The royal family was kept in the dark about the Duke of York’s decision to give a tell-all television interview about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

Except for the Queen, who is understood to have been told before the interview took place at Buckingham Palace on Thursday, senior members of the royal family, including Prince Charles, were not informed until “very late in the day”.

Andrew’s decision is said to have bemused members of the royal family and courtiers throughout the households. “Nobody in the family seems to know much about it,” said a source.
