Not feminine at all. :-) Starting with slightly metallic citruses, it goes with orris root, patchouli and coumarin. Why they stopped? IDK. One of most fabulous fragrances ever. And the color... <3

miewtje

After multiple years of consideration i decided i wanted to go full bottle. I have a miniature of Iris Noir but i never commited because i was never sure I'd actually wear it. However, it is one of the most beautiful iris fragrances out there in my humble opinion so i decided to just get the thing since i could find it for a friendly price. It's a classy, perfumey, powdery iris in the softest way. Where guerlain's insolence is bright, playfull and sweet. Iris Noir is haunting, sheer and slightly bitter. I much preffer this one.

💜💜💜💜💜💜⚠️⚠️⚠️i suggest to gather all together and write a petition for yves rocher to make this perfume available again

My advice: don't blind buy, as I did :( , Blanc de Courreges hopping it'll be similar to Iris Noir.
To my nose they're like day and night.

Perpetual Collector

Now that I FINALLY have it, all I can say is: this stuff is beautiful.

Mona Lygre

I wrote here earlier, after 8th jour, this was my fav perfume for many years, and, of cause it had to be discontinued as well, it always happens to my beloved perfumes,

I was thinking this beauty was going to stay here as for ever, I don't really know if I'm luckier than my twin sister, she says; when I want to buy another product, it's not that the shop isn't there any longer - the whole house is gone....

So, I went searching high and low for a replacement for my "baby", I bought many "look-alike" perfumes, and in the bin they went, but, than I came across Blanc of Courreges, and, there it was!!!!

I have been pushing all the buttons to you "this perfume reminds me of...", still it's a "no"???, and also I would say that Autour de Minuit (got it) is a good plaster for Iris Noir. Or/and, proably I should try to mix Autour with Blanc??

bel.gravia

An iris, sweetened and spiced yet elevated.
The patchouli is big in this perfume, mingling with powdery iris. Vanilla is really really soft and not gourmand at all. The citruses are there reminding me of Shalimar...... vanilla citrus combination. No, Iris Noir and any Shalimar are not similar..... they just share resemblance for a brief moment. Iris Noir is not a black iris. It's iris in full bloom at the night time.

inherited a couple of bottles of this. smells like flowery licorice in a way. it's not bad

bobo1

So, so sad it's discontinued. Didn't find anything to replace it. Not buying scents from YR anymore. Whatever I try seams too sugary or watered down. Lost the interest☹.

CCClydes

Just received this one via online auction and solely based on reviews. I understand it’s discontinued. Upon first spray I wondered if it just wasn’t “my kind of scent.” It has this sharp sour opening that’s hard to get around but then after a few minutes it morphs into a very pretty floral than an hour later sits close to the skin and it’s very pretty. I’m not sure I’d call it unisex but maybe on the right guy. This is very unique and not like anything else in my fragrance collection that typically tends toward Amber’s but I may keep her and see where she leads. I’d call her a nighttime special event type scent, when you need something new and unique. For me anyway.

I received a sample of this and decided to wear it today. Right after I applied it I had an instant compliment on how wonderful I smelled. This perfume is quite nice. The fragrance has a dark edge to it. There is something haunting and mysterious about it. I find it to be fresh, smooth and well blended as well. So far, this and So Elixir Purple are my favorite scents from Yves Rocher. To my nose, it also smells very unisex. In my opinion, a man can pull this off with no problem. Definitely worth a try!

Phantomias

Oh my, what a beauty! The lack of color belies the intensity of this perfume: it's dark indeed and rich with precious spices. For some reason I can detect a woody note although none is listed.
I've never come across an iris in real life that smelled like this, I'd love to fill my garden with that variety.
Iris Noir is an incredible perfume and could work as a unisex. Yves Rocher makes very good affordable perfumes, and IR is a high end offering that can stand side by side with expensive French houses like Guerlain and Givenchy. As nearly always with YR frags, Iris Noir has only average sillage and longevity. The dry down is lovely, though, almost a little smoky.
I.R. is so much better than Rose Absolue, the second member of the trio. Maybe - hopefully - I'll have a chance to try the amber one.

mapache

FINALLY....received a 1 oz expensive bottle of this treasure today. I find this,in the beginning, to to have a Shalimar Parfum Initial vibe to it...but with a dash of patchouli...?? Then it goes to powdery iris with bergamot...??...well,at least to my eccentric nose.lol.
It is a really great scent !! However...sillage and longevity are LOW with this one...sadly...but I will still go on loving it!! Another great one that is sadly discontinued....This one is an A+ in my collection.

shahnazari

I wish it could get into the production line again :(

Mona Lygre

It was my favorite perfume, and I will gladly buy it again.

Venusia

This was the first scent I bought constantly and wore proudly in my thirties.
I always thought this would be the smell of an earthy godess.
Dark iris in the night rain, humid earth, patchouli, spicy herbs. Very special. I was so sad that it got discontinued, I refused to wear other scents for a few years back then.
My love for iris remained.

UnearthlyApothecary

This is a beautiful Iris scent, probably one of the best I have tried. It's also a beautiful use of patchouli. a deep dark twilight of Iris powder and earthy patchouli mustiness. The silage is not huge, kinda close to the skin but not terrible. I definitly agree that is is more of a floral woody then an oriental. The noir title suits this one, it's very unearthly and unique.
A similar scent to me is Karleidoscope just replace the Iris with violet.

scarlett.angel

Rediscovered this beautiful gem just in time for autumn. So glad I managed to buy a bottle for next to nothing 2 years ago. The prices on eBay are crazy! Like everyone else I'm sad it's been discontinued. I'd love to try the other YVES Rocher fragrances unfortunately they're not available in Australia. This is cold and unique, yet sweet on me and lasts for ages. Conjures up images of luxe goth blue velvet. A beautifully dark melancholic fragrance with a hint of sweetness, divine powdery feel is perfect to fall asleep to. Definitely like no other and suits my style perfectly. Bonus points for using natural ingredients.

gtabasso

if only it lasted; an iris that competes with Le Dix and Metallica; goes on a sharp, sweet iris floral then dries down with a nice vanilla/amber composition but fades so quickly; love the spiciness and patch

Katieg

Another one discontinued. My first spray of this I just thought 'wow'. It was like nothing else I'd ever smelt! The first smell was Tonka, overwhelming and I began to wonder where the iris was. But she appears, peeking behind Tonka and patchouli. Violet is the next, entwined in the base notes. I've never thought this was a 'polite' merge into the background scent. It's a statement, kooky off key and dare to be different. And I miss it, far more than Rose Absolu which is more like the filling of Beechs' Rose Creams than the flower.

OrientalFruityGourmand

Oooh that Iris is a real beauty! She is dark and seductive, woody and dreamy, voluptuous and authentic. But if I could make one tiny change, I would edit out the Coriander.

There is a bitter accord that develops in the beginning through middle from the coriander. On my skin this produces a strange bitterness that I dislike. This lasts only an hour before settling. Then it's perfect.

If only the coriander were not as prominent, I would wear this every night.

sweefa

When I'm in the right mood (which I am now) this beautiful fragrance just gives me everything. Feels like falling in slow motion into night blue velvet pillows. Like having a threesome with a glowing black royal Iris from some distant fairy land and a smooth earthy dark patch that tames her and keeps you safe from being abducted by her magic.
This EDP is so strong and super long lasting. I'm happy I have two full size bottles of this heavenly potion. Since they don't make them like this anymore. Literally.

ana hen

Darkest night at cold forest .I love iris -but in this perfume it's more solid ,metallic heavy and sweet but not dreamy sweet.

Not a perfume for blind buy.i agree about opening -like half hour it was enormous dry and not comfortable. But after I got very feminine classic fragrance.

Little drop of it at cold weather and open air not small work places:)

shushkin

Definitely a big patch hit on the opening but it soon settles down. I love the fact it is dark. The patch, iris and tonka dominate and its a gorgeous combination. The tonka adds a touch of sweetness. Im glad there is no carrot note for me. I agree that it just gets better over time. A moderate sillage and very good longevity. Its hard to imagine its by YR. Its more a niche fragrance for me. Maybe thats why it was discontinued.

Zetamamman

This used to feel like being strangled with a velvet glove. I loved it! Then something in my chemistry changed and it started smelling only sweet on my skin. Pleasantly sweet, but not nearly as interesting as it used to be.

Mooniq

Iris Noir opens with a punch of Patchouli on my skin, makes me sneeze. After 20 minutes its a lovely, warm and very female scent with Iris, Tonka and Ambrette dancing around me. In base I think its a light powdery note too. Very nice indeed!

zzzmk

expressive, but not for everyone!

It was lying unused in my mother's bathroom, so she allowed me to take it. Apparently he is gone in our offer. I use it recently and really like it, is heavy, clear, mysterious. This is not a smell that pleases everyone. The opinions of people around me are divided, for some interesting and beautiful, and for some, having something irritating. Impresses me the fact that, although the smell is floral, it does have such a dark, "night" note. Gently intoxicating. Perfectly with the elegant feminine outfit.

Lalionne

One of my favorite YR scents. It is on the darker side, but not overwhelming. Because of its oriental style, it is more of an evening scent than for daywear - although I do not think that it would offend anyone during the day. I was not aware of its discontinuation, and I am unpleasantly surprised: it has been on the market for only a couple of years! I wish I had bought a bigger bottle...

faubel

I haven't reviewed this perfume yet because it's somewhat indescribable and because it's discontinued. I went to some trouble to acquire a bottle from another continent after I smelled the mini that I snagged from ebay. Many thanks to my perfume friend in Luxembourg--I will be forever grateful to you Liz. <3

Iris and patchouli? I have an abundance of perfumes that feature those notes, but this one stands alone. I can't believe the beauty contained in this scent.

It's sweet, full, and rich, but not cloying.

I think perfection was achieved here, and my bottle will be treasured and savored.

icekat

It was a dark and stormy night when I stood in front of a cold castle with the gates decorated in Gothic ornaments of iris flowers intertwined with metal spikes and thistles. To walk in or not to walk in…This was the question. I took the plunge and when I walked inside, the castle turned out to be quite a nice place, a bit Gothic but comforting, elegant and in its own way charming. Iris Noir is like that - at first it is cold, dark and overpowering but the harsh opening hides a lovely scent inside.

So this is definitely a patchouli bomb at first. My hubby cannot stand the opening. I have to let it to settle for 10 min at least before he will let me anywhere near him. I love patchouli so I kind of dig this razor-sharp dark personality of Iris Noir but this is an acquired taste and not for everyone. The coriander also adds to its earthy darkness. When the scent settles in, it becomes quite beautiful and well-balanced. There is a seductive vibe from the patchouli which I find quite sensual intertwined with cool and regal iris. The heart notes are woody spicy with very smooth and sophisticated iris. It is a bit powdery but in a very luxurious way. The scent has a decent longevity and a medium sillage.

My advice – try before you buy. I personally find it quite sexy, but my hubby disagrees. I think for the price it is very well-made scent that has a unique personality. I also love the fact that it does not smell synthetic and generic like many modern scents from this price range. Overall score 7/10.

vintage_witch

this is such a sexy scent! my skin just loves this juice. when i wear it i get whiffs of salty black licorice and violets, i think the violets are really the iris but its way dirtier than im used to iris scents to be. the sweetness is balanced out perfectly by the salt licorice and a kinda inky note if that makes any sense? wicked fairies and a magical forest comes to mind when i wear this. sadly this is close to the skin on me, like the majority of perfumes are to be fair. however iris noir always gets noticed and is usually praised when im close to somebody. lasting power is not the best but acceptable. i have smelled this frag on two of my friends and its so different from how it developes on me. waaaaaaaaaaay sweeter, even cloying... try before buy! if you are lucky you will get that cold and sultry scent wich makes iris noir a must have in my collection. need to hunt down another bottle asap!

mirrorghost

at the outset I didn't like this. I think maybe the bergamot note was too strong and sharp. however, after about five minutes it's turned really nice and a bit sweeter. this reminds me of a less licorice-y Lolita lempicka in a way. it's a bit cleaner and less sweet. the longer I wear this the more I like it. it's a nice alternative to LL, as it seems to be mostly iris and patchouli and not as sweet or complex. this is a lovely scent and I'm so glad I finally got try it...I just wish it wasn't discontinued!

labradorite

The no.1 perfume for a night out when I want to be sexy. This fragrance is the perfect combination of deep dark floral sweetness, very seductive and sensual. I have a collection of perfumes I have especially for evenings, but ever since I bought Iris Noir I don't even look at the rest. Which is a pity, but on the upper hand that's the biggest compliment I can give to Yves Rocher.
Very long lasting and the sillage is great as well.

craftyminx

I could do without the bergamot in the opening. It makes the first few minutes of this scent screechy and sharp, like cheap laundry detergent. I love the iris and tonka in it, but the prominent patchouli note and the sharpness of the opening make it less than it could be.

citypark

Iris noir starts with bergamot, which trails along into the heart notes. Although IN starts quite strong it gets to a level of skin scent after a while. After 5 hours I can still smell the iris with some sweet notes, but only when I put my nose on my arm - I wish it was stronger. Patchouli had been out briefly in between, but had to return into its room. In the end I can get a bit of the tonka bean, but only so slightly.

I think it is definitely a nice perfume, but would deserve more sillage and longevity. Can be worn daily and in the office without offending anyone. It is not a fragrance I would wear for going out, for that IN is too shy. Perhaps IN will develop differently in a different season or under different circumstances, on verra.

crescentsho

Dark and dry.Gloomy and sad. I think it's just my chemistry. I keep trying to like it,but with that kind of effect, I will not use it before sleep.
Please try before buy! Don't blind buy!

jolieshirley

pravda48

For once I agree it IS noir! I'm w/ the people associating it w/ a dark witchy brew:

lots of (nice!) patchouli and musk
spicy tonka bean & coriander
earthy scented iris, smokey vs powdery (& my skin takes powder and runs wild w/ it, so I love this difference)
there IS some sort of blackberry nuance in here that is especially noticeable by just sniffing the sprayer. Doesn't come out on my skin so much, but it's definitely there.

ALMOST smoky, but not quite... it does 'haunt' my nose for a second w/ its spicy smoky floral goodness after sniffing close.

EDIT TO ADD: I love love love falling asleep to this smell. I know it's probably too pricey to buy just for that purpose now that it's discontinued but mmmm... I feel like it's a perfect sleepy time, dusky, relaxing but entrancing fragrance.

With that said I DON'T SEE HOW PEOPLE FIND THIS DEPRESSING! It's BEAUTIFUL! <3

meganinstmaxime

This is a very light iris fragrance - not really sure why it's got Noir in the title. It is an easy iris for those who can't wear the strong, powerful iris perfumes e.g. Iris Silver Mist and the ilk (and obviously not in the same league as these). It is not however as sweet as Silver Iris from Atelier. Iris Noir does contain the sweet, lighter version of patchouli in here as well and with the tonka bean creates a sort of syrupy fragrance but in quite a transparent manner. I think it's an OK everyday perfume, one of those scents to wear when you're not sure what to put on. Would recommend this as an office scent as well. The good thing about Yves Rocher - let's face it, is the perfumes are pretty cheap and I actually got this one for free from them. They are pretty good with their freebies and discounts. The best one I've tried from their range though is Voile d'Ambre. That is a great, cuddly, warm amber.

PricklyAndHot

Pleasant iris fragrance.

Usually I like the iris note only in the old fragrances, where it smells very noble.

But I like this modern fragrance with iris. It smells dark, but it's light fragrance. It smells quite intriguing. And luckily the iris note here doesn't smell dust or carrot.

A good choice for the iris note lovers.

drugstore classics

Very, very pretty!

Although I find this fragrance entirely too sweet for summer ( my hot weather IRIS choice would be the fresh and almost herbal Yardley Iris ), it is both straightforward and charming. A hard fragrance to dislike in the dead of winter, provided sweet patchouli florals do not disagree with you.

What a pity Yves Rocher has discontinued Iris Noir here in the US, while instead promoting the considerably less interesting So Elixir.

Another ( sweet ) purple patchouli fragrance worth trying is Avon's Imari Seduction. Seduction has an added smoky note that is remarkably appealing, similar to a sweet tobacco aura. A budget beauty to sample before it too is discontinued!!!

gentiana

I don't feel this fragrance as particularly "Noir". I am puzzled that some of the reviewers associate it to gothic, dark, scary things.
Seems as many humans are very suggestable to perfume names and the color of the liquid itself... I find it a very soft, polite and somehow not-so-grown-up Iris scent (compared to Chanel no 19, Equistrius, Bois d'Iris from TDC or even Inf. D'Iris Prada)
For me, it is comfort and "politically correct" scent, for the days I don't feel able to wear any of the bold, statement-making perfumes I own, or when I can't decide between chypres-florals-gourmands-woodsy-powdery-ambery-musky. When I meet at the office or in town people whose tastes I don't know and It is risky to schock them.
Good in not-so-cold fall days. It is the "rescue exit" when I am undecided and in a hurry, together with Calvin Klein's Truth, Gucci Flora, as a few of the Aqua allegorias' are in the Summer, Max Mara EDP for cooler days and Bois Vanille from Lutens in the winter.
Nice, cozy, harmless.

clairele

This made me realise that I don't like iris notes!
The first time I wore Iris Noir, I was playing a video game where my character had to wander around a big area full of trapped spirits, ruined buildings, restless skeletons. It was all very drab, grey and foggy. The atmosphere was full of despair.
THAT place really suited Iris Noir in my opinion!
The scent has a musty feel to it that really matched the grey, dusty ground and the mysterious mist.
This perfume is really dark, like its name suggests and I still think it is an interesting, quality perfume, for iris lovers...

picasso_x

It's classy and elegant. It's sweet but not sugary, powdery and dark Iris, mystery scent. It's very good smell, I love it. Long lasting is more than 6 hours. So fantastic scent on my skin.Good job YVES ROCHER.

Laura8572

As I am smelling this right now, I still don't know what to think of it! I have a cold and a head ache at the moment, and this perfume is kind of making it worse..
If I had to describe the smell: Strong and dark. But I can't figure out if that's in the positive way..It kind of smells like violet candy? And it's also a perfume for older women. (I'm 16, this perfume is not for me) I guess for women from age 25-45..I also smell a little vanilla in the dry down. Even though it's a very dark, mysterieus gothic kind of perfume, it's also very warm and spicy.. Godd, this is such a complicated perfume! Guess I should wear it tomorrow and hear other people their reactions to ir..

kakamelia

I've tried it today, ca 12 hours ago, and I can still find the place where I sprayed it, so the longevity is quite fine. It was kind of love for a first sniff. But I wouldn't call it noir, rather white;)To me it smells like washing powder or bath foam, like when you enter the laundry or some spa:). It smells the same for all 12 hours, but I'm not a perfume expert, so I can't say if I smell Iris or patch. After one hour after spray of it, I could feel a bit headache, but I always have to get used to wear new fragrance, so I know I will be able to wear it after slowly using with small dosage day by day. I am definitely decided that the Iris noir will be my next buy.

MsJitka

I finally tried it. I was surprised how strong and really gourmet Iris Noir is. It's really beautiful but not suitable for younger women who usually prefer lighter scents. But I appreciate that there is such an uncommon scent in Yves Rocher and that I had the opportunity to try how iris really smells like. Longevity is great, sillage very good.

stormyla

I've been wearing this fragrance for several days now trying to make my mind up about it. Iris Noir is unlike any other scent that I've tried. There is something extremely compelling about it.

It has a dark earthy muskiness about it. Like a number of other reviewers, I get a strong impression of blackberries, which I like. Certainly there are more notes involved than what are listed here as this seems to be a fairly complex composition.

Iris Noir is definitely fruity, spicy, earthy, warm and dark with an alluring but not overwhelming sweetness. I love the combination of Patchouli, Bergamot & Iris. I sense absolutely nothing powdery here, I'd say it's more syrupy or boozy. Practically speaking, I can't see this as being an everyday scent, but it would be nice to have a larger bottle in my rotation.

The only disappointment in my bottle of EDP is the sillage. After about 2 hours this becomes a skin scent on me. That's probably a good thing as a friend told me they did not like the scent on me. That friend is not in the habit of making such comments. However, I enjoy the intrigue and comfort of the fragrance, so it's a nice one to wear at home.

Also,I have noticed that Iris Noir seems to come alive in the outdoors. It's been raining and windy for 2 days here and the fragrance seems to respond well to those conditions.

The fragrance does linger a long time, 10 hours or more. If I can find a good buy on Iris Noir, I will probably add it to my collection! I believe that this fragrance is discontinued as I couldn't find it on the Yves Rocher website. There is a fair amount of it for sale on Ebay and Amazon.

bleuciel

It smells warm, deep and rich. Opulent. Syrupy, but not sugar sweet. Heavy. Floral with something deep that doesn't make it too floral or too something else. I honestly cannot smell any of the distinctive ingredients listed, but the feeling is of a rich luxurious perfume. Well blended ingredients. Perfect for the colder months or if you have the right attitude. It's imposing and strong, although the sillage is moderate.
It's the kind of perfume that if sprayed too much can be headache inducing. Most luxury designer perfumes fall in this category for me, unfortunately.
I have Iris Noir on one wrist and Voile D'Ambre on the other. Iris Noir smells so much better, but given its high potential to headaches I think I prefer the amber one.
I understand it will be discontinued soon (you can only get it as EDP in 50 ml and deodorant in my neck of the woods).

boutlagh

strong fresh spicy deep powdery perfume that's hard to incounter everywhere, simply because it's a sort of unconventional "overpowering" and "dark" and "sirupy" scent. The word "elixir" describes well the perfume because there is something misterious and intimidating about it. this gem I would recomend to people who don't wear a perfume because it's "in fashion", or because "it smells young" or "fresh".This is something for people who love to wear "good" perfumes regardless the brand they are. Unfortunately it has been discontinued (wish they'll bring it back).

BikiniBabe

Really not bad for a non signature perfume. Complex and well blended. I have no complaints really. The fragrance is delightful and elegant and the staying power and sent trail is fairly good. Thumbs up Yves Rocher!

U can follow me on YouTube @ BeautyOnSale

djuzz.becuzz

I had it a long time ago, to me it surely was mysterious and dark... IMO it was the best of the secrets d'essences line... unfortunately I found that it is discontinued here... such a shame...

robbinthehood

I'm not sure about this perfume. Some moments I find it really sweet and feminine, but there are moments I feel like it's almost masculine and a bit harsh. Maybe that's the noir side to this scent?
This is a perfume I really have to be in the mood for to wear it and I couldn't wear it daily. I'm not even sure it fits me.
On the right person this would be a very elegant and mysterious perfume. Wouldn't call it sexy, though.

Edit: I've got this perfume a while now, and I've really grown to love it. Right now I could wear it daily, but unfortunately I've got a small bottle and the perfume is discontinued in my country. :(

Cybernoir

S'wonderful!
S'marvelous!

Musky with that special organic muskiness of ambrette, a kind of vegetal muskiness, like a garden, this narcotic fragrance is rich in musky ambrette, iris, tonka bean and patchouli. Warm, earthy, powdery from the iris. Very much like iris in situ, earthy, furtive and reticent, with a closely guarded scent that drives bees and some humans wild. But, do not fool yourselves! However lovely I feel that I smell wearing Iris Noir,I have resigned myself to the realization that this one may be reminiscent of the past: vintage, powdery, loamy.

Truly iris, truly noir, this is a patchouli rich spring floral with good projection and silage.

rickyrebarco

I am normally an Yves Rocher lover and I adore iris notes. Surprisingly, though, I did not enjoy this scent. It came on initially gothic and dark, heavy on the musk and patchouli. Then as it dried down when I hoped the spices would warm it up it became a dark bitter scent. Fortunately I only bought a tiny sample bottle.

After a couple of hours the bitterness finally went away to some degree but the darkness and dank gloom remained. This seems to be what some poor doomed woman waiting in a tower for the guillotine would wear. It's that depressing to me.

I so wanted to love this as I love my other iris scents but I just don't think this iris and patchouli were meant to be together. The spices make it worse. Their stars got crossed in this scent and the result was not good on my skin.

rosembloom

I am loving Iris Noir tonight . The rich patch, spices ( I too smell coriander , clove and a peppery scent) warm up the senses with rich tonka bean accents. I would imagine violets, plums, amber and vanilla orchids but I get very little of the starker Iris note I recognize in Yvatis Iris. It is smoother, superbly balanced and I am amazed at it's longevity. Yves Rocher has come a long way! I recognize the similarity between this one and Imari Seduction only imagine I.S. as a grape tinged version which unfortunately does not last long on me. Props to Y.R. for this one, Neonatura, So Elexir, and Voile d'Ambre. They are excellent in my opinion and my collection would seem bare without them. They also layer beautifully...

To me this scent is a flower, fresh and intense. With a warm woody background. A little spicy too.

I find it sensual, but not sexy. I do not find it dark, or noir. Not bitter, not powdery. I experience no gloominess, nor mystery, happy to do without those!

I enjoy wearing and smelling this tasty, ravishing flower.

loonad

i saw this again in the y rocher brochures-i will order another bottle of this.my bff has been wearing this lately and i keep smelling her around.feeling v nostalgic.just love this one.

perfumereviewer

This is an old school masterpiece. Classicaly arranged and well balanced, a good example of harmonic ingredients: nothing too much, nothing to little. Surprisingly enough, I am satisfied with the lasting power too. I did't expect it, especially because it is nowhere near black orchid or womanity BUT it's enough. After Guerlain's Shalimar interpretation of Iris perfume, I thought that noone can throne the Iris as majestic as Shalimar does...and I still think so, hahahaha! Still Iris noir shows a kind face of the Iris, a humble and pleasant sweet Iris. It is not noir in my oppinion, as it's not dark enough, and I would wear this all year round on any occasion, casual or not.
An overall classic balmy hugging scent and a steal for the price. I definitelly reccomend it!

LoisAyres

wow - very different! like reviewer said before, dark and witchy - sexy. I love it! Blackberry is there, but not overpowering, patchouli, tonka bean, spicy and a bit of metallic coldness. Awesome - really well done, especially for the price!!

Anissa

Extremely feminine, dark and mysterious fragrance.I can smell the patchouli, tonka bean and dark iris. This is suitable for night time, fall and winter. Smells a lot more expensive than it really is.Somehow it reminds me of Guerlains Shalimar, but without the citrus note.Lovely masterpiece.

loonad

i had it some years back.a really witchy perfume, this belongs to a very feminine, powerful woman who has a bit of a dark side.lovely..

KateAnette

I quite like this one, even though it's nothing i normally would wear. I get A LOTTTTT of spices in this, and patchouli. I don't know what real iris smells like, but i can't find any florals here. Sillage and longevity both great.

missk

Surprising is the depth and complexity that can be found in this rather inexpensive yet fascinating fragrance, Iris Noir. I've had quite a few friends point me in the direction of Yves Rocher, in particular their Secrets d'Essences range, and only now am I thankful for their suggestions. This brand is quality despite what anyone says.

Iris Noir is a lot darker than I expected it to be. The patchouli and tonka bean accords are quite thick and dense. As a result, Iris Noir does smell a tad masculine, but in a way that it is likable for both sexes.

Although iris is supposedly the feature note, I find orris root to be more spot on. Any floral accords in Iris Noir have been darkened by powder, earthy patchouli and musk, further complimented by a unique carrot seed note.

It's quite important to wait this fragrance out, as what you initially smell may be enough to bring out the soap and scrubbing brush. I applied Iris Noir to both my wrists and neck, and for the first few minutes sat there feeling a little paranoid that I had stunk out the rest of the house. Be warned, the sillage is strong.

Along with the brooding orris root, patchouli and carrot seeds, there was an underlying hint of grapes and plums. It's nothing like a fruity floral, yet these strange notes intensify the composition and add a juicy richness. I think that Iris Noir makes a fabulous night-time scent, something that really suits formal attire, or even that sleazy nightclub. In my opinion, it could become a little overwhelming for daytime wear.

I'm the kind of girl that likes her iris based scents dry and/or green, but this little number deserves a category of its own. I am thoroughly impressed. Now I can't wait to explore Yves Rocher further.

curiousheart

This is a sweet, woody, cool and elegant scent. The colour purple fits it perfectly, since the one thing that comes to my mind when smelling this is cool, moist midnight.. a flabbed white way in the middle of a lush wet meadow with exotic flowers.
There's something slighty bitter or acrid in it that has the potential to cause you a headache if overapplied. On the other hand it also gives the scent some depth, a new dimension to its inital sweet nature.
I'm very satisfied with the sillage of the frag- it's thankfully not a skin scent. It also lasts pretty long.

Maeva

I also find this is a very gothic fragrance, full of that mysterious dark feel I miss so much in Jesús del Pozo’s Halloween. It smells decadent in a strangely alluring way.

What I detect the most in Iris Noir is a powdery-metallic violet note. It surprises me that violet is not listed among its notes, as I notice it much more than the smell of iris, present as one of the heart notes according to the YR site.

Iris Noir can be as light, vibrant and icy cold as it is a warm, slightly spicy floriental. So depending on which of these qualities you prefer to highlight, you can wear it in summer or in cooler weather. But it definitely smells classy whenever you wear it, that’s for sure.

arubadream

After several tries I gave up.

I'm the kind of person that hates anything with Tonka beans and patchouli, I can't stand both of them and I would probably never will.

For me, Iris Noir is quite deep, dark, mysterious and bitter; I found the opening very medicinal and a bit spicy. The right word to describe Iris Noir should be "gloomy"; It's like watching/ reading dark comedy like "a series of unfortunate events" or to watch a film like "a nightmare before Christmas" or "Sleepy Hollow"

It's definitely not for everyday wear since I find it too strong and overpowering. Iris Noir may be considered by others to be elegant and classy but I guess everyone has different taste, Iris Noir is the opposite from "my kind" of elegance.

very Long lasting about 10 hours with great sillage...but it's not wearable for me, I don't want to wear anything that smells bitter and uneasy on the nose.

The Swedish girl

What can I say about Iris Noir... Patchouli mixed with an odeur of stale urine? I don`t know what note it is that creates the urine feel, but it`s horrific.

A nice powdery violet is trying to break through, but it doesn`t stand a chance.

Great sillage and longevity, but I`ll pass.

happykitty

Generally don't enjoy floral scents (cause most of the time, they smell nothing like the real flower) but this one is irresistible. Deeply sensual and just perfect for winter.

birdsson

I got this parfume 3 years ago, I didn't like it at all. I can't say this fragrance for old woman and also I can't say it's for girls, seems like it doesn't fit anyone. I lost this parfume one day and I can say I am not sorry for that at all, it's good that it was like a present from Yves Rocher and I didn't spend any money. If I wouldn't lose it, Iris would stay non-touched for ages.

BearysHoney

I also got this as a freebie from Yves Rocher when I ordered more of their Voile de Ambre perfume that I love (cant find that one on here btw). Didn't love it at first but it grew on me a bit. Still wouldn't say it's a favorite scent but it's not bad for the days I want to change up my perfume and have something light and lingering. I would say this is more of an "evening", date-night/night out type scent though

Beeb26

I love Iris Noir. It's a fragrance that smells a lot like "Daddy-O shampoo" from Lush. It's so great to have a perfume that smells like this! But Daddy-O is a shampoo based on violets, so that's what I smell in Iris noir. It's nice, deep and sweet. There's something fresh in it too. It's not overwhelming. Lasting power is good.

Edit: It is a mixture of "Daddy-O" and "Tramp" from Lush. Very, very nice. I love it!

Tigerlillian

Iris Noir opens beautifully with a luminous soft, peppery, violet aura--a little metallic and bitter courtesy of coriander, which I think adds some really wonderful interest to an already intriguing floral note in the world of perfume.

As Iris Noir develops, a translucent sweetness rises to the surface, like a slightly tart blackberry scent as lafefe notes below. I dare say that I also detect a nuance of rose.

Tonka is fairly subtle and adds a little hay-like earthiness, complimenting the perfectly pitched patchouli which gives the base a little woody texture. Styrax (benzoin) adds to the warm, but glassy sweetness in the base with its vanilla-like character.

Overall, a unique, crytalline presentation of enigmatic iris. I think the transparency of this perfume makes it suitable in all weather, although for the warmer months, perhaps just in the evening; in the crisp, winter months, I think it will truly shimmer with brilliance.

justlikehoney

Perfect for winter but badly for summer.
I can feel Warm Dark,Sweet,Expensive,Feminine
Contemporary scent and Very Long Lasting (more than 10 hr. on my skin)

Habanita

I got this as a free gift by YR. First I thought it's a nice nightime scent and could be interesting. But with the drydown there was a harsh note on me that was almost masculine that I gave it away.

melbritt24

May I just say...I chose this scent for today and it never fails to make me feel sexy and confident! One of my favorites for life! Just a stunning, balanced fragrance with great longevity and sillage. Perfect for day or night!

BOLD SWEET AND CONTEMPORAY
***************************
Iris Noir is a sweet smelling perfume whcih delivers WOW factor from the first initial smell, I (personally) smell rose and Amber in this but it's not listed so maybe its just my nose.
If you wear this perfume you will get noticed, its not subtle by any means! x

lafefe

I tested it yesterday without knowing the right composition, it's been a funny exercise but...
What I smelt was:
Top notes: pepper and citrus
Heart: rose, blackberry
Base note: iris and tonka.

Now that I see the list I understand how my nose was distant from the real olfactory pyramid but I'm pretty sure there are blackberries and roses in Iris Noir. To me it's fresh and fruity, spiced in the opening and very light. It's a luminous iris, although the name suggests "noir". It disappears completely after a few hours, it's the perfect fragrance for a day out in springtime, it makes me feel like walking across a meadow watching the first trees to come into blossom.

Annelien1987

I really like this, it's so sexy and mysterious.

melbritt24

First may I just say that I love Yves Rocher products!

I bought the Yves Rocher Iris Noir and Voile d'Amber in the travel size mini bottle to try them and love them both!

Iris Noir is earthy and dries down to a smoky, warm scent that lingers nicely. I plan to buy a large spray bottle of this soon. It is a very French fragrance.

Liina

Iris Noir is very dark scent, it even has gothic darkness to it. It's more of a night-time scent because it's dark and seductive spicy sweetness.
I understand all the praise here, it's a really beautiful perfume but just not my cup of tea.

camillia

It is a soft fragrance. Soft and powdery. Quiet and hauntingly dreamy: Ok, now I'm visiting a gothic castle, I close my eyes, a shadow passes...

sherapop

I am genuinely surprised at how good Yves Rocher IRIS NOIR is. This complex, modern chypre floral lies somewhere on the iris perfume line between Hermes HIRIS and Prada INFUSION D'IRIS, being less feminine than the latter and more feminine than the former.

The carroty earthiness I love in HIRIS is present here, too, but toned down quite a bit. At the same time, there is enough iris to make this seem a floral cousin to the Prada offering, albeit a much less powdery and considerably darker one. Perhaps what is really the secret to this composition's success is the ambrette alluded to by Marianne. Whatever the case, this mélange is a delight to my nose!

IRIS NOIR has great longevity and smells better and better as it develops and warms up on the skin. I like this perfume very much and am definitely going to look into acquiring a full bottle.

On a final, mundane note, I'd like to point out to the smart shoppers out there that the regular price per milliliter of this creation is actually higher than either HIRIS or INFUSION D'IRIS. But YR has ridiculous sales and offers going on all of the time, so I'll take advantage of one of those...

Matin

I think that this perfume is not an oriental floral. For my it is a floral Chypre without big innovations but good solved for the lovers of this type of perfumes .
It is not too intense at least in my skin, but certainly it is not for my. It was waiting for the oriental one probably with iris!!! And slightly darker.

Jillzilla

I find the chypre components in this a little too sharp for my chemistry. The carrot seeds and coriander are doing me in! On the right person, this would be gorgeous!

soniamcalear

Thanks to my friend Gypsy Perfumemista I acquired this wonderful scent, thanks John! Medicine type of smell. I love it!!! I don't know what gives it the medicine cabinet scent but this has it. Its what Hallie Berry's Scent has and so does Encore by Alfred Sung. The dry down is dark and seductive. Its along the lines of some of DKNY scents, dark and very sexy like. Nice scent!!!

Action

Our lovely Chat is loving this one very much!! From the Secret Essences range it is my least favorite, but if I do not compare it to it's sisters, I must admit it is quite classy!

Carnelian

I find this to be a very classy, beautiful perfume. More "mature," (or old fashioned, I suppose) the younger set might have trouble appreciating it. Goes on just slightly bitter, but quickly becomes a balanced, powdery iris - gorgeous, really. Just slight sharp woody & green. After about 30 minutes, the patchouli comes out firmly, but (to me) does not completely overpower the florals, although it isn't subtle. I guess that's where the "Noir" comes in, it's really on the lighter (not much punch), dry side. Okay for day, but "dressy" enough for a summer night out. Lasts pretty well on me, about half the day without needing a freshener. By the end of wear, gets sweeter & MUCH more powdery, but I still smell iris. You can get a full bottle of this as cheap as $30 during the many Yves Rocher promotions, and it is WELL worth the price!

calevacin

It's a very unique, very distinct scent.
The opening notes are surprisingly tangy and violet clearly stands out. It's a freshly cut violet very beautiful, very wild.
And then, of course the iris, which rounds this flowery heart.
There's no sweetness at all, the base is clearly woody so it has deepness but it manages to retain an "airy" feeling.

Powdery? I don't think so, that's why I can see no similarity with Kenzo Flower.
However, I agree with Malegria when she says that it's similar to Chopard's Wish; if you could remove from Wish the plum, the vanilla, the caramel and all the gourmand fireworks what you would have left is the clean light of Iris noir.

It's an eau de parfum so the lasting power is very good, both on clothes and on my skin in my case.
If you like layering, the diferent scents in the Secrets d'Essences collection mix very well together and you can successfully play with the body lotions and the perfumes of this range.

I've finished my first bottle and I've worn it mainly at work, as long as you don't spray too much it'll be fine.

mister_chaz

i wasn't particularly impressed by this one: tonka bean and patchouli were the good parts here, i also get some ambery notes, expressing its "noir" bit... but alongside there is this chemical sugary note which ruins everything. I don't know whether it's my chemistry, but this fragrance becomes unpleasantly sweet on me, which totally overshadows all the good parts. I don't find it fresh, more fruity floral, somewhat tart and artificial. Sorry, doesn't work for me at all.

Update: at the dry-down the sweetness went away which is good. but along with it the "darkness" also somewhat vanished and the scent became ordinary.

Sissi

My first impression the Bergamot is good
the Frankincense is a another goodie
i don't detect the Carrot seeds
the patchouli very light this smells
similar to Kenzo Flower but less powderly. a sweet tangy scent very sultry.

AmberLove

The first time almost a year ago, when I tested this one on my wrist I just detested it. But after reading reviews here I decided to give it another try...so I ordered a miniature of Iris Noir...I gave it some time, when the scent developed on my skin, after the drydown I kind of liked it, so I am now sampling this for the third day and I must say that I really like it. It reminds me of a vintage fragrance. I find it a quite mature scent, its dark but velvety more for cold days. But still in this range I like Voile Ambre, Tendre Jasmin and Rose Absolue the most. It indeed reminded me a bit of Ck Euphoria.
The patchouli and tonka bean combination is very nice...I realised that I like most scents which have tonka bean in the base.
This smell is worth a try, just give it some time...it smell definately expensive!

Thanks to Fragrantica and its members I learned to judge fragrances in a better way. A big Thank You!!!

tommy_girl

this is a surprise by Yves Rocher.I never thought I would like it,but the truth is,it matches my chemistry very well and I can't recognize any of the notes which are listed here.(that's why I like it)
it starts with fresh, but dark and mysterious notes.it should have something to do with Calvin Klein perfumes.because to me it's like a mixture of Euphoria and Obsession Night.but it's even better than them!
today I applied a little of my tester on my wrist and when I left my room,my sister immediately asked me for the name of perfume.surprising point is that she's a fan of all of CK perfumes.
I can't describe it via the notes and I suggest you to forget it completely.to me it's dark, sour and powdery with a hint of fruits.
the reason I was curious to sniff this perfume was that I have orris Noir by Ormande Jayne and I wanted to see if they smell similar(because of similarity in names).but I have to say they have nothing in common.Orris noir is much more spicier, while this one is fruity-powdery.I should confess that it matches my chemistry better.

Uni Mihaela

Absolutely the best frangrance I've ever encountered! Brings the frangrance of the interwar or the Belle Epoque periods. It's unbelievable how you can get in touch with how the people of those days felt and thought just by enjoying this perfume. A great achievement for Yves Rocher!

kajsakatt

If you like spicy perfumes you must try this!

kutyafina

I love this scent so much. It's dark and sweet on me.So so feminine!

ruxxy

I first tried this one on paper and I couldn't stop sniffing, it was so classy, distinctive, not sweet, but warm and a bit harsh, very iris-y. A few days later I got a wet napkin scented with Iris Noir. Ohhh, i had to wash it right away because, on my skin, it turned from a fresh and pleasant scent into something suffocating that gave me stomach aches. So I guess this one depends a lot on the skin type. You should give it a try.

NebraskaLovesScent

This is my second review of this scent. I gave Iris Noir another chance after a few months had passed, and I'm pleased to report it's much better this time. It's categorized as an oriental spicy on here. Perhaps. It seems like more of a floral woody fragrance to me. Iris dominates, but the woody base notes linger and are much more pleasant this time around. I detect a slightly sweet, almond "play-doh" kind of note several hours into the dry-down. Something in Iris Noir reminds me of the pleasant woody floral musk of Avon Abynsthe.

I'm not sure why this one was so sour and stinky on me the first time around, but Iris Noir is a gentle reminder to me that all fragrances deserve a second or third chance before they're written off entirely. I would give it three stars this time around (on a scale of one to five stars). Not especially unique or wonderful, but pleasant enough for daily wearing.

Malegria

I wore it to bed yesterday...It is quite something! Can`t say it`s a very original one or it will stay with us through generations, but definitely a nice one.The fresh opening of coriander greens and bergamot (carrot seed gives it a little seriousness) gradually changes...I like this part - it lingers before it turns into patchouli and tonka bean veil, with a powdery finish. The heart, the iris is the iris of art nuveau - exotic, spicy, Tiffany-glass iris!Fully developed, it made me think of Wish - of course,it is not that sweet, but you can easily trace their similarities.

katyas

I just love this scent - it is dark yet smooth, intense without being overpowering. It lasts a good long time on my skin - at least 5 or 6 hours - and despite the fact that generally I detest the smell of coriander, it blends in perfectly with the rest of the scent.

NebraskaLovesScent

I really liked this one at first. It was a fruity-powdery-floral that was quite pleasant for the first hour or so. As it dried down, it took on an unusual sour/bitter note, like stale flowers rotting in the vase. :-( Might have been the coriander, although that's not usually a scent I have a problem with. At any rate, I recommend sampling this one prior to purchase.

SPOILEDnose

very classic, this yves rocher fragrance is like so many times something for "over 50`s" :D
Very intense, caution: headache maybe!
Not fresh at all, for going to the opera ore something like this, NOT unique...well to me...maybe "over 50`s" thinkin different ;D

sandrina_bambina

Elegant and classy, stays long on my skin, more than a 5 hours till now, I think, and it's still intensive. Transparent and fresh on the same beginning with darker and intoxicating powdery iris in the heart of fragrance. Background balsamic and woody notes make perfect balance with iris chords. I hope it would be best in winter, on very cold weather. Feminine, deep, beautiful!

jeca

This fragrance is very realistic woody powdery iris, which is black indeed. Elegant, classy scent.

Marianne

This is quite similar to the first two, but there is a bit of a sweet, fresh note as well. (ambrette grains I should think) . Also, it is darker than rose absolue and less ambery than voile d'ambre. Hope I could help you.
