“ONE RECOGNİZES THE RİGHT PERSON AT ONCE”

We are going to watch actor Cansel Elcin in Kenan Yilmazer character of Kotu Yol series on KanalD channel.

*This time you appeared in a different image...

- As it is a period serial I decided to have such a moustache model.  There are very few people having this model nowadays. Of course you have to change your hair style as well.

*What were the reasons making you take part in Kotu Yol? The script or the character?

- First of all I paid attention if the script is convincing enough. Faruk Turgut has taken up this project seriously. And he gets engaged in every small detail. To tell the truth everything went on naturally. I never thought if I could perform this role. And my friends tell me this is the most appropriate character for me.  Of course I cannot see myself. That’s the biggest problem for the actors, we cannot see ourselves. When you watch yourself you feel strange.

*You are giving life to Kenan Yilmazer in the series. Have you ever identified your character with yourself?

- He is a daydreamer, too...  Kenan is a director who wants to shoot his own films. It is the only place where he can discharge himself. He has got a dramatic, trajic past.  On one hand there is his fiancee Leman Aksular, on the other hand the pressure made by his mother. That’s why he wants to shoot a film.  But his film doesn’t draw much attention, and doesn’t do well at the box office. He is together with the one of the biggest stars of the period, Leman Aksular. That makes him a mediatic one. Kenan and Leman have got some problems between themselves but they know each other very well. Ezgi Mola is giving life to Leman. Marilyn Monroe of Turkey. I feel so easy with her as if we have known each other for years.

* How do you get on with other actors?

- Very accurate staff: Ilker (Aksum), Shukran (Ovali), Brother Ali (Erkazan) – we all understand each other. We are only concerned in acting, nothing else. And we try our best for the best performance. I have worked with Ilker in Kucuk Kiyamet. He is an uncommon actor. “You are in this project, right?” I asked him,  and when he replied: “I am, my buddy”, I said “All right then “.

“IT MAKE YOU NOT LONG FOR YESHILCAM”

*How did you get prepared for Kenan character?

- First of all I read the book by Orhan Kemal. We investigated a lot about a film staff of the period. And we became like real Yeshilcam film staffs. I worked mostly on the psychology of the guy. He needs to express himself somehow. That’s why he becomes a film-maker, he wants to express himself. He wants to change his own world.

*The story takes place in 1960s. Do you enjoy playing in a period film?

- Period films are more naive.  There is no mobile phone for example. So you get rid of mobile phone (he laughs). It is hard to write a good script nowadays. Because in the normal life it is so simple to reach any information. So I consider more useful the films about the past or the future. And it is very hard to describe love. We exhaust everything.

 

*But you did find your love. You got married with Pinar Apaydin some time ago.   

- Yes. We had a wedding that we wanted to have. It was very nice. In your wedding you make your family happy and you bring together all your friends that you haven’t seen for a long time. Our families and the closest friends were participating in the wedding. And the best thing making me happy was being together with my friends from France.

*Did  you get a chance to have your honeymoon?

- Both Pinar and me love travelling anyway. We have travelled a lot. And we will go somewhere at the first opportunity.

*How did you decide that Pinar is the right person?

- One recognizes it at once, you see it. We have been living together for 1-1.5 year. And we decided to get married long ago. I fell in love deeply, and I love her very much.  And the more I got to know her the more I recognized I could go on a long journey together with her. Peace is very important. I feel peaceful with Pinar. Where the peace is there is love.

SHENER SHEN IS A VERY PRECIOUS ACTOR

*Kotu Yol is a Yeshilcam adaptation. Which are the Yeshilcam films that you watch time and again?

- My brother used to take me to open-air cinema in Tire when I was 5-6 years old.  “Cicek Abbas”, “Vurun Kahpeye”, “Hababam Sinifi”...  But “Selamsiz Bandosu” is one of my favourite films. To write such a script and to work on such a subject in that period... You can get an award in Cannes Film Festival with that film. One of the best films in which Shener Shen acted.

*Who are the Yeshilcam actors you like?

- I love Brother Shener very much. He is a very precious actor. Then there is Sadri Alishik. And I’m very lucky that I worked with Shemsi Inkaya in Kirik Kanatlar series.

*Is there any film projects for near future?

- I want to play in a project of my friend in France. It is an action-comedy film. And besides it there can be 1-2 projects for the next summer.

KOTU YOL STARTS SOON

Kotu Yol is a televizion adaptation for Orhan Kemal’s novel. And the events are taking place in the Istanbul of 1960s, in Yeshilcam. Ilker Aksum, Shukran Ovali and Cansel Elcin are sharing the leading roles. The first episode of the series was shot in Adana, and it is about the story of a girl who runs from Adana to Istanbul to become a movie star.
