/ 02.02.2011 In Turkey, the respect for the remarkable characters of history is above all, even above the imagination of the filmmakers. Dozens of people were out on the streets demanding the removal from the TV post of a Turkish series, which is presenting the private life of Sultan Suleiman the Great. The film generated a true national fury.
It’s national riot in Turkey because of this series! A fiction, say the producers! Lack of respect for private life of the great Sultan Suleiman, shouted in chorus tens of thousands of ordinary people, accountable government and audiovisual representatives.
Halit Ergenç, who played Onur in the hit series "1001 of Nights", broadcasted by Kanal D Romania, plays the role of the great sultan. His wife and mother in the series are known to the Romanian public from the series "Secret love" and the sister of the Sultan's is well-known from "Asi. Against destiny." Both series broadcasted by Kanal D Romania
Revolt of the tens of thousands of people is generated by the fact that the movie is displaying to its audience the harem of Suleiman. The whole series is based on the romance between the Sultan and his concubine, Hurrem.
Around 70 000 people have sent letters of protest against the TV series even after the first episode was broadcasted. They don’t want to see fiction scenes based on the private life of the great sultan. There is, however, something that has more outraged the protesters! Sultan Suleiman is consuming alcohol in one of the scenes, something totally forbidden by Islam.
Supreme Council for Radio and Television has officially warned Show TV station: "In this movie we understand that Sultan Suleiman was more concerned with his concubines, than with the history of the Ottoman Empire. And this is outrageous!" said a Turkish official.
