; I like pretty packaging as much as the next girl. But when I sprayed it on my wrist-ach! It was a rose perfume, and quite a strong one. I waited patiently for hours for that beautiful, rich honey to come out, but it never did. Just wave after wave of awful rose. The sample was utterly unlike the tester bottle.

Shall I spray the tester on myself when next I go to Nordstrom? And if it produces the scent I loved, then what? How will I know what might be in a bottle, if I want to buy one? The honey or the rose?

Arabian Knight

This is a wonderful creation that calls to mind the meditative tranquility of Debussy's "Clair de lune". One might imagine a woman taking a midnight stroll under the stars, her perfume trail intertwining with the cool, earthy night air.

It juxtaposes a sharp greenness (coriander, lily of the valley) against a rich, creamy triad of rose, peach and tangy honey. The honey brings to mind the scent of pollen that hangs in the air during the balmy spring evenings, when night-blooming flowers start to hum their tune.

The sweetness is balanced expertly by a blend of dry, woody spices (pepper and nutmeg), adding restraint to the peach, which can so often veer into 'shampoo' territory. It is further restrained by the oakmoss, which envelops all the other notes in a thin shroud of smoky earth.

I am reminded of Guerlain's "Mitsuoko", which was no doubt a huge influence on the composition. However, I think "Soir de Lune" is perhaps even better. The layers have real weight and depth, and no one ingredient over powers the other.

In terms of wearability, it definitely smells more mature, although dubbing it "old lady" perfume is a bit dismissive and shallow really. It's classic, elegant, something you would wear to a piano concert or an art gala.

ZELJO

one of these gold era of parfums ,you smell class on this one, so rich and complex like a chamaleon,of course price is high because its exclusive and smells exclusive, Sisley in a word.

Migalex

Astonishing fragrance but I find it too similar to Paloma Picasso, maybe more floral and more powdery. Paloma Picasso is more animalic. I agree with other people here in that it is also reminiscente of Coriandre, all fragrances I love. To Knowing and Parfum de Peau I do not find it similar. For the price, the strength and the silage, I rather wear Paloma Picasso Edp or Coriandre. Having said that, this is one of to me the nicest scents I ever smelled. Absolutely beautiful. And staying power and silage are also very good. It is classy and sophisticated, like very few fragrances these days. This is what I would expect from any designer fragrance, but unfortunately, fragrances of this quality are a rarity.

TeeTeeRarr

This perfume is heartbreakingly beautiful!...... at least for the first few minutes. It sparked my continued lust for the perfect honey/rose perfume (and I'm not even a floral girl so this speaks volumes). After the first few minutes, it takes on a more vintage feel and the chypre REALLY amps up. Now, I know that this is great news for most of you but I really just wanted those magical first few minutes of uninterrupted dance between the honey and rose to last forever! Beautiful creation nonetheless. Excellent quality, silage and longevity. Sure to get people's attention and compliments. I will get this for my mom.

soir de lune + Quelques Fleurs Royale Houbigant = <3 <3 <3

flowers-in-the-springtime

This is one of the most exquisite and hauntingly beautiful perfumes that I have smelled in a very long time.
Without going into the notes, (which I'm not that great at identifying), this is Chypre in genre, & I swear that I can smell violets in the opening. I also get a gorgeous bouquet of flowers where rose and lily-of-the-valley seem to predominate along with the spiciness of Jasmine.
The perfume is outstandingly potent and lasts forever. It is only removed by washing vigorously.
I am reminded of Estée Lauder Knowing when I wear this, it has a very similar vibe, but is darker, more intense and to my mind, more complex. There's a lot going on here.
SDL is utterly sophisticated and should be worn by a woman and not a girl. I also think that it could be worn by a man, although it is not strictly a masculine scent.
SDL is a magical elixir, an olfactory journey into the boundaries of heaven. Gorgeous!!

Planet_X

I like rains and misty weather, being a grumpy misanthrope deep inside)
And nothing can please me more in such weather and mood as Soir de Lune. Because its hauntingly beautiful, has ghostly presence of English Victorian lady in style of Nicole Kidman in movie “The Others” and its not intrusive one, its just adds what is missing – beauty to your own soul when its in mood for good thinking

The honey, rose, coriandre and moss in Soir de Lune are singing an aria of discreet elegance, its like wearing long gloves and walking under an umbrella in silence – you got the picture.
Dainty, airy, classy, exceptional...Nice to be like that once in a while.

jadetrail51

I can't believe I waited this long to try this. This exudes the elegance and wisdom that hopefully you've earned with having a few years (or experiences) under your belt. This is not something for an ingenue. The woman (not girl) who wears this is sophisticated and respected and regardless of her age is still very sexy. This evokes an image of an afternoon tryst in the most beautiful secret garden; bees and birds are "buzz-singing" in the background to either a Ray Charles or Johnny Mathis melody. Not for every day for me, but WOW is this ever BEAUTIFUL. I might add like previous reviewers that MEN (not boys) really love this. My olfactory challenged husband always tells me I smell and look great whenever I wear this. Silage is heavy, so I either spray and walk through it, or some days just use the Shower Gel. Caution: Do not, let me repeat this, DO NOT WEAR ON THE PLANE.

Edee

This fragrance takes you on a high ride. In one word fabulous. The first sniff I got a somewhat aldelhyde vive. In my opinion this smells like a more sophisticated Arpege. What I imagine a vintage bottle of Arpege might smell like. Sisley Soir de Lune takes everything up a few steps in terms of class, elegance and style. Beautiful combination of scents that has given birth to what will undoubtedly become a classic perfume that will have our great grandaughters wishing they could have this precious jewel in their perfume collection. But we have it now ladies. Let's give her what she deserves. Our praise and exhultation. She is worth every penny spent on her.

sandrajj

I am so happy I don't get the 'honey' at all in Soir de Lune--I just don't do honey! That said, I am totally in love with this frag--I also have Eau du soir, which i absolutely adore. Both of these are longevity bombs on me--and according to compliments, sillage is quite far reaching!
I could have saved myself many $$$ over these years if I had discovered these two scents from Sisley sooner...

Decodawn

SOIR DE lune is a very high end, fine fragrance it is very expensive £150 for a large bottle and an individual fragrance it is timeless and elegant and very sophisticated a beautiful, accomplished woman successful with her life the perfect mother and successful business woman. As individual as it's wearer. Paloma Picasso mon perfume by Paloma Picasso was actually launched in 1984 earlier than Soir de Lune and Soir de Lune is an almost copy. Paloma Picasso is a more affordable fragrance £24.99 from Boots St the moment on special offer

Yamba1

I've read all the reviews of Soir de Lune and the predominate descriptions seem to use words such as 'masterpiece', 'elegant', 'refined' and 'special'.

Well, having blind bought this today and tested it for the first time, I'm here to tell you:
It's all true!!
My interest in perfume has been waning a little lately. There have been nice perfumes; perfumes I can appreciate, but none that have really captured my heart... until Soir de Lune.
Like others have said, it's hard to describe. It's a floral chypre and the first few moments remind me a little of Jean Louis Scherrer with its blast of green and oak moss and a retro vibe. But very quickly, it veers away from it's mossy opening and the honey and rose starts to bloom. I can understand at this point the resemblance to Agent Provocateur in that the rose and spices are here, however it is much more 'refined lady' than 'sexy vamp' as in AP.
I am enjoying this immensely and am already considering hoarding more bottles.

gfp

i do not have much too add only that i think eau de soir and soir de lune have a secret agreement about dividing time between them . EDS suits winter and fall while SDL belongs to summer and spring
. that way they can both live together ever after :-)

Lana148

Soir de Lune is a true gam on today's fragrance market. I adore it so much! It's modern classic! I don't even want to attempt to describe its smell, because I know, no matter what I say, will never be good enough.
I just want to mention that it made in a same fashion like Paloma Picasso or La Perla by La Perla. There are not too many similarities with those in a scent department, but they all belonging in the same "club" of gorgeous, memorable, evening-special occasion, super long-lasting, divine on your skin fragrances.
Suir de Lune does seem to have the "youngest", most youthful, light and airy personality compare to the other two.
It is an aromatic, spicy, green/floral. Fresh rose scent really stands out. Again, this description is really poor and there are so much more going on here...
The only negative: I wish, I can wear it more often, but to me, this is just way too special for casual wear. I know, there are some ladies out there that can pull it off for everyday and I am jealous :(

bibibon

It's divine in the evening after a day in the sun... on sun tanned skin. For warm soft summer evenings. To dry for winter... Classy, expensive. Very unique, never smelled anything similar. Men and women has complimented me on this one. Have to have this for those beautiful evenings.

zosoroxy

SdL = Deep, dark, dense, forest perfume magic. Niche quality. A complex, rich, woodsy, chypre bombshell beauty, *drenched* in Honey (minus the sugar). Unique among today's mass market perfume-boom. Top shelf stunner- Oozes Opulence. Seems far too good to be a current composition- More like an old-school, pre-IFRA, oakmoss-laden masterpiece, for which we are forever hunting rare, forgotten bottles @ upscale Estate sales & secret vtg. parfumeries. Timeless. Dig it!

AMPED Sillage & Longevity! Impressive value- performs like Extrait layered w/ EdP. A very little pale juice goes a long way. A single spray wears 2 days, even 'thru showering, & it's captivating trail lingers for months on sweaters/coats. Too much is ruinous. Spritz in air & walk through.

Like all the greats, this is a poor blind-buy bet. If you tend to prefer fruit/florals, this probably wouldn't appeal to you. Definitely try before you buy. If you're in continental US, I'm happy to share a sample. For reference, my other favorite heavy hitting chypres include vtg. Miss Dior (1947 original) & Dioressence, Mitsouko, Aromatics Elixer, & the more contemporary Portrait of a Lady... If you like those, you may be interested in sampling Soir de Lune. (Pls remember- Other than name, the original Miss Dior of 1947 bears 0 relation to Dior's current eponymous fruit punch).

movs

I find it really hard to describe this perfume in details. What can I say? It’s absolutely divine!
The most prominent note is honey on a base of patchouli. Those two notes are softer and more creamy than usual, maybe because they are balanced in the most beautiful way by a sweet classic rose. The perfume is so skillfully blended that I can’t point out any further specific notes than those 3 already mentioned. It just smells so elegant, so classic, so rich and so feminine. The over all impression would be soft spicy rose and honey that turns a little woody by time.

I remember it was the beautiful sillage that made me turn around and go back to the shop to buy the perfume. While the perfume certainly lingers for hours I’m no longer so certain about the sillage. I can clearly smell the perfume for hours and hours when I sniff my wrists but I don’t get wafts of it when I move. That’s why I would say that longevity is very good but sillage a bit disappointing.

This perfume is what perfumery is all about. It is so well crafted and the ingredients smells so exquisite and luxurious. If you adore classic perfumes and can live with a minimum of sillage, you must test this beautiful creation.

In 3 words: ELEGANT - CLASSIC – RICH

Softfox

I think the one i bought might be turned, or maybe its just my skin chemistry; but i don't enjoy it. Its too masculine somehow, i don't get a nice honey i was hoping for, rather something strong vintage vibe.

katija

This is wonderful alone; but I love it more paired with Arba Wardat. They are amazing together.

CHRISOPIGI

on me it is ....sexy (as the boys say) but I am not enjoying that much myself. I think it is too strong on my skin.
A nice scent though. For evening.

nikoleta1

I had a sample of it before and the sweetness of honey was throwing me off, but yesterday I smelled patch very strong patch, like in Angel, I thought I have another perfume, it is classy perfume, just like Eau de soir with honey))))good longevity.

annamualla

It make me sick:/ it is the worst terrible fragrance i have ever tested :((

nadiadncr

I received today a sample for it and I have to say I hate it. The smell reminds me of highschool when girls I didn't like used to wear that perfume, not a great memory. It's cloying and has amazing staying power. Unfortunately not for me.

lizs123

This is my most treasured perfume. Utterly beautiful. A once a year precious spray, only when the time is right.

The same notes somehow as Beethovens Pastorale, 6th Symphony. Beautiful.

Kateri81

This perfume smells like newborn baby lying in honeycombs and roses. Bees buzzing around and sun is shining through the fresh green leaves. It feels like lullaby, so soothing and calming. All about this fragarnce seems real and natural. I'll give a birth to a baby boy this May and I very much consider buying this perfume. It will be perfect for that time and for this coming occasion. Or maybe cos I'm slowly falling for it :)

demby

Londonchick

On very first spritz I detected an old fashioned 70s heady floral, mildly reminiscent of a 50s pin-up, all busty with ruby red lipstick.
I dismissed the fragrance as nice but 'not for me' .....
Later came the drydown - wow I was very impressed by the sillage. I love me a strong, bold make no apologies fragrance. An old fashioned tea rose with something somehow aquatic.... Lily of the valley and musk add the old fashioned powdery yet strangely refreshing qualities.
The honey and rose develop really nicely here and whilst its still too "old fashioned perfume" there's a certain something, perhaps the oozing warm honey combined with mimosa that really lifts this into what can only ineloquently be described as a "real wrist sniffer" - strangely captivating.

gabi

I enjoy the smell, it is sophisticated, classy, lady-like. My only 2 concerns are :1-it isn t longlasting on my skin at least, about 3 hours, then it s gone ans 2 -I don t think it is worth the very high price.

username101

It's one of the perfumes that spoke to me. I don't know how to quite describe the scent. It's definetely unique.

kayraven

This is my HG fragrance, became addicted to it as soon as it came out. It's a beautiful feminine, mature, sexy, sweet, sensual, mysterious and somehow radiant scent. It's got a strong opening, which may put some people off, but after some time blends with the skin scent and becomes a deep sweet scent. This fragrance is a fusion of peach, bergamot, mandarin, lemon, coriander, nutmeg and capsicum pepper oils, May rose centifolia and mimosa flower absolute, jasmine, lily of the valley, iris, moss, musk, honey, mimosa, honey, sandalwood and Indonesian patchouli. I also love the honey component of this scent. The bottle is definitely beautiful and well thought of, but not too convenient to carry around. Would repurchase this without even thinking.

loismonahan

Just received this. I had caught the most wonderful scent on a woman in a shop and had to ask what she was wearing. It immediately reminded me of something from my past. I am thinking "Vivre"? That was one of my all time favourites and pretty well impossible to get today. Soir de Lune smells very sophisticated and unique. I am smitten!

SadieBluesLady

I wore this perfume for the very first time this afternoon and it is GORGEOUS!!!!! I couldn't beieve how beautiful it was on my skin, I was in heaven just breathing in the fumes.

Now if only I could afford a full bottle . . .

tredan01

I absolutely love Eau du Soir...but unfortunately strayed away from my beloved to try Soir de Lune...too much honey and rose for my taste. I must admit that after a long hot bath and lots of soap, this perfume still smells but a lot better! However, nothing special IMO. If anything, it has great longevity!

L'Arlesienne

I love this, on me it's a fantastic rosy chypre, poised and elegant, close to Agent Procateur dry down. I love it. Perfect sillage and longevity, very refined and lady like!

hbomb9410

On my skin, this smells like a generic brand men's shaving cream. I can't discern which note is responsible for this. I smell no rose, no honey, and no patchouli. It's very dry, chemical, and soapy. I'll hang on to my sample and try it again during the cooler months, but for now, I'll pass.

Dinahzita

It's something between Gem and First and Paloma Picasso and pure heavenly deliciousness... I'm in love with it!

maryellen3

I love the perfume (edp). I've been wearing it almost daily for a few years, though I do apply sparingly, and I've received many compliments on the fragrance. The bottle is elegant, I hate the cap.

ArtzGirl

If Eau du Soir is the QUEEN, then this is the Princess. A bit more youthful, playful, and flirty than Eau du Soir - but definitely a very close relative!

This is the little sister or possibly daughter fragrance of Eau du Soir. I can detect a very strong base chord of Eau Du Soir carrying the lower notes of this fragrance. It is much lighter and more playful than the very rich mother fragrance.

Still, a very sophisticated blend of notes...discernably wealthy. You can definitely tell that the blend of ingredients in this is "upper crust" - but a slightly more up-beat lift to it, than Eau Du Soir.

Many people have stated in their reviews that this is still a "mature" fragrance, but with my chemistry, it is taking on a very playful, flirty dimension that I am not finding in Eau du Soir.

It smells like it could possibly be a vintage collection fragrance. It definitely has a quality like this could have been introduced during the era when fragrances were much stronger and more concentrated.

This is definitely a fragrance that will either blend well with your chemistry - or could really "turn". I'm able to wear this, but feel that it would be best in the colder months or more in the evening when it is cooler. This could become very "heady" - as in "head ache material" - if you were working in a closely knit office environment - or were in an elevator with someone wearing this. Be nice, don't over spray. A little bit of this could go a LONG way!!!

-------------

This fragrance became very cloying on me about 2 hours into wearing it. I even washed a portion of it off, then later hit the gym and did my jacuzzi routine. As far as the "hot water test" goes... this fragrance was totally hypnotic and mesmerizing after the jacuzzi! I can normally tell when a fragrance is just "perfect" when I can steep in the jacuzzi then still smell a hint of the perfume on my wrists after the hot water soak! This fragrance exceeded my expectations. I may have to give it another try. I loved the fragrance as I was coming out of the gym!

truffles

Mmmm, it chose me. Right up my alley and so much like a lot of things in my wardrobe already. Sampled thanks to a lovely Fragrantican swapper, will look out for this.
Interesting bottle and having a look at the 'nose' - wow what a broad range of frags she is responsible for! One or two of them I like and one or two - not!
Oh, and it's nice to sniff a relatively modern perfume that doesn't fall into the current blight of floral fruities/fake vanilla/overtly chemical & poorly constructed smells!

Axum

I was standing in front of Soir de Lune at the duty free shop in Delhi airport this evening when a sales assistant came along and sighed, "This is most beautiful perfume, madame..." He took down the bottle and sprayed it several times on his wrist, until the skin was soaked. "...and it is so strong!"

It is indeed. But I can understand why he did it. Soir de Lune is a distinctive chypre, thus not for everyone. If you are able to carry it off, it can become addictive. I find it considerably more approachable and warm than Eau du Soir, which I have also. I respect and admire Eau du Soir; I love Soir de Lune.

Muneca

Elegant and intense. Mysterious and fascinating. Unfortunately it did not choose me. The initial notes of lemon, bergamot, orange, mandarin, coriander, nutmeg and pimento did not blend well with my chemistry - and actually thought I was going to be ill. Then the heart of this - rose, mimosa, jasmine, lily-of-the-valley, peach - finally seemed to appear and calmed my aching head! The base of warm and sensuous moss, musk, patchouli, honey and sandalwood lingered on and on and on. This was one fascinating journey that I was glad I experienced - just wished the beginning would be better to me. Of course I had to try it a second time with 1 squirt (instead of 2) in hopes it was not the perfume that made me feel so ill - but it was in fact the evening moon making me feel sick - boo hoo. So I sadly said farewell and passed it on to another member here. I can STILL smell the warmth and coziness of the sweet and darker base on my jacket sleeves. It makes me smile - even though I wasn't "chosen".

Fabulous scent for experienced noses only...

Top quality perfume.

For young intelligent passionate women. I would wear it only during special time with a very special lover in a very special place.

AveParfum

I prefer this to Eau du Soir, but it's another perfume I did not enjoy wearing one bit. I LOVE honey perfumes, and while this one has plenty of honey, the perfume overall was not impressive. I have honey perfumes and I've sampled many more than I own, and to be honest, this is the worst one to me. It lacked depth; was uninspired. Definitely a sister to Eau du Soir with that awful, fake, salty oakmoss.

onebadbaby

This perfume opens with a strong potent, quite spicy rose note and reminds me of Agent Provocateur in the initial blast with that gone off lipsticky, cosmetic rose note, but softer than AP. It soon settles into a musky floral rose perfume and as it dries you are left with the sweet honey notes, although this isn't a sweet sugary scent at all, it's quite dry and sophisticated. The silage is very good and it really does last on the skin with a soft honey rose lingering all day. It has similarites with AP, Narsciso Rodriquez, Citizen Queen and Jessica Parker but all of these are softer and sweeter and don't have the wow that this one does.

Aigner_Again

Yes, it's rich and good and expensive, but nothing is 'warm', 'elegant' and 'romantic' about it. I find it cold, enormously heavy and formal. Could be a perfect wear for a business lady. Not for young-at-hearts! Caused me a headache within 3 hours.

Kookabird

I went shopping for a new ‘signature scent’ over the weekend; if you’re looking for a beautiful, distinctive and unique perfume, this must be tried. So warm it’s like nuzzling a cuddle.

Absolutely WHACKS of honey - I barely noticed the rose at first. Not normally into sweet/gourmand perfumes but this was so authentic I didn’t mind – this honey is so dark and plant-y, blends perfectly with sandalwood & spices.

I really couldn’t stop sniffing and trying to get to the bottom of this scent for a good 90 minutes. However as it dried down the rosiness became overpowering and there was also dry musty smell that reminded me of talcum powder! I think it would be great for someone who REALLY loves rose but…I really don’t :(

In the end I actually got a sore head and tried to scrub it off but…no luck! Literally washed my wrists about 4 times and but couldn’t get rid til I showered next morning!

This is totally individual, fascinating and definitely worth the money. But only for specific tastes – not mine!

hollyc

In a word beautiful, but like an elegant lady, this lovely doesn't rush to disply her charms, you must wait. Initially goes on in a boozy, overblown rosey rush that I'm not fond of, much like Narciso Rodriguez. But instead of remaining linear like NR, this blooms with peach and spices (cardamom maybe)or coriander. Anyway, the effect is so beautiful and long lasting. I can still smell it on skin next day and on fabric for days. I suspect it still contains a healthy dose of oakmoss too. Good but not obnoxious sillage and appropriate for anytime and anything, that is if you want to smell wonderful. Bravo Sisley and thank you!

mylancome

Agree with Victoria. People who doesn't know how to appreciate strong, complex, high quality perfumes would say it's a stinky perfume.

Victoria Plum

I recently acquired this perfume. I've had it before but the jus seems to be tamer than how I remember it first time around. I love the scent, despite Luca Turin declaring it a'cheap and nasty knock off of Perfume De Peau.' Sorry Luca. But really want to try Perume De Peau now....

cloyd42

I don't know whether to say this is strident or to say it's aggressive. In any case two images repeatedly come to mind as I sniff this stuff: being hit hard in the face with a bouquet of thorny roses or drinking a glass of really nasty gin poured over rose petals. This is the kind of perfume that the harridans that Flannery O'Connor used to write about would wear. Additional negative points for faux exclusivity. What precisely are those who are chosen being chosen for? A rare yet major miss by Dominic Ropion.

Sillage: surprisingly small
Duration: I gave up after an hour
Fabulosity: a galosh full of maple syrup
Value to price ratio: poor
1/10

opa

Love it! It is just like a dream about something we feel we had but can't recall when and how..

PricklyAndHot

Strict, calm and elegant chypre!

Most of all I feel the coriander, musk and moss notes in this fragrance, especially the coriander note. And it even reminds me a little bit Coriandre by Jean Couturier.

Actually, this chypre seems to me green enough. And as calming as a forest scent:) I wouldn't say that it's sweet or just on me it's not. The lasting power is really good.

I like this fragrance because it's really worthy and noble.

natalia.morozova

One of the strongest in my collection - very elegant, noticable and attractive. Rose is very beautiful. Chypre. I used to wear it for a long time until i got sick. Since that time I have got a headache every time I wear it. It is a pity( I miss it a lot. It is applealing both to men and women.

mylancome

I must admit, beside the price tag, it's hard to wear cause its monster silage, strong perfume that it's a waste to wear it casually.

irisjetaime

This perfume looks like "Coriandre by Jean Couturier"
It's a perfume for mature woman not for a teen.
hard to wear.
I'm a mature woman but it's not for my skin.
I think it's a kind of tabacco perfume.
Very "femme fatale".
Nothing like "Déjà vu" !! Because no one wears this perfume in France. Very very expensive for a French girl who prefer classical scents like Chanel, Dior, Saint Laurent, Guerlain...

It's almost a "niche" perfume....

daniela3

I'm pretty sure that this is not a particularly 'new' fragrance, it reminds you too many other 'colleagues', probably it's also not 'very elegant' and perhaps it pretends also to be 'chic'.... BUT... despite some (2) 'critics' (L.T+T.S.) among few others - not so enthusiastic about it (not to say really negative) no matter what the 'experts' say, they ARE NOT always right, quite often even prejudiced also: the relationship between me and my frag is unmistakably personal! So I confess to love it though I can't tell why and what cause me to be so totally for it. It's a really opulent fragrance, an opening which overwhelms you with a triumph of flowers welcoming you together with the good season; a richness which simultaneously involves not only flowers (a collection!) but spices, fruit and incense. Only the ability of an experienced Nose has helped to reach such a brilliant result instead of a general mess! A great, complex and balanced composition, with a super sillage and an astonishing persistence. It is an aid when you feel down, as it inspires joy and good humor, I only wish I had bought it before!

mylancome

Agree with akats, when I have the money, I buy both. It's a pity Eau Du Soir is not as long lasting as Soir De Lune.

akats

Great. It's the Winter version of Eau de soir. Darker, warmer, spiced and rich. It retains its chypre character, yet it is more floral rosy I think. It starts completely different from other perfumes. Quiet at the beginning, almost a close to skin smell, and as the time goes by, it becomes stronger and stroger, revealing more of its accords. Its sillage is great after many hours and staying power terrific! Having tested this on one hand and Eau de soir on the other the same day, I noticed remarkable differences. As I said, Eau de Soir is more airy, fruity and green. A Summer delight. It begins strong and rich so that you cannot compare any other smell you may have tested the same day. That time, Soir de Lune seems pale...After one-two hours, the roles have been reversed. Soir de lune take its role as the King and Eau de soir as the Queen. Dominique Roption managed to create a modest at first fragrance character, which unfolds time after time. If I had to choose between Eau de Soir and Soir de Lune, I would choose the first for its joyful sense. If I had enough money to spend on one day, I would definately buy both, as they are perfums of the same taste addressing to the same person.

Cams

This one is an absolute fav! I wore this yesterday and sprayed it at 7 am and at about 3:30 (long after I couldn't smell it anymore) I walked past a woman and she said to me "wow, your perfume - what is it?" and I happily told her Soir de Lune. She then said - "perfumes make me sneeze but your lovely fragrance did not". I love when my fragrance gets noticed for all the right reasons and this one contains all of my top shelf notes. An absolute gem!

virga

Radiant and rich high quality honey scent, probably the most realistic honey perfume I ever tested. Rose, mimosa, patchouli and pepper are prominent as well. It is so rich, that after a few sprays on my neck I started feeling a little bit dizzy. Some say it is similar to Eau du Soir, but to me these two are as similar as nun and courtesan. Although I love Soir De Lune, I am not going to buy it, because it is too feminine for my taste. I don’t feel comfortable wearing it - instead Lune wears me. But for divas, who like honey, rose and are not afraid of strong scents it must be heaven. The bottle is very impressive too.

missk

Soir de Lune is not something you'll find yourself liking immediately, in fact for some the initial blast is a bit much, but once this fragrance settles it's a totally different kettle of fish and one that stays in your thoughts even once the scent has dissipated.

It's a little hard to describe how Soir de Lune smells to me. In some ways it reminds me of Giorgio by Giorgio Beverly Hills, but of course a more refined and elegant version.

I'll start with describing it as a delicious, powdery rose chypre. The rose note is slightly jammy and sweet, drizzled with honey and further complimented by fresh slices of juicy peach. The blend is luxurious, smooth and warm.

The heart introduces some interesting spices and woodsy notes. It's here that Soir de Lune settles into chypre territory, becoming slightly earthy and dense. Sandalwood comes in the form of sandalwood scented incense sticks, a smell I relate to as the scent of those new age stores. Soir de Lune essentially reminds me of the mystical, gypsy types.

The longevity is truly wonderful, clinging to the skin for what feels like forever. Soir de Lune is the kind of rose that I love to wear. In other words, it's a rose fragrance that doesn't smell strictly of garden roses. It's got an aggressiveness to it, and I like that.

I highly recommend Soir de Lune to any rose enthusiast or chypre lover. It's one fragrance that I wish I hadn't overlooked until now.

I got the year 2009 prestigious edition last Friday. Today, after Chinese New Year Holiday, first day of work, I wear it.
I took 3 or 4 spray cause it's a new bottle. The scent indeed is more modern and younger compare with Eau Du Soir. It's sweet, uplifting, happy, and most important very long lasting.
Though compare with Miss Dior Cherie is more expensive, but Sisley quality, you know you spend your money on the right brand.
I gonna wear this on the coming Valentine's Day.

mylancome

An incredible lasting, beautiful fragrance starts with a beautiful concept. The stopper sculpture shows the image of young Count Hubert (the moon with a man face) and Isabelle. It's like bring back their sweet memory when the couple are in love and kissing under the moon. I will get this perfume, so that I can share their happiness and bless this husband and wife loving each other forever.

I think the formula is the same as Eau Du Soir, but add with honey to create the sweetness. Makes the chypre last a lot.

Update: Oh! I love Soir De Lune more than Eau Du Soir!!

I should say this is a Chypre Fruity, the oakmoss well-blended with honey, mandarin and apricot.

sommerregen

A very soapy, clean and fresh smell....I like it but I think it suits mature women rather then young girls.

tjjbjaeg

Very strong. not for the weak or faint-hearted. More for those who enjoy eau de toilet cleaner and strong soapy smells. If I breathe out on to my skin so that the moisture from my breath dampens my skin, I can smell a trace of flowers, otherwise just an OTT "perfumey smell" that could cause adults to drop at fifty meters. Not for me this one, but I recognise that I am apparently in a minority, since most people are using words like classy, feminine, elegant and honeyed. Ho hum.

Mirella7

Extremly long lasting. It lasted more than 30 hours. And I could smell it on my shirt after washing and ironing it. I can really appreciate long lasting perfumes so I ended up loving it, although I did not like it at first.

Norgirl

im whit Tuturudka one this one , smells like inscens sticks , but in a good way.
not shure i can pull off a bottle of this , but a tester i have got and thats a treasure for shure :)
Very autumn scent to me , warm cosy. but not all me .
very different then i imagined it to be

Soir de Lune is a throwback to a genre whose heyday was the 1970s-1980s: the heavy rose chypre. Maybe it's a tribute, maybe it’s an attempt to revive a faded genre, but it lands squarely in the company of Ungaro’s Diva, Sherrer’s Scherrer, Lauder’s Knowing, even Paloma Picasso’s Paloma. It’s often compared to L’Arte di Gucci, which I’ve never tried.

It is as substantial as the others in the genre, but not as pleasing. It comes off as strong but simple, blanketing but not shadowy like the best of the rose chypres. I can’t actually say the balances are entirely off, but they aren’t inspired. The moss seems forceful but not deep. The citrus topnotes don’t lead into the rest of the perfume. The spices don’t lend richness. The rose is…well, it’s there.

SdL doesn’t reach the heights of the genre that its predecessors did. Perhaps its failings are due to the restrictions on ingredients that made the older rose chypres so robust and full. Fortunately, the chypre genre is forgiving, and while not breathtaking, SdL is not unattractive from any angle.

tuturudka

To my nose it's like a vanilla indian incense sticks. The same scent I can get in every indian shop, I like the frag, but there's something annoying me.

atiet97

Only like the beginning, when burst of fresh notes seems promising. The top notes however goes off in a blink of an eye. Fast and furious. After that it went too peachy, rosy and honeyed like. The mid and base notes develops badly on my skin as it goes sour and sweet. There were also certain notes that I couldn't compromised in the composition, the significant stale smell of rose combined with honey. Perfectly a turned off for me.

Soir de Lune is classic, warm and elegant, but as much as it might worked well in other people, unfortunately it doesn't suit my happy and bubbly personality. However I think this could be a very nice gift for my mother as it radiates warm and cuddly motherhood feelings.

eid-althani

a very rich and heavey perfu thats what i luv about it its realy weird that i share this perfu with my mum its very expensive but hey am goin to buy it from harrods ok lets return to the maine subject soir de lune is not what ur goin expect from this line its very diffrent than the other perf in this house its not sweet at to me its smell like orange blossom and staranise very unique its a love or hate perfu

This is real masterpiece. I found it last year in the Munich airport. I sprayed it twice on my wrists and during long fly to Seoul I was very impressed. It changed a little but the projection and viability was unbelievable. Almost 11 hours later perfume was so strong as in Munich. During way back in Seoul I did the same experiment again and few people in the plane asked me what I’m wearing because smell was heavenly beautiful. Than I realized that Soir de Lune is classified as feminine fragrance. Anyway I don’t care because in my opinion fragrances don’t have sex and this masterpiece is waiting on the list for purchase ASAP.

Louw

I don't normally go for chypres, but I do like this one.

I bought it on the strength of one testing (which I wasn't 100% sure about) because a very enthusiastic saleswoman gave me the most emotional sales pitch I've ever witnessed - all in Russian! My Russian language skills are basic, and I struggled to keep up with what she was telling me - I'm sure I misunderstood a lot of it - but I felt she'd put so much passion into her description that I just had to buy it!

As it happens, I was not disppointed - I love the slightly peppery jasmine and lily-of-the-valley notes. I find it quite a sparkly and cheering fragrance - a real 'feelgood' perfume!

alexandra.07

Quite different from some of my perfumes.
In my view, it's not for young teenages. It's for fascinating woman who fascinate people with her internal demeanour.
The scent is elegant, intense. And I love it very much.

Habanita

Fresh and sour. Not my type.

update: mini no longer available (it had a little "accident" and fell into the waste basket in my bathroom)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After reading all the glowing reviews, I got my hopes waaaaay too high, and got a mini of Soir de Lune on eBay.
I am not sure if my mini has gone bad, or is it my body chemistry but, kidding you not, it turns into a revolting, well aged cat piss-like stink on me no more than 10 seconds after application.
It does smell ok when sniffed right from the bottle but, on my skin, zOMG... total barforama.
To make things worse, it has a tremendous staying power. But, hey, if this one works for you, that incredible staying power would be a very good thing, non?

So, if anyone is interested in a mini of Soir de Lune, PM me; I will be happy to part with it.

I am know for this fragrance,I work as an international Flight Attendant. On countless occasions passengers have asked the name of my scent they say it so pleasant every time I walk past.I work 14+hr flights and only ever add a small spray prior to landing. This perfume doesn't work for everyone, my friend bought it and re-gifted to me because she said it smelt hideous on her.
If I had $1 for every time someone male and female asked me where to buy this fragrance I think I could possibly afford a couple more bottles.
My crew always say they know I'm near because I smell so beautiful and yes that is some compliment.

malia

I love it. Very feminine and elegant. And verrrrry classy.

mediterranean

How beautiful this one is, much better than eau du soir which turns sour on me. Very long lasting. I can smell lemons and roses here. Very nice.

I wear for 2 or 3 days the Soir de Lune and I am more and more captured by it. It is definitely not a love at fist sniff, but it is a promissing bond between us, it knows me, I learn to know it, it respects me, it brings out the best of me... it is elegant and not at all strong or suffocating, it just makes a nice statement, unique, a little bit cold and severe at first, but then a familiar smell... I totally disagree with those who find Soir de Lune strong or difficult to wear.Ok, I admit, it is not for everyone(I am fortunate it is for me), but it can be a signature scent, it is an unforgettable one. In addition, I cant understand how some people cannot smell the honey, when this ingredient could be the most dominant and therefore, annoying to someone. After 20, 30 minutes it s really nice, a little bit sweet but not like angel, discrete... it reminds me of nature and woods. In conclusion, what I find really interesting in this perfume is that you dont smell like you are wearing perfume, rather than something natural, that is why I think Soir de Lune has the best ingredients,it could be perfect for those who suffer from allergies etc... I think it is the only perfume that didnt make me chock(although I put a lot of it!!!). The second feature is that it is a unique scent which you dont smell elsewhere, therefore it could be an unforgettable signature perfume. I think it can be worn either in the winter either in the summer...and it can be an alternative to Eau du Soir from time to time... I prefer Soir de Lune, I think it is more refined but less powerful, whereas Eau dU Soir is more brutal but more strong...stays with you forever... I am really happy with my purchase and I am planning on purchasing more perfumes from sisley...that they all have a natural feeling

Ulysses

If the Chopin Nocturne No. 13 played by Arrau had a smell, it would be like this. I do not know what's on the pyramid, but I feel and want this one at once. Velvety, melancholy, romantic, soft, persuasive, driven by a barely restrained passion, as hot as the hand of a loved one you hold in a cold night under a starry sky ,where a crescent moon winks and lingers in the blue, lazy and languid.

Corto Maltese

In my opinion, Soir de Lune has a rather good idea tainted by a flawed realization. It evokes a dreamy atmosphere, reminiscent of Marc Chagal's paintings, Corto Maltese in Venice, or maybe even stark surrealism of melted clocks from Dali's paintings, but it is way too sweet like a pancake stuffed with sticky honey. There is too sharp a contrast between spiritual and surrealistic intentions characterized by an elemental and even minimalistic dualism of fresh iris and sweet and gooey mimosa, and rather down-to-earth materialistic smell from grandma's kitchen, even with a whiff of nutmeg and pepper oil to top it. If there had been fewer notes it might have been better and the idea could have been better transposed into olfactive reality. In my opinion it is much sweeter and heavier than Eau de Soir, which is a real chipre. The warmth doesn't make up for it.
