Film and TV productions shooting in B.C. have given a local food bank a huge helping hand to ensure that some of the region's most vulnerable citizens don't go hungry this Thanksgiving.

The Greater Vancouver Food Bank and the Directors Guild of Canada, B.C., along with industry partners, launched the Reel Thanksgiving Challenge on September 28, in which teams from locally-based productions competed to see who could raise the most money for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.

Last year, the Man in the High Castle won.

This year, Supernatural, now shooting its 14th season, came out on top by raising a whopping $40,592. For raising $32,518.75 today (October 5), the team also won $1,000 contributions each from Martini Film Studios and Sunbelt Rentals, as well as a $5,000 contribution from IATSE for raising the most funds in one day over the course of the challenge.

They were followed by The Good Doctor (filming Season 2) with $33,632, and a new production, The Twilight Zone (Season 1), with $12,430.

The total amount raised this year was $195,717, which exceeded the goal of $150,000.

The record amount raised was set in 2017 with $207,787.73.

Other teams that made the top 10 were The Magicians, Supergirl, A Million Little Things, Deadly Class, Snowpiercer, The Kaslan Project, and When Calls the Heart.
