Tokyo Bloom by The Different Company is a Aromatic Green fragrance for women and men. Tokyo Bloom was launched in 2012. The nose behind this fragrance is Emilie Bevierre-Coppermann. Top notes are Dandelion, Basil and Black Currant; middle notes are Cyclamen and Jasmine; base notes are Musk, Guaiac Wood and Amber.

Tokyo Bloom takes three green elements— galbanum resin, basil leaves and dandelion—and gives them a pastoral comforting pureness. Sweet freshness with an angelic, soft light that only becomes shadowy when the mossy, warm base reveals itself on skin.

Notes: galbanum, basil leaves, dandelion, cassis, star jasmine, cyclamen, guiac wood, musk, amber.

First impressions here.. The name and the bottle describe this scent well. I’m a huge fan of green fragrances. I arrived at this one because I love Mugler Cologne/Come together, 78 Vintage Green, and Versace Versense.

To me, the opening is identical to Come Together. As it dries I definitely get the blooming dandelion. May be full bottle worthy if it doesn’t turn too feminine on my skin like Versense, and if it can be had at a discount under a hundred bucks. So far I’m loving it. Will be perfect for spring/summer. If you’re into green, get a decant. Will give it some more wears and report back.

Scent is 10/10, but sadly longevity and performance are an issue as with most of these lighter scents. Might try spraying like 10 sprays or the rest of my decant in hair and on clothes to see what happens. Will probably be better off just getting a backup of Mugler, but would have to get a good deal on a full bottle of Tokyo Bloom to purchase.

Verrucosa

I really like green perfumes and this is a nice one. Very fresh, dandelion studded lawn opening which dries down to a gentle floral musk. It's quite light and fleeting and I really wish that opening lasted longer but it's lovely. It would be a great thing to spritz on post shower and it's nice on a snowy day to remind you of spring.

an_baum

mmmm!!! this is what i imagine "aquatic" scents to smell like. then i smell an actual aquatic perfume and usually recoil. but this one-- even though aquatic isn't listed as a note-- is exactly my fairy, watery aquamarine dream smell come to life. soft and bright, like light sparkling on a clear pool. a calming green floral that never gets screechy, sharp or overwrought. sigh, i wouldn't purchase it, as it lasts for maybe an hour tops.

Frangipanilove

On the first spray, I get a big whiff of triplal, which is an aromachemical used to create green notes. However, after a minute or two this starts translating to the listed dandelion with its crushed butteriness in a nice way. Its a very modern and young fragrance but nice as that. Not much sillage, quite intimate and very light, but lovely. Teenage fragrance but nice. I can just see the dandelions in the park.

lmnsvgz

A bit too green for my taste but this smells like a field during springtime. It is youthful, joyful...just pretty.

Not_So_Perfumy

It's very interesting. It's fresh, but in a floral way, not citrus. It has a certain "bite", or some kind of spiciness, I'm not sure what it is, maybe the blackcurrant?
Not getting amber or musc; it's floral and "woody" in a certain way.
Must test before purchasing, it's not that challenging, but it's definitely different and artistic.

Mt.Carmel

nice soft scent.

identical with Chanel - Biarritz

silver_horizon

So nice. I wish it would last and smell a little less flowery.

asjkfbs653

Off putting. It’s really weird. I’ll pass thank you very much.

BGBG

Petitgrain, neroli, musk. It is quite similar to Mugler Come Together.

kingderella

It's gorgeous but practically identical to Mugler Cologne. Don't see how you can justify the elevated price here.

MissButterfly

Tokyo Bloom, concrete jungle.

The dandelion note interested me the most as it is rarely put into scent compostions. And here it is on point; bitter nad grassy.
The notes are well blended: basil, a hint of sour blackcurrant, wet grass and cyclamen (as in Byredo La Tulipe, but much weaker). So far so good. Guaiac wood and amber make the perfect base for green and light fragrances, yet the drydown is quite unpleasant, like flowers that are being kept in the water way too long.

The opening of this fragrance is very promising and alive, sadly the second phase of it smells artificial.
I feel like the creators were on the right track to compose the perfect green scent, but dropped the idea in the halfway.

To sum up, the longevity is poor, after just 2 hours I can barely feel anything on my wrist.
The scent itself is definitely my piece of cake, but I miss the botanical twist and wilderness available to be captured in perfumes within this price range.

Alireza.D2

Why this gorgeous beautiful scent should have such a weak performance.
This is a real uplifting scent ,very fresh citrusy and floral specially dandelion.the only weakness is the performance , so don’t rush to buy it on first sniff , sample first.
Unless you love this scent do not bother yourself buying a FB as you might be disappointed .
by no means I judge the scent which is perfect however about performance I am not so sure. Its not satisfactory imho.

the performance is a littlebit weak but overall.. so worth it!
the scent is so soft yet unique. i never knew how dandelion smell like. now i know it and love it.

its just a comforting smell.
im the kind of person who could get headaches easily from perfumes. (i even get headaches from my fav perfumes too sometimes depending on my mood and health condition.. or when im hungry..)
BUT this scent. i will never get headaches no matter what. its that soft and well balanced.
some ppl said this scent is boring. but its not in my opinion.
once again its soft but very complex.
its pleasing.

MsFCAS

I occasionally see a review where someone is anosmic to a certain scent, and I could never imagine what that was like until this one. I can't tell if I'm just smelling my skin/imagining something or if there's really a scent there. You'd have to have a more refined nose than mine, and I'm really not one for big room-rocking scents!

CatBlanc

Nondescript watery citrus floral. Admittedly this genre of perfume triggers yawns and boredom for me.

By no means a bad perfume, and this type is always pleasant and non-offensive.

If you like Chanel Chance Tendre; Burberry Brit Sheer and D&G Light Blue type perfume, this is a safe niche offering to try.

SailorV

Tokyo Bloom really smells like dandelions and basil, so green and refreshing and a little uncommon. It has a nice powdery texture so it doesn't turn into an aggressively grassy scent or a screeching green floral, which I really appreciate.

This is not a complex fragrance, but nevertheless interesting. It's not quite my style, I was hoping for a Tokyo vibe which I just don't get here and usually prefer my green scents to be more fruity. But I like it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a soft green scent, regardless of gender. Even though I think it's more suitable for the warmer seasons it still smells nice on my colder skin right now (in November), so it doesn't need heat to unfold like some other summery freshies.

It might be a little overpriced for what it is, but that always depends on your personal taste and budget.

Armando Longdildo

A beautiful subtle fragrance, floral and citrus. Lovely in fact, i would love to smell of this throughout the spring/summer. Unfortunately really poor performance. Would need to wear half the bottle to be able to smell it after an hour. I won't be buying this.

A LOVE

I love this scent, it's so flowery, green and smooth, and definitely has a bloom-feel. It's harmless yes, but so nice, so I don't care. It takes me to the country side, to a cosy place with lots of flowers and other greenery. The amber, musk and wood only come out as distant undertones (the musk being most prominent).

* An intimate scent, stays close to the skin.
* Unisex - Green enough to be masculine, and not sweet really, but flowery enough to be feminine.
* Longevity is good on my skin, 6-8 hours.
* Not discontinued as of Oct. 2019 (TDC homepage).
* Possible to find it rather cheap: I found my 100 ml Oct. 2019 for €78,50 online (parfume-klik_dk).

If i have to spend nice money for a fragrance i pretend that it lasts at least 6 hours....this is nice but after 1 hour is gone. No way

chanka

I so wanted this
but wow 150 euro for 5 minutes of lemony basil splash
it is DG light blue with basil
very nice and refreshing but omg I think this ona makes a record in how fast niche expensive perfume can disappear
I know many that last 20 to 40 minutes but this goes away after spray
such a pitty it is so nice scent, I would even close eyes on that longevity if I would find bottle for 40 euro maximum
anyway I think it is not in sell anymore, probably they discontinued it because of that issue

toshiba

11:50 - open is meh. Green and dandelion, lots of musk. Smells like a trashy empty lot with sticky plants that leave burrs in socks with a generic (but admittedly not bad) musk.

Total blah, verging on headache

ANOTHER DAY

9:30 - Meh. Oh look, already tried this before. Well, still meh.

12 - Pretty much gone. Respraying to use up this sample and because while it isn't anything remarkable, it isn't the worst thing ever. This house has a lot of great offerings, but Tokyo Bloom isn't for me.

omid-am

It's wonderful fresh green and suitable for spring and summer .i love it from first spray.

I don’t understand how a fragrance inspired by the most amazing season in the most amazing city on earth, could be so dull.

Tokyo during the cherry blossom season is magical. The streets filled with the sweet smell of sakuramochi wafting in the air, the people so lively chatting with friends in their little parties, tourists eager to see parks filled with fluffy pink blossoms.
Yet, this perfume evokes none of that. I get the feeling of being in a grassy field in a sleepy suburban town.

The fragrance is not memorable. It’s a typical grassy scent. It’s not offensive, it’s a safe choice. The perfume pushes no boundaries.

GainsbourgFan

A very lovely, unique composition that smells strictly of dandelion, a fresh breeze and herbaceous fields...but doesn't last very long at all. Within minutes of putting it on (to be fair, I only have a non-spray sample from LuckyScent) it starts to fade. In my experience all dabbed fragrances don't last as long as a full on spray, but this one takes the cake in terms of fading quickly.

It does smell quite a lot like Mugler's Cologne, but less strong and astringent. The only shame is how quickly this fades, otherwise it'd be an easy favorite.

Airy, extra subtle, green floral fragrance, nice, but it left me indifferent. I could wear it and feel good about it, but with no love, passion, enchantment.

Megamind

I like a lot this scent notwithstanding it's week silage. It's a reasonably green, reasonably fresh and very natural fragrance. It's a basil I was looking for in Escada magnetism (I was so disappointed BTW). And dandelion is so amazing lasting from the first to the last minute of the scent live. Even if you never smelled dandelion before you know it is there from the first sniff. The fragrance is not sweet but nevertheless dandelion is delicious with the woods layer completing the last and final touch of this rounded fragrance. I do not notice jasmine and black current there maybe because I have the habitude such notes result in sweet outcome. I need to study to reconsider these notes again in Tokyo bloom comparing to standards already set in my brain by other mainstream all public accessible perfumes.
I find this scent on the first place comfortable and reassuring. It is good for wearing during warm weather. The lasting power in about 6-7 hours. It is a very good fragrance tending to feminine vibe. I classified it in my "love" category.

Arabian Knight

"Tokyo Bloom" perfectly encapsulates the delicate, dewy freshness of Spring. Crisp galbanum and minty basil impart a breath of clean morning air, carrying with it the hazy, pollen-tinged perfume of jasmine blossoms and dandelions. A faint blackcurrant note adds a tart, green, juicy sweetness, forming the depiction of a sunshine-soaked garden, with budding cherry trees waiting to burst into bloom.

It's a shame, however, that much like spring blossoms, the perfume is so transparent and fleeting it's hard to justify the price tag. 30 mins is all I get out of this. So while I would enjoy wearing "Tokyo Bloom", I probably wouldn't pay for it.

assemblyize

I wasn't sure if I would like this or not, since many green scents seem to synthetic and harsh for me. But I love this. I really think it's the dandelion that pulls this one through. It does have a spicy, smooth smell to me. I smell summer and the smell of a wonderful garden, not that of a city. So, I do agree with sherapop. I can see the rural Japan more clearly. It reminds me a bit of a garden area in Dazaifu (even though there were no dandelions present).

I find this to be a unique fragrance, and it was so hard to initially evaluate. It's one of my favorites that I've come across. I didn't have too big of an issue with longevity, but I can see where some would be disappointed. I got about 2 hours before I had to really focus to get the scent.

ChubbyPillow93

Sparkling and vernal...paradise in a bottle.
That is the highest appraisal I have ever given to a fragrance.

You cannot imagine how astonished was I when I see it was not citrus notes but dandelion on the pyramid. But later I found it definately not that simple. It is much more than a fragrance that similar to some citrus cologne. The dandelion note has a very soft and green aroma, but not in a way that grass or lily-of-the-valley or ivy has, it has a tiny bit of sweetness, somehow resembles bergamot or grapefruit.

However, the characteristic that interest me is the dandelion (or maybe sth else) has a very weak dryness, which is quite similar to the mastic/lentisk that Corsica Furiosa/Phaedon Lentisque have. This special dryness, combined with the green side of dandelion, make the whole fragrance absolutely perfect.BTW I guess I shall thank the basil and black currant too.

The only shortcoming is the longevity.Maybe just an hour.
Damn I don't f-ing care about this,TO HELL WITH THE LONGEVITY!

I've never tried a dandelion perfume before, and this certainly smells like dandelion. I'm still questioning if that's a good thing in a perfume (for my personal taste anyway). The reason I say this is because there's a tart tanginess in the opening that's a little like pee. It's not overwhelming and it does disappear, but it's a distinctly dandelion smell to me. Maybe that's just me.

This is unashamedly green. The opening is tart dandelion and a lovely hit of cyclamen - and I am a sucker for cyclamen (a note about that: on the sample card, it claims this contains 'cyclamen petals'. As far as I was aware, there's no such thing as a natural cyclamen scent and the note when it appears in perfumes is synthetic cyclamen aldehydes. So when they claim there are cyclamen petals in this, are there really, or is it just another load of marketing nonsense? If anyone knows the answer to that, I'd be really grateful for a PM).

Although the top, heart and base notes are listed both here and on the sample card, the basil appears on me as a heart note while the cyclamen is a top note.

The basil when it kicks in is very lovely. It brings a beautifully aromatic depth to the dandelion and the whole composition turns almost spicy. I really, really enjoy the perfume at this point, enough to consider a FB.

Again with this house, I get nothing in the way of base notes at all.

The only thing holding me back from a FB purchase is the longevity. It's only around 4 hours.

Fhaldara

This is fresh and green with a realistic dandelion - but it does not last even five minutes on my skin. As much as I like it, it's not worth the price of a FB because of the truly abysmal longevity.

bamapachyderm

I really wish there were a "meh" option rather than just "love," "like," and "dislike."
I actually do like the scent, but it lasts about 15 minutes before it completely disappears. This is true for me even after reapplying. I'm not exaggerating.

I'm writing this review because I'm very reluctantly marking it "dislike." The scent is nice, green, fresh, clean - but not spectacular enough to bother applying it all day. I don't usually wear "nice green fresh" scents, though, so you might like it better than I do - but I'm certain you can do better for less money. I'm sorry I can't say "you should try this instead" because I don't swim much in that part of the ocean of fragrance, but I'm happy to see what others recommend in its place.

EDIT: Changed it to "like" because I can use this sample I have to unsweeten certain white florals that need it - hopefully it works long enough to get past annoying opening blasts in other fragrances. :)

tanya.tang.397

The smell is non like others (in a good way, honestly), unfortunately longevity is very short. I'm not into reapplying perfume every half an hour so this bottle will be my first and my last.

beachdude

Are you wearing D&G Light Blue? that's what I ususally get.
NO! Thinking in my mind how brainwashed (or should I say nosewashed??) people are. Even if I say the name of the perfume they will only say: Oh, it smells really nice..!
Anyway, Tokyo Bloom is a fantastic scent for spring and summer, and probably it works wonders during the cold winter days when you need to find something that resemble the warm days.
It's a green fragrance, clean and fresh. At some point it may be on the feminine side but it stays almost on the unisex track.
I can smell more than anything else Dandelion, basil and musk. but the musk appears during the dry down.
I like it and I recommend it, probably it wouldn't turn your world upside down, but for sure it will make your day brighter!

siauseque

I am wondering just how much I need to apply of this to get a sense of what it is about. It smells wonderful and green in the bottle but nearly vanishes....until 5 hrs later and I smell what I think is dandelion. Still it would be hard to overdo this one. Intriguing but not interesting enough for me to consider for full size purchase.

jonasemerson

Green, fresh, spring fragrance.
Wonderful.

esteban747

So refreshing!
I can actually smell the Dandelion, but thanks to the other ingredients, the bitterness of this flower is toned down.
Is green at the opening, then more floral. I'm a guy, and I really wouldn't mind to wear this perfume. I know this is a unisex fragrance, but still I consider Tokyo bloom a little on the feminine side.
Truly fantastic. It's like a perfect day.
Update: I tested today at work, I applied the perfume around 1pm and is 10:25 pm and I can still smell it, close to my skin, but still impressive. 9.5 hours, not bad at all (I'm a guy, hairy arms, which is a plus since I discovered that hair increases the longevity of most fragrances, at least on me!).

AZ

This perfume smells is exactly the same smell as Creed Vievter. It smells green and fresh good for the summer.

sherapop

The Different Company TOKYO BLOOM is the first perfume I've smelled with a central dandelion note. Does anything in the world smell like dandelions but dandelions? No, I think not--though I may of course be mistaken. In any case, what I am perceiving as bright yellow dandelions are combined here with floral, green, and aquatic components along with a touch of wood to create a fragrance which lives up to this house's name, "Different", and conveys a sense of being outside in an untamed rural setting.

Initially, I really do smell the milky juice from the inside of just-pulled dandelions in this composition, which is an unexpected experience, I must say. Then the flowers become stronger, especially jasmine, but there is always a watery aspect which does remind me a bit of rural Japan, albeit not Tokyo. Overall, TOKYO BLOOM is a fresh, watery green floral yellow dandelion creation unique in my experience.

I suspect that some people may have difficulty surmounting our culture's anti-dandelion prejudice. People generally think of dandelions as weeds, not the basis of fine perfume.
