ISU World Figure Skating Pairs Champions Wenjing Sui/Cong Han (CHN), World Ice Dance silver medalists Victoria Sinitsina/Nikita Katsalapov (RUS) and ISU European Figure Skating Champion Sofia Samodurova (RUS) will compete in their first Grand Prix event at Shiseido Cup of China in Chongqing this week, the fourth of six events in the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series. Skate America Champion Anna Shcherbakova (RUS) and Cheng Peng/Yang Jin (CHN) as well as Internationaux de France silver medalists Madison Chock/Evan Bates (USA) hope to qualify for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in Torino (ITA).

Sui/Han (CHN), Sinitsina/Katsalapov (RUS), Tuktamysheva (RUS) lead line-up at Cup of China

The Men’s event looks open with medals up for grabs. Skate Canada bronze medalist Keiji Tanaka (JPN) is aiming at another podium finish and possible qualification for the ISU Grand Prix Final. Two-time ISUWorld Figure Skating bronze medalist Boyang Jin (CHN), 2018 ISU Grand Prix Finalist Keegan Messing (CAN), 2018 ISU Grand Prix Final bronze medalist Junhwan Cha (KOR) and 2019 ISU European bronze medalist Matteo Rizzo (ITA) all missed the podium in their first event and hope to do better in Chongqing. Han Yan (CHN) returns to competition after sitting out the past season.

ISU World Junior Figure Skating silver medalist Anna Shcherbakova (RUS) and 2015 ISU World Figure Skating Champion Elizaveta Tuktamysheva (RUS) are looking to secure their spot for the ISU Grand Prix Final after taking gold and bronze respectively at Skate America. Young You (KOR) comes with a bronze medal from Skate Canada and has a chance to qualify for Torino as well. Two-time ISU World Figure Skating medalist Satoko Miyahara (JPN) and 2019 ISU European Figure Skating Champion Sofia Samodurova (RUS) are entering their first ISU Grand Prix event this season and are aiming at the podium as well.

Two-time and reigning ISU World Figure Skating Champions Wenjing Sui/Cong Han (CHN) headline the Pairs event and enter their first ISU Grand Prix. Competition should come from Skate America Champions Cheng Peng/Yang Jin (CHN), 2018 ISU Grand Prix Finalists Nicole Della Monica/Matteo Guarise (ITA) and 2018 ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships bronze medalists Tae Ok Ryom/Ju Sik Kim (PRK). Other contenders include Liubov Ilyushechkina/Charlie Bilodeau (CAN), 2018 ISU Four Continents Champions Tarah Kayne/Danny O’Shea (USA) and Alisa Efimova/Alexander Korovin (RUS).

Skate America bronze medalists Laurence Fournier Beaudry/Nikolaj Sorensen (CAN) hope for another podium finish while 2018 ISU Four Continents Champions Kaitlin Hawayek/ Jean-Luc Baker (USA) want to improve from their fourth-place finish from Skate Canada. Other competitors include Shiyue Wang/Xinyu Liu (CHN) and 2018 ISU World Junior Figure Skating Champions Anastasia Skotpcova/Kirill Aleshin (RUS).

Overall, 60 skaters/couples representing 11 ISU members compete at Shiseido Cup of China November 8-10. The top 6 qualifiers of the Grand Prix series in each discipline will proceed to the Final in Torino (ITA), December 5 to 8, 2019.
