This fragrance is undeniably bold and oriental, best reserved for evening affairs where allure is key. It exudes confidence and sophistication. The saffron opening is delightful, transitioning gracefully to notes of rose and truffle before culminating in a warm blend of vanilla and oud. It's truly among the finest I've encountered, earning a solid 9 out of 10 from me.

CharlieSparta

I have a new bottle. A rose note on the top evolves into a chocolatey patchouli note that is delicious, yet clean. Last ok and turns into a close bubble/skin scent after a few hours. As a male, This rose/patchouli oud (I can't detect it) is the only rose scent I can tolerate. A masterpiece honestly.

2bClare

A jammy sweet rose resting on a bed of chocolatey gourmand deliciousness. It feels very rich and velvety at first spray, and the urge to keep smelling it is irresistible. The umami qualities of truffle/ chocolate give a luscious almost savory sort of counterpoint to the sweetness of the rose. The problem is that on my skin it disappears after an hour to two at the most. Given its high price point this is definitely very disappointing and keeps me from loving it. I just bought a bottle so I must have the newest formula, I’m not sure if an older version would have more longevity.

frag999

…this is one of the TF with a rich “oily” feel to it. Tobacco Vanilla also has that as well as, though slightly less, oud wood and soleil blanche

frag999

Just bought a new bottle and performance compared to my older bottle is day and night. 1 spray of the old one held all day.
Now the new one keeps 2hrs and gone at 2 sprays. .
As for the scent when I smell it on me it’s a fruity chocolate and patchouli and rose.
Smelled it on 2 orher men and hated it, smell of sweat and urine. Despite it on them. Maybe a territorial effect.

asimpleperfumelover

This smells like the roses and chocolate you give/receive on Valentine's Day combined with your lover's vanilla-oud scent, before you both get down to other certain activities.

civxrlys

this is my signature fragnance. opening is nice oily saffron with earthy notes and in the dry down rose, patchouli and truffle notes appear and you get hints of vanilla. This fragrance is luxurious,well-blended and sexy and it gets me compliments

malake

In love with the scent profile it's insane

VanHessen1234

This is what the Tom Ford hype is all about! Noir de Noir opens up with heavy, dark, earthy rose and settles into a sexy spice. Definitely interesting, long-lasting fragrance. Seductive, complex and very adult.

Mciccone

To me this definitely leans feminine especially in the opening. Someone said it reminded them of something they smelled on their grandma and I definitely get it lol. The opening is definitely mature and floral, but the dry down is quite nice and starts lean masculine as I get a combination of dark musky woods and rose. Armaf does have some great clones, but this is one I would buy the OG over the clone if you like the scent profile. Club de Nuit intense women may share some similarities with Noir de Noir, but IMO they are worlds apart. Unfortunately, as others have said, this doesn’t last long or project well on my skin. It becomes faint even as a skin scent after a few hours. I wouldn’t blind buy this as I could see it being polarizing to some, but It has definitely grown on me and I’m happy to have it in the collection.

I discovered Noir de Noir the same day I discovered the TF Private Blend line, back in 2007. A sales associate had me smell it, touting that it was a unisex rose, and I was immediately smitten by its dark burgundy velvet petal rose, conjuring up red wine and blood, thorns, dark, shadowy earth and chocolate-cake-patchouli sensuality. This was early on in my exploration of fragrances beyond just the one or two here and there to wear in heavy rotation. I was thrilled with all of these new discoveries, and was more than happy to use my credit card to have them in my possession. Noir de Noir made me feel like I was really treating myself to a luxury (my first knowledge of Serge Lutens, Frederic Malle, and Creed would be just around the corner).

It would be the scent I would often where while DJing, when I was younger, leaner, and always randy. "You smell so good" never felt so authentic as when heard from someone approaching me behind the booth to flirt. To be not quite 30 felt like I had so much ahead of me, and the attention seemed like it would never end. Over time, life happens, often in the form of detours—changing attitudes, changing health, grief and heartbreak. I would retire from DJing and discover the hobby of perfume-making by 2014, which started with exclusively natural perfumery. I'd convince myself that everything I had was too synthetic and not "artful" enough and would sell a whole lot from my collection, include the bottle of Noir de Noir I had at the time (forget about all the now long-discontinued Creeds that, regretfully, were just too easy for me to let go!).

Fast forward ten years, and I have long since embraced classic perfumery with its amalgam of natural and synthetic, reignited my love for fragrances tenfold, and now and then, I've sniffed Noir de Noir at the perfume counter to reignite those memories. It's another one that I've not been compelled to replenish as with many that were worn habitually in my past. I also heard and read time and again that it now lacks the depth that it had the first few years it was in production. It will always, however, be fondly remembered as one of the scents that bookended my salad days.

Insensitiv

This smells mature, but sexy and mysterious all together lol. The dry down is my favorite thing, just beautiful whiffs of this earthy rose with hints of vanilla. One of my favorites of all time and would recommend for sure.

angelbeast

The scent of a freshly-turned vampire clawing his way out of the grave. The dregs of his last mortal meal - red wine and dark, dark chocolate - are still on his breath, and damp soil smothers his cold skin. It's *so* bitter, and more than a little bit horrid...but fascinating, addicting. You can't stop sniffing your wrists. With time, the intense earthiness starts to relent, as vanilla and rose florals round and soften the scent. Evocative, gothic and challenging.

LiamGrant1

Tyreek "Woman Beatah Cheetah" Hill wears this.

DarthFragrance

I got a sample of this from Nordstrom about 3 years ago and I'm using it today. This is a really gorgeous oud rose fragrance. I love the earthy accords from the truffle and patchouli. There's a perfect amount of vanilla in the base to soften the edges. Despite the oakmoss being voted as one of the least prevalent notes, I pick it up easily. This smells expensive, sophisticated, classy and unique. This is back when Tom Ford Private Blends were on their A game, compared to the Vanilla Sex releases of today. I wish I had a full bottle of this. Performance is just moderate, I guess even the bottles from 3 years ago were quite watered down. It's a 2007 release so I'm sure it's endured a reformulation or 2 or 3.

fefefex

The opening is red wine breath, which for me is not a sexy scent and reminds me more of awkward family hugs and kisses on the cheek. The dry-down is more mellow, earthy, and sweet. Sultry. It is certainly dark, not black, but a deep burgundy velvet gown dragging across the garden floor. Maybe black roses, that deep, dark purple that counts as black in the phenotypes of flowers. The wine is still there sloshing around in the background while some sort of salacious, midnight rendezvous unfolds. This smell is about luxury and sex. Fit for a gothic queen. I think I will be layering this with others from my collection.

daffodilsandcoffee

It's one of my favorite fragrances in terms of the smell but the performance is lacking. That combo of rose and earthy notes sends my nostrils into a tizzy. Really the performance should be better for the price. Luckily I snagged this on an amazing deal, otherwise I would have had a hard time justifying it. It seems to be a problem across the brand, so while I'm tempted by others like Santal Blush, I will be a responsible frag head and direct my attention elsewhere.

GregDL

This scent is definitely beautiful. It's expensive, but it also smells expensive so I guess that's okay. It's dark and mysterious. I blind bought it, but only because I had a pretty good idea of the fact that I was going to like it - but I do feel like it's a very particular kind of scent, so I would not recommend blind buying it.

My issue with it, is that I feel like it's not long lasting enough for the price, and the projection is rather moderate. Which, for this price category, you'd definitely expect a beast mode perfume.

Noir De Noir by Tom Ford

I finally purchased this having an idea what it would smell like and I was lucky enough to find a big discount on it

I do not like vanilla note and this one had it along with the beautiful rose however it is done in a luxurious sensual way.

The perfume leans towards darkish scent and though the projection isn't's loud you still live in your own little cloud.

I'm grateful to have this in my collection.

Sample first.

meadowcorolla

I hated this so much when I first got it. Reminded me of something I smelled on my grandmother, not that it smelled bad it was just too mature of a scent, definitely did not get the sex in a bottle vibe that everyone's describing. It was a blind buy and that doesn't always work out, it's also my first TF fragrance so I really wasn't sure what to expect. I just abandoned it until fall came around, it was then that I could actually appreciate it. Still smells very mature, not completely in love with it but there's definitely something special about it

StringerSmell

Dark chocolate and rose. Very good but a tad overrated? Not as complex as other TF scents. Not as complex as other reviews would have you believe.

JmThms

Another near-masterpiece Tom Ford creation, using a common house accord - earthy, chocolate-y patchouli and truffle. The brand used a truffle note in the 2007 Tom Ford for Men Extreme, and of course Black Orchid. I have bottles of both, and both are outstanding. It's hard to beat Tom Ford for Men Extreme, but Noir de Noir may just do that. This is simply outstanding. This is unisex, but just like with Dark Orchid, if it leans either way its slightly towards the masculine. This is not your everyday rose scent. A dark, sultry, earthy rose. "A gorgeous masculine rose" someone below wrote, and that's what it is. "Goth", "vampire" are descriptors given both this and Dark Orchid. But it doesn't remind me of a "Bulgarian grandma funeral" or "straight up dirt", lol, but I can understand why someone would make those associations. Noir de Noir is a masterpiece.

Nesne

This is sex in a bottle. It smells absolutely amazing. Sultry deep and dark with femininity. Amazing! To me this is the ultimate girlboss perfume

Skank

I get a body odor hit when I get to mid notes, maybe the truffle or patchouli looking at these notes?? But it's somehow really ethereal and elegant with the florals, like sweaty skin of a nymph or something. Then it dries down more to earthy freshness. Love it!

dvinshultz

Maybe I received the wrong sample, but on my skin, it smells a lot like Le Labo Rose 31. I can't say I particularly love it, I'm not getting any of the truffle or sweet notes, just a dry, dark, earthy rose. That being said, it's just okay.

ionut_4293

Dark chocolate, patchouli, rose, rose wine. Dark, mysterious, alluring, intimidating. A masterpiece. Sadly, it’s not for me. When smelling this, all I can imagine is a goth person, a vampire or something in that area.

@ShaunMichael

Saying "This could easily be a creed fragrance" is an insult to this masterpiece. This beauty is far beyond Creed house.

Noir de Noir is a piece of art, one of the best ever creations of TF.

ShaunMichael

It’s pretty incredible. A gorgeous masculine rose….(some men won’t like rose) but it’s the most masculine/unisex rose that I’ve found. This could easily be a creed fragrance

Afc_Croatian

When I was a teenager I worked at a grocery store with an older gentleman who had a vintage fragrance collection. He insisted that I should have nice fragrances for when I go out on dates etc. since I am around people often as well.

He would gift me some of his vintage bottles; Prada Infusion, Azzaro Chrome, and one day he gave me a sample vial of Tom Ford's Noir de noir. Being so inexperienced with fragrances I was blown away, couldn't even name a single note in it but I loved it regardless.

Years later I still love it, maybe it's nostalgia but to me it's one of the best rose notes in a designer fragrance. I love the vanilla & subtle oud dry down which just exudes elegance to me. This is what I imagine a rich old lady wears yet I still love wearing it myself.

I went through my 10ml vial fairly quick, & would love to buy another bottle some day but wow that pricing even on discounters is pretty wild.

If you want a fantastic clone to it, I highly recommend Club De Nuit Intense Woman. I wear that like it's Tom Ford, longevity is great and when I smelt it I was immediately reminded of those old times at my part-time job. (And like $20-30!)

9/10 for me

Neket

To my nose this has the same vibe as Guelain Shalimar. I get a powdery, woody slightly sweet scent. Sits close to the skin and gives a very cosy feeling. It has some sharpness to it as well, maybe from the floral. An hour after spraying I get a very distinct chocolate scent. Not exactly my cup of tea but a over all pleasant scent.

Dolce Gabbana Enthusiast

Dark musky rose that is paired with chocolate undertones and there's also patchouli in this. The patchouli is noticeable but not super prominent or at least on my skin. I also get hints of wine from this. In the drydown you get like a soft chocolate milk kinda vibe, like the milk left after you've finished eating Cocoa puffs.

Ultimate Gothic Beauty 🖤🌹🖤

If you are looking for a deep dark bewitching rose then look no further.

Still my No:1 after all those years.

Very bold, heavy and dark as hell 🤘
Masterful creation.

I just don't have enough words to express how lovely this is. This reminds me of something very special; an Indian dessert called Kulfi, which has been very popular culturally in India since centuries and I've always loved it. The moment I smelled it for the first time I was like whoaaaa this is some high end Kulfi with the finest ingredients, and also made so sophisticated so sexy, I'm just falling short of words to explain how good it is. It's perfectly milky, sweet, TASTY and so nostalgic. Honestly feels so comfortable. And trust me ladies love this, in fact everyone's gonna appreciate it a lot. Even though this fragrance in general should rather be dressed up in a suit and mainly meant for older men who want to make a statement, I still put a spray or two every night before bed, it's just so sexy. The only issue is it's performance, but it's not as bad as Oud Wood(adorable scent but a cheap Axe body spray performs better), so just overspray it and you'll be perfect.

ceruleankais

Noir de Noir is a deep, heavy scent that pulls rosy on me. I tend to exclusively wear this in the winter months due to its warmth, but it is a masterfully created perfume. The only issue I have with it is the price point- there are dupes that I have mistaken for it that are a fraction of the price. My suggestion is to buy this if you're able and willing to drop upwards of £200 on it.

CrissyCK

I typically like masculine scents, but sometimes it comes across too masculine for me (in a good way, not in a musty aftershave kind of a way). I only wear on the coldest days. It's a very well-blended, smooth scent. Very strong and lasting.

Deliza1997

Very sexy and intoxicating scent. In the opening I get fresh roses and saffron but the dry down it is dark, heavy, woody, chocolatey rose with patchouli. It is very different from my other rose heavy fragrances, it is bold, sexy and sophisticated at the same time. Performance is stellar, lasts for more than 12+ hours easily and projects for good 5 hours. It's a safe blind buy for anyone looking for a dark fragrance.

dianupants128

I just recently bought a bottle of this, so this review will be for Noir de Noir in its current iteration. I'm not the biggest fan of dark, jammy rose scents and I think I actually hate oud, so I'm not really sure what possessed me to blind buy this. That said, I don't dislike this as much as I should, judging by the notes alone, but it's not a love either. The opening is the most challenging part for me, as I get the rose (which feels damp, like the petals have been trampled) and something skanky (also damp, I think it must be the truffle or the oud or the combo of both), like downright stinky. The skankiness dies down after about 15-30 minutes and after that it's a semi-powdery-feeling rose with vanilla and patchouli. I do like the drydown but it becomes so weak so quickly, it's a skin scent after 2 hours. The combination of this having less than stellar longevity and the scent profile not being unique makes me think it's not worth the retail price of $200+.

I think a previous reviewer said that the patchouli in this smelled like straight up soil to them, and I wish that was the case for me, because I actually like the smell of dirt lol.

Mando

One of the most boring scents from the past 20 years. I hate to say I bought a decanter of it back in the late 2000s, that I still own with 1/4 of it left. I wished I had bought one of the more adventurous ones like Moss Breches or Purple Patchouli cause those were more interesting than this one. I remember someone telling me on Perfume of Life(?) forum or somewhere that this one was their most favorite of the newly minted line at the time. I wished I had not listened to them. I never touch the stuff any longer. It just sits and gathers dust now. Maybe one day I'll smell it again but honestly, no desire to since it's such an unoriginal scent to me. It's really boring. Oh well, that's how I feel. I dislike me dissing this scent but it is what it is.

FreshLiving

This is a quality fragrance. But it’s definitely for females.
Very dark, heavy, beautifully rounded, velvety chocolate truffle. It’s what the scent would be for a sexy Valentine’s Day date on a woman.
Its bombastic projection and longevity make a statement. Less is certainly more as the fragrance should pull you in. But I could see some overpaying and creating a repellent.

10/10 for a woman

On a man it just wouldn’t fit right

NOIR SLEEPING BEAUTY

Noir perfumes exude sophistication and seduction. The colour black symbolizes mystery and mysticism. It absorbs all spectral colours and leaves no room for light. It's the ultimate colour for a classic sleeping beauty.
Black perfumes have a mysterious nature, awakening our senses and increasing the anticipation of what's to come. Noir de Noir is an inky black night of darkness. We know the night is made for fun, and so does this scent. It has the power to take you to the dark side. Once you feel its seductive darkness and the veil of mystery, you can never go back. For me, this is one of Tom Ford's best fragrances. I use it a lot and consider this perfume unisex.
"Noir de Noir by Tom Ford is a very well-blended floral and spicy oriental fragrance ... and quite black. I still don't know whether to call it a dark or semi-dark scent. It can be semi-dark because it gives you some faint colours when showcasing its subtle floral tones. But it is also pitch dark when it fills you with its sombre black tones. This blackness completely outlines this perfume and its evolution. It just seems perfect the way it is.
The perfume opening is very smooth like someone slowly approaching with slippers on. Soft and intimate saffron begins this fragrance journey, a bit leathery and bittersweet. This note persists for a while, but the fragrance development surprises us with a powerful, dark, and enduring rose that lasts for almost the entire life of the fragrance. The rose note gives you nuances of powderiness and gloomy woods. It's a dark, dirty, and woody special rose... a wonderful rose! I am not a big fan of rose scents, but I really like this composition. Presumably, due to the heart truffle note, the dark rose scent is underlined with musky, earthy, and sharp accords.
The base sets a peaceful oud frame with earthy patchouli and slightly sweet vanilla, while the dark, sombre rose lingers for quite a while. The agarwood note is not all that noticeable and plays a background role in the shadowy development of the fragrance. Over time, the dry-down becomes sweeter and more powdery.
"Noir de Noir" gives a strong impression of class and sophistication. It has above-average longevity, but only average projection. It's probably correct for this upscale fragrance. Excessive projection could be distracting or even annoying.
I have a weak heart for these types of obscure scents and find them very alluring. However, the world is not perfect and not everyone likes this scent. It probably has as many haters as it has lovers. Many people reject the subtly overlapping shadow that is present in all phases of this fragrance. After all, "cést un parfum noir de noir" (it is a black made of black perfume).
The only concern is the price! I can only call it quite expensive if there is a very well-mixed similar fragrance. It's "Club de Nuit Intense Woman" by Armaf and it costs 15% of the Noir de Noir price.
Let's make my "Noir de Noir" opinion clear with ratings:
___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
Opening: 10.0 (saffron and black rose; amazing)

Presentation: 8.0 (the traditional Tom Ford Private Line bottle)

Overall grade: 8.59 / 10.00

My opinion: A bottle filled with charm and seduction, pleasing both genders.
Don't buy it blindly. It's too expensive so give it a try first.

Opulent, brooding, dark, and made for formal or intimate occasions, for the boldest of wearers. This fragrance does not care about gender. Nuclear performance by the way.

EvaNicoleFragrance

Opens with a rich saffron, followed immediately by dank and moldy truffle, then after a few minutes it settles into a beautiful honeyed patchouli floral blend. Then it completely disappears.

I’ll stick with Armaf Club De Nuit Intense Woman.

prancingponytail

There is this abandoned crypt in Kirkton, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland called "The Mount". This perfume gives the exact same vibes with it, and I mean this as a compliment. It's gothic, lush green, dark but peaceful, airy but earthy at the same time. I really don't like oud in fragrances but here it's perfectly enveloped in rose and moss -this is what happens when three amazing noses compose a fragrance.

An instant love.

Yalcin05

Dark sexy and seductive.. thats what i would call this fragrance. The first spray was mindblowing.. a earthy gourmand!!! But quick after that the patch and amber kicks in heavily and it goes straight to a familiar territory..

It reminds me of ombre nomade but bit more airy, weaker and earty. Not saying its a copy because its not.. there are definitely some different nuances. This is more gourmand that is way more oude compared to this.. but more like its a familiar profile. Oriental gourmand.

It makes me dream about arabian nights, a beautiful princess and her palace.. the room is colored in beaultful dark and goldish colours.. fruits lying on the table, incense burning in the room, open balcony with a beautiful moon shining in to the room.. thats the thing i think of. So again its seductive and sexy.. definitely a date night fragrance.

Tom Ford nails it again by making scents seductive, doesnt matter which perfume but it always has that sexy DNA in the formula. Not sure if this is reformulated as well.. but i have a 2018 batch.

Performance like i mentioned is not so great, at least not in de projecting .. it still lasts 6 hours at least during winters.

8/10 for me ... i really like the DNA of this perfume but the performance lets this down and make me grave more for the ombre nomade, altough that one is extremely masculine, and this is for anyone who wants to feel sexy and sophisticated

And another point it starts beautiful chocolaty and patchouli amber vibe kicks in.. and I hoped the patch would stay a bit more, but it turns into a more rose perfume with some thin nuances of the chocolaty vibe. It's beautiful don't get me wrong but I hoped the mid with the patch could stay longer then 10 min.

AbsoluteFolia

Dark, unapologetic and sensual velvet. This is what I imagine Mads Mikkelsen as Dr. Hannibal Lecter would smell. Really like but I don't think I can pull it off. This is how I would like my man to smell.

Smeraldina77

Surely a very high quality fragrance. The combination of rose and oud is enriched with an earthy - chocolatey facet by the truffle (mushroom) and patchouly combination, at least this is to my nose. I have to admit it is not super original and you can probably find something similar, but less expensive, but anyhow I love it. I bought it recently since I found it with a heavy discount, but I wouldn't have paid it full price, beacause is frankly quite outrageous in my opinion. If you like rose oud fragrances this is probably one of the best. Quite unisex, most suitable in cold weather, not necessarily only for evening occasions. I reccomend it, but only for a discounted price.

jamal8800

Dark, heavy and bold, absolutely gorgeous scent, this smells like a rich man. Might be my favorite fall/winter scent, just got a bottle and plan on using it a lot for this winter. 10/10

EDIT: Have had this for about a month now, I have to say I'm very dissapointed with the performance of this fragrance, it projects heavy for about 2 hours and then just becomes a skin scent, only lasts about 5-6 hours on my skin. This is not bad but for the price I paid, it is really not worth it. Don't know if I would rebuy this in the future sadly, but the smell of this is still a masterpiece.

TBonetheFella

This weekend was cloudy and a bit dreary, with spotty rain showers. The bar you’re at is the exact opposite, warm and inviting as the sounds of fellow bar goers laugh and talk around you. As you leave your friends to grab another drink at the bar, you make eye contact with a particularly handsome or pretty stranger. This stranger is dressed in a black sweater and khakis, and their hair and possibly makeup are done perfectly. They look at you from across the bar with a smirk, the look of a hunter in their eyes. As they head over you feel your heart skip a beat on its own. Your thoughts race as this attractive stranger walks towards you, “What do I say? What can I say?” This feeling of excitement and nervousness building as the bartender finally snaps you out of your head by giving you your drink. The stranger finally makes their way to you, sitting gracefully into the seat across. They smell almost of the storm around you as you begin a game of cat and mouse. The stranger flirts well, but has a danger to them as well. Your intrigue is almost out of a sappy romance novel, and you’re hooked.

This is a bold, powerful, and compelling fragrance. A picturesque damp and cold rose and patchouli, juxtaposed with warm and dark oud with help from vanilla. The rose is the focal point, yet never becoming stereotypically feminine. It’s like a rose caught within a thunderstorm. As this dries, the rose becomes surrounded more and more by the warmth, but never truly losing that dew like feeling it started with; the patchouli instead comes to back it up. The patchouli is very green and smells like actual patchouli, not thick and cake-y. It’s dry down is linear after this point, becoming warmer and warmer as it dries.

This is a fragrance I would wear on a cloudy day when I want to make a statement. This is somewhat safe, not as safe as “Tobacco Vanille” by Tom Ford, so it takes a bit of confidence to wear it and not have it wear you. I promise you though, if you wear this with confidence and dressed appropriately; you will be the handsome or pretty stranger.

Perfectly unisex.

Solid projection and performance; easy on the trigger though if you’re in warmer or enclosed spaces.

Fall through Spring. Can be worn day or night for fall and winter, spring it leans night. Wear this on a cloudy day.

monamushroom

This is warm, comforting but also loud and seducing. I get a deep, dark rose and something sultry and sensual. It is heavy, yes, but in a way that makes you feel like some sort of femme fatale out in the dark autumn night. I feel so confident wearing this, and the patchouli-blend in the background gives this a touch of something mystical and secret. Like you know something no one else knows.

This is like being wrapped inside a deep dark, green forest, lying on a bed of moss whilst dark roses blossom around you. After the initial notes has dried down you get a sweetness, and the perfume feels lighter even though it has evolved into something more velvet-y.

This is a masterpiece! And I don’t think I could ever be without this in my collection even though it is just for those special occasions. Though, I didn’t really like it at first, but I guess it takes a bit of maturing.

Capibaro

CONCLUSION
A rose centered scent with dark and spicy qualities to it. It also has some aquatic airynes to it. Longevity and projection is ok, but depends on context.

HOW DID I ENCOUNTER
Through watching perfume reviews on Youtube. Smelled it first in Harrods, but that was hard as the whole area was dense with fragrances. This harks back to the first scent I loved in my teens.

WHAT DO I SMELL
To me the notes are impossible to decipher, yet I smell a lot. Central to me is rose. It smells dark and rich. I smell earthiness and also sweetness (be it cacao or truffel, not really getting that clearly). What set's it apart is the watery like lightness to it. It is a less dark, more airy scent compared to Egoïste by Chanel.

WEARING
Pretty versatile. It is a luxurious scent, so probably not festival material. It works for fall to spring and even cooler summer nights. It has a sens-of-occasion.

DESIGN & QUALITY
The private blend bottles for Tom Ford are a thing of beauty. The atomizers are ok, but not Rolls Royce quality like Chanel.

POWER
I would say this is middle of the road. Fine longevity, fine projection. But definitely not a monster.

VALUE
For creativity this deserves praise. For the price I expect more performance. Not on the projection-side (this is a sophisticated house), but I want it to project (little) for way longer

Ecliphia

A dense sinking, the soft scent of black roses, the taste swallowed down. Infinitely close to black brown, but not completely black. Soft-covered earth on a coffin, slightly intoxicated chocolate, caresses after the lights go out, deep and sweet. This scent expands in large clusters and makes people want to inhale deeply before bedtime.

As if seeing some childhood memories of white people in the ruby of old times. Last night, I mistakenly took it as "Pardon" because of its deep, dark, slightly outdated, like mother’s knees.

Trygvemann

DO NOT buy a big bottle unless you want to use this very often. I've had mine for exactly 4 years and it already smells rotten. Just compared this bottle with a new one and the difference is ridiculous. I'm really pissed about it since I love the scent but it expired way too quick for being this expensive. Seriously dissappointed to say the least.

OHLAWDTOMFAWD

I get mainly Rose, vanilla and Patchouli. There is a touch of the truffle coming through as well. I think this is a very well balanced, perfectly unisex scent. Probably better suited for fall, but a couple sprays on a summer night wont hurt you. Really enjoy it.

Lauren_Trouble

Gorgeous dark & earthy rose/patchouli/vanilla scent!

petroleuse

I absolutely love this scent. It is the perfect heavy yet complex patchouli/rose scent. A true favorite for me.

LeSmeller

This is an interesting scent, definitely unisex, similar to Chanel Egoiste, but without tobacco. The most prominent notes are patchouli and rose, underscored by thick sweetness. There's also some bitterness. The vibe is full but fresh and electric, hedonistic would be a good word. Think Roman aristocracy indulging in excesses.

galyagal

It’s captivating, dark, smooth, sexy and mysterious! Everything that I love! :) A bit too much musk.
To me it sits between Stella from Stella McCartney and NR For Her. Velvety dark rose, warm and sensual.
Yummy!

ali_minaj

Smells expensive ! But you can ONLY wear it at Nights in my opinion. Could be good at Dates

dan99

This is the most tom ford fragrance in their lineup and it is an absolute masterpiece. Its dark, seductive, & so so sexy from the chocolate truffles mix with rose and vanilla in the background that make this just so yummy.

afternuun

i like it but i dont love it. it's definitely a pleasant fragrance but it's too warm for my taste. the rose vanilla is strong on my skin

Whateverwhocares

I get a dark cinnamon vibe. Saffron overtone. Rose undertone. Great stuff.

AnnaMagenta

Definitely is the queen of the dark rose perfume genre. The beginning is a bit strong and mature for me and maybe the same for those who are around you. And reminded me a lot of the Radical Rose and Rose d’Arabie. But the middle notes of earthy wet roses are so delicious and fresh and I changed my opinion. I don’t mind the woody dry-down either. In fact, I think the wood here is in harmony with the rose what still challenging for other known dupes.

Batman10

A Dark Romantic Rosy scent, I like it, wish it would last longer tho and project

banillamood

Peaky Blinders anyone? Adore this scent profile.

What a beautiful masterpiece this is everyone. I purchased the bigger size (3.4oz) yesterday at Nordstrom's. It was $361 as there is currently a 15% Tom Ford Fragrance sale going on. All Tom Ford fragrances are 15% off, all sizes.

This is the most beautiful, dark rose, earthy patchouli, vanilla classy scent I've put my nose to in a long time. There's almost a nice tea or wine sort of thing happening in the background of the aforementioned notes as well. Very sexy. Totally unisex in my opinion, but as a man, and off my skin, this is just class, class, class all the way. I don't smell the chocolate that everyone raves about in the top, mid, or base, but besides that, it truly is spot on to what everyone says about it in the fragrance community.

An absolute masterpiece...…!

sweetpygmalion

I have tried it a few times and I'm in love with the smell but the longevity :( it lasts maybe 2 hours max on me before becoming so faint id have to stick my nose to my wrist to smell anything.
But it is gorgeous for those couple hours I can actually smell it...

puri27

This has an incredibly delightful fragrance, and I’m pleasantly surprised! It’s suitable for all seasons. In a good way, it’s distinctive and can captivate people from all walks of life. I get so many compliments from everyone that it makes me blush. It was a great purchase!

Alcohol sniffer

Gawddamn is this scent good, if y'all never tried it your are missing out. warning that the tester strip won't do you justice ask for it to be sprayed on skin. this was an immediate cop after the first sniff (last year) and till this day there is no regret for buying it even with the overpriced price tag of TF. This an inoffensive scent that can be used both day and night and is not over cloyingly sweet or nothing. Projection is decent manage to last me a whole day without reapplying but a very sexy and almost vanillic skin scent by then. Huge love to this perfume. Still recommend this even during summer u can pull it off in summer evenings trust!!! If you can't cop it just yet (expensive AF) go smell and sample it for sure man it smells incredible to me. As a beginner in fragrances ill say the notes are relatively easy to understand I just pick up on the rose and vanilla its definitely floral but sexy in a unisex way I am a man and still rock this. Imma leave with this genuine note for the lads: If I ever have just 1 perfume this will be it man. I have receive real compliments for this fragrances too (if you looking for something that may impress people this will be it).

I keep trying, but I can’t find a better Rose and Patchouli fragrance. This is it, the best I’ve found, perfectly wearable, so decandent, a luxurious experience. If you like rose and patchouli, you need this. If you don’t like roses and patchouli, try it anyway.

PS - I’ve owned an early formation bottle and now I’m on to a new bottle, longevity and projection are huge on me, lasting 12+ hours.

kperfume

Lasted for about 2h. Opening was the best thing for 30ish minutes and then just vanilla and something else that didn't matter. REALLY surprised by the great reviews on this perfume.

PrincipeFilip

This is the only Olivier Cresps fragrance that i really like since i am not a fan of his creations but this fragrance has been inspirations to many following later. Prada amber intense, TF noir, ADP Mirra… spicy earth patchouli rose in the opening, settling down to amber and oakmoss with small amount of oud. Perfectly unisex. Performance is average like the majority of TF private blend offerings

solliyafragnance

A Dark beautiful perfume, at first I didn't like it because the saffron was too much for me, BUT then you sense how luxurious it is and it grows on you.
this is the best TOM FORD perfume, and one of the best rosy perfumes.

@Bonjour Mademoiselle 🤣🤣🤣 wtf?! You used to bum your gf while wearing this and you ALL smelled of dark roses, not both, all of you. Who else was there like? Probably the maddest review of a perfume I've ever seen on here but it made me laugh.

Cartimandua84

I wish the other notes came out on my skin, but it leans so far into the patchouli and truffle that I smell like straight up soil.

Manny44

Hadn't smelled this in ten years but just smelled it on a woman going to a wedding party and it smelled divine. Tom Ford in 2007 the greatest year for any perfumer or even brand ever?

RottigrlNYC

I love this one so much that I bought a back up bottle. Never want to be without it. Such a beautiful sensual perfume. I’m wearing it right now, in bed, just because.

wolfinsuit

I think I'm in love.

Retro_Futurista

Imagine if you will Dracula himself invited you to his castle for dinner and laid out before you is decadent dark chocolate deserts, glasses of wine and roses scattered across the table. Would you stay with him eternally? Or would you escape the castle and run for your life through the damp and decaying forest, deep in an autumnal fog?
That is where I go when I smell this fragrance

takema

I thought I was going to love Noir de Noir. I bought the Armaf clone (Club de Nuit Intense Woman), years before I tried Noir de Noir. I really enjoy the Armaf version and was sure once I tried the original I would fall in love...I haven't. I love how it smells from the cap, the rose and patchouli are balanced and compliment one another. Unfortunately, my skin amplifies the patchouli and it gets much more earthy and more masculine than I prefer to wear. I really want the lush, dark rose to tame the dirty patchouli just a bit. Instead the rose gets drowned out. The opening is dominated by that patchouli and some rose with the earthy notes dominating the mid. In the deep drydown the earthiness settles and there is a soft powdery vanilla that I don't notice earlier in the wear. The deep drydown is very pretty, but it's also pretty soft and a bit generic.

Noir de Noir is dark, sexy and mysterious. I find it most suitable as a cooler weather, night out fragrance. Really high heat brings out the worst aspects of this fragrance. It gets sticky, dirty, heavy and musty. I find it much more enjoyable in cold to mild weather. This is a very unisex fragrance, especially on paper. But skin chemistry may really change this. I find my skin really brings out the masculine aspects of this scent.

I'm surprised the performance isn't better. It's not terrible, but I expected better for this type of fragrance. Rose/patchouli and rose/oud fragrances tend to last forever, but this one just had moderate performance. It lasts 6 hours on my skin, maybe a little bit longer, but very subtle after that. The projection is quite strong for 2-3 hours then is moderate until the six hour mark. After the six hours it is a very soft skin scent for a couple hours. I found a heavier application didn't help the performance, it just amplified the projection for those first couple hours with no improvement in longevity.

The pricing of the Tom Ford private line is pretty high and I can't justify it for this fragrance. Even at a good discount I can't justify the cost with how this one performs on my skin. I am very happy I bought a sample of Noir de Noir before I purchased it. I really thought I was going to love it, so I would have been very disappointed.

Bonjour Mademoiselle

I used to do anal to my girlfriend with this scent, we all smelled like dark roses and we loved it. Now time passed and i dont know what to think about this scent and what to think about my past

Mdk

Hmmm, yummy rose milk chocolate scent.
and sweet red wine.
I was expecting a more mature, sensual, complex and decadent scent from this perfume because of the name and advertising for this perfume.
However, the impression I got from this perfume was that of a young girl who has grown up a little and is trying her hand at a sweet alcoholic beverage.
I think the chocolate scent is well done, and the feeling of crossing chocolate and roses is also interesting.
I feel that it is a daily scent that is easily accepted by the general public.

I don't hate this scent at all, I rather like it. I want to wear this as a chocolate scent.
But I wanted to smell the dangerous, sensual, black scent that this perfume advertises.

iszzieanna

A dark, earthy-patchouli filled rose. This is beautiful. It’s alluring and sensual. Not something I see myself wearing but the dark rose is so pretty. I like how this isn’t a sweetened rose.

xillage

Noir de Noir falls in the similar zone of LV Ombre Nomade. The flowery incense woody opening, which dries down to powdery spicy rose oud. While this one is more earthy, and has a sweet spicy tobacco mixed with betel nut facet, which makes it unique.

8.5/10

travlernils

I love it!

Enrium

Noir de Noir is such an unusual rose scent, despite the provenance of fairly typical complementary notes, patchouli, spice and oud. Aptly named, this scent is dark and earthy, initially somewhat provocative and polarising, but settles into a cohesive, elegant-yet-edgy rose-oud-patchouli scent with several points of interest.

NDN opens with a liberal dose of earthy, dirty patchouli, more balsamic than dry, joined quickly by the mushroom-like, earthy truffle note that brings to mind Black Orchid. Saffron adds some spice as it develops, paving the way to the dark spicy-rose at the heart of this scent.

A dark, woody oud emerges as it dries down, dry rather than skanky or animalic, tying everything together nicely. It complements the rose, and balances out the "dirty" opening nicely. Vanilla emerges, adding dry but smooth sweetness to the base, again tempering the dirtiness and adding to the balsamic base. It becomes mossy in its late stages, fading to a mossy, musky skin scent. Sillage is moderate and longevity is long-lasting.

A rich, luxurious scent, best worn in autumn/winter, NDN is unisex, unusual and really quite captivating. 4/5.

Seanmesser666

THIS IS MY FAVORITE ROSE EVER. The truffle adds a lot to the rose note. Not that earthy (fortunately)

jessica_chinos

This scent is so dark and mysterious... I love the chocolatey aroma, it's like tasting red wine with dark chocolate covered strawberries, yum! Smells so elegant and seductive, totally adequate for a boss woman. Remember the woman villain on Revenge TV series? Totally Victoria Grayson's signature scent, in my opinion. Or even, Anna Wintour's evening perfume. Totally high fashion and elegant.

If a scent like this could've existed centuries ago, on the fantasy land of House of the Dragon, this would be Alicent Hightower's signature scent as a Queen.

I have a wedding on a vineyard, I'm totally rocking this in an elegant long dress.

This is the most stunning thing I've smelt ....... in my life. Truly unisex and night time special occasions ONLY. A man could maybe get away with a LIGHT spray on top of something fresh during the day. This is oscar perfume. I could never pull it off in the office or even out for dinner. This is twice a year perfume. Paired with one spray of Baccarat rouge or a BR540 dupe and it would be breathtaking.

AP Riyadh

Beautiful Rose + Oud combo with prominence to a sweet and jammy rose.

The start reminds me of LV Les Sables Roses but while Les Sables stays true to the Rose throughout, this one evolves to a more vanilla and softer dry down with hints of patchouli and oak moss providing the mysterious back drop. I do enjoy this.

Nothing very original, but for darker and sweeter rose lovers with a bias towards rose combos this should not disappoint.

Good projection and above average performance.

A confident gentleman can also pull this off even though it is feminine leaning especially on dry down. Enjoy!

Crakeling

I wish I had the vibes to have this as my signature fragrance. I have never smelled anything that comes close to how much I love this. It smells like a good Bourgogne tastes. Am I getting Nebbiolo hints as well? Noir de Noir is complex and classy. My brain can't comprehend how awesome the dry down is. 10/10

Vellocet

If you’re prone to headaches induced by heavy perfumes then watch out for this one. I’m not that sensitive usually but when I smelled this my eyes almost rolled back in my head. It is way too much of everything, but especially the combination of rose, oakmoss and patchouli. The tartness from the rose and the earthy notes from the moss and patchouli makes this vile to me. It’s incredibly heavy and potent. It fills up an entire room and you can’t really escape it. So.. a plus for projection I guess?

KinFolkandLore

It’s the wee-hours and you just stumbled across the elegant lady who lives in the PH. She is drop dead gorgeous and exudes a grounded, inviting aura. Her presence is captivating and alluring, leaving those around her spellbound. Being in her company, even if it's only a moment in the elevator, makes you wonder how she manages to captivate you so effortlessly. When she smiles, you get a glimpse of hope, making you believe that anything is possible. However, you know that she is way beyond your reach because you're just the doorman. When she steps into the elevator and the doors slowly shut, you snap out of it. All you are left with her scent trail. Standing there you ask yourself, was it all just a dream?

TF Noir de Noir is that girl. An enigma.

felised

Saffron bomb opening that evolves into a beautiful earthy rose-oud (not the challenging, fecal kind of oud) that also kind of smells like a combination of red wine and dark chocolate. There is no sweetness here, it's intense and intoxicating. Very sensual fragrance indeed. Noir de Noir is the smell of sinful nights in the best way possible.

I love it and wear it as a woman but it's completely unisex and I would find this very sexy on a man. It creates an alluring and mysterious aura around the person wearing it, and I think it's definitely a head-turner. Leaves a gorgeous scent trail behind you while it lasts, which is unfortunately about 2-3 hours. Would be a 10/10 if not for the abysmal performance. Lasts a while longer on clothing, but I prefer the way it smells on skin.

Freehead

This fragrance opened up a new world for me, i love it so much. On clothes it is really nice, but on skin it is where it shines. It is so warm and radiant, and brings back childhood memories of coziness and comfort. In the opening there is a very smooth rose and floral note, with a nice dark vanilla in the background. As it drys down the vanilla gets more and more dominant as the rose very slowly fades away, and a radiant smell that i can only describe as warm and cozy surrounds me. This is a true masterpiece. I never thought as a guy i can like a rose scent, let alone love it. Definitely worth at least a try!

Gourmandgurl888

This is, was and always will be in my top 10 for life!! If you want a TRUE unisex AND sexy fragrance this is it!! I have it and love it especially in autumn days and it would be a banger on date nights 😍. I always envision a man with a silky shirt being slowly unbuttoned, or a woman with a long silk, lace dress that just sits and hugs every curve just perfectly. It’s almost a gourmand with a dark chocolate essence, probably that vanilla and black truffle mix! I just know the couple that shares this fragrance is one SEXY couple 😍😍 but of course great for the singles as well!

Bror22

Normally i try to avoid rose fragrances, but i just sprayed this on myself and it is really beautiful done i think. I can smell the rose, but not i a bad way because it is well blended with the other ingredients..

scenturian

I m reading reviews that bashing TF as being designer. What if he is designer? What is wrong with that?

Let me clarify one big misconception, niche perfumery!
Which became popular about 15 years ago, and most people are mistaken by taking it as quality.
-a: What are you wearing?
-b: I am wearing niche :)
Ahahaha.

Niche means generally small boutique perfume makers which produce mainly experimental perfumes and are different than crowd pleaser mainline perfumes. Niche doesn't mean higher quality. It can be very well synthetic and cheap, eg Montale, Serge Lutens etc. Then people started bashing designers as low quality.

Finally designer brands started producing private lines, such as TF Private Blend or Chanel Les Exclusives etc. against this niche madness.

Is TF Private Blend high quality and worth the price tag? Definitely yes.

scenturian

Time to time smelling from the cap, oh my goodness, it is poisonous fire which is jailed in a bottle and wants to get out and intoxicate you and others around you.

Such a masterful execution, hail you Tom Ford!. Not only the best from the TF Private Line but also the best scent I have ever smelled.

Since I love roses so much this has been my signature for long time.

If you are into black-of-black scents or have gothic/metal style like me for sure give it a try.

Pricey but is worth every penny. Get this one instead over-hyped Tobacco Vanilla, or don't get it, I will be wearing alone, ahaha :)

Definitely head turner.

beelikestosmellgood

I’ll try to paint a picture here as best as I can: Pistachio cookies with a rose cream glaze. Moments between the sheets. Autumn in a park, reading your favorite book. The cherished and almost hidden corner seat in the back of a busy cafe. Drinking a lavender latte in a bookstore and leaving a lipstick stain on the rim. Rose petals scattered in a room lit by candlelight alone. It’s definitely a sweet scent, but it has enough spice to it that it reminds me of all these things. It’s an oud, so it lasts a while, but the punch of scent isn’t very strong as other oud’s I’ve tried. I would say this is definitely a scent that is dependent on the person, since it is still strong enough that it can wear you. For those people who love those things I’ve listed above, I say try it out and see what you think, since this might just be the perfect fit for you.

zaqr

A delicious wet, earthy, truffle and rose. This is rose done to perfection, it smells like the real deal without any synthetic vibe and the truffle adds a delightful earthyness. It's not necessarily for me and I wouldn't buy a full bottle, but I love smelling it. I personally think this would smell better on a woman. A master blend for sure, but not something I'd wear myself. Definitely worth smelling, especially if you love rose!

Granny Autismo

Kinda reminds me of ombré nomade by LV (they're both rose-ouds after all). Except for I'm not choking in oud overload when I smell this. Also this smells unequivocally gay

rosebv

I do not find this very unique. Maybe in the days earlier when there was not much choice. It is my least favorite Tom Ford and it was a blind buy. Its performance is also very weak on my skin. It like fades away in minutes. BUT!!!!! If you do not like it that much LAYER NOIR DE NOIR WITH KAYALI VANILLA ROYALE!!! In one word it gets heavenly delicious and precious.

Update: I have a batchcode A61. This is a batch from 2021 so the new formulation. Maybe that explains why the scent is nothing like reviewed by lovers of this scent

lemonsandroses

On my skin this smells like bitter, sour, old plastic on a humid hot day. The plastic is gummy to the touch and covered in lint. Someone tried to clean it with some expired soap but it only got stickier.

On my sweater it's very soft. Airy and sweet. Rose, truffle, patch, vanilla. Makes me think of a white persian cat resting on an embroidered pillow.

XeniaKoneva

I really wanted to love it, and I tried to love it but it is a pass for me. As a big fan of roses and everything gothic so I've set my expectations high for Noir de Noir. It seemed like we are meant for each other and I blind-bought it.
It is not a bad scent don't get me wrong, but it is average. Dark chocolate, roses, and mossy base. Performance was poor, and overall it turned out to be not as nuanced as I expected.

GrenadeGirl

Again, I go against the flow here (seems to be a theme of late). I love and own a number of Tom Ford scents, but as a blend of notes, this one just does not cut it for me at all!

Probably it is just personal. I'm no rose fan, and this is ROSE!! I can pick out loads of the notes, but honestly.... and I'm finding this a little hard to explain... it kinda jars my senses when I'm smelling it...? A little inner voice just says 'Nooo, don't like!!'

For me it will be a scrub, but at 4.33 out of 5? I've got to assume that is more a 'me' thing than an 'it' thing tbh, and if you like rose then you may just love this one.

Still Tom Ford style mortgage payment level pricing though, so sample it first...

colorfulmess

I thought this would be too boozy at first - the first blast gave off a bourbon/cognac vibe. I really love the rose and patchouli that comes through immediately, but then settles into something that reminds me of gingerbread cake. I can see why everyone loves it, but wish the rose would stay all the way through the scent journey.

tanoshi333

Such an amazing fragrance, very underrated within the Tom Ford private blend line. Only downside is that it's not very long lasting.

tanaC

This is hand down by far my most favorite fragrance from Tom Ford Private Blend.

How can you make such a tasty chocolate but also savory fragrance with formal dry down and strong rose in the same time?

Need a few more wear to writing the review.
=====
Full review on April 23, 2023 (15:30 hrs.)

I must admit I am under appreciate this one because I am still hunting "The Scent" for my special occasion that truly reflects the image as who I am, how I want to be announce, in the formal event.
I meet him during "Rose Journey" period (I pick up Lyric Man, Le Feille de Berlin during this period) I meet him very early, I still crave for the journey.
I dig deeper, I hunt more but eventually I feel like, there is nothing like Noir de Noir offering. I should just accept him as my "Special & The One" for formal event.

The easiest I can explain this one is "The Grand Ballroom" scent where everyone dress fully. "The Rose, Patchouli" from the feminine gown. "The Savory, The Chypre" from
a gentle man. dancing around magically the Ballroom.

I think the magical ingredients here is the "Oud & Vanilla", resulting in Chocolate accord.
Creamy chocolate accord that act as Gender binding agent so the scent can be wear by both.

It is mystical scent. I do know.
But why not (?), I like Phantom of Opera anyways.

This is sacred scent for me.

muncierobson

I love this but I hate the performance…

It’s a beautiful blend of truffles, rose and chocolate. It’s sexy, seductive and the notes smell natural to me (despite the ingredients list). I may prefer it to Black Orchid!

I cannot get enough of it! Not everyone is a fan and it’s a risky blind buy…

Unfortunately while long lasting, it’s mostly a skin scent after a couple of hours.

It was not like this when I last had it, some ten years ago :-(

Ba2siK

A dirty rose scent. personally I prefer Oud satin mood.

Simply stunning. Old, classic, unmatched Tom Ford at its peak. This is my most beloved of Ford's creations.
The smell of black truffle. Incomparable to anything. Wonderful aroma, earthy, deep, autumnal, slightly spicy with all the nuances and denseness of dark chocolate. It is not for nothing that the smell of black truffle is considered sensual. Tom Ford played it so exquisitely, he emphasized all its carnal passion. The embodiment of carnal pleasures. Dirt, feast, lust, agitation, euphoria, caress.
Noir de Noir is so luxurious and passionate, although not animalic. The truffle dominates, the saffron is a supporter, a drop of oud is also felt, and at times the deep burgundy rose occurs, it is royal here, languid, velvety, voluptuous, sometimes so far in the composition, that it is not felt as a separate note. Composition seems to have a slight hint of dark sugary nectar. And bitterness, like chypre bitterness. And then the powerful smell of earthy patchouli, the smell of soil, which is necessary to build truffles and roses. Somewhere in the depths - rotten leaves and overripe sweet fruits. And rain. And tiny soil creatures, like worms.
Hedonistic joy and a reminder that the earth, which gives life, finally, in the end takes us all back, with all of our joys and escapades.

Enormous projection for first 4 hours. Not sure if it ever dried down. Easily goes 12+ hours. In fact I get a faint hint of NDN even after a shower.
The cologne lean’s feminine. I smell strong rose and patchouli. The oud is very well blended and not offensive. This is the best rose scent but at the end of the day rose is rose and to me reminds me of the old grandmas at church that you can smell from 3 pews away.
I have tried going lighter on the spray and that helps me smell more facets than the dominant rose scent but still for me personally a rose cologne is not a winner even if this is the best rose scent I have smelled.

snifftacular

@LuvScnts I was at the department store about a week ago, and I saw this still being sold. I asked the lady working there about this being discontinued, and she said that it hasn't been discontinued. Apparently TF pulled it off the market temporarily due to a shortage of certain raw materials, but now it's back on the market.

I tested it, and it's not for me.

Very strong though

Koko_S

on my skin lasted only for about 2 hours, honestly I was shocked for one such cold weather perfume. So, don't blind buy it, always go and test it first. It is beautiful nonetheless

LuvScnts

This is a fragrance to wear to a formal event, particularly in at night in cooler weather. I heard it’s being discontinued. Can anyone confirm that?

Czill

This is one of the most beautiful perfumes for me. Creamy rose and pinch of truffles. It calms me down and makes me feel proud.
I am gutted it’s not stronger… due to its price I use it quite sparsely as I never want to run out of this juice.

lianna68

This fragrance is to me a strong memory that came from nowhere, or perhaps the deepest recesses of my mind, the first instant I smelt it. I was a young child in the 70's, falling asleep on my mother's lap, my head against her chest, her heart beat loud, strong, lulling me, hearing her voice so loud in her chest when she spoke. It is a hot sultry night in Australia, we are under a leafy oak tree in a family friend's backyard.
Everyone has been drinking wine and they are all very mellow and chilled, there is smoke from a BBQ fire, and people smoking. I am sleepy and feel so safe and content on my mother's lap, nothing can go wrong when she is holding me.
I had forgotten all about those nights at the Belair's house as a child. My mother's perfume, her skin smelt like this, I know it did when I smell Noir de Noir. I have no idea what perfume she wore back then, but this is so familiar.
My mother died when I was 25, she was too young, she was my best friend, I held her hand as she died, I still think of her almost every day 28 years later. I love this perfume and every time I smell it that night comes back to me, but I struggle to wear it very often because it brings such a deep and aching grief that is almost unbearable, it makes me feel that if I just close my eyes and reach out, she will be there, I can smell her, right there, somewhere.
The memories tinge this fragrance for me so much, but it also has a feeling of deepness and almost melancholy in some ways. The blowsy, boozy deep dark rose, the almost earthy soil, the damp woodiness, the patchouli, my mother loved patchouli.
It's a masterpiece of a fragrance, and I wish I could wear it more often and without the memories, but alas, they are forever intertwined in my psyche.
I have none left, and reminiscing here I realise I must get some more, even though it's almost torture in some strange way, how to explain?

To me, Noir de noir is the best Tom Ford unisex fragrance ever, one of the best and most unique rose oud combos I’ve ever smelt. It opens with a bust of luxurious rose truffle scent, then the smoothness of vanilla becomes more visible in the dry down. It is dark, sensual and mysterious; exuding confident, class and inner soft power of the wearer. I got hooked with this fragrance when I smelt it from a lady in black dress and high heels walking up the church ailes; her confident, her chic look, her smell, those just captured in my mind everytime I smell this fragrance. It is like one of those fragrances you smell it from others, get obsessed and have to buy it for yourself immediately. 🙈

gandrasta

This is Sam Smith's Unholy in a bottle. Dark, dirty and sultry. It's all about rose and patchouli with a hint of tamed oud in the background. If you can't handle heavy patchouli, please stay away. Patchouli is the only thing I can smell after 8+ hours. Filling the rooms, make a huge trails and above average long longevity.

La Nuit Noir

Valentine’s Day in a bottle!

Black rose & truffle open strongly, with a chocolatey sweetness following and then rose cutting through. A soft vanilla 'green' leafy base.

Ajrullah Utur

I agree 100% with the comment below... this is very similar to Ombre Nomade by LV
Lovely choclate scent, personally i find it appealing on women however this is a 8/10... might not be for everyone but if you are a woman with a style & class and you're looking for something that truly set you apart try this

AdalynEverly

I think if you hate patchouli THIS IS NOT FOR YOU!! I vacillate between semi-enjoying this, and then not liking it at all. The saffron, the truffle, and the rose are REALLY good in this perfume. However, the patchouli is my main issue with the perfume. It smells way to0 dirty too earthy, and dark.

Child Chemist

I was expecting more drama from Noir de Noir, with its infamous wine and dark chocolate notes. But actually, I find it subtle, chic and mysterious. A creamy, well-blended rose-patchouli, which develops into a sweet vanilla. It evokes the feeling of winding down at a late-night party.

eaudemale

It’s funny how no one has mentioned similarities between this and Ombré Nomade.. this one has a chocolate earthy salty note and ON is super strong and a bit more oudy. One that is very in the same family but nuclear and more rosey patchouli hence a bit more feminine is Black Aoud by Montale. Can’t go wrong with any of these, this one being the “weakest”.
Edit: drydown reminds me of vintage and a bit more complex Thierry Mugler Angel. It really transitioned from a rose oud to a woody chocolate patchouli that doesn’t resemble the initial stage.

Marie20707

Someone gifted me a new atomizer of this fragrance. Without even spraying it on me, I can smell it. This is beast mode that I don't think I can pull off. This is a cold weather fragrance, not to be worn in the crazy heat as this is heavy. I think I'm going to gift this to someone.

Bongski😎

It smells as if i went out clubbing, some cigarette scent….cool😎👍

Tom Ford noir de noir edp

It opens with saffron so that you get swept away in the first dose, it is very strong, intense nose tiring. It doesn't take 10 minutes to add the scent of fresh roses, and the feast begins at this very point. Other flora notes accompanying the cork and rose, adding a little earthiness... and dusty patchouli, warm vanilla, oud and oak moss in the depths.
What I feel most clearly is a vanilla dusty rose dipped in saffron...
A warm, strong and characterful fragrance that starts a little harsh, softens slightly but still maintains its sharpness. Very dominant. The bottle has a charismatic scent. It's a complete signature. In every environment it enters, it turns heads towards itself and dominates all other scents. It does this without any effort. The 2 sprays in it dominate 10 whistles of many niche(!) perfumes, perhaps with janjan, beautifully packaged but hollow. With its strength, with its character, with its quality. As you draw deeply, you will feel the harmony of the points. Well, those hours left on the skin, the next state ☺️ dear noir de noir, you are the perfume of nights, cold seasons, people with a sincerely realistic character. When used correctly, you like all seasons at night, but mostly cold seasons and cold skin. It's hard to love, it's hard to love, but you also get the lover into yourself. The one who designed you really made you meticulously. Whoever it is, good luck to your hands and work 🙏🏼

Thatbwoy

This is marketed towards women, and I can completely understand that, as ‘sex sells’. On a woman this smells ‘sexy’; think Linda Fiorentino in ‘The Last Seduction’; sultry powerful, independent and in control.

On a man? This is the smell of pure dark confidence and self-assurance. Not cocky, arrogance, not that kind of stupid bravado, that swaggering twattery.

No, on both a man and a woman this creates a singularity. An almost gravitational pull. This feels like a fragrance seldom ‘worn’ more it ‘wears’ others.

I like to think I wear this well.

Thesmallestaromaticfeline

My number one most favorite fragrance from Tom Ford. Smelling this scent, I mostly get chocolate, oud and rose. These notes work together in a perfect harmony. It smells opulent, elegant, a little bit feminine, but you can also pull this off as a guy, if you have style. I just wish it had the performance and projection of Tobacco oud.

Afc_Croatian

This is one of the most unique scents I own in my 50+ collection.
I consider this more unisex, EVEN THOUGH it smells like a rich middle-aged lady who wears expensive clothing and always has a Prada bag on her left hand. Very specific, I know.
As a man, give this one a try, the earthiness with the saffron and the rose and the vanilla comes together so well. Worth the price IMO. :)

supermama

Heard that this has been reformulated. Got one from the 2019 batch with a quite good discount so I am super excited at time moment. Cannot wait until the weather is cooler to enjoy it fully.

RottigrlNYC

Very nice fragrance, I love it. I have two bottles but I bought mine a few yrs ago and suspect it’s been reformulated. It’s a very nice fragrance but weak. Doesn’t project but it does last. And my skin just drinks up fragrances, most don’t last past the first hour, but this one is still going after 6. But like i said, only I can smell it. It sits close to the skin. Still one of my faves from Tom Ford. I’d love so much for someone to sell me a decant of a vintage noir de noir. And I will in turn share a decant of the original Black Orchid from 2008. I bought a bottle due to the hype, didn’t appreciate it much back then so I put it back in it’s box and stored it away. After all these years it’s a beast. Trust me the BO of today does not compare. I have quite a few vintage fragrances from 10-35 yrs ago, most I would never part with a drop. So DM me if you would like to swap vintage TF. I for some reason also bought Creed Love In Black back then. I fell for the hype, I really don’t like it. It’s weird. Or Love In White. I have both, never wear them. Will sell them both one day when I have time .

officialzoki

Noir de Noir leans more masculine as the base notes of Patchouli, Vanilla, Oud and Oakmoss overpower the other notes.

This fragrance is very gothic but in a sexy way.

[Noir De Noir]
⚫️⚫️⚫️⚫️⚫️

The sexiest rose in existence.
Black Orchid listens to Panic! At The Disco.
Noir De Noir likes Nine inch Nails.

TeachOlfactoryArt

Reformulations destroyed it. My bottle from 2009 is divine & 2 sprays last allllll day & night.

Coffeeandscents

Have the reformulations ruined noir de noir? Possibly. I have a travel size bottle from 2022 : all I smell is a fresh rose followed by some sweet notes on an earthy base. . It only lasts about an hour on my skin unfortunately. I do love roses but this is not worth the price in 2022.

AHeroicDuck2K

What can I say about this fragrance that hasn't been said already? Absolutely nothing, so maybe this will end up just being an essay on how much I love this scent!

I first got my nose on this fragrance in about September 2021. At first, I couldn't stand it. I found it way too floral and feminine. I guess my nose wasn't accustomed to smelling stuff like this, and safe to say I have really changed my tune on this absolute beauty!

I gave my 2ml decant to my mother as I thought she'd like it more than me. Yes, she really loved it but couldn't see herself ever owning a bottle of it. She gave me back the sample when there was only enough for a few small sprays. I applied it on my skin in March of 2022 after trying a few more rose/oud combinations and I really regretted hating on this fragrance at the start. Oh god, this one opens up with the most delicious jammy rose mixed with dark patchouli and truffle. The supporting notes add a chocolatey feel to the rose, and makes it smell similar to Fry's Turkish Delight (remember that stuff?). That was it. My nose was glued to my wrist for hours afterwards. This fragrance latched onto my skin and would not let go. It was the bully who stole my backpack in school and would never give it back. This fragrance is dark, sexy and oh-so delicious. I couldn't get enough of it.

In May 2022, following the start of my new job and getting some money, I went and bought myself a bottle from Harvey Nichols. I was so excited that I paid extra for next-day delivery and in the interim I was sniffing the decant bottle like crazy. As soon as it arrived, I slathered this beauty on my skin and I was transported to the time when I first fell in love with Noir de Noir. And oh, how bad I feel for letting this one slip out of my hands for so long! I slept on this scent for 7 months. Those 7 months could've been spent enjoying this intoxicating fragrance in all of its glory but alas, my untrained nose did not agree with it. This scent is truly a masterpiece from the original 12 private blends and I am so glad that I got my hands (and nose) on it.

So, enough of me rambling on... How does the oud smell in it? Very, very soft but plays a vital role in sweetening up the formulation. It adds a slight touch of earthiness that blends beautifully with the patchouli and rose. The vanilla is not very prominent in this fragrance. To me, it's just a symphony of rose and patchouli, with the slightest touch of oud to finish off the composition. Every single note sings in perfect harmony. The saffron adds a touch of spice with a very slight leathery tone, the vanilla adds a bit of sweetness, the oud adds a woodiness and sweetness, and so on.

Unfortunately, longevity is where this fragrance really falls apart. I own an AA1 batch, which is dated as being produced in October 2021. It really doesn't last at all. 30 minutes of projection, maybe 2 hours of it being a skin scent, and that's literally it. It's really been watered down hard and the opening is basically all you get. It's a lovely scent and I really can't get enough of it, but that performance issue really does strike off a load of points in my books, especially once you take a look at the price they charge for this juice.

Overall, this scent gets a 5 out of 10 from me. The fragrance itself is absolutely stunning but the performance and price just kicks off so many points for me. I'm not totally against paying £210 for a 50ml bottle (as I now own 5 private blends at this price bracket) but I really cannot justify spending so much money on a weak performer.

PS: I remember sampling this fragrance in late 2021 with a batch I'd assume of 2018 at the latest, and the performance on that one was absolutely nuclear. It had way more depth than my bottle too! If I just got a dodgy batch, I'll update my review accordingly.

Staretsi

This is a strong oriental fragrance for sure, more suited to evening events where one seeks to allure. It signifies confidence and sophistication. The saffron opening is lovely. It then settles on rose and truffle before finishing on vanilla and oud.

One of the best I have.

Duver

Have you guys seen that series The 100? Noir de Noir smells like that environment (on Earth, not in space). It also matches the song “the other side” by Woodkid

senzuri

Honestly a must have. I rated it as overpriced cause it doesn't last as long as I want it to so I have to use a lot/reapply which severely ups the price ratio IMO. Regardless, this is the perfect grown up f*ckboy scent. Move on from a million and creed and wear this. Wearing this is like saying, yeah, I'm sexy as fuck AND have great taste. People will constantly tell you how good you smell. This also mixes GREAT with my /natural/ scent. I frequent a lot of gay events and even within the new sect of men who "hate cologne/scents/deodorant" I get compliments all night. Great for women too. It's ridiculously sexy and anyone who smells it will probably be h-word for you. EVERY time I smell this in the club I'm enthralled and track whoever it is wearing it down. It is /the/ scent.

Glyph

Hauntingly beautiful truffled patchouli-rose that smells almost like extremely dark chocolate. One of the most beautiful fragrances I've ever smelled, although it's entirely gone in four hours. The chypre structure aids in its complexity.

Everyone who loves fragrance should try this at least once.

silthrill

Having separation anxiety from Atelier's Cafe Tuberosa as it's been discontinued. The existence of Noir de Noir mitigates this anxiety- near identical, only Noir de Noir is better blended and doesn't have that candied grape note from the tuberose.

zotykiel

I want to be fair and continue my review: the longevity is pathetic though.

zotykiel

Comparing fragrances side by side can sometimes lead to the most interesting conclusions. I have loved Tom Ford Noir for a long time now and I've always found it a very deep fragrance. Noir Extreme never stole my heart, I found it too generic and a pleaser. Today I decided to compare Noir to Noir de Noir, side by side. Conclusion? Noir has nothing on Noir de Noir, the latter one is 100 times deeper and so much better quality. It's one of the most beautiful interpretations of the rose I've ever seen in fragrance.

orangelips11

Honestly I don't like this one opening, smell like chinese herbal oil to me, quite weird, but its dry down smell much better
than the opening, if rosy scent I prefer Rose Prick or Cafe Rose more than this one

torturedsoulboy

Chanel Mademoiselle Pour Homme right here. I love that men find it more feminine and women find it more masculine... That means that it's a great date night fragrance, but I probably wouldn't wear it on a boys night out.

Goodgoddamnscents

I have dramming bottles and Decants of this. My ig name is my screen name.

ethanp

Easily my favorite fragrance, by Tom Ford or anyone else. Scent itself has a very designer touch to it, but pushes the boundaries in its complexity. Rose, semi-sweet dark chocolate, earthiness. Practically a gourmand. During the evenings + on a cool day, this would absolutely kill. It's one of the most suggestive scents I've ever had the pleasure of trying. Completely unisex: guys should wear with confidence, and if a girl wears this I'm folding like a chair. Dark and gothic, I absolutely love this. I'm 21 year old in college, and I get the possibility of it being a bit mature/dark for people in my age group, but seriously try this shit at your local mall/Tom Ford. Yes, longevity isn't great tho. Currently saving up for a bottle!!

ularewolf

Dewy rose petals sprinkled upon a bed of patchouli, vanilla bean pods and rich dark chocolate.

Pure bliss, recommended for modern Chypre, Coromandel and Richwood lovers.

Jbicanic89

I wasn't a fan at first, but after testing samples for a while, this became my favourite fragrance of the private line. It's Dark, mature, super unisex, earthy, and sweet. My only gripe would be that the longevity could be better.

efferfevescent

Smells like a very expensive bougie organic fair-trade dark chocolate shop. It's mature and sexy, but also a little playful. Overall a wonderful fragrance.

It is pretty unisex for a chocolate scent due to the lack of sweetness.

Initial projection is pretty strong, but longevity is lacking for the price. It gives me about 6 hours before I need to push my nose into my skin.

tomas.kuska

Gourmand rose, my favorite one from all Tom Fords perfumes. Its dark, seductive, creamy….just the longevity could be better.

jooha72

This one is an advanced version of Black Opium of Yves Saint Laurant's. But unlike BO, I don't feel anything nauseating. Personally, I can feel a truffle's salé(salty) scent with a saffron. With the conflicting two fragrance oddly making a harmony, a dark chocolate and somewhat coffee-like scent takes place. The drydown is a black cold chiffon rose. This is so beautiful. I personally value the drydown more because I usually don't prefer rose floral perfumes. I think the scent of the cold black rose might also go well with hot weather in South Korea, which is on average 30~37 degree Celsius. It's dark and blue, but never heavy.

Tincel

Oooh, very interesting, can't wait to try this on skin (I was busy with Jasmin Rouge)! Does anyone else get olive though? It also has an old-school vibe (the oakmoss? Can you call this a chypre?) that is pleasant, and I usually strongly dislike old scents.

Sidenote; what's up with the oakmoss? Did they recreate it or did they actually use oakmoss?

meama

technically it sucks, no projection and sillage, it could be the smell of a patchouli-rose body cream. It was not the case before the reformulation but in the time being it's a diluted scam usurping its former reputation.

bowlofrice123

This perfume was love at first sniff. After many years of smelling generic, fresh "blue" fragrances, this one made me believe there was more to perfumery than what's found at your typical department store.

Earthy, dark, jammy rose with a fresh saffron opening. This fragrance certainly leans towards being oriental, however it's not quite so. Perhaps the earthiness of the truffle adds a more modern twist. I've certainly never smelt anything like this before, and the uniqueness of this perfume justified the price for me. Beautifully elegant, mysterious, and cozy.

However, I so wish this lasted longer and projected better. With a 2021 bottle, 5-7 sprays on my shirt and neck lasts me 3ish hours with moderate sillage, and then this perfume quickly becomes a skin scent. I know it's not anosmia since I asked someone else if they could smell me after 3 hours and they had to lean in to say "not really". Here's to hoping maceration can save this beauty.

***[Edit]***

After almost two years of owning this fragrance, it remains my absolute favorite. There's such a rich complexity to this scent that gives you a slightly different experience every time; some days NdN smells more of rose, some days a stronger patchouli, some days a fresher saffron. The depth/longevity I believe has also improved with age, especially when sprayed on clothes. I don't think this is strictly a cold weather scent; the rich truffle really shines in warmer weather.

TouristTrophy

Lovely in a dark and brooding kind of way. More manly (probably due to being less floral) and certainly less nuclear than TF Black Orchid - but otherwise somewhat reminiscent. I would call it Black Orchid’s more mature and less flashy older brother. Whereas Black Orchid still drives a white BMW M series, Noir de Noir has “graduated” to a more subdued and timeless silver or black Porsche 911.

Saltychipdust

Reform or not this stuff hangs on to clothes forever. I get well over 24 hours on my shirts when I wear this. I just love that deep dark scent. It has the perfect amount of sweetness and floral touch anyone over 30 can pull this off. This has moved ahead of Tuscan Leather for me.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY TO ALL THE LOVELY LADIES💖

Three years running I am wearing Noir de Noir on Valentine's Day⭐ Smelling of dark red roses and absolutely loving it🌹 This is romance, stars, smiles and happiness in a bottle.

Enjoy your day, my Amazing Fragrantica Friends😘

spray_my_nutsack

Thomasc stop being a batch bitch go and buy the damn thing .

Elite Gentleman

Awesome stuff. Contrary to what seems to be popular opinion, I don't care that the rose in this smells feminine. I like it in the same way that I enjoy that the iris is reminiscent of lipstick in Dior Homme Intense. Probably reformulated past what it used to be, but I still get very good performance from this. As a skin scent, it stays for more than 8 hours.

Very addicting skin scent that I use for my own enjoyment or for special occasions. Especially when I want to subvert people's expectations like Rian Johnson or the last season of Game of Thrones.

Srben

AzuLX described this fragrance as "Valentine's in a bottle", and that's a perfect description.

The initial spray on my skin smelled like a woman's perfume, but once the dry-down started, this morphed into a unisex scent of roses, wine, and expensive chocolate. When I'm in the mood to wear something with floral notes, this scratches the itch. This fragrance smells even better wearing it while you're drinking a hot espresso beverage.

Mina Abdo

If you are patchouli lover, then this TF is paradise.
Chocolaty, spicy and earthy patchouli.
Super mature and the juice is really refined.

Prestige Villain

Horn, tooth, a widow's peak. A man in blue gowns raises the tinted visor of his motorcycle helmet and reviews his accounts. Solstice approaches; I weigh my obsidians.

evega21

Smells floraly and like rose water at first then jammy truffle, chocolaty spices begin to come out. Beautiful spicy sweet vanilla woody dry down. Very similar to BTV Ardent.

Shadow_Slammer

Noir de Noir by Tom Ford is a favorite of mine. First off, I’m a huge fan of rose/oud fragrances. Overall this fragrance is warm, and could even be considered dark or mysterious. It opens up floral with woody rose but tones down quickly with a warm chocolate earthy vibe, coming from the patchouli and truffle. I think this could be worn in all weather or as a signature scent. 10/10 sexy.

A.Bandini

Rose, patch, vanilla...all belong to the list of my disliked notes and this fragrance is all about a rosey patch on a vanillic base. To me its also leaning feminine. It certainly and obviously has its fans but i am not one of em.

anton_jsk

I've bought my in Stockholm in 2019 and it's fabulous. But let's be honest, all nonsense that people write here about "darkness", "maturity" and blablabla isn't relatable. Why? Because the main ingredient and the main note that stays with you for hours is saffron. Does it associate with anything, except being itself self-sufficient? Noir de Noir is very appealing, however, it's very floral (as saffron is basically a flower and than spice). It's not CH or Paco, Lagerfeld Man or Burberry, it's not rosy-woody scent and definitely has nothing to do with oud. It's very sensual and very, let's say, hooking.

BUT!!!!! Price is absolutely crazy. I understand that saffron isn't cheap, but 310 euros for 100 ml?

Come on, for this price you can buy return tickets from any European country to Middle East or India to bring home original saffron and oud. So save money!

AD80

There’s something really throwback about this scent…wanna see a magic trick? Layer this with Oud Wood

DenM

Definitely a very mature fragrance. It surely has a dark feel to it. I personally dislike the opening, after 10’ it becomes dark rose/oud and pretty much stays linear after. It is long lasting, not a sweet scent, certainly an interesting one but I prefer Silk Mood from MFK over Noir de Noir. Test before purchasing.

Nick_thornwood

This was the first fragrance I purchased for myself from the private blend range and over the two years I've had it, it's only continued to grow on me as a beloved scent. For me it opens with a dark and yet somehow juicy smelling rose that is quickly supported by the earthiness of black truffle. Together, the two read to me as either dark chocolate, or a complex red wine, depending on my mood. Performance is great, it lasts for ages on the skin, and if you're wearing this, other people will know. A beautiful, creative take on rose fragrances. It conjures to my imagination a middle-eastern palace in the desert, beneath a starry night sky. I wear this at night, often just before bed as I find it calming and just deeply beautiful. This is a must have if you like Rose.

Dr.Afro

Poor TOM FORD Beauty😔😞😕🙁😢
What has happened to you ?!?you have become a watered 💦 down easily washed away skin scent within an hour or two ! You expensive glass bottle of mess!
I have purchased at least three new 2021 batches of some of your most legendary fragrances including this one and they are all just watered down fragments of what you used to be ….thankfully I still have a milliliter or two of these old magnificent legends in my collection which allows me to easily make a comparison of your wicked new waters and return these 2021 batch to whence they came…. Back to the the soulless and heartless retail monster that is selling this washed up watered down vitamin water of a scent… Alas, I fear our Romance is over……

catgotnose

Gothic perfume, and definitely deserves the name.

I am so into dark, spooky, eerie stuffs, and this would be the scent of them. This is very masculine I think. Maybe not the notes but the overall profile makes it that way. I mean women can wear it but then it would be a woman wants to smell masculine or femme fatal. I picture a guy who wear deep dark burgundy velvet jacket on black pants at a dinner table with black or red candles. Or he enters a party and everybody stare at him. It is very very sexy. Some say Dracula’s perfume. I see it but without the cape and just in suit. Not Gary Oldman but Claes Bang.

I think it definitely requires an occasion. It is not an everyday scent. I remember one day I wore it on a very normal office day, and I was thinking like what did I do, it is totally inappropriate.

First, it is dark and earthy, then it is dark rose. It doesn’t smell like patchouli scents I know. But I guess it helps the earthiness. So it is not that rosy or sweet. I totally get them but the most prominent note is truffle I think. I get the soil, earth. And some woodiness. It must be oud and moss. But definitely not middle eastern oriental. It is very sexy and romantic.

I wish I could be that person I described. Since I can’t, I wear it so rarely.

I think Tom Ford is a brand way above average as scent profiles. They did a lot of unique and ground breaking fragrances and Noir de Noir is definitely one of them. As Dahlia (perfume enthusiasts know who she is) says, Tom Ford is so cool.

Shammy275

I blind bought a 10ml of this and oh my god, I’ve never had such a nostalgic feeling from a perfume I’ve never smelled before. This smells exactly like being a child and sitting on my mothers bed watching her get ready for an evening out, a mix of her perfume, makeup and hair products, the heat of her hairdryer amplifying them all. Once it dried down I get a lot more of the wine/roses/chocolate qualities. Really love this one, don’t see myself getting a full bottle though as this is a special occasion perfume for me, if I ever finish this 10ml I’ll probably just get another.**

**edit: I’m a complete hypocrite lol, turns out this is a lot more wearable for me than I first thought, still not a grab and go by any means but I’m flying through my little 10ml, I grabbed a 100ml bottle on Black Friday for less than the retail price of a 50ml, I just couldn’t pass it up, this has quickly become my #1 fragrance in my collection.

ikea pencil

Eek! Grandma? Is that you?

Wanted to love but was disappointed. The truffle with the patchouli and vanilla create something so sweet and dirty this feels more like an old person's skin with some really cheap hand lotion. Rose is especially hard to nail as it's so prominent in older perfumes and here it definitely makes this smell dated. The rose and saffron together are lovely but the sweetness of the vanilla butts in too much and gives this an overly feminine hair-conditioner smell. The only silver lining here is the the chocolatey facets that come and go and the quality TF is known for. That's about it.

I tested this ON SKIN and I'm shook so many people enjoy this. Some of the ingredients by themselves are great but on the together this really does just smell like overly sweet vanilla with old person BO. Hard pass.

On me it’s all the way warm spicy. I thought it’s saffron at first, and that it would go away as time passes but it didn’t. I can’t detect the rose on my skin at all but it’s very detectable on clothes. In the last half an hour it was all about faded vanilla. It’s not special but it’s loud in a way that screams special events.

Absolutely amazing. Strong and sooo deep. It's Tom Ford, that's it.

Patchouli and Rose perfection! At first, this did not leave any good impression; during the snowy wintertime, going to Christmas market, and going out to bars with my date, this shined, and had been my go-to scent. Somehow, the mix of rose, patchouli, truffle, and vanilla seem to create these seemingly chocolatey, cocoa-like vibes which I can't get enough of. This will stay forever in my collection definitely.

Revontuli

Holy moly. I'm shaking. Don't know where to start. If the reformulated version smells this darn good, I can't even imagine the original formula. I long ignored (or had to) TF's fragrances due to the price tag, but I won't let the idea of having slept on the original Noir de Noir dishearten me...

...Because what I already have right now on my skin is beyond heaven. I can say that I have found my perfect rose perfume. The rose-oud combination turns generally sour on my skin, which is why all my latest purchases have been a disappointment and I almost gave up. This perfume, on the contrary, is THE rose I envision when I think of a rose perfume: Bold, dark, velvety, sexy, blood red. Luckily the sweetness starts to appear quickly on my skin and in a few minutes I am surrounded by balmy, chocolatey rose.

I love vampires...I love goth...And my inner goth vampire is bottled in Noir de Noir.

Edit: If you love Mugler's Angel, you will love this. I don't mean they are dupes, although they share some notes, but... Rather the identity of both perfumes. I'm going crazy!

With TFs bizarre naming this beautiful, alluring, masculine fragrance might have been called Carnal Knowledge. Its the male equivalent of Plum Japonais, a mesmerising, opulent and sexy female (at least to me) scent.
What lets many rose based fragrances down is the overwhelming, enveloping rose cloud. It's just too much, and so dull, essentially great big rose (often with oud or some such) farts.
NDN is different, delivers an intense, rich and earthy rose, mellowed with a hint of chocolate. It's strong and takes a bit of getting used to but once settled is addictive, a real date night fragrance.
4/5
Update: New TF candidate names for this:
Vampire Sucks
Voodoo Whoodo
Crimson Gusher
Knee Trembler
Fanny Flutter
Heart Fart
Thank god with Ebene Fume some common sense has returned.
PS just read Revontuli's review. Holy Moly now added to the list.

I always wanted a bottle of Noir de Noir since the first time I sniffed it at the duty free and was blown away by this dreamy dark rose with chocolate deepness as I'm a sucker for rose scents..finally I gifted myself one as an early birthday gift..however..now I have mixed feelings towards it! It is for sure a very high quality scent..well blended and doesn't smell like the generic perfumes on the market due to its deepness and sophisticated blend but it kinda leans to the masculine side in the dry down..well I know it's a unisex perfume but the dry down is more masculine than it is feminine to my uneducated nose still..probably the oud patchouli combo..dnt get me wrong it's a gorgeous perfume and I'm gonna use it up all but won't buy again..I like sweet feminine perfumes..longevity is great about 6 hours or more ..projection isn't big but its definitely there..my next buy would be oud satin mood

Gorgeous fragrance and wonderful blending. I have wanted to buy this one since a long time hence I had bought its lowdet brother Tobacco Vanille a year ago. Though, every time I test this at the counter, I get disappointed with how watery and thin it has become. Reminds me of the softness of many waterd-down bykilians. Such a shame. I think Estée-Lauder is fragcom's biggest enemy. They buy the best nisch-hosues and make their frags more "appealing" and less nischy. that's a shame. It is a pass for me. I'll wait until some real niche-houses come with similar scents. Do you here my Xerjoff, Teziana Terenze?

User123

I don't get it, I tested this on a paper and I can hardly smell it anymore after some hours. Not enough sprays, bad batch, something else?

My favorite of Tom Fords darker perfumes is Black Orchid because of its rampant sensuality. I am not too fond of roses in perfumery, but Noir de Noir is as if Black Orchid picked up a rose and straightened up. BO is chaotic, dirty, sexy and megalomanic, but Noir de Noir is channeling all this in one direction. It smells ambitious and targeted. It is wild, but serious. It gave me a feeling of almost being worthy of it and that one day I will wake up and realise I have grown into this. It has so much character - I feel rock solid when I wear it.

I have a 10 ml of this patchouli n rose beauty. I really like it but I’m on the fence for a full bottle. I think it really shines in the dry down. It’s not a room filler but wafts quite nicely. The scent is mysterious and nothing about this tries to be like anything else that I know of. I’m going to have to try Portrait of a Lady to see which rose fragrance I will buy next. Is Noir de Noir up for the battle?

I will do not be in lace with this Noir de Noir...
It's a real olfactive killer, one of the best TOM FORD of the Private Blend collection.
As much acclaimed by women as by men. (Although in my opinion more masculine than feminine).
Noir de Noir is the perfect combination, the meeting of the dark, the sensual, the opulent...
This generous enveloping oriental warmth, rich in feminine floral essences, masculine pragmatism...
The fragrance consists of saffron, rose, vanilla, patchouli, Oud, crocus flower, oak moss and black truffle.
Imagine a very dark rose, dip it in melted dark chocolate, add a little earthy side, a touch of Oud, vanilla and patchouli, and you will get Noir de Noir.
A delicious combination of ingredients that make this juice a wild, dark, earthy, velvety, deep, sexy...
The perfect mix for a romantic date.
Just avoid wearing this Noir de Noir with jeans, tee and sneakers... A certain outfit is required with this kind of olfactory magnificence.
However, be careful with the sprayer.
For me, a maximum of 6 sprays is more than enough, otherwise you will feel suffocated.
It's not an office scent, as it will be difficult for you and the people round you to concentrate on work.
I will rather classify this juice in the perfumes to wear in autumn/winter.
In terms of sillage and longevity, it's simply phenomenal !!!!
And even after several days on the clothes, you will still detect a sweet smell of truffle and patchouli.
From morning to evening, the first 4 to 6 hours are heavy and penetrating, and we can follow you without any worries.
Then, the softness makes its appearance, and the fragrance arises, are more softens to be as close as possible to the skin, and this for 8 to 10 hours...
The last hours of drying are of a succulent powdery softness...
But make no mistake, you will not go unnoticed, because this Noir de Noir is the Phantom of the Opera in a bottle !!
A true masterpiece, made of a delicate black lace, a note of powdery rose, and an irresistible dark side...
Young people on the other hand sorry but you will have to wait a few years before appreciating this Noir de Noir at its true value.
Conclusion: One of the best fragrances in the Private Blend collection, in my top 5.
A sober class and a certain sophistication emerges, with an above-average longevity.
Don't try it, you might end up adopting it.
My rating: 10/10

Quite nice. I get a warm, dark and sensual chocolate vibe with the usual Tom Ford DNA. However, having both Black Orchid and Noir Extreme, I find this redundant. They serve the same purpose with this being not that loud.

i want to love this because i can tell it’s beautiful, but it just smells like dusty freaking doo doo on my damn skin. rose-centric scents often don’t get along with me...i’m taking it personally. this is the fourth or so time ive given it a chance and for the entire 6 hours i had it on i smelled like a diaper after babey ate too many truffle and mommy dumped rose scented baby powder to mask the smell

One of the few TF perfumes I like and it's such a surprise! One of my main dislikes of TF perfumes are that they're almost always a patchouli bomb and I genuinely dislike a lot of patchouli in fragrance. Noir de noir is a fragrance where you can smell the patchouli (so if you avoid it completely, don't bother), but the other notes in this are so good on my skin that it doesn't bother me. It's a very confidence boosting perfume!

This perfume, on me, starts as a very sexy, earthy rose and it stays there for a bit before becoming a bit more subdued and more gourmand. It's strong, but not like black orchid, I could wear this one out with friends or to the library without worrying about it giving headaches because it does sit close to the skin. If sprayed on clothes, it's much stronger, however.

At a certain point, the patchouli does start to become stronger than the rose and that's when I don't like the perfume. But, then and eventually, everything dries down to a woodsy vanilla and I love it again and for the rest of its wear time.

What happened to you Noir de Noir? I used to love this fragrance. When I was in my early twenties, I ADORED this. I just felt like it was the epitome of mysterious - sex and class in a bottle. I just never purchased it because I did not feel that it suited me at the time. I felt too young, and like I would be imitating the woman I wanted to be rather than the one I really was - a faker (I ended up getting Une Rose, which was a more suitable rose for that girl).

Anyway now, in my early thirties, I thought "It's time. This is now an authentic representation of the woman I have become".

I headed to the counter, sprayed it generously on the blotter and ...sour? I was hit with a tart, screechy rose, some damp earth and not much else. Where is that black truffle accord and almost chocolatey richness?

This fragrance now feels like the imitation, the faker- and judging by previous reviews, I am not alone in my feelings.

How disappointing.

I just purchased an all over body spray of Noir de Noir. I just can't get over the similarity to Armaf Club de Nuit Intense for women - which is of course available at a fraction of the cost! The TF does have the most gorgeous deeply sweet dry down and it definitely has superior longevity (even for a body spray) but if you have the Armaf, I doubt you would need this too.

cwavah

Very nice well done rose and oud fragrance

a master piece

Just received a sample of this and have sprayed it on a test strip. I haven’t sprayed in on my skin yet.
First impressions: Well Sh%#.
It made me swear. Out loud. Takes a special kinda scent to do that.
Will review some more when I’ve got over the initial (albeit lovely) shock and have stopped trying to eat the test paper.

Platane

It's more like patchouli than chocalate and the rose is well blended with oud I think. Not for gourmand lovers, so try it before buy.

Xyber

On my skin, back to back with Habit Rouge, with cost taken into account, they are so similar in every way that id go with Habit Rouge. Disappointed
