Meltem Cumbul talks about Yigit Ozsener and their cooperation in the theatrical play "The water's edge".
- How is your cooperation with the Yigit Ozsener?
- Excellent, how else could it be? When you're dealing with so talented actors, that perfectly understand what we call 'stage presence' all go well. Yigit Ozsener knows where to stand, how to stand, how to regulate his breath, how to place his voice, how to save situations if necessary ... It's what we call a safety net for a show. You know the theater does not forgive and does not give a second chance. If you were good you are saved, if not you are swallowed. There you don't have the option of montage, or repetitive shooting. In one show infinite things can go wrong, it is one living body. And to avoid vagueness, I will tell you one personal experience from our show. At some point I have one short monologue in which Yigit is onstage but not speaking. So I'm starting to talk but somewhere towards the middle, I realize that I do not remember the words ... Panic, but we are professionals so something must be done to save the scene ... So I bend the head slightly ... He understands what happened. Another skill you must have in the theater: To understand the situations in the air ... Then Yigit starts talking to fill the gap ... Before you rush to say "not very difficult" I should remind you that you must find words that fit with the scene and in general with the plot of the play, as well as to help me "come back" . Only it took me a little longer so Yigit covered with improvisation 5 minutes. Do you know what it means to improvise for 5 minutes in the theater? 5 centuries and more!
- You have one scene together that Yigit is naked. The fact that you have been a couple in the past, has made things easier?
-No. Moreover this is ancient history. But, regardless of our personal memory, it does not change anything. A part must be interpreted independently of anything. If someone else played, wouldn't I have accepted the part or wouldn't he accept to get naked in front of me? Moreover, call us crazy or eccentric, or schizophrenic, but for us actors the body is just one tool of our work. Also honestly I do not know how you can get your mind on something erotic or sexual, when 300 people look at you.
- You remain friends!
- Of course, of course! We didn't seperate with a bad fight. It just wasn't possible for us to be together. Yigit is a special person, extremely charming, but also extremely difficult. In order to live with him, you must love him "too much". But in my case "too" was missing. But even if I had that , probably he would leave at some point because he is bored very easily, believe me.
